Super freundliches Personal, sehr leckeres Essen. Sehr zu empfehlen. Die Lage des Restaurants, das Essen und das gesamte Ambiente haben uns sehr gut gefallen.

**Enttäuschend und wiederholend schlecht – Nie wieder!** Unser Besuch im Restaurant "Zur Alten Abtei" in Prüm war erneut enttäuschend. Bereits zum fünften Mal wurden wir von der gleichen Bedienung – einer älteren Dame mit kurzem grauem Haar – bedient, die unsere Erwartungen wiederholt nicht erfüllen konnte. Beim ersten Besuch war das Essen ausgezeichnet und genau wie bestellt zubereitet. Ich hatte ein Steak, das perfekt "bleu" zubereitet war. Doch in den folgenden Besuchen ließ die Qualität stark nach. Bei unserem letzten Besuch haben wir erneut ein Steak "bleu" bestellt. Die Bedienung kam nach einer Weile zurück und teilte uns mit, dass sie vergessen hatte, den gewünschten Gargrad in der Küche anzugeben, und das Steak nun "medium" sei. Darum ging es nicht, es ging darum das es eine ganz eibfache bitte war wie ich es gerne zubereitet haben wollte. Der Chef hätte auch fragen müssen wie der Kunde das Fleisch sich wünscht. Obwohl wir von Anfang an klar gemacht hatten, dass wir unser Steak "bleu" möchten, mussten wir letztendlich das falsche Gericht akzeptieren, weil die Situation zunehmend unangenehm wurde. Darauf hin passierte fast das gleiche. Die Bedienung nahm den Teller mit dem durchgebratenen Steak zurück in die Küche und brachte ihn uns erneut mit der Bemerkung, dass es doch wirklich "medium" sei. Widerwillig nahmen wir das Steak schließlich an, aber der Mittag war bereits ruiniert. Trotz der Unannehmlichkeiten wurde das Steak von der Rechnung genommen, haben wir trozdem Trinkgeld gegeben, aber ein einfaches "Auf Wiedersehen" oder eine Entschuldigung blieben aus. Wir hatten dem Restaurant viele Chancen gegeben, doch leider wurde unser Vertrauen jedes Mal enttäuscht. Dies war definitiv unser letzter Besuch. NIE WIEDER!

To briefly describe the restaurant "Zur alten Abtei"... Great! The food is simply great and the service was super nice, friendly and helpful. There was and is nothing to complain about, starting with the starter, a vegetable cream soup, the side salad and of course the main course. The food is super seasoned and tasty. The interior design of the restaurant is well described as rustic. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by again. Many thanks to the whole team for a lovely evening!!!

Quaint, beautiful restaurant with seating inside and outside. The personnel is very friendly and courteous. Rarely have I eaten such well-seasoned food. There were 2 schnitzels on the plate. So not a small portion. I was very satisfied all around and can only recommend the restaurant.

The waitress gives my food to another person and asks me if I would like the other person's food, but doesn't inform me that it costs twice as much as the food I ordered and then when spoken to she brazenly claims that I should know that and it's my fault.. ..the food itself is good.

Die alte Abtei wurde uns von Tripadvisor empfohlen und wir sind froh darauf gehört zu haben. Spontan, ohne Reservierung haben wir einen gemütlichen Tisch in einem Fass mit Messingdach bekommen. Urig! Die Bedienung war sympathisch und zuvorkommend und als ich dann die das Schnitzelklopfen aus der Küche hörte, freute ich mich; frisch und selbst gemacht schmeckt es doch am Besten. Eine weitere Besonderheit: Alkoholfries Bier vom Fass. Jetzt darf ich nicht weniger als 5 Sterne geben. Lecker, gutes Preisleistungsverhältnis, Service und Ambiente: Alles stimmig! Wir kommen gern wieder! :)

The food was freshly prepared and was of very good quality! The service was authentic and courteous and our seating for six was a large barrel whose sky was made from a brass brewery kettle. Quaint! Will be recommended immediately and we will come back! P.S.: My first non-alcoholic Pilsner on tap! Rare luck! :)

Rustic presentation and very good food. There were three of us and everyone was very happy with the dishes we ordered. In fact, the Wiener Schnitzel was the best. Valuable old ambience preserved and fantastically beautiful with a style of wooden beams. The service, the hygiene are simply great! The prices are super fair. Unfortunately there are only 5 stars! Just recommend it.

A side salad is charged separately and mayo/ketchup is also charged separately. I wouldn't have expected that.

The new waitress still has a lot to learn, but this is only a small point and everyone knows that good staff is hard to find. We were very pleased that dogs are less welcome here!! Update as of 03/30/24 We have been here several times and are now actually regular customers. We like the uncomplicated, cozy, rustic atmosphere here! The service staff is very nice and on the ball and the owner is always warm and attentive! Very clean place and the best salad ever!

DOGS NOT ALLOWED We weren't even allowed into the restaurant because we had a dog with us. Now the restaurant operator has requested that the review be deleted because he feels his personal rights have been violated. The fact is that dogs are not allowed in the area. But how are we supposed to prove that we were there if we don't have an invoice or something like that... This is a great way to make your reviews look good...

The old abbey in Prüm is a very cozy restaurant. The food was very good and the portions were sufficient. The service is very friendly and accommodating. The toilets are very clean. We really liked it and we will definitely go there again.

Unfortunately very disappointing. Yesterday the four of us visited the restaurant at the old abbey. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. We ordered a before/main and dessert. The food came every 5 minutes like it was on a conveyor belt, so you just couldn't enjoy the food. It gave the impression that they wanted to clear the table quickly. The food is nothing special that you would have to visit the restaurant for. The absolute disappointment was then discovered on the bill. A flat rate of 50 cents was charged because the fries were replaced by Röstis (frozen Röstis). This was called “compensation for expenses” on the invoice😂 Little things like that can definitely make you unpopular. Unfortunately there will be no further visit.

It's been a long time since I last had such a good meal! Simply delicious! The potato soup was perfectly seasoned. For the main course I had the salmon - simply amazing! I could even have licked the sauce from the side salad off the plate. The portions were plentiful, the service was great, and the price was totally okay too! We'll definitely be back - I have to try my hand at the menu now! Oh yes: there is a very cozy atmosphere and the restaurant is furnished with great attention to detail🤗

Very tasty food, good prices and very accommodating! We were greeted by name on the second visit (in quick succession)! So we were immediately recognized, even though no one had yet looked at the reservations. That's what I call customer-oriented service!

We were able to get a table at the last minute on a Friday of holiday season. And we were very glad! My spouse ate here when they were in the area previously and had talked about how delicious it was. We were not disappointed this time either! Food was delicious, service was very pleasant, and the atmosphere fits. Highly recommend!

Wir waren spontan im Gasthaus zur alten Abtei, nachdem wir bei eifler Oktoberwetter Wandern gewesen sind. Unsere 4 Kinder waren willkommen und gerne gesehen, es gab eine nette Kinderkarte zu sehr fairen Preisen. Die übrigen Gerichte waren auch sehr lecker- besonders der Gulasch war wirklich sehr gut. Am Ende haben unsere Kinder sogar noch Gummibärchen bekommen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Die alte Abtei ist ein gemütliches Lokal im Zentrum von Prüm. Bedienung immer nett und stets ein Lächeln auf den Lippen. Das Essen sehr lecker und die Wartezeiten kurz. Preise angemessen, nicht überteuert. Meinerseits sehr zu empfehlen!

Schade, aber wir kommen nicht mehr wieder. *************************** Als zugezogene Rheinländer haben wir hier ein uriges Restaurant für uns gefunden. Gut bürgerliche Küche mit wechselnder Tages Karte zum sehr guten Preis - Leistungsverhältnis. Es wird eine ehrliche Küche geboten ohne Schnickschnack. Die Einrichtung ist individuell und originell im Stil eines Braugasthofes eingerichtet. Das Personal und die Inhaber sind sehr freundlich und haben für Sonderwünsche (halbe Portion) ein offenes Ohr. Gastwirte wie man sie heute leider nur noch selten findet.

Op de terugreis uit Frankrijk hadden we zin in een lekker Duits biertje en (ik weet het, saai) een mooie schnitzel. Aangezien er in Prüm niet zo heel veel keuze was, kwamen we hier uit. Een prima en zeer verzorgd restaurant met eigen parkeerplaatsen vlak naast het plein. Alhoewel we uiterst vriendelijk werden geholpen en het bier bijzonder goed smaakte, was de schnitzel een deceptie. Dik, vet en smakend naar oud frituurvet. Jammer maar kennelijk was dit niet het restaurant wat we hadden moeten kiezen.

Gemütliches Ambiente, mit sure Service und sehr aufmerksam Bedienung un auch vom Chef. Man fühlt sich hier sofort wohl. ACHTUNG! Die Portionen sind Groß - also gute Eifler Küche. Also gerne auf Vorspeise verzichten. Wir können es nur weiter empfehlen. Salat Teller mit gebratenen putenstreifen hervorragend ebenso Schweine Schnitzel ,it Rahmsoße, Pommes und Beilagen Salat. Dazu ein roter Burgunder — trocken. Ein rund herum gelungener Abend,👍🏻

Die Begründung war herzlich, der Gastraum gemütlich. Die Bedienung war freundliche, das Essen war von der Vorspeise bis zum Nachtisch sehr gut. Die Preise sind in Ordnung. Wenn wir das nächste mal wieder in der Nähe sind gehen wir gerne wieder hier essen.

We hadden niet gereserveerd en konden met ons 5 toch een leuke tafel bemachtigen. Zeer typisch oud-Duits interieur met veel hout. Lekkere keuken met veel keuze aan diverse schnitsels en andere schotels. Grote porties wat we al ondervonden bij andere restaurants in Duitsland. We werden zeer vriendelijk bediend en hadden een leuke avond. Het restaurant zat vol op een maandag avond, dus eigenlijk hebben we geluk gehad. Beter reserveren als je van plan bent hier te eten; zelfs op een avond in de week.

Gezellig restaurant met vriendelijke bediening en lekker eten voor een redelijke prijs. Niet een groot restaurant maar wel gezellig ingericht met veel hout. Een absolute anrader!

Prima hapje gegeten. De klassieke Duitse keuken met vele soorten schnitzels. Was smakelijk en ruime porties. bediening was vlot en vriendelijk. Prijzen zijn conform andere gelijksoortige restaurants. Buiten zit je aan het plein en deels aan de weg maar dit stoort niet.

Dit restaurant in prachtige Duitse stijl is zeker een aanrader. De gerechten zijn zeer verzorgd, de porties meer dan voldoende en zeer democratisch van prijs. De bediening is er zeer vriendelijk. Voor ons, die van de Belgische kust komen, zijn dergelijke eerlijke prijzen ongezien. We gaan zeker nog terugkomen!!

Noch nie so eine Pute gegessen. Wie ein fettiger Schwamm. Ansonsten ok. Wir waren in Februar 22 als Paar hier essen. Lage gut, Atmosphäre und Personal freundlich. Allerdings habe ich Salat mit Pute bestellt und war nicht so glücklich … wenn man Pute bestellt erwartet man ein mageres Gericht. Es kam ein gemischter Salat mit einem öligem etwas darüber was ich nie als Pute identifiziert hätte. Wie ein frittierter öliger Schwamm. Schade denn der Rest war ok

Das Lokal besticht durch die Lage, im Sommer sicherlich schön zum Draußen sitzen, drinnen sieht es sehr urig aus. Der Empfang der Bedienung war sehr freundlich und trotz fehlender Reservierung konnte schnell ein Platz für uns gefunden werden. Die Auswahl auf der Karte war neben vielen Schnitzeln, Steaks und Fisch auch für Veggies geeignet. Am Tisch wechselte dann die Bedienung, die zweite war weniger freundlich, nahm die Bestellungen aber dennoch schnell und richtig auf. Nach kurzer Wartezeit kam unser Essen, die Portionen waren ziemlich üppig. Wir hatten das Abteitoast für knapp 14€, dies war in Fett ertränkt, und dementsprechend konnten andere Geschmackskomponenten gar nicht vortreten. Die Pilze auf dem Toast schienen außerdem aus der Dose zu sein. Zusätzlich war das Toast mit einem Haar garniert. Das andere Gericht waren die hausgemachten Spätzle mit Champignonrahmsauce, die Pilze auch hier wieder aus der Dose. Die Spätzle waren zwar mit Sicherheit selber gemacht, dennoch geschmacklos und überkocht. Die große Portion konnte ich auch nicht aufessen, da ich auch recht schnell schon Magenschmerzen bekommen habe. Zu allem Überfluss musste ich dann noch auf die Toilette, auf dem Weg nach unten zu den Waschräumen schlug mir schon auf der Treppe ein unangenehmer Uringeruch entgegen, da wundert einen das Haar auf dem Toast dann auch nicht mehr. Insgesamt ein ziemlich enttäuschender Aufenthalt, die guten Bewertungen erscheinen absolut unglaubwürdig.

Direkt nehmen der Basilika liegt das traditionelle Restaurant. Gute Karte mit genuegend Auswahl. Fantastische hausgemachte Spaetzle und guter Hirsch. Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhaeltnis. Empfehlenswert.

Tijdens ons bezoek aan Prüm 's middags gaan eten in Zur Alten Abtei. We kozen voor kippenschnitzel en broccoli-bloemkoolschotel. Lekker en vriendelijke bediening. We hebben ook niet lang moeten wachten op ons eten.

Zur Alten Abtei is a small retaurant next to the Monastery right in the centre of Prüm. As we walked in, we were greeted by the owner, who shook our hands and welcomed us. A very nice gesture which immediately makes you feel at home. The interior is a typical German "Stube" with all kinds of nooks and crannies. We were offered a choice of tables, then settled near the entrance. Menu is extensive, both food and drinks. Many traditional German dishes, both hot and cold plates. Service is very friendly and prompt. Our food was wholesome, but too much dressing/gravy for our liking. If you prefer to go 'light', make sure you ask for these on the side. Overall, a safe & traditional choice, excellent value for money

Had a meal here with friends on a Sunday night. Restaurant is traditional German for the area and was very nicely decorated and maintained. Menu has lots of choice and the food was great quality and very well presented. Wine was very nice and was very affordable. Service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend and I hope to return next time in Prum.

The food and the service are excellent. It is standard high quality German cuisine but a cordon blue is EUR 20,- so it is not that cheap.

This is a lovely typically German style decorated restaurant. It had heavy wood paneling and lots of ceramic vases sat on shelves high on the wall. The friendly servers were all female and wore traditional dirndls. The food was a little pricy (but not by too much) and they had several daily specials that included a broth cup of soup. There were four of us and we all enjoyed our meals. The schnitzel “uberbäken” with cheese was particularly tasty. This is a great restaurant to bring friends to who are visiting Germany, particularly for the first time, as the atmosphere is so traditional.

Announced with 14 persons , we were happy to have a good meal. The dish of the day was cheap, and the rumstaek i took , was nice. But i doubt , that it was the best piece of meat of the beast for 23 euros.

Warning: sometimes you will border on feeling guilty (Good guilty that is) you haven't been in before-Or that it's been all to lang since last time! -can be crowded at times,but what the hey!-Large generous portions, mostly solid German food which shouldn't come as a Total surprise as this is Germany country-side! -If you fancy other Continental grub,you wouldn't leave Zur Alten Abtei hungry either. If you've worked up a good appetite climbing those steep foresty mountains around town,try the Jaeger-schnitzel or Zigeuner-schnitzel usually served with a fresh coleslaw as starter Remember:ask for brat-kartofflen (not chips or french-fries) and you won't go much wrong..... Cozy place with nice people serving. Unsophisticated food. But prepared fine. Had potato soup which was fine and a well cooked filet steak. Sides where a bit boring though, but tested ok anyway. Fairly cheap.

A bit surprised reviews are so high for this place. True that people are exceptionally nice. However the food is just regular pub food. Honest and OK for the price, but really nothing to call hiome about.
