Würzburger Ratskeller in Würzburg

The food was excellent! Unfortunately, the service was remarkably poor. We felt completely unwelcome, and the table staff were inattentive and unfriendly. A real shame. The initial greeting was also interesting – being asked, as a German with a migration background, where we were "really" from because "anyone can have a German passport" is simply rude – political views aside – such behavior is unacceptable, especially in the service industry.

Never been so mistreated before

We wanted to have real german food and tried this Ratskeller. I had suggested to go there, and me and my wife were very happy with the food, service and the atmosfer.

Centrally located in the city center, spacious seating area, friendly staff. Diverse food and drink menu.

I was actually planning to eat the baked carp, which TripAdvisor says is available here. Unfortunately, it wasn't. But since I've already been here and had the sauerbraten, which was also delicious. I need a destination, because I walked for an hour to the city center.

It was a very pleasant stay. The service was quick and the food was very good. We would go again.

The ambiance is nice in itself, but dreary and not inviting. The service is okay. I sent half of my meal back. It was cooked without care, lacked flavor, a waste of money, I wouldn't eat here again.

Very good. Delicious food and drinks (even if not everything was available, there were plenty of alternatives). The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, a real pleasure. The interior is quite modern, which doesn't quite fit with a traditional town hall restaurant.

Terrible quality for a high price. I had a sauerbraten that was served lukewarm with a ready-made sauce, and the red cabbage was seasoned with rancid duck/goose fat. All this for €25.20. The liver dumpling soup for €8 was gone in three spoonfuls and was also a disaster – completely oversalted, the dumpling overcooked on the outside and raw on the inside. The price and quality couldn't be further apart. Absolutely not recommended!!!

Very friendly staff, comfortable seating – even for our large group – good selection of food, including vegetarian options. The exceptional dog-friendliness is also worth mentioning. We'll definitely be back! 🙂

The interior of the place is amazing. The artist who made the paintings is unreal. The service was really good and the food was good. All in all a place to visit and eat in Würzburg. I will be back the next time!

Unfortunately, I have to give this a bad review. The food was rather mediocre, the dumplings with the venison roast were not at all good, and the waitress's statement when we complained, "she had other guests and therefore no time for discussions," was, in my opinion, completely unacceptable; truly abysmal.

We ate at the Ratskeller twice in one weekend and will definitely go back when we're in Würzburg. The shoulder of pork with dumplings and red cabbage is incredibly delicious. It's also perfect for those who are hungry. The Ratskeller also has a fantastic service team that can handle a joke or two and dish out some goodies when appropriate. That's what I call gastronomy! Bus to next time.

I've rarely eaten so badly: warmed-up goulash from a can, dry steak, and lukewarm food. Only the salad was good.

We can't comment on the food as we left... Service zero stars if that were possible. We actually wanted to round off my husband's birthday with a nice dinner... when we entered the restaurant and were shown a table, I hung my jacket over the chair and wanted to go to the restroom when the waiter asked us what we wanted to drink before we had even sat down. Me: I want to go to the restroom first and sit down. When I came back, he asked again, even though we hadn't opened the menu yet. Me: I want to look first because I don't know what I'm having. By the way, the menu doesn't have just one page. After less than 5 minutes, he walked past again and asked if we were ready. Us: yes! He cynically: already???? FYI, dear readers: we were only in the restaurant for 10 minutes!!! After that, we got up and left. When we go out to eat, we want to take our time reading the menu, especially if it has several pages, and choose the right drink like wine or beer to go with it, and not finish eating after 20 minutes. This isn't a fast-food restaurant! Maybe this waiter should start working at McDonald's! If a server thinks they're superior to the customers, not only they but also their boss should reconsider their standards. Especially their cynicism and arrogance. Even a nice atmosphere is useless in this situation, and it doesn't fit in with the atmosphere, anyway. The waiter in question had a ponytail and a full beard. Just to let you know who we're talking about!!! Never again at this restaurant!

Five of us were there yesterday. We called beforehand to see if there was room. The gentleman on the phone was really nice. The restaurant is really beautiful, a truly unique place. Unfortunately, the waiter wasn't in a very good mood (we were) and greeted us with a very derogatory remark. The food was very good, but only lukewarm. The toilets, on the other hand, are completely awful! The toilet paper is on the floor; there's no holder for it. The restaurant looks fantastic, and then this happens... A nice gentleman on the train recommended this place to us. We were really looking forward to it and were unfortunately a bit disappointed.

I could hardly believe it. There were 14 of us there and we were planning to spend a lot of money. There were plenty of seats outside, but we would have had to move a few chairs. The waiter apparently didn't like that and sent us away. Across the street at the Eiscafe Fontana, we were then served excellently, but they also had to move chairs. Three minutes of moving chairs for a few hundred euros in sales and a generous tip were well spent. The only thing being rated here is the lack of service.

The taste was excellent. We sat outside, where many pedestrians and customers smoking lingered in the entrance area, and it was sometimes noisy. Service could be better. Some customers left because they couldn't order anything. We also had to wait longer for service. The restrooms are in poor condition.

The food was okay. It was a standard three-course meal. Because it's in a semi-basement, the signal was poor.

We were first approached with the words "What do you want?" The man, with his Eastern European accent, directed us to a bar and told us that if we didn't agree, we could leave immediately. Since we hadn't said a word to the good man up to that point, we were very surprised that he was so rude to his customers. Since you're apparently not welcome in this restaurant, we turned around and ate somewhere else. Thanks for nothing.

Three of us ate there on the evening of September 9, 2025. Some of the food wasn't available, so we ordered sauerbraten. The portions were large, but the flavor was terrible. It had absolutely nothing to do with sauerbraten. The meat was tough and the sauce was slightly sour. Everything was slightly warmed. The red cabbage was hot and tasty. But that was it. Never again!!!

Four of us went there for dinner on August 30th. The food was good, but the service that day was poor. I think there were simply too few waitresses, and they weren't well trained. What particularly bothered me, though, was that the manager, Mr. Schubert, was sitting at his computer playing solitaire, even though things weren't going well in the store. I'm at a loss for words.

First of all, a shout-out to the kitchen: the four dishes were very good (char, veal schnitzel, pork schnitzel, turkey steak, each with side dishes). That saved the individual stars. So why only two stars in total? The overall experience ended in disappointment. The service ultimately deserved zero stars. We still don't understand what got into the waiter (tall, black hair partly tied back/up, beard) – initially very friendly, then, upon payment, a complete change of heart on his part. He wanted to know what everyone had eaten. When I started to count the items, he snapped at me, "Quick, quick, hurry!" I still didn't reply, even though I found that completely inappropriate. We each listed our food. After a while, he came back with four bills. None of the bills were correct; everything was completely mixed up. Dear Waiter, this shows that "quick and hurry" isn't working for you. When I pointed out the mistakes, he snapped at me again, "I wrote everything down exactly as you said." To which I replied, very angrily for the first time, "No, you didn't!" We were four inconspicuous, peaceful guests who hadn't complained about anything. We would have given this waiter a 10% tip each. The man obviously didn't want one, for whatever reason. You don't snap at your guests like that. In the end, he received a 2% tip at most, and he absolutely had only himself to blame for that. But I'd still like to know what got into him, because we didn't give him any reason to be in a bad mood, and by the time we'd paid, the restaurant wasn't really busy anymore.

Beautiful, very original place. We ate very well there. The food is high quality. We loved the zwiebelrostbraten and the chef's personal touch. The service is adorable and very professional. Even our dog was treated like a king!

The atmosphere in the courtyard is lovely. That's where the positives end. Charging €20 for a few pieces of smoked salmon is simply unrealistic and shouldn't be rewarded for it.

We had dinner at the Ratskeller Würzburg yesterday around 6:30 p.m. and were unfortunately very disappointed. I don't like writing bad reviews, but at over €70 for two main courses, I expect freshly prepared food and a certain level of quality – neither of which was the case here. I ordered wild boar medallions with chanterelle mushrooms and two bread dumplings (€28). What arrived were two carelessly presented, lukewarm plates. The dumplings were hard and seemed like ready-made items (Pfanni), presumably reheated. The brown sauce had no flavor, already had a skin on them, and the medallions were tough and also not freshly prepared. The chanterelle mushrooms were mediocre and quite sparingly portioned – I would have expected considerably more for this price. The cranberry espuma was visually unappealing. The service was also disappointing: The waitresses were disinterested, unpolite, and impersonal. After the meal, we were greeted with a curt "Was everything okay?" When we complained that the food was too cold, all we got was "Oh, that's a shame..." – no apology, no offer of compensation. From that moment on, the waitress was practically unavailable; we even had to actively make ourselves known to pay. The ambiance is deceptive: From the outside, the Ratskeller, with its historic charm and seating arrangements, appears inviting, but in fact, it seems to be more focused on one-time walk-ins than satisfied regulars. A glance at the neighboring tables confirmed this impression – food was being returned there as well. Conclusion: The price-performance ratio is completely out of proportion here. We definitely won't be coming back and can only advise against it.

08-2025. Lovely terrace with lots to see. Highly recommended for a delicious drink outside. Inside, a beautiful old interior. The food is fried, and the sauce comes from a jar. Portions are small. Maybe look elsewhere!?!?!? Friendly service.

I frequented this place with a group. It's a large, clean, and welcoming traditional beer garden, but unfortunately, the staff is rushed (the English menu is one page, while the German one was 12 pages). They're also very strict about enforcing their opening hours (they accept reservations until 8:15 PM, and the kitchen closes at 9:45 PM, even for dessert). The prices are high for the average quality of the dishes, and the plating is self-service.

The food at Würzburger Ratskeller was truly delicious! The chicken livers, in particular, deserve special praise – tender, perfectly seasoned, and served in a delicious, fragrant sauce. This dish was a surprising highlight – classic cuisine at its finest. The desserts were also fantastic – panna cotta with fruit sauce and creative combinations of whipped cream, fresh fruit, and creamy mousse – not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The attention to detail and exquisite taste are clearly evident. The service was also excellent – the friendly waiter stood out. He was warm, helpful, and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommended – delicious food, friendly service, and a lovely ambiance. We'd love to come back!

Salmon with potato pancakes - the salmon was good and sufficient, but the two potato pancakes were unfortunately not much bigger than rösti.

The food was horrible! Mini cordon bleu filled with liver sausage and a dollop of sauce... was totally dry! The waiter said that's what the sauce is for 😳 ah ok, thought it was decoration, then had to wash it down with Coke 🤣🤣 Sauce from Knorr or Maggi!!! That only happens when you fry it in a pan or on the grill and then because it can't be sent straight away because the guest is still spooning at their mini soup which wasn't really good... it gets thrown back in the microwave! Schnitzel much too small and also extremely dry and pounded much too thin!! Baked potato with sour cream on the side... far too little sour cream and refined with mayonnaise... Mmmm delicious 🤔 Salad dressing is ready, dressing from a canister! As a trained chef I can't say any different! You can really taste it! This is not good Franconian cuisine! Really not good for the best place in Würzburg! Selling something like that to people for a lot of money and then thinking we can cook without a microwave...???😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 I don't know... You can fool tourists but not a trained chef!

Tradition without kitsch, history without noise. The Ratskeller doesn't feel like a place from the past – but rather like one that has remained. Stylish, down-to-earth, timeless.

During our visit to the Ratskeller, we were not only treated very warmly, but our every wish was catered to. We were with a wedding party in the "Kapelle" room. The food was excellent and everyone enjoyed it. The friendly waitstaff and bar staff did an outstanding job. Very professional and perfect in every respect. Came here for a private party (we were not the ones with the reservation, just guests, so I don't know how much everything costs). It was admittedly a large group, but the amount of time between meal courses was a little long, and by the time we were waiting for dessert to show up, all of the younger kids were getting super restless and we were ready to just leave. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. It was also difficult to get the waiters attention. Not sure why the service was so slow, because the rest of the restaurant was completely empty. The room we were in had some pretty stained glass, but the acoustics were not great for how many people we had.

The interior and courtyard are very nice. Everyone enjoyed the food, even if it was served a bit too quickly in my opinion. The service was excellent.

All in all, it was okay. The service was just slow even though it wasn't busy. Additionally, the wheat beer was stale, which, upon request, was due to the new keg. If you do this every day, you should know this and taste the beer before serving it to the customer. In any case, it felt like 20 minutes before we had something to drink. Then the food arrived, and there was only a small toilet next to my pork roast. Considering the prices, I find that a bit too low. You'd have to reorder, which would mean extra costs, and toilet paper is really not expensive ;-) Conclusion: Value for money OK, nice ambiance... the service clearly needs improvement... and the food is mediocre (tourist catering), unfortunately, there are better places... but we'd be happy to come back again and be surprised by how seriously they take criticism.

The server was great. Unfortunately, I had the burger. It looked great. But if the server doesn't ask if you want it medium, it's best to order something else. Even though I knew that, I made the mistake of not changing my order. The food came very quickly. Unfortunately, that's not a sign of quality, and it was confirmed here as well. The courtyard is very nice. The salad at the next table looked good, though.

If I could give the service 0 stars, I would. I was there for lunch with a large group. Since I have all sorts of intolerances, I only ordered a simple portion of fries, which one waiter apparently found very objectionable. Over the course of my stay, I had to endure three stupid comments and cheeky laughter, which was clearly inappropriate. My colleagues noticed this too, and one of them spoke to the man about it afterwards. He didn't see any problem at all and didn't apologize. For the far too overpriced portion of fries at almost €7, I would probably rather go to almost any fast food chain where the staff let me eat in peace and the fries cost half the price.

Unfortunately disappointing - we know the Ratskeller better We have enjoyed going to the Ratskeller in Würzburg for over 15 years. It was always something special for us – great food, nice atmosphere, good service. We were even more disappointed with our last visit. The three of us paid €133 for food that, to be honest, was more reminiscent of canteen food. In terms of taste, everything was okay, but far from what we are used to from Ratskeller. It seemed as if the food had been ready for a while and was just kept warm - unfortunately you could taste it. The salad wasn't fresh either and had seen better days. It's a shame, because we have always valued the Ratskeller very much. Hopefully it was just a slip-up - but unfortunately it wasn't.

If the time between ordering and serving the food is approx. 5 minutes, it cannot be considered freshly prepared food. Accordingly, the food had no taste. We were very annoyed. For 70 euros the quality should have been better.
