Zento in München

Great sushi and good ambience. The restaurant faces a wide road, with doors swung open allowing an outside seating and a good atmosphere. Food is delicious and of good quality. I could tell my sushi was freshly prepared.

Pricing is fine, but it would be nice to be able to get a pitcher of water without additional cost like in most countries. (Instead of bottled water) I ordered medium cooked but it was almost rare (maybe the scale in Germany isn't the same as France) I consider the cost of 30€ for a dish with salad/potatoes and a steak to mostly be the steak price. The steak itself was fine but not 30€ fine or sized (the size matched the 250g mentioned on the menu so no issue there). I could get a similar dish in Paris for about half the price. For 20€ in the US I've gotten much larger, better cooked steak, with no crunch or ligaments (I'm not sure what the very tough white strands are). The meat was pretty chewy which not everyone likes (especially if you aren't there to get jaw muscles, but probably also because it wasn't medium cooked) and the sides (salad and potatoes) are pretty compact in size. For me the dish was less interesting and its quality was less than that of many 15€ restaurant, nothing peculiar. Maybe the 15€ premium is because of the location and cost in the City, but Paris or Hawaï isn't cheap either and the price and quality is higher. You also don't pay for the water over there. Maybe the sushi is more worth it at this restaurant.

We sat down for a meal with clients. The food was reasonable and so were the prices. I'm sure there are some successful creative workshops, but we were limited in time and location.

We reserved a table online for 6:30 p.m. However, upon arrival, the staff immediately informed us that we could only stay for two hours – even though we had reserved in advance and weren't just a walk-in. We weren't aware of this time limit beforehand, and we weren't informed of it when we made the reservation. About 18 minutes before the end of the time, a staff member approached us and clearly stated that we had to leave the table promptly, as guests for the next reservation at 8:30 p.m. were already waiting outside the packed restaurant. There was not a single word of apology; instead, we were suggested to go to the nearby restaurant at the front – which felt very rude and like an eviction. Overall, the staff wasn't particularly attentive or friendly. The table organization seemed chaotic, and the atmosphere is completely unsuitable for a relaxed meal. If you want to spend a relaxing evening without time pressure, you should choose another restaurant. We didn't even have enough time to order dessert because we were practically escorted out the door. The food was okay. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. We won't be back.

Very Disappointing Service – I Definitely Won't Be Back My friends and I reserved a table at this restaurant a week in advance for a relaxed 6:30 p.m. dinner. However, when we arrived, we were told we could only stay for two hours because the table was booked again at 8:30 p.m. What disappointed us most was that this time limit wasn't mentioned in the online reservation. Had we known this beforehand, we would have chosen a different restaurant or planned our evening differently. Instead, we suddenly had to rush everything – ordering, eating, talking – just because other guests were due to arrive later. Even worse was the reaction of the staff, who told us something like, "Then eat somewhere else." This is extremely rude and disrespectful, especially towards customers who had made reservations in advance. The organization was poor, and we had to forgo further orders because there simply wasn't enough time. This is the first time I've ever written a negative review about a restaurant. I eat out often and understand that not everything can be perfect – but such disrespectful behavior and lack of communication are simply unacceptable. You don't expect this kind of experience at a restaurant you've consciously chosen. We were very disappointed and will definitely not be returning. I hope the restaurant learns from this to communicate more transparently and treat its guests with more respect in the future.

Service very bad, after 15min I had to ask to order, 10min later finally we got to order, 20min after we got first dishes but they forgot the drinks had to remind them. After 3rd reminder food came. Staff speak you don't understand.

The food was truly delicious, and anyone can offer sushi as far as I'm concerned, but otherwise, there's nothing authentically Japanese about this place. Unfortunately, we expected that from the presentation. Now we know better, and I would definitely visit the restaurant again for the Big Roll Ebi Tempura.

Another OOOOHHH yes, we were invited by our son, and Zento is one of his favorite restaurants in town. We had a delicious mixed sushi platter for four people. Since my son's girlfriend is gluten intolerant, she was given a separate platter. The various waiters were very attentive and asked questions frequently. A glimpse into the kitchen promised cleanliness.

Saw this place somewhere on the social media and thought it looked good and saved the place until I visited München. The place is indeed very cozy and beautiful, although the food can be a bit improved upon, is not bad, is good indeed, but for the price which was a bit on the high side, it could be a bit better, overall it is recommended.

If you want to eat sushi and Japanese cuisine in Munich, you should definitely try it. Don't forget to make a reservation. From soup to sushi to hot entrees, they were all delicious. Sushi was satisfying and fresh. Salads and shrimps were all very good. The service is very fast, the waiters are attentive. Meat, seafood, everything was very fresh.

We ate zento tempura , zento special rolls, ebu tempura maki and surf&turf. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture - that means the foods were delicious! There are only few things that I can criticize: makis were sooo small and the cocktail prices were pricey. The service was fast, I think. We waited for like 15 minutes even tough we ordered too many things The interior was cozy and beautiful, but I think the spaces between the tables need to be wider. The staff were very polite and attentive (but not in an annoying way)

Great food for not too much money! The food is authentic Asian food. Great variety of dishes. They also have a lot of vegetarian dishes. Definitely worth a try - It‘s not immediately at the city centre but a short walk from Odeonsplatz. It‘s possible to make a reservation online and they accept cards (no american express). First of all, yes, it is a bit tight at some tables. We were lucky enough to get the stand-alone table on the wall between the stairs and the bar, which was very pleasant. When we were there (8 p.m.) it was full and unfortunately very loud, one gentleman in particular said he constantly had to drown out everyone else, but the restaurant can't do anything about that. Although... maybe you could kindly point out not to shout like that. But well, the background noise here is probably never very quiet. Everyone in service was very nice and friendly. The food was served in a reasonable time. For the starter: The ceviche is a dream, the summer rolls are also very good, everything is beautifully prepared and tastes great. The main course, surf and turf, was perfect except for the shrimp that was fried a little too long. The other main course sushi with salmon tartare and sashimi were perfect. All in all worth the money.

The food is ok. nice presentation and arrived quickly. Service is average to poor. Plates were not cleared and main courses were already brought. We were allowed to refill the wine ourselves and the beer for the aperitif was still on the table at the end...so no problem. But the cheekiness of the waiter as to why I didn't give a tip was too much. He also came with the condition of his employment that he had to pay commission for the table of 2% and that he was used to getting tips. Well, then work on how real service works and then you'll get something.

We extended the time window of 2 hours for 4 people by another 2. They don't like that at all, even though it is offered as possible. Way too many places. When it's busy, it's not so great to sit on your neighbor's lap. Overall, a recommendation if you deduct these points.

Super delicious Tonkotsu Ramen!

The food here tasted very good! Sushi was very tasty and fresh and the mochi ice cream was also very good. The service was very nice and helpful. The atmosphere inside was very nice.

For a restaurant with above average prices, the service was very poor. You had to constantly bend over when the waiter served food because the restaurant was too narrow. Keller always leaned close to us customers (because the restaurant was loud) and it's not professional. In addition, upon arrival we were repeatedly told that you could only reserve the table for 2.5 hours. It was a birthday and we called in advance to see if the cake could be served, which was answered in the affirmative. Only when it was asked that the cake should be reserved was it said that cutlery and serving costs €4/P.

There were 5 of us in total and no one thought it was great. When making the reservation I stated that we would like a somewhat quiet place. However, we were squeezed in right at the front door. Then the pressure was immediately built up and they said the table was only for 2 hours. The starter was okay, but the main course had no price/performance ratio. The food really wasn't of high quality, although you would expect this given the prices quoted. Sushi is far too expensive for this quality - loveless. Toro, which is supposed to be particularly tender, had a fibrous piece in it, which is absurd for the price. It was very loud and the service was slow. Conclusion, it was a very expensive evening with food that I could get in every corner. Too bad.

I have to say that the food is really very good and the service is very nice and helpful. What really detracts from the review is that after 2 hours you are politely asked to vacate your seat, as there is no time left for dessert or a glass of wine after your meal. It takes about an hour for the food to arrive. This is really tight. Unfortunately, you are not made aware of the time limit when making your reservation, at least not if you do it by phone. That's really a shame.

For dinner we ordered Chicken Tempura and Big Ebi Tempura, which were very tasty and also very large in size in my opinion, and for drinks we had one with pineapple and one with lime (unfortunately I didn't remember the names). It took a little longer for the drinks to arrive, but that was made up for by the food coming shortly afterwards. It was beautifully prepared so that it was enough for a nice photo. The waiters were very friendly and were able to accommodate us spontaneously, which I really liked. In terms of ambience I thought it was great, great selection of music playing in the background, interior design of the restaurant and also from the outside when looking at Zento. This restaurant was worth a visit and I can only recommend it.

My rating applies to the lunch menu. The prices are fair, there is a good selection of bowls, sushi and warm dishes. Everything tastes good, the portions are right. It's always full and the tables are a bit crowded.

Delicious sushi especially the special rolls and fried ones - price corresponds to taste and quality. Overall good, friendly service. But the seating is sometimes very narrow and there is little space for neighboring tables, so you tend to get bumped into when you walk past.

I find it uncomfortable that you only get the table for two hours but then have to wait a long time for the food. Food itself was very good. We were brought the wrong food, but after complaining, the right food came quickly. Both meals were included in the final bill, and here too we had to complain again. Too much stress for a cozy dinner...

I was there with my mom in the evening and I have to say that it was really really tasty. I had a tempura roll with salmon and salmon maki. It was a dream. Top service and everyone is very nice. Prices are a bit high, but normal for Munich and absolutely realistic given the delicious food! Inside it is very well furnished and beautifully decorated. But not too much either. ;-) Tables are very close to each other and sometimes it is very loud because there is a lot going on. I therefore recommend making reservations. I went to this great restaurant this evening. As a starter I ordered a mixed tartare and a ceviche salad. Then I ordered Zento Tempura and Alaska Sushi. For dessert I had a mochi selection. Dinner was fantastic, all courses were truly delicious and made with fresh and well prepared ingredients. All dishes were elegantly and delicately presented. I highly recommend a visit and a meal at Zento!!!!

We recently went to Zento for the first time and were absolutely thrilled. The ambience has nothing to do with the typical Asian restaurant, very stylish and modern. The food was to die for, we each had a starter of VEGI GYOZA and vegetable rolls with peanut sauce. For the main course we had sushi with flambéed tuna, which was really amazing. Everything is super fresh and tastes a thousand times better than sushi from another store. We also had a glass of wine, which was also very nice. All in all, a wonderful evening, only the table seating being a bit too narrow and the time slot for a reservation of 2 hours are not a flaw, but you have to know! Thank you very much, we will be back very soon.

Especially with the service 1. the prices are incredibly expensive, €91 in total for a starter, two main courses and 2 soft drinks each. 2. the portions are TINY 3. the sushi was marketed as a chef recommendation or chef idea - I imagined something fancy. We went to Zento as a couple on a Saturday evening. Basically a nice atmosphere, but the tables were very narrow and close to each other - that was too much for us... 3 stars The service was initially very fast, almost too fast (food came one after the other, no chance of relaxed conversation between courses). On the other hand, it wasn't very good or even outstanding, but the flavors weren't coordinated well enough (and too many unnecessary sauces on the sushi). Still 4 stars. All in all, a nice evening, but one that doesn't warrant a repeat.

Lackluster experience. We waited over 1h10!! for our dish, and when my "sushi surprise" arrived, I was quite disappointed to see that it was a set 8 small makis, 2 Nigiri and 8 other rolls. Quite the selection for 35€... Overall a disappointing birthday dinner.

I was so excited to eat here because as someone with celiac disease I appreciate the menu with the great allergen info, especially for a Japanese restaurant. Happily made a reservation, arrived and unfortunately had to leave before even ordering. This space is so incredibly crammed, tight and loud that it was simply unbearable. The tables are insanely close together and unfortunately we were placed at a middle table, completely sandwiched between the people next to us and behind me. Every other minute someone bumped into my chair (including the waiter) or I had to move the chair to make way for someone. This is completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this price category. If you charge like a fine dining restaurant, I‘d expect the atmosphere to match, not a panic attack inside a sardine tin. This was such a huge letdown :(

Hugely disappointing for such an expensive restaurant. We were packed in like sardines with no personal space. After waiting more than 10 minutes, we were only handed menus, with no service or acknowledgment before that. We decided to leave—definitely not worth the premium prices.
