Updated with major improvements since last visit: Steaks are really good here. Be prepared to share at your table because most cuts are too big to eat alone and it is encouraged to share. Service for our group of 10 was speedy and we had to wait a long time to even order wine. Atmosphere is more on the cosy side than fancy, which is nice for a casual evening.

It was beautiful. Meat was very expensive, we had to eat pasta and pork, the truffle mushroom pasta was not bad, we did not love it, the pork was delicious, we paid the bill to the restaurant, I hope we will pay the other bill as well.. dry aged meats were in the range of 100 euros to 160 euros for 600-800 grams. It was too much for me, but if it's not for you, you can eat it, they looked beautiful.

The food tastes really good, but the service today was very disappointing. This is our second visit to this restaurant and this time the service was unfortunately completely lacking. First of all, we had to wait half an hour for our main course after the starter. Despite speaking to us several times, our waiter didn't come to our table. It even got to the point where we had to call another waiter to pay and forgo dessert and coffee. Our original waiter stopped coming to see us. We left the restaurant without being said goodbye. It's really a shame to experience such poor service in such a price range. It should also be noted that a table that arrived after us was served much faster and more politely.

We were here recently and absolutely loved it. The service was excellent: attentive, friendly and professional. We tried the starters and also the (vegetarian) main courses. For a steakhouse, it offers a surprisingly wide selection of vegetarian dishes that are creative, fresh and really tasty. The spareribs were also first class. An all-round great experience that we will definitely repeat. Highly recommended!

I had a fantastic experience here! From the warm welcome to the last bite, everything was perfect. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor. The side dishes were fresh and harmonious. The service was also first class. The staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting and makes eating a special experience. I think the price/performance ratio is acceptable for Munich, the staff tried very hard, the food was also good... the cooking level was top... but it was nowhere near the 250 grams as ordered... it didn't even come close... as a catering company, I know what 250 g is as a steak... sorry There was a problem, otherwise it was ok...

Positive: The atmosphere is nice! The service was super unprofessional, I suspect the waiter was also someone from the management because he behaved like a boss, unfortunately in a negative sense. Loveless presentation of a €60 steak. Not a single side dish, just a grilled piece of meat on a large white plate. I don't have to go to a restaurant for this... I throw a piece of meat on the grill myself and then on my plate. The waiting time for the food was also too long, we like to eat out often, but sorry, never here again!

Food great, service a flop! I recently went to the Zum Goldenen Kalb restaurant and had mixed feelings: the food was really excellent, well-crafted and tasted of a high standard. There's nothing to complain about there. Unfortunately, the rest of the visit was anything but pleasant. The service was unfriendly, chaotic and sometimes seemed disinterested. One would have expected a minimum of professionalism from the boss himself - instead there was an atmosphere that was simply unpleasant. I wouldn't hesitate to come back for the food, but the service? An absolute no-go. It's a shame that such a kitchen is overshadowed by such lousy service. Overall, unfortunately only 2 out of 5 stars.

We had a very nice dinner, and everything was delicious. However, at the end of the night, as the waitress quickly cleared the plates from our table, all of the olive oil spilled onto my iPhone 16. At first, she didn’t notice her mistake, but when we pointed it out, she kindly apologized. We spent about 10 minutes trying to clean the phone’s speaker. Unfortunately, this incident left a bittersweet note on what was otherwise a lovely evening. Please grab the oil olive plates very gently next time.”

We didn't even get to ordering our food. Despite a reservation, the table had been moved so close to the counter that those sitting at the counter were essentially sitting with their buttocks on the table with us. We found this to be a very unpleasant positioning. Questions from the staff were met with a shrug of the shoulders. Then after the drink it was over, but the San Pellegrino was perfect. From our point of view, the way we deal with customers can clearly be improved. UPDATE: The Golden Calf has now had the review deleted after almost 7 years due to “defamation”. I'm sorry, dear Goldene Kalb team, that you don't like my review. I didn't like the way you treated us either and that's why I lodged an objection and re-entered the review just to be on the safe side. Google should show everything and not just what you would like to see... And don't forget, feedback is always a gift!! UPDATE 2 to the Golden Calf GF's brilliant answer: If you had read my review comment in its entirety, then you would know WHY I RECENTLY re-posted the comment I wrote down 7 years ago. But you see, just as you read the comments and then respond to them, so does your customer service, which reinforces to me that my impression was exactly right. Why I haven't contacted you is because you wish I would talk to you. We enjoyed doing that back then, you can read the reaction in my review… Reading just educates… And we would be happy to take this into legal action if that was the “threat”.

Unfortunately we weren't very impressed on our last visit. The food was just okay, not commensurate with the price. The service was quite slow. It used to be a great steak restaurant, but unfortunately the quality has declined significantly in our opinion.

Rarely have I eaten such a good steak - best steak in town. It was just perfect 👌 everything was perfect! Great advice, great service, nice atmosphere. The side dishes of truffle fries and the leaf spinach are also simply a dream. I can only recommend the store 👍

True to the motto: I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables! Every person who feels connected to the flesh will find exactly what he/she wants in the golden calf without any ifs or buts. There is a charcoal grill. I was able to try things out and discover new things. Each bite was appropriately rounded off with a fine drop from the endless wine list, which was skilfully presented. My girlfriend also liked it, although she prefers eating grass to cow.

The food at “Zum Goldenen Kalb” was really very good, which is why I give it a relatively high rating despite everything. Unfortunately, the visit for my birthday was anything but relaxed. I wanted to spend a nice evening with my two sons and had made reservations for that, but the atmosphere in the restaurant was catastrophic. The noise level was not caused by loud music - this was normally playing in the background - but by the many conversations of the guests, which were extremely reverberant due to the lack of soundproofing measures and made the restaurant a real source of noise. Even ordering was a challenge as we literally had to shout at each other to understand each other. It was hardly possible to have a conversation at the table, which ruined the whole evening. From the main course onwards, the staff were hardly interested in us and concentrated entirely on a large group at the neighboring table. After 20-30 minutes of waiting without any eye contact, I finally asked for the bill myself because the desire for dessert or more drinks had long since disappeared. What was particularly disappointing was that despite having napkins in my ears, which I put in if necessary, an hour later I still had an unpleasant buzzing in my head, as if I had been in a club for hours. Normally I rarely write negative reviews and almost always leave tips, but not this time. When I paid the bill without a tip, the waitress asked irritably if I really didn't want to give anything. After I confirmed this in disappointment, all I got was a surprised look and no question as to whether something was wrong. I would have liked to explain to her why we were disappointed - although we would have had to go outside in the rain because we couldn't understand each other with the noise level in the restaurant. All in all, it's a real shame because the food here is excellent, but the lack of any soundproofing measures and the inattentive service completely ruined the evening. A visit to a restaurant should be a relaxing experience, but I probably won't come back here.

The food is of excellent quality. The meat is aged and prepared very well according to your choice. Crispy fries, harmonious spinach, crunchy salad. Unfortunately, the beer wasn't cold even upon request. The prices are in the very high segment.

let me start by saying i’ve never left a review for anything in my entire life. literally. the food was so awful and underwhelming. i will say, i had the best amaretto sour i’ve ever had here. but that doesn’t make up for the terrible cut of meat, and bland ass sides. no seasoning on anything. giving 2 stars purely for the amaretto

I just wanted to share my wonderful experience at Zum Goldenen Kalb during my recent visit, which was my second time there. The dining experience was perfect, with an ambiance that allowed for relaxation after a long working day. The staff were incredibly friendly, always smiling and attentive. The food was absolutely great, and the cleanliness of the restaurant was impressive. It's truly a quiet and nice place to unwind. I look forward to my next visit!

Service first class and authentic. Steak is always a question of philosophy. There are absolute premium cuts here at a premium price. I tried the “best” steak from the regular menu. It was definitely a pleasure. For the equivalent of just under EUR 200 per kilo, for me this is out of all proportion to the fact that you can get even grilled US Black Angus for a third of the price. I always notice one thing: if you're an ambitious griller yourself, you're not afraid to spend €400 + Hardly any steakhouse will make you grin with delight when you get your steak there. With your own experience, your demands increase. The restaurant can't do anything about that. But even a premium steak is no longer an absolute highlight. But what blew me away was the sweet potato puree. I've never had this better anywhere. Strangely, after I added some photos to my review, Google automatically blocked it. When it comes to meat quality, I've been spoiled by Brazil, Argentina and South Africa and can't keep up in any way in terms of price-performance ratio. What should be highlighted is the excellent service.

The food tasted excellent. I had the cheeseburger for around €30. The ratio of salad, fillet, etc. was perfect. The portion wasn't too big either. I think the price of €30 is justified. My friends had a steak. They were also very satisfied with it, even if around €130 is a bit much. I also thought the steak was very, very good. The waiters weren't pushy and they were very nice. We didn't have to wait too long for Klaus to get his food.

Service was phenomenal! Our waiter was fantastic and was very attention to detail. He took the time to explain every cut of meat and where it was from. The atmosphere was fun and very focused on being a beef restaurant. I thought the food was okay. Steaks didn't have much flavor, but this was due to the way it was grilled. I think the chef might have been short handed or was distracted. Still not bad and fun.

I've been to many steakhouses in Munich, but the steak here was worlds better! I haven't been able to eat such a soft and juicy cow for a really long time.

The best steak I've had so far. Thanks to the good advice from the great team, we were able to choose steaks directly from the maturing cabinet. The meat was perfect and tasted at such a high level that the price justifies it. Quality is still very important here. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice :)

The steaks are very nice. The sides are delicious, specially the mac and cheese. The truffle fries are to die for. If you need to uplift your spirit with a good stake, this is the place to go. Go for the T-bone, mac & cheese and truffle fries with a good glass of wine. Cocktails are really good as well.

On my recent visit to Munich, I was fortunate enough to discover a restaurant that serves possibly the best meat I have ever tasted. The quality of the meat was exceptional, making each bite a true culinary experience. Furthermore, the atmosphere and service in the restaurant were impeccable, perfectly complementing the dining experience. Although the restaurant is in a higher price range, the value of the experience fully makes up for it. It is definitely a place I would recommend for a special occasion or to treat yourself well deserved.

On the occasion of our wedding anniversary, I took my wife out to spend a cozy evening. As soon as we entered the restaurant, Michael greeted us very friendly and escorted us to our table. Here we were asked if we would like a bottle of water, which we welcomed as we also planned to drink wine. When the water was served we were asked if we would like an aperitif, we chose a cremant. When Michael handed us the menu, he pointed out that in a few minutes he would accompany us to the aging room, a steak lover's dream. This is where his concentrated expertise came to the fore as he told us the peculiarities of each type of cattle. The only thing missing was that he told us the names of the cattle. As a starter we ordered tuna tartare, which was cut into small cubes and seasoned perfectly, and a Caesar salad, which was also seasoned perfectly. The steaks, rib eye from the old cow and beef fillet from Australian Black Angus, were served on a board, carved and arranged on plates with great attention to detail. When it comes to the steaks, it should be mentioned that they caused a taste explosion in the mouth. To accompany the meal, we ordered a Conte Giangirolamo from Apulia, whose flavors went perfectly with the steak. The ambience of the restaurant is reminiscent of a typical American steakhouse, which also fits perfectly with the choice of food. If you want to spend a nice evening with high quality food, especially steaks, this is the right place for you. Many thanks again to Michael, who allowed us to enjoy a wonderful and unforgettable evening with his host qualities and concentrated competence. Michael gave us the complete feel-good factor. We will definitely come back and hope for table 42.

Rather bad experience. We were shown our table and then told: the wardrobe for our jackets is at the other end of the restaurant. Before being given a menu we were asked about aperitivo, after declining water was served, but we were not asked again about other drinks. We were not shown the meats, and had to look at it ourselves. Took the RibEye, but for 60€ without any sides, it was definitely not worth the price.

Waited 15 minutes for a “hello” and the menu. A hair in the lettuce, complained, the answer came: “sorry, we can don't explain this to us. Everyone in the kitchen has short hair.” Ordered baked potato, didn't come, but it was on the bill. Burger tastes like NOTHING. The waiter neither asked if it was tasty nor did he come up with the idea of ​​“compensating” with at least one espresso. A pity! Not what it used to be.

Had dinner here for the first time with my wife today. Ordered 2 x 200 gram stakes with side dishes, everything was very tasty. Priced in the upper segment, but they are welcome.

Much too expensive for what we got on our plates!! A green salad for €9.50 and a mini potato gratin for €6, a 75 cl bottle of water for €7.90 as soon as you sit at the table!! I'm not sure if this is a German custom!!

The steak was very good but I’ve also had better steak for less money IN LONDON!!! Not to mention the staff, who were very friendly, but a bit useless. I had to ask for a menu. Then separately ask for a wine menu. Then ask again if we could have some water. Not worth it, unfortunately. I feel bad for the waiters who were good. One customer came in and stormed off after not being given a menu after a while - I feel for him - I wish we’d done the same and gone elsewhere.

Table reservation at 8 p.m. It took 1 hour until we were allowed to go to the ripening room to choose our meat. There are pre-cut pieces you can choose from. You can't say I'd like 250 grams of this and that, just what's in it. So there is little choice in the evening at 9 p.m. 300 grams of meat (old cow) for 140€. Truffle fries for €20, which was enough for two people. The food and drinks tasted excellent. However, the water bottles on the table were warm. It was generally very warm in the restaurant. Another annoying thing was that we were charged for a whole bottle of wine which we tried and we didn't like it. Overall, very tasty if you can afford it and want to. I won't anymore.

Ein brutales per du schon in die ersten Sekunden, erschreckend! Das Essen mittelmäßig, bei weitem nicht so fantastisch wie in Werbung verkauft. Sehr laute Bedienung, wir hatten konstant das Eindruck, dass wir angeschrien werden. Creme brulee aber überdurchschnittlich lecker! Gesamt 6/10 mit großzügige Wille
