Wanlik-Hues in Sankt Peter-Ording

We ordered lamb and fish. The quality of the food didn't meet the expectations one would expect from a "specialty restaurant." We found the cash-only payment a bit odd.

Room for improvement! Unfortunately, the service was a complete letdown, and the cake was also disappointing. Payment is only possible inside, with a selected colleague.

Unfortunately, we only got this great tip from a local towards the end of our vacation. Aside from the unique ambiance: finally, some truly delicious fish (not deep-fried and not with a terrible coating, but deliciously fried ❤) with a fresh (!) side salad, wonderful! Unfortunately, we couldn't fit any more of the amazing, creative cake selection in, so we were more than happy to come back again. Absolutely fantastic!!! ❤❤❤

Don't be fooled by the beautiful building. The food was unfortunately mediocre, considering the price range. The fries were good, but the turkey steak wasn't cooked all the way through, and the fillet steak wasn't cooked at all. The vegetable side dish was very limited. A shame. Service was so-so... and no one came to pay. At almost €80 for two people, expectations are simply higher.

Ate pan-fried fish. It was the worst pan-fried fish I've ever had. It was nothing, bad, and way too expensive for what you get.

A tourist restaurant with the usual fish, meat, and other dishes. Nothing spectacular. Sitting outside under parasols and in beach chairs is quite pleasant, against the backdrop of historic Frisian architecture. Contrary to some other reviews, the service was beyond reproach. We were there off-season and well after lunch, but we still got hot food, which isn't exactly common in SPO. The food was okay, and the waitress was very friendly. You can definitely stop by and have a nice meal.

Four of us adults dined there. In addition to the exceptional warmth, we were particularly impressed by the quality of the food. Our conclusion: we'd happily return, whether it was fish, lamb, or another dish! Try one of the homemade cakes for dessert—it's a real treat!

A real eye-catcher from the outside: a thatched roof, beach chair flair, and the rustic charm of an old Frisian house, the Walnik Hues immediately makes you want to stop by for a cozy stop. Unfortunately, that was just our first impression. The restaurant advertises homemade cakes, and yes, they were homemade. However, neither the Frisian cake nor the nut cake were convincing in terms of taste. Furthermore, the nut cake was poorly prepared. The chocolate base was very cakey, and there was no taste of nuts. The crab soup was very greasy and gave me a stomachache. The seating is pleasantly quiet, and the slice of cake was generous at €4.90. The crema coffee from the machine, €3.50, was okay. The service seemed rather lackluster. Although the café was only moderately busy, we waited about 20 minutes before we could even order. Other guests were leaving, not a good sign. Afterward, even locals confirmed to us that Walnik Hues wasn't worth a visit, which unfortunately coincided with our impression. We won't be returning again.

Four of us dined here on two consecutive evenings and were absolutely thrilled. Lovely people and great food. Highly recommended.

I was invited to a birthday dinner last night. The waitress was so nice and attentive—the young man was great, and the food was also delicious! Not only was there a glass of champagne on the house, but everyone also got a cake! A lovely evening!

Oh dear. Thanks, that was it. The prices for the saddle of lamb (mutton!?) and the North Sea plaice would have been reasonable if the quality had been right. The saddle of lamb, which should have been medium, was tough and tasted very strong. The plaice tasted bland, and it wasn't seared well. The oil used should be changed immediately. Reading the other reviews, my own seems exaggerated. But no, today's review was completely unacceptable.

Unfortunately, the food was not acceptable – a real shame considering the waste of high-quality products! Staff was child-friendly, but the rest of the service was also rather poor (incorrect orders, no questions asked why half the food was returned, etc.)!

There were two of us for dinner. The crab soup was very good. The lamb loin was unfortunately only lukewarm, and the rosti (sausages) that came with it were probably frozen. The lamb fillet with noodles was a bit overcooked. Overall, the food was okay. The service, however, should have been a bit more attentive. No one came to ask if we wanted anything else or if we enjoyed our meal. When we went up to the front to say we wanted to pay, we were told at the front of the counter. For over €80 for two people, we wanted to pay by card. They were then told rather rudely, "No, only cash."

At the bakery, I can pay for my 90-cent roll with a card – but here I'm supposed to pay for a meal for two people worth 70 euros in cash only? And they ask for your understanding? Who carries that much cash these days? I got up and left.

We waited 15 minutes and hoped that someone would take our order, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Then we got up and left.😠😠

Hey, today I have to add my two cents 😉 It's been my wish to go there for many years. I regret it so much and won't give this restaurant another chance until the entire staff is replaced. Unfriendly, ignorant, dirty... simply disgusting. Knocked out.

We were very satisfied every time, very nice service.

We were there for coffee, the cake was delicious, but it's completely incomprehensible why they only accept cash these days. Card payments will still not be possible in 2025. Unfortunately, everything took a very long time, even though it wasn't particularly busy. But the service was friendly. We've decided to only go to shops in SPO that accept card payments.

The food was a delightful fusion of Syrian and German cuisine: The baked potato had parsley, watermelon, bulgur, and chickpeas. The lamb came with a chili pepper, watermelon, and three frozen hash browns. The broccoli seemed well prepared, but not warmed up enough. You could tell the chef had made an effort to make good food. But it seemed as if his menu was still a bit foreign to him. (Tables and banisters were a bit sticky.)

Dear Mr. Jaber, We regret to have had a negative experience at your restaurant today. We have the following points to criticize: The fried potatoes had no rusty flavor and probably only briefly saw the inside of the pan. The bacon and onions, along with the beans served with the leg of lamb, were not seared. To my disappointment, I found a strawberry with brown bruises on my plate. My companion's pan-fried fish was dry, and we also encountered the same fried potato problem as described above. Despite complaining and resolving the issue, it was not possible to apologize to me as a guest regarding the dessert or to accommodate my price. As guests, we started our lunch break very hungry and with high expectations. However, we left disappointed and with a residual appetite. We felt misunderstood as guests and had to pay the full bill. Unfortunately, a maximum of 1 star!

We had a round table for seven people, including our dog, in a cozy, rustic atmosphere. After we ordered our drinks, all the dishes arrived – saddle of lamb, a platter for two, Labskaus, steak, etc. Everything was nicely presented and delicious. For dessert, we had watermelon, strawberries, and grapes as a welcome gift from the kitchen. All in all, a well-rounded experience. The portions could have been a bit larger. And I'd rather skip the frozen rösti.

Oldest house in town, great ambience and good food

We were sitting outside at 1:30 p.m. and waited 25 minutes for service. Unfortunately, no service was in sight... We, along with other guests at the tables next to us, left! We would have loved to try the homemade cake.

Yes, very much so. We had a bottle of Lugana and a bottle of mineral water. Fresh fruit like bite-sized strawberries and melon slices were in the ice bucket. For dinner, we had two pan-fried fish dishes with North Sea crab and a delicious curry and mustard dressing. Our two dachshunds were also welcome. The lovely family from Lebanon was very warm and attentive. We'd be happy to come back.

We wanted to have lunch at Wanlik-Hues today. Despite sitting prominently near the entrance, we were ignored. Even after politely asking the staff, no one came to our table to take our order. Besides, there was nothing going on there; only we and one other table were occupied, and they arrived after us. We ended up having lunch at another restaurant. Therefore, zero stars for this location.

A very pleasant atmosphere in the oldest restaurant in St. Peter Ording. Very good service combined with very tasty and visually appealing food. The fillet tips with fried potatoes were cooked to perfection. Very, very tasty. The dry red wine served with it was very harmonious. Yes, it's not cheap, but it's absolutely worth it.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a photo of the plaice (tiny) with spinach and boiled potatoes. 2 small fish - you can find nicer fillets in the freezer at Aldi. A bit of spinach. And all this for €25.90. I was very disappointed. You're better off with a pizza. And the waitress had way too much perfume. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

Very nice service, although everything took a little longer (coffee and cake). Cake was ok, but nothing special. The ambience outside was great. The Aperol Spritz creation was interesting. All in all it was ok for us. You can do it.

Yes, the Dutch are simply unbeatable when it comes to design, lots of choice, we found a beautiful garden set straight away, ordered it and everything was very uncomplicated, easy and quick to park in front of the house with a cup of coffee....just go there and enjoy, oh yes, free delivery and an appointment, we were able to do it simply with our mobile phone

Nice at the beginning... after the food was there, hardly seen. For such a traditional German old house the evening was very disappointing. No recommendation!!

I was at Wanlik Hus and ordered the pan fish with mustard sauce. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the taste of the food: The fish was well fried but unfortunately very bland. The fried potatoes that came with it came in rough cubes, were fatty and hardly seasoned. There were still fairly al dente chunks of onion in the fried potatoes. Unfortunately, the mustard sauce was only the color of mustard but unfortunately no mustard taste. At 25.90 euros, the dish wasn't a bargain either. I won't come back.

It's a shame that such a traditional house was placed in such unprofessional hands. The beautiful ambience cannot hide this.

We ate there today for a special occasion, our wedding, and were really looking forward to delicious lamb. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The dining room was icy cold, so we had to put on our jackets after a short time. The lamb was ordered medium rare and arrived on the plate almost raw. After we complained, it took a while for the new food to arrive. My husband had finished eating by now. On the new plate there was now a completely bland tasting, well-done dry piece of lamb. Again not edible. The frozen rösti were the best part of the meal. However, for the price you can expect that these are homemade...Not recommended at all! Won't eat there again.

During our stays in SPO, we always enjoy eating at the Wanlik-Hues. Last week, the three of us went there for dinner. As always, it was a pleasure to enjoy an excellent meal in the rustic atmosphere and with the very friendly staff. Until next time, best wishes from Kassel.

We spontaneously went to dinner in a group with a dog and felt very comfortable. From the friendly welcome to the recommendation to share a starter for two to the delicious dishes, it was a very nice meal. The crab soup and the panfish are highly recommended. The only point of criticism was the chilli pepper on the main courses. These were very spicy, which is not to everyone's taste 🥵 For the girls there was Prosecco on tap, which is also recommended. The restaurant is the oldest house in Sankt Peter Ording and the decor is therefore appropriately rustic and cozy. Thank you for the lovely evening!

We originally wanted to have dinner at another restaurant, but it was closed. Luckily for us, we decided on this rustic, sweetly furnished restaurant in the oldest house in SPO. The service was very nice, courteous and attentive. All 3 dishes were so so delicious. What was particularly good was that actual lunch dishes could also be ordered in the evening. This is called flexibility and customer service, which many people can learn from. Would come here again at any time. Big praise

My friend and I ate at this restaurant yesterday but were unfortunately disappointed. While the building itself is very nice, the rest left a lot to be desired. The waitress didn't seem very motivated and it took a full 5 to 10 minutes before we received the menu - in most restaurants you get this as soon as you sit down. Visually, the food initially made a good impression, but the combination of ingredients was questionable - strawberries, raspberries and a chili on the plate? That just didn't fit. My friend had pasta with fish. While the fish was well fried and dry, but still tasted okay, the noodles were unfortunately inedible. My baked potato was acceptable, but definitely not worth the price of almost 15 euros - in other restaurants you can get something like this in better quality and at a cheaper price. What a shame! But at least we now know where we won't go out to eat again in St. Peter-Ording.

Cute little restaurant with all sorts of knick-knacks from the last century. Small rooms so it's very quiet while eating. Great service and the food was super tasty. Small drawback - only cash payment possible. However, I have experienced this more often in SPO.

Our interest in the restaurant was sparked by the oldest house in Sankt Peter-Ording. A look at the menu prompted us to book a table for the next evening. We were not only impressed by the rustic interior of the restaurant, but also by the very tasty food. The rack of lamb was prepared very creatively and freshly. We felt warmly welcomed and served courteously. We can highly recommend a visit.

The restaurant is a family business and everyone helps out, from the service to the kitchen, which we liked. The food came quickly, was rich and tasty. We had lunch in the very cozy restaurant in December '24. We were very satisfied with the friendliness and service. There were home-made fries that were very tasty and the fish was fried on the skin side until it was crispy. The restaurant offers various rooms for dining. Everything is very comfortably furnished. We can really recommend this restaurant! Parking lot at the entrance to the town.

Enjoyed a wonderful evening with my wife on New Year's Eve 2024. Although we had only inquired two days before and were supposed to inquire again on New Year's Eve, we received a beautiful table in one of the rustically furnished rooms. The familiar and friendly tone between the siblings of the operating family and the guests is very pleasant. Our food was excellent, as were the drinks. The fish, the lamb, we were very impressed. Nice conversations with the neighboring table provided information about life in SPO and one or two insider tips. We were completely satisfied and will come back! P.S. The family runs another catering business just a few meters away. We were guests here too and were pleased with the open manner in which we were treated.

My wife and I had dinner at Wanlik Hüs on Christmas Day, everything was wonderful. A very old house, rustically furnished and run by really nice people. We like to come back again and again, we felt very comfortable there. A very special compliment, see you soon, see you again.

We were at Wanlik-Hues yesterday afternoon, were greeted very friendly, were allowed to choose something from the lunch menu and were very happy with everything.♡ We had the farmer's breakfast and pollock with fries. The fries were extremely tasty, the side salad was very tasty. The toilets are upstairs in the beautiful old house, nice and very clean. The old house is really nice and homely furnished. There are 4 cozy guest rooms

The hospitality and charm of the old farmhouse are already worth a visit. However, the very good Lamhaxe has been drawing us to this beautiful and historic place for many years. The beef fillet carpaccio is also a clear recommendation. We'd love to come back.

Ordered a fish dish for the first time today. In my opinion, the salmon was no longer completely fresh. But the fault lies with me, I didn't complain about it immediately and thus took away the opportunity for service to make improvements. We always go here once during our stay because it's really great. Great ambience, nice service and the meat dishes were always great. Please ask Wanlik-Hues to pay attention to the freshness of fish dishes, even if it is not the peak season.

It's a shame, we've always eaten well here. Today, like my wife, I had the noble fish platter with salmon and wolffish. Everything was delicious except the salmon, which had already been over for a day. After visiting the restaurant, my wife told me that the salmon was no longer OK. What annoys me the most now and probably the restaurant too is that we didn't say anything. (But I thought maybe I just had a knot in my tongue. Sorry about that) But this shouldn't happen even if there are few guests and if the fish turnover isn't that high.

My love and I stumbled across this incredibly nice and cozy restaurant today by chance. This absolutely suited our taste, both visually and culinary-wise. It is the oldest house in SPO and that is how it is decorated. We felt like we were at home. We cannot understand negative reviews about the food in any way. No cuisine in the world can satisfy all tastes of all humanity. Just because a food tastes a little different than usual doesn't mean it's bad. We would like to thank you for the friendly and courteous hospitality. We'd love to come back!

Delicious food and a nice atmosphere

We were here with a larger group and had a great evening in our own rustic private room. From the outside, the Wanlik-Hues from 1656 looks like a house from a fantasy film. The furnishings are wildly thrown together, but it certainly has a certain charm. The waitress was nice and kept checking to see if we needed something to drink. The beer was at the right temperature and poured well. Unfortunately, the food didn't really convince me. I had the saddle of lamb, which was a bit bland. The frozen rösti and the plum sauce didn't really taste good either. The very hot chili tasted good, but rather irritated me with the dish. The mushrooms were dry and rock hard. What was really on point was the broccoli. I would go here again because of the rustic atmosphere and the nice overall experience.

Wanlik-Hues gets two stars from me. One for the historic house, which is worth seeing, and one for the cozy interior. But the house and ambience cannot save the catastrophic impression we got when we reserved our table. In the absolute off season - when there was NOTHING going on - we spontaneously wanted to reserve a table in person. The employee in charge made a face as if the question alone was an imposition. In response, we were given a business card from the house with the words: "Call." It was only with difficulty that the man agreed to reserve the table straight away, now that we were standing there. When we were happy to eat on that day, we realized that the service was more reminiscent of a quick-service restaurant than of a high-quality restaurant. The food was good but not exceptional. All in all, I have to say that we got the impression that there was no need for it in Wanlik-Hues...if one dissatisfied customer stays away, the next one will definitely come due to the good location. However, we definitely won't be coming back.

The oldest house in the village with beautiful furniture and an original ambience offers the real Frisian cake and a delicious toddler group with a light, pleasant spiciness. Plus a tasty, buttery minced lamb mince. A must in Saint Peter. Unfortunately only cash payment is accepted.
