Fantastic food, great service, we were here for our Christmas party, highly recommended!

The food was delicious, the staff very friendly, but overwhelmed due to the number of guests (work Christmas party).

Arrived without a reservation on a Friday during the Christmas market. Superb welcome. Impeccable service with a waiter who spoke four languages. Delicious and generous portions. Fair price for the quality offered. €170 for 4 people: 1 flammekueche, 4 main courses, 4 beers as an aperitif, 1 bottle of wine (€25), and 2 espressos. Beautiful interior.

Never again overpriced food, no taste, not recommended.

The restaurant is a bit old-fashioned and conservative, but the fish dishes are good. It's also very centrally located.

A French bistro atmosphere is promised... and it delivers. Delicious mussels once again, prepared classically in white wine broth. Good wines, lovely outdoor seating, and a prime location.

Everything was great. Unfortunately, not a single vegetable dish.

A very good location for dinner in Trier. We had a selection of surf & turf and appetizers, and it was really good. The wine list also offers a great selection. However, you can't go without a reservation, as the place was completely full. A definite recommendation.

The schnitzel with mushrooms was very tasty. You pay the price for the touristy location. The staff speaks very good English.

We had a great lunch on September 19th. We tried to get a table that evening. Unfortunately, the two of us were turned away. Behind us, a small group was waiting who were given a table, and they also hadn't reserved. It was disappointing that there was a double standard. Despite the excellent lunch the day before, we won't be back. It's a real shame.

We managed to get a table for two without a reservation, with a direct view of the Porta Nigra. The service was friendly and professional, while the food was truly mediocre. For starters, we had the prawn pan in garlic olive oil and dried herbs – and they didn't skimp on it, which unfortunately had a rather negative effect on the flavor, as you couldn't taste anything other than the intense dried herbs. The olives in it didn't blend well either. For our main course, we had the Wiener Schnitzel with mushroom sauce, which was good overall – the meat was juicy and the breading was crispy, tasting of clarified butter. The second main course was the Portuguese-style king prawns in garlic olive oil and tomatoes. This dish was also unimpressive. Despite asking if they were fresh – meaning not frozen – the prawns unfortunately didn't taste like fresh prawns. It's possible that the shrimp were freshly delivered, but they were probably frozen in the restaurant to preserve their freshness. Since we eat fresh seafood very often, we can judge what it should taste like—both in terms of flavor and texture. Overall, a nice restaurant with friendly service and a good selection of dishes, although the cooking still needs some improvement.

The provincial chicken was very tasty. The terrace was clean. The service wasn't great, even though it was very quiet and the staff were joking around and wandering around.

We spontaneously dropped in on a warm Thursday evening. We received a friendly welcome. We didn't have a reservation, but unfortunately the terrace, which offers a great view of the Porta Nigra, was fully booked. The waitress showed us to a table in the restaurant, which was also packed. The atmosphere is pleasant and the clientele is diverse. We ordered drinks and food (baked goat cheese on beetroot carpaccio & wild boar sausage with fried potatoes, fried egg, and salad). The carpaccio could have been a bit more seasoned. The prices are moderate and the quality is very good. We felt at home and would gladly return.

Unfortunately, during my visit today, I couldn't quite share the enthusiasm of other reviewers: I was looking forward to a French-inspired restaurant, with an ambiance and food quality above the typical restaurant average – at least, that's how the restaurant sells itself online. I ordered half a grilled lobster, looking forward to a pleasant experience at the end of my stay in Trier. None of my expectations were truly met: right from the start, a salad drenched in yogurt dressing (!) arrived, without any comment. My question as to whether there was any bread and butter was initially denied – they're usually available in France… Then the unfriendly waiter admitted it was, nicely but almost offended. After 15 minutes, the food arrived: the half lobster was unfortunately quite small, fried to perfection, but the side dishes didn't quite match the standard: dry fries, no mayonnaise… maybe that's what you'd eat somewhere, but certainly not in France. My request for mayonnaise was promptly answered with a plastic bottle of Heitmann mayonnaise – oh dear! The glass wines I tried were okay, but of course, they couldn't compensate for the disappointment. Conclusion: good German food – if you're looking for something special, go elsewhere...

A lovely restaurant in Trier's old town, with a friendly first impression. A waitress said she would get us a table for three inside. But as soon as we got inside, she said, friendly but firm, that the free tables were "reserved for guests in case it rains outside." A curious concept: Anyone who comes in dry isn't allowed to sit – anyone who sits outside and might get wet later is. As charming as the staff was, this logic led us to go somewhere else. Hospitality looks different.

An absolute regular! We've never been disappointed and eat there about once a month. Excellent quality, everything is always fresh, and the service is excellent. The terrace is especially cozy in summer. Even in winter, the SIM's winter lounge offers a cozy corner for a warm mulled wine.

We were here at the restaurant for a celebration. The service and food actually deserve 10 points/stars. It was the best meal we've had in a long time. Compliments to the kitchen.

The food was excellent, but unfortunately, some of the service wasn't. We initially waited at the entrance to the terrace for a seat and were ignored. Our first server at the table wasn't particularly service-oriented. The hours of cutlery sorting from the kitchen window unfortunately somewhat spoiled the ambiance on the terrace. It's a shame, given the location, the good food, and the delicious wine, the evening could have ended perfectly.

I'm from Munich visiting my cousin and his girlfriend in Trier, and we went to SIM for a beer today. I've rarely experienced such unfriendly service.

What a great place to sit outside of the Porta Nigra and enjoy great food and local wine. We ate here twice on our visit to this lovely city.

The toilet at the ZUR SIM brasserie doesn't want to attract attention - and it succeeds in doing so brilliantly. Simple materials, high-contrast wall design, everything clean and functional. Not a place to linger, but one that does what it's supposed to do - without drama. The tiled floor knows no pity, but also no stains. Here we don't brag, we deliver - just like in the kitchen: honest, unfussy, good. Not a place for selfies, but a reliable retreat after tartare, coq au vin or crème brûlée.

My son and I just happened upon this place for dinner and we were happy we did since the food, service and atmosphere were all first rate. I definitely recommend dining here.

Very very tasty food. The quality is just right! The service is very friendly and attentive. The selection of food is very good and you can also get some more unusual dishes, which I really like. It's very comfortable to sit inside and it's also really comfortable outside. Of course the view of the Porta Nigra is great :-) I always enjoy coming back to eat here. Keep it up.

Relaxed, cozy atmosphere, food good and plentiful, but the degree of doneness of the steaks still needs to be worked on, which unfortunately wasn't right for any of us 5. Very constructive handling of complaints, we'll be happy to come back.

It was fine, but not necessarily good. I had the smashed burger. I like what they do with the relish, but for the money I paid I expected more. We also had loaded fries, which I didn't think was really loaded either. The location was fine. Nice place and it looks neat inside too. The toilet was modern, but the men's toilet was really dirty. Glasses completely covered in urine and there was a yellow cloth in the urinior.

Honestly, I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews. The food tastes like a TOURIST place. A good view of Porta Nigra and that’s probably all. I don’t understand how you can make such tasteless potatoes. I ordered local trout, as indicated on the menu, but it was also wrong 🥲 the presentation looks nice, even the sauce doesn’t save the taste. The place is suitable for those who are very hungry. We ate together, both were dissatisfied. 2 glasses of wine + 2 main courses cost us 70 €. For this amount you can dine at another establishment.

Very nice staff and great, fresh, home-made food

The basics, like a simple beer, are expensive, but you get an incredible ambient view of the Porta Nigra at night. We were there in winter and really enjoyed it! Tip for kindness: Prices down another 2 euros, then I'll order more and the tip will definitely be better 😉

This is not a restaurant... in my opinion a village pub! If you love loud roaring, you should go here. Here is the detailed review: I arrived at 9:45 p.m. I came in, said hello. I wasn't greeted, but 2 employees looked at their watch. Another employee comes around the corner and looks at his watch 😅 Then the lady asked me if I would come for a drink because the kitchen was in 10 minutes. Closes. I said I would order straight away because I know what I like to eat. Then it was ok and I was given a table. The employees were very friendly, but the greeting should have been different than just looking at the clock... especially all at the same time, even though they are open until night. Only the kitchen closes at 10 p.m. I sat down, ordered and the order was ready within 10 minutes, really quick and fresh. Schnitzel with fries were definitely good. Unfortunately, no one came to me during the half hour meal to bring me something to drink or mayonnaise for the fries. Asking at least once in between if everything is ok would have been good. At the end someone came and asked if everything was ok. Very friendly but unfortunately too late What I definitely have to get rid of is that it was definitely way too loud in the 40 minutes I was there. Loud to terribly loud laughter and bawling at various tables. This is not a restaurant but more of a village pub with food. At least that was the impression. I will go there again soon and edit my review accordingly. It could be that it was just a bad moment. What you also have to say is that all the employees were definitely friendly. But if all employees look at the clock before you say hello back, it's not a good feeling. Food was good. But it was a terrible volume. I didn't feel well and paid exactly 20 € for 1 schnitzel with fries and a coke. Somehow it wasn't worth it to me. But because of the good schnitzel. Overall package failed. Too bad about the cook.

We were in the SIM with a larger group and had a separate room. The food is super delicious and highly recommended. I had, among other things, the shrimp pan and the steak with fries. Also the dessert selection for dessert. Unfortunately, the service was not very attentive that evening as the restaurant was very busy overall. It would be an organizational advantage if you had more service staff in advance for evenings with larger groups booked. Unfortunately, we were left stranded too often and the service staff sometimes overlooked us in the next room. Even though the food was delicious, it's a shame that groups have a pot of fries put on the table to share and it's not refilled. You should take into account that with the prices everyone gets their own ordered food and for this location you don't just put a pot of fries on the table to share. The serving variation is also quite meager for the price - unfortunately not a good price-performance ratio, even if the taste is convincing. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and we had a great evening as a group. I would like to come back more times for the steak and the delicious shrimp pan. I excuse the lack of service by citing the busyness that evening. Actually three stars, but because the taste is convincing, it's four stars!

For a Sunday lunch: Calm restaurant and really tasty food. The dish was Pasta with mushroom ragout and surprised me with the tasty sauce and juicy meat.

There was a human hair in my salad, which was really gross. And instead of decent compensation, I received a cake that was supposed to look like a brownie, warmed up in the microwave. While we ate for +/- €100. Then more can be expected. This costs the restaurant less than €5. The atmosphere was bad anyway. There were way too many staff doing nothing and watching me empty my plate. And steak was poorly prepared, extremely tough and thick piece of meat. Way too expensive for the quality and very poor service.

A wonderful menu with French dishes that keep their promises. The service is very attentive and friendly. There is a drinks menu with a large selection of different wines, liqueurs and gins. All in all, the SIM is always worth a visit.

Small winter terrace with occasional live music. Handy to know. You pay a deposit for your glass on the winter terrace.

We were here for the first time today and had a very nice evening! Very attentive, friendly and professional staff! The Vitello Tonnato was great! The steak, cordon bleu and veal schnitzel was equally excellent! Everything was very fresh and beautifully prepared... the pepper sauce was great and the side salads were also great... the dressing was bold and tasty... completely to our liking! The dessert, creme brulee and the Sim mix were a great ending... a perfect creme brulee.. great cheesecake and berry sorbet! We can highly recommend this restaurant, but definitely make a reservation! ... Update: The salads are great and the view of the porta from the terrace is great too! Update July 2023: We were very disappointed with the end of the evening today... we spent the evening here for dinner and paid after 4 hours... we spontaneously decided not to change but to have a drink here... as the waiter When we wanted to cash in, we discovered that we had been charged one round too much for three drinks. When we pointed this out, the waiter was extremely unfriendly. It can happen that things are recorded incorrectly or too much, but the reaction was really incredibly unprofessional! Among other things, he told us that we only wanted a drink on the house?! We left quite a bit of money that evening and surely we didn't need to get a drink on the house?!? It's really a shame that the evening ended in what was actually a good restaurant... Update... We went back some time later and wanted to give the SIM another chance...everything was very tasty and the staff was also very friendly :)

Guys... we have never experienced anything better, more comfortable and friendlier in terms of service. And we are from Düsseldorf and have already traveled a long way. Experiencing all of this at Christmas time in tranquil Trier and then in SIM was great. The food, one cordon bleu and the other rump stick with pepper, mushrooms and onions, was terrific. In addition, this mega-nice and friendly service, unfortunately we didn't ask her name, was "top shelf". Thank you dear SIM team for the great and delicious evening. We had dinner there for a birthday celebration. I had a Cordon Bleu which was really good, my wife had the mussels which also tasted great, but the salads and the tartare also looked great. There is a wide selection of wines on the menu. We'll be back, it was a successful evening with great food and drinks.

Friendly welcome. When we said we were just coming for a drink, it was a bit less. Then had to wait a very long time. People who arrived after us and ordered food had their drinks (and even starters) before we got our drinks.

We had booked a table for many people long in advance and were turned away. We had a journey of over two hours and no effort was made to present us with an alternative. EDIT: It is incorrect that we booked through the website. We booked the table by phone and were also able to give the date of the call. So we only received confirmation verbally.

We were here with a group of people and the food and wine was outstanding! Likewise the service and the ambience, a reservation is definitely necessary here! Location at Porta Nigra is well located. 4 stars as motivation to stay at the level or to slightly improve one or two things - you are scratching the 5 star! TIP: We had booked the “Römer & Riesling” package through the tourist information office…Mega: hotel, meal at the SIM with wine accompaniment, city tour, amphitheater adventure tour (also great with kids) and a vineyard tour with wine tasting and delicious food for an unbeatable price , the arrangement is a TOP recommendation! Trier is worth it!

Very tasty food but quite noisy atmosphere

Very crowded and therefore a bit noisy, but comfortably furnished and delicious food. Service was very attentive and nice. Price performance is certainly justified.

More of a tourist hotspot with the atmosphere of a train station. You get the feeling that the whole of Trier is walking through the dining room to toilets that aren't really clean. It's not clear to us that people seriously allow something like this. To eat: tarte flambée great, cordon bleu ordinary and clearly room for improvement. Drinks chilled, layman's almost helpless advice on the wine list and that in this region! Service seemed overwhelmed. Ambience only one star for the reasons mentioned above. A lot needs to happen here...
