An institution among Frankfurt's apple wine taverns. They still make their own apple wine here. Great, down-to-earth food, great drinks, and everything is regional. Add to that good service and a pleasant atmosphere both inside and out. They offer classic German dishes and daily specials. Highly recommended!

We held a class reunion here and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Friendly service, delicious hand cheese salad, and a cozy ambiance.

Food was expensive and plentiful. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm, and the sauerkraut felt like a child's portion.

Delicious food and drinks, great service, Hessian atmosphere. We've been there several times and have never been disappointed. But the best service came last week, after we unfortunately forgot our son's jacket. A friendly phone call and an email later, the jacket was mailed back to us. And in the box was a bag of wine gums. It's the little yesterdays that make so many things so worthwhile these days. Thank you again!!

A truly classic Äpplerwirtschaft (Almost always full)

It is a nice restaurant, very local. Even though I couldn't speak German, the waiters made their best to help us. Very friendly staff, highly recommended ☺️

One of our favorite destinations on our bike tour. Good food and super friendly service. The Ebbelweck dessert is incredibly delicious. Anyone who goes there absolutely has to try this dessert. It's only available there.

After 6 p.m. it gets crowded and, unfortunately, very loud. The food is excellent, the service is super friendly, and we love coming back. We'll be back again and again.

We hiked from the Goetheturm to the Buchscheer apple wine tavern and felt truly at home there. Several Bembel (a traditional German beer) filled with home-made Äppler (a kind of apple), accompanied by Handkäs mit Musik (music-style cheese), and Grüne Soße (green sauce) with fried potatoes—everything was delicious and typically Hessian. One small downside: Although it wasn't particularly busy, we had to wait a relatively long time for our food, and the bill only arrived after asking several times. The service staff seemed a bit disorganized that day. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was cozy, quaint, and authentic—a true original. Highly recommended for anyone who loves apple wine and Frankfurt specialties.

Great! We got stranded here on a bike tour because of a broken bike. We spontaneously got room for three people on Saturday evening. Service is excellent. Friendly, funny, and attentive. The food is really good, the Äppler (apple wine) is especially good, and our son also really enjoyed the Holli (a kind of wine). We'll be back here soon! 👍

They serve home-pressed apple wine (sustainability and sourcing from local orchards are paramount...) - Traditional Hessian cuisine... down-to-earth and simply delicious - a seasonal daily special is available - prompt service, popular hosts are happy to look after their guests - many regulars - you feel welcome - individual requests are no problem here - reservations are recommended - easily accessible - plenty of parking, bus stop right outside, tram and S-Bahn nearby, easily accessible by bike anyway - We always feel very comfortable here :) Great outdoor area, partly under trees, partly covered - smoking and non-smoking areas, dogs also welcome - a well-known local pretzel boy also drops by with his baked goods - Also popular are booked apple wine tastings... where the chef shares all his apple-related experience in an entertaining and relaxed manner Pass it on... In our opinion, it's too expensive, the portions are small, and unfortunately, we didn't get full. The ambiance, however, is very original.

We were able to find a table outside. The friendly and efficient waiter served us quickly and courteously. The Äppler (apple wine) tastes good and is a must with Hankäs (cheese with music). The quality of the food was good. There was Frankfurt schnitzel and stuffed peppers with mashed potatoes.

I went there with a friend. We had made a reservation several days in advance. Unfortunately, instead of a small table with chairs, we were seated at a beer bench that was also reserved for other guests, and right in the middle of the main aisle. That wasn't exactly great. We both ordered schnitzels: my companion the schnitzel with apple cider sauce, and I the Frankfurter schnitzel. To our surprise, it arrived after just 2-3 minutes. The waiter told us he'd found a "cheat code." The cheat code was apparently that the dishes were kept warm. That might have been bearable, but unfortunately, in my opinion, it was a convenience item. Neither the schnitzel, the fried potatoes, nor the green sauce were convincing; only my companion's homemade apple cider sauce was a highlight. Additionally, the portion size wasn't exactly generous, and neither of us felt completely full. They skimped on the fried potatoes in particular, which isn't entirely understandable for a cheap, filling side dish. For €19.50, I would have expected more. The house-made Ebbelwoi, however, was very good. There's nothing bad to say about the service; it was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is cozy and comfortable, though, as mentioned, our table wasn't the best.

Apple wine tasting is highly recommended!

For years and years, ever since my childhood in Sachsenhausen, it's been my favorite hometown! The Theobald family is authentic, friendly, and accommodating—just as restaurateurs should be. Consistently excellent Frankfurt cuisine, the world's best Äppelwoi (apple wine), a well-kept and shady garden,... there's simply nothing to complain about! Young and old... it's a must!

We came with 2 persons: we ordered and got REAL Pork knuckles, black and liver sausages, very very traditional German food and the food is very very good. EXACTLY what we expected! Very Good beer too! And service is very good!

Visiting Buchscheer again after quite a while. On a blue sky summer day you need to be lucky or have a reservation to ensure your spot. I simply love their Applewine. For dinner I had „Rindsleber Berliner Art“ (Cow Liver with roasted potatoes, topped with sliced apples.

We visited this restaurant for dinner in the winter of 2024. A friend in our group made a reservation about a week out prior to our visit, which on hindsight is a great idea. The restaurant is a short five-minute walk from the train station. As tourists wandering out in the cold, we did wonder for a moment if we had gotten the address wrong, but that was soon resolved as we heard chatter and hearty laughter just around the corner, and were greeted by the sight of Apfelwein jugs along the perimeter of the restaurant. The dining hall was packed, and the restaurant gave off a vibe that it’s visited more by locals than tourists. That said, any concerns were allayed. We were very quickly greeted with warm service and offered an English menu. Everything else that evening went by in a flash, but we left feeling stuffed and content. The food was excellent, and I really, really liked the “Holly” beverage—even more, actually, than the original Apfelwein.

Thirty-five years ago, it was packed every day. Now the building is mostly empty. I worked there for five years under the tenant Bunne, from 1988 to 1992, so I can judge it well.

The food is delicious and the service is great. You should make a reservation, as it's busy, even on Thursdays.

A super classic “Äbbelwoi Wertschaft” (apple wine restaurant). The homemade Äppler (cider) deserves special recognition. The food is fresh and delicious. And there were no problems with reordering. That's why I'm sure that any intolerances will be taken into account. In the traditional setting you can also find something vegetarian. The price/performance ratio is contemporary. You have to be one or two euros more expensive if you value materials and employees. If you consider the appreciation and performance of the catering industry with the added value of the craftsmen and the inspection of the car, you should be grateful that there are still innkeepers and of course innkeepers. Homemade food, great service, just as it should be. Not a large, quiet, elegant restaurant, but a top hedge restaurant with continuous operation and a small menu, supplemented by a daily menu. Since 1876!!! That says a lot.

Worst hand cheese, ice cold, weak vinegar dressing (I was given vinegar and oil upon request), and apart from a lot of onions, nothing, neither pepper nor caraway. The very firm bread ice cold from the refrigerator, as well as ice cold, hard butter. It couldn't be more loving! The Buchscheer is done for me.

I went alone without a reservation, but I was kindly guided to my seat and given a menu in English. We ate homemade apple wine, schnitzel, and wurst. All of them were very delicious, but the portions were so large that each person only had to have one main dish!

A restaurant that every time we go there we say we should go there more often. They still exist: the traditional, family-run cider taverns where the love for what the innkeepers do is palpable!

Top shop with fantastic home-made apple wine. Great hand cheese and great facade design. I'm looking forward to next time. In 2016, for the anniversary, the facade was sprayed with Bembel and Äppelwoi motifs in graffiti style.

Were there on a Friday evening with a reservation. Without it is possible but not secured and probably not alone at the large tables. The food was good for everyone, only the hand cheese with music would have had time in my opinion - but that's a matter of individual taste. The service is pleasantly informed about the menu, attentive and super relaxed and accommodating, even when it comes to special children's requests. The home-pressed Äppler is very apple aromatic with a pleasant acidity. The kids had fresh sweets - which was still apple in the morning. Super delicious. If it wasn't on the other side of town, I would be there more often.

I spent a wonderful afternoon here today. As a tourist, I like to spend my money at a family business. Buchscheer has the best Apfelwein in Frankfurt. It is a nice variety, and is made in house. The range of non-alcoholic drinks was very limited. There was no non-alcoholic beer or non-alcoholic cider. Unfortunately there were no ice cubes either. My scoop was okay, I wouldn't order the salad with beef here again. Otherwise, the Buchscheer is a rustic cider bar with a typical flair.

Very iconic Äppelwoi restaurant, with delicious, home-made Äppelwoi and very, very tasty food. Typically Frankfurt, typically Hessian! Four of us were here to eat and enjoy a glass of beer. We were welcomed by very nice staff and taken to our previously reserved table in the outdoor area. Shortly thereafter, our waitress arrived for the evening. Cheeky sayings, but she was definitely pleasant, funny and nice. The order was taken promptly and the drinks came quickly. The food didn't take long to arrive and looked very, very good. We had 2 x the Frankfurter schnitzel with fried potatoes and green sauce, 1 x the scalloped rib with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and once the schnitzel "Buchscheer" with fried potatoes, a side salad and a sauce with apple pieces, but not sweet, rather savory, but also excellent in taste. Everyone else also praised the look and taste of their food. For dessert there was once again the homemade chocolate cream with vanilla sauce and twice the warm Ebbelweck cake with vanilla sauce. I tried the chocolate cream and it was good, but the warm cake with vanilla sauce was amazing... highly recommended, quite a large portion for a dessert, so it's good for sharing and that's where our great service comes into play again , she is so attentive and asks if she should add a robber's spoon. She knows her craft and knows that you can earn good tips. And she deserves it. We definitely want to go here again and try other regional Frankfurt or Hessian specialties. Lots of thumbs up for me 👍👍👍👍👍

I was there to eat on a busy day, so the group of us had to wait a bit until we could order and get our food and drinks. Nevertheless, everything was great. The food was delicious, everything from the starter to the dessert was delicious. And the employees were very friendly and accommodating. I can warmly recommend it. :)

Were invited there yesterday. It had been reserved for weeks. There was a beer garden set right next to the passage. Offering something like that for a reservation is not courteous and is only acceptable for walk-in customers. Luckily we were later offered another table, which we gratefully accepted, but first impressions count. I had a salad with sheep's cheese that probably took quite a long time to prepare, the other salads also looked like that. 16 € this price is totally excessive!!! Muddy and very carelessly prepared. The bread, a piece of baguette, was not served in a basket but simply placed on top of the SALAD. Cut the two schnitzels very thinly, as if you were eating cardboard. We had hoped for better quality. Sorry but I won't recommend this place. Only, the Äppler was great. To the answer from the owner: "Thank you very much for so much constructive criticism. It's interesting how reviews on the same day vary so much. Some people are simply too shy to make a complaint on site." 1. I can't find reviews from the same day, but I can find older ones with similar complaints. 2. We were thankfully able to solve the placement problem with the service staff. 3. The salad only showed its true quality during the meal, when the top layer had already been eaten and the green, mushy salad appeared. 4. The side salads were of the same quality and it would have made no sense to order them again and get them after eating the main course. 5. The thickness of the schnitzel is apparently so common here that a complaint would probably have made no sense. I would be happy to give these suggestions for possible improvements.

The service is fine, the food is not. The schnitzel was completely soggy, nothing with any crispy breading or anything like that. The lettuce sat so long that it was completely soaked; was more like a soup than a salad. Some people also received their food very late; in the meantime, half the table was already ready. EDIT: I was there today (Wednesday, August 14th) from around 6-10 p.m. in a group of 11 people.
