A very cozy restaurant with rustic decor – you immediately feel like you're on an alpine pasture! The staff is exceptionally attentive and warm, as if they've known each other for a long time. The food was excellent, and we felt completely at home. Highly recommended!

Stopped by for lunch without a reservation. Everything we had was amazing. We got the dip appetizer which was fantastic, and I had the schnitzel also, husband had the goulash. Recommend everything... such wonderful food!

I visited Zum Alten Markt and it was truly a wonderful experience. The restaurant has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with a traditional design that makes you feel like you’re stepping into a charming old Bavarian home. The outdoor seating is especially enjoyable, surrounded by flowers and rustic wooden details that add a special touch. Service was excellent and fast, with very friendly and attentive staff. The location is also perfect, just a short walk from Marienplatz, making it a great spot to relax after exploring the city center. Overall, it’s a comfortable and authentic place that’s definitely worth a visit.

Our experience was not a pleasant one. After our drinks were served, the waiter took our food order, and about an hour later we were asked if we wanted anything else because they were taking their last orders. When we said we had already ordered, the same waiter acted as if we hadn't ordered anything and left us without even offering an apology. The food would probably have been good if the service hadn't been so poor.

Asked for outside seating and Magdalena? told me I could pick any seat I wanted. Sat down on a little bench in the middle and this really young looking guys comes and tells me to move and find a 1person seat ! No help no direction. So after failing to find one that was clean and not reserved (btw 1 was not cleaned and the other was marked reserved) I stopped him and asked him if he could help and he goes I cannot just pick something 1-seat / 2-seat. Perhaps they are too busy perhaps they don’t care. Definitely DO NOT deserve a 4+ star rating !!!

We ordered our food, we waited for about 1h, the waiter came to us to ask if we want one more glass of drink, we refused and just asked how long the food would take to be ready and literally he asked what food, he doesn’t know nothing about it, but obviously he was the same person who took us the order, not a sorry, not anything, just asked for the bill and that was it, very disappointed by the fact we didn’t receive at least some apologies.

The service was really bad. we ordered food and waited for an hour before someone came to ask us if we wanted anything. they tired to turn the blame on us. everyone else was getting the food before us and they never once thought to ask before at least an hour passed. we didnt have a reservation and waited for a while before getting a table but once we did they forgot about us after bringing the drinks. all in all i dont understand the high rating, simply based on the rating.

WE’ve been waiting for 1 hour, and after that they tell us that we did not order anything…

Food was very tasty. No reservation on a Saturday in August and they found room and took great care of us. Beer was gut. Appetizers were good. We split a meal. It was plenty.

Luckily, I followed the advice to check the menu first, as it differs considerably from online menus. And I also took a good look, because the prices for the dishes were definitely too high for me personally.

Highly recommended. We had an excellent meal today, and the service was very warm and friendly. We had meatballs with chanterelle mushrooms, rosemary potatoes with a very good sauce, and an equally excellent side salad. In summary: great atmosphere, great service, and equally great food! Thank you very much, we'd love to come back.

Always a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center. While the restaurant is as centrally located as possible, its slightly courtyard setting makes it a great place to sit and relax in the afternoon or indulge in a good meal in the evening. The wine list is unique and well-chosen, and there's always a rich selection of regional and seasonal dishes that change regularly. The service is exceptionally warm and informal, making you feel immediately welcome. It's no longer an insider tip.

We arrived at 4 pm. I did not order typical franconian/bavarian dish. It was salmon. It was good indeed. My wife had chanterelle soup/cream- very nice. Location -perfect -tiny yard in the middle of the big city. Good service.

Truly awful! We went there, asked if there was room, and he said no. Meanwhile, my son (5 years old) had a sudden urge to pee, and I asked if we could still use the bathroom. He gave us a rude NO. Truly shameful. Humanity comes FIRST. Shame on you, waitress! And to think that if there was room, we would have even spent money there. You don't deserve it. Nobody's!

Very pleasant and friendly restaurant. The food is excellent and very comforting. Our waitress was incredibly adorable (we don't speak German and very little English), and she took great care of us throughout the meal. If I ever return to Munich, this will be a must-do 🤤 Remember to make a reservation because the dining room is very small.

This is by far the best place for foreign tourists. Stuff speaks fluent English.

Excellent meal at this Bavarian restaurant in the centre of Munich. Friendly and helpful staff. Lots of outdoor seating in a pedestrian square. The inside has lovely wood panelled walls. The meat and cheese platter to share is huge.

The prices for the food are high, but the quality and service more than justify it. The staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food could best be described as "traditional with a modern twist." The portions were filling, were attractively presented, and were very tasty. Highly recommended overall.

A typical Bavarian restaurant, especially characteristic inside. Food and service could be improved. Aside from the young man who served us, the rest of the staff was uncharismatic and unfriendly. Like, "Eat up and leave." One thing I can't stand in restaurants is the excessive price of bottled water (€7.90). Water isn't a luxury but an essential, primary need.

A very cute and beautifully decorated restaurant. It also has an outdoor area. It's a bit pricey, but it's located near the Viktualienmarkt, so that's normal! The waitresses were all super friendly and made you feel welcome!

We only had mixed starter and desert. The starter was a mixed plate of cold meats, bread and tasted great. The desert was absolutely fabulous, strongly recommended. The service outdoor was also excellent despite the rain.

Alt gentlemen....tired of seeing places in Munich that always offer the same dishes as if the menu was a copy and paste for everyone??? Well follow me.... Here we are talking about haute cuisine and at Zum Alten Markt they know how to do catering like only in Italy you can delight the palate. My wife and I for the three days in Munich were lucky enough to get to know this place really well managed by the owners and for two dinners we were amply repaid. The bill for the excellent quality of the food and the plating because the view also wants its part was not particularly expensive I assure you. I leave some photos that speak for themselves. We spontaneously went to the "Alter Markt" today! An excellent restaurant with delicious food! The portions are generous and the selection is perfect! The quality here is truly outstanding! The ambiance is great, the restaurant is quiet and centrally located! The service is excellent! That's how it should be! Next time we're in Munich, we'll be back :-)

Oh, the best schnitzel ever, I've never eaten such a good one. We showed up without a reservation – the service was very friendly and made it possible for us to get a seat. The atmosphere was lovely, quaint little restaurant; we felt at home. We'll definitely be back, but make sure to make a reservation.

I've lived in Munich for 24 years and have never been to this restaurant near Marienplatz. Excellent service, qualified and professional staff. The cuisine is very refined, and for me, of high quality. There are no German classics. The chef creates his own menu, with well-prepared and balanced portions. I drank an excellent Primitivo, which I highly recommend.

This is a must dine. It's away from the busy tourist traffic. The ladies here run this place well, they will accommodate you even if you don't have a reservation (once they are able to) The Bella ciao starter vegetables and pork tenderloin main were amazing, best restaurant food since being in Munich. I'll have to come back.

The staff is extremely friendly, courteous, and very attentive. Reservations are recommended. Thankfully, we managed to get a spot without a reservation. The restaurant was very busy.

Charm and authenticity are two cornerstones that define this wonderful inn. Run by two very friendly people, we were taken on a journey into modern Bavarian cuisine. Advance reservations are strongly recommended, as otherwise it will be very difficult to get a table. And there's definitely a reason for this: The food was perfectly prepared, and all dishes were cooked to perfection. The menu included classics, as well as contemporary and interesting dishes. There's something for everyone. The tiramisu with green asparagus was particularly noteworthy! A big compliment also goes to the warm and friendly nature of the hosts, who made the evening a special one. I highly recommend it to everyone.

We had to wait a long time, but in the end it was totally worth it. The food was really good – fresh, plentiful, and delicious. Exactly what you need after a hard day at work. If you have a bit of time, you'll get a decent meal here.

We discovered the restaurant by chance, the welcome was very warm, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. What is particularly worth mentioning is that my dogs were immediately given a water bowl and later treats were served to the table as a reward. I have never been to a restaurant where my dogs were treated like this

This is a favorite spot anytime I’m in town. Lovely outdoor dining experience weather permitting. The tables inside are cozy and the decor is adorable. The cuisine is inspired, refreshingly seasonal and delicious. Service never disappoints. Eva, our server last time, was most patient and helpful. Highly recommend!

Delicious meal and friendly, attentive service. Tiny place with a cosy hunting or ski lodge atmosphere. Started off with outstanding sweet sardines from Brittany and some roasted brown bread. Don’t let the tin can fool you; the sardines are very good. My husband had salmon with 2 delightful sauces, one made with vermouth, the other with sherry and black tomato. I had pork schnitzel, with delicious lightly fried potatoes. Good dry riesling. Shared a fresh, tasty salad. Too full for dessert. We walked back to our hotel very happy. Thanks to everyone at the restaurant.

During a trip I stopped by the Old Market to have a drink. I was warmly welcomed and offered a place straight away. The atmosphere is great and the beer tastes really good, I'll definitely come back and try the food too.
