We had dinner here on the terrace. I highly recommend the steak with Café de Paris sauce. The service was very attentive and friendly. Coincidentally, it was just the start of the Inter/Wall Festival, so we also had some great live music. A truly wonderful evening.

We had an excellent meal and a lovely sitting on the terrace by the canal.

I will start with the good things: The food is very good, the dekor is very nice and the location by the river in centrum very nice. Now to the bad things: From the beginning I did not feel we were welcome. I do feel maybe because we were not dress in a suit or something fancy like the rest of costumers. We are on vacation, so dressing casually is better. We were 4 adults and one child. The table where we were seated at was from the beginning for 4 person. We ordered a bootle of water still. They only came with 4 glasses. So I needed to call for one more. That’s even not the worst, they forgot to give the fifth person cutlery and a table “paper”. There was no time were the staff, asked if the food was ok… or we wanted dessert, this service level very low and bad bad bad. I could hear that the owners is twins brothers. So the hosting should be better, but it was like very cold. The price is high, but worth the food, but unfortunately the poor service give the experience dissatisfaction So if you are not suited up and want poor service … Don’t go to this place!

We visited this restaurant in October 2024, and I have to say, we all really enjoyed it. I still remember our waiter. He was really nice and not your average waiter. All in all, good food at a reasonable price in an exquisite, very good downtown location. Unlike many other restaurants, you can actually go here as a hamburger.

I had a very pleasant time, I had a divine lunch. I was able to take my time with my coffee. On the other hand, the welcome (if we can use that term) from the owner was not there at all. I felt tolerated but not welcomed. It doesn't make me want to come back, which is a shame.

We took a quick coffee break here with sorbet and cheesecake – excellent! Very pleasant atmosphere and attentive service. We'd be happy to return anytime.

I ordered the two-course menu here – it was delicious, generously portioned, and really good value for money. A glass of wine paired it perfectly. What particularly surprised me was that the service was exceptionally friendly and attentive, something you don't experience often in Germany! The location right on the canals is beautiful; you can sit outside with a view of the water. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant – great food, a lovely atmosphere, and memorable service. But the service was exceptionally and by far the best provided by a restaurant in Germany ever specially by waitress Lilo. We had a really lovely evening with family and friends! The location on the waterfront in the heart of the city is fantastic, everyone loved the food, and the service was excellent – ​​genuinely fun and relaxed. We'll definitely be back; it's also great for client meetings at lunchtime.

We were craving a good steak and stopped in spontaneously. We were lucky to get a table. The menu is pleasantly straightforward. The dishes on offer were outstanding in both quality and taste! The quality of the meat, in particular, impressed us more than at many other restaurants that claim to be among Hamburg's top steakhouses. This, coupled with the very attentive and friendly service, made for a completely successful evening. We highly recommend it!

Extremely unfriendly staff! No greeting, no asking if you'd like something to eat, nothing... What a shame for the kitchen team, who really conjured up a fantastic and consistently delicious meal. It's a real shame that they take their lack of joy in their work out on the guests. Even though the food was excellent, I wouldn't visit this restaurant again due to the unfriendly service – which had a significant impact on my visit. What a shame!

One of my favourites in Hamburg. I ve craved the beef tartare for a year, since I was here last summer, in 2024. It is one of my favourite. I must also mention sitting along the water is also very peaceful while enjoying a glass of wine

A straightforward bistro menu well executed with a couple of unusual additions like the wild broccoli with soy-wasabi reduction and sesame side which was a terrific complement to my steak frites.

A great location for a sophisticated business lunch. Very attentive and friendly service, even at the more secluded tables. On hot summer days, the terrace seating is a highlight, as it's shady and located directly on the canal, making it pleasantly cool.

I recommend it! Very good meats. We had the rib-eye steak for two with a French red wine (Côtes du Rhône - very good, but not exceptional) and truffle purées. We had lunch outside (beware of the wind, which quickly chills the dishes). The meat was perfectly rare and delicious, exceptionally tender. A wonderful experience with attentive service. The only downside: no bread offered!! The good French people in us were outraged :)

A very successful visit to Wallter's Bistro in Hamburg. The vegetarian tartare starter was flavorfully balanced and creatively presented. The main course – teriyaki salmon with asparagus, hollandaise sauce, and a side of potatoes – was cooked to perfection and harmoniously combined. The crème brûlée for dessert rounded off the meal nicely. The service was professional, attentive, and friendly. Overall, a clear recommendation.

Excellent food and very good service!

The restaurant is very well located in the center. The food was fabulous, we had the entrecote with truffle mashed potatoes, beef tartare, prawns and a mixed salad. All of the dishes listed were so delicious! We even took something to-go with us. Rather an expensive restaurant, but worth every euro. Would definitely come back when we are in Hamburg! Thank you for the warm hospitality.

I always enjoy coming to Wallters at lunchtime! Best lunch in the city center, prices are very fair, good quality and very friendly staff.

We arrived around 5:30 PM and were told we could sit anywhere when we asked for a table for three (two adults and one child). About 40 minutes later, after ordering a bottle of wine, the manager suddenly informed us that the table was reserved for someone at 6:30 PM and asked us to move. We switched to another table, but an hour later—after already ordering our food—the manager came back and told us that this table was also reserved. This should have been communicated to us earlier. We were in Hamburg on a business trip, simply looking to relax and enjoy a quiet evening with light food and wine. However, throughout our meal, the staff repeatedly pressured us to order more than ten times, which was frustrating. The overall dining experience was very disappointing, especially due to the behavior of the tall, skinny manager. Having to change tables twice within two and a half hours was extremely inconvenient. When my husband asked if there were any other available tables since we hadn’t finished our wine yet, the manager rudely replied, “No, we don’t! And you guys didn’t reserve a table for tonight, right?” Does this mean that if we had reserved a table, we could have sat there all evening without ordering anything? We spent around €100 for two adults—not the most expensive meal. Unfortunately, this place is not worth spending a penny. Even our 6-year-old son asked us, “Are they trying to rush us away?” If you’re looking for a nice spot to gather with friends or family, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I recently visited the restaurant and had a mixed experience. On one hand, the food was delicious and the service was effective. However, my evening was marred by a few issues. When we asked to move our table due to a reservation, the response from the manager was a curt, "I need this table at 8:00." I understand that there might be scheduling constraints, but it was disappointing that no alternative seating was offered, and the tone came off as lacking empathy. The overall vibe was mechanical. Additionally, the staff frequently checked on us, not out of genuine concern, but seemingly to encourage more orders. While I appreciate attentive service, it felt more like a sales tactic rather than authentic care for our dining experience. Factory style. Overall, while the quality of the food and efficiency of the service were commendable, a little more customer empathy and flexibility would go a long way in making the visit more enjoyable. The manager needs empathy skills training and to learn that non all non-German customers are tourists. We work and live in Hamburg. It was clear that he is under pressure to increase sales.

Great ambience, clear menu for quick decisions, starters (potato soup and beef tartare very fine) and the steak & fries as good as expected, very nice service but a bit uncoordinated despite the half-occupied tables in the early evening (drinks came after the starter and the extra truffle mayo during the advanced main course). This works more harmoniously with a 3-person table.

Absolutely lovely fine dining! Great service, nice ambience on the small Alster, wonderful truffle butter with bread as a welcome from the house, steaks perfectly fried to perfection, top side dishes. Any time!

My favorite dish here are the steak fries, which usually taste great. The meat is rarely tough, but the waiters correct this without discussion when asked. Good service, pleasant atmosphere. Great at lunchtime.

I have been able to visit Wallter's several times, both for lunch and in the evening. I was last there on November 23rd with a group of eight people. The food, especially the steak, is excellent. The same applies to the wine list and the ambience. The view is also great. The service was super attentive, courteous and friendly. The price is high but more than appropriate for the level offered.

Unfortunately, the rooms are very loud (no sound-absorbing interior), that's better today.

We really liked the friendly, competent advice and not too much was promised! Highly recommended! We'll be back.

Great restaurant, we were there for lunch or a business lunch. Great menu and, above all, changing lunch dishes. Very good value for money. It's a lovely place to sit by the water, there are places inside and outside. Very attentive service, absolutely recommended.

The service staff is very nice. However, the beers we got were never really on tap. Even when we pointed it out, they said that it would be passed on and that it was really not okay. But nothing changed with the following order (see pictures). Very sad for a local with aspirations.

As a vegetarian, I ordered a veggie burger and the bulette somehow tasted a bit sweet, but it was still quite easy to eat and actually tasty. You can sit well there. You have to pick up food from the kitchen and from the front.

I went to Walters Bistro with my wife for the first time. Although we just wanted to drink coffee/tea, the friendly staff immediately offered us a table. The chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and the cheese tart were to die for. The view of the Alster Canal is also priceless. The staff were very friendly and completely unobtrusive. We will definitely come back and then definitely for dinner.

A successful lunch break - a bit away from the classic tourist spots! Absolute recommendation!

The steak was phenomenal! But the beef tartare had a tiny bit sour flavor, which I know that the beef was possibly not fresh or sitting out for a while. This was a visit on June 14, Friday. We were there for whole afternoon and the service was not bad, they had changed shifts and I felt like the service wasn’t consistent but overall satisfactory. Aside from the beef tartare they had a sour taste, the rest was great! Great view and chill canal spot!

Very nice, very good restaurant with modern international cuisine at reasonable prices. Reservations recommended. Unfortunately, due to the architecture, it is quite loud when fully occupied.

Relaxation in the middle of the city

The location is right in the middle, but away from the hustle and bustle of Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall. The view of the water from the terrace quickly creates a relaxed Venice feeling, the service is very courteous and professional, questions are answered in a friendly manner and (not as is often the case in other restaurants in this area) not in a condescending manner. The food is impeccable and is within the usual range in this weight class. A big drawback with this pricing is that no baguette and butter are served in advance, but a bread basket has to be ordered separately for €4.50. The answer as to why this is the case was: “Because the VAT had to be raised again, we can no longer afford it.” The sad effect is that some visitors may not come back at all if they go to bistros for what is actually a given In this price range you have to pay extra.
