Zur Schlossbastei in Bad Schandau

Once a month it is mandatory to dine in the *Schlossbastei*. Everything just fits: my salmon pasta, my Barcadi Cola and the ambience. Both ladies, who nimbly hop from table to table, always have the well-being of their guests in mind! In summer you are welcome to take a seat in the atrium and there is also seating in front of the main entrance. I highly recommend the Castle Bastion! But remember to reserve a table. Good home-style dishes at moderate prices.

A very good restaurant with outstanding food quality, extensive menu, nice atmosphere and, above all, warm service. It's always a pleasure to come there. Like every year in Bad Schandau, an absolute must. Definitely recommend the “Smuggler Beer”, a pleasure both light and dark!! Keep it up.

We wanted to eat there on Monday and unfortunately we couldn't get a seat. We made a reservation for Tuesday and it was soooo nice :-) Great ambience, service staff very friendly and refreshing, the food was very tasty and the children got something to paint with. We'd love to come back

Garlic soup is legendary, 7⭐ service super toppi, tavern clean and nice, Swedish cup👍

The spiced meat and especially the garlic cream soup were sensationally delicious. But the smugglers' beer was a thin drink. The very clean toilet invites you to linger. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to pay by card - thanks Merkel! No matter, we'll definitely come back again...

Cozy place to enjoy traditional German food. I was very positively surprised, everything was delicious. Also, dog friendly place ☺️

After the many positive reviews, we went into the restaurant with quite high expectations and left somewhat disappointed. Unfortunately, the schnitzel with fresh seasonal mushrooms was not what it was supposed to be. The mushrooms were mushy and the schnitzel was completely soggy because of the mushrooms. The service was good.

This place is big, filling, and authentic, making it a perfect dinner spot after a long day of hiking in the mountains. I really liked it! The schnitzel is enormous and very tasty, definitely a highlight of the meal. The salad was a bit of a letdown and felt uninspired, though. Next time, I think I’d just go for two schnitzels!

We ordered and were greeted “nicely” at the entrance. And yes, the kitchen is only open until 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, I had hoped for more, despite good reviews on TripAdvisor.

The visit to the restaurant was ok. The condition was nice but very stressed. You also have to make a reservation, otherwise you won't get a table. Preferably several days beforehand. However, the food was very, very tasty. One point deducted because the kitchen is open and after visiting the restaurant you smell completely of food, not a pleasant smell.

A good little card with no frills or extras. Four stars for service... The waitress was attentive but also quick to clear away. As soon as the cutlery was put down she stood next to us and cleared away. Personal feeling... Otherwise very satisfied

Very disappointing, the food was not good and of poor quality. Every snack bar can do it better.

Hunger “drove” us to this establishment. All tables were reserved, but we were lucky that the waitress allowed us to eat there. It's a cozy, no-frills restaurant. Even though it was busy, we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The portions were more than sufficient & very tasty. Since my friend is in rehab in the town for another two weeks, we will stop there again - if possible. But this time with reservation. We hope and keep our fingers crossed for all residents and shop owners that the floodwaters don't rise any further and that everyone gets through everything well.

We've been there twice now and both times it was absolutely delicious. The service is top despite the fact that you have to run a lot there, very friendly and happy to give advice and there is no shortage of fun. We felt very comfortable and would eat there again any time we were in this corner. We understand why you should reserve in advance, given the good food 😊

Highly recommended! The food is very tasty and inexpensive. A good selection of home-style cuisine and luckily also solyanka and potato soup. The preparation was quite quick. The staff is very attentive and friendly. So we'll be back!

The two of us spontaneously came by in the evening and got a place. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food is hearty and delicious. We can only warmly recommend Zur Schlossbastei.

Basically a recommended restaurant. It wasn't the first time there - and I'm sure we'll visit again when the opportunity arises. The food is very good and the portion size is sufficient. Prices are appropriate for today's conditions and are typical for the area. The ambience is fine. What always takes some getting used to is the somewhat "jagged" commanding tone of some employees. Okay, I can overlook that. But for me a no-go in 2024 is the “romantic” way of paying with cash. Something should be done here urgently! Hence the deduction of a star (in addition to the “command tone”).

We were your guests for the 3rd time and the food was so delicious again. The service employees were always very friendly and quick.....Thank you very much for allowing us to be with you!!..... .We would be happy to come back on another occasion. .

After a lovely day of hiking, we ate in Zur Schlossbastei in the evening. Reservations are recommended. Menu with a good selection of regional dishes. We chose goulash with napkin dumplings. A good choice! Very tasty and good portion. Price performance fits.

We have rarely eaten in such an authentic place as the Bastei Castle. We were guests 4 times.

Ordered a plate of different meats. In terms of meat, I call it a leftover plate. Not good meat. Turkey roasted to death etc. The instruction manual was very nice and the smuggler beer was great.

Food tasted good. It took over an hour for the food to arrive, but then everything was ok.

Food is good but nothing special. The table is already being cleared while people are still eating. Even though it is quite busy, it is not pleasant.

Restaurant on a small street with tasty and interesting dishes. Unfortunately, payment is only possible in cash and the atmosphere is rather mediocre. It is relatively loud in the restaurant and I found the chairs in the outdoor area to be quite low. But overall completely satisfactory.

Schloßbastei suggests fine dining, which is not the case here. But: Ossi dishes, nice Ossi service, all in all a well-rounded affair!! I enjoyed it!

Very nice staff - delicious food - gladly again

The waitress was very attentive, friendly and approachable. The food was very tasty, the trout was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Remedies against the annoying wasps and ashtrays were brought immediately. Immediately after finishing the drink, people asked if they could have another drink, even though it was full. Gladly again!

We were guests at the Schlossbastei today and we were very satisfied. We would particularly like to highlight the extremely courteous and friendly service from Kerstin. Especially in times when there is a shortage of staff everywhere, this is a very positive surprise! Just keep it up!!

Eating like in a canteen. Ambience could be better. Starter was forgotten and then, as is often the case in the area, only payment in cash.

Update 7/23/24 We threatened it and now we're back. And what can I say, this restaurant is still just as great with its staff, food and ambience as we were able to experience in 2020. Price performance is simply top. Important for those who stop by there now, please take cash with you, because EC card payments are not possible, which is of course not a bad thing. We say a thousand thanks again and look forward to the next time. Great food and great service. Here the guest is king. Wishes are read from lips. Keep it up, we will come back.

No card payment possible! Not an option for us. Addendum: As you can easily see, only the service was evaluated. It is incomprehensible to me how such a service is not offered in a heavily frequented region like yours. Therefore the one star, for lousy customer service

Thanks for the hospitality! We didn’t get in on the first day, since the kitchen is only until 19.30. On the second day we reserved a table in the courtyard. Everything would be fine if they didn't smoke nearby. The Wiener and Elb schnitzels were delicious, as was the coleslaw. We decided to return on the second day. Food and wine were great. p.s. Cash only.

We had dinner in the castle bastion this evening. The restaurant is located on a cozy little side street. The kitchen offers regional, sometimes simple dishes, but they are prepared first-class. My tip is the fried potatoes… super delicious! A visit is highly recommended! We would love to come back 🙂

Price performance was top. Very good food, large selection of drinks (especially beer) and very friendly staff. Dessert was also a very good one.

Located in a small side street, pedestrian zone. Super friendly service, there are also very good small dishes. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

We ate outside because we were there with our dog. The staff came without being asked with a bowl of water and were visibly happy about our dog. We found that very thoughtful and makes you very happy as a dog owner, as it's not always easy to find a restaurant where you can eat in peace with your dog. The service was friendly and in a good mood. The food (Wiener Schnitzel / Szegediner Gulssch) was delicious. The portion could have been a little larger, but it was okay. The beer (Staropramen Dark Lager) as well.

We were on holiday in the Czech Republic, went to eat in Bad Schandau, Germany and ended up at Restaurant “Zur Schlosbastei”, a beautiful restaurant, but also a quality restaurant, very friendly service and affordable. We three girls from the Erzgebirge go to Bad Schandau once every year. We discovered the restaurant two years ago and now we always eat here. It tastes good, the portions are huge and the best thing about it are the nice girls at the service 😊We'll be back 👍next year.

We were there on Saturday evening for a nightcap two three Cuba Libre, always fresh ingredients and there was enough alcohol. Very friendly staff too. I'd love to come back

Very lively and friendly team of ladies in service, food top, freshly prepared, you could taste it. Pretty beer garden to sit outside. In the evening you should definitely make a reservation, otherwise there will be no space left.

The Schlossbastei restaurant is located in a small, quiet side street. There were 3 of us here. 2 adults and a child. The service was super friendly to us and our dwarf. The food was excellent and price ./. Performance fits here too! Thank you for the very pleasant and delicious stay. PS: We were a little late with the photos.

A nice, simple and not overpriced restaurant in Bad Schandau. We just wanted to eat something small and found enough dishes on the menu to satisfy our small appetites. The food came quickly and tasted good. The service from CZ was very friendly. Good choice for us.

We arrived after a long day trip and were warmly welcomed. We were really pleased with the great food and friendly service and can only recommend a visit. Short tip: reserve in advance on the weekend 😀

It's a shame, it would actually be a great restaurant with nice service, but an already opened bottle of mineral water, i.e. "tap water" and a raw steak au four are not acceptable.

Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir kommen gern wieder! Da das Restaurant direkt im Zentrum liegt, parkt man am besten direkt an der Elbe auf einem großen Parkplatz , dieser ist jedoch gebührenpflichtig. Von da aus läuft man circa 10 Minuten entlang der Elbe.

Hearty food, unfortunately also hearty prices but since we live in Prague we are used to other prices. Meal for three, soup and main course for almost €100 and only with non-alcoholic drinks. Service was super friendly and food was prepared extremely quickly. Unfortunately, the soup was only warm, not really hot, but I didn't let it go back because I was too hungry. It tasted excellent! We'd love to come back.

Since hardly any restaurants nearby had room for two without a reservation, we ended up here by chance. Given the setup, we actually didn't have too many expectations. We were taught better. The food was tip-top. No ready-made paste was touched here, everything was made by ourselves. The service was even better than five stars. I have rarely experienced so much friendliness and attention without annoying the guests. As inconspicuous as the restaurant appears from the outside, it is worth a visit.
