It's a nice beer garden with typical beer garden dishes. Peacocks roam freely on the premises. The toilets are not the newest, but they are clean.

A beautiful, well-kept and spacious beer garden, with a playground, pond, small and large enclosures and many animals. It was my first time here and I felt very comfortable. The staff was quick, extremely friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was very nice. Only the prices of the dishes compared to the portion and size were too high in my opinion. I needed two dishes to fill me up and unfortunately it ended up being too expensive for me. Otherwise it is highly recommended, especially for families, cozy and quiet.

I have known the lime kiln since my youth. It is a great beer garden located on the edge of the forest, beautifully idyllic, with a pond, etc. But what I noticed yesterday for the first time was the overpriced prices. A bratwurst with fries €9.50, a meatball with tzatziki and a few manageable fries €16. Sorry, this is still self-service, this is a beer garden that really has the simplest cuisine. For €16 I can eat a decent meal with better quality in a normal restaurant and be served. At least I'll keep it that way next time, I'll happily go there for an Äppler, I'll eat at home first. My money is simply too good for that because the price-performance ratio is simply bad when it comes to food. The food there is okay, but definitely not worth the price. Yesterday, on a Thursday, there was almost nothing going on, with great weather.

We celebrated our birthday here. The location is particularly beautiful. It is cool and pleasant. Very nice, well-maintained facility. The food is good and rustic. Highly recommended

Torn between reviews! Great, large beer garden and great beer on tap, on Sundays and public holidays even food straight from the swivel grill BUT very ambitious price levels for both drinks and especially for food, even with self-service.

The large, great beer garden is partly shady and always beautiful. The food and drinks are very tasty and are always freshly prepared. A visit is always worth it.

I've enjoyed coming here for years, but the quality of the food gets worse every year... rolls taste like they're 3 days old, fries taste like old fat... and then there's the price. The atmosphere is really nice but I won't eat here again.

The Kalkofen is a very nice beer garden. Idyllically located on the edge of the forest, you can expect typical beer garden cuisine. If you are in the area Alter Falls is worth a visit.

Nice place with great ambience. Unfortunately, the food is rather subpar for the prices. cold currywurst and rather bland. You can't go wrong with the drinks.

Eating was a disaster, we had 2 steaks, both of them tasted boring, neither coleslaw nor potato salad were edible, rolls from the freezer, grade 4-5 and that for 27 euros!!! Nice atmosphere, good for a beer, nothing more.

I can't rate the food, we just had something to drink after a long walk. Service - self-service. Very nicely located, you can go for a lovely walk and relax. Really recommended as a destination!

I've loved this place since I was there as a child and a lot has developed since then. As a biologist, I of course think the pond in the middle and the peacocks that walk around are really great - even if their voice isn't the prettiest, but they are incredibly beautiful! ;D

A beautiful and remote location. There is classic snack food (curry sausage, meatballs etc) but also potato pancakes and ice cream. Price-wise it's okay. Good taste. Drinks include coffee, soft drinks and beers. The location itself also has an animal enclosure with one or two peacocks. So something for children too :) So far I've only seen it outside, where there is enough sun protection. There is no service. You get everything yourself. There are also enough parking spaces available.

I recently visited here with my parents and we ate hand cheese with bread and two portions of fries. I'm not a fan of hand cheese but I liked it myself and I don't have excessive demands on fries but they were very well seasoned and crispy. The ambience was nice as always and unlike others who leave reviews here, I have no problem with self-service. On the contrary: you can then sit relaxed and not have to wave anyone over to pay. The young people who collect the dishes are discreet and friendly and the service at the counter was patient when we needed a moment to order. Until next time :D

We have enjoyed coming here for years. But unfortunately the quality leaves a lot to be desired. The food, currywurst and meat loaf for example, wasn't the best quality and didn't taste particularly good. Food and especially drinks (beer) are simply far too expensive. Those responsible should reconsider this, then more guests will definitely come again. You can already tell that many people don't come here anymore. At some point something like this will take revenge.

I have enjoyed being a guest at the Kalkofen for many years and this evening I took advantage of the nice weather to combine a short bike ride with a visit there. It's very nice to sit there in nature and the ambience is as wonderful as ever - the only thing you shouldn't eat here is a medium-sized pork steak of medium size and quality with a (manageable) portion of fries, a good smack of tzatziki and a wheat beer The cost here is 23 euros - mind you, if you do self-service. Despite all understanding for inflation-related price increases, a return to the full VAT rate and an increased minimum wage, this is unfortunately disproportionate to the service offered That's really a pity.

The food was ok. You order at the counter and there is no service. Unfortunately the staff was rather unfriendly. However, the location is very nice.

Discovered it by chance while cycling and quickly stopped in because I was feeling a little hungry. I've been craving a currywurst with fries all day. Great, you can find them here. Ordered at the self-service counter (there are 0 points for the service) and received it after a few minutes. That was to pay off because the sausage was only lukewarm. But the sauce was terrible. Sugar sweet and never homemade! Typical consistency and taste of the curry sauce from these large red plastic bottles. The bratwurst was nothing special, more of a mass-produced product from the refrigerated section. I was still full, even considering the price! No risk of repetition!

Always worth a bike ride. When the weather is good it's always very busy but you can always find a place. I've never experienced not being able to get a place. You shouldn't be picky here. The selection of food is very good, there are small things, hearty, grilled, ice cream. When it comes to drinks, there is something for everyone. There is a playground for children. Animals to look at and there is an aviary in the middle of the beer garden. There is a forest adventure trail behind the cold oven. On the way back you can buy asparagus or strawberries from the farmer.

The food could be a little better but okay. More reminiscent of canteen food. Unfortunately, Handkäs is not an original dish like in Frankfurt but is probably due to the region. Service is difficult to assess as there is only self service. However, the staff was very friendly and tables were cleared regularly.

Spacious excursion restaurant with pond and aviary on the edge of the forest. The food tasted very good and the portions were reasonable. Easier to reach by bike than by car.

Certainly nice when the weather is nice! The bratwurst with warm rolls was delicious. The hand cheese with music is an insult to the traditional Hessian dish. The music was water with onions…. the hand cheese….small and a disappointment in terms of taste…. only 1 slice of bread….with a packaged piece of butter….not sustainable….everything is just set to “mass operation”.

An oasis at the gates of Darmstadt. Beer garden perfectly embedded in nature with super organized service and great food. Swivel grill on Sundays and public holidays. Definitely try spare ribs!

Only had a measure of wheat (for €9 + €2.50 glass deposit). The beer was very tasty (after the walk) and the atmosphere was appealing. I'll soon be bringing my wife and daughter with me and eating something from the tempting-looking swivel grill.

The increase in the price of spareribs of almost 50% from last year to this year is simply beyond words. 14 euros for spare ribs with rolls, no thanks!

Unfortunately the food wasn't that great, the food was cold, expensive and very little choice. The price-performance ratio is not right. Ambience is inviting, service is good.

Unfortunately we were incredibly disappointed with the food today. The hand cheese is half the size of usual, served with a slice of bread. Price 6€ The sausage salad used to be a good portion in black soup bowls, today it's a small salad bowl half full with just a slice of bread. Price 6€ Unfortunately I think it's incredibly overpriced for the amount you get. A pity !

A bit isolated from the main road, but pleasantly quiet. Easily accessible by bike, but there is also free parking for cars. Casual beer garden atmosphere. In the middle there is a fenced off island with birds. By the way, there are a few peacocks running around freely throughout the area and every now and then they look curiously at the visitors' plates, so they come very close. Very impressive!

Schöner Biergarten, sehr außerhalb.

Schöner Biergarten mit Tieren wie etwa Pfauen die frei rum laufen, eingezäuntes Gehege mit Waschbären und verschiedenen exotischen Vogelarten . Es gibt verschiedene Speisen z.B. Tzatziki super lecker zum Steak. Selbstbedienung ist dort üblich. Tische werden vom freundlichen Personal abgeräumt. Ein sehr schönen Sonntagnachmittag dort verbracht.

Gutes Grohe naturtrübes Bier und Apfelwein. Bei großem Andrang wie heute muss man etwas Geduld mit bringen. Haben aber relativ Problemlos einen Platz bekommen

An diesen Ort komme ich gerne wieder wegen der schönen Lage im Wald und den Pfauen und Papageien. Aber das Essen ist nicht gut, höchstens Imbiss Qualität. 5 Sterne für die Tiere, 3 Sterne für das Bier, 0 Sterne für die Küche.

Das Forsthaus liegt idyllisch in den Feldern und am Waldrand bei Darmstadt Arheilgen und ist von allen Richtungen aus zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad gut zu erreichen. Das Forsthaus ist auch mit dem PKW erreichbar. Die Zahl der Sitzplätze wurde in den letzten Jahren deutlich erhöht; der Service an der Ausgabe hält bei hohem Gastaufkommen nicht immer mit. Der Biergarten ist bei schönem Wetter geöffnet; es gibt kleinere Gerichte zu essen, lokale Biersorten und einen sehr guten Ebbelwoi. Darüber hinaus gibt es Kaffee und Kuchen. Sonntags wird gegrillt. Wir kommen gerne hierher und sind immer sehr zufrieden. Das Preis - Leistungsverhältnis ist angemessen; für Kinder gibt es einen kleinen Spielplatz.

Eines vorab: Die Lage ist absolut top und fantastisch. Das "Außenrum" ist richtig stimmig. Leider ist das Essen dann eher mittelprächtig und das Servicepersonal zum Teil richtig unfreundlich. Schade, denn man hat das Gefühl, dass dem Ort die Seele abhanden gekommen ist... Hat eher was von Massenabfertigung leider...

Schöner Ort zum Verweilen mit günstigem Essen und Getränken. Für Kinder sind ein Spielplatz und frei umher laufende Tiere ggf. interessant.

Netter Biergarten mit schönem Ambiente. Das Essen ist allerdings sehr einfach mit eher kleinen Portionen. Für ein gutes Bier empfehlenswert - leider nicht nicht für Essem. 5 Sterne fürs Bier; nur 2 fürs das Essen.

Schön gemütlich, unkompliziert. Grosse Auswahl an lokalen Biersorten und ein ausgezeichneter Äppelwoi. Die übersichtliche und bodenständige Speisekarte könnte aber ein bisschen mehr Innovation brauchen.

Ein sehr schönes Ambiente. Es sind genug Tische vorhanden, selbst bei größeren Gruppen. Man holt seine Getränke und Speisen am Ausschank. Das Team ist freundlich und die angebotenen Speisen sind lecker und preislich auch ok. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. 😉

Ein sehr schöner angelegter Biergarten, für uns der schönste der Umgebung Darmstadt-Dieburg, wir waren am Sonntag zum ersten Mal dort und waren begeistert. Die Preise für Getränke und Essen sind ok und haben geschmeckt. War nicht das letzte mal das wir dort waren!!

So schöner Biergarten mitten in der Natur, einfach traumhaft! Leckere "Snacks", kann auch die Feuerwurst und den Kartoffelsalat empfehlen. Mehr wird demnächst ausprobiert.
