Great evening that exceeded our expectations!! We had eaten in a larger, certainly good restaurant the evening before, but we had had enough of the large and loud groups of tourists. There was a very homely atmosphere here, lots of tables for two. The service was super attentive and nice (Franzi), even though the restaurant was completely full. The food was great, Bavarian cuisine was very fine and original. People like to stay seated after eating and drink one or two more glasses!! We'll be back when we come back to Munich from the far north!

It was an outstanding experience. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with incredibly friendly staff. The food was excellent, and I highly recommend trying the meatballs. When I’m back in Munich, this will definitely be a spot I’ll visit again.

A Bavarian restaurant where it's not easy to get a seat without making a reservation in advance. Nevertheless, this family business always remains friendly and objective towards its guests. The typical Bavarian food was prepared and presented very tasty and at a high level. Therefore, the prices are not acceptable for every tourist.

Eat: The food was simply outstanding! The dishes were freshly prepared and full of flavor, perfectly seasoned and creatively presented. I was also pleasantly surprised by the selection of vegetarian/vegan options. But, not exactly cheap! Service: The service was attentive and friendly. Our waitress was very competent and was able to give us excellent advice on choosing the dishes. The waiting times were reasonable and we felt well looked after without it seeming intrusive. Ambiance: The ambience of the restaurant is inviting and cozy. The furnishings are tasteful and create a pleasant atmosphere. The lighting is perfect to create a relaxed mood. Also ideal for a romantic dinner or a sociable meal with friends. Conclusion: Overall it was a wonderful evening. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back soon!

Very tasty food and nice atmosphere. But we particularly liked the service; we felt very comfortable. Despite a lot of work, the waitress always had a funny saying, was very friendly and managed everything very cordially. We would eat there again at any time.

I am from Munich an ate there last night for the first time. The atmosphere is brilliant, the decoration beautiful, the lady that served us was most wonderful and the food among the best I ever ate out in Munich. Yes it is a little bit more expensive but the quality is absolutly worth it. A big thanks to the Zum Alten Markt team, who gave us a wondeful dining experience. We will definitely come more often!

Very nice but small place. We had something on the terrace, good service but the beer was hot, I told him and he told me that he already knew... well, why would you bring it to me hot, he told me that he would bring me another one but I told him no. We finished the other one my girl was taking and we left. The truth is that there are things that I will never understand...

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Munich. Comfortable and casual environment with a very delicious menu that was rustic but broke from the typical traditional fare with a slight twist for the adventurous. The level of service was perfect and staff welcoming. I’d eat there again and already recommended to others. I look forward to my next visit.

Delicious food, there is not much room inside and there is a good chance that everything has been reserved. Better chance of getting a spot outside! Good service, friendly.

Traditionally inspired place with traditional dishes very well made and presented. The atmosphere is excellent, as is the kindness of the people who serve you. Despite going without a reservation, and it being a small place, they quickly made room for us at a table. The staff was friendly and advised us at all times, in addition to being very friendly. Without a doubt a place to go to again.

We celebrated our daughter's wedding here and what can I say… We have never been guided through a celebratory evening so lovingly as this one. Everyone was so warm, loving and attentive! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the menu was absolutely perfect! You can really see the love for the job here. Last but not least, the wonderful owners and their employees contributed to making it an unforgettable evening. Thank you very much :)

Were there last Tuesday. Had a great snack for 2 people. Great value for money. Very nice hosts and courteous service. Typically Bavarian ambience, both inside and outside. We played cards for hours. Absolutely recommended

This was such a charming restaurant! The service was great, the food and cocktails excellent, and the location more tucked away from the main area. Would definitely recommend reservations as several walk-ins were turned away as we were eating.

Had a wonderful lunch outside. The dishes were traditional and lovely, just the right size and very high quality. We had the Schnitzel which was unique with its crust and amazing roasted potatoes, as well as the vegetarian dish that was very tasty. I took the Sarti spritz which refreshing and well balanced. For desert we took the traditional apricot dumplings. The prices are on the high side but the service was very welcoming and professional.

Here in the Restaurant Zum alten Markt you can still get real, fresh cuisine prepared with love. The service from the next star. Just wow. Always my pleasure

Wonderful ambience with super delicious, inspiring food. We had a good time there today and felt very comfortable. The entire staff and especially the boss are very warm. We will definitely be back next time we visit Munich.

I would like to point out that ultimately the service was sufficient, but not enough to deserve 4 stars. The biggest flaw concerns the food... Let's start by clarifying that the staff is quite visually impaired in noticing customers, (menus closed = I want to order), the wait for 2 salads is completely unjustified. The meat was tasteless and cooked half rare and half raw (could it be due to the freezer?), the accompanying sauce tasted incredibly like nothing, the potatoes were undercooked. All the vegetables even in my friends' dishes gave the impression of being reheated frozen foods, given the little flavour, the potato pancakes were apricot ("in search of apricot" new Disney film), also clearly taken from the lidl and reheated . For the rest everything is to my liking

Immer wieder einen Besuch wert! Essen und Service hervorragend. Waren draußen gemütlich gesessen. Drinnen ist es aber unschlagbar schön und mit so viel Extras liebevoll eingerichtet. Preis/Leistung stimmen und jedes Gericht ist geschmacklich und fuer‘s Auge kaum zu überbieten.

The food, service and ambience are all more than worth the 5 stars. I had dinner with my girlfriend, thank God we had reservations as the tables outside are very popular and rare. All the waitresses were very attentive and accommodating. I can highly recommend the schnitzel in pumpkin seeds with potatoes and cranberries. Overall, it was an extremely successful stay from the welcome, the service, the presentation of the food, the attention, the prices and the ambience. I can highly recommend everyone to try this restaurant! Don't forget to reserve!!

We were there at lunchtime on a hot summer day. It's very pleasant to sit in the shade in the courtyard and enjoy the delicious food on great dishes. There are many delicious dishes on the menu that we had a hard time deciding on. The service was great, we would love to come back!

Found this gem while exploring Munich's old town and I was not disappointed! The food was really good ! The waiter who I forgot his name was totally helpful and humorous. I ordered soup and when my soup was served, it was served dry without any soup in it. He said "and for you sir， the dryest soup in Munich" I thought I heard wrong, is this some kind of joke ? You can imagine what was going through my head. Did I order wrong ? Is this some kind of deconstructed soup ? While I was staring into the dry contents of my plate, he non chalantly revealed a pourer with my soup inside and proceeded to pour into my bowl, while giving me a "gotcha look". He got me good. Overall, great food, great service, great atmosphere.

Yesterday we went to “Zum alten Markt” for the first time and we were absolutely thrilled. The service was incredibly dedicated and all the staff were extremely friendly, even when the restaurant was full. They really took the time to ensure that we as guests were completely satisfied. The food was an absolute dream and we enjoyed it exceptionally well. Our dog was also warmly welcomed and given water and treats. The stylish interior perfectly rounds off the positive overall impression. To the entire team: Thank you, dear ones, for so much empathy. We felt accepted and welcome. Thank you for that!

We were 2 minutes late to the restaurant and the manager gave up our table to another family. I had made these reservations well in advance and paid for a taxi to get there. Terrible service.

Dinner Zum Alten Markt €104.30/4 people It didn’t open until 5pm, so I arrived early at 4pm and hung out for an hour before I could get in. I ordered cocktails, salads, pumpkin schnitzel, scallops, shrimps, trout roe pasta, and fried cod. Cooked to order, the meals and drinks are delicious!

Very good meal, refined and delicious, on the terrace in a charming place. The service is fast and the quality/price ratio is excellent. The staff is very welcoming and fun. Let yourself be surprised by their dessert of the moment!

The Zum Alten Markt is a super nice, cozy restaurant reminiscent of an alpine hut with upscale and modern Bavarian cuisine. The service is brilliant, all the waitresses are super friendly, funny, very helpful and attentive. I always enjoy coming back and am already looking forward to the next time.

Das zum alten Markt ist ein super schönes, gemütliches, an eine Almhütte erinnerndes Restaurant mit gehobener sowie moderner Bayrischen Küche. Der Service ist genial, alle Bedienungen sind super freundlich, lustig, sehr hilfreich und aufmerksam. Komme immer wieder gerne und freue mich schon auf das nächste Mal.

Quaint restaurant with beautiful ceilings and a variety of decor. The food tasted homemade and the staff was friendly. We were there during spargle season, and I'll never forget how helpful the manager or owner was to another patron. The patron had a bandage on her right hand, making it difficult to cut her serving of spargle. The manager/owner came over and cut the asparagus for the patron and drizzled butter for her. That gesture was so sincere that it moved me deeply. It showed me how much the staff cares - not just in that gesture, but also in the delicious food! Thank you for such a memorable dinner!!

This place was a big disappointment, I'm honestly very surprised it's so highly rated. First off, the service is excellent, multiple waitresses came over to check on me and bring me what I ordered and refill my wine glass, you really can't ask for better service. The food, on the other hand, is really not very good. I had this seafood bisque that had a fishy taste, then a pork entree with potato cakes and a sauce with herbs. The meat was dry and the herbs didn't quite go with the sauce, everything was overall very bland and the sauce watery. The dessert was a white chocolate cake that mainly tasted like raw dough, and the homemade ice cream was actually the star of the show. It's a shame that a restaurant with service this good had food that was so incredibly mediocre.

Small, very quaint restaurant! Absolutely fantastic food, slightly high prices. Reservations are a must as there are only a few tables inside. The outside area is also nice and very pleasantly shady in summer. Clear recommendation!

We found this little gem while looking for something to have for dinner. We were a party of five (which became a party of three when the teenagers suddenly decided to visit a fast food chain) and we did not expect to be seated as we had no reservation. The staff was very accommodating, telling us that we could use a reserved table that they would not need for another 1,5 hour. We took a shrimp salad (big portion), another good-sized schnitzel (the most original I have ever had) and a veal with bacon and asparagus. The food was extra delicious and the servers very welcoming and pleasant. As soon as we finished our dinner, it started to rain and, while we were waiting for the teenage disasters to reappear, we were invited to the inside of the restaurant (also very cute and welcoming) until the arrival of the younger generation. I would definitely go again!!! I only regret not taking photos of the place and the food.

Amazing! All our dishes were great. Had the pork tips in the mushroom sauce and it was absolutely delicious. Was nice to get Bavarian/German inspired meal, but with (big) step up from the basic offerings on the main streets.

We visiting Munich for a conference from Australia and we found this Restaurant on our first evening in Munich by chance just walking past. They told us they were booked out but we said we are happy to wait. After 20 min we had a table inside. The venue and the ambience inside is so beautiful. The staff is incredible attentive and super friendly and real. The food was exceptional. We had „Heimatgedeck – I Schmier Da Oane“, „Italienisch – Bayrische Freundschaft“, „Saustall“ – (Jeden Tag Frisch- Deswegen: Wenn Aus Dann Leer) und „Heimatliebe“. We went back for a second time on our last day in Munich and we were again super happy. The staff is really passionate and Vanessa was just awesome and super nice.

I was there on Saturday afternoon with a friend (on the “Scots weekend”), which was a big day for the kitchen and staff. Nevertheless, all of the waitresses were neither stressed nor annoyed (which would have been understandable) but rather exceptionally friendly, very nice and always attentive. The food was also very tasty and the selection was not the Munich “standard menu”. A big compliment to the entire team. I look forward to the next visit.

Ein sehr sehr schönes uriges und sehr sauberes Restaurant (auch die sanitären Anlagen) mit einer sehr heimeligen Atmosphäre. Jeder Mitarbeiter ist zuvorkommend, aufmerksam und sehr freundlich. Als Allergikerin zauberte man mir ein wunderbares Gericht welches sehr gut vertragen wurde. Franzi, eine sehr aufgeschlossene und ausgezeichnete Servierdame, begleitete uns durch den Abend. Sie imponierte mit Ihrem fundierten Wissen über die Weinkarte. Ein kurzes abschliessendes Gespräch mit der ebenfalls sehr freundlichen Geschäftsführerin Ninja zusammen mit dem Junior Chef Hund Pumuckl rundeten den Abend ab. Wir freuen uns sehr auf einen weiteren Besuch in „Zum Alten Markt“ und danken für einen gelungenen Abend.

All I can say is top top top. The service was incredible, we walked in the door and were asked if they could take the wet umbrellas away from us. Very accommodating, the food was a dream (I'm not exaggerating) there was nothing missing. I can only recommend Zum Alten Markt. Thank you for the great culinary delight. We will be back.

The food was super tasty, fresh and something different, there's nothing wrong with that! I have rarely had such friendly and cheerful service. You always have an overview, are quick and very attentive. The ambience also invites you to linger. All in all, a really sweet corner where you'll enjoy spending your time!

The schnitzel was very dry, and the staff was very worked up.. If you want to eat a good schnitzel, dont go here. They also didn't come up with a solution and didn't take it seriously. Only positive was the location and the weizen beer.
