Price-performance ratio is absolutely right here! Friendly service and really delicious food!

Even in times of Corona, our monastery in Kempten is a model restaurant with very nice staff, excellent cuisine, delicious Allgäu beer, inexpensive and cozy. Many thanks to the entire pen team.

Always enjoy going to the monastery to eat. Crusty roast with potato dumplings is my favorite meal there. As a bedside table, the Kaiserschmarrn is simply a dream

The building is very reminiscent of the Munich Hofbräuhaus and probably dates from the same time. Mainly dishes from Bavarian and Allgäu cuisine as well as beer specialties from the Allgäu brewery. The price-performance ratio is right. Can only recommend the Altes Brauhaus.

Many thanks to the landlady and her team and the guests for the quick organization of the emergency room and their touching care for me and my partner and the supply of drinks that we were not even allowed to pay for. We appreciate this very much, because this is no longer a given today. We'll have our planned meal after my broken ligament has healed. Thank you Petra

All in a very well-kept restaurant with a great atmosphere. The meal left both of us with a bit of an upset stomach afterward. Although it was very tasty on site. Therefore a little deduction when eating. But at least it tasted delicious and the service was a sensation. She darts through the hallways and pleases everyone.

Rustic restaurant, very centrally located

We had dinner at this place a few days ago with my family and we were really enthusiastic about it! The environment is very clean and welcoming, perfect for spending a pleasant evening. Special thanks go to Silvana, the waitress who welcomed us with great kindness and served us professionally throughout the evening, even though our German was zero! One aspect that I particularly appreciated is the presence of a menu suitable for children, something that is not so obvious in Germany, at least in the places I have been to. The food was simply excellent: generous dishes, well presented and, above all, delicious. I chose a cheese soup that I still dream about, while the meat dishes were all delicious. To end on a high note, the dessert was truly amazing! An excellent choice from every point of view. If I were to return to Kempten, I have no doubts: I will definitely return!

The food was absolutely top but unfortunately the service was very unfriendly and constantly said stupid things to us Very rude to guests (she was a lady). It's a shame

Great food in a nice atmosphere

Friday is cheese spaetzle day is loved by me and all of Kempten for it. The other typical Bavarian dishes are also an absolute recommendation. We come here regularly and also like to come here with friends and recommend it especially to tourists who want to experience Bavaria the way it really tastes.

Authentic cuisine with incredibly motivated employees and the service lady “Bianca” is simply authentically great! We had our lunch here with thread soup and roast pork and were not disappointed. I had the Safran Risotto and wasn't very good. The rice was overcooked and mushy. Service was good. The atmosphere is really nice. I would recommend it for someone who eats meat.

Very cozy brewery with TOP service staff.

Feiertag im Allgäu, wer nicht ausgebucht war, hatte geschlossen. Trotz später Anfrage wurde Testerfrank im Stift noch ein Tisch reserviert, das Abendessen dann war exzellent. Schon an der Pastinakencreme mit raffinierter Gemüsegarnitur war nichts auszusetzen, die resche Ente auf Blaukraut dann ein Highlight. An Getränken herrschte kein Mangel, ehrliche Weine und gepflegtes Bier. Trotz schmaler Besetzung und vollem Haus waren die Herren und Damen vom Service freundlich und immer um den Gast bemüht.

The three of us had lunch in the "Stift" today - roast pork, Kässpätzle, Maultaschen. Excellent cuisine, well-kept beers, very friendly service despite being busy, beautiful, very clean facilities - we were thrilled and would be happy to come back if the road takes us to Kempten. If you want to eat very good Bavarian-Swabian food, you can't avoid the "Pen". I would also like to give it a 6th star!

Despite the high volume, the service was excellent - friendly, attentive and well organized. The food was simply fantastic, everything fresh and tastefully prepared. Ein schönes altehrwürdiges Gewölbe ist es in dem man hier speist. Dennoch ist alles modern, sauber und gemütlich. Die freundlichen Bedienungen bringen einem nach kurzer Wartezeit vom Eingang zum Sitzplatz. Die Auswahl ist vielfältig und die Portionen sehr groß und schmackhaft bei moderaten Preisen. Der einzige Nachteil für gehbehinderte Personen ist, dass die Toiletten sich im Keller befinden und es führt nur eine Treppe nach unten.

It is a beautiful, time-honored vault where you can dine here. Nevertheless, everything is modern, clean and cozy. After a short wait, the friendly waitresses will take you from the entrance to your seat. The selection is varied and the portions are very large and tasty at moderate prices. The only disadvantage for people with walking difficulties is that the toilets are in the basement and there is only one staircase leading down.

Large restaurant where modern meets traditional. Service was impeccable, polite and loving. The food is delicious. Clear recommendation.

Yes, it was during the lead up to Christmas. Yes, it was quite busy, but a good restaurant should be able to cope with that. As it was, we often felt forgotten about, and the food, while tasty, arrived over quite a long time period. We'll give it another try at a less busy time.

12/12/24 Update: Still great. I like to go there when I'm in Kempten. Nice staff. Good home-style food. Delicious beer. Gladly again! Not the first time (meal) there. I really liked it again. Food great. Service was really great. Despite some special requests regarding table selection and food, everything was under control and super friendly and funny. I'll be back.

Review of the Allgäu plate: My pork fillets were still bloody on the inside - that's not my thing. Käsespätzle were tasty, although very little. Maultaschen was cold, the cabbage donut was okay. General: Good service and otherwise probably good food.

Saturday evening before the 2nd Advent without a reservation......, we were turned away everywhere except at “Zum Stift”. It was unbelievable, as an apology for waiting (15 minutes) we were given a free drink. The entire staff was attentive and not only that…… food, beer,…… everything at a reasonable price-performance ratio. We felt comfortable, left full and satisfied and…… will come back.

A visit to “Zum Stift” is a must for us. The friendly and fast service is also great. Had a very good meal again this afternoon. For me it was Krautkrapfen with sauce and for my wife it was Kässpatzen. Please keep it up 👍 until next time 😉👍

Large restaurant in the center of Kempten. Diverse selection of dishes. Decent portions and very good quality. The staff is quick and friendly. However, it was too warm in the guest room on the last visit. Still worth a visit.

Very positive in all areas! We had an excellent dinner with above-average service (Kevin) was on our bill. The host family is happy appreciate being able to employ such competent staff. We would be happy to come back and recommend it to others. Good time

Food and drinks delicious. Unfortunately the portion size for the pork roast was too small. 1 dumpling and two slices of roast. The portions of the Allgäupfännle and the Wiener-style schnitzel were great! Service was ok.

My wife and I spontaneously came here to eat. We were immediately escorted to a table. The service was very friendly and accommodating. My wife had a salad and schnitzel with potato salad... which were both very good. I got a cheese soup as a starter ...a creamy delight...and as a main course the plate with Maultaschen, cabbage donuts, cheese patties, pork fillet and mushroom cream sauce. Everything was very tasty and the portions were large Praise from us to you.👍😋

Great modernized yet traditional inn with charm, great service and delicious food. Price-performance ratio is very good. We had 2x Kässpatzen, 1x onion roast, 1x pork knuckle as well as 1x Kinderspatzen with sauce and 1x Kinderkäspatzen. Everything was very tasty and the portions were big enough. Despite it being late at lunchtime, the restaurant was still very busy and there were a lot of local guests there during the week, which is always a good sign.

A really great and quaint restaurant. The service is first class. The food was good and it was a very large portion. Unfortunately my meat contained some flax and it wasn't medium rare either. Given the steep prices, that shouldn't happen.

Well-kept old inn in the best Location! We ordered the Viennese style schnitzel and a Kaiserschmarrn 4 times and couldn't find anything wrong with it! It was just good, as we expected. The visit rounded off your holiday in the Allgäu! Our two large dogs were also allowed to sit in the dining room and were served by the staff for their good behavior! Very nice service. Thanks for that! Parking in public spaces only with a parking ticket.

Staff was great, our waiter provided great service because the food wasn't correct. (Red cabbage only tasted like fat, the knuckle was dry and only lukewarm.) New dish offered to make up for it, schnapps on the house.

Despite the inn being fully reserved, we were offered a place at the regulars' table. Which we gratefully accepted. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food is simply amazing. I can only warmly recommend this inn. Top.

The young receptionist was cool and curt, but not unfriendly. The waiter was very warm and friendly (but not fake friendly), and he had a sense of when to speak to us and when not. At the beginning the ambience was a bit loud, as someone at the next table shouted his self-important sayings across three tables; After that, the volume level was quite acceptable. The menu offers a wide selection of very attractive dishes, making it difficult to choose. The prices aren't exactly great, but everything has become more expensive and we're in Kempten (I can't compare the prices with other restaurants, though). The food came quickly. My Allgäu plate was wonderful and very plentiful, and the person opposite me also obviously enjoyed his crusty roast (he had recommended the pen). The Allgäu platter says “pork fillet” on the menu. There were THREE fillets - considerable quantity and tender as butter. The only point of criticism (but that's complaining at the highest level): A "mushroom cream ragout" is plenty of mushrooms with a little sauce, and not a sauce with very few mushrooms. This sauce also tasted very good, although given the otherwise excellent quality of the food I would have expected fresh mushrooms rather than canned ones. Bottom line: absolute recommendation!
