A really great vegan restaurant. The food and drinks were very appetizing, fresh, tasty and fair prices. Service was extremely friendly and warm. The staff didn't push us at all when we missed the time to close. I'm happy about another new favorite restaurant in Cologne.

The **Zen Chay** in Cologne is a vegan Asian restaurant that impresses across the board. The waitresses are extremely friendly and accommodating, which makes the visit immediately pleasant. The food is not only a visual highlight, but also absolutely bombastic in terms of taste. The *20 T to Share* appetizer tapas are particularly recommended, but you should be careful - less is often more here, because the portions are so generous that I barely finished the main course and immediately secured my lunch for the next day have. The ambience is pleasant and the service – whether with food or drinks – leaves nothing to be desired. Two small points of criticism: You can only pay with an EC card or cash, which seems a bit outdated these days. Luckily there is a savings bank nearby. The table could also have been a little cleaner, but that hardly spoils the overall experience. Whether vegan or not, Zen Chay is definitely worth a visit. A culinary highlight that I can only recommend!

ONLY CASH ACCEPTED! In Cologne in 2024, international cards are not accepted, only the German Girocard. The only reason I can think of is tax evasion. I won't be returning and I will advise all my friends and acquaintances to do the same!

The food was really good, but what I liked more last night was the great service. The young man and especially the young woman had a very good sense of when to come to the table. It's rare these days. The prices are fair, the furnishings are simple but elegant, and the toilets are excellently cleaned. Great restaurant

Zen Chay on Papstnstrasse is a true gem in Cologne. The friendly service immediately creates a pleasant atmosphere in which you feel welcome. The ambience inside is inviting and stylish, perfect for a break from everyday life. I was particularly impressed by the iced tea – fresh and aromatic! The dishes are simply delicious, prepared with a lot of love and full of flavor. An ideal place for anyone wanting to enjoy a delicious vegetarian or vegan meal. Absolutely recommended!

You can get bowls in many places now - I had the Pagoda Dream - that wasn't a bowl, that's a revelation! 🙏🤤

Poor service. Looks great but Food was ok at best. Did not remove a mouldy looking dish from the bill even though the waitress took it and didn’t know what the blue patch was - at paying he said we can bring it back because it wasn’t mouldy but we aren’t removing from the bill.

Great place but parents with kids shouldnt be allowed, unless kids know how to behave. We had a horrible time bc parents could control their kid who was crying, whining and screaming. The restaurant owner could’ve intervened but decided that parents w/ kids were more important than other paying customers.

Don't accept any international cards, only cash or German city card.

Food was good but this one waiter was quite rude would not even respond when I ask for the English menu instead he just brought it without saying a word!

Very good food, beautifully presented and very filling. The vegan shrimp are great, my highlight are the steamed dumplings with siracha mayo sauce. Delicious homemade lemonades and the coffee with coconut milk are also worth trying. Despite being busy, the staff was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, credit card payments are not possible, which is a shame and out of date, especially for international guests.

Super cute and very quiet even though we are on Neumarkt. Unfortunately the food didn't taste like anything (we had the 21 and 26). The service is great and the cocktails are super delicious :) I still won't visit again 💔

My lunch today was the Summer Bowl for €10.50. The portion was generous and very tasty. I added more salt because I like salty food. The restaurant is very centrally located near the Neumarkt, but you can still sit outside on the terrace in a pleasantly quiet manner. I will gladly come again.

The food is really delicious and everything is vegan! There are great combinations. You shouldn't necessarily expect traditional Vietnamese cuisine here, but I was here with someone who doesn't normally eat in vegan cuisine or such more modern restaurants. She was also thrilled. Only the tofu could have been fried a little crispier. The ambience and location are really nice. I can't complain about the service either. I think the prices are really fair. We were well fed.

Sind zufällig im Zen Chay gelandet, da das andere Lokal Ruhetag hatte. Und was für ein Glücksfall! Alles, was an dem Abend auf dem Tisch stand, was einfach sensationell gut! Die Getränke sind nur am Rand zu erwähnen, aber allein die Vorspeisen waren der Knaller. Geschmacklich top, super crispy Summer Rolls, eine Wasabicreme zum Reinknien und von der Konsistenz perfekte Dumplings. Danach hatten wir Sushi und die Udon Bowl. Das Sushi - Vegan, wie alles in diesem Lokal - war für uns zwei Schwangere eine besondere Freude, da wir es nicht nur bedenkenlos essen konnten, sondern auch hier 10/10 Punkten für den Geschmack vergeben können. Dazu nett angerichtet und ein Hingucker! Wirklich, dieses Lokal ist eine absolute Empfehlung!!!

For us it was the first and last visit. For eating: You specifically choose something that appeals to you on the menu. Then the dish comes and there are ingredients in it that you don't like/can tolerate. Absolute nonsense. About the service: The service took a lot of effort to attract attention. Pointed out that there are several ingredients in the dish that you don't like/tolerate. O Ton Waiter: The menu says “vegetables”. No, it doesn't say so. The individual ingredients are listed, none of them are generalized. The waiter didn't know what to say anymore. Communication was also rather difficult because answers were only whispered, but they were able to talk to each other without any problems and at a normal volume. Strange. We would also have liked to have ordered more drinks and dessert. This didn't happen because there was no attention from the service staff. About the ambience: It may be better inside, but we sat outside. Next door is a brewery where a group was loudly playing Mallorca party hits. Totally unnecessary. The toilets were also very dirty, there were long black hairs everywhere, everything seemed dirty. The two stars: The food was beautifully presented and my soda lime was delicious.

PURE, AMAZING, VEGAN FOOD!!!!! Unbelievably healthy and fresh but most importantly actually great tasting. They had some unique dishes, you couldn’t go wrong with anything here. The special drinks were unbelievable as well. Very nice staff, super clean and modern environment what more could you ask for. This was one of the top vegan places I’ve been to.

Very, very tasty, staff could keep a little more oversight when it comes to the drinks. See empty glasses. Otherwise I am very enthusiastic and will come back. Summer rolls are highly recommended

The food looked good but tasted below average and the staff was also not very nice. Also, if you are going please carry cash as they do not accept any cards and don’t let you know ( except a small board in a corner) until you want to pay which is a bit frustrating. I think mentioning on menu or website or something as well would be helpful.

Overall, the food tasted very good. I recommend the 'shrimp', the baobao and, as a drink, the strawberry iced tea. I find the prices to be a bit too high. At least with the share dishes and drinks. Card payment was possible with us. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant, even for non-vegetarians/vegans. I think it's a shame that it's closed on Sundays, as we usually eat outside on Sundays and the restaurant then unfortunately goes away.

A very nice shop in the middle of Cologne where all the food is vegan. The selection of food is huge and the portions are filling. They also have no limits to their creativity when it comes to drinks. The service is fast and friendly and you can pay with cash or debit card.

If you like Asian cuisine you definitely have to come here. Will come here again.

I spontaneously went to Zen Chay for lunch to try the vegan products. I ordered White Pearls (steamed dumplings filled with vegetables and soybeans, topped with Sriracha mayo) as a starter, Peanut Cream (fresh vegetables in a peanut-coconut milk sauce on rice with vegan shrimp) and a Maracuja Iced Tea (homemade iced tea with fresh passion fruit). , passion fruit syrup, cane sugar, mint, soda and black tea). The staff were very helpful, friendly and quick in service - I didn't have to wait very long for the food. My peanut cream was very hot but also very tasty - the vegetables were very fresh and the dumplings had a good taste. These were my first vegan shrimp, but definitely not the last! The White Pearls also tasted very good as a starter, as the seasoning with the Sriracha mayo worked perfectly. You can't go wrong with iced tea, especially when it's warm outside and you want a refreshing iced tea. The portions are really generous and reasonable for the price. If you eat vegan, you don't have to worry here either, as all dishes are purely vegan. Everything is lovingly prepared and you just feel good after your visit. I'm thrilled and would love to come back!

I discovered the restaurant by chance and can only give high praise. The restaurant is purely vegan and there is a very large selection. I can particularly recommend the two spring rolls, the Hanoi Soup and Summer in Bowl, but I am sure that everything is very tasty. I'll be happy when another branch opens in Düsseldorf 😉

Homemade lemonades/iced teas are really great! We also had maki to share and 2 main courses. Not exactly cheap for an Asian restaurant, but considering the quality, the price is more than fair. For 2 homemade lemonades, 10 pieces of maki and 2 bowls I paid €54 + €6 tip. Very digestible, you can taste that everything is fresh! Highly recommended!

Coming in we were welcomed by a cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere, underlined with modern interior design (extra points for the jazz music that they played while we were there). Service was great, didn't know what to choose so they helped guide us through the menu. About the food: been hunting for a good bowl of pho in Germany, and while this one was vegan, it does taste better than what you get in many restaurants. Price was reasonable, I'd even say cheap compared to most places. Spent less than 20€ per person for a main dish and a drink.
