Baret in Berlin

Went on a recommendation. Interesting location. Probably fun on the terrace in the summer. Food very average and overpriced. Good waiters but won’t be going again. The only dish which enjoyable was a great leek and potato soup

We visited Baret for Valentine’s Day, and while we appreciated the friendly and attentive service, the overall experience felt somewhat disorganized. The biggest issue was the waiting time—we ended up spending over four hours at the restaurant, much longer than expected. The main dish, in particular, took more than an hour to arrive. The restaurant did apologize for the delay, but it was handled a bit awkwardly. I was offered a complimentary glass of champagne, but my boyfriend, who doesn’t drink, wasn’t offered an alternative, which felt a bit inconsiderate. Speaking of drinks, the set menu came with champagne and wine pairings, but there didn’t seem to be much thought given to non-alcoholic alternatives. While we managed to order some cocktails and lemonade, it felt like there could have been a more curated non-alcoholic pairing, especially considering that many people don’t drink alcohol. As for the food, none of the dishes really stood out to us. The main course, which we waited quite a long time for, wasn’t to our taste—it had a very intense, salty flavor that we both found overwhelming. Of course, this might be subjective, but unfortunately, we just didn’t enjoy it. The other courses were fine, but none were particularly memorable. There were also a few service mishaps. A drink pairing for the main course was forgotten, and at a nearby table, a vegetarian guest was initially served a non-vegetarian dish. When the mistake was realized, only one plate was taken back, leaving the other person waiting for their meal for another 30 minutes, which felt a bit awkward. We understand that Valentine’s Day is a particularly busy evening for restaurants, and it’s possible that Baret usually operates more smoothly. But since this was supposed to be a special occasion, the long waits, forgotten drink pairings, and overall lack of polish made the experience feel a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was just an off night, but unfortunately, it left us with a less-than-pleasant impression.

Phenomenal evening with friends. I rarely write a review, but the beret deserves it. We tried our way through the menu and unfortunately we couldn't finish everything because we were already full. A special highlight for us was the hard cheese in combination with the pickled walnuts. The Baret also offers matching wines with special notes and the right glasses. When it comes to the main courses, every dish outdid each other. We would particularly like to highlight the octopus, very cleverly made. We will be raving about the many different flavor compositions and the quality for a long time, really high-quality components are masterfully brought together here. An absolute insider tip for those who want to experience something special in terms of taste. If you're expecting currywurst, schnitzel and the like, you're in the wrong place. The interior design with attention to detail speaks for itself. We would also like to praise the very professional, friendly and particularly authentic staff; we received excellent advice and service. Here you can tell that the staff fits the special concept of the restaurant. We will definitely be back and will enjoy the breathtaking view along with great food and drinks on the roof terrace in summer at the latest. Many greetings to the beret

A magical spot in the heart of Berlin! As an 'almost-Berliner,' I’m still amazed that you can dine here with such an incredible view, wonderfully warm service, and an outstanding, creative menu (that caramelized butter and octopus—wow!). The entire place radiates warmth and charm. From the welcoming host at the entrance to the bartenders and the amazing team serving the menus, everyone is incredibly friendly and personal. Special shoutout to George and Oscar—you made our evening truly extraordinary!

It serves as an ideal venue for a scenic lunch or an early evening aperitif, though those seeking a truly memorable gastronomic experience may find themselves looking elsewhere.

A short breakfast for two, inexpensive and tasty, very relaxed atmosphere and international.

We went there for dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Monday (September 23rd) on the last beautiful and warm day and had a table outside. We had a really great evening with a very attentive waitress as well as delicious food (main course + dessert) and delicious drinks (aperitif, wine and liqueur). The many very negative comments surprise me - for example: The loud music would have been annoying if we had sat inside... Gourmet restaurant is perhaps a bit high and you can certainly eat cheaper - BUT: The location is great, especially if you sit outside. And yes, we may have been lucky with our waitress... For us it was definitely a great evening all around!

Mediocre food, mediocre service, steep prices. Cool location but that doesn't make up for it all. I will not come back and would not recommend the restaurant to anyone who expects fine dining. In particular, I could have done better with the salad at home without any effort.

The location is really excellent, but there are clear weaknesses in the service. Unfortunately, the staff lacks knowledge of German, which can be problematic for guests who don't speak English. The cleanliness of the toilets also left something to be desired, and the loud music, which is more suitable for a bar, does not contribute to a pleasant atmosphere while eating. In addition, the price-performance ratio is not right: for two main courses, non-alcoholic drinks and without starters or desserts you have to expect to pay over €60, which doesn't seem justified.

Not bad very bad service for a good place

The food is okay, it feels like a German restaurant that strives to be exquisite. It's far from meticulous, but it feels like it's taken care of. The view is first-rate, and the space is very comfortable. It's worth walking around.

The restaurant on the roof of the Berlin Palace undoubtedly offers breathtaking views over Berlin, and we are very grateful that the staff on the phone were cooperative and allowed us to have a table with this beautiful view upon request. The design of the chairs is attractive, but they show clear signs of wear. The seat padding has deformed, affecting comfort. Unfortunately, the restaurant overall didn't seem as well maintained as you would expect from a place like this. The menu was contaminated with dried stains, which spoiled the first impression. There were also a few stains visible on the walls, which reinforced the impression of a lack of cleanliness. As expected, the prices are high - but a small cup of tea for six euros is already at the upper limit. The food itself was very tasty, which we would like to highlight as a clear plus point. Nevertheless, a clean and well-kept ambience contributes significantly to the overall experience, and unfortunately there is room for improvement here. Overall, a mixed impression remains: great views and good food, but the ambience urgently needs more attention. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I was disappointed, I expected more. The service staff very friendly. The ambience and the tables are very simple. There's no wow effect there. I think summer makes up for it all. So I'll come back when it's warmer because the view is wow.

To my experience, the taste and the atmosphere of the place was on top. I was lucky to be served by George and felt so much attention about myself that never was experienced before… He helped me with my choices of drinks and meals and despite of my poor German and English ( I was ordering almost in Spanish ) everything was in the spot. Also Host Maria was very sweet and attentive, helped me to choose a nice table with a great view

Thank you for the special experience! The service and the explanations/recommendations about the menu were courteous, excellent and not intrusive! Congratulations to the kitchen for an exceptional taste composition and excellent quality of the dishes. It's not about presenting tried and tested dishes in a particularly elaborate way, but rather about breaking new ground and offering them at a very high level. Not to forget: the pleasant atmosphere and the fantastic view over Berlin. There can be a little more (in terms of price)! I always enjoy being surprised! Update: I've been there several times now and every time it's a fantastic experience. The menu offers new surprises at the highest level and the service is constantly improving. Customer requests are responded to appropriately and in a friendly manner.

Very good dishes and affordable menu but the service does not live up to the standard of the restaurant. Intrusive waiters who clear the plate of anyone who has finished without waiting for everyone at the same table to finish. I also had to ask twice for a napkin because each time the waitress got carried away and cleared away absolutely everything. Not very professional service. Too bad because the dishes are excellent.

Great quiet place and crazy view honestly an incredible roof top I recommend!!! Price a little excessive but considering the place it is worth having a drink there. Slightly complicated access to find but once found it’s really a relaxing place. I highly recommend doing it at least once during your stay in Berlin!

Great view, subterranean food: overpriced, carelessly prepared, taste-wise a disaster. The cod was partly raw, which the waiter acknowledged with a shrug.

First the person who controls access to the elevator asked us to take a paid ticket to go up to the restaurant... He let other people pass, without a ticket, without asking them anything... Weird! The service was very poorly done, obviously by unprofessional although smiling people. This spoiled the experience for us, because the dishes were quite good and the setting pleasant, but given the prices (expensive) we should have had a service that was up to par.

way overpriced due to location, pretentious menue, low quality food and ingredients...they poured pure vinegar in salad, when I asked for another dressing due to allergy...only coffee is good...come for views and coffee and standard fast food fries for 9 euros (big portion)

On November 14th, 21 there was a review as follows: "Location and view really a highlight. Soft opening menu clear but with something for many. Service friendly and attentive. BUT the result was twice bitterly DISAPPOINTED: On Saturday evening for six with a reservation: drinks, starters and main courses ordered. After about 1 hour we received information that the kitchen could no longer cook the food. I'm sorry, what? After a short discussion, at least one (1) dish came for everyone; not necessarily the dish ordered. Unfortunately, otherwise no “compensation”. On Sunday afternoon, three of us without a reservation: ordered drinks and one dish each. After 45 minutes the first request for the food. After 60 minutes, food was canceled, complained, left. At least drinks not charged. Very unfortunate. The restaurant has potential but there is a need for this in particular Price levels still require significant improvements in too many “disciplines.” Now an attempt is being made to request that Google delete the review on the grounds of defamation. This assessment corresponds to the fact that the actions of those who legally speak of defamation are absurd. I hope that the beret has improved in the meantime. However, trying to influence reviews in this way is not possible!

Unfortunately I have to correct my rating to one star. We had a relatively bad meal here for a relatively large amount of money. Meanwhile we are threatened by a lawyer that the review is fake. Well, she isn't. Maybe the management should worry about cooking decent food instead of using legal means to prevent well-intentioned, justified criticism.

The three of us were at the Baret Restaurant in the Humboldt Forum in Berlin and had mixed impressions. We actually just wanted to eat a little something, but the menu reads quite sophisticated and hardly offers any smaller dishes - overall the selection was very manageable. In the end we decided on a coffee and enjoyed it to the fullest, because the breathtaking view over Berlin is definitely the highlight of the restaurant. Of course, you also pay for this view in the price of the drinks, but it's worth it. A tip: Be sure to reserve in advance! Without a reservation you either don't get in at all or pay €3 entry to access the roof terrace. It was something special, especially at Christmas time, and the terrace is certainly even more beautiful in the summer. We also really liked the modern and stylish furnishings of the restaurant. Conclusion: Absolutely recommended for a coffee with a magnificent view - but it's better to make a reservation!

We had cake and drinks, both of which were incredibly tasty. The organization was very good. You can use the beautiful roof terrace free of charge (very good view). Toilets are clean.

After visiting the roof terrace of the castle, we spontaneously wanted to stop here for lunch. Most of the places, especially the nice ones, were reserved - because with a reservation you can save a few euros at the checkout for the visit ;). Since we were then assigned a place in lounge furniture, we just had a coffee...

I give full marks. .. the ambience, welcome and placement were extremely nice. Service courteous. The map is rather reduced, minimalist. You sit very comfortably and at a relaxed distance from other tables. Overall, the 5 of us had a very nice evening. At the end, briefly on the terrace, “Berlin by Night” is a highlight.

Bar and a restaurant, chic atmosphere, a bit expensive. The location is excellent, the rooftop of Humboldt Forum Museum. The food is a bit “pretentious gourmet”, but tasty. Menu changes often. Good place for a date.

Idk why the reviews aren't that good, it is a gorgeous restaurant, such a nice ambiance that is perfect for a romantic dinner, the food was delicious, the wines were nice (I recommend the natural wines), and the service was class. Above the roofs of Berlin. Great view and an upscale atmosphere. The menu is unusual, but there is something for every taste. In terms of price, it's in the upper third, but the location and the ambience obviously have their price. Advance reservation is highly recommended...

Music was a bit loud, but drinks were great !

I was here for dinner with a larger group on business. The ambience is wonderful with a unique view over Berlin. The quality, taste and presentation of the dishes were excellent, but the portions of the menu were too small even for fine dining. At the end of the 3-course meal, very few participants were full. Therefore there are only 4 stars for the food here. Unfortunately we had to wait a long time for each course. In addition, the service was subpar. Not only were the waitresses unable to refill drinks without being asked, the apparently senior waiter was also extremely rude and snotty. Given the high prices, the restaurant's presumably generous income would definitely be well invested if it were used to train the staff.

The ambience is very nice, as is the outside terrace...the food is good to look at on the plates, unfortunately not anymore...if you're eating vegan, just leave out the egg and don't add an alternative to the mushroom fricasse...it's a shame then that's the name of the dish Mushrooms without a side dish...that's better...

We had a table by the window, the view was nice...the prices are completely exorbitant in relation to the ambience there...when we took a closer look at the furniture, for example, we were a bit horrified, it was stained, some of the fabric was worn...not very inviting and sophisticated...especially given the price level...but the service was attentive...the toilets were unfortunately also unclean...the conclusion is that only tourists could feel reasonably comfortable here, because of the view and the Location in the Humboldt Forum, as a tourist highlight. Too bad.

Brilliant place with a fantastic panorama over the rooftops of the heart of Berlin.

Yesterday I spent a wonderful day in Berlin with a friend to show her some of my favorite places. She was particularly excited about the beret, which she had never seen before, and the inside of the Humboldt Forum. We chose the perfect time to enjoy our drinks on the roof terrace - the view from up there was simply breathtaking. From the terrace you could overlook the city in all its splendor: the majestic Berlin Cathedral, the imposing television tower, the historic streets of Unter den Linden and even Potsdamer Platz. My friend was completely amazed by this perspective and could hardly believe that there was such a magical place in the middle of the city. The drinks we tried there were also special. First there was a refreshing lemonade with grapefruit and rosemary, later an Aperol at sunset - but with an Amalfi lemon, which gave the drink a unique touch. It was a wonderful two and a half hours that we spent on the roof terrace, accompanied by very attentive and friendly service. When it got a little cooler towards the evening, they even brought us blankets to keep us warm - a particularly warm service. I can really highly recommend this place. I haven't tried the food there yet, but I'll definitely do so next time. All in all, a perfect place for a relaxing time with a fantastic view over Berlin.

The Baret is on the roof of the Berlin City Forum. On the roof terrace you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of Berlin Mitte, such as the cathedral, Alexanderplatz, red town hall, etc.

Above the roofs of Berlin. You can see the Reichstag, the Alex and much more. The food is delicious and the price-performance ratio is top. The service is quick and friendly.

Summary: well this quite an underrated restaurant and place for a nice drink or coffee, I don’t know where the bad rating comes from but my experience was delicious food with very friendly service at a somewhat elevated price but good value and an amazing view over Berlin; additionally, if you visit the restaurant the access to the rooftop is free, so I recommend you save the €5 Humboldt Forum rooftop fee and „invest“ it in a coffee or drink instead Best dish: so far, wild mushroom Frikassee Dishes (- negative / = ok / + positive): + wild mushroom Frikassee: very well-seasoned dish with nice roast of mushrooms; only negative is the flavor of the sour dough bread with it, is a bit to strong strong for the mushrooms disguising some of their delicious flavor Service: + very friendly service = outside a little bit slow, but friendly Price: + elevated prices, but good value with nice presentation Atmosphere: + cool atmosphere inside - the interior is a bit worn down + amazing view on the rooftop: the pictures speak for themselves + both inside and outside seating available + good for food, a coffee or a drink —> they have an extensive drinks and cocktail menu My rating system - I focus on the food first and foremost. I aim to be truthful and try not to be biased by friendly service or other circumstances. 5*: excellent - I am rigorous in handing out 5* ratings 4*: good 3*: ok 2*: bad 1*: terrible

Great view over Berlin, poor food, unfortunately a disappointment. I expected much more.

Extensive drinks menu, small dining menu. We were able to try almost everything for 6 tons. Food and drinks were impeccable. The lights are dimmed from 7 p.m. and after that it gets cozy.

Spontaneously, on a weekend, with a beautiful view and a pleasant atmosphere, we opened a restaurant in the center of Berlin... Yes, it was Baret. We were lucky, the dishes were excellent (the order was fulfilled quite quickly), the service was organized at a good level. Then you could enjoy your meal and a gorgeous view of Berlin. Great atmosphere on the roof terrace of the Humboldt Forum. But prices are crisp.

We actually had high expectations, the view was great, especially in the evening you have a fantastic view. The service was friendly, but not very attentive; it took forever for plates to be cleared. The food looked really excellent on the menu, but the pappardelle with spinach was really sticky and seemed warmed up rather than freshly prepared. The Swabian bratwursts weren't something to remember either. However, the fresh sourdough bread was very tasty, the juniper butter was too salty. Unfortunately too expensive for what was offered. It's a shame, but there's still room for improvement.

We were there (only) for coffee, but: Baret clearly thrives on location. The coffee and cheesecake were very good, but the prices corresponded to the location (very high up in Berlin). The “service”, however, was subpar. In total we are between the ground floor and possibly the first floor.

The service is trying hard, but a bit inexperienced and uncoordinated. The view is magnificent and the food and drinks are really good.

A good restaurant where you can relax. You could see the Festival of Lights clearly from up here because the terrace was open.

Prices are well above the Berlin average. Especially cocktails are very expensive. It varies between 15-20 Euros. Relatively, food prices are a bit more reasonable. The food is edible but not worth the price for something to drink.

Nice view of Berlin and friendly, unfortunately somewhat overwhelmed and slow service. The drinks (regional beers from Lemke, interesting white wines) are also definitely worth mentioning. But. Unfortunately we didn't like the food. Mini portions, inspired ideas, but completely bland and disappointingly implemented. We had the map straight through - it didn't get better, just later and later. If you like waiting and don't know what to do with your time, this is the place for you. It's a shame, the location remains far below its potential. And that starts with the interior. Reminded me of the Palace of the Republic indeed.

The atmosphere is undoubtedly nice and the service is quite prompt and very nice. BUT: unfortunately it's 6€! expensive cup of afternoon tea served in a civilized manner similar to that in the train station bistro. It starts with the fact that of the 5 "teas" on the menu, only one is black tea, one is green tea and the rest are herbs, fruits...so they aren't actually teas. Inexpensive broken tea was served, already hung in the cup. No word on how long it's been hanging there. Unfortunately, they didn't ask if you wanted milk with your tea. No storage bowl for the tea either. No napkin with the cake. So these are all things that could be done better with little effort if you were interested in sensible gastronomy. So the impression remains that thanks to the good location, money is just being taken out of tourists' pockets.

2 cappuccini and 2 pieces of cake for 24€. Hopelessly overpriced. Coffee was good, cake inedible. Vegan carrot cake with buttercream that made me sick. The other cake also had buttercream. It was said that our own chef bakes the cake. But it has to come from the old GDR days.

I wish I could rate the service lower than 1 star :( I had a large group of people (20 guests) that we had prearranged with large party booking, with 3 weeks of notice. The restaurant called to confirm 3 times, ahead of our reservation time, to confirm how people would be coming as well as dietary restrictions amongst the group. We arrived and the restaurant was not busy but were seated for over 20 minutes without anyone coming to assist our group. 1/4 of the group was able to place their drink orders, then the waitress went to help service another large private party. Over half of the group didn’t even get a drink order taken for over 45 minutes. When we finally placed our drink order, it took 25 minutes to receive. Then we ordered appetizers and they didn’t bring out plates (I didn’t bother asking because I knew it would increase waiting time on the rest of the drinks). When the waitress brought some of the drinks out, she had a very negative attitude and said something under her breath. She almost seemed frustrated with us even though the restaurant was more than aware we had a large group? There was a larger group of staff hovering around the end of the bar chatting while we were all sitting there, so it was clear they were not short-staffed. Non of the dietary restrictions were taken into consideration and we had to privately talk to the kitchen staff to confirm no one would have allergic reactions. Overall, it took us over an hour and 30mins to get any food on our table. I have never been so furious with an experience. I DO NOT recommend this restaurant. The service is absolutely awful.

This is by no means a gourmet restaurant. Food is rather mediocre, taste is so-so, a lot of jingling words but nothing behind it. Price definitely not justified. Service messed up, hectic, inattentive. You get cloth napkins or not, you get a light on the table or not, you get the reserved table or not. The bright chaos. Service catches a smoke in the middle. But €€€€ ?????For what???? You can have a nice drink there, you don't need a reservation, don't expect anything more!

Came here to celebrate my birthday after my partner had it recommend, I’m not one to judge a venues service, food or atmosphere after working in the hospitality sector, however this so disappointing. My partner booked for my birthday (not to my knowledge), when we arrived we didn’t even have a table, we were shown to a table by the window and told that a table outside would be available soon. After 20 minutes our drink order was taken which is completely fine, although we did ask the waiter to order once seated. After an hour we still hadn’t been seated for food and had to find our own table outside, for my partner to then order at the bar (yes it was busy, but not busy enough to justify this lack of service), the waiter commented saying I hope you’re not stealing my money as a joke! Still we hadn’t had our food order taken 2 hours in to sitting. We left shortly after and got food elsewhere. As previously mentioned I’ve worked in hospitality in my youth (for 7 years and at a well established company) never in my life have I experienced this or have given this service to anyone, let alone for someone birthday surprise. Take what you will from this, the sunset is beautiful, the drinks are good, you pay for the venue at the end of the day- the venue which is beautiful and should commend a better service to paying customer (especially who have booked) it’s a good job we weren’t getting engaged !!!

Came here for a birthday meal. Due to difficulties getting a table (after reserving in advance) and difficulties getting a drink we left without food. I went to the bar to get a drink due to not getting served at my table, and was told they do not serve from the bar but they served me nonetheless. Despite this, the service was too poor to get a drink otherwise. Upon paying for the bill, I later found I was overcharged for my drink and there were issues with payment due to having drinks from two separate servers (which is ridiculous). I would recommend this place for a drink to see the sunset only. Food service was the worst I have ever experienced. Unfortunately this let me partner know on her birthday.

Far too few staff in service, the smallest ones have 30 minutes Latte Macchiato in the world. Only the roof terrace has an entrance fee of 5 €, you can get to the baret/coffee for free, but you have to wait forever on the weekend... More staff at the WOE please 🙏

This is a great place to sit and look out over the city. If you come in normal tourist clothes with 2 small children like we did, they may seat you and then ignore you like they did with us. We left after 20 minutes of no one coming to take our order so I can't speak to the quality of the food. We did get to visit the rooftop terrace for free though. Drinks start at 5€, 10€ for a homemade soft drink.

Greatest view of Berlin City, always bring my guests here. While at it please make yourself a favor and order the Fig French Toast: with butterscotch and basil-olive oil sorbet. One of the best in town!

Food is garbage, service is worse, music abominable. Charging fine dining prices for gas station food is crazy. Both the Maitre D’s were useless, frantically running around but not actually tending to any guest. After giving our seat away by accident and ignoring our new table for another half an hour, when asked if we could possibly be seated outside, we were told to just “go look for a seat and if you find one you can have it.” Which would be okay if it wasn’t a pseudo fine dining spot. And that was 2 hours in with no food at sight. View is nice though!!

I waited 1 hour for an overpriced piece of focaccia that happened to be both stale and oily. Service was awful. Kenny G and Bob Marley music did not correspond with the beautiful view at all.

I went to the party on Fridays, the party is amazing but don't trust the digital queue, wait in the physical queue. They made me wait for hours.

Disaster. No service, no service. No waiter feels responsible. Individual waiters sit at tables drinking beer and smoking. Nobody cares about the guest. I'm shocked. We only took drinks. We didn't order any more food and left. Oh god, such a great shop with a great view with a great terrace, but there is no service!!!! the three waiters who run past the table and don't feel responsible and only speak English and are not willing to serve anyone!!! Have fun…

It depends on what you expect. We also expected a high-quality experience based on the presentation and prices. First the good: the view is very nice. Unfortunately, we waited a long time in vain for service and eventually sat down inside, also because of the very uncomfortable chairs outside. The service person then came and was also very nice. The ambience inside and the furnishings are rather simple. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment for us - the dry chicken and the tough fish didn't convince us. The ketchup sachets for the fries, which were more reminiscent of a snack bar than a higher-priced restaurant, were also strange. But the wine was very good. Conclusion: If you want to eat well, you will find better alternatives at these prices. If you appreciate a beautiful view, this is the place for you.
