The food was delicious, and we were all full. The ambiance is beautiful, with a view of the Moselle. The service was super friendly. There's nothing more to say.

You can eat and drink well here.

The food was good and the portions were generous. The service was incredibly rude and even sullen. Everyone around us was talking about it, and I'm now reading about it in the reviews as well.

Good food, good selection, homemade lemonade very good! We drank a medium-dry Riesling "Kabinett," which was really good. With a few exceptions, it was the best wine we drank during our stay, and we stayed in the wine-growing village of "Ernst." Service was friendly.

If rude is what you like, you have come to the right place! Followed by the unwillingness to provide any service, this is their specialty!

For dinner: Sauerbraten – a minor disaster! Wild boar roast with red wine sauce, without red wine, well, at least the croquettes were decent. As the saying goes, hunger drives you in... With it, a Riesling that tastes of nothing and a rosé that tastes of even less. All in all, unfortunately, very disappointing!

It's a shame that such a beautiful house is ruined by bad food. The knuckle of pork was heated in a deep fryer, and the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were tasteless.

Good location and centrally located. The terrace has a good view. However, the food was not salted or seasoned well. The pork was a bit tough and difficult to cut. The chicken breast and turkey breast had a decent texture. A bit more cleanliness at the table would be advisable.

The review is from August 20th. The food was average—not bad, not great. We sat upstairs outside, and the waiter working there was a complete idiot! You never pay someone like that to serve. Upon entering, we were immediately told "cash only" without even saying hello. Never again!

Typical German cuisine of the highest quality! We deliberately chose the indoor area, as the terrace was completely full that day – which speaks volumes about the restaurant's popularity. Thanks to the open design and the connection to the terrace, it was pleasantly airy and not stuffy inside. What was particularly nice was that the terrace is covered with vines, which is a perfect fit for Cochem and creates a wonderful atmosphere. There's also another terrace upstairs with plenty of shade and a view of the old town – definitely worth a try. The food: absolutely top-notch! We had sauerbraten with red cabbage and dumplings (including the soup of the day – in our case, a hearty beef soup), veal liver with caramelized apples and onions on mashed potatoes, and the poultry grill with chicken and turkey steak, fries, and a side salad. Everything tasted perfect, the portions were large, and the value for money was excellent. A set menu including soup for around €22 is really hard to find these days. Service: Drinks arrived promptly, and the food was on the table quickly. Our waiter seemed a bit stressed that day, but that was understandable given the full house – so it was more like complaining at a high level. Restrooms were very clean. In conclusion: For anyone craving good German cuisine in Cochem – definitely go!

Bad food. The meat was rubbery and anything but fresh. The service was unfriendly and bad-tempered. Simply awful.

I asked if we could have a drink and some ice cream. I barely got a response from the waitress, who was clearly grumpy. The rest of the staff weren't exactly friendly either. The ice cream was fine, but the staff was awful.

The mushroom schnitzel was awful, the fried potatoes even worse, and the staff even less friendly. Choose a different restaurant!!!!!! LONG LIVE THE WINE TO FLUSH DOWN!

Overall, my visit to this restaurant was okay, but I can't really recommend it. The food was okay, but not particularly good—more something you'd order out of hunger than enjoyment. The service wasn't outstanding either and left a lot to be desired. The atmosphere in the restaurant was rather gloomy, which didn't exactly improve the overall impression. All in all, it was a passable visit, but I don't think I'll go back.

NOT A GREAT EXPERIENCE! The restaurant itself looks pleasant and has a nice atmosphere, but the way it is run shows little understanding of true hospitality. When we entered and greeted the staff, no one responded. In fact, we were ignored at first. When we asked for a table, a staff member simply pointed towards one, without a smile or any friendly interaction. The service continued in the same manner. The waiter placed menus on the table without saying a word, and while taking our order, his only response was a short “Bitte,” with no further conversation. The food was acceptable but nothing special. When my friend asked for mayonnaise, the only response was a gesture pointing to a container. During our meal, we saw kitchen and bar staff smoking in front of the restaurant, then returning immediately to their work. Our empty plates and glasses stayed on the table for more than 20 minutes, and no one asked if we wanted to order anything else. Overall, the experience felt focused on serving large numbers of tourists rather than offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The name “Old Cochem” suggests charm and tradition, but the service we experienced created an unpleasant and terrible feeling.

The service was fast, but the food was awful for the price. The schnitzel was among the worst I've ever eaten. My wife's salad was mediocre. It contained a lot of canned ingredients.

If I had read the negative one-star reviews beforehand, I wouldn't have gone to this restaurant in a really good location. The mushroom schnitzel was unfortunately completely overpriced at €20, as it was frozen. It was edible, but you'd expect better for the money. Drinks were equally overpriced at over €6 for a large spritzer, Coke, etc.! Our server served us friendly, though, so I can't say anything negative here. The atmosphere on the terrace is more like a very simple beer garden. I personally can't recommend the restaurant and therefore only give it one star. There are several other restaurants along the water where the food and service are significantly better.

Frying fat, the wrong wine and zero respect for craftsmanship.

Four of us were looking for a place to have dinner and stumbled upon Alt Cochem by chance. Upon arrival, we received a rather cool welcome. Our table was on the terrace, which immediately made a rather unkempt impression, as there were visibly many old leaves lying around. The surface of the assigned table was sticky. The service was incredibly unfriendly. Drinks had to be ordered within 1-2 minutes of arrival. The food also came very quickly. One member of the group was still unsure about the food; he was ignored, and the waiter left without a word with the others. After the food was served after about 10 minutes, a bleak culinary picture emerged. The tomato soup seemed like a convenience product; there was no taste of any fresh ingredients. The chicken steaks were unseasoned, cooked tough, and had a heavy layer of oil. The fries were cold and unsalted. The rump steak was also unseasoned and the meat quality was also disappointing. Additionally, two side salads were served—a combination of several salads that had no culinary connection and tasted like nothing. The food was definitely not edible. When the waiter came to clear the table, they asked "how did it taste?" The answers "so-so" and "not really" were met with a blank stare, no response, or reaction. Three main courses and one soup, including drinks, cost €99. In my opinion, this experience deserves a rating of unsatisfactory, or one star. The restaurant should rethink many aspects and make quality improvements.

Please note: Cash payments only! We were there with a group, and one person wanted to pay for everything together. We were shocked that card payments weren't possible. Luckily, someone in the group had a large amount of cash. The waiter was very rude when we asked for a receipt (he'd been before, too). The food was okay, though.

Delicious food, served quickly after ordering, so there was a short wait. Portions felt larger, but I was still full.

The meal was generally okay. I had a knuckle of pork with cabbage and mashed potatoes. My wife had the wild boar, which was very dry. But the biggest problem was the flies that kept settling on it during the meal. The waiter's reaction left a lot to be desired. He did nothing.

We stopped there for lunch on a Sunday. We received a friendly welcome. We ordered schnitzel and steak. Both were delicious. The fried potatoes were nice and crispy with plenty of onions. Truly delicious. The price/performance ratio was absolutely fine. I would definitely come back again.

We went there spontaneously to eat, but unfortunately, it was a mistake. I think the waitress knew the food was bad, and they didn't ask the obligatory question whether everything was OK.

We had mushroom schnitzel with fried potatoes and Wiener schnitzel with croquettes. The schnitzel was okay, but the sauce tasted of nothing, and the fried potatoes were a disaster. They had an incredibly pungent, musty fish flavor. The croquettes were very mushy inside. The service was very rude. All in all, I can't recommend this place at all. A waste of money.

Worse Experience eating here. Firstly the place was empty which should have been a big warning sign. The attitude of the staff is nothing short of rude to the point of embarrassing. Eye rolling, dirty looks and a total lack of customer service. Wish we had looked at reviews before entering, so do yourself a favour and give it a miss!

From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Requests were met with eye rolls, sighs, and outright dismissiveness. The attitude of the team was nothing short of hostile, no smiles, no courtesy, just cold indifference, It’s genuinely baffling how a place like this is still in business. Avoid this place at all costs unless you enjoy being treated like a nuisance and paying for the privilege.

We didn't eat there BUT there was a homeless person lying opposite and I wanted to buy this person something to eat. I asked the restaurant opposite if I could please have some pasta (I'll pay for it myself, of course) and a fork so that the man could eat the pasta and not have to eat with his fingers. I explained the situation to them and they said "no, we don't give this man cutlery" so 0.0000 stars for this place! Something so heartless deserves more than 0 stars! Of course I went out and kept looking and of course found a restaurant that gave me normal cutlery!

Awful service from start to finish, rude and condescending. The waiting staff and bar lady clearly did not like us, and even blamed us when they got one of our orders wrong. They turned off the lights and music while we were still finishing our food and made us feel generally very unwelcome. If you don’t want people in your restaurant, don’t open one!

There's not much to say. I don't go to a restaurant and spend money on that.

I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time. Soft drinks are unbelievably expensive; even in fine restaurants they are cheaper. The food was purely convenience and cheap, and far too expensive. The only tasty thing was the fried potatoes, the rest was unfortunately not at all good. The service was practically non-existent; no one asked if you liked the food or if you would like something to drink; they only did the bare minimum. Unfortunately, due to the location, there are enough guests, so improvements in service and quality are probably not of interest. Definitely not recommended; for those prices, you can go to really nice and delicious restaurants elsewhere.

A Coke for €6.50 is pretty tough... and then a ready-made schnitzel for almost €20, and the waiters come to your table with food in their mouths. You should know that.

There were lots of fluff on the beer foam, from somewhere. The "summer menu" includes "Oreo Cheesecake," which is NOT a piece of cake, but rather two Oreo cookies in whipped cream and chocolate sauce in a dessert glass. €7.50 for that. The staff couldn't even utter a single sentence. Good location, but not again.

Terrible food, microwaved pasta, dry preheated schnitzel, not recommended

Ordered food and drinks, and after waiting an hour, I finally asked where my food was; they'd forgotten to bring it through. The staff wasn't very friendly and seemed rushed, even though it was quiet. It's a shame, because it's a truly great location and has a pleasant terrace.

Unfortunately, it just looks like tradition. The tables are far too close together, and the sauerbraten is simply rubbish. I'd rather have the BoWu from the gas station. There's a snack bar across the street under the bridge. The food is delicious, the prices are fair, and the conversations are pleasant.

The place is not accessible for people with disabilities. Stairs at the entrance and for using the restroom (which weren't very clean). The food was good, but the staff was quite rude and made no effort to speak English. Being a tourist destination, a minimum of interest is expected. The menu is only available in German. The surprise at the end of the meal was when they told us they didn't accept credit cards, which wasn't indicated anywhere, neither at the entrance nor on the menu...

Only one star because it was the only restaurant we found in Cochem that served food after 9 p.m. Unfortunately, there were no vegetarian options—apart from salad, fries, and tomato soup. That's outdated. Furthermore, a third of the ordered dishes were simply forgotten. The fries arrived cold and without dip.

We ate there tonight. The patio looked cozy. The order was taken. The potatoes were brought, and the schnitzel was fried in stale grease. The mushroom sauce tasted bland, watery, and didn't look appetizing. For us, it was a one-time thing, never again!

The building / restaurant looks good and cozy. We went (after years) for a second chance .... but please do not expect anything special, the schnitzel comes from the fryer, the fried potatoes from the steamer. Most of it is already prepared, is heated up and no pan is used. To be honest, it is not bad but when we go out for dinner we expect it to be a bit better and especially in Germany. This is the type of restaurant to score as many diners as possible as quickly as possible. Next time we will look further ...

We ordered pike-perch fillet with buttered potatoes. The food looked very unappetizing. The dill sauce was simply awful. The atmosphere was unpleasant, especially on the terrace. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Not recommended! Unfortunately, we didn't check the reviews beforehand—otherwise, we could have avoided this visit. The ambiance with the wine arbor looks very inviting. Unfortunately, the food isn't good and is quite expensive. The schnitzel is very thick with little breading—probably a convenience store. The accompanying sauce is gray. The fried potatoes are too salty (and that's from someone who likes salty food). Soft drinks are also very expensive. Good service doesn't seem to be a priority either—a good location seems to be the reason this restaurant is worth it.

I would like to express my displeasure with my recent visit to your restaurant. I ordered a knuckle of pork, but shortly after it was served, the food was immediately infested with numerous flies. This was not only very unpleasant, but also extremely unhygienic. When I spoke to the waiter about it and asked to be seated at another table, I was extremely rudely told that this was "normal" for knuckle of pork. Unfortunately, there was no apology or any kind of accommodation from you. Instead, we were told to bring the food to the new table ourselves – no support from the staff, no understanding of the situation. Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable for a restaurant that should value guest satisfaction. I sincerely hope that you take this feedback seriously and ensure greater hygiene and friendlier service in the future.

We ate here. It was a nightmare. My husband had wild boar with ready-made dumplings and red cabbage. The meat tasted tough and the rest was also inedible because it was all from a packet. I had beef liver with mashed potatoes, which was even worse than my husband's meal. The mashed potatoes tasted of old oil, as if it had been mixed with oil instead of milk. I do not recommend this restaurant at all.

I never had a terrible experience like this before, the embarrassed a customer in front of other people/ in public . Really terrible experience... the staff is unpolite, just puts the menu food and drinks at your table while talking loud to other coworkers. In their own language so you probably cannot understand. An " enjoy your meal" or " how was your meal" I could have appreciated. No. I had read these reviews first. The worst ones are still valid.

German daily food, honest and tasty with fast, friendly service. Kitchen open continuously. Definitely recommended for a quick lunch! ☺️😋👍

It's a shame the kitchen didn't understand how to prepare a pork fillet. The piece of meat was so dry. The liver was another disaster, cold and with a strange consistency. But the highlight was the pepper sauce for the steak, a mush that was more suited to renovations. Even the waitress suggested it could have been something completely different.

This was my first time at this restaurant. I ordered the paprika schnitzel with fried potatoes. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes were only lukewarm and not crispy at all. The schnitzel didn't feel freshly prepared. My table neighbors were served cold fries and replaced with hot ones. Overall, it was okay, but this restaurant is out of the question for me on my next visit to Cochem.

The store thrives on its own thanks to its prime location. And that's exactly what you'll see in the service and the food.

Frozen food that doesn’t taste good.

Had problems finding somewhere as all restaurants seem to have very negative comments. SO came here especially for its location and was able to sit on the veranda. Can’t say the staff could have done more hence the 5 stars. Food/drink as we have come to expect. All are so much the same. Location Location is everything. Enjoy.

Despite the mixed reviews I tried it anyway. There was space upstairs and it was quite cosy. Friendly and quick service. The food was tasty but strange that the portions were quite different.

When paying, one 'waiter' asked for 20,- and the other for 10,-. Unfriendly. Cash only. Pin machine didn't work of course.

A very nice restaurant with a terrace, located in the city center. The service was quick and impersonal. Our salad (€17) was a disaster: ice-cold carrot and pepper pieces on enormous green lettuce leaves, with strips of the cheapest cooked ham and cheese. The highlight was the pre-made salad dressing, which tasted horribly of fish. Simply disgusting.

Good restaurant in the city center. I recommend the grilled plate and the chicken one, all freshly grilled. The staff is friendly and attentive. Reservations are recommended on weekends. The price/performance ratio is absolutely reasonable.

We are extremely disappointed with this restaurant. A typical tourist trap. The food is worse than you'd get at a takeaway. Not even the salad was tastefully prepared. The sauerbraten and red cabbage were simply reheated, and the sauce was artificial and tasteless. This has nothing to do with professional cooking. We strongly advise everyone not to go to this restaurant. The food isn't worth a single euro. The town of Cochem should take note, as there are several restaurant tourist traps in Cochem.

Very good service. My wife ordered my food while I went to park my car. The staff, seeing that I wasn't there, said they would bring my food out when I got back so it wouldn't get cold.🫠🫠🫠

We managed to get a nice spot on the crowded terrace at lunchtime on a perfectly normal weekday. The service was very quick and friendly. The food was delicious. The knuckle of pork was perfect and actually weighed about 1100g. It came with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut (€20.10). The beef liver with apple pieces, onions, and mashed potatoes (€17.90) was also a treat. Everything tasted wonderful, and we were very satisfied. We highly recommend this restaurant. The price/performance ratio is right.

It is my first time to complain a restaurant. Terrible service, terrible attitude. We came here cochem for relaxing holiday but end up having this bad experience (that’s really bad for this cute little town) Recommend you to get another restaurant for nice lunch/ dinner.

04/30/25 Dining on the terrace... The dishes were served just 5 minutes after we ordered!!! That's something to think about. Liver with mashed potatoes and onion/apple wedges, as well as sauerbraten with red cabbage and dumplings. Both dishes absolutely unsightly. The liver side dishes were braised too briefly, the sauerbraten was covered in thick black sauce, the red cabbage was overcooked to black. When it came to the complaint, the waiter didn't understand German. Not recommended...Don't do this to yourself!!!

Rarely seen such a bad restaurant. It was our first time on the Moselle and we found it very nice there, but unfortunately this restaurant ruined our afternoon. I had a beef steak with fried potatoes and my husband had a pork knuckle with ready-made mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The food was a disaster, I have never eaten such a bad piece of beef steak, hard to describe, it tasted like old beef and sour. The fried potatoes were cold and tasted that way. The pork knuckle was simply tasteless, ready-made mashed potatoes, the sauerkraut also tasted the same. It's a shame to sell something like that for so much money. We both let the plate go back. The only positive thing was that luckily we didn't have to pay for the food!!! Absolutely not recommended!

The food was absolutely tasteless. The fried potatoes have nothing to do with fried potatoes. They didn't see any salt. The schnitzel is very thick and the breading is very thin. The waiter doesn't move the chairs to the tables, but throws them against the table... it scared us a bit. Food looks quite good visually, but fails in terms of taste. Too bad.

Haxe was good. Sauce for roast wild boar very salty. Schnitzel tasted like frozen. This was our last attempt. It was very cold in the room. Some of the guests put on their jackets, or didn't take them off at all.

Had a place on the terrace on the first floor. The service was very friendly. Food came early and the quality was good. Not canteen-like like in other reviews. Couldn't complain about anything. The price/performance ratio was also good. O Was also well attended at our time.

Bad quality of dishes for high prices…

Wir hatten unseren Jahrestag und wollten gut Essen gehen. Dies Restaurant war für uns seit Jahren vom Essen her die größte Enttäuschung. Geschmack wie mit Fixtüten zubereitet oder gar kein Geschmack. Hin zu kam auch noch eine unfreundlich Bedienung. Nicht zu empfehlen.

A snack bar dressed like a restaurant. The food is like in any snack bar and the staff is so disgruntled that they should have been more careful at school if they are unhappy with their job. At least I can't recommend the fried potatoes under any circumstances, completely tasteless. So never again

2 Stückchen "Sauerbraten" in convenience Sauce ertränkt Rotkraut nicht mal lauwarm Tagessuppe (allein 6,10€) eine salzige Brühe mit Gemüseeinlage Klöße durchweicht und geschmacklich fade Und das als Menü für 23€? Der Service: Konversation sehr spärlich; dafür huschhusch, was das an den Tisch bringen und die Bezahlung angeht. Keine Nachfrage, ob noch etwas gewünscht wird, oder dergleichen. Insgesamt doch recht enttäuschend... Schade.

Went by in the afternoon to make a reservation for our group of 8 people. This was not necessary according to the very unfriendly waiter, because there is always room. When we go there in the evening, there is no room left. The unfriendly waiter claimed they don't take reservations. Unfortunately there was no food for us, so we had to look for something else for more than an hour.

First of all, I'm not one of those people who only complain and complain. I've never rated a restaurant trip before (and it wasn't as necessary as this time). I know tastes are different but anyone who writes something positive here has never eaten well. I leave out the ambience, the service, etc., everything is described correctly beforehand. Failure to the power of 3. The food; the soup, frozen carrots and beans bathed in hot water. No spices, no broth just tasteless water. The turkey leg was dry, not seasoned, probably bought for Christmas 3 years ago. Dumplings from the package with no consistency or taste. "The best comes last" Sauerbraten Tod braised with a pseudo-sauce that only tastes like vinegar. This gives you an acute stomach upset. You can imagine; Motor oil after 20 thousand km (I speak from experience), smells and looks better than the indefinable substance on the plate. Unfortunately I have to give one star, not deserved.
