Zum goldenen Hammer in Kevelaer

I would call this restaurant an insider tip. From the outside, it looks more like a shop, were it not for the signage and the menu next to the door. When you step inside, it's almost like "coming home" to another time. We had the roast ham with red cabbage and croquettes; the food was delicious, and the portion couldn't have been any bigger, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to finish it. The lady of the house was very attentive and friendly. If we're ever in Kevelaer again, we'll definitely come back.

We went there for dinner and left thrilled. The food (Sauerbraten) was excellent and reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The ambiance takes some getting used to; the decor seems to date back to the 1960s, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's strange, though, that you don't know whether you're sitting in a religious items shop or a restaurant. The small restaurant would have more potential if they removed the religious items and perhaps set up outdoor seating in this beautiful location. The price, by the way, was unbeatable; you won't find such value for money anywhere in Kevelaer. It's best to call a day in advance to let us know you're coming.
