What a fantastic restaurant! We were there last week. First of all, the place itself is wonderfully rustic and cozy with all the wood. And then there were the Christmas decorations – simply gorgeous! The service was absolutely brilliant. Very, very polite and attentive, but not at all intrusive. And the food: absolutely amazing. So incredibly delicious!! A must-visit for us when we're back in Munich!

The restaurant is small, and reservations are recommended. Otherwise, in winter, if it's a rainy day and the outdoor tables aren't available, it's difficult to find a table. It's located on a small street near the Viktualienmarkt fish market, a bit hidden away. The staff is very friendly, and the menu is very traditional but with a touch of modernity. It may seem banal, but we had a spectacular breaded schnitzel here! If you're traveling with children, the staff is very friendly, but they don't make any changes to the menu.

What a find! Thankful I got reservations a month out. Small and intimate place with divine food and drinks. Our group of 8 enjoyed our last meal of our trip here. Highly suggest for amazing German food in a gorgeous alpine environment. Having the Christmas decor made it even more magical!

First-class food, a cozy inn, delicious beer and great service!

The cozy, "hunter's" style decor immerses you in a mountain or forest atmosphere. The dishes are varied and delicious, and the restaurant usually also offers an equally appealing seasonal menu.

Walked in without reservation and waitresses was able to help me instantly. Waitress was very helpful and made me feel welcomed. Atmosphere was great and full of Christmas ambiance.Spoke very good english and had great cocktails, main courses and dessert. Would highly recommend for a group and or solo travler! Will definitely go back if in town.

A very quaint restaurant with an intimate atmosphere, whose menu immediately won me over thanks to the variety of options (I rarely stray from the usual choices for fear of having to ask for a couple of ingredients to be removed, but here, finally, no problem!) I only recommend placing a cart outside (which we may have missed) because, since it's not a typical restaurant door, we had a momentary suspicion that the restaurant was closed.

Told “at the moment no chairs” and the hostess walked away. Left and was exited to try the restaurant. ☹️

My family and I walked in without a reservation (though I recommend securing a reservation!) and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the space was warm.

Overall, I was going to give it a 4, but I was left annoyed by the end. But let's start from the beginning: the food. I had the mushroom soup with toast and duck topping. I liked the toast more than the soup because it was slightly too sweet, but after adding salt, it was delicious. Next, I had the schnitzel, which I didn't eat. The breading had so much rosemary that I couldn't taste anything else, and its flavor quickly became overpowering and overpowering. I missed the potato salad, but the potatoes and bacon were good. Finally, I asked for the bill. I had to ask five times because the staff kept telling me to sit and relax – I didn't want to, and I couldn't. I understand the concept that a restaurant isn't fast food, but sometimes you can have limited time for a meal or lack the desire to eat more. The decor was pleasant, and aside from them not wanting to let me leave, it was relatively pleasant, although a little serving training would be helpful. I also recommend replacing the menu cards, as the felt isn't very appetizing, as it collects all the dirt from people's hands.

A truly recommendable restaurant! The service is exceptionally friendly and attentive – you can tell the team is dedicated to ensuring guests have a pleasant experience. I find it very convenient that you can easily reserve a table online. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and freshly prepared. The drinks – whether beer or cocktails – were also perfectly chilled and served flawlessly. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting; you simply feel at ease here. One small suggestion for improvement: Perhaps the children's coloring book could be available in multiple copies so that two or three tables could use it simultaneously. Overall, a truly wonderful experience.

The best suggestion for food, in the heart of the city. The platter was impeccable and the tatar as well. White Tuscan chardonnay and the schnitzel with a different breading and quite interesting. All created with imagination and served with courtesy and manners. I give it a high rating and definitely recommend it unreservedly

There were seven of us and we enjoyed the ambiance, the food, and the service. Very friendly and excellent. Of course, reservations are essential. If we come back to Munich, this is a must.

All I can say is, wow. Great place with a cozy atmosphere, incredibly friendly and welcoming service, and fantastic food. The value for money is absolutely spot on. The food is so delicious, fresh, local, and of the highest quality. We would come back again and again; we felt completely at home. The restrooms are also a great result. Everything just fits together perfectly.

A very cozy restaurant with rustic decor – you immediately feel like you're on an alpine pasture! The staff is exceptionally attentive and warm, as if they've known each other for a long time. The food was excellent, and we felt completely at home. Highly recommended!

Stopped by for lunch without a reservation. Everything we had was amazing. We got the dip appetizer which was fantastic, and I had the schnitzel also, husband had the goulash. Recommend everything... such wonderful food!

I visited Zum Alten Markt and it was truly a wonderful experience. Our experience was not a pleasant one. After our drinks were served, the waiter took our food order, and about an hour later we were asked if we wanted anything else because they were taking their last orders. When we said we had already ordered, the same waiter acted as if we hadn't ordered anything and left us without even offering an apology. The food would probably have been good if the service hadn't been so poor.

Asked for outside seating and Magdalena? told me I could pick any seat I wanted. Sat down on a little bench in the middle and this really young looking guys comes and tells me to move and find a 1person seat ! No help no direction. So after failing to find one that was clean and not reserved (btw 1 was not cleaned and the other was marked reserved) I stopped him and asked him if he could help and he goes I cannot just pick something 1-seat / 2-seat. Perhaps they are too busy perhaps they don’t care. Definitely DO NOT deserve a 4+ star rating !!!

We ordered our food, we waited for about 1h, the waiter came to us to ask if we want one more glass of drink, we refused and just asked how long the food would take to be ready and literally he asked what food, he doesn’t know nothing about it, but obviously he was the same person who took us the order, not a sorry, not anything, just asked for the bill and that was it, very disappointed by the fact we didn’t receive at least some apologies.

WE’ve been waiting for 1 hour, and after that they tell us that we did not order anything…

The service was really bad. we ordered food and waited for an hour before someone came to ask us if we wanted anything. they tired to turn the blame on us. everyone else was getting the food before us and they never once thought to ask before at least an hour passed. we didnt have a reservation and waited for a while before getting a table but once we did they forgot about us after bringing the drinks. all in all i dont understand the high rating, simply based on the rating.

Food was very tasty. No reservation on a Saturday in August and they found room and took great care of us. Beer was gut. Appetizers were good. We split a meal. It was plenty.

Luckily, I followed the advice to check the menu first, as it differs considerably from online menus. And I also took a good look, because the prices for the dishes were definitely too high for me personally.

Highly recommended. We had an excellent meal today, and the service was very warm and friendly. We had meatballs with chanterelle mushrooms, rosemary potatoes with a very good sauce, and an equally excellent side salad. In summary: great atmosphere, great service, and equally great food! Thank you very much, we'd love to come back.

Always a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center. While the restaurant is as centrally located as possible, its slightly courtyard setting makes it a great place to sit and relax in the afternoon or indulge in a good meal in the evening. The wine list is unique and well-chosen, and there's always a rich selection of regional and seasonal dishes that change regularly. The service is exceptionally warm and informal, making you feel immediately welcome. It's no longer an insider tip.

We arrived at 4 pm. I did not order typical franconian/bavarian dish. It was salmon. It was good indeed. My wife had chanterelle soup/cream- very nice. Location -perfect -tiny yard in the middle of the big city. Good service.

Truly awful! We went there, asked if there was room, and he said no. Meanwhile, my son (5 years old) had a sudden urge to pee, and I asked if we could still use the bathroom. He gave us a rude NO. Truly shameful. Humanity comes FIRST. Shame on you, waitress! And to think that if there was room, we would have even spent money there. You don't deserve it. Nobody's!

Very pleasant and friendly restaurant. The food is excellent and very comforting. Our waitress was incredibly adorable (we don't speak German and very little English), and she took great care of us throughout the meal. If I ever return to Munich, this will be a must-do 🤤 Remember to make a reservation because the dining room is very small.

This is by far the best place for foreign tourists. Stuff speaks fluent English.

Excellent meal at this Bavarian restaurant in the centre of Munich. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of outdoor seating in a pedestrian square. The inside has lovely wood panelled walls. The meat and cheese platter to share is huge.

The prices for the food are high, but the quality and service more than justify it. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food could best be described as "traditional with a modern twist." The portions were filling, were attractively presented, and were very tasty. Highly recommended overall.

A typical Bavarian restaurant, especially characteristic inside. Food and service could be improved. Aside from the young man who served us, the rest of the staff was uncharismatic and unfriendly. Like, "Eat up and leave." One thing I can't stand in restaurants is the excessive price of bottled water (€7.90). Water isn't a luxury but an essential, primary need.

We only had mixed starter and desert. The starter was a mixed plate of cold meats, bread and tasted great. The desert was absolutely fabulous, strongly recommended. The service outdoor was also excellent despite the rain.

Alt gentlemen....tired of seeing places in Munich that always offer the same dishes as if the menu was a copy and paste for everyone??? Well follow me.... Here we are talking about haute cuisine and at Zum Alten Markt they know how to do catering like only in Italy you can delight the palate. My wife and I for the three days in Munich were lucky enough to get to know this place really well managed by the owners and for two dinners we were amply repaid. The bill for the excellent quality of the food and the plating because the view also wants its part was not particularly expensive I assure you. I leave some photos that speak for themselves. We spontaneously went to the "Alter Markt" today! An excellent restaurant with delicious food! The portions are generous and the selection is perfect! The quality here is truly outstanding! The ambiance is great, the restaurant is quiet and centrally located! The service is excellent! That's how it should be! Next time we're in Munich, we'll be back :-)

Oh, the best schnitzel ever, I've never eaten such a good one. We showed up without a reservation – the service was very friendly and made it possible for us to get a seat. I've lived in Munich for 24 years and have never been to this restaurant near Marienplatz. Excellent service, qualified and professional staff. The cuisine is very refined, and for me, of high quality. There are no German classics. The chef creates his own menu, with well-prepared and balanced portions. I drank an excellent Primitivo, which I highly recommend.

This is a must dine. It's away from the busy tourist traffic. The ladies here run this place well, they will accommodate you even if you don't have a reservation (once they are able to) The Bella ciao starter vegetables and pork tenderloin main were amazing, best restaurant food since being in Munich. I'll have to come back.

Charm and authenticity are two cornerstones that define this wonderful inn. Run by two very friendly people, we were taken on a journey into modern Bavarian cuisine. Advance reservations are strongly recommended, as otherwise it will be very difficult to get a table. And there's definitely a reason for this: The food was perfectly prepared, and all dishes were cooked to perfection. The menu included classics, as well as contemporary and interesting dishes. There's something for everyone. The tiramisu with green asparagus was particularly noteworthy! A big compliment also goes to the warm and friendly nature of the hosts, who made the evening a special one. I highly recommend it to everyone.
