An Austrian restaurant in Sasel – with very good food. The staff makes an effort, even if there's sometimes a bit of a wait in the back. The ambiance doesn't do the country justice, and the background noise is unpleasant. But if you like Austrian cuisine and want to try something different, this is the place for you.

We were at the restaurant today (September 29, 2025) for a celebration and were disappointed in every way. Before we could even order, the waitress told us what they weren't serving. We were already ready to leave. The prices are outrageously high (schnitzel for €37.50 and a simple salad for €17). Nobody wants to afford that anymore. What ends up on our plates doesn't even come close to what you'd expect for the price. Barely seasoned, small portions, and served half-heartedly. The ambiance of the restaurant is dated and neither inviting nor appealing. Barely audible music, carelessly set tables (which remind me more of a snack bar or beer tent), and a subdued atmosphere throughout. In summary, a restaurant that didn't impress and isn't recommended.

After a year, we were back at the Watzmann and were looking forward to a lovely evening with hearty food. Unfortunately, we were bitterly disappointed. Apparently, the portion sizes have shrunk. The "small" schnitzel was apparently only half to two-thirds the size of a year ago. It was also tough this time, and the accompanying lemon was long past its prime. It was dried out and consisted almost entirely of seeds. Furthermore, it was so small that even if it were fresh, it wouldn't have produced enough juice for the schnitzel. The fried potatoes served as a side dish were bland compared to the bearded potatoes with the Gröschtl. The goulash, which I remembered as large, tender pieces of meat, consisted of small pieces in a small amount, with a thin, not very thick sauce. The Gröschtl also felt like it had shrunk in size. Lemon and orange juice were omitted from drinks like Spezi and the like. Unfortunately, the prices continued to trend differently. Upward! On our first visit a few years ago, a large schnitzel cost €26. Last year it was €36, and this year it's €37.50. The price limit has clearly been reached. You don't WANT to pay for that anymore! Especially not with this kind of service! It's perfectly acceptable that dumplings, when they're freshly made, take longer. We were informed of this (30 minutes), after we had to ask again which drinks were ordered because they hadn't been written down. The 30 minutes passed, as did 35, 40, and 45 minutes. Guests who had arrived 30 minutes after us and ordered had already received their food. After 50 minutes, we told an employee that we would wait another five minutes and then get the bill for the drinks, and that we would leave if the food didn't arrive. Very agitated, they went into the kitchen and told us that the food was currently being prepared. The "preparing" process actually took ten minutes. In the meantime, more food was served to other guests who had arrived later. The guests sitting next to us, who had arrived 45 minutes after us and had ordered, received their food directly after us. It's obvious that our food was forgotten in the "kitchen rush," which isn't a problem in principle if the restaurant and its employees handle it openly and transparently: Admit it and find a solution for the customer. For example, not charging for drinks, dessert on the house, etc. Offering a shot of schnapps for a family with a child during the payment process doesn't reflect good customer-oriented service. The fact that we weren't served side salads with our ordered dishes like the other guests confirmed our assumption that our food order had been forgotten. A shot of schnapps on the house is also part of the hospitality in many restaurants. For us, this was our last visit due to the now, in our opinion, far too high prices for the service, quality, and ambiance provided.

Very good food, but currently only a few dishes are available, so it's best to ask when making a reservation what's available! The schnitzel was, as always, amazing!

The Watzmann Inn has had new owners for some time now. They, too, remain true to the Watzmann name and now also offer schnapps directly from Berchtesgaden by the Grassl company. The inn's decor is rustic, as you'd expect from an inn. The food is hearty, plentiful, and tastes excellent, as you'd normally expect from an inn. The staff is extremely courteous and friendly. The new owners are sure to make several changes to the restaurant's look. This will hopefully live up to the name of the "Watzmann" Inn. I'm already looking forward to experiencing the hopefully positive changes on my next visit.

Rarely have I eaten such a delicious veal schnitzel – even in Vienna it doesn't taste better! It was served with parsley potatoes and a small mixed salad... truly delicious! Very friendly, attentive staff, without being intrusive. Pleasant ambiance and not-too-loud background music, making it easy to have a good conversation. All in all, a successful evening, and we'll be back soon! Update: Yesterday, I went to the "Watzmann" with a good friend after several years (the owner has since changed) and was not disappointed at all! Sure, prices have risen significantly since the coronavirus pandemic, and a huge veal schnitzel now costs €37.50, including roasted, fried, or parsley potatoes with a small salad... But: Still, in my opinion, it's worth it, as the food is top-notch – freshly prepared, a huge veal schnitzel with a fine coating that's not soaked in old fat, and the side dishes weren't simply warmed up in the microwave, but freshly prepared and piping hot (the salad wasn't hot, of course, hahaha). As a beer lover, I was naturally thrilled that they offer a wide variety of beers in addition to wine. The ambiance is quaint and cozy, just like it used to be, and the server was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Even though money doesn't grow on trees, I'm happy to spend a little more for good food and top-notch service. What annoys me is that these days, you often feel like you're being ripped off as a guest with smaller portions, inferior ingredients, and unfriendly service, and that's not the case at all at the "Watzmann"! It was a great evening with delicious food, so we'll definitely be back!!! I would definitely make a reservation in advance – even for two!

I've been a regular here for over 20 years. What's truly special about the Watzmann is that for 20 years the team has been delivering consistent, excellent quality at the same high standard! They simply serve the best Wiener Schnitzel in town; even the Vienna or Tschebull can't compete. A trip to Sasel is worthwhile for any sophisticated schnitzel enthusiast. Everything is very good, not just the schnitzel, but the entire menu. My favorites: The cheese dumplings are truly addictive, and the fried chicken salad has the most delicious dressing and is so perfectly combined, simply wonderful! And one more thing: I fell completely in love with Austrian cuisine two years ago while on vacation in Salzburger Land. I would have thought that I would be served the same good food on every corner. But I was wrong: there's no competition anywhere, and nowhere even close to the quality of our Watzmann in Hamburg. Now that's not praise! You can't get more than that! But if I could wish for something, it would be a nice beer garden—from May to September, that would be fantastic! Unfortunately, for that to happen, the Watzmann would have to relocate or open a second location...

The four of us had just eaten at the Gasthaus Watzmann in Sasel. Three small schnitzels, one cordon bleu with fried potatoes. The service, nice and friendly. The drinks we ordered came quickly and well chilled. When the schnitzels were served, we looked at each other in surprise and asked if they were also the small schnitzels, because they towered over the edge of the plate because they were so big. That was answered in the affirmative. Big compliments to the kitchen. The meat is buttery tender and juicy Fried potatoes nice and crispy. The 4 of us enjoyed the meal,

A quaint little shop that serves hearty cuisine. The menu is very meat-heavy, which is fine by me. The dishes are freshly prepared, but I like to wait a little longer. The quality and taste are very good, the portions are generous. The service is excellent, the prices range between 20 and 30 euros for a main course. Parking is a bit difficult, you may have to plan a short walk.

Haben über 1 Stunde auf unser Essen gewartet und erst auf Nachfrage dieses erhalten. ALS wir uns zum Abschluss Espresso um 21:45h bestellen wollten, war die Kaffeemaschine schon gereinigt und aus. Preis und Leistung passt hier nicht. Schade, kommen nicht wieder.

Great restaurant visit. Nice staff. It is freshly cooked. Changing dishes, with a weekly changing delicacies menu. Best XXL knuckle. Mega crust, juicy inside! Freshly prepared dumplings and sauerkraut are served with this knuckle. Dessert was also great. Absolutely recommended restaurant.

Quaint restaurant in Sasel with Alpine cuisine. In addition to the standard menu, there is a weekly changing promotional card, which I find very commendable! Depending on the waiter, special requests are easily possible, sometimes strangely not. The atmosphere is rustic and hearty, mostly quite loud. Reservations are recommended. Unfortunately, quite a lot of ready-made products are used, which is a shame! It is also suspicious that some products on the menu emphasize that they are homemade, for example the Rösti. If ready-made products are used, it would at least be nice if they were refined a little. The standard dish here is the Wiener Schnitzel, which comes in a small (€19.50) and large version (€24.50), it's nice and thin and comes with buttered boiled potatoes and a small mixed salad. Unfortunately, cranberries are not included and it could be even more souffled, but it is nice and thin and tender. And peppered cranberries would be a nice addition to the schnitzel. It is always possible to get another side dish without any problem, for example fried potatoes, dumplings, pasta or gnocchi, sometimes (cheese dumplings, cheese dumplings and rösti) with an additional charge, otherwise no surcharge. Unfortunately there is no potato salad as a side dish; it used to be available as part of the side salad. The side salad tastes very good and consists, among other things, of leaf lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber salad in sauce and coleslaw. The cucumber salad and coleslaw appear to be ready-made products. The fried potatoes were only briefly fried and didn't taste like much, there was a lack of seasoning, but they were homemade. A little bacon probably wouldn't hurt either. However, the crunchy onions in the fried potatoes were nice. The dumplings or spaetzle are delicious and recommended. Unfortunately the cabbage pancake has disappeared from the menu, I still miss it very much! The baked mushrooms, €9.20, are recommended as a starter to share, with tartar sauce on the side. They are mushrooms breaded with breadcrumbs and deep fried. Enough for three people. The Kaiserschmarrn, € 12.20, is also good for sharing as a dessert (enough for 3-4 people as a dessert). This is very nice and airy, fluffy and fortunately only baked for a short time, so it is nice and soft and fluffy. It's made with raisins and fortunately dusted with just a little powdered sugar and comes out of the kitchen sizzling hot, but not dripping with fat, ideal! Unfortunately, the applesauce is a finished product and the cranberries are not refined, but come straight from the jar. A homemade apple compote with a little cinnamon and warm plum roast would be nice. There is clearly still room for improvement here! The Haschee dumplings that are on the menu are also highly recommended and are homemade; they are available in different variations, as are the homemade Rösti. Unfortunately, on our last visit, the sauerkraut was cold on several plates, and it wasn't refined, for example with apple, pineapple, caraway or bacon, but tasted as if it had been taken straight from the package. Too bad! The side dishes are expensive, I find €5.20 for mushroom sauce and €4.80 for a portion of leaf spinach very ambitious. Also, charging €1.90 for cranberries and salad dressing or €2.20 for horseradish is actually an outrage, especially since it's not a particularly cheap restaurant. Unfortunately it's probably closed.

Seit Jahren sind wir immer wieder gern, trotz der furchtbaren Geräuschkulisse, ins Watzmann gegangen. Doch dass, was die Speisekarte nun noch zu horrenden Preisen anbietet, ist für uns nicht mehr tragbar. Schnitzel für 38.00 Euro? Das sind umgerechnet fast 80 DMark. Ja ich weiß, man rechnet nicht um. Habt ihr das doppelte Gehalt bekommen? Glückwunsch! Ich nicht. Wenn die Qualität stimmt, ist es vielleicht doch hinnehmbar. Aber fast alles stammt aus der Tiefkühltruhe. Sorry. Aber als Gast muss man auch Konsequenzen ziehen, was die Insolvenz des Watzmann wohl bestätigt. Alles Gute für euch!

We had a department party there. I had the "small" schnitzel because I wanted dessert. However, that was quite a bit on the plate and would normally have been enough! I was missing a little fat/butter on the fried potatoes, it was too dry for me. For dessert I had Kaiserschmarrn, which I shared with a colleague because otherwise it would be too much. And, what can I say, there was still enough for 4 other colleagues.

Didn't have a reservation and had to sit outside. The food was delicious, the Kaiserschmarn was hard to manage, there was Wies'n beer, we'll be back, but with a reservation, very friendly service

Good morning As always, the food was delicious, but unfortunately we waited over an hour for the food yesterday and not every seat was occupied. Unfortunately, €30 for “The Schnitzel” is now too much for me, no one would have ever paid 60 marks for a schnitzel, even if it was a real veal schnitzel. And unfortunately the acoustics were very loud yesterday. Watzmann has always been a bit more expensive, but for us it's now overreaching, even though it's always very tasty!

You can get the perfect Wiener Schnitzel here. The other dishes are also recommended. The decor is a bit dated, but the shop itself is highly recommended for fans of Austrian cuisine. We always like to come back.

Eigentlich mag ich dieses Restaurant wirklich sehr gern, aber was ich hier kürzlich erleben musste, ist einfach unvorstellbar. Während unseres Essen verrichtete ein (recht großer) Hund sein "großes" Geschäfts unmittelbar am Nebentisch.. einfach völlig unakzeptabel und für ALLE Gäste nur extrem ekelig....

Soooo delicious food. The best schnitzel I've ever eaten. We were there on a Thursday evening and it was quite crowded and loud. The service was very friendly, sometimes a bit slow, that's why not 5 stars. Attention, only EC card payment possible, no credit card. Parking in the immediate area is also difficult.

Super solides, zwangloses Restaurant mit extrem leckeren Schnitzeln. Faire Preise, gute Qualität, kein überflüssiger Schnickschnack - grossartig.

Ich war mit einer größeren Gruppe und Vorreservierung da. Immerhin konnte man in der Vorweihnachtszeit dort noch einen Platz bekommen. An dem Abend war der Laden voll. Wir haben etwa 40 Minuten gewartet bis das erst mal jemand für die Bestellung am Tisch war. Insgesamt war der Service einfach unterbesetzt und entsprechend gestresst. Das Essen war gut. Die Preise okay. Der Laden Insgesamt ziemlich abgeranzt. Praktisch keine Parkplätze und mit Visa Karte kann man nicht zahlen. Insgesamt okay. 3 Sterne.

Das Watzmann ist, seit ich in Hamburg wohne, mein Stammrestaurant. Auch wenn die Preise deutlich in die Höhe gegangen sind (was sie derzeit überall tun), stimmen Menge, Qualität und Service hier immer noch. Die oft kritisierte Akustik ist tatsächlich manchmal ein Problem, wenn der Laden voll ist, hält mich aber nicht davon ab, dort hinzugehen. Personal immer sehr aufmerksam und freundlich, selbst wenn der Laden aus allen Nähten platzt.

Essen schmeckt gut, aber: - Der Ort ist super, super laut! Du kannst deine Nachbarn kaum verstehen! Echt anstrengend - Der Service ist total überfordert. Nach der Bestellung haben wir mehr als eine Stunde auf unser Essen gewartet! Insgesamt macht es wirklich keinen Spaß… Schade, aber wir werden dort nicht mehr hingehen. Ein Abend in einem Restaurant mit Freunden muss spaß machen und angenehm sein. Es war heute überhaupt nicht.

Über das Essen ist schon viel gepostet worden und das meiste davon stimmt. Die Schnitzel sind lecker aber viel zu groß. Wir haben uns den Rest einpacken lassen wäre zu schade für den ... Mein Tip : Schnitzel etwas kleiner und den Preis anpassen. Ich hatte untypisch für ein Österreicher das Labskaus bestellt, und das war eins der besten die ich je gegessen habe. Dafür gibt es einen dicken Daumen hoch. Der Service ist nett und aufmerksam, aber beim vollen Lokal auch leicht gestresst. Das Ambiente ist schon in die Jahre gekommen und könnte ein Update vertragen. Unterhalten fällt schwer da die Geräuschkulisse doch sehr laut ist. Alles in allem lohnt sich der Besuch aber

Wir hatten gestern Abend im Watzmann unser Geschwistertreffen und waren alle pappsatt von dem sehr leckeren Essen. Jeder hat ein anderes Gericht gegessen ( Suppe, Schnitzel, Jause, Wurstsalat, Rösti und zum Abschluss noch einen Kaiserschmarren mit 6 Gabeln) und alles war frisch und geschmacklich toll. Vorweg, wir kommen wieder. Wir hatten leider nicht reserviert, dass sollte man unbedingt machen, da das Restaurant sehr gut besucht ist. Nach kurzem Warten bekamen wir noch einen Tisch. Das Personal hat Spaß an ihrer Arbeit. Gut gelaunt, obwohl viel los war, wurde die Bestellung aufgenommen und serviert. Die Qualität der Speisen und die Größe der Portionen waren super. Daher fiel leider auch der Nachtisch aus. Die Speisekarte bietet leckere österreichische Gerichte, die Getränkeauswahl ist groß. Wir verbrachten dort einen schönen Abend. Wir freuen uns schon beim nächsten Mal auf den Kaiserschmarren.

Wirklich allerbeste Küche mit einem tollen Team, das uns über viele Jahre ans Herz gewachsen ist. Die Preiserhöhung zum letzten Jahreswechsel hatte es wirklich in sich und hat dazu geführt, dass wir uns das leckere Essen nun leider viel seltener gönnen. Das finde ich schade.

Sehr zu empfehlen. Wir hatten Glück und haben noch spontan einen Tisch bekommen. Die Bedienungen waren alle super lieb und das Essen hat uns SEHR gut geschmeckt. Die Portionen waren so groß, dass wir noch was mit nach Hause nehmen konnten.

Go for the food, but not the wine or the service. There are yummy options for the food with very generous servings. However, they only serve wine by the glass. When it was pointed out that the ordered glass of red wine was off (varnish smell), the response was just “Well other people drink it!”. Zero points for customer focus.

This is the best schnitzel I have ever tried in Hamburg. It's pure butter in your mouth. You must have it. Everything was absolutely delicious. The schnitzel, the Knödel and the Bratkartoffeln. It is quite a price intensive place, I would have liked to get dessert but the Kaiserschmarrn were almost the price of a meal, in fact they were around 16€ if I remember correctly. I'm sure they would have been also delicious. If you want a great meal, and you don't mind the price, go eat there for sure.

Nette Bedienung, deftiges Essen auch Essen saisonal wie Matches und Spargel

Essen sehr gut, Bedienung ausgezeichnet, leider trotzdem ein Minuspunkt: Lokal hat keine Klimaanlage.

Rustikales Ambiente. Die Kellnerin war sehr freundlich, aber nicht immer ganz aufmerksam. Das Schnitzel war sehr lecker, die Preise wurden allerdings nochmal ordentlich angezogen. Das normale kostet 30,50€ und das "kleine" 25,50€. Bratkartoffeln und Salat sehr lecker. Das Rindergulasch kam leider geschmacklich nicht so an das Schnitzel an. Schokopalatschinken als Nachtisch lecker, aber riesen Portion!

Klasse Österreichische Küche ! Klassische Gerichte, ob Knödel oder butterspätzle mit Wiener Schnitzel, alles nette Gerichte auf der Karte. Hatte heute Grünkohl mit Rostkartoffeln, Wiener Schnitzel, Puten Gordon Bleu und Putengeschnetzeltes. Dazu salat und ein Alpenzeller Dunkel Bier. Alles sehr lecker, Bedienung sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich. Das Restaurant ist groß, daher etwas laut, wen an den Tischen gesprochen wird. Aber wer auf Solide Hausmannskost steht, ist hier Richtig !!!
