A rustic, cozy restaurant with very friendly service. The food came quickly, my friends had the main courses with black pudding or liver - both were okay. Only the schnitzel (with fried egg) was unfortunately pretty terrible yesterday: greasy, tough, breading solid, the meat with little taste; it looked like it had been thrown from the freezer into the deep fryer. The fact that the schnitzel was so small wasn't a big deal in this case. We asked that our criticism be passed on to the kitchen. We hope that something changes quickly with the schnitzels for the otherwise recommended restaurant.

Very authentic place. Almost impossible in this area. So be it. No matter, Ur Berlin pub with charm, with beer, with friendly service and with very tasty food. Forgetting a bit about time and the outside. Unfortunately it's already half past nine.

Food okay. Just home cooking. But that's how we chose it. What didn't work was when you still had the fork in your mouth and the boss came running and literally ripped your plate away! I was still chewing and was so perplexed that I could only mumble that I would like to finish eating in peace. No chance, the plate was gone! Absolutely unprofessional! You got the feeling that you just had to walk quickly to make room! Professional service training would be strongly recommended here!

Awesome atmosphere about this place. Saw some reviews that thought the place was a little too cliche, but this place is the real deal, all of the cliches come from places like this. Especially considering that the original restaurant (before its destruction during WWII) was open since the early 1700s at the latest. If you can get a seat here, go and experience it. The staff has some English proficiency, so be aware of that. Overall great experience, I’d assume that most of the negative reviews stem from the small size of the place, but don’t listen to them if you want an authentic experience. Seemed like mostly locals there, so I think the authenticity is there!

Looking for a place in the San Nicolás neighborhood of Berlin, but somewhat away from the river bank, we found this restaurant in a little corner, cozy, endearing, typical, traditional and adorable. The service was friendly and careful. Very attentive. The menu has all the Berlin and German dishes you can look for. Rich and copious. Desserts, delicious, good beer. Nothing expensive, for the offer. Very good choice to eat, in an atmosphere that will make you feel like a German from before the forties... We would return without hesitation.

Good simple home cooking. Had the goulash soup which was very nice. The location is in a reproduced building that was destroyed in WWII. Somewhat "Disneyesque" but charming. Very cozy atmosphere.

We've been back to the old Berlin pub Zum Nussbaum for some time now. Unfortunately, we discovered that the dishes were only cooked and prepared out of the packaging. Formed meat as schnitzel (17.20 €) fried potatoes from the packaging, mashed potatoes from Pfanni or something similar from the bag and coleslaw from the discounter and and... This has nothing to do with Berlin cuisine, pure tourist catch at inflated prices. Too bad! The service is still very authentic and nice.

We stopped for a quick aperitif and were satisfied. The beers were excellent, and the baked potatoes, chosen as an accompaniment, truly delicious. The place is very beautiful and with attention to detail. It's definitely worth a visit!

I have not been to the restaurant, but the appearance and architecture of this building left me in awe! Authentic German architecture with a beautiful ambience and one of the most charming streets in Berlin.

A cold Sunday evening in December. The food was good. We had three specials: Rollmops (pickled herring), Garlic sausage with Kale and potatoes, and a baked potato and salad, with a piece of apple cake for dessert. Without drinks (great beer!) about €28. Portions were right sized. Service was pleasant and very fast. The atmosphere is perfect.

Out of Berlin, then into the Nußbaum, very tasty food, the friendliest service in Berlin, it was wonderful.

A great place on the Berlin map, definitely worth recommending. A unique German atmosphere, almost only locals in the pub, very nice and helpful staff, and the food and draft beer are delicious. I highly recommend it!

On the way to look for a restaurant that had been recommended to us, we saw a neighborhood with lights and a cool atmosphere, we crossed the street and took a walk, we saw several bars but when we saw this one, small with local people, a typical tavern, we went in to have a beer and we say eat, we wait a little and have dinner, everything delicious and a good atmosphere.

We wanted to try typical German cuisine and we definitely found the perfect stop in the coziest area of Berlin. The food was tasty, as the schnitzel was crunchy and the bratwurst really delicious. We also appreciate the cost of desserts, as for now it’s rare to find them less than €5.

They pretend to be friendly, but there is subtle discrimination. The food comes out late compared to the surrounding area, and the response is slow. The food isn't bad.

Official info: The Gasthaus Zum Nußbaum was a traditional tavern at Fischerstrasse 21 in Alt-Kölln, which today stands as a replica in the Nikolaiviertel. The original and current restaurant owe their name to the walnut tree in front of it. This house became famous thanks to Heinrich Zille, who had been a regular guest here since 1906 and whose “Milljöh sketches” adorned the walls. The original restaurant was completely destroyed in the bombing night of April 28, 1945. Rebuilt in 1981

Was ignored by the waiter. Stood and watched other people being served. Went to a nearby restaurant where I was instantly surrounded by attention and care.

We were looking for a restaurant on the Spree and luckily didn't find anything. Ended up here. Fortunately. Very good, nice rustic atmosphere, nice waiters and the food was good too. The beer is definitely recommended.

Stumbled upon it by chance in search of a somewhat picturesque setting. It tastes like an old Bavarian tavern. The lady who served was very kind. I asked for a dish off the menu and he prepared it without any problems. The cutlet and sausage with side dishes are excellent. Background music. I recommend it to anyone looking for a picturesque interlude in modern Berlin

We had our regulars' table in this restaurant today. The service was nice, but unfortunately there was no request for drinks after ordering. Only after about 45 minutes were we asked if we could have anything else. I think my Meier-style schnitzel for the hefty price of €17.90 was steep, considering that it looked like a frozen schnitzel and it wasn't particularly big either. However, the veal liver looked good. Unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations

Berlin again, here again. Super nice, funny service, good food as always and beer and Berliner Weisse rounded off the evening Recommended in hot weather: brawn with fried potatoes. Always happy to be with you. Very nice restaurant, good down-to-earth food at moderate prices. The service was really attentive, the beer was wonderful. Lentils with bockwurst are recommended. Ate a prefabricated schnitzel, much like at any fast food place in Sweden. However, the location is fine. The service is tight but not unfriendly.

We have been here twice. It's our favorite place for German food. Everything is delicious, and the service is excellent. They have a great outdoor seating area. I would recommend the German Meatballs! Very delicious.

One of the waiters was super unpleasant, he had his hair up. I asked him if he would help me in English and he gave me a really bad face and answered everything in German.

We like going here. Service is always quick and friendly. Drinks are good anyway and so is the food. You can sit comfortably both inside and outside.

Probably a small, cozy pub with maybe good food? We were there on Saturday evening, the small beer garden was well attended and a table for four was still available. When asked whether there was room for four people inside, the temporary (???) waiter replied in a rather unprofessional and dismissive manner. By that I don't mean the famous "Berlin snout", but more along the lines of "It's already too much for me and I don't feel like any more stress". Dear innkeeper, good staff is hard to find. But does it have to be an employee like that? We ignored the table in front of the pub (which was not suggested as an alternative) and left our money in the neighboring restaurant with delicious food and drinks. There are still many restaurants and pubs around the corner that like to make money from tourists.

A wonderful institution, I really liked it, it is perfect for any meal, very tasty and cozy atmosphere, I recommend it to everyone.

Excellent. Small restaurant, good German style and typical German food in the medieval neighborhood of San Nicolás. We ordered herrings, excellent, schnitzel, excellent and knuckle also excellent, even though it is Berlin style (boiled) and not the Bavarian style, which is braised , but it was very good and accompanied by pea puree, and obviously sauerkraut. There is a surprising number of traditional German restaurants in the Nikolaiviertel area but I think this one claims closest proximity to the actual church. With outdoor sitting just a few steps from the church courtyard, you get a very small village experience in the heart of Berlin! Or if the weather doesn't agree, there is very quaint inside seating that can fit a few groups. The service is your standard German service and they're friendly enough (and they speak English). You'll be paying Nikolaiviertel/Mitte prices, but you're really paying for the atmosphere, which in my opinion is worth it since the food is actually really good! I got a Schnitzel a la Meier (fried egg on top) while my date opted for the Bratwurst. While it wasn't the best schnitzel in town, it was actually tasty and comes with potatoes and cabbage. All in all, I'd say this is a fantastic option if you're in the area and looking primarily for a gorgeous, relaxed atmosphere near the church and are agreeable to some traditional German dishes. Oh and get the cheesecake!

An excellent traditional German restaurant in the Medieval Nikolaiviertel right next to the church. The prices are OK and the food is tasty. Service is good. I suggest you try their special kind of schnitzel and the cocktail Strawberry Punch. The Berlitz guide for Berlin was right about suggesting this place, we came across unknowingly and realised only later how reputable Nußbaum was. Highly recommended.

Service was lovely. Food was okay, hearty German affair. In fairness we all cleared our plates. Nothing at all fancy, but that might just be, the order of the day. Good location in the old town for a simple feed.

Unfortunately not recommended unless you like ready-made products. I thought I would eat "dead grandma" in my hometown for a long time, and it was specifically pointed out that everything here is freshly cooked. The mashed potatoes were so bad (watery, tasteless), why can't you make this from fresh potatoes, it's actually not that much effort. The potato salad and smoked pork were also by far the worst in a long time. Anyone who insists on tasteless dishes and food for toothless people is in good hands here.

Anyone looking for a cozy spot for a relaxed lunch might initially be drawn to this seemingly tourist-friendly restaurant. With a menu that definitely meets the usual expectations and a location that probably appeals to many travelers, the restaurant at first glance offers everything you need for a little break. But the real battle for sensory pleasure begins once you decide to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here the experience is marred by an unexpected challenge: an endless flood of street musicians whose musical "talents" seem rather intimidating. One saxophonist in particular stands out – and unfortunately not in a positive way. For 15 years he has been playing the same five songs, which he still can't seem to master. This musical perennial favorite turns what could be a pleasant lunch into a test of patience. These musicians, whose performances seem to be characterized less by a love of music than by a desire to make quick money, dominate the atmosphere and leave little room for relaxed conversation. It seems as if the aim is less to enrich passers-by artistically and more to provide financial relief for tourists. So the conclusion remains: The restaurant itself may be averagely satisfactory, but the experience is severely impaired by the incessant and intrusive sound from the street musicians. So if you value peace and quiet while eating, you might want to consider another location where the music is easy on the ears and doesn't tax your patience.
