Zum Alten Rathaus in Lindau (Bodensee)

Perfect place for a warm sit down lunch in the winter. Staff was super friendly and efficient. Our waiter spoke at least four languages. Loved the beef broth with liver and my husband really enjoyed the smoked salmon with hash browns. They also offered “real” salads full of fresh veggies. House wine works well. Overall, just plain good and certainly affordable. Would give 4-1/2 stars if possible.

One can only say about the Lindau restaurant “Zum Alten Rathaus” in the pedestrian zone: Great! Special and particularly tasteful dishes (my favorite when I feel like meat: Argentinian rumpsteaķ with salad and side dishes - the fish dishes also taste great!), great friendly staff - and in the summer you can also sit outside, surrounded by the hustle and bustle Lindau visitors. The “Ninja plate”, cheese noodles and desserts delight the little ones. And the older ones can always confidently order a glass of really good wine after their desert to end a beautiful day in Lindau while sitting comfortably together in the evening sun with their loved ones or friends. Everything is perfect here, and because we like to eat outside in the sun, we are already looking forward to warmer days in Lindau and the Old Town Hall.

Affordable restaurant. The portions are large and the advantage was the Slovak service. :) We ate quickly and well. The dumplings were delicious, and the roast with apples was excellent and unconventional.

Il posticino è informale, semplice, sicuramente piacevole e jntimo, se i gestori fossero gentili. Siamo arrivati verso le 20.30, forse un po' tardi, ma eravamo appena arrivati in loco e, affamati ci siamo messi subito a cercare un ristorante. Al nostro arrivo i gestori sono stati subito scontrosi, a causa dell'orario (avrebbero potuto dirci che la cucina era chiusa e bon) , invece ci hanno fatto accomodare. Con stizza il cameriere ha gettato sul tavolo i menu. Il tedesco è la mia lingua, ma non quella dei miei amici, che non capivano le parolacce che dicevano in cucina . Gli ho detto che avremmo mangiato qualsiasi cosa avessero già pronto, ma non è servito. Intanto un'inserviente ci passava davanti in continuazione con stracci umidi e spazzolone ! Bene, abbiamo scelto un piatto semplice dal menu ma ricevuto tutt'altro e senza il contorno. Ho continuato a non commentare, quando ho chiesto se avessero una password libera per connettermi alla rete, dovevo solo controllare la posta, mi sono sentita dire, testuali parole...Non c'è password né rete, c'è solo l'ora di alzarsi, pagare e uscire! Abbiamo pagato uno sproposito per avere mangiato (perché, zitti, abbiamo mangiato lo stesso, eravamo affamati) male e per essere stati trattati ancor peggio I gestori non erano tedeschi, voglio precisarlo, gli autoctoni sono gentili e premurosi Purtroppo non mi è venuto in mente di fotografare ciò che avevo nel piatto...fa niente, acqua passata Comunque, ristorante sconsigliato, non si meritano clienti paganti!

I wish I'd had the Internet signal to check the reviews of this place before deciding to have dinner here. It wasn't the staff I found offputting [we were lucky I guess], it's the food. It really is a tourist trap. The prices, you think, would equal tasty food but sadly it was just ingredients on a plate. Super expensive and the offering was a huge letdown. We decided to cut our losses and leave after only having one drink with our meal [which was hugely overpriced]. Sadly the rain drove us in out of desperation. Do your research of other places in town before deciding to visit.

We chose this restaurant because it was busy, which is often a sign of good food, and the comfortable armchairs outside looked very inviting. The service was good and quick, but the food was worse than canteen food. We had the whitefish fillet "Muellerin style" and the zander fillet from the grill. In my opinion, the fish wasn't really fresh, I left out the breading because it was inedible. The potatoes that came with it were also of poor quality, I suspect from a jar... To fill myself up, I ordered French fries, which I didn't have to pay for as a courtesy. The leaf salad served with the meal was also presented as carelessly as the fish, the leaves were huge, and I have never had to cut the lettuce into bite-sized pieces myself... I could have guessed what the quality of the kitchen was like, the imitation leather cover of the menu was dirty, I hadn't seen a rag for a long time... It is said that the industry is fighting for survival, but please not by offering its guests poor quality at overpriced prices!

Erwartung von regionaler Küche war nicht gegeben. Sitzplatz genau ggü. Küche. Sie waren bemüht ihr Bestes zu geben, putzten ständig mit EINEM roten Lappen, Schneidebrett, Messer, Tellerränder und Arbeitflächen. Ganze Salatblätter wurden gewaltsam in Form gebracht und mit Fertigdressing begossen. Fleisch wurde schwimmend in Fett auf der Griddelplatte fritiert. Ringergulsch war gut die Tütenspätzle leider ungewürzt. Zander war gut, Pfifferlinge lederig und ungewürzt. Das Jogginghosen jetzt zur Arbeitskleidung gehören war mir neu. Chef setze Bierflasche vor Gästen an. Personal redete unaufhörlich laut auf italienisch, wenn sie nicht auf dem Handy daddelten. Wieder eine Erfahrung gemacht- besser 10 Meter weiter gehen...

Last week we were in Lindau with my parents for a few days. We were so excited on Monday that we came again on Tuesday. We were lucky to get seats without a reservation, as a table just became available. Friendly and attentive staff, prices absolutely reasonable for the island and excellent food. I've had the best Kässpatzen ever here. Maybe you could check the toilets again and refill used paper and towels. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for the delicious food!

Tafelspitz like home-cooked!!! Super tender! To all complainers: KREN is FRESHly grated horseradish and MUST tickle your nose. If you want ready-made sauce because you're used to junk, it's best to go to the supermarket and buy something like that... Great, super nice service. The most comfortable seats ever!! Also super wonderful location 😉

A very good restaurant in Lindau

We were there on August 14, 2024 and wanted to have a drink, but were asked to leave by the waiter on the grounds that you can only order drinks in the restaurant in conjunction with food. We actually wanted to come to dinner that same evening, but of course we didn't do that after the incident.

Super tasty food, good value for money. Cozy atmosphere. The waiter even gave us 2 cigarettes because there was currently no vending machine nearby... super nice service 👍. The sweet and sour liver slices were very tasty!!!

When we asked for water for our dog with its own bowl, we were told that no dogs were served here, that you could get some in the toilet....my husband was also verbally attacked by a waiter for no reason as to why he was looking like that.. ..never come back

A great little restaurant in the heart of the island of Lindau. We dined here with friends and the 4 children - our dog was also welcome. We recommend!!!

Four of us went there spontaneously with our dog and got a nice place outside. Of course, there is a lot going on during the holiday season and the staff are under a lot of demands. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant stay. The food was very tasty and we were able to choose the right one for us from an extensive selection. Everything was fresh, the schnitzel and beef were definitely not frozen goods and the taste was well balanced and not the standard for everyone. We would definitely eat there again!

The worst schnitzel I have ever eaten

When we are in Lindau, we always come here to eat! The quality and taste has been consistently great for years! The staff is very attentive and the outdoor seating options are incredibly comfortable! We always enjoy coming here!

The food was good. Service downright rude. A wine (gruner veltlin) with the meal was good. I ordered a second wine but it was a different wine and it was also darker in color. This was not accepted by our waiter and he showed it as if I was a complainer. However, the bill showed a completely different wine, and yet he kept claiming it was the same wine. Really a shame!

Dish: Penne with asparagus. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. All in all great, city center location in the pedestrian zone. What more could you want?

The expectations were probably too high. Tomato-mozzarella was served with mixed bread, presented quite carelessly. We just sat down on the chairs outside. The pillows were dirty, the "tablecloth" was old and unsightly. We kept our girls on because it was drafty and cold. Unfortunately we had already ordered our food outside, so leaving was no longer an option... Very quickly we had the food on the table. In my opinion, the “homemade” spaetzle was swimming in cheese sauce right out of the bag. Pork fillet fried pink on top was okay. Cordon bleu with fries was ok. There was no ambience. Except for the employee who assigned the table, everyone was friendly.

The perfect place for authentic German cuisine. Wonderfully tasty, cosy atmosphere and friendly service. The schnitzel is delicious and such generous portions.

We had dinner in the old town hall in Lindau on May 15, 2024 without a reservation. You can put it briefly. The food was good but nothing special. It was loud and restless in the restaurant. There were enough waiters there. (maybe too much) there was no feeling of well-being. A waiter brought our salads to guests who arrived much later. When we asked where our salads were, they checked to see if we had ordered any, then one was brought, but we each wanted one as a starter. All in all, things didn't go well. Just eating something quickly because you're hungry is ok, but nothing more. What we mean by going out to eat looks different. It's probably a tourist restaurant. They only come once and then never again.

Like everywhere in the restaurants in Lindau, 2 to 5 € too expensive per dish. Quickly crafted food and large portions. Taste ok. Ingredients often frozen and ready-made. Food comes very, very quickly. Waiters are friendly and pragmatic. The aim here is to allocate places as often as possible.

We sat outside, right in the heart of the old town on Maximilianstrasse. The service is extremely friendly and professional. The food tasted very good and the portions were large enough. Waiting for the food only a few minutes. The prices are more than reasonable for the location of the restaurant and the quality of the food. There is even a daily menu with special prices: We had the meatloaf with spaetzle for around €13.50, so you can't complain about that. Clear recommendation!!

It’s a nice place in the middle of the island. The coffee is Segafredo, so it’s good. If the Schwabentöpfle sounds good for you, then go for it. It’s very good. The Käsespetzle is on the top side with the sauce!

Yesterday we were there for dinner with 4 people. Large selection of food. We had 4 different dishes for dinner. Everything was great, super tasty and rich. The staff very attentive and nice. Unfortunately, the selection of different beers could not be found on the menu. I can definitely recommend the restaurant.
