Zenzakan in Frankfurt am Main

The lamb was cooked to perfection, which should be a given at this price point. We also ordered a Wagyu toast, which was served cut into four pieces. Unfortunately, one of these pieces was completely inedible, consisting almost entirely of gristle instead of meat – and this for such an expensive product! The restaurant's handling of this situation was particularly disappointing: Although a single piece of this toast costs around €25, and we paid almost €100 for the sandwich, the restaurant refused to provide our friend with a new, edible piece. We considered this appalling service. At these prices, it should be a given that every piece served is edible. The ambiance was generally very pleasant, and the service itself was friendly and attentive. Nevertheless, the entire impression was severely marred by the handling of the Wagyu steak. All in all, this experience was a complete disappointment. Overall, we feel the price-performance ratio is not acceptable. At these prices, we expect not only good quality but also a professional and accommodating approach to legitimate criticism. Unfortunately, these expectations were not met.

Unfortunately, it's not at all modern or cosmopolitan. The food is okay, but far too expensive for the quality. The overall atmosphere is very stuffy and uptight. Compared internationally, it's just a standard restaurant.

We dined at Zenzakan in Frankfurt and were able to easily make a reservation through their website. We were immediately impressed upon entering the restaurant: the ambiance is truly unique and very stylish – a real visual highlight. Initially, the service was good, and the food we received was delicious. Unfortunately, orders were taken incorrectly later in the evening, leading to a major disappointment: we arrived at the restaurant around 10:00 PM and were eager to try the lamb chop. Due to the incorrect order, it was no longer available later (around 10:45 PM) because it was sold out. It was also a shame that no one offered any compensation. Overall, despite the excellent food and great atmosphere, our service experience fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, perhaps it was just an unlucky day – we would probably give Zenzakan another chance.

The staff seemed very unfriendly. The blonde woman at reception, in particular, was condescending and arrogant. There was no greeting.

This evening was our first time at Zenzakan, and we absolutely loved it. Everyone—from the lady at the coat check to Mark, who showed us to our table, Kim, who served us, to the woman who cleaned the restrooms—was incredibly attentive and friendly. The venue is exceptionally stylish, and the food was outstanding. The Wagyu sandwiches and lamb chops more than lived up to their reputation, the wasabi fries were sophisticated, and the sesame broccoli was also delicious. Unfortunately, we couldn't try the spinach salad because they were out. Lacking another vegetarian main course, I opted for the red Thai curry without the lobster tail, which was also tasty. The matcha tiramisu provided a delightful finale. We drove 140 km (one way) for this, and every kilometer was worth it—it was a truly special evening.

Unfortunately, very disappointing… I'll keep it short and sweet (the worst part was the Wagyu toast for €100 -> see picture). Appetizers: Wagyu Gyoza – 7/10 The Wagyu filling basically just tastes like regular ground beef. The dipping sauce is okay, but soy-based. Sushi Tempura – 7/10 Good, but nothing special flavor-wise. Tastes like regular sushi that you can get elsewhere for around €10. Main Courses: Wagyu Toast – 1/10 I've never in my life eaten such tough and gristly meat. The thick soy sauce is good in principle, but far too sweet (see picture). Ox Rib – 5/10 The meat itself was tender, but the sauce it was in tasted far too strongly of wine and was therefore not for me. Chicken dish with rice – 3/10 The chicken had a very strange, strongly animal-like taste. The rice was perfectly fine, hence the 3 points. Lamb chops – 8/10 Very tender for lamb chops. Ordered medium and received medium, no gristle and a good grilled flavor. However, I've had better in Greece for less than half the price. The sauce is the same as with the Wagyu toast and, in my opinion, also too sweet. This overpowers the natural flavor of the meat, leaving it tasting only of sweet soy sauce. PS: I complained about the Wagyu and unfortunately didn't receive a replacement – ​​unbelievable. We just quickly paid and wanted to get out of the restaurant. For the effort of traveling there and considering the restaurant's reputation, we expected significantly more. A shame.

We traveled all the way from Stuttgart specifically for the Wagyu toast and the lamb chops. The Wagyu toast tasted good, but realistically, each piece was barely enough for two bites. The toast cost €100 for four pieces, which works out to €25 per piece. A friend's piece was almost entirely gristle – even if he'd eaten it alone, €25 would have gone to waste. The only response was that it was a natural product and nothing could be done about it. Perhaps, but a five-star restaurant should offer some leniency in such cases. Instead, we were offered only dessert, even though we were there for the Wagyu toast. We also had a ribeye steak. The meat was cooked to perfection, but the sauce was too bitter for my taste. Frankly, I expect perfectly cooked meat at this price point. The lamb was also tasty, but in my opinion, it didn't justify the high price. All in all, unfortunately, not a good experience.

A beautiful and unique atmosphere in Frankfurt. Service was friendly and efficient, but the receptionist seemed overwhelmed despite the restaurant not being very busy. The food was delicious, and the portions were surprisingly large and filling!

My brother invited me to Zenzakan in Frankfurt for my birthday. He had called ahead specifically to inquire about gluten-free options. He was told that many dishes could be prepared gluten-free. However, when we arrived, it turned out that the selection was considerably more limited. According to the server, some dishes used to be available gluten-free, but this is no longer possible. In the end, only one sushi dish and two main courses without sauce were available gluten-free. The main problem with most of the dishes was the soy sauce in the sauces, which is not gluten-free. Many dishes also couldn't be adapted because they are pre-prepared and can't be made fresh in the evening. I find this a bit disappointing at this price point. On a positive note, I was given extra gluten-free soy sauce with my sushi, which was a really thoughtful touch. The dishes I was able to eat, however, were extremely delicious and of very high quality. The ambiance is stylish and very pleasant, and the service was consistently excellent – ​​very friendly, attentive, and professional. Overall, a great restaurant with outstanding service and superb cuisine, although the gluten-free selection could currently be improved.

You can eat here for €30 per person, but also for €300. No matter what we ordered, we really enjoyed it. Our favorite was the wonton.

I found that the food was not worth its price. The lamb chops was very tender but with a lack of flavour. The service was very kind and friendly but we had to wait for half an hour for our waitress to ask for our orders. In conclusion Zenzakan is high mid class.

We had a truly perfect evening at Zenzakan. The service was exceptional from beginning to end: the welcome, the taking of our coats, and the entire table service were extremely friendly, attentive, and courteous – present without ever being intrusive. The food was an absolute highlight. From the appetizer to the main course to the dessert, everything tasted absolutely perfect. We have never experienced such exceptionally good food of this quality – truly incredibly delicious. Some reviews describe the restaurant as expensive, but we can't confirm that. Of course, it's not an everyday restaurant, but the prices are absolutely justified and very well proportionate to the quality, the service, and the overall experience. The wait times were also pleasantly short; everything arrived quickly and at perfect time. We will definitely be back and can wholeheartedly recommend Zenzakan.

For that kind of price-performance ratio, I expect them to answer the phone. When I expressed this to the staff, I was met with a smirk and the response: "We don't offer that." It's a shame. Sometimes it's the little things that make the difference between a success and a failure.

If I could, I'd give it -5 stars. The food is vastly overrated. The service is a complete disaster. After you've finished eating, they stop serving you. If you ask for service, they make you wait for half an hour. If you complain or give feedback about something that didn't go well, they call you a liar and yell at you. Never again! On our way through Frankfurt, we saw that we were passing through the city. So we thought we'd make a stop and visit ZenZakan, the restaurant known from TikTok and Instagram. We tried to reserve a table online for 10 p.m., but they were completely booked. So I just called. The person on the phone said, "I'm sorry, we don't have a single table available. We're basically fully booked in December." We were then recommended the IVORY Club. When we arrived, we asked the receptionist if there might be a table available downstairs at ZenZakan. Her answer: "Try your luck." We went downstairs and, funnily enough, about 30% of the tables were empty. So much for "We're basically fully booked in December." We did get a table right away. A few dishes were really good, for example, the lamb ribs and the beef ribs. But the sushi was a disaster. I hate to say it, but for the first time in my life, I was disgusted by sushi. If this had been my first time ever eating sushi, I would never have touched it again. In my opinion, the prices are not justified for what is served. The service was extremely slow: We had already paid and had to wait 20 minutes for the bill. No apology, no espresso, nothing at all. I think it's a shame that they try to artificially hype up a restaurant with supposedly fully booked days, even though there are clearly free tables available. On top of that, the staff is arrogant and the food is only mediocre. The location is great, but overall, they're selling a hype that the restaurant doesn't live up to.

That was the intention, but unfortunately, the execution was lacking. For prices comparable to those charged in Michelin-starred restaurants, I expect more. The ingredients were of good quality, but unfortunately, they were used in dishes that you can get at a good Asian restaurant around the corner for an eighth of the price. Restaurants in this price range are usually characterized by exceptional finesse, which was sorely lacking here. My four-year-old son spent almost €70 on food and drinks 🫨 The service had absolutely no idea which wines were available by the glass; again, I expect better service for the price. But everyone was friendly! All in all, we were really disappointed.

I visited Zenzakan for the first time 10 days ago. The interior is quite large, the decor a bit kitschy for my taste and for the price range, but that's purely subjective. The sushi we had was decent and good, but certainly not the best I've ever eaten and completely overpriced. Unfortunately, I couldn't try anything else because I have a gluten intolerance. The service was extremely unprofessional and rude about this; they weren't able to offer me an alternative. But what I find worst of all is the fact that the manager still hasn't responded to my email pointing out the impertinent behavior of the staff. That's absolutely unacceptable. I obviously won't be visiting Zenzakan again and would advise anyone with an intolerance to avoid it.

We went yesterday to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The food was ok, but the experience was terrible because of the floor manager. After politely asking if we could change tables, the waitress passed on our request, and the manager reacted with an arrogant and rude attitude, even making unpleasant comments about our table that we could clearly hear. Such behavior is unacceptable and completely ruins the atmosphere. It’s a shame, because the food was great — but with such disrespectful management, I won’t be coming back.

We've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. The ambiance is excellent, tastefully sophisticated, making Zenzakan ideal for both a special private occasion and a business dinner. The lamp at the table allowed me to read the menu, something I wouldn't have been able to do without, given my slight long-sightedness. Starters, main courses, desserts, and wine were all of good quality and very tasty. My request for a quiet table at the edge of the restaurant was honored when making the reservation. This made us feel more than comfortable. The service was unobtrusive, yet always present. It's in keeping with the upscale standards. However, I have to criticize the prices for a bottle of mineral water and fries: just under €10 for the water isn't necessary, and a small portion of average fries (albeit with wasabi oil) for €9 is definitely excessive, especially since the small pots of mayo are charged extra (€6 with truffle, otherwise €3). In my opinion, there should be at least one main course on the menu for vegetarians; vegans won't find anything to suit them (unless they're just looking for side dishes). For this reason, I deducted a point for the food. These days, that shouldn't really be an issue. The overall concept was still more than convincing, and I would definitely eat there again if the occasion was right.

He's unpleasant, arrogant, and completely out of place for such a high-quality restaurant. Today, as usual, I wanted to enter through the Ivory entrance, but he seriously told me to walk around the outside because apparently you're not allowed through the entrance on weekends, which is complete nonsense! I know the place; that's simply not true. And as if that weren't enough, he sometimes wants you to walk with him to the parking garage to pick up your car yourself, just because he apparently doesn't feel like driving around. Honestly, why am I paying €5 for valet parking if I end up having to walk myself? It's a real shame, because the restaurant itself is fantastic, but this guy ruins the first impression every time. At a place of this caliber, you expect professionalism, friendliness, and class, not arrogance and laziness.

This is our first time here, we came in and our jackets were taken away straight away. It's a really cool restaurant with great staff. It looks great in the dark and the food is amazing, I don't even need to talk about it. It's fantastic, I've never had sushi this good.

We spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Zenzakan on Friday. The ambiance is stylish and impressive, and the service is professional yet warmly attentive. The cuisine deserves special mention: every dish was perfectly balanced in flavor and of first-class quality. You can tell the chefs here are cooking at the highest level. For years, the restaurant has impressed with consistently outstanding service and, in my opinion, is one of the absolute top addresses in Frankfurt's gastronomy. The excellent selection of wines and cocktails also perfectly rounds off the culinary experience. A visit to Zenzakan is always a highlight – highly recommended!

The food itself is really good, but it's estimated to be 80% meat and 20% vegetables. It seemed to me like you were trying to stretch the food with more and more peppers to make it a full plate. And the employee who assigns the tables is unfortunately rude. Anyone who doesn't want to deal with customer service should find another job. Ideally, someone with appropriate training should be hired for this position!

We had reserved a table for a group of four weeks ago and were actually looking forward to a pleasant evening. Unfortunately, it began with the most unprofessional and rude reception I've ever experienced in a restaurant. I arrived first and was asked by a friendly lady at the entrance to take a seat at a table right by the bar to wait for my group. Seconds later, the rest of us arrived – and we were immediately approached by a woman with black hair and a black suit who was obviously in charge of the organization. Her tone was condescending from the start: She repeatedly asked me aggressively who "had even put me in that seat," as if I had just sat there arrogantly. Even though I explained to her that the lady at the front desk had seated me there and had even brought me a menu, she continued to react with complete disbelief and anger. I didn't want to criticize the receptionist in this situation, as her supervisor was obviously very upset – but this kind of treatment of guests is absolutely unacceptable. Additionally, she asked me in an annoyed and rude tone, "Did you even make a reservation?!" – and even after we confirmed it, she checked our reservation in a decidedly arrogant manner. Finally, she came back, reprimanded me as if I had misbehaved, and made it clear to us that we would have to settle for the seat right by the bar and the entrance door. I eat out very often – from small snack bars to highly regarded, renowned restaurants – and I know how to behave. However, never in my life have I been greeted with such an incredibly condescending and rude attitude. It's a shame, because the food itself is truly excellent (albeit a bit overpriced, in my opinion), and another server – a very friendly lady who looked after us attentively throughout the entire evening – did a fantastic job. Her service was impeccable!!! But: The disastrous reception unfortunately cast a lasting shadow over the evening. Good food and friendly service can't compensate for such a start. For what you pay here, you'll not only get better value for money at other locations in Frankfurt, but above all, much more respectful and professional service. The food and atmosphere at Zenzakan are excellent. The sushi is a bit "westernized" than traditional, but still very enjoyable. Overall, everything tastes fantastic and the quality is outstanding. Prices can be on the higher side, but they match the level of experience and attention to detail. A great place for a special night out in Frankfurt!

We drove all the way from Nuremberg to Zenzakan for a birthday – it was worth it. A young gentleman served us – super friendly, very attentive. Recommend: Lamb's lettuce with truffle, tuna tartare. Meat platter for two, with lamb chop, Wagyu…

Special and very tasty. But it also comes at a price.

Dining at Zenzakan in Frankfurt was an exceptional experience from beginning to end. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between stylish and vibrant, creating an ideal setting for an evening of fine dining. We enjoyed a wide selection of dishes from sushi and carpaccio to the Wagyu Katsu Sando, short rib, duck, and lamb. Each plate was beautifully presented and rich in flavor. The sushi was fresh and refined, the carpaccio tender and delicately seasoned, while the Wagyu Katsu Sando stood out as a true highlight juicy, rich, and melt in the mouth delicious. The short rib was slow cooked to perfection with deep, savory notes. Both the lamb and the duck impressed with their tenderness the lamb especially delicate, and the duck a delight to wrap in pancakes, turning each roll into a small celebration at the table. The service was attentive, professional, and welcoming, enhancing the overall dining experience. Combined with the sophisticated yet lively atmosphere, Zenzakan clearly ranks among Frankfurt’s top destinations for a memorable night out. Highly recommended

We ate superb sushi. The ambiance was first-class, and I've never had such high-quality and delicious sushi anywhere else. I would definitely recommend it. We were there in a group of five. I would reserve a table on weekends just to be on the safe side.

Eating there is an experience in itself, and the food is mostly very good! Unfortunately, I do have a few criticisms: There aren't really any vegetarian options, especially for the main courses. In my opinion, that's outdated. And I had also announced this beforehand... After the sushi and dessert were served so extravagantly, I honestly would have expected the same for the grill platter for €140 for two. It was beautifully served with some vegetables and fries. Instead, every side dish had to be ordered separately. The service staff also seems to have received at least no traditional training, as everything was served haphazardly across the table. It's not a big deal, but it was noticeable...

Snobby place... sorry, but they only let people eat there who suit them. We went there spontaneously on a weekday and wanted something to eat. We were turned away because we didn't have a reservation, even though half the place was empty. In retrospect, I'm grateful I didn't leave my money at a place like that.

Completely overhyped and overpriced restaurant! The food tastes okay, but you can get it at many other restaurants for a fraction of the price. Don't let anyone rip you off!

First of all, the ambiance is really great. Regarding the service, I find it completely unacceptable that you can't reach the restaurant by phone. For example, I wanted to order Peking duck in advance. But if no one answers the phone, how is that possible? I'm sorry, I really didn't expect that. You can call any kebab shop and order your two kebab boxes, but here, that's not possible—sorry, that's not possible at all. About the food: The starters were really, really delicious. While the prices are obviously quite high, it's definitely worth trying something unusual and unusual. Regarding the prices of the drinks, you should be aware that it's going to be expensive. Just look at the bill. The food itself was very tasty. Except that I had to pay three euros for 20g of mayo and then another three euros separately. I find that really sick! As if they have such serious money problems that they charge such crazy prices for a mayo, especially when you've ordered food worth several hundred euros. We won't be coming here anymore. For those prices, I'd like to try some other places.

Quite okay – but certainly nothing more! I'd call it mediocre, but the prices are completely exorbitant considering what's delivered. The quality and freshness are above average, but certainly nothing more. It's pure TikTok hype – nothing more. Really good food is certainly different.

We still live in the Middle Ages! You're so stuck in your ways when it comes to head coverings. Let people dress how they feel comfortable. I really don't know why anyone should be bothered by someone wearing a head covering.

On our son's recommendation, we went to Zenzakan for our wedding anniversary. It was wonderful. Great food, a competent sommelier, and we'd be happy to go back.

Finally, a place where style and attitude don't give in to the success of a well-known star in the scene. After all, success and money don't automatically guarantee class and decency – etiquette is still taken seriously here. Next time I'm in Frankfurt, I'll definitely reserve a table.

It doesn't live up to the social media hype. Peking duck for €100? Was it tasty? Was it anything special? No! Was the service anything special? No! The ambiance is very nice, but unfortunately, the value for money isn't good. Rightfully so, it hasn't been given a star for years.

Phenomenal food. First-class service. Breathtaking ambiance. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A restaurant that stays true to its standards. 🙌🏻 Entry isn't granted only in the finest attire, but anyone with a bit of decency and etiquette knows that a hat has no place at the table.
