Wallter's in Hamburg

The restaurant is very well located in the center. The food was fabulous; we had the entrecôte with truffle mashed potatoes, beef tartare, shrimp, and a mixed salad. All of the dishes were delicious! We even bought some to-go. It's a rather expensive restaurant, but worth every euro. We would definitely come back when we're in Hamburg! Thank you for the warm hospitality.

I always enjoy coming to Wallters at lunchtime! Best lunch in the city center, prices are very fair, good quality and very friendly staff.

We arrived around 5:30 PM and were told we could sit anywhere when we asked for a table for three (two adults and one child). About 40 minutes later, after ordering a bottle of wine, the manager suddenly informed us that the table was reserved for someone at 6:30 PM and asked us to move. We switched to another table, but an hour later—after already ordering our food—the manager came back and told us that this table was also reserved. This should have been communicated to us earlier. We were in Hamburg on a business trip, simply looking to relax and enjoy a quiet evening with light food and wine. However, throughout our meal, the staff repeatedly pressured us to order more than ten times, which was frustrating. The overall dining experience was very disappointing, especially due to the behavior of the tall, skinny manager. Having to change tables twice within two and a half hours was extremely inconvenient. When my husband asked if there were any other available tables since we hadn’t finished our wine yet, the manager rudely replied, “No, we don’t! And you guys didn’t reserve a table for tonight, right?” Does this mean that if we had reserved a table, we could have sat there all evening without ordering anything? We spent around €100 for two adults—not the most expensive meal. Unfortunately, this place is not worth spending a penny. Even our 6-year-old son asked us, “Are they trying to rush us away?” If you’re looking for a nice spot to gather with friends or family, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I recently visited the restaurant and had a mixed experience. On one hand, the food was delicious and the service was effective. However, my evening was marred by a few issues. When we asked to move our table due to a reservation, the response from the manager was a curt, "I need this table at 8:00." I understand that there might be scheduling constraints, but it was disappointing that no alternative seating was offered, and the tone came off as lacking empathy. The overall vibe was mechanical. Additionally, the staff frequently checked on us, not out of genuine concern, but seemingly to encourage more orders. While I appreciate attentive service, it felt more like a sales tactic rather than authentic care for our dining experience. Factory style. Overall, while the quality of the food and efficiency of the service were commendable, a little more customer empathy and flexibility would go a long way in making the visit more enjoyable. The manager needs empathy skills training and to learn that non all non-German customers are tourists. We work and live in Hamburg. It was clear that he is under pressure to increase sales.

Great ambience, clear menu for quick decisions, starters (potato soup and beef tartare very fine) and the steak & fries as good as expected, very nice service but a bit uncoordinated despite the half-occupied tables in the early evening (drinks came after the starter and the extra truffle mayo during the advanced main course). This works more harmoniously with a 3-person table.

Homemade bread, delicious. Sandwich beef accompanied by a salad where I had the feeling I had tasted the whole spring, excellent. Was there by chance, gladly again

Absolutely lovely fine dining! Great service, nice ambience on the small Alster, wonderful truffle butter with bread as a welcome from the house, steaks perfectly fried to perfection, top side dishes. Any time!

My favorite dish here are the steak fries, which usually taste great. The meat is rarely tough, but the waiters correct this without discussion when asked. Good service, pleasant atmosphere. Great at lunchtime.

I have been able to visit Wallter's several times, both for lunch and in the evening. I was last there on November 23rd with a group of eight people. The food, especially the steak, is excellent. The same applies to the wine list and the ambience. The view is also great. The service was super attentive, courteous and friendly. The price is high but more than appropriate for the level offered.

Unfortunately, the rooms are very loud (no sound-absorbing interior), that's better today.

We really liked the friendly, competent advice and not too much was promised! Highly recommended! We'll be back.

Despite Hamburg's rainy season and peak time at 12:30 p.m., everyone in service remained friendly and on their toes. The quality of the meat was convincing, the rest was of a good standard. Gladly again.

Great restaurant, we were there for lunch or a business lunch. Great menu and, above all, changing lunch dishes. Very good value for money. It's a lovely place to sit by the water, there are places inside and outside. Very attentive service, absolutely recommended.

The service staff is very nice. However, the beers we got were never really on tap. Even when we pointed it out, they said that it would be passed on and that it was really not okay. But nothing changed with the following order (see pictures). Very sad for a local with aspirations.

Wallter's is an experience like few in Hamburg. The Tartare is unparalleled and the ambience makes every evening an experience.

As a vegetarian, I ordered a veggie burger and the bulette somehow tasted a bit sweet, but it was still quite easy to eat and actually tasty. You can sit well there. You have to pick up food from the kitchen and from the front.

I went to Walters Bistro with my wife for the first time. Although we just wanted to drink coffee/tea, the friendly staff immediately offered us a table. The chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and the cheese tart were to die for. The view of the Alster Canal is also priceless. The staff were very friendly and completely unobtrusive. We will definitely come back and then definitely for dinner.

A successful lunch break - a bit away from the classic tourist spots! Absolute recommendation!

The steak was phenomenal! But the beef tartare had a tiny bit sour flavor, which I know that the beef was possibly not fresh or sitting out for a while. This was a visit on June 14, Friday. We were there for whole afternoon and the service was not bad, they had changed shifts and I felt like the service wasn’t consistent but overall satisfactory. Aside from the beef tartare they had a sour taste, the rest was great! Great view and chill canal spot!

Very nice, very good restaurant with modern international cuisine at reasonable prices. Reservations recommended. Unfortunately, due to the architecture, it is quite loud when fully occupied.

Relaxation in the middle of the city

The location is right in the middle, but away from the hustle and bustle of Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall. The view of the water from the terrace quickly creates a relaxed Venice feeling, the service is very courteous and professional, questions are answered in a friendly manner and (not as is often the case in other restaurants in this area) not in a condescending manner. The food is impeccable and is within the usual range in this weight class. A big drawback with this pricing is that no baguette and butter are served in advance, but a bread basket has to be ordered separately for €4.50. The answer as to why this is the case was: “Because the VAT had to be raised again, we can no longer afford it.” The sad effect is that some visitors may not come back at all if they go to bistros for what is actually a given In this price range you have to pay extra.

Spectacular place to eat in Hamburg. The location and decoration of the site are exceptional, with a small terrace right on the river. Slightly more modern food with some well executed fusion dishes.

Visited this place last week for lunch. It is located at the river near the center of Hamburg. Staff was friendly however only 2 waiters were covering the whole place so everything took a bit of time. Food was OKAY, nothing special about it. Ordered my filet steak medium, got it rare but anyways.. prices are somehow reasonable, suitable for a business lunch.

Very tasteful shop, chic, modern and cool furnished. Right in the heart of HH you sit right by the water. Background music puts you in a good mood, I recommend the beef tartare with fries, the sauces are great, the fries are really crispy, the meat is in the top league and the sauces are amazing. Friendly staff, immediately gives you a feeling of being at home!

The ambience itself is nice and located by the water, unfortunately you sit very close together so it becomes uncomfortable. Service was great, the menu is modestly clear and for me there is little choice and the prices are high but the food tastes good.

Good location, good quality of food. Except we were served something we didn't order. Since this dish isn't on the menu, we were rather surprised to be told that we (the customer) had ordered wrong. No apology for the mistake - it doesn't work at all. Maybe next time the service person should write down the order...

Incredibly delicious food, attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere!

We, my sisters and I, were in Hamburg for the Caspar David Friedrich exhibition. We had dinner at Wallters and were greeted warmly by the service staff as soon as we entered the restaurant and shown to the table. Our coats were brought to the cloakroom by service. Beautiful modern room with large windows that offer a view of the Aussenalster. The service was attentive and pleasant. The selected starters and the main course were beautifully presented and also tasted very good. We had a good Riesling from the Nahe with our meal. The quiet, relaxed atmosphere was particularly pleasant, thank you very much!

In one word: PERFECT!!! We were there on Saturday and everything was perfect. So we're coming back to Hamburg in 2 weeks.

We were here for lunch two days ago. Reservation via open table was very easy and we were welcomed and served straight away. The service is really 1A! Our waiter was great and the food from the lunch menu came out very quickly, perfect for a lunch between appointments! The veal, bedded on fine mashed potatoes, was pure poetry, so tender and tasty and perfectly rounded off with pearl onions and sauce. A small espresso with vanilla ice cream afterwards and the rest of the day will be a success with so much culinary delight! The house lemonade with food is really refreshing and tastes surprisingly versatile with precise herbal notes. Not to mention the elegant and well-coordinated interior, all the senses are stimulated in such beautiful surroundings! A big bonus: we love the view of the water 🥰

Went here this evening by chance and I'm totally thrilled, the entrecôte is a dream of a steak. Very nice atmosphere! Four of us ate, each with a different dish. First I had the soup of the day, very tasty! Everyone was very happy, and I also think the location of the restaurant is great.
