Altes Brauhaus Trier in Trier

I walked in by chance: the girls were very kind, the mixed salad was generous and beautifully dressed, and I even accidentally discovered a delicious seasonal beer I hadn't heard of. Candlelit tables, a soft glow, a warm and pleasantly welcoming atmosphere. The phrase prominently displayed on the menu, "The world belongs to those who enjoy it," casts even Leopardi—apparently, the author—in a less gloomy light than usual!

Good food at reasonable prices. They had a Christmas beer. Very tasty.

Never again! Frozen schnitzel, salad from a bucket, the Trier butcher's platter is a joke, and ready-made mashed potatoes.

I called on a whim to see if there was any availability and it worked out perfectly. The staff are very friendly and the service is very fast. The food and drinks are excellent. I'd gladly come again.

My husband is a chef himself, so admittedly the bar is set high. At around €20 for a salad with goat cheese, one can expect good quality even without a restaurant background. My salad arrived on a far too small plate and without the roasted walnuts listed on the menu. I pointed this out and five minutes later received a tiny bowl of walnuts from a package and had to ask again why they hadn't been roasted. Ten minutes later, I got the same bowl back, this time the nuts were burnt on one side and still unroasted on the other. Apparently, a quick toss in the pan was too much work. In the meantime, I had almost finished the goat cheese from the salad before it got cold. What was annoying here were the slices of bread under the cheese rounds. It's a possible way to do it, but not when the whole thing is then sitting in an unappetizingly acidic vinegar broth, soaking it up to the point where the delicate cheese flavor is completely lost. The dressing was so acidic that I sent more than half of it back. No bread was served with the salad either. When I asked, I was told that bread was only available upon request. There's nothing wrong with asking before bringing bread. But the request should come from the server, not the customer! My husband's fish and chips were halfway decent. The breading was crispy, and so were the fries; there's not much more to say about that—but you can't really go wrong with fish and chips. I would be very surprised if a trained chef were working here; if so, they obviously weren't in the mood today. I'm giving one point for the waitress's hard work in trying to salvage the situation and another for the pleasant ambiance. We declined the offer of a free dessert, though. Unfortunately, the food here isn't good.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food has deteriorated drastically. It's a shame, we always enjoyed going to the brewery. The new owner should consider hiring a new chef. The food is very poor – the fries are greasy, the salad is very oily, and the price is far too high. The service, however, is very friendly.

A very nice restaurant with a lovely menu and reasonable prices. It can get a bit noisy when it's full. I had a steak tartare, which you could even prepare yourself. Very nice!

We visited the brewery for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. The food was excellent, with delicious mussels and the best cordon bleu we've had anywhere else. The service was attentive and very friendly. We've already made another reservation for next week. 👍

Great service, very friendly, but the food, we were there for the second time today, unfortunately we were not impressed at all. Schnitzel and Cordon Bleu, the breading was very thick and salty, the Cordon Bleu looked good but unfortunately only filled at the end, the meat was very dry, it's not our thing.

The dish was too salty. I'm really not picky. Okay. I complain. I wait a quarter of an hour. I'm offered an alternative dish. OK. It arrives 10 minutes later. My friends have already finished theirs. In the end, I'm not even offered a coffee. Not even an apology. That's it for me with this place.

Odered jager schnitzel to collect myself ( takeaway) I was 5 mins early it was ready....good start so I thought.....I live just 5 mins away....got home looking forward to one of my favourites......then everything went dowhill ....2 old shoe soles hard as iron( certainly not chewable) a sauce supposed to be jager.....you could have used for building things....looked like something you may collect on your shoe after walking the dog. Then some white stuff, I assume was the salad dressing.......I dare to think where that came from.....threw it all in the rubbish bin. I'm no expert at all but that was absolutely unedible,.....really. I used to frequent this place many moons ago.....it was good.....but now I'm afraid to say I'd sooner have a slice of toast at home.....never again.

We were there on Sunday, were politely escorted to our table, and that was it. After twenty minutes of being ignored, we left without any success. For us, it's no longer worth the trip.

Always enjoyed eating there, starter salad good, fries and paprika sauce OK, schnitzel (what was that?) two small round things, from the deep fryer, even there not left in long enough, so there is definitely some catching up to do here, that's not possible, frozen food from the freezer.

The food was far too much, resulting in a lot of waste. The staff was unresponsive, curt, and unfriendly. After eating, we waited 45 minutes without being asked if we wanted anything else. We left without dessert, etc.

We're not from the area and were looking for a good schnitzel. After a quick Google search, we came across this place and decided to try something new. The surprise was a success. Super, super good home-style cooking, and they even served mussels, my personal favorite. The service was exceptionally friendly, and we went home happy and full! Thank you so much, we'd love to come back for more.

I always enjoyed eating there. Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, some of the service staff were rather disorganized and forgetful. Even worse, the portions have gotten smaller, but the price has gone up! It used to be two large schnitzels on a plate, which was really filling! Now it's half a portion, two small schnitzels for about €2 more! It's a real shame! Please don't make this a habit. I'm willing to pay a few euros more, but the portions should stay the same!

We stopped in today while passing through and were pleasantly surprised: a very cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food! We could have gotten lost, but unfortunately, we had to move on. We'd be happy to return anytime we're in the area. If you're looking for a good inn with charming character, this is the place for you. Thank you very much!

It hasn't been the same since the change of ownership. The waitress walked past a bun before we could order our food. It took us 20 minutes to get our food. An hour later we got our food. The fried potatoes were burnt. The woman who took the food out spilled the sauce from the schnitzel onto another guest. Half of the fries fell off the plate too. The soup was very oversalted. Overall, it was a bad experience. I would never go back.

A very nice and clean restaurant, and the staff was very attentive and friendly. We had the Brauhaus schnitzel, which was good, but a bit stronger in flavor would have been perfect. The three-course dessert was disappointing for me. But we will come again.

The food was delicious. We had tarte flambée with bacon (crispy and well-seasoned) and fried potatoes with schnitzel (deliciously prepared and crispy) for the kids. We had a side salad (a generous portion) and an Indian dish (vegetarian starter). Everyone was very satisfied with their meals and everyone was full. We sat on the terrace, which was very rustic and cozy with cushions and sheltered from the wind. We would gladly go back.

What a shame! The atmosphere was actually quite nice. BUT the food was abysmal. We've rarely been served such over-salted convenience food. We had schnitzel with champignon cream sauce, brewery schnitzel with dark beer sauce, and spaghetti. The sauces really ruined the mediocre schnitzel. Even the tomato sauce for the spaghetti was inedible. Bulk convenience food prepared without love. Not recommended for eating.

The staff is very dedicated and attentive. The food, both in terms of quality and selection, is well above the expected brewery standard. Particularly noteworthy are the crisp salad topping and the Munster cheese in the Flammewaie.

Lasst Euch nicht von Aüsserlichkeiten täuschen! Ein einfach eingerichtetes aber sauberes Lokal mit viele Plätze innen und ein grosser Biergarten dahinter, sehr schön und geschützt zum sitzen. Das Personal ist freundlich. Wartezeiten, auf Service und Essen, gar nicht lang. Das Essen - naja, seid gewarnt, bringt großen Hunger mit! Die Portionen sind sehr großzügig, die Preise überraschend Fair. Der Bauernschnitzel, 2 Fleischstücke, hat meinem Mann fast zum Aufgeben gebracht. Die Bratkartoffel dazu genau wie man sie sich wünscht. Der Salat super frisch. Die Ziegenkäse Tartine, eigentlich eine Vorspeise, war super lecker und für mich mehr als ausreichend. Wie waren zu Fuß dort, aber es scheint weniger Parkplätze vorhanden zu sein. Wären wir öfter in Trier, wären wir bestimmt öfter im Brauhaus😊

This aging brewery, if you look at it from the outside, is a cozy, clocky and rustic brewery inside. The staff was friendly, attentive and our 🐕 was taken care of first. I'm a bit sorry to deduct 1 star because of Tkschnitzel with ready-made breading. However, the champion and pepper sauce was amazing. The fries were on point and the salad was super fresh and delicious. I wouldn't hesitate to dine here if I'm in the area again.

A small highlight is the original and humorous saying on the menu, which immediately puts a smile on your face and shows that attention is paid to details. To eat, the salad was really excellent - fresh, crunchy and with a perfectly balanced dressing that underlined the taste wonderfully. The schnitzel, on the other hand, unfortunately couldn't quite maintain this positive impression. It was solid, but rather middle-of-the-road in terms of taste and didn't set any special accents compared to the rest of the offering. Despite this small flaw, the overall impression of the restaurant remains positive. The mix of great service, appealing atmosphere and some outstanding dishes definitely make it worth a visit. I can recommend it with a clear conscience - perhaps also to discover the rest of the menu, which certainly has further highlights.

The quality of the food used to be much better. Overall, the food was relatively tasteless, but the salad dressing was artificially over-seasoned. The champion cream sauce was soggy with little flavor and kick and canned champions were used. We've definitely eaten much better there.

We ate here on Boxing Day, had also made a reservation, but found a menu that we didn't quite like, the prices were raised quite a bit, which we were very surprised about, but the food was still good as always!

Arrive and feel good. No frills, just the old-style neighborhood hangout/pub/restaurant, of which unfortunately there aren't that many anymore!

Brewery with a “special” concept On the menu you will find, among other things, mussels, snails, tarte flambée and that Brauhausschnitzel. The latter will appeal to anyone who likes large portions (probably pre-breaded) in the deep fryer prepared pork with a wonderful ready-made sauce. Unfortunately it wasn't my case because the chef didn't see any added value in it. The salad was good. We had to sit at the counter even though an hour later many tables were still unoccupied (perhaps a tour group's bus was late). For me there are better alternatives in Trier.

Rustic-looking gastronomy, with very tasty dishes and countless, attentive waitresses. Whatever could no longer be eaten was packed up and we were able to take it with us.

Service was on point and friendly. Everything clean and tastefully decorated. Luckily we got a table without making a reservation. The food was good except for the fries. Salted too lightly (but there is a salt shaker on the table). The herb butter and the lard (bread as a starter) also lacked a certain oomph. Still recommended.

Actually very disappointing, we wanted to go back to the old brewery in Trier, we hadn't been there for a long time, now we had new dishes all well and good but oriental dishes in the brewery I go out to eat oriental, of course we concentrated on the classic brewery cuisine Unfortunately, the fries were not properly fried, and the quality was generally different than on our last visit. Charming Belgian/French. Brasserie/German brewery/dining room crossover with eye-pleasing lighting design and a very attentive service team as well as a diverse menu. From fine Catalan tapas to herby snail pans and spicy mussels cooked in a cream-mustard-white wine root vegetable stock to hearty schnitzel and cordon bleu plates, a gastronomy that represents the border triangle and beyond has really been achieved that you cannot find in this dreary corner of Trier find suspected. The light lager is also a light, sparkling delight and rewards you for the trip beyond the tourist mile between the Porta and the basilica. I'm already looking forward to my next stop there!

We were in Trier for 4 days and had dinner 4 times. We were never disappointed and we were also pleasantly surprised at the Altes Brauhaus. Even though the place was completely full, we were served quickly and friendly. The service as well as the quality and quantity of the food left nothing to be desired. The price-performance ratio is good there.

Difficult... ordered a table for 2 people... since all (!) tables were free (5 p.m.), we sat down at a table for 4... then the waitress shouted in a loud voice from the restaurant outside: "Table of 2... not table of 4... so two, not four..." now it will be difficult to find it hospitable when you have just arrived... no problem if someone comes and tells you that the table cannot be occupied... It's good that my wife quickly gave a level-headed but also clear answer... I would have chosen a different choice of words and would have preferred to drive straight back... we don't want to be like that stupid "supplicants" feel when we want to leave our money there... Starter bread basket (very tasty, fresh bread) with dip, lard and herb butter... Unfortunately, herb butter came out of the fridge and "shredded" the great bread.. . but ok... you can wait until the butter has softened and you don't have to make loops... Main course cordon bleu and fish and chips... both very tasty... service at the table was also very friendly and nice ... that ripped out the number, otherwise we would have been annoyed that we had spent around 70 euros... but there is still a bad aftertaste... It's a shame, because we had better memories of the location in the past.. .

Wonderful mussels a la provencale!!! Please never make the brew any other way... Really perfect! The steak was also excellent. Cooked exactly as desired with a perfect crust. Service friendly, competent and quick. Always happy to come back!

Restaurant just half full. 3 service staff. Waited over 35 minutes for the drink order to be taken. Drinks came. A drink wrong is a non-carbonated cola. Simply cheeky.

Can't say anything about the food. It didn't come to that. After 45 minutes we hadn't ordered anything to drink or eat. It started when a waitress sat us at another table for which she was no longer responsible. Apparently she didn't feel like going that evening anymore. You don't know. Absolutely overwhelmed and the store wasn't even full! I cannot recommend the restaurant nor will I ever visit it again.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, unfortunately we didn't get to eat, we waited 35 minutes alone until we were asked for drinks and then another 15 minutes until we received our drinks, so our hunger went away.

Found this great restaurant thanks to Google. We had bread with greaves, a brewery schnitzel and fish and chips. Great taste and plentiful. The side dish was great and unique for us in this size and also in terms of the dressing. All products freshly prepared. A great Riesling wine and a delicious cellar beer. The service was very friendly and always present. A great restaurant with a unique beer garden atmosphere. We would love to come back on Friday and are already looking forward to it. Parking is possible in front of the restaurant.

We went there spontaneously on a Wednesday evening without a reservation and got a nice table on the outside terrace without any problems. There is a daily menu with some extras, but also a menu with great down-to-earth dishes. I had a pale cellar beer, which is highly recommended, and my husband had a Riesling. At first we couldn't decide what to eat because there was such a great selection. We decided on bread with greaves to start with, I had fish and chips and my husband had the schnitzel in black beer sauce. The quantities were large and it was very tasty. The service was friendly, competent and always available. Price/performance completely justified. We paid €53 for 3 drinks, the 2 main courses and the starter. Completely fine, in our opinion. We'd love to come back on Friday, but this time with a reservation. Then there are sardines for me and half a chicken for my husband. It really looked very good at the table next door. Also worth mentioning is the extraordinary side salad, the likes of which we have never had anywhere else. We also leave out the starter on Friday, maybe. Then dessert is fine. 😁Great gastronomy with a wonderful flair. If we're in Trier again, we'll definitely be happy to come back. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Brauhaus culture at its best. Home-brewed cellar beer and great regionality in the food and rarely such nice service.

During our two-day stay in Trier, we were looking for a nice restaurant with a beer garden for the evening and found the Altes Brauhaus. We chose the “Schnitzel in pepper sauce” and the “Brauhausschnitzel in black beer sauce”. The food was very good. The service staff were always friendly, polite and with a smile on their faces. The beer garden completes the great ambience in this restaurant. We liked it so much that after eating we booked a table for the following day. A reservation makes sense as the restaurant is very busy. The portions are decent and the price-performance ratio is very good.

Beautifully designed restaurant inside and out. Our service was very attentive and friendly. On the other hand, another older lady rudely brought us the salads and hung her stomach almost in my face. A bit too pushy and rough for me. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as expected! Fries were way too dry and served without sauce or anything. Unfortunately the meat was very tough, it took a long time to chew, and the high price wasn't justified! All in all, ok for a little something or something to drink but not more than a main dinner. Dear guests of the old brewery in Trier Hl. Kreuz, About three years ago I ordered a simple schnitzel with fries and salad in this restaurant, which had a great atmosphere. What I got was this: A schnitzel, similar in taste to breaded cardboard, Fries fried in probably old or stored fat, Salad drenched in a third rate bucket salad dressing. I let the food go back. Today (July 21, 2024) I was persuaded by some friends to go there again to have dinner. I ordered cordon bleu with fried potatoes. Price €24.90 So far so good! What I got was this: A Cordon Bleu made from ONE schnitzel rolled up like a roulade, a very small, darkly fried portion of fried potatoes (rather burnt) Salad in the same sauce as three years ago. Of course I let the food go back. I'm now approaching 60 and have eaten in almost every restaurant in Trier, but never as bad as in the old Brauhaus zu Hl. Kreuz. I can only advise you to invest your money in restaurants that deserve this name. If it were possible, I wouldn't give a star.🤷 Greetings to everyone who has taste!
