Zum Alten Rathaus in Lindau (Bodensee)

I would like to write a review but since we didn't even get a menu after 15 minutes even though we were welcomed and asked to sit at the table and then saw us waiting several times, we left.

The waiter was not at all friendly, the result was that we didn't speak their language, they sent us directly to their competitor, something never seen before!!!

Great service, friendly and helpful staff, food arrived quickly, was plentiful and very tasty!

Ate schnitzel hunter's style. I won't be going back. The schnitzel was cooked way too long and was tough. The sauce was tasteless. The spaetzle was lumpy and undercooked. And last but not least, I forgot the cappuccino. I don't think we'll go there again.

Located in the middle of the island, we were inspired by the positive reviews. We had tomato soup and beef soup with liver dumplings; we also had the Jäger-style schnitzel and Swabian pots. Everything was delicious, and the portions were absolutely reasonable for the prices. Unfortunately, the sauce on the Jäger-style schnitzel was cold in some places, and the "homemade" spaetzle didn't exactly look homemade (as can be seen in a few other reviews).

Went there spontaneously for lunch. Friendly service and the food was very good.

We had a lovely meal on the terrace and they had a great menu with many tasty things. Only the orange juice tastes a bit like it comes from a carton. The apple juice is great, though, and the salads are a wonderful healthy yet filling option.

Fast service, delicious food, the staff speaks English. Unfortunately, we got a free table right next to the kitchen, since we had rainy weather, so it was quite noisy: plates and glasses clinked, guests came and went next to us, but other than that, it was a pleasant place.

The service was very friendly. The food (salad and cheese spaetzle) was served promptly. It tasted okay, but the portions were rather small. Hygiene was acceptable, but it didn't feel 100% clean. In our opinion, the value for money is poor – the dishes are too expensive. Furthermore, the Aperol was unfortunately significantly watered down. There are other restaurants in Lindau that are more recommendable.

We ate at your place yesterday. My meal, "Sweet and Sour Liver Strips," was a poem. We were both absolutely thrilled. The food was even more amazing, accompanied by a street musician playing an accordion. Simply fantastic. Thank you so much.

We had a light lunch in this restaurant (1 dish per person plus drinks). On a weekday, without any reservation, we were immediately offered a table for 3 people. All dishes are very high quality and tasty, prices are reasonable. The service is also at a high level, although... the waiters should have been more discreetly checking whether we had finished the previous dish ))

Uncomfortable seat right in front of the kitchen, with the smell of food and kitchen noises. Unfriendly service who didn't think a 50-cent tip was enough. The food was left on the table with the comment, "You can give it to your grandson." Tipping isn't something you take for granted, and every cent is worth it. Outrageous.

First of all, the ambiance in this historic building is quite nice. The service is also good – but so is the food! We had the Swabian pot with pork fillet and cheese spaetzle. The meat was okay, but the spaetzle were overcooked. Simply unloving – a shame considering the beautiful location.

We went out to eat today. Even though it was busy, the servers were really on the ball and even very friendly. The food was amazing. We had beef goulash, and it was truly delicious. They even gave us a shot of schnapps on the house. You can't ask for more, keep it up...

Yes, food tasted good and was served quickly

The food was poorly presented. The seasoning was moderate, and the portions were rather small. Service was very quick but unfortunately not particularly attentive. You could hear the clattering of dishes and the banging of schnitzels from the seat next to the door. In my opinion, there's no room for guests. There's no toilet paper, even though a guest had already pointed it out. Unfortunately, overall, a no-go.

Delicious food, lots of it for little money!

I ordered a hunter's salad with chanterelles today, expecting a dish that was both large and visually appropriate for €18.90. Unfortunately, a large plate arrived half-filled with a side salad, with a few chanterelles mixed in. The whole thing came in a watery salad dressing in which the salad had probably been swimming for two hours. When the waiter asked me how I was satisfied, I answered honestly and matter-of-factly. He said he'd pass it on. That was my entire response. Too bad... I've fallen right into the tourist trap. I won't be coming back again.

Good food at reasonable prices. The wait time is short, so I assume not everything is made fresh. But it's tasty—that's the main thing! The service is attentive and fast, but it does have a slight whiff of mass production—but that's also somehow understandable in Lindau's city center. The prices are reasonable—significantly cheaper than at the waterfront.

The food was delicious. We stopped in spontaneously. The service was super friendly, very fast, and competent. The prices were absolutely reasonable for such a touristy place. Personally, I missed the spices at the table, as I like to add more salt, but I didn't ask the staff, so it was absolutely fine.

Great goulash, good service, attentive but not intrusive, fits. I'll go eat again I made it and the Maultaschen were also delicious. It's my favorite place on the island. I've been here too briefly to get annoyed about bad food or snotty waiters elsewhere. And it will still be the same in 2025

On April 29, 2025 we ate schnitzel with asparagus and potatoes. The asparagus was just right: not too soft, not too woody, which is what a lot of spears have been this year.

Affordable home cooking in the heart of Maximilianstraße. We love the fish and pasta dishes.

Perfect place for a warm sit down lunch in the winter. Staff was super friendly and efficient. Our waiter spoke at least four languages. Loved the beef broth with liver and my husband really enjoyed the smoked salmon with hash browns. They also offered “real” salads full of fresh veggies. House wine works well. Overall, just plain good and certainly affordable. Would give 4-1/2 stars if possible.

All we can say about the Lindau restaurant "Zum Alten Rathaus" in the pedestrian zone is: top! Special and particularly tastefully prepared dishes (my favorite when I'm craving meat: Argentinian rump steak with salad and side dishes – the fish dishes are also delicious!), wonderfully friendly staff – and in the summer, you can even sit outside, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Lindau's visitors. The "Ninja Plate," cheese spaetzle, and desserts delight the little ones. And the older ones can always confidently order a glass of really good wine after their dessert to round off a beautiful day in Lindau, while sitting comfortably in the evening sun with loved ones or friends. Everything fits perfectly here, and because we enjoy eating outside in the sun, we're already looking forward to warmer days in Lindau and the Old Town Hall.

Affordable restaurant. The portions are large and the advantage was the Slovak service. :) We ate quickly and well. The dumplings were delicious, and the roast with apples was excellent and unconventional.

Il posticino è informale, semplice, sicuramente piacevole e jntimo, se i gestori fossero gentili. Siamo arrivati verso le 20.30, forse un po' tardi, ma eravamo appena arrivati in loco e, affamati ci siamo messi subito a cercare un ristorante. Al nostro arrivo i gestori sono stati subito scontrosi, a causa dell'orario (avrebbero potuto dirci che la cucina era chiusa e bon) , invece ci hanno fatto accomodare. Con stizza il cameriere ha gettato sul tavolo i menu. Il tedesco è la mia lingua, ma non quella dei miei amici, che non capivano le parolacce che dicevano in cucina . Gli ho detto che avremmo mangiato qualsiasi cosa avessero già pronto, ma non è servito. Intanto un'inserviente ci passava davanti in continuazione con stracci umidi e spazzolone ! Bene, abbiamo scelto un piatto semplice dal menu ma ricevuto tutt'altro e senza il contorno. Ho continuato a non commentare, quando ho chiesto se avessero una password libera per connettermi alla rete, dovevo solo controllare la posta, mi sono sentita dire, testuali parole...Non c'è password né rete, c'è solo l'ora di alzarsi, pagare e uscire! Abbiamo pagato uno sproposito per avere mangiato (perché, zitti, abbiamo mangiato lo stesso, eravamo affamati) male e per essere stati trattati ancor peggio I gestori non erano tedeschi, voglio precisarlo, gli autoctoni sono gentili e premurosi Purtroppo non mi è venuto in mente di fotografare ciò che avevo nel piatto...fa niente, acqua passata Comunque, ristorante sconsigliato, non si meritano clienti paganti!

Hier sind wir mal wieder in eine typische Touristenfalle rein gelaufen. Der Service war sogar noch absolut in Ordnung, aber das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis war eine Unverschämtheit. Cheese spaetzle ordered, we got spaetzle with a cheese sauce. Not typical for Lindau and the surrounding area. Here the operators wanted to save on cheese and made a sauce with cheese. Not good. Overpriced with poor quality food. A few streets further we got good cheese spaetzle.

I wish I'd had the Internet signal to check the reviews of this place before deciding to have dinner here. It wasn't the staff I found offputting [we were lucky I guess], it's the food. It really is a tourist trap. The prices, you think, would equal tasty food but sadly it was just ingredients on a plate. Super expensive and the offering was a huge letdown. We decided to cut our losses and leave after only having one drink with our meal [which was hugely overpriced]. Sadly the rain drove us in out of desperation. Do your research of other places in town before deciding to visit.

We chose this restaurant because it was busy, which is often a sign of good food, and the comfortable armchairs outside looked very inviting. The service was good and quick, but the food was worse than canteen food. We had the whitefish fillet "Muellerin style" and the zander fillet from the grill. In my opinion, the fish wasn't really fresh, I left out the breading because it was inedible. The potatoes that came with it were also of poor quality, I suspect from a jar... To fill myself up, I ordered French fries, which I didn't have to pay for as a courtesy. The leaf salad served with the meal was also presented as carelessly as the fish, the leaves were huge, and I have never had to cut the lettuce into bite-sized pieces myself... I could have guessed what the quality of the kitchen was like, the imitation leather cover of the menu was dirty, I hadn't seen a rag for a long time... It is said that the industry is fighting for survival, but please not by offering its guests poor quality at overpriced prices!

Last week we were in Lindau with my parents for a few days. We were so excited on Monday that we came again on Tuesday. We were lucky to get seats without a reservation, as a table just became available. Friendly and attentive staff, prices absolutely reasonable for the island and excellent food. I've had the best Kässpatzen ever here. Maybe you could check the toilets again and refill used paper and towels. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for the delicious food!

Erwartung von regionaler Küche war nicht gegeben. Sitzplatz genau ggü. Küche. Sie waren bemüht ihr Bestes zu geben, putzten ständig mit EINEM roten Lappen, Schneidebrett, Messer, Tellerränder und Arbeitflächen. Ganze Salatblätter wurden gewaltsam in Form gebracht und mit Fertigdressing begossen. Fleisch wurde schwimmend in Fett auf der Griddelplatte fritiert. Ringergulsch war gut die Tütenspätzle leider ungewürzt. Zander war gut, Pfifferlinge lederig und ungewürzt. Das Jogginghosen jetzt zur Arbeitskleidung gehören war mir neu. Chef setze Bierflasche vor Gästen an. Personal redete unaufhörlich laut auf italienisch, wenn sie nicht auf dem Handy daddelten. Wieder eine Erfahrung gemacht- besser 10 Meter weiter gehen...

Tafelspitz like home-cooked!!! Super tender! To all complainers: KREN is FRESHly grated horseradish and MUST tickle your nose. If you want ready-made sauce because you're used to junk, it's best to go to the supermarket and buy something like that... Great, super nice service. The most comfortable seats ever!! Also super wonderful location 😉

A very good restaurant in Lindau

We were there on August 14, 2024 and wanted to have a drink, but were asked to leave by the waiter on the grounds that you can only order drinks in the restaurant in conjunction with food. We actually wanted to come to dinner that same evening, but of course we didn't do that after the incident.

Super tasty food, good value for money. Cozy atmosphere. The waiter even gave us 2 cigarettes because there was currently no vending machine nearby... super nice service 👍. The sweet and sour liver slices were very tasty!!!

Food ok, but very dog-unfriendly restaurant. When we asked for water for our dog with its own bowl, we were told that no dogs were served here, that you could get some in the toilet....my husband was also verbally attacked by a waiter for no reason as to why he was looking like that.. ..never come back
