Brasserie ZUR SIM in Trier

What a great place to sit outside of the Porta Nigra and enjoy great food and local wine. We ate here twice on our visit to this lovely city.

The toilet at the ZUR SIM brasserie doesn't want to attract attention - and it succeeds in doing so brilliantly. Simple materials, high-contrast wall design, everything clean and functional. Not a place to linger, but one that does what it's supposed to do - without drama. The tiled floor knows no pity, but also no stains. Here we don't brag, we deliver - just like in the kitchen: honest, unfussy, good. Not a place for selfies, but a reliable retreat after tartare, coq au vin or crème brûlée.

The cordon bleu was very tasty, friendly and attentive service

My son and I just happened upon this place for dinner and we were happy we did since the food, service and atmosphere were all first rate. I definitely recommend dining here.

Very very tasty food. The quality is just right! The service is very friendly and attentive. The selection of food is very good and you can also get some more unusual dishes, which I really like. It's very comfortable to sit inside and it's also really comfortable outside. Of course the view of the Porta Nigra is great :-) I always enjoy coming back to eat here. Keep it up.

Delicious coffee and creme brulee

Relaxed, cozy atmosphere, food good and plentiful, but the degree of doneness of the steaks still needs to be worked on, which unfortunately wasn't right for any of us 5. Very constructive handling of complaints, we'll be happy to come back.

Beautiful location with a great view of the Porta Nigra.

It was fine, but not necessarily good. I had the smashed burger. I like what they do with the relish, but for the money I paid I expected more. We also had loaded fries, which I didn't think was really loaded either. The location was fine. Nice place and it looks neat inside too. The toilet was modern, but the men's toilet was really dirty. Glasses completely covered in urine and there was a yellow cloth in the urinior.

Dinner on a Friday evening on the terrace with a late reservation... placed next to the toilet path. Excellent meal, quality and quantity, I had difficulty finishing my schnitzel. Understanding service for tourists who do not speak a word of German. Beautiful view of the Porta Nigra

Honestly, I don’t understand how this place has so many good reviews. The food tastes like a TOURIST place. A good view of Porta Nigra and that’s probably all. I don’t understand how you can make such tasteless potatoes. I ordered local trout, as indicated on the menu, but it was also wrong 🥲 the presentation looks nice, even the sauce doesn’t save the taste. The place is suitable for those who are very hungry. We ate together, both were dissatisfied. 2 glasses of wine + 2 main courses cost us 70 €. For this amount you can dine at another establishment.

Very nice staff and great, fresh, home-made food

The basics, like a simple beer, are expensive, but you get an incredible ambient view of the Porta Nigra at night. We were there in winter and really enjoyed it! Tip for kindness: Prices down another 2 euros, then I'll order more and the tip will definitely be better 😉

This is not a restaurant... in my opinion a village pub! If you love loud roaring, you should go here. Here is the detailed review: I arrived at 9:45 p.m. I came in, said hello. I wasn't greeted, but 2 employees looked at their watch. Another employee comes around the corner and looks at his watch 😅 Then the lady asked me if I would come for a drink because the kitchen was in 10 minutes. Closes. I said I would order straight away because I know what I like to eat. Then it was ok and I was given a table. The employees were very friendly, but the greeting should have been different than just looking at the clock... especially all at the same time, even though they are open until night. Only the kitchen closes at 10 p.m. I sat down, ordered and the order was ready within 10 minutes, really quick and fresh. Schnitzel with fries were definitely good. Unfortunately, no one came to me during the half hour meal to bring me something to drink or mayonnaise for the fries. Asking at least once in between if everything is ok would have been good. At the end someone came and asked if everything was ok. Very friendly but unfortunately too late What I definitely have to get rid of is that it was definitely way too loud in the 40 minutes I was there. Loud to terribly loud laughter and bawling at various tables. This is not a restaurant but more of a village pub with food. At least that was the impression. I will go there again soon and edit my review accordingly. It could be that it was just a bad moment. What you also have to say is that all the employees were definitely friendly. But if all employees look at the clock before you say hello back, it's not a good feeling. Food was good. But it was a terrible volume. I didn't feel well and paid exactly 20 € for 1 schnitzel with fries and a coke. Somehow it wasn't worth it to me. But because of the good schnitzel. Overall package failed. Too bad about the cook.

Very good place. Tasty . The staff works quickly given the workload and full boarding on the weekend. The price tag is a little higher. But for that place. I recommend it 👍🏽

We were in the SIM with a larger group and had a separate room. The food is super delicious and highly recommended. I had, among other things, the shrimp pan and the steak with fries. Also the dessert selection for dessert. Unfortunately, the service was not very attentive that evening as the restaurant was very busy overall. It would be an organizational advantage if you had more service staff in advance for evenings with larger groups booked. Unfortunately, we were left stranded too often and the service staff sometimes overlooked us in the next room. Even though the food was delicious, it's a shame that groups have a pot of fries put on the table to share and it's not refilled. You should take into account that with the prices everyone gets their own ordered food and for this location you don't just put a pot of fries on the table to share. The serving variation is also quite meager for the price - unfortunately not a good price-performance ratio, even if the taste is convincing. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and we had a great evening as a group. I would like to come back more times for the steak and the delicious shrimp pan. I excuse the lack of service by citing the busyness that evening. Actually three stars, but because the taste is convincing, it's four stars!

For a Sunday lunch: Calm restaurant and really tasty food. The dish was Pasta with mushroom ragout and surprised me with the tasty sauce and juicy meat.

Great evening outside with mulled wine and live music. Great atmosphere and great mood. And a nice view of the Porta Nigra. We'd love to come back!😊

There was a human hair in my salad, which was really gross. And instead of decent compensation, I received a cake that was supposed to look like a brownie, warmed up in the microwave. While we ate for +/- €100. Then more can be expected. This costs the restaurant less than €5. The atmosphere was bad anyway. There were way too many staff doing nothing and watching me empty my plate. And steak was poorly prepared, extremely tough and thick piece of meat. Way too expensive for the quality and very poor service.

A wonderful menu with French dishes that keep their promises. The service is very attentive and friendly. There is a drinks menu with a large selection of different wines, liqueurs and gins. All in all, the SIM is always worth a visit.

Small winter terrace with occasional live music. Handy to know. You pay a deposit for your glass on the winter terrace.

We were here for the first time today and had a very nice evening! Very attentive, friendly and professional staff! The Vitello Tonnato was great! The steak, cordon bleu and veal schnitzel was equally excellent! Everything was very fresh and beautifully prepared... the pepper sauce was great and the side salads were also great... the dressing was bold and tasty... completely to our liking! The dessert, creme brulee and the Sim mix were a great ending... a perfect creme brulee.. great cheesecake and berry sorbet! We can highly recommend this restaurant, but definitely make a reservation! ... Update: The salads are great and the view of the porta from the terrace is great too! Update July 2023: We were very disappointed with the end of the evening today... we spent the evening here for dinner and paid after 4 hours... we spontaneously decided not to change but to have a drink here... as the waiter When we wanted to cash in, we discovered that we had been charged one round too much for three drinks. When we pointed this out, the waiter was extremely unfriendly. It can happen that things are recorded incorrectly or too much, but the reaction was really incredibly unprofessional! Among other things, he told us that we only wanted a drink on the house?! We left quite a bit of money that evening and surely we didn't need to get a drink on the house?!? It's really a shame that the evening ended in what was actually a good restaurant... Update... We went back some time later and wanted to give the SIM another chance...everything was very tasty and the staff was also very friendly :)

Guys... we have never experienced anything better, more comfortable and friendlier in terms of service. And we are from Düsseldorf and have already traveled a long way. Experiencing all of this at Christmas time in tranquil Trier and then in SIM was great. The food, one cordon bleu and the other rump stick with pepper, mushrooms and onions, was terrific. In addition, this mega-nice and friendly service, unfortunately we didn't ask her name, was "top shelf". Thank you dear SIM team for the great and delicious evening. We had dinner there for a birthday celebration. I had a Cordon Bleu which was really good, my wife had the mussels which also tasted great, but the salads and the tartare also looked great. There is a wide selection of wines on the menu. We'll be back, it was a successful evening with great food and drinks.

Friendly welcome. When we said we were just coming for a drink, it was a bit less. Then had to wait a very long time. People who arrived after us and ordered food had their drinks (and even starters) before we got our drinks.

We had booked a table for many people long in advance and were turned away. We had a journey of over two hours and no effort was made to present us with an alternative. EDIT: It is incorrect that we booked through the website. We booked the table by phone and were also able to give the date of the call. So we only received confirmation verbally.

We were here with a group of people and the food and wine was outstanding! Likewise the service and the ambience, a reservation is definitely necessary here! Location at Porta Nigra is well located. 4 stars as motivation to stay at the level or to slightly improve one or two things - you are scratching the 5 star! TIP: We had booked the “Römer & Riesling” package through the tourist information office…Mega: hotel, meal at the SIM with wine accompaniment, city tour, amphitheater adventure tour (also great with kids) and a vineyard tour with wine tasting and delicious food for an unbeatable price , the arrangement is a TOP recommendation! Trier is worth it!

Very tasty food but quite noisy atmosphere

Very crowded and therefore a bit noisy, but comfortably furnished and delicious food. Service was very attentive and nice. Price performance is certainly justified.

More of a tourist hotspot with the atmosphere of a train station. You get the feeling that the whole of Trier is walking through the dining room to toilets that aren't really clean. It's not clear to us that people seriously allow something like this. To eat: tarte flambée great, cordon bleu ordinary and clearly room for improvement. Drinks chilled, layman's almost helpless advice on the wine list and that in this region! Service seemed overwhelmed. Ambience only one star for the reasons mentioned above. A lot needs to happen here...

You can dine fantastically here. Unfortunately we were only there for a short time and rather spontaneously and had delicious tarte flambée. But the extensive menu, the ambience and the food at the next table made you want more. There is also the outdoor terrace with a view of the Porta Nigra, TOP.

So… service, was good friendly the only minus that they don’t ask the degree of doneness of meat. But it’s okay. Food. Each of three salats that I ordered was too sour. Unfortunately, the taste of the schnitzel wasn’t very good; the batter had a strong fishy flavor, but the meat itself was good. Drinks. I ordered red and white wine, and in my subjective opinion, they were ok. Leaving there, I was sad.

Absolutely don’t recommend. We have 3 different dishes ordered, including salads. All 3 dishes had the same salad and the same dressing. Dressing is veeeery sour, no way to finish the salad. The veal schnitzel... it seemed like they had fried some fish in the deep fryer before it, because the batter had a strong fishy taste. Besides that, the waiter mixed up the order a bit, even though he asked twice about what I wanted with the dish. But that's the least of the problems, I can forgive the waiter, but not the chef! It feels like they played a cruel joke on me. The portions seemed so large, but it was impossible to finish because the salads were horribly sour, and the main course was just a disappointment.

Nachdem wir das Essen bei anderen Gaesten gesehen haben, haben wir fuer abends einen Tisch reserviert. Und es hat sich wirklich gelohnt. Normalerweise wuerde man ja eine Touristenfalle erwarten in der Location, aber definitiv nicht. Eine tolle Karte mit sehr unterschiedlichen Speisen (viel auf Fisch basiert), sehr gute Qualitaet der Produkte, Preis-Leistungs-Verhaeltnis angemessen, tolle Weine aus der Region und ein sehr zuvorkommendes Personal. Nach einem Konzert der Band New Model Army im angrenzenden Brunnenhof sind wir für ein paar Drinks in die Sim. Es war ein lauer Sommerabend, sodass wir froh waren, auf der gut besuchten Terrasse noch einen Platz draußen zu bekommen. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und die Drinks haben sehr gut geschmeckt. Direkt an der Porta Nigra konnten wir den Abend gemütlich ausklingen lassen. Eine tolle Atmosphäre. Schön war auch, dass wir hier noch die Band gesehen haben.

We ate on the terrace with 6 people on Saturday evening and were very satisfied. Great location with a view of the Porta Nigra. Very tasty starters and main courses were all top. Good local wine list at drinking-friendly prices. Even though everything was fully booked, the service was super friendly and attentive. Despite its location on the Porta, there are also a lot of Trier residents visiting the area. We'd love to come back. Good shop with delicious food and very good service.

Very friendly service, great ambience (food with a view of the Porta Nigra), excellent cuisine (e.g. "Wild Flammkuchen", tagliatelle with chanterelles, starter plates, salads...) Fair prices - no tourist scam (as is unfortunately often the case in such exposed places), good wines. SUPER!!!

Really a shame to add this note, knowing that it's a restaurant that I've heard a lot of good things about. Of course we had not reserved a table, it was really unexpected. As soon as we arrived, we saw that there was plenty of free space! Some tables had the reserved sign, but others did not! Many customers were usually 2 to a table of 4 people. While there is enough space! Fortunately, we were able to eat in another restaurant that had a sense of hospitality!

A decent place to enjoy views of the Porta Nigra IF they let you in 😅 Often very busy so you're lucky to be let in without a reservation if you decide to visit spontaneously. Good selection of drinks and food. Young girl behind the outdoor bar kept my change until I politely asked for it back. This is not common practice in Germany so not sure why this happened. Service is hit and miss. Some staff are very friendly, others not so much.

The most beautiful terrace in Trier with a view of the Porta. The food is super tasty and always freshly prepared. Great mix of locals and tourists. We are locals and love staying here at any time of the year. The service staff is extremely friendly, courteous and quick. Always happy 👌

The Sim Brasserie in Trier, directly at the Porta Nigra, impresses with its excellent location and pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately the drinks didn't live up to our expectations. We ordered a red grape juice and a Coke Zero. However, the grape juice turned out to be just Granini juice, which is disappointing in a region like this - we would have expected a regional juice here. The cola was also non-carbonated. What should be highlighted positively is that the drinks were served well chilled. Overall a solid experience, but there is room for improvement.

Hier waren wir schon sehr oft. Die Lage ist perfekt, Essen und Service auch. Ob ein schnelles Schnitzel beim Einkaufen, Besuch mit Gästen denen man die Porta zeigen will, Event mit Blick auf Porta Nigra Konzerte oder auch Dinner zu zweit mit Hummer usw oder auch nur ein Glas Wein oder Pilz: In der Sim bekommt man immer was man erwartet und das perfekt und freundlich zu anständigen Preisen. Die Weinauswahl ist super und das ganze einfach, simpel, ungezwungen und dennoch exklusiv. Eines der besten Lokale in der Stadt.

We got stuck on "a" cyclist on Tuesday afternoon and asked if it would still be possible to reserve a table for the evening. The team said it was just a matter of luck and we were lucky. It was a great evening all around, great food, the service was great, the view of the Porta Nigra was amazing. The food, drinks and the team left nothing to be desired. Wir besuchten das Restaurant zum ersten Mal und waren alle (6Per.) begeistert. Das Ambiente auf der Terrasse war phänomenal. Die Porta Nigra im Blick und das Wetter phantastisch. Die Bestellungen wurde von den Servicekräften kompetent und zuvorkommend erledigt. Die gereichte Speisen waren alle geschmacklich sehr gut und entsprachen einer gehobenen Qualität. Das Preisleistungsverhältnis geht voll in Ordnung. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und werden wieder kommen.

I've already tried a lot of different things. Steak, salads and also the seafood cake stand. Everything is really well prepared. One of the few stores where I was never disappointed even with guests. Of course it's also in a fantastic location and if you get a place outside then that's really nice. Great, friendly but also professional service, great store.

We reserved a table for 4 people 2 weeks ago, but then had to cancel 2 places at short notice. When we arrived at the restaurant we were assigned a small table directly between the bar and the kitchen. Impossible to enjoy your food here. From what it looked like, it was actually a table for temporary storage for the waitresses, to which two chairs were quickly placed. The employee who was responsible for allocating tables was very unfriendly and, according to him, no alternative was possible. All other free tables are reserved. But the worst thing about it was that he couldn't apologize. Completely unprofessional. We left hungry; We will never enter this restaurant again.

Well... we did wait 1.5 hours for our lunch (Fish soup and Ceasars salad). Pretty odd that the kitchen forgot our order twice, since the restaurant recommended the fish soup.... Once we got our food, the (recommended) fish soup basket was tasty, but the octopus was like rubber, a mussel was bad and there was only one piece of fish in it. In the Ceasar salate the chicken was fried on one side, like it had been forgotten on the fryer. The chicken was dry and extremely salty and overpowered the salad and dressing. We can speculate on the reasons for this, but I think that the kitchen should answer for themselves.

Beautiful bar, restaurant, with views of a historical monument. Very kindly attended in German and English. I only drank one beer, that's why I don't rate the food, but it seems to me that with a small beer at almost 4 euros they should add some peanuts or some olives.

Unfortunately, no recommendation from me. Regarding the food, it should be said that the menu has a few interesting alternatives to the standard dishes, but I opted for a classic. As a starter I chose a bread basket. Unfortunately the herb butter was so hard that you couldn't really eat it. Apparently they had forgotten my main course, so I pointed it out after another half hour. Not a word of apology. Then obviously it had to be done quickly because the middle part of the mushroom cream schnitzel I ordered was still raw and so I decided not to eat the rest. I rate the ambience positively. The view of the porta is particularly special.

Leider keine Empfehlung meinerseits. Zum Essen ist zu sagen, dass die Karte ein paar interessante Alternativen zu den Standardgerichten aufweist, ich mich aber für einen Klassiker entschieden hatte. Als Vorspeise wählte ich einen Brotkorb. Leider war die Kräuterbutter so hart, dass man sie nicht wirklich essen konnte. Offensichtlich hatte man meine Hauptspeise vergessen, sodass ich nach einer weiteren halben Stunde darauf hingewiesen habe. Kein Wort der Entschuldigung. Dann musste es offensichtlich schnell gehen, denn das bestellte Champignonsrahmschnitzel war im mittleren Teil noch roh und so habe ich mich entschlossen, den Rest nicht mehr zu essen. Das Ambiente bewerte ich positiv. Besonders der Blick auf die Porta ist etwas ganz besonderes.

Great location right in front of Porta Nigra. Excellent selection of dishes. If you just want to have a drink outside, there are small tables with a bench. So there is enough space for people who want to eat. Great idea. The food is very good.

Delicious specialties from Trier

The food was super delicious! Good service, nice restaurant...but the prices are a bit excessive, so a star deduction.

The food was, as always, very tasty. Unfortunately, due to the weather, you couldn't sit on the beautiful terrace and inside it was quite crowded and the atmosphere was a bit loud. My highlight, however, was the super nice waitress who served us with her charm and humor and responded to our wishes. Thank you very much for that 😊

Schnitzel with pepper sauce quite good and very hearty, served with a good fresh salad and fries. The crémant was also good, the crème brûlée was also plentiful (served with a scoop of ice cream) The waiters and waitresses are smiling and pleasant. Good restaurant, good cuisine without fuss.

After a day of cycling, we had dinner at the SIM brasserie. We kept it to a main course because more was not necessary. Our conclusion was that the kitchen team had prepared us a tasty plate. The service was adequate. And the price quality was okay. Feel free to stick a fork.

Very good food, the selection was extensive and sometimes something different, not just the standard dishes (e.g. wild boar sausage). The staff was very nice and accommodating. Only the volume in the next room was a bit loud due to the other guests, the room is very noisy.
