Zur alten Abtei in Prüm

We are currently on holiday in Prüm and had dinner in the restaurant “zur alten Abtei” for the second time today. It certainly won't be the last time either. So far we have had the salad with turkey breast strips, the cordon bleu (daily menu) and the beef ragout with pasta (daily menu) and all of the dishes were absolutely fantastic. The prices are more than fair, especially for the changing dishes from the daily menu. But there are two things that need to be highlighted here: - The ambience is simply great and you can tell how much attention is paid to details. Based on an old brewery, the concept is carried out consistently, including: There is a seating area inside a large beer barrel. - The service is really very friendly and attentive. What was particularly noticeable here was the child and family friendliness. There is a separate menu for children, but any other dish on the menu can also be ordered as a children's portion. As a farewell there is a pack of gummy bears. Here you feel comfortable as a family, but unfortunately that is not something that can be taken for granted these days. Without any ifs and buts, 5 stars and definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for a restaurant with good home-style cuisine!

Nice ambience, very tasty food and super nice service. Any time.

The service was very friendly and quick. So I'm a little sorry to say that the rest wasn't that great. The ambience was mixed. Unfortunately you can hear every word from the table next to you and there is no music or anything like that. Unfortunately, the food was also rather disappointing. The turkey schnitzel didn't seem to be completely cooked through, even though the chef had apparently cut it as a test. Unfortunately, the breading wasn't really crispy and was a bit holey. But the fries were great. The game ragout was okay, but it seemed like the sauce had been diluted with chemicals. All in all, we wouldn't come back.

We indulged in some desserts and drinks - the crème brûlée was executed perfectly with that satisfying crack of caramelized sugar giving way to silky smooth custard underneath. The ice cream was equally impressive, and the Keller beer selection was excellent, served at the perfect temperature. This place truly excels at creating an exceptional dining experience through its combination of beautiful ambiance, impeccable service, and high-quality offerings. I was very happy with my veal schnitzel. The service was super nice and left nothing to be desired. The atmosphere is quaint and cozy. Since the restaurant is usually very full, it's worth making a reservation.

A stay in the "Old Abbey" is always worth it: very good food, great drinks and, above all, a super friendly team!

Onlangs dit restaurantje geprobeerd, stelt zeker niet teleur. Het eten was heel erg lekker en smaakte heel authentiek, zeker de schnitzel!!! De mensen die er werken zijn ook heel vriendelijk en warm.

Get a spot spontaneously. The deer ragout was very tasty. The only thing you should have said at the beginning when ordering was that it wasn't Cola Zero that was being served, but Africola. I'm not a fan of that at all. Then I would have ordered something else. Otherwise very tasty

Top adresje. Goede kwaliteit eten. Super vriendelijke uitbaters. Kraaknet. Kaart met beperkte keuze maar alles heel vers. Allen schnitzel gegeten met kalf, varken of kip.

Good restaurant in the beautiful The town of Prüm in the so-called Schneifel. By the way, we were also greeted by an older lady with a fashionable gray short haircut The lady was very nice, polite and attentive. Everything was fine.

We ate delicious lovebirds with spinach and a fresh salad. How wonderful to be pampered and treated with all the respect. This is run by an older couple, who still believe that the customer is king.

There is parking in front of the restaurant and the location is also wheelchair accessible. There is a disabled parking space in front of the restaurant.

wir haben gut zu Abend gegessen. Fisch und Fleisch sehr gut. Das Bier war frisch gezapft, sogar 00 Bier gezapft. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Wir haben nicht lange aufs Essen gewartet. Einziger kleiner negativer Punkt: wir zahlten 0.50 Cent Aufpreis für den Wechsel von Nudeln auf Fritten. Uriges Lokal im Herzen von Prüm. Parkplatz genau gegenüber.

We spontaneously stopped by the Old Abbey and luckily got a table. Because it is very busy and it is best to make a reservation. I can fully understand why it is fully booked. The food was great and the service was very friendly and the children also felt welcome. It tastes fresh and not like frozen goods and the fries were really good too. Tasted fresh and cross. We thought the price-performance ratio was great, no exorbitant prices and still fresh. I'm not used to the quality from other restaurants. All in all we were extremely satisfied and would love to come back.

It's a shame, I would have liked to try it, but dogs are not allowed in the restaurant. This is not intended to be a negative criticism, but simply a note for anyone with a dog who sets off in vain

Bij binnenkomst om 18.15 was het hele restaurant vol. Alles gereserveerd. Gelukkig als alleengaande was er nog een zitplek beschikbaar aan de bar waar normaal alleen personen zitten om bier te drinken. Voor mij goed genoeg, want veel andere restaurants in prum waren gesloten. Schnitzel met zigeunersaus besteld, salade moet apart bijbetaald worden. Binnen 20min op tafel en smaakte heerlijk, saus was zelfgemaakt met verse ingrediënten. Er werd tevens een pot neergezet met mayonaisse/ketchup. Hiervan 2 gebruikt en tot mijn grote verrassing werd op de eindafrekening elke gebruikte mayonaisse/ketchup apart erbij berekend. Gezellige ouderwets duitse sfeer en heerlijke schnitzel, alleen wel aan de prijs, omdat alles als extra wordt berekend. Een standaard schnitzel met salade en biertje betaal je hier dus al snel tussen de 30 en 40 euro.

Service staff were very nice and quick, despite the heat. I ate a Jägerschnitzel with salad. It was just super delicious.

Price management is very good here. There is a small menu for lunch and then the large menu in between and in the evening. The food is very tasty. There are also children's meals. The service was very friendly. Absolutely recommended.

We enjoyed eating at the Zur Alten Abtei restaurant in Prüm. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. The service is friendly, competent and quick. The menu is just right, neither too extensive nor too small. There is something for everyone. We had salmon or vegetable curry and it tasted good. If desired, you can order smaller portions (not for all dishes). The price level is fair. We'd love to come back there.

The food was good. Reasonably priced. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for food. 2 tables that were seated after us, one of which was at least 20 minutes later, had almost eaten before we got our food. And if you have 2 small children with you, the wait becomes too long.

Small but sufficient selection of food, daily changing menu, nice staff. We liked it so much that we went there twice within a week.

**Enttäuschend und wiederholend schlecht – Nie wieder!** Unser Besuch im Restaurant "Zur Alten Abtei" in Prüm war erneut enttäuschend. Bereits zum fünften Mal wurden wir von der gleichen Bedienung – einer älteren Dame mit kurzem grauem Haar – bedient, die unsere Erwartungen wiederholt nicht erfüllen konnte. Beim ersten Besuch war das Essen ausgezeichnet und genau wie bestellt zubereitet. Ich hatte ein Steak, das perfekt "bleu" zubereitet war. Doch in den folgenden Besuchen ließ die Qualität stark nach. Bei unserem letzten Besuch haben wir erneut ein Steak "bleu" bestellt. Die Bedienung kam nach einer Weile zurück und teilte uns mit, dass sie vergessen hatte, den gewünschten Gargrad in der Küche anzugeben, und das Steak nun "medium" sei. Darum ging es nicht, es ging darum das es eine ganz eibfache bitte war wie ich es gerne zubereitet haben wollte. Der Chef hätte auch fragen müssen wie der Kunde das Fleisch sich wünscht. Obwohl wir von Anfang an klar gemacht hatten, dass wir unser Steak "bleu" möchten, mussten wir letztendlich das falsche Gericht akzeptieren, weil die Situation zunehmend unangenehm wurde. Darauf hin passierte fast das gleiche. Die Bedienung nahm den Teller mit dem durchgebratenen Steak zurück in die Küche und brachte ihn uns erneut mit der Bemerkung, dass es doch wirklich "medium" sei. Widerwillig nahmen wir das Steak schließlich an, aber der Mittag war bereits ruiniert. Trotz der Unannehmlichkeiten wurde das Steak von der Rechnung genommen, haben wir trozdem Trinkgeld gegeben, aber ein einfaches "Auf Wiedersehen" oder eine Entschuldigung blieben aus. Wir hatten dem Restaurant viele Chancen gegeben, doch leider wurde unser Vertrauen jedes Mal enttäuscht. Dies war definitiv unser letzter Besuch. NIE WIEDER!

Quaint, beautiful restaurant with seating inside and outside. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Rarely have I eaten such well-seasoned food. There were 2 schnitzels on the plate. So not a small portion. I was very satisfied all around and can only recommend the restaurant.

To briefly describe the restaurant "Zur alten Abtei"... Great! The food is simply great and the service was super nice, friendly and helpful. There was and is nothing to complain about, starting with the starter, a vegetable cream soup, the side salad and of course the main course. The food is super seasoned and tasty. The interior design of the restaurant is well described as rustic. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by again. Many thanks to the whole team for a lovely evening!!!

The waitress gives my food to another person and asks me if I would like the other person's food, but doesn't inform me that it costs twice as much as the food I ordered and then when spoken to she brazenly claims that I should know that and it's my fault.. ..the food itself is good.

Die alte Abtei wurde uns von Tripadvisor empfohlen und wir sind froh darauf gehört zu haben. Spontan, ohne Reservierung haben wir einen gemütlichen Tisch in einem Fass mit Messingdach bekommen. Urig! Die Bedienung war sympathisch und zuvorkommend und als ich dann die das Schnitzelklopfen aus der Küche hörte, freute ich mich; frisch und selbst gemacht schmeckt es doch am Besten. Eine weitere Besonderheit: Alkoholfries Bier vom Fass. Jetzt darf ich nicht weniger als 5 Sterne geben. Lecker, gutes Preisleistungsverhältnis, Service und Ambiente: Alles stimmig! Wir kommen gern wieder! :)

The food was freshly prepared and was of very good quality! The service was authentic and courteous and our seating for six was a large barrel whose sky was made from a brass brewery kettle. Quaint! Will be recommended immediately and we will come back! P.S.: My first non-alcoholic Pilsner on tap! Rare luck! :)

A side salad is charged separately and mayo/ketchup is also charged separately. I wouldn't have expected that.

Definitely coming back. Update on this in July..... Were here again at the weekend and it was again very tasty! The service (probably the boss) tried very hard and was really friendly! The new waitress still has a lot to learn, but this is only a small point and everyone knows that good staff is hard to find. We were very pleased that dogs are less welcome here!! Update as of 03/30/24 We have been here several times and are now actually regular customers. We like the uncomplicated, cozy, rustic atmosphere here! The service staff is very nice and on the ball and the owner is always warm and attentive! Very clean place and the best salad ever!

DOGS NOT ALLOWED We weren't even allowed into the restaurant because we had a dog with us. Now the restaurant operator has requested that the review be deleted because he feels his personal rights have been violated. The fact is that dogs are not allowed in the area. But how are we supposed to prove that we were there if we don't have an invoice or something like that... This is a great way to make your reviews look good...

The old abbey in Prüm is a very cozy restaurant. The food was very good and the portions were sufficient. The service is very friendly and accommodating. The toilets are very clean. We really liked it and we will definitely go there again.

Unfortunately very disappointing. Yesterday the four of us visited the restaurant at the old abbey. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. We ordered a before/main and dessert. The food came every 5 minutes like it was on a conveyor belt, so you just couldn't enjoy the food. It gave the impression that they wanted to clear the table quickly. The food is nothing special that you would have to visit the restaurant for. The absolute disappointment was then discovered on the bill. A flat rate of 50 cents was charged because the fries were replaced by Röstis (frozen Röstis). This was called “compensation for expenses” on the invoice😂 Little things like that can definitely make you unpopular. Unfortunately there will be no further visit.

It's been a long time since I last had such a good meal! Simply delicious! The potato soup was perfectly seasoned. For the main course I had the salmon - simply amazing! I could even have licked the sauce from the side salad off the plate. The portions were plentiful, the service was great, and the price was totally okay too! We'll definitely be back - I have to try my hand at the menu now! Oh yes: there is a very cozy atmosphere and the restaurant is furnished with great attention to detail🤗

Very tasty food, good prices and very accommodating! We were greeted by name on the second visit (in quick succession)! So we were immediately recognized, even though no one had yet looked at the reservations. That's what I call customer-oriented service!

We were able to get a table at the last minute on a Friday of holiday season. And we were very glad! My spouse ate here when they were in the area previously and had talked about how delicious it was. We were not disappointed this time either! Food was delicious, service was very pleasant, and the atmosphere fits. Highly recommend!

Wir waren spontan im Gasthaus zur alten Abtei, nachdem wir bei eifler Oktoberwetter Wandern gewesen sind. Unsere 4 Kinder waren willkommen und gerne gesehen, es gab eine nette Kinderkarte zu sehr fairen Preisen. Die übrigen Gerichte waren auch sehr lecker- besonders der Gulasch war wirklich sehr gut. Am Ende haben unsere Kinder sogar noch Gummibärchen bekommen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Die alte Abtei ist ein gemütliches Lokal im Zentrum von Prüm. Bedienung immer nett und stets ein Lächeln auf den Lippen. Das Essen sehr lecker und die Wartezeiten kurz. Preise angemessen, nicht überteuert. Meinerseits sehr zu empfehlen!
