Beautiful, the place is made for relaxation. I can only speak for myself and I think it is beautiful.

Portions are very manageable. Sorry, Odenwälder Frühstückkäse (Odenwald breakfast cheese) costs €9.50 and wasn't marinated for long, if at all! Update from September 15, 2024 Feuerwurst with fries €9.50 - ...The fries were the best! The sausage was almost inedible. It must have been in the broth for a while!

I was back after about 10 years. The weather was perfect, and the location was very inviting. Definitely worth a bike ride.

The ribs are superb and the Bauschebräu is among the best beers I’ve had. Prost!

The food is good quality, but the prices are a bit high. The ambiance is lovely, with a stream and free-roaming peacocks. Overall, the visit is worthwhile, even with children.

If you're looking for a bite to eat in a very pleasant setting, with plenty of greenery, small animal enclosures, free-roaming birds, and a children's playground, then this is the place for you. There are also many hiking trails here.

The beautifully situated beer garden was a lovely destination for many years. Today was our last visit, because what the owner is now doing is simply outrageous and a complete rip-off! We had to search for the hand cheese for €6 under the onions on our breakfast plate, along with a tiny slice of bread – the portion was pathetic! A "portion" of small, thin, and almost cold fries for €4.50, no thanks! And all of that at the takeaway counter, with no service. There are truly other places to go! Not recommended!

A beer garden with a very special atmosphere. We always enjoy coming here and often plan our cycling routes so that we can stop for a bit. The self-service is perfectly fine and uncomplicated for us. However, prices have risen significantly recently – and unfortunately, we feel that the quality hasn't quite kept pace with this increase. It's a shame, because the place itself is really beautiful.

Yes, it's on the edge of the forest, far enough out but not remote. Lots of animals and play areas. Family-friendly.

Beautiful place to linger, whether in the beer garden in summer or at the mulled wine hut in winter, with stick bread, mulled wine/warm apple juice and a fire. The family that runs the Forsthaus Kalkofen always puts a lot of effort into offering their customers a great ambience. We like to come here often! Always worth a visit!

Self-service and constantly rising prices: The Forsthaus was once a good, reasonably priced establishment where families enjoyed their meals. Unfortunately, that's now history.

The children are particularly interested in peacocks because of the playground and birds.

I was here for the first time today, and I spent this wonderful day with my wife. We were in this gorgeous beer garden. Simply wow. Great for nature lovers, cyclists, and even hikers. We'll be back 😊

A small oasis with animals, delicious cakes and drinks, and a selection of dishes. Don't expect Michelin-starred cuisine, but that's not what this place is about. It's more about a little escape from everyday life and the city. We enjoy coming here several times a season. I find the self-service convenient, and the people at the bar are all very friendly. It can get crowded on weekends and holidays.

Personally, I find this beer garden too hectic. Dogs aren't particularly welcome.

A long bike ride brought us here. A drink, a small meal, and a chance to admire the peacocks and the surroundings. It's a very beautiful and quiet location.

Nice restaurant but crowded on weekends

The food is terrible. The spare ribs were incredibly tough. But even worse: I don't understand how they can accept debit cards but not credit cards. I wouldn't go there again.

Great location and a very nice self-service restaurant (hence the 3 stars for service). Unfortunately, the food was not good. We had actually ordered Handläse, and that's usually made with Harzer cheese. I have no idea what kind of cheese they presented us as Handkäse, but it certainly wasn't tasty.

Absolutely brilliant! Sitting in the sun with a glass of homemade beer and lots of friendly people. The Kalkofen is the beer garden on the edge of the forest – everyone has to try it!

A hospitable stop for anyone who enjoys sitting outside. As far as I know, there's no dining room in the building. Spacious grounds with plenty of seating. During peak hours and when the weather's nice, it's very busy. You can wait a long time at the service counter to pick up food and drinks, so it's self-service. They serve Darmstadt Grohe beer.

I was a bit disappointed during the week I was there. The sausage with sauce was lukewarm to cold, the fries were good, the price was 10 euros, everyone should decide for themselves. Despite everything, a nice place to take a rest.

In our opinion, highly recommended. A great destination. Pleasant atmosphere at the edge of the forest. Delicious food, straight from the large charcoal grill in the yard. Incredibly fast, simple but completely sufficient and reasonably priced. Would love to come back here.

From a culinary point of view it was a disappointment. Snack food in better surroundings. The beef sausage is served boiled and not grilled like other meat products. All in all it wasn't worth the money. Only EC card payment possible.

Pure nature, very nice place for a break

Really very nice, there is always a spot available everywhere. Lots of umbrellas for shady spots. Free-roaming peacocks, playground for the kids. Supplementary 2025: Food is still delicious, prices have increased a bit. Small €3.50, large €5, cappuccino and cake €3 each. Unfortunately, Visa payment is not possible.

One of the most beautiful beer gardens!

Very pleasantly located on the edge of the forest. There are enough car and bicycle parking spaces available. If there weren't so many smokers, you would be able to enjoy the fresh air and your food. Nothing is impossible. EVERYONE around the world could see the corona measures. Eg: Smoking area exclusively above the toilets. The grounds themselves and the surrounding area are very well maintained and child-friendly. men and women Toilets exemplary. Prices for food and drinks are now adjusted to 60% inflation in the euro. Can be highly recommended. Above all, child-friendly and enough to see for the little ones. Or even on the playground.

We always like to go to the lime kiln to enjoy a delicious beer in beautiful surroundings. The only point of criticism: the prices are a bit too high in my opinion. Above all, the food would have to be better to justify the price.

Eat a delicious drink, drink something cold and continue on the bike

I ordered baked potatoes with tzatziki and got exactly (only) that. 3 small potatoes that were boiled and placed in foil and tzatziki next to them. A little “green stuff” certainly wouldn’t hurt. Since it is self-service, I rate the service neutrally. The ambience is nice, there are free-roaming animals/birds and it is very idyllic.

Very good food offer, very good conditions and a great ambience

The food is subpar, the food is served by very hard-working children, and the location is really nice. We only arrive here full. The food is ridiculously bad. Here even the last 11 cents are squeezed out and the cheapest bread in the world is served. The currywurst is prepared with spiced ketchup and the bratwurst greeted us briefly as it passed the grill. Audience and location are fine. There are tons of better alternatives with better connections.

It's a nice beer garden with typical beer garden dishes. Peacocks roam freely on the premises. The toilets are not the newest, but they are clean.

A beautiful, well-kept and spacious beer garden, with a playground, pond, small and large enclosures and many animals. It was my first time here and I felt very comfortable. The staff was quick, extremely friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was very nice. Only the prices of the dishes compared to the portion and size were too high in my opinion. I needed two dishes to fill me up and unfortunately it ended up being too expensive for me. Otherwise it is highly recommended, especially for families, cozy and quiet.

I have known the lime kiln since my youth. It is a great beer garden located on the edge of the forest, beautifully idyllic, with a pond, etc. But what I noticed yesterday for the first time was the overpriced prices. A bratwurst with fries €9.50, a meatball with tzatziki and a few manageable fries €16. Sorry, this is still self-service, this is a beer garden that really has the simplest cuisine. For €16 I can eat a decent meal with better quality in a normal restaurant and be served. At least I'll keep it that way next time, I'll happily go there for an Äppler, I'll eat at home first. My money is simply too good for that because the price-performance ratio is simply bad when it comes to food. The food there is okay, but definitely not worth the price. Yesterday, on a Thursday, there was almost nothing going on, with great weather.

Torn between reviews! Great, large beer garden and great beer on tap, on Sundays and public holidays even food straight from the swivel grill BUT very ambitious price levels for both drinks and especially for food, even with self-service.

Tsaziki and meatballs, consistent quality for years. Can't be done better. Prices absolutely moderate. A pleasure in all areas.

I've enjoyed coming here for years, but the quality of the food gets worse every year... rolls taste like they're 3 days old, fries taste like old fat... and then there's the price. The atmosphere is really nice but I won't eat here again.

The Kalkofen is a very nice beer garden. Idyllically located on the edge of the forest, you can expect typical beer garden cuisine. If you are in the area Alter Falls is worth a visit.

Eating was a disaster, we had 2 steaks, both of them tasted boring, neither coleslaw nor potato salad were edible, rolls from the freezer, grade 4-5 and that for 27 euros!!! Nice atmosphere, good for a beer, nothing more.

Nice place with great ambience. Unfortunately, the food is rather subpar for the prices. cold currywurst and rather bland. You can't go wrong with the drinks.

I can't rate the food, we just had something to drink after a long walk. Service - self-service. Very nicely located, you can go for a lovely walk and relax. Really recommended as a destination!
