We had reserved a table for a girls' night out on Friday, November 7th, 2025, and received a wonderfully warm welcome and were given a fantastic table. Ollie, the server, is a gem...such patience and competence are rare these days. We felt very comfortable, and I will definitely recommend this restaurant! Every time we're in Berlin, a visit to Hoecke's is a must. The old Berlin atmosphere is simply fantastic, and the food is just as typical and delicious. We're always delighted when Olli serves us. Her warm Berlin hospitality has always charmed us!

I've rarely experienced such a beautiful and warm atmosphere! I'm a native Berliner (unfortunately, I moved away) and this place has given me back a piece of home. A very good Berlin restaurant in Charlottenburg, where some of the original features have been preserved, makes the restaurant very special. The food comes in generous portions and tastes excellent, just like mom used to make.

The food is extraordinary, I especially recommend the Berlin Dumpling. The atmosphere is very cool, and the volume level is high. The waitress is very friendly. It took a while to bring the food, but it is 100% worth it for the quality, the variety of German silverware and the atmosphere. You can pay by card from €20.

Be careful with that place! We got in, had a good beer, food was alright, everything was fine until... we had to pay... I waited at the bar for 10 minutes, the waitress leaned to me and asked me to leave 3 euros tips. I have never seen a waiter asking for a specific amount before... I said ok for 1 euro, the service did not deserve more, and she started being very agressive, threw the receipt over the counter!!! And left mumbling in German. Honestly this is the first time of my life I leave a comment online, it was shocking. And after reading the comments, this is happening a lot! This kind of person does not deserve your money, Berlin has plenty of nice places and people elsewhere.

A really cool restaurant. Even though the right-hand room seems a bit more rustic, the left-hand one was just as cool (there were too many of us for the right one ;)). This is still one of those cool old Berlin pubs. The food was also very good, and the service was quick and very attentive.

A quaint Betkin restaurant, partly in its original condition... survived the World Wars and is still popular! As a neighbor, I've been here a few times now, both on weekends and during the week, and I've been more than satisfied every time! Hearty, home-style German food, a cozy place, a typical Berlin crowd where you can easily make friends... and very friendly and fast service, very attentive to guests and in a good mood! Good food and reasonably priced for the portion size! Highly recommended, and reservations are strongly recommended on weekends...!! I've also experienced great live music on the weekends, with a fantastic atmosphere!

The food is exceptionally delicious and freshly prepared. It's not from a packet. The mashed potatoes are just like your mom's. The freshly tapped beer is very good. Fast and friendly service. They ask if everything is okay. The restaurant is partly furnished in the good old days. There are even old DM prices on the wall. You feel well looked after here. A must for every visitor to Berlin. A definite recommendation for the place.

There's Berliner Kindl on tap. It's very good. Allgäuer Büble is a tourist beer. There are better Helles.

We went there twice within three evenings. The food was always delicious, the decor was quaint and historic, and the service (Oli) was first-class, just what you'd expect in Berlin. You should definitely visit at least once.

The vegan potato soup is the best in Berlin. My boyfriend had the Berlin currywurst with homemade sauce. Mmmmm, delicious! We were pampered from start to finish by the friendly staff. They anticipated our every wish. Nothing seems impossible in this authentic and traditional Berlin restaurant. It will be our new regular. We'll be happy to come back.

Delicious home-cooked food with a spontaneous live piano performance in a rustic, historic setting.

A truly quaint old Berlin shop. Everything's been in its original condition for over 100 years. When we were there for dinner, an older gentleman (I guess he was over 90) was playing the piano like he was 20. The waitress has a typical Berlin sense of humor (so she doesn't mean everything she says seriously ;). The food was great, very tasty. Thank you!

We wanted to sit on the sofas inside, but the old lady came over and said they were reserved. She even added, "Everyone's booked inside, why didn't you ask me?" She acted as if I owed her money, even though there was no sign indicating a reservation. The most ridiculous thing was that someone else sat down at the same spot we'd wanted. They didn't even acknowledge their reservations. They'd just walked in and sat down on their own. If they'd reserved, the waiter would have definitely shown them to their seats, and then the old lady just let them sit. Did she think she was being stupid? After we finished, I asked the young waiter for the bill, but she probably didn't hear or forgot. The old lady came over a moment later and asked if we could pay. Haha, this is the first time I've ever seen someone kick you out after you've finished eating, and there were hardly any people in the restaurant at the time. It was typical German rudeness. And like many other reviewers, the old lady only takes cash. "Go to the [service] sleeping bureau to check for any unauthorized sleeping." (Google is limited, so you'll understand.)

Be careful! The waitress is cheating and rude. When paying the bill, the food suddenly costs more than the menu says! If you don't tip, the waitress will get very insulted and you'll immediately be banned from the restaurant. However, being banned isn't a bad punishment, as there's really no reason to return. The food is absolutely nothing special, and I would recommend the lovely Italian restaurant Sole d'Oro instead. Sole d'Oro is very good and inexpensive and is located just a few meters from Wilhelm Hoeck.

I like this pub, with its old Berlin charm. I come here every five years, and I always enjoy it. There were four of us here, we had a lot to drink and a little to eat, and the service was quick and efficient. The waitresses constantly addressed us informally, which, given our ages of 51 to 86, is something you'd have to like – I don't. I ended up rounding up a bill of €86.10 to €90. The waitress then complained to me that it wasn't even €1 per person. She then came back to our table and emphasized that it wasn't even a 5% tip. That's mathematically correct. As we left, my companions were greeted unfriendly. I—like them—find this behavior inappropriate. I will still be back!

This is a very authentic place in Berlin. Which means, it can be conflicting for tourists. The Berliner way is direct, sometimes too direct, service is "rude", they don't like it if you pay with card etc. however, the atmosphere is great and they will treat you very nice if you show that you get it. It's not a place built around the needs of tourists but for the local Berliners with their-sometimes- darker vibes. This is next to my apartment and I've been visiting for 5 years now. I love it and recommend it always to those who want to see the local scene.

Wilhelm Hoeck is an old Berlin pub in Charlottenburg. Upon entering, you're greeted by the aroma of red cabbage, sauerkraut, and gravy. The landlady seems a bit grumpy at first, but this quickly subsides. A typical Berlin establishment, it quickly becomes welcoming. There are many beers on tap (including wheat beer) and Berlin cuisine (very tasty). The ambiance is quaint, with plenty of patina and a rustic bar. The clientele is diverse and very relaxed.

Open since 1892. Exactly what you'd expect from an old Berlin pub: honest food, draft beer, a birthday serenade, Berlin veal liver, currywurst, herring spit, and the listed interior with the portrait of Wilhelm Hoeck on the wall blackened by the soot of time. Vegetarians have good options. Even without the friendly service, who seems to be rooted in the concept, this would be a true place to slow down and unwind without any frills. John Lennon played in the background, and Aerosmith was turned up a bit louder. Not unpleasant and very atmospheric for a Monday evening. Very comforting and not from this crazy world. 5 ***** Deluxe!

The only good thing was the service. The food was obviously frozen or from jars (e.g., vegetables, mushrooms, etc.), and the sauces were from Knorr or Maggi, not homemade. There were industrial potatoes, and the garnish looked like it had been sitting around for a long time. The food appeared to be in warming containers, which couldn't have been any other way, considering the four-minute wait after ordering.

We were looking for a "quaint" restaurant in the capital and found Wilhelm Hoeck 1892. The service was very straightforward and friendly, and we felt very well looked after. I rarely, if ever, drink beer, but the service was convincing and the food was delicious :D The food was also very good. We'll definitely go there again next time we visit Berlin ;)

I have really enjoyed this place in the past, it’s a special bar with its historic interior. But sadly the last time we went, the bar lady was very rude, mildly racist (under the guise of humour), and overly asked for a 20% tip, from a number of people in our group, Shameful.

We were at this restaurant again today after a long time. My cabbage roll with terrible Maggi sauce was supposed to cost 11.90 euros. The price was written on a board outside the door, but my bill came to 16.50 euros. Unfortunately, I only noticed it when I got home. So beware of the staff. We're Berliners and think, 'It's a shame what strangers think of our food.' It used to be good there, but now it's our last visit.

An old Berlin pub with a great atmosphere and service that's full of heart and soul. The beer is delicious, and there's a huge selection of "Schnäpperken" (small snacks) that will make everyone happy. We had a variety of dishes, all of which were good. My schnitzel, however, was dry, and the fried potatoes were too greasy. The fried egg was fresh two hours ago; I hope that'll be different next time, otherwise I'll help the chef make a fresh fried egg. It's really easy...

Super, super, super! I've rarely had such a great evening as today. The lady who serves and works at the bar does a fantastic job. She's the HEART of the whole place. She pours with so much love and always brings a cool vibe to the guests. The food is served very quickly. I travel a lot, but this restaurant is a miracle in the otherwise rather unfriendly Berlin scene. My husband and I are in our early 60s. You immediately feel "in good hands/at ease." Very warm, friendly, caring, and fast service, even during busy, busy times. The food is really good, with a great selection, including "home-style" fare—just a little different! Highly recommended.
