Very friendly service! The head cheese and the mixed grill were delicious.

We love coming back to "Zur Schlossbastei" The food is fantastic and delicious. 😋 The staff is always friendly and efficient. 👍 Reservations are essential, as it's always very busy.

A very good restaurant with outstanding food quality, an extensive menu, a pleasant atmosphere, and, above all, friendly service. It's always a pleasure to stop there. As every year in Bad Schandau, it's an absolute must. Definitely recommend the "Schmuggler Beer"—a delight both light and dark! Keep it up!

Okay, the ambiance could be improved. But if delicious food and tasty draft drinks at a very good price are more important to you, then this is the place to be. There were five of us at 2 pm, and we still got all our food without any problems, which isn't the norm these days. I'd love to come back, but unfortunately, it's quite a long drive from Upper Bavaria. Oh, and the beer in the photo looks delicious, but they also have Staropramen on tap 🤤

It was perfectly fine, but I'd look for a different establishment for the next day. It felt like time had stood still there.

A small, charming restaurant tucked away off the main road in a short cul-de-sac, making it a very quiet spot. The restaurant, with its unique history, feels a bit like a place out of time, but that's precisely what makes it so cozy :-) We (two adults) arrived with two small dogs shortly after 5:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, and the friendly waitress didn't even flinch... All the tables were reserved from 7:00 p.m. onwards, but they still offered us a table. Now THAT's flexibility and hospitality! Before we even ordered our drinks, the server was already under the table with a water bowl for the two little rascals... We immediately liked the young lady :-) But: Time was ticking, so we ordered – two Alster (a shandy), turkey breast with Camembert, and pork medallions – perfectly balanced flavors, simply delicious, the Camembert adding an interesting twist to the turkey breast! The portions were just right – not too small, not too big. Our server was attentive and genuinely warm – when a smile isn't just a slight twitch of the lips, but a full-face smile, you know they enjoy their work and it's more than just a job... Thank you, L.T. :-) The prices were fair and reasonable, and we highly recommend this restaurant – we'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Overall, we felt very comfortable, had a wonderful meal, and therefore give it seven out of five stars *******

We traveled to Bad Schandau on vacation and were lucky enough to snag a table on the spur of the moment. The service staff was friendly, and the food was delicious and arrived quickly.

After the visit, we and all our clothes smelled of deep fryer oil.

A small but fine restaurant in the center of Bad Schandau. Delicious, authentic Saxon cuisine. The owner and staff put their heart and soul into the experience. We stopped by spontaneously and were lucky to get a seat, as the restaurant seems to be very popular, which it truly deserves. If we could, we would give it even more stars.

We had a delicious meal here. The staff was friendly, but the food took a very long time to arrive. The apple strudel was also delicious, but it was a shame it was served with chocolate sauce and not vanilla sauce.

They were not serving dinner/food at 7.30 pm. I asked them if they allow me to buy a meal from the other restaurant just next door, because their kitchen is closed and my 4 year old just told me she is hungry. They refused to let me buy, although they couldn’t serve me. The hospitality of the Germans baffles me every day, unfortunately in a negative way

Update 06.08.25 We had another wonderful vacation. As always, the key to this is good food in a great atmosphere. This year, we couldn't resist stopping at the Schloßbastei restaurant. And again, we left delighted after every meal. The brown trout, as well as the regional "Schmuggler Bier" and "Schmuggler Schnaps" beer, are highly recommended. Our thanks go to the entire team, as well as a big compliment to the kitchen for the delicious food. We'll be back. Until then, stay the way you are.💪 Update 23.07.24 We threatened to come back, and now we're back. And what can I say? This restaurant is still just as great in terms of staff, food, and ambiance as we experienced it in 2020. The price/performance ratio is simply top-notch. Important for those who stop by now: please bring cash, as debit card payments are not accepted, which isn't a problem, of course. We thank you again and look forward to the next time. The best view of the valley and a relaxing stay after a strenuous hike

Looking for "homely" home cooking, we ate here during our Bad Schandau vacation and had reserved a table. We were so impressed with the food and the hospitality that we immediately booked again for the next day. Whether it was Kirnitzschtal schnitzel, steak au four, the "Schlossbastei" grilled plate, or nuggets for our little one – everything was absolutely delicious. For starters, we always had the garlic soup, which truly lives up to its name. 😋 Even special requests are fulfilled without any problems. HUGE compliments to the boss and daughter, as well as all the staff. 3 days in Bad Schandau, 3 days at different restaurants. I completely found myself here. Food to my taste, not fussy, but simple, hearty, and super delicious. There are dishes on the menu for which I don't need a translator 😅 The service was also top-notch, just like the restaurant, not fake, but honest. Thank you for this evening with you!

What a delicious schnitzel with fries and a nice little salad.

We had a vegetable platter and tagliatelle with salmon. The vegetable platter was clearly from a packet and not fresh at all. The vegetables were more raw than al dente. The tagliatelle with salmon, on the other hand, were indefinably overcooked. The staff were disinterested. All in all: impossible! We definitely won't be coming here again.

Had a fantastic omelet. Generously filled with mushrooms and cheese. Very tasty and excellent value for money. Friendly service, so definitely recommended.

Hello, we were on vacation in Bad Schandau and had dinner at the restaurant "Zur Schlossbastei" three times during that time. We were absolutely thrilled every time. Super friendly, welcoming service and a manager who always radiates a smile and a good mood. Special requests are also fulfilled whenever possible. Excellent value for money. We tried going in just for a drink. Staff were rude and told us they’re fully booked despite the place being almost empty and the outside area being fully empty. We would have happily just sat outside. Definitely wouldn’t try coming back based on the unwelcoming attitude of the staff.

When we vacation in Bad Schandau, "Zur Schlossbastei" is our number one. It's always best to make a reservation for the evening. The service is always friendly and prompt. The menu is varied; if you can't find something to suit your taste, you don't belong here. The chef deserves a lot of praise. It tastes simply amazing. Keep it up.

A must-try: If you're looking for traditional, regional cuisine in the mid-price range, this is the place to be. Very well prepared: pork liver with onions and mashed potatoes; the goulash with Bohemian dumplings is also fantastic. Short wait times and super friendly, attentive service. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside in the small garden. The ambiance loses a very small star because the restaurant is a bit dark.

We arrived after a sightseeing tour without making an appointment. We were warmly greeted and given a table in the secluded, peaceful garden. The menu offers something for every taste. We opted for pork cheeks. They were served very quickly. Not only did they taste excellent, but the portions were also generous. A restaurant that we highly recommend and deserves a full 5 stars.

A very pleasant feeling after talking to the waitress and landlady. You immediately feel very comfortable. We've eaten there three days in a row now and we were very satisfied every day. On the second day we were served even though we were a few minutes late and the kitchen was already closed and without a reservation. You don't experience something like that every day. If we are in the area again we will definitely come back.

Wir waren auf einem Stop an einem Montag hier eingekehrt. Etwas versteckt in einer schmalen Gasse an der Hauptstraße gegenüber der Kirche. Die junge Dame des Service war überaus freundlich und schnell. Das Essen ist bodenständig … wir hatten eine Knoblauchsuppe danach einen Toast und ein Schnitzelbrot. Das war alles ok und sicher frisch gemacht. Gut gewürzt und abgeschmeckt. Preislich auch im Rahmen. Die Gaststube ist sehr gepflegt. Wirkt alles wie „geleckt“. Empfehlenswert!!!

Kleines Lokal, Reservierung zu Empfehlen, sehr netter Service und Portionen, bei denen auch ein Waldarbeiter satt wird. Alle bestellen Gerichte haben uns sehr gut geschmeckt und wir werden sicher hier wieder einkehren.

Everything was actually nice until we were simply "swept out" about 30 minutes before closing time. That's just not right.

We ate here 3 times in 6 evenings. Every time we ate the garlic soup and this and that as the main course. The nice two women are so hard-working, courteous, friendly and always have a quick saying on their lips. Oh, the Pina Colada is also very tasty. The dishes are freshly prepared. The garlic soup was great. We ate Schnitzel, and I'll be charitable here and assume the cook had a bad day. We liked the atmosphere and everything it was OK priced for the portions. Big drawback is the lack of credit card payments. If you're here on vacation, this is a place locals frequent, it's not "tuned" for tourists, especially non-local ones.
