Weinhexenkeller in Cochem

I had a lovely stay at the Weinhexenkeller Cochem. The atmosphere was cozy and rustic, just right for the Moselle region. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the location right on the water is lovely. The food was okay, schnitzel from the deep fryer... I'd love to come back and try something else from the menu.

Nice place, a bit away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely terrace with a great view. Attentive service. The food was tasty but average, but perfectly acceptable for the prices. The restrooms could use an update.

The price-performance ratio for the location is decent, and the staff is very friendly. The terrace offers a fantastic view of the castle.

The restaurant is nothing special. The waitress with the short, dark-red hair was a nightmare. Unfriendly and incompetent.

The food is okay. The wine is reasonable, even the more expensive variety. But not exactly a highlight. All in all, we enjoyed sitting on the terrace and had a decent meal.

Probably a former wine cellar. The dampness is noticeable on the walls, but it's quaint. The food was also good, especially the penne with salmon cream sauce. All in all, a cozy place. In nice weather, you can even sit outside with a view of the Moselle.

A lovely spot for a bite to eat and/or a drink. The waitress was friendly, but a bit stressed; the man was a bit more relaxed. 😄 We both had a sausage dish, not gourmet, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The dessert was also good. A pleasant, quiet terrace with a beautiful view of the old town and the boats.

Four adults and I ate there tonight. A big compliment to the very friendly service. However, the food was so bad that none of us ate it. Three schnitzels with chanterelles and one pork medallion with chanterelles. The chanterelle sauce had curdled on all the plates and was served as a gray mush with a few chanterelles on the meat. The breading on the schnitzels was soggy. The medallions had the consistency of shoe soles. Only the fries were edible. You could tell the waitress knew our plates weren't the first to be returned, but she was confident enough to announce that she hadn't cooked the food. On the upside, we didn't have to pay for the food either. Never again at Weinhexenkeller!

The food and service were good, but there were heated discussions in the background in the kitchen so that the waitresses finished work early and some guests left early... It's a shame that doesn't have to be like that 😞 that's why only two stars

As many others have already written, the view of the Reichsburg and the beautiful ambiance are more appealing than the food. We were seated right away and didn't have to wait long for our food. The server was very nice. The beer was also tasty. However, since we came to this restaurant primarily for the food, we were ultimately a bit disappointed. I ordered a chanterelle cream schnitzel with fries and ketchup. I got a cream schnitzel with fries and mayo (1 point deducted). My companion, like me, also had a schnitzel. Unfortunately, both were very dry, and you could tell they weren't fresh, but rather from the deep fryer. The sauce also seemed more like a ready-made sauce (another point deducted). The fries were tasty (but you can't usually go wrong with them). Unfortunately, the restaurant loses the final point for the far too expensive food with absolutely average quality. One gets the impression that the restaurant is not designed for regulars, but rather for quickly serving tourists, without regard for quality.

Rip-off!!!!! Not really recommended! The tarte flambée was okay. My deep-fried Jägerschnitzel with ready-made sauce was way too expensive for the quality. The fries were undercooked and way too salty. The waitress wasn't one for criticism. She said the fries were fresh from the deep fryer and then took the plate away. She didn't ask if she should bring more or apologize, nooooo! Of course, the bill included everything! Rip-off!!!!!

Had delicious salads. Friendly waiter and beautiful view. Better than the schnitzel places and pizzerias across the street. Good value for money.

I was here last week evening with my girlfriend, and the drinks were good and the prices were reasonable. The ice cream looked well-made too! The servers were quite nice, but they made us pay the second they were about to close, without telling us the closing time or making it clear in any way. I would have preferred to be told the closing time instead of being passive-aggressively asked to leave in the future.

Fantastic view of the Moselle and very friendly service!

We escaped the hustle and bustle of the city and visited the terrace of this café-restaurant. It's located on the Moselle River across from the center of Cochem. It wasn't busy that evening. Although it wasn't busy, our waiter didn't ask us what we wanted to drink for another 10 minutes. We ordered our main course right away. Our drinks arrived promptly. When we asked the waiter after at least 45 minutes where our meal was, it turned out he hadn't told the kitchen. So we repeated what we wanted to eat, and after 8 minutes, it was on the table. The waiter then simply apologized (...). Dessert was delivered in stages. My table companion got the ice cream; I had to wait at least another 3 minutes before it arrived. Ugh. In short: excellent food, but the organization on the terrace (waiter and supervisor) leaves much to be desired. Such a shame. It could have been such a lovely evening.

Cozy restaurant, but unfortunately, you pay a lot for the beautiful view. The schnitzel is made of pressed meat and comes from a deep fryer; the price/performance ratio isn't right here. The toilet is in dire need of renovation/repair.

One of the few places in Cochem that felt a bit German to us. A nice escape from the hustle and bustle, a view of the river, and simply excellent food. We enjoyed a delicious schnitzel here with a glass of wine, in a nice, relaxed spot. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Wanting a drink, but it wasn't allowed because it was "dinner time" (5 p.m.). It wasn't mentioned anywhere and we were only told after we were seated. Not very hospitable.

We enjoyed a glass of wine here on the beautiful terrace overlooking the Moselle and the castle at sunset. It was fantastic. I can't say much about the food.

Dirty shop. The Riesling served was tasteless and overpriced at €6.90. The toilets stink to high heaven. Everything is disgusting. Rip-off of passers-by. The wine is different from what is advertised on the menu. No origin stated. It's probably a cheap product – relabeled as a high-quality one. Customer fraud on a massive scale.

Actually a nice restaurant with a great outdoor terrace right on the Moselle in Cochem. But that's about it with a positive review. There were five of us eating there. The welcome was fine and we were served pretty quickly. Then we went. The portion size of four meals was more on the child's side. Furthermore, in my opinion the schnitzels were what were known as "shaped schnitzels" and no bigger than a cup plate!!!! The "Moselspießbraten" (Mosel spit roast) that my son (32 years old) had was a joke. Two small slices and two rösti on the plate. The only thing that was okay were the currywursts with fries. But that was about it. The five adults ended up paying just under 130 euros, including one drink per person!!!! Not recommended!!!!

Wonderful, a break from the hustle and bustle of the touristy side of Cochem. We'd already had lunch and regretted not doing so. So we just had a glass of good wine with an apple tart with ice cream and cheese. Delicious. So, to all the tourists out there, definitely cross the bridge if you want to enjoy a more peaceful experience. The service was super friendly! Highly recommended!

Because of its convenient location, we (two people) went to the Weinhexenkeller in Cochem for dinner. The service was very friendly and quickly assigned us a table. The wines were good, but the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered tagliatelle with fresh chanterelle mushrooms and a schnitzel with fresh creamed chanterelle mushrooms. The cream sauce consisted of an indefinable paste (more like mush) that was on both the schnitzel and the tagliatelle. The so-called fresh chanterelle mushrooms were indefinable to us, as they were extremely small and all looked the same. The prices are probably due to the convenient location, but not to the quality of the food. Otherwise, we simply enjoyed the beautiful view and the setting sun.

Tourist spot with nothing special to offer.

We came here last weekend for wine and a tarte flambée. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff were very friendly and quick, and the wine was delicious. The tarte flambée was okay—nothing special, but it was tasty. The prices are a bit higher there, but not excessive. This was our favorite place to drink wine in Cochem, so we went back for another one in the evening. We'll be back!

We arrived here for dinner and were met with an unfriendly waitress. We ordered our food, but she brought us more than we'd ordered, then told us we had to pay for everything. It was truly disgraceful!

We were greeted by a terrible waiter. The food was terrible. We ordered three portions and received four, and we had to pay for them. Hair in the extra portion. Unfriendly service. Never go there, please.

The worst service we ever experienced anywhere. We arrived, sat down and 1 minute later, a better table freed up, with good view of the castle and river. We asked to change tables for it, and the head waiter simply said we could not. Why we asked, the answer was you must sit in the back table with no explanantion, and rudely told us, ordered us to sit at the back table. We had not even ordered anything yet. So rude, we were so surprised and did not feel comfortable and felt we had to leave. Unbelievable.

Friendly and fast staff. Unfortunately, the food was a point deducted for a pre-frozen schnitzel. A restaurant like this should be able to make a good schnitzel itself.

The white wine we were given wasn't cold... and then we had to drink it from glasses from the 70s... A disappointment both in terms of taste and appearance.

We only had a drink, which was reasonably priced. The server was friendly. Of the two women's restrooms (very dated), one was broken, and the flush in the other was very weak.

We only stopped here for a short break. But it was a really nice place to sit. The staff was super friendly and uncomplicated. We quickly got a table. Great.

So, this place/restaurant is absolutely not recommended, but not because of the ambiance! The service there is so unfriendly! As soon as we entered the terrace, he told us it would take a while because he was alone, and then he blamed us for getting confused while taking our order. As if that wasn't enough, he then threw the menu onto another table with noticeably more anger/annoyance! He was also so unfriendly to other guests and kept making annoyed noises! This is definitely a state of affairs that we can't afford in this industry, and this was the first time we've experienced something like this! I'd like to rate it higher, but we weren't served at all. The waiter walked past us twice, and the tables next to us were served, but we weren't even given a second glance. He must have been an Olympic waiter, who only comes by every four years. One star is simply too many...

Today, we came out onto the terrace with the family and wanted a drink. The waiter yelled at us as we walked past without even saying hello: "The kitchen won't open until later. If you just want a drink, you'll have to wait. I'm alone." No table offered, nothing. I followed him to the kitchen door and asked: "Can we sit down, because we just want a drink?" Then I was yelled at again with the same remark: "If we're patient, we can sit down, otherwise we can leave..." Incredible!! I've never experienced anything like that in my life. We then went to the next restaurant, where we were greeted warmly and offered a seat. The terrace was almost completely full, with more people than here, and they even served us food – and: there was only one waiter – but he handled everything super quickly. I strongly recommend reconsidering the staff... or just not bothering if you don't feel like it. So, sorry...

Clearly designed for one-time tourists! You probably won't be a regular here. The view of the Moselle is much more appealing than the quality. The decor is very mismatched and dated. The schnitzel we chose was pressed meat with ready-made parnade, drenched in oil. It's more like a motorway service station from the 80s.

No. My husband and I wanted to eat here. After we stood at the sign “Please wait here” for 5 minutes and several waiters walked past us, we just shook our heads and gave a hand signal along the lines of “no more tables available, go away.”. We found that impossible. We would have accepted a friendly “Sorry, there are no tables left” with understanding. But it's impossible to scare us away with a wave of your hand. This is not how you welcome customers. We then went out for a delicious meal at a few local places.

Upon arrival we were received in a questionable manner by the waiter. Finally we took a seat near the kitchen and were able to enjoy the complaints about the guests and the workload, the terrace was half full. Bruschetta was tasty but the main course (Holzfeller steak) was substandard. Some of the meager beilage salat still contained sand or at least something suspiciously 'crunchy'. Asked several times for the bill but was always postponed. When we decided to get up and 'walk away' the bill was delivered in no time. Admittedly, the poor woman had to do three quarters of the work alone because the other waiter did all the work. Much can be achieved here with better, friendlier communication and a more efficient approach to service. Not recommended for now, only the view is beautiful.

I would like to expressly thank the unfriendly waiter again. If he hadn't sent us away so rudely, we certainly wouldn't have found the excellent restaurant a little further away. Thanks for that. We will definitely go to the other local one again on our next vacation.

Chic from the outside and magnificent view but clearly a tourist trap. Ready-made Aperol Spritz, poor quality whipped cream, Fanta 0.4cl at €4.90 but served at 0.30-0.35cl. The waiter didn't even say thank you or goodbye after collecting the bill (really to say, you didn't leave a tip, get out).

No. Even though there wasn't much going on, we would be ignored, overlooked or something else. 3 families came after us and were served before us. Maybe we weren't loud enough? Not dressed conspicuously? After a long wave, we were finally noticed. No apologies or sorry.

We came for coffee. On the recommendation of the service staff, we ordered the warm apple cake with cream and ice cream. It was brought to us early. The warm apple cake was VERY good. Cellar smell, ancient furniture. Waiters very attentive and friendly. Food and drinks come quickly The food: Bruscetta over-peppered and no olive oil taste. Tarte flambée hot, good. Spit roast with tasty jus, hot and the rösti average. You get full for an average price. Please light up the stairs urgently. Output from the vault does not illuminate and the stairs to the street also illuminated. Very daring!

We went for dinner with a small group (in the evening). The various dishes were “standard goods” in the catering industry. The Lumberjack STEAK was a non-breaded schnitzel and was served burnt (on both sides). [What do I do if I order the steak English or medium? Give it a quick stroke with a hairdryer?] We saw the prices quoted for this (when we stayed in Cochem) in the top region; On the other bank of the Moselle you can eat much cheaper with comparable quality.

The food was okay. Not really special, but still tasty. Definitely a good choice for quick hunger pangs. Very friendly staff and the food was served quickly. The staff also responded very well to additional requests for food. The only thing that wasn't invested much time or attention was the sanitary facilities. Unfortunately, everything was there, from very loose fittings to non-functioning toilet flushes. Too bad!

Friendly and polite service staff. Two of our meals were as expected and the other two we imagined were different. The schnitzel was fried far too dark and dry, the onions were partly black and the minced steak was at best standard. It should also be mentioned here that after the sun was gone, it wasn't particularly crowded anymore. After our complaint, the service staff acted well as far as they could. The food and the friendly service staff and the location together result in a rating of 3 stars. From our point of view, there is still room for improvement. Prices are reasonable. We hope that our evaluation helps to identify and implement potential for improvement.

We booked a room in the hotel there. Great service and really friendly owner. Were very satisfied. Unfortunately the restaurant was not recommended, the staff was nice, but had to pay in between because it was after work. In the event of a “drinks accident” that we caused ourselves (a glass fell over), the waiter immediately replaced it without asking. In our opinion, the food was rather subterranean. At a normal price it's not much, but it's probably frozen and carelessly prepared, the salad portion is negligible. The minced steak was particularly bad, without words. So overall you can eat much better. We would definitely not recommend this restaurant for food. It's a shame given the excellent location.

After a wonderful visit to the Cochem Castle, a sunset dinner at Weinhexenkeller is the perfect spot to finish (or start) your day at Cochem. With a spectacular view of the Cochem Castle and Village, you will certainly enjoy its food, service, and atmosphere. Enjoy...

I give two stars for the quality of the service and its kindness but I couldn't even eat, the kitchen closed at 8:25 p.m.

We were there in August with a group of four people. We have all never eaten such salty food in our lives. The starter “cheese platter” was subpar. Salted pretzels were sticky and the cheese cubes from the package were already sweaty. Our “cheese plate” is usually understood to mean something different. When asked whether one could just have fried potatoes with salad as a main course, the response was not very enthusiastic. The toilets were also dirty and off-putting. It's a real shame when the pride of restaurateurs is missing... especially in this beautiful location, right on the water.

Actually a location in a beautiful location, directly on the banks of the Moselle. The wine was quite okay. However, our meal, schnitzel with chanterelle sauce and Viennese style, didn't work at all. The schnitzel tasted like pieces of thinly pounded and breaded pork rind. The chanterelle was a limp paste, tasteless and cold. I lost my last hope with my fried potatoes with the chanterelle schnitzel. Actually you can't do anything wrong. Except the poor potato slices were probably drowned in hot fat and then fried to death. The fries with the Wiener Schnitzel suffered the same mistreatment. To top it all off, one of the waiters wrung out a snotty wiping cloth on the floor right next to our table as we walked past... unbelievable. Conclusion: There is something like self-flagellation about eating there. I classify this borderline experience as gastronomic comedy. But unfortunately they didn't deserve a second chance, nor did they deserve a tip. For something like that I'd rather go to the local chip shop for a much cheaper price. ... jinxed ...

We were turned away because we just wanted a bite to eat. We actually have to be grateful to the shop because there is a great wine cafe opposite the bridge. The witch seems to be just a tourist trick.

On Friday afternoon (in June '24) 4 people attempted to sit on the terrace to drink and eat. It had just rained. Upon arrival we were told by a very unfriendly waiter: we would rather not do anything. You dare to drink first in Keller and drink and drink for a while. Unbelievable! Of course we left thanks to the big bald waiter! Fortunately, the guests present could also hear what he said. Retake on September 3. We saw other chairs and 'new' staff walking around. So we had a few beers, wine, Aperol, Flammkuchen, etc. that was okay. Unfortunately, there was a grumpy gray waiter (with beard) walking around who ignored some service. He refused to bring me another beer, it wasn't 'his' table. 🥴Zum Hexenkeller is now the end for us...never again. Too bad about such a location.

You get a very friendly welcome there and the kitchen seems to be open longer than other pubs/restaurants in Cochem. The food was very good. We had a salad with chicken breast strips and a rump steak with chanterelles and fried potatoes. We sat outside and had a wonderful view of Cochem and the Moselle

Simply without words. I would like to give stars. Despite many free and unreserved tables, we were turned away. As some others have already written here. You can't just drink here, even at 30 degrees! Why there is wine in the name is absolutely incomprehensible!

The view of the Moselle was very beautiful. Unfortunately, the food wasn't particularly special and reflected the reviews of the others. (Sauce from the bag, tarte flambée with very little topping and 1 small slice of salmon (mind you it was the salmon tarte flambée). The staff was very nice, but did not pass on the special requests (fries instead of rösti) to the kitchen. We asked We received fries, which we had to pay for at the end.

Have been here several years now, the previous years were always excellent. However, this year we received a very unfriendly welcome. 1 waiter was very busy when guests came to eat, it took him too long to take the order and he was very pushy. The food itself had also deteriorated considerably. The bratkartoffeln that were so great before are now not even cooked. According to the staff, this could be due to the fact that the kitchen staff did not speak German. It also turned out afterwards that the bratkartoffeln had charged double. Unpleasant experience. Next time we won't go here.

What a particularly customer-unfriendly place this is. You will be warmly welcomed on the terrace for a drink. Another waiter comes to take your order and you are asked to leave, because you don't yet know whether you want food in addition to drinks. So as indicated at the beginning, you first want to order a drink with five people. Fortunately, we were very welcome at the neighbors 'Bistro am Hafen', whatever we ordered; and we could enjoy the view of Cochem and delicious drinks and dishes!

Don't understand bad service reviews, our waitress even brought a bowl of water to our table without us asking. I think tourists expect too much, the place is very busy so the service staff don't have a lot of time to appease the egos of needy people. Highly recommended!

I just wanted to drink one or two beers, but was sent away with the remark: "Only with food, boss needs sales." So if I need sales, I take everything with me, especially drinks. Why used to go there for a nightcap, that's probably over now!

Great food. Price performance is definitely right. Very, very friendly staff, very attentive and accommodating. It won't be the last time we'll be here when we end up in Cochem.

Inexperienced cook; Both minced steaks were already cut while frying. There was a fly in the chanterelle tagliatelle and the sauce wasn't tasty either. You really only pay for the beautiful view of the Moselle and the castle. In fairness the tagliatelle were cancelled.

The only good thing about this restaurant is the location, you have a very nice view of Cochem. That was what attracted us there too. We didn't have any hot food, just drinks and ice cream. The ice cream didn't taste good and then there was also the spray cream from the can, put together carelessly. Then it's better not to have ice cream on the menu.
