Zur Post in Ilmenau

I was passing through Ilmenau and stopped at the post office for dinner. The service was very friendly, the food was good, and reasonably priced [fried trout for €19]... I would go there again.

A truly lovely little restaurant with excellent, home-style cooking. I had a very pleasant stay here in a cozy atmosphere with delicious food and friendly service. The overnight stay in the very clean, lovingly furnished guesthouse room, including breakfast, left nothing to be desired. I'd be happy to come back.

Unfortunately, after what felt like 10 minutes of waiting in the dining room, the waitress came out of the kitchen at 1:00 PM and informed us in a rather unfriendly tone that there was no more food. He offered neither an apology nor an explanation. I remember the wet post better.

If you want to stay overnight in the heart of Ilmenau and don't need a luxury hotel with a spa, this is the place for you. Quaint, with local food and an excellent, lovingly prepared breakfast that rivals some 4*-plus hotels. I'll definitely be back.

We ate there twice as a family while on vacation. The food was simply delicious. No matter which dish, it was all very good, even the vegetable curry for vegetarians was simply fantastic. We're very spoiled with the food, as we cook fresh food at home every day. When we say it tastes good, you can believe us. The staff was very friendly. I'd especially like to highlight the waitress, Sarah. She was the friendliest and most patient waitress we've ever experienced, and we eat out a lot, as we travel often. All I can say is, go eat at this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Although opening hours are posted everywhere, the restaurant remains closed without any notice or any recognizable indication.

The food... good, home-style cooking, the ambiance is modern and well-executed. The beer garden is a drawback... the tables for four people are too small, completely unacceptable. The tabletop has ledges, so the beer 🍻🍺 falls through them, or rather, a better solution should be found. I had to hold onto my beer 🍺 and still ended up with a beer load on my pants.

I thought it was great last night. You ordered in advance and were shown your seat straight away and it was so lovely. Then the waitress was also very funny and took the orders and we had a good time in such a lovely restaurant. The food was a dream, it was very tasty, beautifully freshly cooked and just great, I had the liver from the young bull, which I would happily recommend, it was really good and the mashed potatoes were also good. The Gasthaus zur Post also shows its lively side this Tuesday evening. The guest room, lovingly designed in wooden tones, offers space for groups of different sizes, and the pleasant acoustics contribute to the relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers regional classics at moderate prices (main courses €12-22), complemented by an inexpensive daily special. The service impresses with its friendliness and attentiveness. I choose the “Thüringer Rostbrätel (pork neck marinated with mustard with braised onions and fried potatoes)”. The side dishes are perfect, I would have liked the roast to be a little more tender. A local Jäcklein Pilsner tastes great with this. Conclusion: A nice place for traditional cuisine in the middle of the city. I had the pleasure of dining at Nassen Post in Ilmenau last Sunday and it was an absolute delight! As soon as I entered, I felt the warm and inviting atmosphere that makes this restaurant special to me. A special highlight was the black beer roast - a real feast for the senses (although the sauce was a bit too light for me - it could be done differently or it was simply "just" the roast pork sauce). Perfectly cooked, with a wonderful spicy note and my side dish of red cabbage and dumplings, which complemented the dish masterfully. You can tell that the cooking here is done with attention to detail and passion. But the food was only half the enjoyment – ​​the service was simply magical. From the start I felt well cared for. The lady present was not only extremely attentive, but also warm and charming. It is rare to experience such courteous and professional care. The Nasse Post in Ilmenau far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who values ​​first class food and outstanding service. However, when it comes to a steak or four, the kitchen refuses to replace the steak with a turkey schnitzel, even though the turkey schnitzel is on the menu!!! Then you order the spiced cleaning meat gratinated with cheese as a starter and what comes next?? A white bread with ham (pork) on which the seasoned meat lies. What is that?? We haven't been this dissatisfied in a long time...

On December 7th, 2024 I visited the Gasthaus zur Post in Ilmenau with a small tour group for dinner. Since our first visit, exactly 7 years later, I have to say “respect”. Nice, bright guest room and very friendly staff. Food and drinks were served very quickly and it tasted great. We would love to come back.

We were at Elgersburg Castle for a few days and went on Saturday June 8th. a detour to this restaurant. We've been there several times before and we once again enjoyed it very much. The new operators have given the restaurant a new shine. The service was very friendly. Tip: Roulade with Klos and red cabbage is a hit...It's nice that this restaurant has been preserved...Highly recommended!!

Super easy to reach by car, on foot and by bus (located opposite a bus stop). Very tasty food, they are clearly making an effort. Salad beautifully marinated with a delicious vinaigrette. Unfortunately, there is no sauce such as ketchup or mayo for the children's meal of fries with schnitzel, which was supplied upon request. Otherwise everything is tip top!

One of the only restaurants in Ilmenau with German cuisine. It tastes very good. The prices are reasonable. The ambience is very nice. Modern and old-fashioned were mixed and give the guest room a cozy ambience. The service staff was very attentive, quick and very friendly. You feel very welcome.
