The vaulted cellar is very beautiful and has its own lovely tables and bar. My chicken salad was quite large and tasted very good. The appetizer (herb cream cheese with bread) was only so-so, and the wine unfortunately had an unpleasant bitter aftertaste. Otherwise, everything was good. My companion was very satisfied with her meal.

A charming, quaint restaurant. We stumbled upon this restaurant on a whim. The older waiter (unfortunately, I forgot his name) was extremely friendly. My recommendation: the horse steak with braised onions definitely gets a thumbs-up. Great "Kraft" beer. All in all, a great restaurant with a great team. We'd be happy to come back if we visit again.

You wait a long time for the food, it's tasty, although there's a lot of lettuce on the plate that's dry and just lies there for decoration, which to me is a waste because not everyone knows what to do with it.

The ambiance is wonderful. Unfortunately, it was also wonderful in this tourist trap. As an entree, water was generously spilled all over the table, and ALL subsequent orders were later slammed somewhere on the table by the waiter. The food was consistently poorly prepared. The horse steak was completely oversalted. 3 out of 4 bread slices were returned. The "flour dumplings" had no flavor at all, even though the delicious recipe is shown on the menu. The so-called "homemade" ice cream was inedible due to repeated freezing with ice crystals and was immediately returned. The waiter had only empty excuses. The bill was only handed over after payment and did not include any discounts. My recommendation: If you don't want to ruin your stay in wonderful Trier by eating at an unworthy restaurant, it's best to just have a beer at the GLOCKE, enjoy the ambiance, and eat at one of the other restaurants in the city.

Totally not worth the visit. I don't know how they got above 4 stars. There is lack of service, but ample attitude from the middle aged blonde. Food is eatable at best, definitely not worth the 25 to 30 Euro per dish. The men servers were okay but constantly had to flag them down. My recommendation is to go elsewhere.

Unfortunately, a couple at the next table was completely ignored and left the restaurant without ordering either. We met again at the restaurant across the street and had a very good meal there. Such a shame!

First of all, the food is very satisfactory, but there are massive problems with the service. After we turn 40! After waiting in vain for minutes to contact the waiter (didn't even clear away the guests' leftovers in front of us), we just went in ourselves to get the menu. Things continued in a similar way until a NICE colleague stepped in and took our order. Note that the waitress noticed how long we had been waiting and she was visibly uncomfortable. The drinks were brought to our table by the waiter responsible for us without comment and there was an unpleasant atmosphere. This mood carried over with the 30 minute wait for the bill. But then came the turning point, the payment. The waiter blossoms, tried again to get everything out of it (tip), and lo and behold, a reasonable conversation is possible... After 2.5 hours of consuming a main course + espresso, the debacle was finally over. Conclusion: You can eat well and enjoy it, but only if you have the time. As a short vacationer with a somewhat tight schedule, I would give the restaurant a wide berth. P.S. The problem with the waiter didn't just happen at our table.

It's not mentioned either on the website or on the menu: But there is a "lunch menu" which actually means you don't get a menu (not even for drinks) and you can only order soup. The staff was very annoyed and unfriendly, especially when asked questions such as what drinks were available. The asparagus soup was sweet and also had sweet cream on it, when we mentioned this we were bluffed about what we would expect and when we said that we were expecting a slightly heartier soup, the waiter leaned over us and ran his finger through the plate to taste it. The onion soup tasted bitter and burnt. We paid just under 40 euros for three soups, two of which we had to return, a cola and a juice spritzer. The ambience was quite nice with shady spots outside. Unfortunately not recommended.

Our horse steaks ordered against rare were well done and we could also taste that it must have been a terribly old horse. Horse steak is beautiful red, juicy, slightly sweet meat. This was grey, dry and tough. Not a pleasant but quite expensive adventure.

That’s right👍👍👍👍 A nice atmosphere👍👍👍 But you need time to pay, at least on the Wednesday we were there. I said twice, each after 10 minutes, that I wanted to pay. No reaction! We then went to the information center and I was no longer patient! Either a daily story?

Clear recommendation. A quaint inn with a good selection of food, especially regional specialties at fair prices. The waitresses are very nice and the location is great. If you like a traditional meal, you should dine here. The bottled wine in a 0.5 jug is also recommended.

Went there around Christmas time with the whole company (approx. 50 people) and were accommodated in the vaulted cellar. The cellar is very beautiful and has its own very pleasant character. The food was very tasty, the portion size was reasonable and the price was therefore justified. Unfortunately, I have to deduct a star from the service because at the beginning there were 2 waitresses for our group and later only 1 waitress was available, which is why it took a little longer until the drinks we ordered were brought (approx. 15 minutes). Otherwise the staff was very nice and friendly. I'd love to come back.

This romantic hotel can also call itself that. Our bright room with a view of the cathedral and balcony was great and quiet. Lots of space and also with a large bathroom. Everything very clean!!! The dinner and also the breakfast were very good. The staff very friendly. Our rating for the service is not so good for the following reason: we had dinner in the beautiful, large vaulted cellar. The organization of only three employees was clearly visible on this Friday evening, March 28, 2025. A waiter behind the bar, a waitress who didn't really know what to do and the third waiter who did everything. Collect food and drinks, cut bread (you could prepare it in advance), serve it and collect it. Our appetizer came before the drinks. During this time there were only 8 guests present. Many guests arrived at the same time and had to wait a long time until the drinks were even served. No wonder if only one waiter does all this!! There is still potential for improvement here in terms of “collaboration” teamwork! But the "only" waiter was great and remained completely calm - compliments 😉 We were happy to give a generous tip for that.

28.03.2025. Wir haben bestellt, Bauernsülze, die war gut und Tagesmenü 2, Putenbulette. Die Bulette war sehr fade gewürzt. Die Kartoffeln waren eiskalt!! Wir haben reklamiert und hatten das Gefühl, die Bedienung war nicht überrascht. Sie sagte nur kurz Entschuldigung und nahm den Teller mit in die Küche. Kurz danach kam sie mit dem Teller zurück. Auf meine Frage sind das jetzt neue, heisse Kartoffeln oder war der Teller jetzt in der Mikrowelle? Sie antwortete, es sind neue Kartoffeln. Komischerweise war der Teller jetzt sehr warm. Also Mikrowelle. Für mich hat die Küche eine grosse Schwachstelle und ist nicht empfehlenswert.

It's not exoensive but german cuisine are realy excellent. there are also many rooms, so enough places but best is to reserve because it can be quick very busy. Decent and solid food in an ancient vaulted cellar with roots from the 11th century. My fried fish was almost certainly convenience, but overall it was okay. Always a safe bet when it comes to not doing anything wrong. There is not only the Bit and Benedictine beer, which takes some getting used to, but also really good, mild Trier wheat beer. The cellar vault is unique, the prices are reasonable and the service is professional.

House names have existed in Trier since around 1240. Around 1784 the houses were given a house number, the house was given the number 1131 in Trier. In 1785, an address book was created for the first time in which the house numbers, the owners of the house and the residents were recorded. The first documented owner was fellow Jewish citizen Calmann Schweich, born around 1713 in Trier, died in 1773 in Trier. In the 1785 address book, the “Calmanns Heirs” are named as the owners; the house was lived in by his son Süßkind. Until around this time, there was a mikveh, a Jewish ritual bath, in the house. Since you had to go down at least 7 steps to the water level, it is likely that it was built in the vaulted cellar. The inlet and outlet pipes that still exist today could indicate this. There is still a deep well in the exit to the cellar that reaches down to the groundwater. You can see from the remains of the wall that it reached down to the ground floor at that time. According to the 1797 address book, the house still belonged to "The Jews", but was lived in by the high court lay judge Johann Josef Nikolaus Nalbach. He was baptized on September 20, 1756 in Saint Laurentius, as the son of the court councilor Johann Heinrich Nalbach and Anna Maria Nacher. He died on March 31, 1808 in Trier. The house was sold around 1803 and an inn was set up. One of the first innkeepers was probably Nikolaus Lamberty. He is named as the owner and landlord in the address books from 1837 to 1867. Around 1850 the house numbers were reassigned section by section. The house was now in Section I No. 63. In 1875, a Johann Haas was named as the innkeeper. After that, a Peter Josef Schon was the landlord. His widow is recorded as a landlady in 1879. In 1886 the house belonged to the pensioner Franz Zimmer, and he had leased the inn to Bernhard Sterk. After being renumbered, it was now located at Glockenstrasse 12. From 1896, when Franz Zimmer was the owner, the innkeeper was called Albert Buschmann. Until 1906 the house was called “Zur wilden Gans” and was renamed “Zur Glocke”. Buschmann also ran the business under the new owner, the businessman B. Oberhoffer. In 1909 the house was built under architect Franz.J. Kuhn rebuilt. From 1912 to 1914 the owner was Josef Blasius, whft. Krahnenufer 11, registered

It's a shame, it could have been a nice evening. Three onion soups were ordered as a starter but only two were brought, which can happen. But the one that was delivered later was significantly smaller. When the waiter was asked about it, he was sorry and would “make it up to you.” When we asked in the kitchen, he told us that the contents were exactly the same. We felt pretty foolish at that point. It can also happen that the waiter then pours part of a shandy bottle over the guest's shoulder with the smaller onion soup. But the fact that neither the shandy was exchanged nor the guest who was hit was offered compensation (perhaps a free drink) and then at the end the full amount was deducted from the smaller onion soup, that cannot be true. We were a group of 8 people and will certainly draw our conclusions from it.

We were there for the first time. I immediately noticed that the clientele was predominantly older. My companion said that this was probably because the prices were also high. 😉 The food was very good. The staff could have been a little more attentive. But they are very nice. The basement below is truly spectacular and offers a lovely, rustic atmosphere. There is nothing to criticize about the service and the selection on the menu is also well mixed. The only point that bothers me is the fried potatoes, they were missing some spice and in my opinion they could have been fried a little hotter.

Unfortunately there was no restaurant. Price-performance doesn't fit. - We made reservations for a group of 16 people and ordered food in advance. Still a very long wait. Service was a bit overwhelmed. So my starter came after my main course. My meal was ok but not a highlight. Prices are overall quite high. There are much better restaurants in the Trier area. Therefore no recommendation here.

I really liked the Wirtshaus zur Glocke, next to the Hotel zur Glocke in Trier. I've been there several times now, both for lunch and dinner. It is a historic, traditional house in downtown Trier, with plenty of parking nearby if you're lucky. 😉 Everything I've eaten there so far has tasted good, and the price-performance ratio is also okay. The staff is competent and friendly and I particularly like the rustic interior design. Next time I'm there I'll try the local Viez. Can't take much longer because I like to be in Trier more often. :-)

Food was tasty but there wasn't much choice. Rooms very nice staff GREAT. Unfortunately there are no parking spaces only in one parking garage and it's a challenge around Advent.

One of the last old restaurants in the city center. Today, all the others have become Kölch pubs, potato houses, or perfumeries. Very tasty, down-to-earth dishes. Good beer and even better viez. What more does it take? Just keep it up...

A beautiful restaurant, with a very traditional style. We went in December for dinner and everything was decorated with many Christmas details. The interior is cozy, warm, and not very noisy. The menu is brief, a handful of traditional dishes well cooked and presented, although with fairer quantities than in many other restaurants in the country and at a higher price. Be careful with the price of water, more expensive than a beer. If you don't mind liver, ask for it, they prepare it very well.

With 3 people we were able to experience very friendly service and excellent food made from fresh ingredients. Goose leg, chop and beef cheeks were very tasty. Finally, an espresso each. We were more than satisfied all around.

Very enjoyable experience and really good food. Staff were exceptionally friendly and quick, making sure we didn’t miss anything during our visit. They were helpful and professional and at no point did we feel as if they were coming to us in order to urge us to leave. This is particularly annoying in some restaurants but was not the case here.

We had dinner here as part of a hotel stay. There was a goose dinner in keeping with the season. We were very excited about the roast goose here as we have already had bad experiences. We weren't disappointed. The whole menu was of very good quality, especially the main course was very good. The atmosphere is that of an old inn and is well attended. Without a reservation it is difficult to get a place. The waitresses take some getting used to - similar to a Cologne Köbe - but then they are very nice and helpful. All in all a successful evening.

Rump steak for 30€... In return I got a steak with convenience croquettes and sauce. Plus overcooked and over-seasoned bacon beans. Very disappointing and not recommended!

The staff was unfriendly, and the food was a disaster. After we complained that the food didn't match our order and asked them to change it, the staff became aggressive and insulted us!

Oysters from La Provençale Luxembourg delivered via the Rungis wholesale market in Paris, like probably everything else. It doesn't get any fresher... still in the water in the morning, on the table by lunchtime. Top-notch, fresh, delicious produce, beautifully prepared by a highly motivated chef and served by equally motivated and friendly staff. I'm thrilled 😊👍 I'd also like to mention the dishwashing staff, who occasionally have to leave the kitchen and then pass through the back of the restaurant with a very friendly greeting. My advice: Try the fish soup, it's good enough to make you fall to your knees 🤗😋 I drive 70km there and back to eat with you. Today, June 14, 2025, they had a delicious potato soup with crayfish 😋

Very good food, I have one suggestion for improvement. Boule a la Mer is served with rice in France. I would offer it with fries upon request.
