The food is exceptionally delicious and freshly prepared. It's not from a packet. The mashed potatoes are just like your mom's. The freshly tapped beer is very good. Fast and friendly service. They ask if everything is okay. The restaurant is partly furnished from the good old days. There are even old DM prices on the wall. You feel well looked after here. A must for every visitor to Berlin. A definite recommendation for the place.

There's Berliner Kindl on tap. It's very good. Allgäuer Büble is a tourist beer. There are better Helles.

An institution and Olli makes it a home

We went there twice within three evenings. The food was always delicious, the decor was quaint and historic, and the service (Oli) was first-class, just what you'd expect in Berlin. You should definitely visit at least once.

Finally made it to Wilhelm Hoeck—and immediately became a regular customer of the most welcoming Olli. Incredibly warm, quaint, and cozy. See you soon!

The vegan potato soup is the best in Berlin. My boyfriend had the Berlin currywurst with homemade sauce. Mmmmm, delicious! We were pampered from start to finish by the friendly staff. They anticipated our every wish. Nothing seems impossible in this authentic and traditional Berlin restaurant. It will be our new regular. We'll be happy to come back.

A truly quaint old Berlin shop. Everything's been in its original condition for over 100 years. When we were there for dinner, an older gentleman (I guess he was over 90) was playing the piano like he was 20. The waitress has a typical Berlin sense of humor (so she doesn't mean everything she says seriously ;). The food was great, very tasty. Thank you!

Delicious home-cooked food with a spontaneous live piano performance in a rustic, historic setting.

We wanted to sit on the sofas inside, but the old lady came over and said they were reserved. She even added, "Everyone's booked inside, why didn't you ask me?" She acted as if I owed her money, even though there was no sign indicating a reservation. The most ridiculous thing was that someone else sat down at the same spot we'd wanted. They didn't even acknowledge their reservations. They'd just walked in and sat down on their own. If they'd reserved, the waiter would have definitely shown them to their seats, and then the old lady just let them sit. Did she think she was being stupid? After we finished, I asked the young waiter for the bill, but she probably didn't hear or forgot. The old lady came over a moment later and asked if we could pay. Haha, this is the first time I've ever seen someone kick you out after you've finished eating, and there were hardly any people in the restaurant at the time. It was typical German rudeness. And like many other reviewers, the old lady only takes cash. "Go to the [service] sleeping bureau to check for any unauthorized sleeping." (Google is limited, so you'll understand.)

I like this pub, with its old Berlin charm. I come here every five years, and I always enjoy it. There were four of us here, we had a lot to drink and a little to eat, and the service was quick and efficient. The waitresses constantly addressed us informally, which, given our ages of 51 to 86, is something you'd have to like – I don't. I ended up rounding up a bill of €86.10 to €90. The waitress then complained to me that it wasn't even €1 per person. She then came back to our table and emphasized that it wasn't even a 5% tip. That's mathematically correct. As we left, my companions were greeted unfriendly. I—like them—find this behavior inappropriate. I will still be back!

Be careful! The waitress is cheating and rude. When paying the bill, the food suddenly costs more than the menu says! If you don't tip, the waitress will get very insulted and you'll immediately be banned from the restaurant. However, being banned isn't a bad punishment, as there's really no reason to return. The food is absolutely nothing special, and I would recommend the lovely Italian restaurant Sole d'Oro instead. Sole d'Oro is very good and inexpensive and is located just a few meters from Wilhelm Hoeck.

This is a very authentic place in Berlin. Which means, it can be conflicting for tourists. The Berliner way is direct, sometimes too direct, service is "rude", they don't like it if you pay with card etc. however, the atmosphere is great and they will treat you very nice if you show that you get it. It's not a place built around the needs of tourists but for the local Berliners with their-sometimes- darker vibes. This is next to my apartment and I've been visiting for 5 years now. I love it and recommend it always to those who want to see the local scene.

Wilhelm Hoeck is an old Berlin pub in Charlottenburg. Upon entering, you're greeted by the aroma of red cabbage, sauerkraut, and gravy. The landlady seems a bit grumpy at first, but this quickly subsides. A typical Berlin establishment, it quickly becomes welcoming. There are many beers on tap (including wheat beer) and Berlin cuisine (very tasty). The ambiance is quaint, with plenty of patina and a rustic bar. The clientele is diverse and very relaxed.

Open since 1892. Exactly what you'd expect from an old Berlin pub: honest food, draft beer, a birthday serenade, Berlin veal liver, currywurst, herring spit, and the listed interior with the portrait of Wilhelm Hoeck on the wall blackened by the soot of time. Vegetarians have good options. Even without the friendly service, who seems to be rooted in the concept, this would be a true place to slow down and unwind without any frills. John Lennon played in the background, and Aerosmith was turned up a bit louder. Not unpleasant and very atmospheric for a Monday evening. Very comforting and not from this crazy world. 5 ***** Deluxe!

I stumbled upon this place by chance. A charmingly warm welcome from the lady behind the bar ("Honey, sit down here with me, I'll bring you a beer right away"), and decent pub fare. The ambiance is unbeatable!

The only good thing was the service. The food was obviously frozen or from jars (e.g., vegetables, mushrooms, etc.), and the sauces were from Knorr or Maggi, not homemade. There were industrial potatoes, and the garnish looked like it had been sitting around for a long time. The food appeared to be in warming containers, which couldn't have been any other way, considering the four-minute wait after ordering.

We were looking for a "quaint" restaurant in the capital and found Wilhelm Hoeck 1892. The service was very straightforward and friendly, and we felt very well looked after. I rarely, if ever, drink beer, but the service was convincing and the food was delicious :D The food was also very good. We'll definitely go there again next time we visit Berlin ;)

I have really enjoyed this place in the past, it’s a special bar with its historic interior. But sadly the last time we went, the bar lady was very rude, mildly racist (under the guise of humour), and overly asked for a 20% tip, from a number of people in our group, Shameful.

We were at this restaurant again today after a long time. My cabbage roll with terrible Maggi sauce was supposed to cost 11.90 euros. The price was written on a board outside the door, but my bill came to 16.50 euros. Unfortunately, I only noticed it when I got home. So beware of the staff. We're Berliners and think, 'It's a shame what strangers think of our food.' It used to be good there, but now it's our last visit.

An old Berlin pub with a great atmosphere and service that's full of heart and soul. The beer is delicious, and there's a huge selection of "Schnäpperken" (small snacks) that will make everyone happy. We had a variety of dishes, all of which were good. My schnitzel, however, was dry, and the fried potatoes were too greasy. The fried egg was fresh two hours ago; I hope that'll be different next time, otherwise I'll help the chef make a fresh fried egg. It's really easy...

Overall, OK! Service was friendly, open, and fun. The atmosphere was cool. Food: OK, the fries were salty, the Wiener Schnitzel was OK, and it came with a dry lemon 🍋 (photo). That wasn't OK.

Super, super, super! I've rarely had such a great evening as today. The lady who serves and works at the bar does a fantastic job. She's the HEART of the whole place. She pours with so much love and always brings a cool vibe to the guests. The food is served very quickly. I travel a lot, but this restaurant is a miracle in the otherwise rather unfriendly Berlin scene. I hope to be able to go back there soon and hope the very, very nice lady is still there and hasn't been poached by another restaurant. Thank you again, it was a lot of fun. Best wishes.

My husband and I are in our early 60s. You immediately feel "in good hands/at ease." Very warm, friendly, caring, and fast service, even during busy, busy times. The food is really good, with a great selection, including "home-style" fare—just a little different! Highly recommended.

A beautiful location. The food was excellent. There are many small details everywhere. The waitress and owner are very friendly and have a very funny Berlin sense of humor. It's very pleasant, and I would eat and drink there again and again. The price/performance ratio is very good.

We happened upon this pub two days ago purely by chance and were absolutely thrilled. Excellent, straightforward, handcrafted German cuisine and an incredibly beautiful, nostalgic, authentic atmosphere in this part of town that was almost completely destroyed during the war. The service was also truly delightful. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely come back.

My son and I had arranged to meet for dinner and didn't want to go to the pizzeria around the corner, as usual. I had seen a program on RBB about restaurants in Berlin a while ago. I liked the report about Wilhelm Hoeck in 1892, so we decided to go there. And we both loved it. The super-nice Kiki showed us to our reserved table, and we immediately felt at home. The food was delicious and plentiful. We will definitely come back. Thank you, Kiki, for the wonderful hospitality. 😊

Mein Sohn und ich hatten uns zum Essen verabredet und wollten nicht, wie immer, in die Pizzeria um die Ecke gehen. Ich hatte vor einiger Zeit im RBB eine Sendung über Restaurants in Berlin gesehen. Der Beitrag über Wilhelm Hoeck 1892 hat mir gut gefallen und so haben wir uns entschieden, dort essen zu gehen. Und wir fanden es beide toll. Die super nette Kiki hat uns zu unserem reservierten Tisch gebracht und wir fühlten uns sofort wohl. Das Essen war sehr lecker und reichlich. Wir werden auf jeden wieder kommen. Food was not so good and the waiter was too forceful. I was not satisfied with the service but she pressured me to give her tips anyway and lectured me in front of everyone else.

Really cool place if you want to experience the charm of a bar/pub from bygone times. The furnishings are accordingly and you shouldn't expect soft upholstery or flawless furniture. The food we ordered came very quickly and we all enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I can recommend the tarte flambée. There are vegetarian dishes, but the choice is limited. In general it is German home cooking (roulades, steak, brawn, tarte flambée, schnitzel and the like). We were there at lunchtime, so at other times and when the house is full it may take longer. The price was also completely reasonable! The service also suited the restaurant thanks to the “Berlin snout” and could have made it a very good rating. My BUT what also stopped me from going there again and recommending it to others was the service. I also worked as a waitress and know that the job can be strenuous. Nevertheless, you have to behave accordingly towards your guests. When we arrived, the coffee machine was not being cleaned as scheduled, so coffee could not be made. It's a stupid situation and of course very unpleasant as a waitress (who worked alone), but I don't think you have to communicate your frustration and anger loudly through the restaurant. As a guest, you usually understand when the situation is explained to you calmly. When we arrived it took a while until we were served, but given the circumstances we heard, that wasn't a big deal. However, before that came the first condescending comment, which was quite obviously aimed at us, even if it wasn't said directly to us. "You can also say hello when you come in!" - of course we said hello, but if you complain loudly about the coffee machine you won't hear it... I was about to leave... In general, the operation seemed very scattered and overworked. Has mentioned several times that she has been doing 15-hour shifts for the last 3 days (due to illness, among other things). Of course this is physical and psychological. When serving/placing the order, she apologized, explained the situation calmly and was generally friendly. The food was served quickly and everything was fine. Then we wanted/did pay and rounded it up to an even amount, so we gave a tip. Of course, you can argue about how much tipping is appropriate, but for me personally it was clear after the comment at the beginning that I wouldn't have tipped. There is no obligation to tip and it wasn't even 5 cents, so I think you can't and shouldn't complain about what every guest is willing to give. Either you simply don't accept it or you let your anger/frustration out afterwards where the guests don't notice. In any case, the waitress was upset that the tip was so “small” (remember the comment at the beginning) - but only accepted the tip. The waitress also looked at the rest of us and expected/encouraged us to give a tip. When we went out, another guest probably told the waitress that she didn't have to accept the tip. Since we had smokers with us, we stood in front of the restaurant for a moment and then the waitress actually came running back to give us the tip back... In general, the waitress was very friendly and would stroke our guests' arms or take our hands, which I personally don't like at all with strangers. Although it was meant kindly, it wasn't appropriate in my opinion! I won't eat or drink there again! It's a shame for the actually cool place and good food.

Die Zeiten, in denen man in eine Kneipe geht und an einem freien Tisch Platz nimmt, sind im Hoeck leider vorbei. Wir wurden sofort aufgescheucht, als wir an einem winzigen Tisch zu zweit Platz nehmen wollten. Dies sei ein Mehrpersonentisch, an den wir uns nicht zu zweit setzen könnten. Wir dachten, dass man sich in einer Kneipe auch mal dazusetzt. Man hat sich im Hoeck offensichtlich auf Massenabfertigung in Form von Touristengruppen eingestellt. Kiezbewohner stören. Schade.

It was great, we came unannounced shortly before closing time with a large group of 30 people. We were served in a friendly manner and the chef conjured up everything we wanted on the table in a short time. Plus everything at reasonable prices. 10 stars plus

I've been to the restaurant several times. Actually the food is quite okay. But this time I had worse experiences. The steak was okay, but the fries were a bit soggy and the vegetables that came with it had probably been left on the stove overnight. Let's see, maybe it will be better next time.

Nice quaint pub. Price performance of the food was right. The service staff was very overwhelmed by the number of guests, but was always friendly in their manner. When the tip didn't meet her expectations, she was astonished! Patty and goodbye to friendliness! It got to the point where she spoke negatively about her to me in front of the person who invited us. Really a disgrace, disrespectful and more than unprofessional. Absolutely not a nice feeling that makes you want to come back.

Already on my first visit I noticed that the atmosphere here is completely different than in other German restaurants - much more comfortable, almost like a little journey back in time. The pork steak was so delicious that I came back today with a friend to eat it again. The friendly waitress, the delicious food and the beautiful weather made our experience perfect. We particularly liked the slightly burnt vegetables and potatoes - they had a delicate, sweet note and rounded off the dish wonderfully.

Eine ehrwürdige Kneipe, in der ich eine kurzweilige Zeit verbringen konnte. Es wird hier gepichelt und die Menschen haben Freude daran. Einfach eine richtig gute Kneipe, ohne Schnickschnack, und das seit mehr als 100 Jahren. Das Highlight war für mich der betagte Klavierspieler. Er spielte auswendig und locker sein Repertoire und man könnte meinen, dass er zum Inventar gehört. Es gab Applaus für seine Einlagen.

We discovered this pub completely by chance on our visit to Berlin and would like to recommend it to others. Great atmosphere with hearty food. A big compliment to dear Olli. She was very attentive and accommodating. There was also free live music on the piano. What more could you want?
