Wenzel Leipzig in Leipzig

Dear Sir/Madam, I'm sorry to say my meal was disappointing! The potatoes were sitting in water, the schnitzel was frozen, and the sauce was from a can! It was simply unacceptable. To make matters worse, two employees were arguing loudly about who had called whom. There were far too many negative incidents. We're used to a completely different experience at the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen. Kind regards, and please do better next time!

I'd gladly come back again and again. Drink prices are a bit steep, though. The service was excellent.

That was quite expensive. Dumplings and goulash for €20. Oh well. The atmosphere was sometimes gloomy and not very inviting. In short, something to talk about, nothing more.

We ate at the Wenzel Prager Bierstuben in Leipzig today. Unfortunately, the price doesn't match the quality and quantity of the food. €19 for a portion is too much.

We went there spontaneously with friends and our child. At first the tall waiter seemed quite "nice" and when we asked if there was anything available he said he could get us in. We thought it was the boss because he spoke to us so snottily. But it turned out differently! When we ordered, we were asked about the children's ages, even though the parents were there and were allowed to order what they thought was right. He immediately gave us a "telling" and was no longer friendly. We also felt like we were out of place! The youngest child was completely ignored and so we had to ask for painting supplies, etc. Thankfully the evening was saved for us by the nice waitress, who gave us a good tip. There was very little food but the taste was great. Addendum!!! The boss didn't serve us, but an employee who acted like he was the boss. My child is 6 years old, and as an adult you should realize that they need children's painting supplies!!!

Very friendly service. The outdoor seating is definitely great in the sunshine, too. It's cozy inside, though. Unfortunately, my Leberkäse (meatloaf) wasn't that great. The cucumber and potato salad was good, though.

A quaint inn with friendly service. The food was very good. The price was fair. We'd be happy to come back.

Unfortunately, the quality wasn't very good. The knuckle of pork was sloppy and not crispy as the waitress described. The garlic brittle, although tested, was crispy around the edges but soggy in the middle. Sorry, but the competition in Leipzig can do better. And at least as expensive, if not cheaper.

Good coffee. The service could be more attentive and friendly. You can tell there are a lot of people there and the staff sees it as a job. The coffee museum is fun but not interactive, and you have to know about it because it's located nowhere near the coffee shop and on the top floors.

Unfortunately, it was full, which is understandable on a Saturday. So we sat outside, under cover, in a walk-through area. Unfortunately, it was a bit drafty. But the service and food definitely made up for it. It was incredibly delicious. I haven't eaten such a crazy place in a long time. Everything was perfect. Even the schnitzel came with half a lemon. Elsewhere, you only get a thin slice. The sauce was incredibly delicious. Everything was perfect. I'll definitely be back!! Highly recommended!!!

The staff is friendly and attentive, the food is very good and comes very quickly. It's worth a visit in Leipzig.

Food and drinks were top-notch. We had the smoked pork, knuckle of pork, and a platter of various appetizers. Everything tasted delicious. The service was very helpful at first and provided us with detailed information about the dishes when we had questions. When we asked for more gravy, they ignored us and after a few minutes, we were served a plate with the gravy and Bohemian dumplings. This was surprising, as we weren't informed that apparently you couldn't order just the gravy separately, but that it only came with the dumplings. In the end, it wasn't a big deal, but communication would be better!

Great atmosphere but too expensive

The schnitzel was ok but 3-5 boiled potatoes on the side and an army of sprouts is not what I would expect as proper garnish. I checked the menu once more and it said butter potatoes. The service was ok and efficient but not no one smiles and makes you feel welcome. Considering the price level I can’t go above 3 stars.

The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is very good. You can sit comfortably in the covered courtyard, which is also sheltered from the wind. Typical Czech dishes and drinks are served. The atmosphere is pleasant, the restrooms are clean and state-of-the-art, and the restaurant is centrally located and worth a visit.

A charmingly rustic, surprisingly sizeable restaurant—especially out in the back courtyard, with outside seating—as well as a traditional Bohemian pub. Food is hearty and wholesome; drinks, notably the beer from the tap, are stout and fresh. There is plenty of space for groups and families; it is much larger than would appear from the street. Service is swift, friendly, functional. Cash, credit, debit accepted. A highly recommendable restaurant and pub overall.

Wollten eigentlich nur einen schönen Abend verbringen. Wurde leider nichts daraus, da das Personal total überfordert war. 45 Minuten Wartezeit auf ein zweites Bier geht gar nicht. Sind dann entnervt gegangen und werden auch nicht so schnell wieder kommen.

Kurzentschlossen sind wir zu viert hier eingekehrt, wollten eigentlich nur ein tschechisches Bier trinken. Aber es kam anders, wir blieben länger und aßen auch noch was. Die Getränke wurden von dem flotten und freundlichem Service schnell gebracht, das Essen später ebenso. Und alles war super lecker! Knödelpommes kannte ich bis hierhin noch nicht, aber die sind echt klasse! Wir hatten einen schönen Nachmittag beim Wenzel! Einzig die draußen aufgestellten Sitz/Tisch-Kombinationen könnte man kritisieren, die sind auf Dauer dann doch unbequem.

The four of us decided to stop by on a whim, originally just wanting to have a Czech beer. But things turned out differently; we stayed longer and had something to eat. The drinks were brought quickly by the friendly and prompt service, and the food was also served later. And everything was absolutely delicious! I hadn't tried dumpling fries before, but they're really great! We had a lovely afternoon at Wenzel! The only criticism is the outdoor seating/table combination; it's uncomfortable after a while.

I honestly don't know where all the other people ate, but this is what happened to us: The chicken burger was raw inside, Aperol is sold at exorbitant prices without a receipt, the outdoor seating is tiny, so you're usually seated in the courtyard on mediocre plastic chairs. The service is also usually rude and extremely inflexible when it comes to swapping side dishes.

The dishes are very well prepared and served fresh. The staff is friendly and, despite the high customer frequency during our visit, very prompt. We highly recommend the large Wenzel knuckle.

I don't think anything is actually cooked here. It's all very simple canteen-style food. It's not worth the money by a long shot. Even the bread they give you with some of the dishes was stale. Ouch.

This time we were very disappointed. We had to pre-book and get the most uncomfortable seat (so you can't bother). The service was very rude. A warm welcome, dear guest, but it couldn't be better. And the food was absolutely terrible. The chicken breast with oven-baked vegetables was a joke (flavorless chicken breast with a bone-in filling, oven-baked vegetables burnt and cold, and very little for €19.34). The goulash was tough and cold. And criticism is very difficult to handle. We simply weren't served again. It's a shame.

An absolute highlight in Leipzig! Wenzel impresses with a cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and a menu that leaves nothing to be desired. The Bohemian cuisine is not only authentic but also excellently prepared – the dumpling dishes and the freshly tapped beer are particularly recommended. The portions are generous, the value for money is good, and you'll feel completely at home. If you're in Leipzig and looking for something special off the beaten track, you should definitely visit Wenzel!

We went to Wenzel as a family. While the ambiance and service were good, we all found the portions quite small (e.g., the Käsespätzle) and overpriced.

Good food, generous portions. The potato soup was too expensive at over €7 and small. It was more like mashed potatoes and not really Bohemian - a shame. €70 for two people, including a €7 tip, was too steep for the portions, we thought.

The Wenzel in Leipzig Located in the back courtyard and discovered after visiting the zoo. Just a short walk away. Even without an appointment, you'll receive a really friendly welcome. A table for four? We got a table right away. I'm always impressed by friendly staff. The food? Bohemian dishes... Every dish sounds incredibly delicious. Overall, it was okay. Very nice atmosphere. The food can't be judged based on one dish. The goulash was good. Could have been hotter.

We felt like we were on vacation. Great service, delicious food, and a little corner of Leipzig that reminded us of vacation.

There were 10 of us outside and we were invited to a table for 8. They promised us two additional chairs, but we could only get them through self-service. We only ordered drinks and waited over 25 minutes. More wait staff would have significantly improved the experience.

This is exactly what you need. Delicious Bohemian food with great beer. Reservations are highly recommended.

The food was alright, nothing spectacular or horrible. The staff was very active, except she was nowhere to be seen when we wanted to pay. We had to walk to the counter to find her and then we were asked to leave a tip 🤷🏻‍♀️ This reminded us of a tourist trap in Prague. We should have known better that it could be relocated to Germany.

Came here on the recommendation of a friend. An incredibly great restaurant. Very friendly service who also recommends a delicious beer to go with the dish. The food was very tasty, good portion. The atmosphere there was very pleasant and we felt very comfortable there.

Went there spontaneously for lunch. Okay, pork schnitzel was out but no problem. I had Kassel neck (could have used a slice more meat) which was very tasty and my girlfriend had the Wenzel burger. Both were thrilled. And your limos are great!!!

There are high chairs for children, a children's menu and a children's corner (small). The food and beer were delicious. Service only for 3-4. There is a comfortable patio inside. There were many free tables on Tuesday evening.

We were in Leipzig last week and reserved a table at Wenzel. The ambience is quite appealing, the service was a bit cold. We wanted to try original Bohemian cuisine. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. My husband had the Wenzel style beef roast with wild mushroom sauce. Unfortunately there were hardly any mushrooms. The meat was okay so far. I had beef goulash, which was a bit overcooked and the portion was also very manageable. The sauerkraut was too sweet for us and the Bohemian dumplings were dry and tasted like nothing. We were really disappointed and will not recommend this restaurant.

We were looking for a good restaurant late on a Saturday evening and found it at Wenzel. Food and drinks were very good, only the elderberry beer was a matter of taste. A relaxed evening with friendly service.

Czech-inspired restaurant with solid cuisine, but without the wow factor. The guest room has a medieval character, but seems rather plain to me with the simple wooden tables and chairs and is a bit too dark for me personally. The feel-good atmosphere is missing here. The menu is kept small. Here you can get classic home cooking such as goulash, roulade, knuckle and schnitzel. Typically Czech as a side dish: Bohemian dumplings & potatoes as well as various types of cabbage. As the name “Prager Bierstuben” suggests, you can get a large selection of different beers here. The “Bakalar” we ordered was nice and tasty! A real recommendation! For dinner there was the beef roulade with red cabbage and butter potatoes. This was a decent size and tasted good. The cream roast beef we ordered was also well received. The dishes could only have been served a little hotter. The “Three Quark Dumplings” filled with cherry, apricot and nougat filling were very tasty! You should definitely try it. Price-wise, it’s perfectly fine for city center conditions! The service was great! We were greeted warmly and shown to our seat. The orders were also taken and served without a long wait. We also regularly asked whether anything else was needed without being intrusive. Delicious beer and good food! If you don't expect anything out of the ordinary, you can definitely pay a visit to the "Wenzel Prager Bierstuben".

Unfortunately, deduction for the service. The glasses and plates had been empty for 30 minutes and we had to get up from the table ourselves and ask 2 employees to get attention again. One thing in advance: I sent this review to the restaurant over two weeks ago, unfortunately there was no response from the operator. Food top, service flop First, we were told three times (!!!) by a visibly stressed gentleman that we had to leave the table at 6 p.m. instead of saying “Hello”. We had a table at the back of the restaurant, the gentleman sprinted ahead at such a speed that my 60 year old mother almost fell on the landing/small step. We felt a bit stressed by the numerous information about the time pressure and then had to wait a full 10 minutes to be able to place our drink order. The lady who came to our table was just as stressed as her colleague and incredibly unfriendly. Shortly afterwards a second lady came and also wanted to take the drinks. When the drinks came, one was missing (there were only four of us). When asked about this, the service person with the glasses turned around without saying a word and came back with the missing drink. She slammed it onto the table without a word as she passed by (not even at the guest's seat without a drink) and turned back to the large party next to us/in the back of the restaurant (birthday party who were served around 20 cakes). All in all, the service at this point seemed extremely overwhelmed and very, very poorly organized. We waited just as long again to order our food. We were now running out of time because we were told in no uncertain terms that our table had to be free by 6 p.m. When ordering food, we had a server who was also stressed but at least tried hard (without glasses), who apologized at least partially and stated that on a Saturday the restaurant only had 10 service staff for the huge indoor area, two outdoor areas and the large birthday party (!!). Unfortunately, the food ordering was just as poorly organized: the fact that people ordered their food (starter and main course) one after the other, as is usual everywhere else, led to absolute chaos. It was explained to us that the in-house ordering system required us to first order the starters as a group and then the main courses. Part of the typed order had to be deleted and re-recorded. The erratic disorganization and the clearly verbalized time pressure made us completely nervous at this point; there was no question of a relaxed meal in a nice atmosphere. In addition, the lady with glasses came back and wanted to take our food order. When we told her that we had already ordered, she rushed off again just as quietly. The food came quickly and was very tasty, and we were also asked again about our drink requests. However, with a table bill of €180.00, I find the conditions described unbearable. With all understanding for staff absences or shortages, it cannot be that this comes at the expense of professionalism and, above all, at the expense of the customer. An extra point for the hard-working lady without glasses, but we definitely wouldn't come back. It's a shame, because the atmosphere and especially the food really had potential.

My tarte flambée was subpar, arrived already cold and was overall lousy. Somehow the wooden board underneath had a negative impact on the taste. My colleagues had goulash with dumplings, well what can I say, it's unfortunately the ready-to-eat brewery canteen food that's available in many places. Augustiner on the market is similar, but a shade better. It's better to go to the Bavarian train station, much better and a little cheaper.

Nice staff. Great location. Delicious food. Prices are rising in Leipzig style like everywhere else. We think the P/L ratio is still good here. A little tip for ice cream gourmets, choose the children's portion and ask nicely for one of the other types of ice cream and get a taste of the range cheaply and deliciously.

If you want to eat good, rustic food in Leipzig and drink a good beer with it, you can't miss Wenzel. The knuckle in particular is fresh, crispy and good, and even in Bavaria some restaurants could take it as a model. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

An unserem 48. Hochzeitstag waren wir in Leipzig und haben uns für den 10.03. dieses Restaurant im Vorfeld ausgesucht. Da sich unsere 9 stündige Zugfahrt nach Leipzig um etwa 20 Minuten verspätet hat, wurden wir von der Bedienung zuerst gemaßregelt, dass wir ein paar Minuten zu spät waren. Die im Nachhinein unnatürlich aufgesetzte Freundlichkeit hat uns fast zum Verlassen des Restaurants veranlasst, aber bedingt durch die anstrengende Anreise sind wir dort geblieben. Das Essen und die Getränke waren o.k., wobei die Vorspeise der Knödel-Pommes sehr gut war.
