Zom Stüffje in Cochem

We were there on December 5th, 2025 at 5:00 PM. We were the first customers and ordered goulash soup, meatloaf with fried potatoes, a pilsner, and a Coke. The pilsner I received was... well, bad. I told the waiter, "Ohhhh, that can't be right. We poured two large glasses, but we'll try it." "Yes, it tastes a bit different," he said, and opened another glass. The floor of the women's restroom was sticky. And the food arrived less than five minutes later. My wife had actually ordered goulash soup, but in our opinion, it was more like potato soup—more potatoes than meat. All in all, the food was terrible, and we'll never go back.

You absolutely have to make a reservation if you want to get a table. After a short wait, we got in. The food was delicious. The owner's chattiness and the topics he chooses take some getting used to.

It was like eating at our grandmother's table. It was delicious. I haven't eaten so well in a long time.

I'm vegan and I found other options to eat at this restaurant besides salad. It was really good. The food tasted great and the service was very friendly. If this restaurant were closer to me, I would definitely come back.

We arrived with two adults and one child. Reservations are definitely required, and we were fortunate to have made one because the restaurant was full. We were assigned a spot near the entrance, which was a bit drafty because the door kept opening and closing. We also noticed the hustle and bustle from the people (we think about 50 people were turned away to return after 6:00 PM) constantly coming in to grab a spot. This caused us (in our spot facing the door) to rush to eat to make room. The goulash soup was delicious and generous, and the main courses were also delicious. It seemed very busy to the host, but despite that, he remained hospitable and friendly.

We felt very comfortable and had a lovely evening. The service was incredibly kind, friendly, and welcoming! The food was also excellent! Highly recommended :) Very cozy atmosphere. We'll definitely be back :)

A small, cozy restaurant with very good food and friendly waiters. The prices are absolutely reasonable. You should expect a short wait – for us it was only 5 minutes, so perfectly fine. Highly recommended!

This place is highly, highly recommended! Both the food (which was delicious and flavorful) and the service were wonderful. The waiter who served us was very attentive and professional, as well as thoughtful and friendly. The restaurant is very welcoming and pleasant, with typical local decor. We had a very enjoyable time and would definitely return to this restaurant if we were to visit Cochem again.

A fantastic, charming little restaurant. The food was superb, as was the staff. We had a lot of laughs together and even got some great tips for the rest of the evening. We'd love to come back (next time with our motorcycles), and even during the week 😋 Definitely recommended.

We were here with 16 girlfriends and our Saturday evening at Zom Stöffje was perfect. The service was absolutely fantastic, we felt very welcome! They had also put a lot of thought into the appetizers and desserts we could share and even included a salad for everyone to enjoy. You can tell the staff is a SUPER team!

We just came back from beautiful Cochem. We had a family celebration with our mother who celebrated her 70th Birthday. We had a dinner with 5 Persons on a Saturday evening. The good thing was we made a reservation which i really can recommend! The place is on high demand. The owner and his staff were friendly and led us to our table. The meal offerings are a honest rustic German food which we like. The ambiance is really like traveling back in time which is nice! The service was quick and friendly and the food is nice! The schnitzel is fresh and not a ready frozen one which most of the restaurants using those days. The portions are big and price is really value for money! Our family was happy with the whole experience especially our mother which is the most important thing. We would highly recommend this town and restaurant! If we would come back to Cochem one day we would eat here again. The owner is friendly and tries his very best to make his guests happy so does his team which reflects a good spirit in this place. 👏

Dear Team, dear Owners, After a visit to the swimming pool, we ate at your restaurant with our two children. The restaurant was full, and we had to wait outside for a while. Since we were out with the children, they quickly made sure we got a table. The restaurant was so full simply because it's obviously popular. And that's perfectly understandable. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. What more could you ask for? In the end, the owner even took the time to chat with us briefly. Everyone worked together as a team. Keep up the good work! :-) We'll definitely be back!

We went there on a whim, got a table quickly, and were satisfied from the very first moment. Friendly, fast service, delicious food, fair prices. We'll gladly come back.

I originally reserved four seats by email a week in advance. However, this was declined with the polite explanation that they couldn't accept reservations due to high demand. So we arrived at the restaurant promptly at 5:00 PM and managed to snag four seats. The service was quick and polite despite the hustle and bustle, and they always had a joke ready. Our daughters wanted to share a meal, no problem, they offered a "bandit's plate" (a shared plate), free of charge – sadly, that's not always the case anymore. Very tasty, traditional German cuisine. We had Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), head cheese with remoulade, and the girls had a baked Stüffje's cream steak. When the girls ordered the warm chocolate cake without alcohol or cream, a second scoop of ice cream was promptly served. Excellent service, thank you. We'll gladly come again. Keep up the good work!

We ate there as a couple. The waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. The wine selection was also excellent. We especially liked the unique format/design of the menu. We had a wonderful evening and will gladly return.

We were in Cochem with our Vikings Schupbach group over the weekend, and we ended up at Stuffje for dinner (and drinks). A great restaurant with wonderful, very friendly, and attentive staff. Found it by chance… Amazing location, super delicious food, excellent schnapps, and the dessert (warm chocolate cake with hot rum cherries and cream) was a true revelation and a culinary delight of the highest order!! We were served by the owner (by chance) and received friendly, attentive, and warm service! Great restaurant for a sit-down meal. Delicious food and friendly, helpful service. We were lucky to get a table, but it gets very busy here on weekends. It's a good idea to make a reservation in advance.

So popular that there's a line outside the restaurant doorway. Luckily, I made a reservation! However, when I arrived, I had to wait another half hour. Because people were waiting in the doorway, you're constantly in the cold in the first part of the restaurant! So I'd suggest sitting a bit further away from the door! Due to the crowd, the service is anything but friendly. They're stressed and shouting at each other. Food: Schnitzels were inedible. Not crispy. The sauce they came with was weak (with several varieties). Baby food would have tasted even better on top. However, the meat dishes were excellent! Very tasty, even! The fries and Bratkartoffeln were also excellent! All in all, a somewhat disappointing experience if you read in advance that it was so busy. Maybe I went on the wrong night. But definitely not a next time for us!

The server isn't serving us; instead, they're constantly chatting with other customers while we've been waiting, thirsty and hungry, for over 30 minutes for them to take our order... This is unacceptable.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very friendly and quick despite the hustle and bustle. The restaurant is quaint, but apparently very popular, and therefore quite noisy. Unfortunately, reservations weren't possible, and you'll have to wait for a table. However, I'd gladly go back for the food and the friendly staff.

The fries were incredibly salty, the schnitzel nothing special. Fortunately, the atmosphere in the restaurant was good.

We arrived at the entrance at 5 p.m. sharp and got in quickly. The restaurant was full within a short time. We were served quickly, and the drinks and appetizers arrived very quickly. So far, a pretty good impression. Unfortunately, that was it. The goulash soup was cold, the tomato soup tasted more like instant soup. The bread with the cracklings was cheap from Netto. The main course: some of the meat was only lukewarm, and the fried potatoes were instant. The vegetables and the Béarnaise sauce also seemed to have just come out of a packet. No one asked if they were tasty. Only at the end did they ask how it was, to which we shared our experience and said we've had better meals. The waitress then became rude. She said she could only change things if we had spoken up directly, and she tried to defend herself. In the end, it looked as if it was our own fault that we didn't like it. After that, we weren't even looked at again. The supposed boss spoke to us about the incident while we were paying. He tried to mediate. No accommodations. No free schnapps or discount or anything else. Unfortunately, we can't understand the good reviews here at all. Addendum: Dear guests, based on the owner's replies, you can already see that his defensive attempts are well-rehearsed. There's a method to such an unprofessional way of getting out of this situation. It's a shame, no apology or accommodations. If the waitress was the boss, why did the waiter who opened the shop approach us again at the end and want to talk to her about her misconduct? If you're hungry, you eat, and not all the plates were empty. No matter, sometimes things just don't work out, but then the customer is king, and you try to make things right and not add to the cost at the end. If four people have the opportunity to review, then there will be four reviews. Everyone here was so upset that everyone wanted to write something.

Neat old building with authentic German food. They were aware of what gluten free was and offered suggestions which was really appreciated! My partner loved the schnitzel with mushrooms though I personally didn’t love my meat as it tasted similar to bologna which is just a personal preference. Really neat to try regionally authentic food nonetheless! Potatoes were delicious.

We were there one evening with two couples. We didn't have a reservation. But the host made everything possible. We had a wonderful evening with delicious wine, great food, and extremely pleasant conversations. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the warm hospitality of the host. 5 stars is unquestionable.

I can't rate the food at this establishment since we weren't able to eat there. We arrived at 5:30 p.m. and were second in line. We asked the waiter how long the wait would be, and he told us it was between 10 and 20 minutes... That's why we waited over 40 minutes, seeing the line get longer and longer without any information from the waiters... We finally learned that it was possible to make a reservation for this restaurant, seeing some customers pass us without knowing why. It would have been better if the waiter had given us this information!

A quaint, authentic restaurant in the heart of Cochem, somewhat tucked away in a small alley. Excellent value for money, good regional dishes at a fair price, and a well-organized host. It was only by chance that we managed to get a table for five people, although we were lucky to have a "birthday boy" with us.

This has nothing to do with cozy, delicious dining. We don't need that again. Canned coleslaw, undercooked fried potatoes, raw pork tenderloin.

Despite the huge number of guests, the staff did everything possible to find us a seat. The food was excellent and the wine was very tasty.

The service is a bit special in its style, a bit casual, a bit cool. Managing the line out front is also a challenge, no doubt. The dishes are delicious, and a visit is definitely worth it.

We had a reservation and arrived a little early. Unfortunately, our seats weren't available yet, and we had to take a walk around town. When we returned, the host recognized us immediately and immediately welcomed us in and showed us our seats. The welcome was super friendly, and we had a pleasant chat. The host always had a lighthearted joke; we liked his humor, and he kept us entertained. The food (farmer's schnitzel, etc.) and drinks (blanc de noir) arrived quickly and were very good. The evening was very pleasant; highly recommended. We'll definitely come back next time we're in Cochem.

A wonderful old, rustic building, with very relaxed and friendly service. The value for money is absolutely fine; we would (try) to go there again. The only downside is that it's a bit difficult to get there if you have limited mobility.

Traditional German restaurant serving hearty meals - my wife could not finish salad. My bratkartoffeln was the best I've eaten in Germany. Excellent service and good music too. Go early or book ahead to avoid waiting.

The conditions were certainly not easy. There was a burst water pipe that day, and it was a bit of a mess. Despite that, I managed to get a seat quickly, even without a reservation. However, I soon had to give it up to a larger group. The people at the new table next to me were quite loud. They didn't have the Federweißer I requested. And I would have preferred to do without the bacon in the fried potatoes. 5 stars anyway, why? Because after the various inconveniences, they gave me a glass of wine on the house. A+ with a star for the service, fantastic!

A very cozy restaurant, delicious bread and butter and even more delicious sausage. It's packed, so make a reservation! Very friendly staff, who are still on top of everything and get everything done quickly, but without being rushed.

We (two people) arrived at 5:00 PM without a reservation and were lucky to get a table. The atmosphere was pleasant. The service was friendly. The price/performance ratio was good. The food was also very good. The roulade is highly recommended.

We spontaneously visited on a Wednesday and were lucky to get a table. The friendly reception and service seated us at a table with nice people, and the time passed quickly as we exchanged experiences about the Moselle, and the food was on the table. I had the Frikadelle and my wife had the Leverkusen beer; both were perfect, and the wine was a delight.

We came with our 2 teenagers after a very wet and soggy day and they could find a table for us without a reservation despite being very full we were so grateful. The Flamkuchen was 🤌🏽🤌🏽 demolished in 2 mins flat and all the other food was hearty and yummy. Loved it thanks so much!

The food was delicious, although it was very busy, but they did their best to accommodate everyone. Sometimes we sat at tables with strangers. And despite the crowd, we received our food quickly. I understand that this is a popular restaurant, and the price-quality ratio is excellent.
