We had dinner at this old restaurant last week. We really enjoyed it because it retains a very traditional feel, and the food is delicious. We tried the onion soup (it's very hearty and filling!), goose with chestnuts, and roast lamb with prunes. We also tried a local white wine, which we loved. The waiters were very attentive. We'll definitely be back!

Sunday, nov 30…. If the owner thinks he’s saving money with cheap labor, think twice. The waiter doesn’t even look at people he speaks to. Not a drop of willingness to work hard. Seen people walking in and out of the restaurant and don’t stay because of the lack of service.

Passing through Trier for the Christmas market, we received a very warm welcome and had a wonderful meal. The setting is lovely.

This wasn't for us. We were squeezed into a small table between others, supposedly because nothing else was available. There were countless empty tables, all with reserved signs, but no one came to any of them during our entire stay. The tablecloth was dirty from the previous guests, and despite our reservation, the table wasn't set. The Asian waiter was incredibly nice and helpful, but his boss was impossible. I think he thought he was being funny, but he wasn't; to us, it bordered on rude. The food was okay, but nothing more. The Wiener Schnitzel was sinewy and gristly, and the fried potatoes were swimming in grease. Even the sweet potato dish from the weekly specials was simply oily and greasy. It's a shame; after all the great reviews, I was hoping for something different.

The atmosphere was great. We were in the vaulted cellar. The service left much to be desired. Drinks arrived slowly, if at all. Unfortunately, some of our food arrived very late, even though everything had been pre-ordered. I wouldn't go there again.

Due to severe understaffing, the service was correspondingly limited, something we've never experienced in decades at the restaurant. Our reserved table wasn't set, and the tablecloth, soiled by previous guests, wasn't replaced. We had to get our drinks ourselves from the bar because no one on the team had time to bring them to the guests. The food took over an hour to arrive at the table. Perhaps they could have communicated this at the beginning: "We're short-staffed, the restaurant has four rooms but is fully booked, so it will take a while today." The lovely Christmas decorations, like the large Advent wreath and table decorations in the restaurant, were also missing. Hotel prices for double rooms are now far too high. This means that in the future, we'll have to book a different room category and/or shorten our stay. It's a shame, but even during the week, there's no room for under €200. Stick to what you know... we're in Trier, not Munich! ...Check-in was also rather strange; they asked for my ID and had to escort me to my room because there were problems!? He said he had to check if the cleaning staff had done everything correctly...but this wasn't actually "checked" in the room...I also had to fill out the personal details of my companion, even though he's been a regular guest for years and his name was even on the booking confirmation. When I asked if these were new regulations, the answer was "yes, exactly"...As a regular guest, I found all of this very odd and confusing...We visited several other places over the weekend, and everywhere else we had absolutely no such problems...So what's going completely wrong at the lovely Glocke, dear B. family? Hardly any familiar faces are there anymore...you can see and feel the dissatisfaction and immense pressure on everyone...sad :-(

We wanted a traditional Trier inn and ended up at the Wirtshaus zur Glocke. We had made a reservation, and when I mentioned on the phone that it was my husband's birthday, they told me they would reserve a nice table by the window for me. I thought that was very thoughtful. The food was delicious, and the service was very friendly. I deducted one star because we had to wait a very long time to be served at the beginning, even though the inn wasn't full.

Hi, first off, the service was super friendly, but waiting over an hour for food is unacceptable, and then it arrived in a split order: the fries were already half eaten, then came the advertised horse steak, the onions were sautéed but pale, and the rest was mediocre, just ordinary food at exorbitant prices.

We were a party of seven, and we had to ask the server three times before we could order more drinks. The appetizer, snails, arrived lukewarm without cutlery. We had to wait 75 minutes for the main course, which was only lukewarm (Cordon Bleu with fried potatoes), incredibly greasy, and the salad inedible. The server was completely uninterested. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

We had researched the best places to eat in Trier beforehand, and this was the best option, but we were disappointed. While we had a pleasant meal, we found the food subpar and the service poor.

Very cozy atmosphere, friendly and attentive service. The food was excellent, and the portions were generous. There's definitely something for everyone on the menu. We had pork chops with fried potatoes and pork cheeks with spaetzle and Brussels sprouts. Both were absolutely delicious.

We waited more than an hour. The service was massively overwhelmed that day. Drinks weren't refilled and plates weren't cleared. A steak was given away without asking. It seemed as if other tables weren't satisfied either.

Nice ambiance. You sit in an old, quaint inn and have a choice of many traditional dishes. Everything is very well presented and delicious. Unfortunately, the pictures of the location and the food have been lost... Recommended. Be sure to make a reservation (at least on weekends).

A typical old-style place with a vintage vibe, but some tables aren't very comfortable. The fries were average — not bad, not great — and the meat was far below acceptable standards. I've had much better elsewhere. Overall, it's overpriced for the quality of the food.

The Wirtshaus zur glock was very nice food and a nice ambience in a nice clean restaurant with helpful stuff. It was more expensive than it appeared to be on the internet but it was quite good value all the same because the quality was there, the schnitzel was absolutely awesome and the food in general was really good. The service was good. The wine was nice and cheap so great marks. Highly recommended.

A clear recommendation. We made a reservation for 11 people, and it was the last evening of a fantastic weekend in Trier. We arrived an hour early, but it was no problem. We sat in the inn; it was incredibly cozy. Great menu, and both the food and drinks left nothing to be desired. Strong beer and glass of wine are perfect accompaniments to good, home-style cooking. The horse steak was incredibly delicious and cooked to perfection, and the dishes arrived at the same time. You had to be timely; the drinks and food took a while to arrive. There were some unavailability within the team that day, but the head waiter made up for everything with a friendly and charming manner. We felt like guests and had a wonderful evening. We would gladly come back to try out the historic vaulted cellar. Thanks to the team for your hospitality, and thanks to the kitchen for the truly fantastic dishes.

Service was bad (ignored), soup of the day was tasty but the weekly dish (cauliflower gratin) was unloving and mushy.

A rustic inn with excellent traditional cuisine. All dishes are freshly prepared and delicious. The restaurant was very busy, yet appetizers and main courses were served quickly, freshly, and hot. Excellent service and a very friendly and attentive head waiter! Advance reservations are recommended. Highly recommended!

Our first time in Trier, we spontaneously searched for a restaurant in the city center on our first evening. There was surprisingly little choice in this central square. We liked the menu here. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time inside for information about available tables. Apparently, only one waiter knew about the table occupancy, and he was very stressed and uncommunicative. We left. The front was quite nice, but everything seemed to be reserved. The back was rather cramped and not so nice. The staff seemed unfriendly and very stressed. Unfortunately, it made a bad impression.

Bad food. Bad service. All the waiters were unfriendly, and the food arrived much too late. The food wasn't even tasty. The paprika schnitzel didn't taste like paprika, and the meat was tough. Not recommended. NEVER AGAIN.

Very rude service. The waitress didn’t want to waste a single second waiting for her guest’s decision. Hard to communicate: even though I started in German, she insisted on speaking English, but her English skills were far below service requirements. The horse meat steak was horrible—far too much salt on top, overcooked on the surface while medium inside.

Sorry, they served you a ready-made schnitzel, not my thing. They then topped it with a ready-made sauce.

First of all, I have to highlight the extremely nice, friendly, and courteous staff, who gave us a warm welcome even before we entered the restaurant. My dish, horse steak with fried potatoes, was simply excellent and cooked to my desired perfection...bleu. I've never had horse steak before and always have to try local dishes. I absolutely hit the mark and made the right decision. I would order again and again. The ambiance...everything is just right here, and there's an interesting history behind the restaurant.

This review was written after eating there three nights in a row. We found the food to be good. Try the seasonal dishes; they're worth the detour. As for drinks, we enjoyed the dry cider (Viez), which is a regional specialty. The staff is very friendly. One of the waitresses is French-speaking, and menus are available in French. A plus: when it's very hot, which it was, there's plenty of cool indoor seating. Recommended, but booking a table may be helpful.

Good food, good wine, and a wonderful ambiance, especially the beautiful cellar vault. The service was also excellent. Advance table reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

There was sand in the lettuce, and the Wiener schnitzel was just two slices of trimmed beef. Breading doesn't necessarily make a schnitzel. We've been here often, but today is the last time. It's a shame.

Excellent food, a fairly extensive menu but a bit awkwardly laid out. The menu does offer many local specialties, including seasonal dishes. Friendly service and plenty of cozy seating in a German inn-style setting. A bit more expensive than your standard schnitzel inn, but not too much. Well worth a visit if you're looking for a true German experience. It's a joint venture with Hotel Romantic, with plenty of indoor seating and limited outdoor seating on the terrace.

The food was delicious. We had to wait outside until a table became available, which they forgot. Once inside, we received our food but no cutlery. We had to ask several times for drinks. We finally settled for a glass of wine because the food was almost cold by then. They could easily have sold us a bottle or two. Despite the delicious food and a friendly waiter, it was a truly disappointing experience. We also saw other guests waiting endlessly. The guy behind the bar gave the impression that everything was too much. It's a real shame. There's so much more to it.

Good intentions meet room for improvement A visit with ups and downs: The Trier barbecue evening began ambitiously but ended with a shrug of the shoulders. What didn't go well? The prices on site were out of line – surprisingly high compared to the online menu. The menu also seems to have gaps: Dishes listed online are missing from the physical menu. That's a shame, especially if you're looking forward to something specific in advance. The meat... well. I ordered it "well done," but it was delivered "raw." Only after the second complaint was the steak served in a compromise version – "medium." By then, however, the anticipation was already as tough as a shoe sole. Late regret, a strong finish. At the end, there was a truly heartfelt apology – Oscar-worthy! An espresso on the house was also offered (at 8 p.m. – brave), which we politely declined. A glass of Moselle wine might have suited the mood better 😉. Conclusion: The basement location has potential – rustic, charming, and atmospheric. But unfortunately, the service is still lacking in professionalism and the online presence is lacking in reality. €26 for a grilled plate with three pieces of meat, beans, a small salad, and four croquettes is also quite a statement – you expect everything to be just right. Maybe it was just a bad day. Maybe we'll give it another chance sometime. Until then, it remains: good intentions, but unfortunately not (yet) a brilliant performance.

We had a wonderful meal here! The cordon bleu was truly delicious. We also enjoyed the onion soup. A rich onion soup. Mmm. For dessert, we had the apple strudel and a cheese tart. I was surprised that it was warm, but that made it even more delicious. Professional, friendly service and good German food. Excellent!!

Very good food and great service

Good value for money, a large selection of food, including local dishes. Friendly staff. We didn't have a reservation, but we were offered a table for 1.5 hours, which was basically plenty of time. It only took about half an hour to get our order taken, as the waiter enjoys chatting with guests.

Delicious food and generous portions in a lovely, rustic restaurant. What I liked most, however, was the service! High praise goes to Johnny, who truly knows his craft and made our visit perfect with his relaxed, open, and humorous manner!

Four of us visited this restaurant. The decor lives up to its name; you're always discovering new things. The service was excellent, attentive, pleasant, and extremely friendly. The food was impeccable, tasty, and very well presented. We highly recommend this restaurant; the value for money is absolutely spot on.

During our stay in Trier, we happened to pass by the Wirtshaus zur Glocke and decided to take a look at the menu for dinner. We weren't disappointed. We had two dishes from the weekly menu, and the food was excellent. The service was attentive and prompt. To finish, we asked for a wine recommendation and were once again impressed. The wine was so good that we stopped by the next day for another glass. We can't comment on the ambiance inside, as we sat outside. The small outdoor area is cozy and, on a side street, away from the traffic. We'd love to go back!

I've rarely experienced such poor service. The food was okay, but we had to discuss the table selection. Then we were only served upon loud request. The glass lampshade at the table was broken; according to other reviews, it had been broken for a while. Not recommended.

The food, staff, and location are top-notch. It's worth mentioning that they serve delicious Kraftbräu from Blesius Garten. I have no idea what could be improved here...simply fantastic👍👌😋

Traditional German restaurant with traditional German food. Great choice of food on the menu, and the portions are good. Staff very friendly and helpful too. Well worth a visit if you are in Trier.

Food three and a half stars, cordon bleu delicious, salad too, fried potatoes pale and lacking salt. The restaurant is rustic and you can feel its history, but the glass hanging lamp was missing half and had sharp edges at head height, and the Viez mug had chipped edges. The service couldn't even be described as attentive. It wasn't busy. No one came for long stretches, and we had to point out the lack of cutlery. We wouldn't go back the next time we're in Trier, and we wouldn't recommend it to others.

What do we have here? A tavern. That means hearty cuisine... Yes, they can do that here. Truly delicious. There are also weekly and seasonal menus. After the asparagus season, chanterelle season has now arrived. Absolutely delicious. Thank you for that. The food is absolutely fine. The service is also top-notch. When the regular staff takes a well-deserved break, it can take a while. As I said, the food is very tasty and we'd be happy to come back. The only drawback here... Too many chipped plates, bowls, and cups. The lampshade above the table was also broken. That's why it only gets 4 stars. Conclusion: Excellent food. Ambience could be improved. We would love to come back.

Excellent location and great service. On this visit I enjoyed a horse steak and quark with bread. This place is a regular stop for me when I visit Trier.

The food was delicious and the waitress was very friendly. Unfortunately, there were considerable wait times, and the chairs aren't particularly comfortable for long periods of sitting. Nevertheless, it's a nice spot in the city center!

Fantastic hotel, great breakfast

The vaulted cellar is very beautiful and has its own lovely tables and bar. My chicken salad was quite large and tasted very good. The appetizer (herb cream cheese with bread) was only so-so, and the wine unfortunately had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. Otherwise, everything was good. My companion was very satisfied with her meal.

A charming, quaint restaurant. We stumbled upon this restaurant on a whim. The older waiter (unfortunately, I forgot his name) was extremely friendly. My recommendation: the horse steak with braised onions definitely gets a thumbs-up. Great "Kraft" beer. All in all, a great restaurant with a great team. We'd be happy to come back if we visit again.
