The worst meal ever. The meat was gray and reheated, the rice had a strange taste, never again. Absolutely awful, the best thing was the eucalyptus candy at the end to compensate for the bad taste.

Visually not at all inviting, the food is good but quite expensive.

I don't know where my review, which I wrote back on September 1st, went. Here's a quick summary of what I remember: We were there for lunch, for the lunch menu. The food wasn't bad, but the portions were really small. The service was cool and matter-of-fact, but not empathetic or friendly. The prices in the restaurant seemed high to us and didn't really match the advertising on the outside. Compared to other reviews on Google ("...best Chinese in the whole of North...", etc.), we can only say: Average, but nothing more.

For years, Restaurant Xiao was our first stop for lunch when we were in the Heiligenhafen area. This has now changed! On our last two visits, we didn't recognize the restaurant. The food is bland. The once-popular half duck and chicken tasted as if they had been hastily purchased on sale at ALDI, and the sauce and side dishes seemed carelessly thrown together. My personal highlight was the jelly-like lumps in the appetizer soup and my sweet and sour sauce. I've always really liked the interior design. I liked the coastal-inspired fish theme, and the partition walls create sort of private areas for guests. But they should clean every now and then... Everything was absolutely filthy. I discovered cobwebs in the restrooms, and as far as I know, they don't appear overnight. It's a good thing you can't see into the kitchen. The absolute highlight, however, was the owner. We had a guy with us who wore glasses, and the dimmed lighting—presumably to reduce electricity costs—posed a challenge when studying the menu. She countered a hint of this by fetching a work light and shining it on the menu. That wasn't original, that wasn't funny, that was just plain cheeky. On a return visit—my last chance—nothing changed. Too bad, but that's a closed chapter. I hope this review will be of some use to someone!

Very authentic Chinese restaurant – highly recommended! A genuine family restaurant with authentic Chinese home cooking – something you rarely find, especially not in Heiligenhafen! From the outside, it looks rather unassuming, but the food is simply fantastic. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and authentic – like a culinary journey to China. The service is friendly, warm, and attentive. If you enjoy Chinese food, you should definitely visit this restaurant. A real surprise and a true insider tip!

We've been driving past on vacation for almost 15 years and—for whatever reason—haven't stopped. Today we were annoyed that we hadn't eaten there sooner. Fantastic food, great decor, and what we liked best: the hosts are a family! The father cooks, and the mother and children work in the restaurant. You can tell that they put their heart and soul into their food. From now on, it's on my bucket list for every vacation here! There were four of us there, and everything was perfect. The food was delicious, and the service was also great! We were able to bring our dog in without any problems; he even got a bowl of water right away! We'll be back!

During our vacation in Heiligenhafen, we ate at Xiao today. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look very inviting and almost unassuming... Inside, however, the restaurant has a typically Chinese decor, is very cozy, and... very clean 👍 The service was friendly and attentive. The food, here at No. 67, was absolutely amazing and extremely delicious 🌷It was perfect all around 🤩 Thank you so much! We give it 10 stars...

I can recommend this restaurant with a clear conscience because it's simply excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is very good. If you order crispy duck or chicken and get it, that's a great thing, because that's not the case everywhere. The dishes are freshly prepared, which contributes to a bit of a wait. I prefer to wait a little longer, knowing that it's freshly prepared.

Unfortunately, it has declined significantly in recent years. It's a shame. It used to be number 1.

Anyone who likes Asian cuisine should feel at home here.

The host family was very friendly. We were seated immediately, even without a reservation, and served quickly. The food was delicious. To finish off, we were treated to a homemade "Muttischnaps" (Muttisch schnapps) on the house. Highly recommended!

We've been here twice now and really enjoyed it. The food is really delicious, one of the best Asian restaurants we have eaten at in Germany. The service is nice. The prices for a duck dish are higher than in other restaurants but you also get much better quality here. Otherwise the prices are completely right.

For more than 30 years I have always driven past this restaurant when we wanted to eat something in Heiligenhafen. We either went to the Pizzaria Osteria Rustika, Tamatsu, or the Greek Orfeo. Xiao doesn't look inviting, but the first time I ate there I absolutely loved it! Very tasty Chinese cuisine. The furnishings are typical and absolutely recommended!! I missed a very good Chinese restaurant for 30 years...!!!

I ate here with my parents 30 years ago. Was here again after a long time and the memory came back immediately. The Peking soup is one of the tastiest I have ever eaten, and the other two dishes also met my/our taste exactly. If you're looking for a classic Chinese restaurant, you've definitely come to the right place. The prices are reasonable and even very cheap for lunch. It's not a snack bar and anyone who wants to eat duck for 10 euros may have the wrong idea about quality and should go somewhere else. In any case, I'm looking forward to the next time, and not in 30 years.

The food was tasty but much too expensive, the restaurant was empty, no guests and the chairs were leaning against the tables outside when the weather was nice. When we said that we would like to sit outside, the boss said: "I'd rather be inside otherwise I'll have to spend so much work and clean everything," by which he meant wiping the tables outside, they'd rather go to the competition

We visited this restaurant for the first time this holiday and were very satisfied. The service was excellent and the food was fresh and tasty. What particularly caught our attention was the owners' daughter, who works in the family business. She was extremely friendly and even took the time (despite the full restaurant) to teach our daughter how to eat with chopsticks (she really wanted to learn). She was also super nice to other children and, for example, counted the fish in the pool in the entrance area with them. Unfortunately, such child-friendliness is no longer a given everywhere these days 👌 We'll definitely be back next year 😊

Went for lunch as a couple today, August 16, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. We were served quickly and friendly. The two meals, one of them baked chicken, were just average. The breading was noticeably pale and not particularly crispy. Overall we were a bit disappointed. The Peking soup was also too sour. Even though we're leaving tomorrow, we wouldn't be coming back anytime soon. What was also striking was that if you changed the side dish from rice to pasta, fries or fried rice, you would be charged FIVE euros, which is simply too expensive. If you came here with 2 - 3 children, you would spend 10 to 15 euros just for changing side dishes.

The food was really very good and I'm looking forward to next time.

The small family-run Asian restaurant Xiao is a little out of the way. We have been vacationing in the area for years and have been here several times. After reading the bad reviews we wanted to see for ourselves. First of all: the food is still very tasty. Nothing ready-made, everything fresh and prepared with love. Still, it happened surprisingly quickly. 2. I also cannot confirm the allegedly excessive prices. We paid €112 for 3 adults and 3 children today. For 5 starters, 3 main courses and 3 children's dishes and 2 large and 4 small drinks. So expensive is different in my opinion. If you want to eat duck, you have to pay for duck. 3. The service was, as in previous years, very courteous and friendly. Our conclusion: food delicious, prices reasonable, service excellent. We will definitely come back and would recommend Restaurant Xiao at any time.

We ate there with our daughter yesterday, August 7th, 2024, on our wedding anniversary. The restaurant is decorated like most Chinese restaurants and offers a nice Asian atmosphere. The orders were taken quickly by the very courteous staff and brought to the table quickly. Both the starters and the main courses were of high quality and simply delicious. The prices are appropriate for the quality of the food.

Kurzfristig reserviert und sehr gut gegessen. Leckere krosse Ente, Curryhuhn, Rindfleisch, 2x gebratenes Schweinefleisch und für unsere vegane tochter leckeres Brokkoli Gemüse. Alle Gerichte schön angerichtet und sehr lecker! Der Service (Family) total aufmerksam und freundlich. Vielen dank und wir kommen nächstes Jahr wieder.

We always went there when we were nearby, but definitely not anymore. My beef meal was good but more expensive than anywhere else. My partner wanted something with duck, but not a duck dish under 26 euros, as she didn't want to have it on principle. Then she took something with chicken, which didn't taste great. Conclusion: We eat out a lot of Asian food but nowhere else has it been as expensive as here and we are simply not prepared to pay that. We know of many examples that offer a great meal for a real price and where the food is fresh and prepared in-house. Then good luck with your concept, but now without us. Bye

We have been to this restaurant for a long time and were very shocked today. There were no tables outside in this beautiful weather prepared. In the restaurant itself there were only 2 tables occupied. When we got the card we were amazed at the prices being way too high. Duck not less than 26€ Other dishes all around €20. Holiday area or not... the restaurant will not survive

We have been coming for many, many years and are always thrilled by the family atmosphere that we are treated to... the food was delicious... from the homemade spring rolls to the crispy duck chop suey... there is always time for a little in between Chatting 🙏and laughing... Fresh vegetables, good ingredients, excellent taste! The entire family works in the restaurant and was consistently friendly, flexible and absolutely accommodating!! Very good quality and tasty food, very friendly service by a multi-generational team and a cozy atmosphere. We've really enjoyed staying here so far, but unfortunately the prices have risen quite a bit and the portions have become smaller. Fried noodles or fried rice now cost €5 extra. Unfortunately this is too expensive for us.

Nice atmosphere, service took longer even though there wasn't much going on. The food was very expensive, but I guess in the holiday area you can take as much as possible. Not recommended for me.

Big disappointment after reopening in March 2024... With all due understanding for increased costs, the price of 17 euros for, for example, fried noodles with duck strips, which you had to look for, is completely unreasonable. You couldn't say that the dish was tasty either, the display was careless...the buffet was probably canceled last year and is currently not available to choose from. Unfortunately no recommendation for a visit.

We discovered Xiao while on vacation last year and after our first visit it was clear that it wouldn't be the first and last time we'd come back. We have been there four times now and have always been very satisfied! What others call kitsch is just the decoration that was available in Chinese restaurants back then! Today some Chinese belong to chains and are therefore stylish system caterers. So it's a matter of taste whether you find it beautiful or kitschy. We found it quaint and cozy. The food is pleasantly seasoned and the vegetables still have the desired bite. The service is second to none because it is still of the old style. We were always warmly welcomed and given good advice. Therefore: full marks. And at this point: Thank you for the successful evenings.

Sehr leckeres Essen was sein Preis Wert war, die Eigentümer sind sehr freundlich und man fühlt sich gut aufgehoben. Das Essen kam auf Warmhalteplatten, damit man bis zum Schluss warmes Essen hat, sehr gut. Ich hatte knuspriges Hähnchen mit Reis, meine Freundin ebenfalls. Werden definitiv wieder hingehen, sobald es uns wieder nach Heiligenhafen verschlägt.

Sehr netter Service, das Essen war richtig lecker. Wan-tan gebacken ist sehr zu empfehlen und die Ente war schön kross. Wir hatten einen schönen Abend und kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Ich schreibe selten Rezensionen, aber hier muss es einfach mal sein. Wir waren jetzt öfters vor Ort Essen. Und jedes mal war es sehr sehr lecker. Der/Die Koch/e wissen wie man leckeres Essen zubereitet und Serviert. Jedes mal wenn wir da waren, waren die Teller immer Leer. Als Vorspeise Empfehle ich jedem die Gebackenen Wan-Tan. Der Service ist auch immer sehr lieb und freundlich. Und die klein Cocktails zum schluss, sind ebenso echt köstlich :P Wir kommen immer wieder gerne vorbei Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Die mit den 2 Hunden :)

Krosse ente mit Nudeln für 27€ Ich musste erstmal schlucken bei den Preisen aber es ist wirklich ein besonderes Erlebnis diese knusperente. Ich hatte Erdnuss sauce dazu, und das war leider ein fehler. Die sauce hatte ihre Bindung verloren und war ein krissliger Haufen Fett und dadurch nicht sehr appetitlich. Schade denn dies hat das Erlebnis getrübt.

Sehr leckere Gerichte und sehr freundliches Personal. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wenn es uns nochmal nach Heiligenhafen verschlagen sollte, werden wir hier definitiv wieder einkehren.

Das Essen ist sehr gut, die Bedinnung freundlich. Die Räumlichkeiten finde ich zu dunkel. WC sauber.

Wie immer fühlt man sich wie bei guten Bekannten. Essen schmeckt ausgezeichnet.

Hatten Stammgericht - 364 (gebackenes Hühnerfleisch ) und 368 (Hühnerfleisch acht Kostbarkeiten ), die Suppe war sehr lecker, doch die Stammgerichte nicht . Wenig Gemüse ,die Soßen sehr dünn und bei 368 waren Garnelen mit drauf ,stand aber nicht dabei ! Ich mag keine Garnelen . Waren Enttäuscht 😞 Wegen der Suppe 3 Sterne fürs Essen.

Trotzdem schon fast geschlossen war wurden wir noch äußerst freundlich bedient und das Essen war sehr lecker.
