Zum Höllbräukeller in Eichstätt

On this year's bike tour along the Altmühl Valley Cycle Path, it was clear to us from the start: a stop at "Zum Höllbräukeller" was a must. Two years ago, we visited the restaurant for the first time – and even then, we were completely enthralled. The memories of the creative cuisine, the warm service, and the special atmosphere have stayed with us ever since. This year, we wanted to experience exactly that again – and our hopes were beautifully confirmed. The dishes are a true feast for the palate: imaginatively composed, with fresh ingredients and great attention to detail. You can tell that the food here isn't just cooked, but celebrated with passion. Every plate tells its own little story – and we enjoyed reading it. The service was just as warm and attentive as the first time. It almost feels like visiting good friends who also happen to be excellent cooks. For us, the Höllbräukeller has long been more than just a restaurant – it has become an integral part of our tour. A place where you feel comfortable, enjoy yourself, and enjoy spending time. We're already looking forward to our next visit!

The ambience was so simple that we didn't even stay for dinner

Very friendly service, delicious schnitzel, and a lovely atmosphere. Even though we were a large group, we got our meals at the same time. And the sloe gin is worth a try. I'd be happy to come back.

We were a little disappointed. The atmosphere and service were very friendly and attentive. We were only able to get a seat in the beer garden, even though everything inside was free. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. I wouldn't go there again, but that's a matter of taste.

The entrance from the street could easily be overlooked, which is a shame, because as soon as you descend the stairs into the brewery cellar, an unexpectedly magnificent dining room opens up, first the drinks counter and beyond it the vaulted ceiling of the extremely cozy dining room. We spent a wonderful evening here with remarkably friendly service and top-notch food.

Absolutely deserved 5* for service, friendliness, taste, cleanliness, and ambiance. We arrived here spontaneously and were warmly welcomed. Since my husband and I are trying to eat more vegan dishes and there was nothing on the menu, the chef came over and served us a vegan curry risotto and a vegetable soup. It was exceptionally delicious. The children were also very happy with their meal. I would go to the cooking school here, and the chef gave me a few tips. We would gladly come back.

We had a lovely family celebration there. There was live music (it was a special day because of the town festival), good food, and delicious drinks. The service was polite, although it took a while at times. But it was a busy day, and the food made up for it.

We were there as a family of 15. We had reservations and pre-ordered most of the food, which should have made things easier. Unfortunately, we still had some cancellations, and some people arrived much too late, which naturally led to unplanned changes and stress, especially since there was also a large party there and the restaurant was therefore busy. Nevertheless, the team rocked the situation. The food was delicious, the portions were plentiful, and the staff, despite the heat (30°C+) and full tables, were very prompt, up to the task, and always friendly and helpful. So, if you're hungry, enjoy delicious, high-quality food, and appreciate service, I think you're in the right place. You can sit outside or make yourself comfortable inside in the "cellar." It's been proven time and time again! The most inconspicuous shops are the best! The staff was super friendly, the food was incredibly delicious! And how does a manager show appreciation for their customers? That's right, by taking the time to chat with them. I highly recommend the burger. I'd be happy to go back. 🤗

A culinary paradise! My husband and I visited the Zum Höllbräukeller restaurant for lunch today, and I have to say, it was an absolute highlight! The restaurant is worth a visit not only for its excellent cuisine, but also for its very friendly owner and staff. The dishes were all perfectly prepared and tasted simply heavenly. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was modern and inviting. I highly recommend "Zum Höllbräukeller." Wir haben spontan am selben Tag noch einen Tisch bekommen, das hat uns sehr gefreut. Leider war der Tisch etwas ungünstig gelegen, direkt vor der Küche - es war dort ziemlich laut direkt im Gang. Dennoch haben wir unseren Aufenthalt genossen und fanden es auch toll, wie uns der Küchenchef gegrüßt und angesprochen hat. Der Kaiserschmarrn war für uns das Highlight des Abends. ♥ Wir kommen gerne wieder. :-)

Bei einem WE-Kurztrip als Paar vorbeigeschaut. Toller Empfang, auch ohne Reservierung einen kleinen Tisch bekommen. Service schnell. Nicht zu viele Gerichte auf der Karte. Im Spargel-Menü meiner Frau war ein 0,25l Wasser enthalten (hat mich verwundert). Tolle regionale Produkte mit Herkunftsbezeichnung verwendet. Mein Schnitzel mit Pommes war genauso lecker wie das vegetarische Gericht. Perfekter Espresso zum Dessert aus dem Siebträger.

Delicious food and almost unbelievable service. We've never had this before: food suggestions outside the menu from the boss when we reserved a table the day before. And the good man is just as nice in person as he sounds on the phone. Absolutely recommended!

In the Höllbräukeller you can sit back and relax in the rustic ambience and indulge in culinary delights. From the starter to the main courses to the dessert, we tried our way through the menu and were not disappointed. The products are regional, prepared with love and finesse and incredibly tasty - the boss himself is available to answer questions. Especially more special delicacies such as lamb cheeks, lamb tongue, beef diaphragm and much more. Here you get fresh from the region and super tasty on your plate. The vegetarian dishes can also be recommended. Burger buns, side dishes such as the famous potato donuts, wild garlic mayo and even ice cream are all homemade here. Therefore the price/performance is absolutely okay and justified. (Our dog also felt very comfortable). I can only recommend everyone to feast their way through the menu and perhaps try a dish outside of their comfort zone - it's worth it!

An absolutely great cook and host, have never had a bad experience and eat at the regulars' table at the Höllbräukeller every week.

We had a great evening with a very attentive host who was happy to accommodate our (special) requests. From the small table opposite the kitchen, we experienced in real time how our order was being prepared... as a guest you are right in the middle of it instead of outside: that's what I call experiential gastronomy! And I can only rave about the food, whether it's the flank steak cooked to perfection or the traditional cuisine like the Saure Lüngerl with fried napkin dumplings - where can you get something like that😋... and finally the parfait with some unusual flavors: it's good to dream! If you're looking for a slightly different, special gastronomy in Eichstätt, you can't miss the Höllbräukeller 👍

At the end of a trip we looked for a restaurant in Eichstädt. Here we became aware of the Höllbräukeller, which is somewhat hidden on the edge of the city center. The fully glazed entrance area provides a view of the counter and two tables. The actual guest room only becomes visible in one passage. Here guests can expect a beautiful vault and a view of the open-plan kitchen. The service handed out the menu very friendly and quickly and took the orders just as quickly. The restaurant's small and creative menu appears clear and, in addition to salads, offers a well-stocked selection of fish and meat dishes. With a clear view of the kitchen, you could be sure that the chef was preparing everything fresh and without the use of convenience products. At the latest when they taste it, the guest will be able to taste and appreciate this way of working. Even everyday dishes, such as a “Vienna-style” schnitzel, taste excellent and are of very good quality. There are also unusual and exciting creations in the desserts. The chef serves here himself, as long as the workload allows it. But he will certainly ask at every table whether everything was prepared as desired. Overall, we spent a very pleasant evening here, for which I would like to thank you again. There is a good relationship between price and performance, especially taking into account the regional origin of the ingredients used. The Höllbräukeller is definitely worth a visit. Due to limited space, I recommend making a reservation in advance, even for small groups.

We stopped here after a walk. From the outside you think it's just this one room because you can see through a glass door. When you are downstairs and walk around the corner you can see the beautiful vault. I find the open kitchen very unusual, where you can see how the food is prepared. The chef personally serves the food to the table when there is not much going on. The food tastes excellent and I think he nailed the taste of the cheese spaetzle perfectly. The dessert, the ice cream, is homemade and has a special touch. Like tonka bean or pumpkin seed oil. The menu is also very small and always varies with new dishes. I can only recommend the restaurant. Whenever we're in the area again, we'd love to stop by.

We ate at Höllbräukeller and absolutely loved it! We were particularly impressed by the house's Onglet Steak recommendation - perfectly prepared, incredibly tender and full of flavor. The side dishes, the vegetables and the potatoes, were also excellent and rounded off the dish perfectly. The dessert was also very tasty and fruity. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Added to this is the beautiful ambience, which creates a great atmosphere. An all-round lovely experience – we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back! Absolutely recommended!

Today I was able to enjoy a small but delicious birthday meal with my loved ones. All the food was fresh and extremely attractively prepared, and the small reception beforehand was lovingly prepared and very appetizing 😋😋. The boss is a very warm person who “loves” what he does and cares a lot about his guests 👌. Chapeau, colleague, and thank you very much for this delicious culinary birthday 😉. I would be happy to come again or visit me 😉😅....

We went to Höllbräukeller for dinner on Valentine's Day and were simply thrilled! We asked in advance whether there was a suitable alternative for me (pregnant) and the boss personally discussed it with us and also took preferences into account. So I always got a little variation on the “unsuitable” dishes. The courses were well timed and the portion sizes were also very good. The menu was varied and we could have enjoyed every dish 😉 Overall, high quality food, superbly prepared and attentive service, we were completely happy. Gladly again!

What the hell?! How good is this store please?! We had no children today and ate at the Hölbräukeller for the second time. We were able to easily make a reservation via WhatsApp on Saturday lunchtime and even received praise from the boss. Simply copy the number into your contacts and write a short message on WhatsApp and bang, an answer that it's fine. As an aperitif and to drink there was homemade lemonade, a Höllbräu spritz (yummy) and a house pint (Rivaner). For dinner we went from “hell” to seventh heaven! We had the salad carousel with fried chicken and the brook trout (I could have bathed in the lobster sauce and the portion was really big!). On the boss's recommendation, we ordered a spruce needle parfait and the house classic, a pumpkin seed oil parfait, as dessert. Delicious delicious and delicious! The boss is just super warm, obviously loves what he does and conjures up a heavenly poem from simple, regional products. The ambience in the vaulted cellar is quite unique in the region. Uncomfortable, warm and inviting. We'd love to come back!

As a foreigner, I was truly impressed by the chef's modern take on regional cuisine. They managed to elevate traditional dishes with innovative twists while preserving the authentic flavors. The result was a dining experience that surpassed my expectations. I enjoyed my food and I was pleasantly surprised by the vegetarian main course from my friend too. It was a delightful surprise.

Ce jeune chef maîtrise à merveille l’art de rendre la viande tendre et juteuse. Et puis, il y a sa passion dans la défense du terroir, dans le choix de ses fournisseurs. Et le temps qu’il peut passer à vous expliquer comment il mitonne ses spécialités. On pourrait passer des heures à tout goûter si le ventre n’était déjà plein. Vivement que les enquêteurs du Michelin lui rendent visite et lui décerne le Bib qu’il mérite.

We were absolutely thrilled by the great cuisine and the attentive service. On the first evening we had a great conversation with the boss. Two completely perfect evenings. We have been regulars at this restaurant for years. The sophisticated dishes that the extremely motivated chef conjures up give us a culinary delight every time. The ingredients are sourced as locally as possible and the suppliers are featured on the menu. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive. If time permits, the chef will personally check whether everything is right. Last Saturday I celebrated my birthday there - it was an unforgettable evening and all my guests were amazed by the cooking skills and the delicious aperitifs! Keep it up, you are an asset to Eichstätt and in my opinion the best restaurant here! 😘

The atmosphere is easeful and relaxed. One is surrounded by cozy wood and a refreshing modern take on Bavarian “Gemütlichkeit”. Höllbräukeller’s service staff is attentive. The cook is a friendly, down-to-earth man, who visits every table to greet the guests and shows a lot of love for his craft. This translates into his food: it is flat out stunning. I have roamed the world, eaten diverse exquisite cuisine and indulged in a fair amount of Michelin star food. This kitchen however in the unlikely spot of a small town in the midst of Bavaria blew my mind. Its spirited cook might not have a star but most certainly deserves one in my humble opinion. My spouse ate Käsespätzle, which were top notch. The cheese used was the right balance between piquant and creamy, the spätzle were clearly house-made (geschabt). They beat the ones I had in an organic food based Hüttn on a hike up the Ochsenkopf mountain – which is said something bc those people know(!) how to make a good “Kasspatzn”. The salad on the side was made with love and a refreshing addition to this heavier main course. I had chicken with a godly pumpkin and potato mash – very recommendable and a delicious sour cream. For desert we had the best Kaiserschnarrn I have ever tasted. The cook was attentive enough to ask beforehand for any allergies and made sure to not add walnuts as I am a nut allergic. The Kaiserscharrn was crispy, full-bodied – not too airy and had the right amount of sweetness. One could taste that all the condiments were self made. They consisted of Vanilla ice cream with Tonka bean, finely seasoned apple and quince puree. I will stop off at “Höllbräukeller” merely for this amazing Kaiserschmarrn. Be sure to check out the other main courses as well. I recommend the house-made mint lemonade.

Zum Höllbräukeller is a recommended gourmet address in Eichstätt. The menu was “small but nice” and the host couple were very warm and attentive. The dishes were of very good quality and the portions were also very generous. You could watch the creative team practicing their cooking skills. It was a culinary stay and we would be happy to come back. ;)

Very nice and stylishly furnished restaurant, extremely friendly service staff. Here the boss cooks himself. Apart from the drinks, everything is produced here himself, which is unfortunately very rare these days. Very short waiting time after ordering. On the recommendation of a friend, we (3 people) wanted the Höllbräu burger with beef steak (was not on the menu). After asking the kitchen we were told that this wasn't a problem, even though the restaurant was full. This is how I imagine customer service. We were all thrilled with the burger, even the burger bun is made in-house. Hats off to this chef. Thank you very much for this taste experience Mr. Jobst, we would love to come back.

So I'm really surprised at the negative reviews of the restaurant. My sister-in-law and I were in Eichstätt last weekend for the church fair and had our “farewell dinner” by chance in the Hölbräukeller. What can I say, the food was soooo delicious, regional, seasonal, fresh as it should be and all at a reasonable price. Aperitif, soft drink, two main courses, digestif! You can also read on the menu which suppliers the meat comes from. Even though we hadn't made a reservation, we were assigned a nice place and were looked after in an extremely friendly and empathetic manner. For us it was a completely successful visit to the restaurant and we would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU and keep it up!

Great atmosphere, very nice and fast service. The place is atmospheric, noisy and very pleasant. The food is good... but it's German cuisine, known for being probably the worst cuisine in the world. If you like it, you will be delighted, if not, drink a beer and go for a kebab next door.

All respect to the talented and friendly chef! The food (schnitzel, lamb ravioli and crème brûlée) tastes fantastic! :)

Randomly chosen on Sunday evening: got a table even without a reservation, ate extremely well and chatted with the chef as if we had known each other for years. At the end we tried two of our own liqueurs and took a bottle of each with us. Absolute recommendation!

We became aware of the "Zum Höllbräukeller" thanks to the very good reviews after a concert. What and how it was served far exceeded anything. We ordered and received an excellent sesame-crusted brook trout fillet. The warm lobster sauce was a real highlight. The vegetables and pasta were on point and tasted excellent with lots of spices, such as fresh rosemary. This means that every vegetarian, for example, will experience a truly special taste experience here. The restaurant room was cozy, warm, bright and lovingly decorated. The visit to the restaurant was worth every cent! We rave and can recommend it to absolutely everyone. Thanks to the chef for this tasteful sophistication in preparing food!

We were really only there by chance because all the restaurants were closed and what can I say... How lucky for us, otherwise we would never have been able to try this delicious food. We had a schnitzel and a large salad with chicken pieces. Every bite was a pleasure and the service was super nice. This restaurant will definitely be saved as a favorite restaurant.
