Food was not so good and the waiter was too forceful. I was not satisfied with the service but she pressured me to give her tips anyway and lectured me in front of everyone else.

If you're looking for German cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere, this is the place to be. The menu offers many classics, and the ambiance makes it taste even better. The service was very fast and good. A reservation is definitely recommended, as many people know that the food here is good.

Really cool place if you want to experience the charm of a bar/pub from bygone times. The furnishings are accordingly and you shouldn't expect soft upholstery or flawless furniture. The food we ordered came very quickly and we all enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I can recommend the tarte flambée. There are vegetarian dishes, but the choice is limited. In general it is German home cooking (roulades, steak, brawn, tarte flambée, schnitzel and the like). We were there at lunchtime, so at other times and when the house is full it may take longer. The price was also completely reasonable! The service also suited the restaurant thanks to the “Berlin snout” and could have made it a very good rating. My BUT what also stopped me from going there again and recommending it to others was the service. I also worked as a waitress and know that the job can be strenuous. Nevertheless, you have to behave accordingly towards your guests. When we arrived, the coffee machine was not being cleaned as scheduled, so coffee could not be made. It's a stupid situation and of course very unpleasant as a waitress (who worked alone), but I don't think you have to communicate your frustration and anger loudly through the restaurant. As a guest, you usually understand when the situation is explained to you calmly. When we arrived it took a while until we were served, but given the circumstances we heard, that wasn't a big deal. However, before that came the first condescending comment, which was quite obviously aimed at us, even if it wasn't said directly to us. "You can also say hello when you come in!" - of course we said hello, but if you complain loudly about the coffee machine you won't hear it... I was about to leave... In general, the operation seemed very scattered and overworked. Has mentioned several times that she has been doing 15-hour shifts for the last 3 days (due to illness, among other things). Of course this is physical and psychological. When serving/placing the order, she apologized, explained the situation calmly and was generally friendly. The food was served quickly and everything was fine. Then we wanted/did pay and rounded it up to an even amount, so we gave a tip. Of course, you can argue about how much tipping is appropriate, but for me personally it was clear after the comment at the beginning that I wouldn't have tipped. There is no obligation to tip and it wasn't even 5 cents, so I think you can't and shouldn't complain about what every guest is willing to give. Either you simply don't accept it or you let your anger/frustration out afterwards where the guests don't notice. In any case, the waitress was upset that the tip was so “small” (remember the comment at the beginning) - but only accepted the tip. The waitress also looked at the rest of us and expected/encouraged us to give a tip. When we went out, another guest probably told the waitress that she didn't have to accept the tip. Since we had smokers with us, we stood in front of the restaurant for a moment and then the waitress actually came running back to give us the tip back... In general, the waitress was very friendly and would stroke our guests' arms or take our hands, which I personally don't like at all with strangers. Although it was meant kindly, it wasn't appropriate in my opinion! I won't eat or drink there again! It's a shame for the actually cool place and good food.

Die Zeiten, in denen man in eine Kneipe geht und an einem freien Tisch Platz nimmt, sind im Hoeck leider vorbei. Wir wurden sofort aufgescheucht, als wir an einem winzigen Tisch zu zweit Platz nehmen wollten. Dies sei ein Mehrpersonentisch, an den wir uns nicht zu zweit setzen könnten. Wir dachten, dass man sich in einer Kneipe auch mal dazusetzt. Man hat sich im Hoeck offensichtlich auf Massenabfertigung in Form von Touristengruppen eingestellt. Kiezbewohner stören. Schade.

Very interesting service was really good

It was great, we came unannounced shortly before closing time with a large group of 30 people. We were served in a friendly manner and the chef conjured up everything we wanted on the table in a short time. Plus everything at reasonable prices. 10 stars plus

I've been to the restaurant several times. Actually the food is quite okay. But this time I had worse experiences. The steak was okay, but the fries were a bit soggy and the vegetables that came with it had probably been left on the stove overnight. Let's see, maybe it will be better next time.

Nice quaint pub. Price performance of the food was right. The service staff was very overwhelmed by the number of guests, but was always friendly in their manner. When the tip didn't meet her expectations, she was astonished! Patty and goodbye to friendliness! It got to the point where she spoke negatively about her to me in front of the person who invited us. Really a disgrace, disrespectful and more than unprofessional. Absolutely not a nice feeling that makes you want to come back.

The food was very tasty and the price was also very reasonable. Nice old Berlin pub where someone played the piano after around 9 p.m.! An older gentleman, without grades, everything from his head! Super!!!!

Already on my first visit I noticed that the atmosphere here is completely different than in other German restaurants - much more comfortable, almost like a little journey back in time. The pork steak was so delicious that I came back today with a friend to eat it again. The friendly waitress, the delicious food and the beautiful weather made our experience perfect. We particularly liked the slightly burnt vegetables and potatoes - they had a delicate, sweet note and rounded off the dish wonderfully.

Eine ehrwürdige Kneipe, in der ich eine kurzweilige Zeit verbringen konnte. Es wird hier gepichelt und die Menschen haben Freude daran. Einfach eine richtig gute Kneipe, ohne Schnickschnack, und das seit mehr als 100 Jahren. Das Highlight war für mich der betagte Klavierspieler. Er spielte auswendig und locker sein Repertoire und man könnte meinen, dass er zum Inventar gehört. Es gab Applaus für seine Einlagen.

We discovered this pub completely by chance on our visit to Berlin and would like to recommend it to others. Great atmosphere with hearty food. A big compliment to dear Olli. She was very attentive and accommodating. There was also free live music on the piano. What more could you want?

We were just passing through and had dinner here. The food (we had chicken schnitzel and veal schnitzel) was absolutely top. Good breading, pleasant thickness, not burnt. The sauce was served separately. Both my fries and my partner's fried potatoes were very good. The apple strudel with vanilla ice cream that followed was also great. Service was friendly, but a bit stressful at times. Another waitress could complement the crowded place. The price is also absolutely right. But if you can't handle a slightly increased volume, this isn't the right choice for you. It didn't bother us. Overall, it was definitely a nice evening and a clear recommendation for schnitzel lovers.

We were there as a large group on Monday. Both rooms were full of people and yet we were repeatedly asked whether we had any further wishes. This was also well addressed. Would love to come back.

Great cosy place. We went on a Saturday for lunch with 2 small kids. Service was great, and really kids friendly, not common in Berlin. Wiener Schnitzel was perfect!

A very interesting pub. Good menu and good food at acceptable prices. The staff was a bit understaffed but tried very hard and we were able to spend two lovely evenings. Unfortunately, the residents are a disaster and complain about the noise. So if I live near a pub I should accept that the people in the pub want to have fun and the owner makes a living from the people there having fun.

It's a shame I live in Friedrichshain and not around the corner. This would be my local bar, but not because of the really delicious beer or the rustic decor, no, but because of Olli. Olli is the best bartender in the world—and I've experienced a lot—friendly, funny, super personable, and with her heart in the right place. We had such a pleasant and entertaining evening with her. Was there with a friend, the older lady (waiter) was extremely unfriendly, not only to us, but also to other guests. We obviously didn't tip enough, because there wasn't even a thank you or a farewell = not recommended!

Yesterday before the cultural highlight here Stopped in and had a rustic experience. Here you can eat in the second oldest restaurant historical flair can be breathed. Historical ambience, rustic delicious The food and the Berlin warmth of the service - it was a great stop. There was no way around it as a punch line the bill from 50.50 to exactly 55.55 round up. You can't really give it a star. Today, as so often, we went after the football. Invited thirteen football fans. But they came a bit later. We ordered beer and ate our leftovers from the stadium with it. The waiter came straight away. We had been seen on camera eating our own food and were asked to please leave. When we asked that our friends who were coming soon to eat and drink here, no relenting took place. The manager doesn't want that. We come here often. The bill is never right. There is always more on the bill than we consume, and we are always begging for tips. Unpleasant! And yet we keep going back. Today is the last time! Never again. Tourist trap, lots of money, no service and absolutely excessive prices! Unfriendly and not focused on the well-being of the guest!!! 25.03.25: Update: After writing an honest review, I'm now banned from the premises. The deal is, I take back the review and officially apologize, and then I'm allowed back in the store. Never! Anyone who doesn't see reality hasn't served their customers. The alternatives for me are the Goldesel, the Kastanie, or Galia Grill. Best service, good prices, and it tastes good! After 18 years, I'm saying goodbye to Höck and feel more comfortable somewhere else!

An extraordinary place with good food. Exceptional because of the authentic facilities with authentic traditional food (Berlin-German with absolutely no chic, but beautifully presented - the pork knuckle was awesome!) at acceptable prices and with excellent portion sizes. Only the potato soup was a bit overpriced compared to the price of the main course and might be too spicy for some people, but I found it absolutely delicious! In "Wilhelm Hoeck" you can definitely be louder, or you have to live with a certain exuberant volume. Larger groups can accommodate here, but should reserve. The service is...well, how do I put it? .."authentic"...?🤷🏽‍♂️ You should be able to tolerate - for a while - VERY harsh Berlin-style warmth. You can say that Max, our waitress, who professionally managed the restaurant area on his own(!), managed (almost) always to sense exactly the moment when the "Berliner Schnauze" threatened to overshoot the mark and a pinch of charm was also called for. But it's probably just part of the Berlin "folklore" that you order here. Guests should therefore be aware that it is not a bad idea to have a thicker skin and a bit of charming self-confidence in order to win over the waitress. But to be honest, anyone who goes to a really (!) Old Berlin restaurant simply MUST be able to live and deal with this expression of lifestyle, otherwise there are plenty of other options for going out. We couldn't have chosen a better place for our day, with an evening visit to the Admiral's Palace on the theme of "Babylon Berlin", and Max, with his manner, was able to amuse and engage the group. Thanks for that! We sat in the "Restauration", the taproom, the "Destille" next door, has a special charm and was also well attended by regulars. You can certainly still go for a lift in a traditional but not too dusty environment. 😋

A super authentic pub with excellent, classic Berlin cuisine. Pork knuckle, liver and spare ribs prepared deliciously and juicy by chef Arthur. All of this is topped by Olli, the brilliant hostess. Isi says thank you for the really great cinema.

First of all: I only rate restaurants that I would like to visit again and again, because something can always go wrong with a one-time stand... and impressions are always individual. I also like to give not just 5 but a maximum of 10 stars in order to be able to differentiate better. Wilhelm Hoeck 1892, Old Berlin pub/restaurant at its finest in Charlottenburg. Met on a short trip to the capital in 01-2024. Everyone feels comfortable here, whether in fine thread or worn-out jeans. It's loud, but unfortunately awesome. You don't have to teach the staff Berlin snout, but it does make the atmosphere even more pleasant. Beer could, wine not so, but not drinkable would be different. For food there is a good selection of pretty well-made Berlin home cooking, down-to-earth but, and I hate to repeat myself, unfortunately awesome. The prices are impressive, especially in the capital. I have to search for a long time in the state capital to find something comparable. The pub's charm depends on the number of people present. Then it's difficult to get a place, but you can do it alone at home. It's hard to find a comparable rating here... As a pub I give it 9 out of 10. Restaurant 6 out of 10 with delicious home cooking that I could eat again and again every day. Update in 01-2025: once again in the capital. Looked in again. Everything was like a year ago, unfortunately awesome.

Everything was very good but we arrived 20 minutes before the kitchen closed asking if we could order food. They told us if we had enough so we could order without problems but the waiters forgot our order and brought it halfway, when we let them know they told us that nothing could be done since the kitchen was closed. We were hungry and had to leave.

I can only recommend the restaurant "Wilhelm Hoeck"! I was there with friends for the first time. We were warmly welcomed by "Olli", a super nice and lovely employee, and the service was great throughout. The kitchen is highly recommended, is German cuisine, but it tasted good throughout and was well prepared. So, definitely effective again👌👏

Absolute recommendation “The Wilhelm Hoeck 1892” is a journey into the past with an impressive history. We had the pleasure of being served by Kiki and it was a wonderful experience! From the moment we were shown to our table she was extremely friendly and accommodating. She welcomed us with a warm smile and skillfully brought us the menus straight away and asked if we would like something to drink while we browse the menu. Throughout our visit, in this impressive and historic setting of Wilhelm Hoeck 1892, Kiki was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. She knew the food and drinks perfectly and gave us the great recommendation to try the Königsberger Klopse, which turned our lunch break into a culinary delight. We were particularly impressed by her positive charisma and her ability to create such a pleasant atmosphere. She really took lovely care of us and made sure we were comfortable. Excellent pub/restaurant. The food is great, at a fair price. The ambience and atmosphere makes you feel good. And that person is competent, warm and “on his toes”.

We had an extra long table in time for around 20 people, at which everyone reserved space to hold our annual Christmas party. When we arrived we were divided into five different tables. The large table was now “reserved” for another group. We were also informed that, contrary to our reservation, we were only allowed to stay for two hours to make room for another group. This business practice is unacceptable. In addition, the waiter made an overwhelmed, grumpy impression. The orders were also requested several times. Therefore this place is not recommended.

We were there because of the report at the Berliner Abendschau. Even though I lived in the neighborhood for years, I was never in this pub. Unfortunately it looks run down and the path to the toilet doesn't look any better. The tiled floor in the restaurant is also old and looks cold. Everything like a waiting hall. But the biggest shame was our currywurst. We have eaten currywurst in many places, but this one was a joke! We have never seen such a small currywurst that was presented to us (at the normal price! tasted OK, hence 2 stars). As a chef, I wouldn't have dared to give these out or at least I would have made two of them. When we told the waitress this (she also knew that we wanted to share the curry!) she seemed helpless. She tried hard and was nice, but nothing was changed or added to make the guest happy. We paid and bye...

Were there on December 31st, 2024. For a few drinks and small meals. The place was buzzing, but the barman Max had everything under control. At the end we had a drink with him. Would love to come back.

Ich war mit meiner Freundin aus Thailand und meinen Eltern an einem Sonntagnachmittag hier essen. Es war großartig. Sehr schöner Ort super essen und eine wundervolle Bedienung. Kann ich nur jedem ans Herz legen der ein warmes Stück Berlin erleben möchte. Immer gerne wieder.

Real Berlin pub The pub was full to the brim, the staff seemed stressed, but we received a truly Berlin warm welcome and service. The food was hearty, but very tasty, great value for money. The drinks are also very fine, beer schnapps etc. After dinner someone sat down at the piano and played great music. We would be happy to come back next time you visit Berlin, be sure to make a reservation.

En cualquier vacación que tome a esta fascinante ciudad hay un pub que sé que voy a visitar y es Wilhelm Hoeck 1892 , ha estado aquí muchas veces a lo largo de los años, siempre lo pasó bien y así lo demostró en nuestra última visita. Un gran pub, uno de los más antiguos de Berlín, el interior es magnífico, un bar de servicio de madera maciza domina la sala principal, decoración y mobiliario del pub y un montón de opciones de asientos repartidos por todo este pub, es solo un gran pub para relajarse. Estuvimos aquí en una tarde de diciembre muy fría pero el pub era cálido al igual que la bienvenida del equipo del bar, pedimos cervezas de Berliner Kindle - Schultheiss Brauerei ( cerveza Schultheiss ) , estas se servían en excelentes condiciones siendo heladas frías y espumosas, nos relajamos y empapamos de la gran vibra en este pub ocupado y popular mientras bebíamos nuestras cervezas. Un gran fan de esta más famosa de las cervezas de Berlín , es de color dorado, una cerveza crujiente, bien equilibrada estilo lager, lúpulo, reventado de sabor y muy fácil de beber especialmente cuando se sirve frío helado como en este pub, era tan bueno estar en un pub tan encantador disfrutando de una cerveza de calidad y se sentó con mi hermano gemelo , mejor compañero de cerveza del mundo. Ambos disfrutamos mucho de nuestras cervezas en este pub local muy histórico antes de seguir adelante y aunque nuestra visita fue solo fugaz como en cada otra visita a Wilhelm Hoeck 1892 nos lo pasamos muy bien. Wilhelm Howck 1892 es fácil de localizar a lo largo de Wilmersdorferstraße. El horario de apertura es; Lunes a domingo, 11 am a 1 am. Un gran pub, uno que recomiendo encarecidamente que busque si está en el maravilloso distrito de Charlottenburg de Berlín.

I have a mixed impression about this place. Now I read the comments and understand that we (tourists) were deceived, as it was very difficult for us to explain in German or English. They didn't give us a menu, but I read on Google Maps what they had and ordered it. The food and beer were very tasty, really. But we were upset by the fact that they told us that they could only pay in cash and brazenly asked for a tip, although it turns out that they accept card payments in the establishment... we also waited a long time to order and to pay... but the food itself was brought quickly. The portions were huge. The atmosphere in the place is cool, it’s clear that the place is old. This is exactly what we wanted to visit and experience. They also specifically wanted to try German cuisine.

In itself a nice old German inn. But the evening was a total failure. You were greeted unfriendly by the waiter Mega and he was in a bad mood the whole time. However, the waiter became so aggressive and shouted at his colleague, "If there's a cent left over, it'll go bang today." When he came in, he said to my Chihuahua, "Oh, a rat, I'll definitely step on it." So his colleagues really feel good for me sorry. This person doesn't work in the restaurant industry at all. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the store ever again or to others. It's a shame because such inns are dying out.

Wir waren gestern dort. Das Lokal an sich ist sehr schön. Ein richtig schönes altdeutsches Gasthaus. Ich hatte das Tagesmenü, Kalbsleber mit Apfel-Zwiebel Ringen und Kartoffelpüree. Dieses war auch sehr lecker. Leider war der Kellner sehr schlecht. Er war unfreundlich und überfordert mit den Gästen. Man wollte eigentlich gleich wieder gehen. Bestellung nahm er erst an, nachdem man ihn mehrfach angesprochen hat. Er hat ständig irgendwas gegessen und in sich rein gemeckert. Außerdem bediente uns eine sehr nette Dame, die sein Mist versuchte Auszugbügel. Zum Schluss war ein Dreher in unserer Rechnung drin, woraufhin er Sie richtig aggressiv angeschrien hat,,wenn hier ein Cent übrig bleibt knallt es richtig". Also nochmal braucht man sowas nicht, wir wollten einfach einen gemütlichen Tag dort verbringen. Dazu kommt das wir in eine andere Ecke verfrachtet wurden als abgesprochen war. Es war absolut eng und für ältere Menschen mit der Stufe nicht geeignet. Einer wäre beinahe gestürzt.dazu wurden die Veranstaltung sehr dich an einander gelegt, gerade fertig mit essen wollte die nächste Truppe in unsere Ecke. Ich hatte meinen Chihuahua dabei , diesen bezeichnete der Kellner als Ratte und meinte er trete dort wahrscheinlich rauf. Alles in allem ein schlechtes lokal. Es hat von mir einen Stern für das Essen bekommen und einen Stern für die liebe Servicekraft, die alles versuchte wenigstens etwas angenehm zu machen. Nicht weiter zu empfehlen!!!!

Food is amazing schnitzel was huge. Has a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.

Authentic and pleasant Berlin experience, next time I'm in the city I will definitely return. Absolutely try the meatballs with caper sauce and their duck.

We had ordered a table in the "old part", which was very nice by the window. THE atmosphere is quaint and trapping with ramshackle charm. The service is original, Berlin-style, cheerful and on the ball. Drinks and food were served quickly. The portions were satisfying and beautifully garnished on the plate. Unfortunately the duck was mixed good, parts were tough. My liver was ok. Unfortunately, dumplings and mashed potatoes are not original, they taste like a “bag” or something similar. Price-performance ratio ok because of the historical atmosphere.

Tried to get a table on two days in a row, since I'm a sales representative, I was alone. 1st attempt would be bad today too many people coming too long waiting time should work better. Next day I got a table with a lot of will again. After being asked what I wanted to drink and being given the menu. Nothing followed for 20 minutes!!! Other guests were served and asked politely. When I wanted to leave the restaurant, the boss suddenly came? and tried to convince me to stay and the "nice" waiter complained about my behavior. Conclusion: the waiter has no decency and unfortunately I can't say anything about the food and drinks.

I am 54 years of age and I have never met a more obnoxious women with such a shocking attitude as the old bag that works there. 12 of us all 50 to 60 tried to go there and get a drink on our first night with a view of getting food as well. She just looked at me and said you have to make a reservation no help in how to make a reservation mind I said can't we just order a drink and stand and she said no its a restaurant. We left and 2 days later I tried again this time 2 of us popped in to try a beer or two as they are a craft beer place. There was at most 12 people in there I just asked nicely can we ask about the beers you do and she snapped reservation you have to make a reservation. I said I am sorry but you have more tables empty than people in here we only want a drink 2 of us . She snapped at me they are all reserved and will all be coming in soon so you can't come in. She clearly doesn't like us English at all absolutely disgusting attitude to customers. Here are the facts though 12 people we would of had a meal each and a few drinks in there easy the amount of money she lost over 2 days with her appalling service manner is madness. She clearly needs to learn about customers and how to treat them with respect. Don't bother with this place she is not worthy of your hard earned cash.

The ambience is nice. The bacon sauce was very tasty, the red cabbage was unfortunately cold and the potatoes and dumplings were soft and bland. You should like being constantly touched and informed about conspiracies from “those up there”. We didn't like that. Other than that, the waitress was attentive and nice until we paid without a tip. Then they threw the receipt at us and loudly complained about our disrespect. She then whispered to several other guests and shook her head and pointed her finger at us. There was no farewell. There won't be a reunion either.

We had a very cozy evening in the rustic taproom. Great service from Olli, who reads every wish from your lips and implements it. Top draft beer, super tasty kale with crackers and crispy fried potatoes. Delicious. Thank you Olli, thank you kitchen and see you soon, we'll be back! Greg & Maggie
