Wallter's in Hamburg

A phenomenal steak with exceptional service, the Wallter's Bistro&Kontor not only ticked all the boxes but exceeded my expectations. My compliments to the chefs and the staff and I will definately visit again when I am back in Hamburg.

Great restaurant, we were there for lunch or a business lunch. Great menu and, above all, changing lunch dishes. Very good value for money. It's a lovely place to sit by the water, there are places inside and outside. Very attentive service, absolutely recommended.

The service staff is very nice. However, the beers we got were never really on tap. Even when we pointed it out, they said that it would be passed on and that it was really not okay. But nothing changed with the following order (see pictures). Very sad for a local with aspirations.

Wallter's is an experience like few in Hamburg. The Tartare is unparalleled and the ambience makes every evening an experience.

As a vegetarian, I ordered a veggie burger and the bulette somehow tasted a bit sweet, but it was still quite easy to eat and actually tasty. You can sit well there. You have to pick up food from the kitchen and from the front.

I went to Walters Bistro with my wife for the first time. Although we just wanted to drink coffee/tea, the friendly staff immediately offered us a table. The chocolate tart with vanilla ice cream and the cheese tart were to die for. The view of the Alster Canal is also priceless. The staff were very friendly and completely unobtrusive. We will definitely come back and then definitely for dinner.

A successful lunch break - a bit away from the classic tourist spots! Absolute recommendation!

The steak was phenomenal! But the beef tartare had a tiny bit sour flavor, which I know that the beef was possibly not fresh or sitting out for a while. This was a visit on June 14, Friday. We were there for whole afternoon and the service was not bad, they had changed shifts and I felt like the service wasn’t consistent but overall satisfactory. Aside from the beef tartare they had a sour taste, the rest was great! Great view and chill canal spot!

Very nice, very good restaurant with modern international cuisine at reasonable prices. Reservations recommended. Unfortunately, due to the architecture, it is quite loud when fully occupied.

Relaxation in the middle of the city

The location is right in the middle, but away from the hustle and bustle of Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall. The view of the water from the terrace quickly creates a relaxed Venice feeling, the service is very courteous and professional, questions are answered in a friendly manner and (not as is often the case in other restaurants in this area) not in a condescending manner. The food is impeccable and is within the usual range in this weight class. A big drawback with this pricing is that no baguette and butter are served in advance, but a bread basket has to be ordered separately for €4.50. The answer as to why this is the case was: “Because the VAT had to be raised again, we can no longer afford it.” The sad effect is that some visitors may not come back at all if they go to bistros for what is actually a given In this price range you have to pay extra.

Visited this place last week for lunch. It is located at the river near the center of Hamburg. Staff was friendly however only 2 waiters were covering the whole place so everything took a bit of time. Food was OKAY, nothing special about it. Ordered my filet steak medium, got it rare but anyways.. prices are somehow reasonable, suitable for a business lunch.

Overpriced, do not recommend this place, steaks could be better and juicier.

Very tasteful shop, chic, modern and cool furnished. Right in the heart of HH you sit right by the water. Background music puts you in a good mood, I recommend the beef tartare with fries, the sauces are great, the fries are really crispy, the meat is in the top league and the sauces are amazing. Friendly staff, immediately gives you a feeling of being at home!

Best fillet steak in a long time. You would otherwise pay at least twice as much for something similar in Hamburg - and the hosts are unbeatably nice.

The ambience itself is nice and located by the water, unfortunately you sit very close together so it becomes uncomfortable. Service was great, the menu is modestly clear and for me there is little choice and the prices are high but the food tastes good.

Good location, good quality of food. Except we were served something we didn't order. Since this dish isn't on the menu, we were rather surprised to be told that we (the customer) had ordered wrong. No apology for the mistake - it doesn't work at all. Maybe next time the service person should write down the order...

Incredibly delicious food, attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere!

We, my sisters and I, were in Hamburg for the Caspar David Friedrich exhibition. We had dinner at Wallters and were greeted warmly by the service staff as soon as we entered the restaurant and shown to the table. Our coats were brought to the cloakroom by service. Beautiful modern room with large windows that offer a view of the Aussenalster. The service was attentive and pleasant. The selected starters and the main course were beautifully presented and also tasted very good. We had a good Riesling from the Nahe with our meal. The quiet, relaxed atmosphere was particularly pleasant, thank you very much!

Great service and ambience everything authentic here

We were here for lunch two days ago. Reservation via open table was very easy and we were welcomed and served straight away. The service is really 1A! Our waiter was great and the food from the lunch menu came out very quickly, perfect for a lunch between appointments! The veal, bedded on fine mashed potatoes, was pure poetry, so tender and tasty and perfectly rounded off with pearl onions and sauce. A small espresso with vanilla ice cream afterwards and the rest of the day will be a success with so much culinary delight! The house lemonade with food is really refreshing and tastes surprisingly versatile with precise herbal notes. Not to mention the elegant and well-coordinated interior, all the senses are stimulated in such beautiful surroundings! A big bonus: we love the view of the water 🥰

Went here this evening by chance and I'm totally thrilled, the entrecôte is a dream of a steak. I haven't eaten anything better for a long time and I'll say here in all modesty that I really get around a lot - every gram is worth its price! The service is attentive, friendly, unobtrusive and simply good. Thank you for the successful evening!

Very nice atmosphere! Four of us ate, each with a different dish. First I had the soup of the day, very tasty! Everyone was very happy, and I also think the location of the restaurant is great. In terms of price it's a different number, but for this quality of service and food it's completely legitimate. We'll be back, it was a lovely evening. Thanks!

I was in the restaurant for the third time, the atmosphere is nice, great view of the canal to the side, good seating comfort, not too many tables, so there is space for relaxed conversations, including business. The menu is varied and well put together, there is also a lunch menu with soup and a main course. Portions are good too. Negative aspects: The prices are very high, 12 euros for a soup of the day, 25 euros for one or two starters, is completely exaggerated, even if the quality is good, but not outstanding. These are relatively easy dishes to prepare. The service is nice so far, the reception is poor, even normal service staff are allowed to say hello and not leave you standing stupidly in the door until the receptionist has finished with his iPad at some point. The service after ordering is also poor, as the prices require a lot more inquiring as to whether everything is ok or if there is anything else you would like. I could only order the bill by actively going to the counter. So: if the company pays and the customers are ok, privately the price is too high in relation to the actually good quality of the food

Last week I went to Wallters twice, which I didn't even know about until then. On our first visit we were literally sitting against the wall. I chose the tartare with fries, my friend the sea bream fillet. We stuck to water and a lemonade, and for dessert we had espresso with vanilla ice cream. On the second visit we sat at the window with a view of the lock. It was visibly cooler there because of the cold wall. I wouldn't sit there again, even though the place is nice. I had the mussels and my husband had the fillet. Papadam was brought to us as an alternative to bread. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The portion sizes are okay, but you should choose an appetizer if you are hungry. The sauces are charged an extra €3.50, we only saw that on the bill and we were a bit surprised. The map is clear and good, nothing more is needed. The service is impeccable and very attentive. The furnishings and lighting design are very beautiful and perfectly coordinated. The floor tiles are a dream. The toilets are also very nice and clean. A pleasant place in downtown Hamburg that I would recommend at any time.

Das Essen an sich war ordentlich, wenn auch nicht herausragend. Leider war der Service recht unfreundlich und sehr unaufmerksam - z.B. saßen wir eine Viertelstunde vor leeren Tellern, ehe diese abgeräumt wurden, und das, obwohl das Restaurant zu diesem Zeitpunkt schon recht leer war. Für ein Restaurant in der Preisklasse ein Unding.

Wir besuchten das Wallter’s mit vier Personen. Das Essen war sehr gut, die Preise eher hoch & der Service dafür leider mehr als ausbaufähig. Unsere leeren Teller wurden erst nach ca. 10 Min abgeräumt und keiner fragte ob wir noch etwas bestellen möchten. Unsere Gläser blieben leer. Wir haben uns dann noch für ein anderes Lokal entschieden, in welchem wir anschließend noch einen Wein bestellen konnten. Der anwesende Chef machte zudem einen unfreundlichen Eindruck auf uns…wir werden das Wallter‘s nicht noch einmal besuchen.

Tolles Restaurant mit tollem Ambiente - rustikal an den wenden schick in der Einrichtung! Essen war sehr lecker, meine bessere Hälfte liebt englisch gebraten, perfekt auf den Punkt 🙌 Meines Medium ebenso klasse, eigentlich esse ich fürs Leben gerne Café de Paris Soße. Das Fleisch war allerdings so gut dass die Soße ausschließlich für die Pommes genommen wurde 😅 Vorweg gab es Tatar, sehr lecker. Durch und durch wirklich TOP! Service sehr nett und zuvorkommen. Preise völlig legitim und dem was man bekommt angemessen. Wirklich zu empfehlen, Danke - gerne 👏

Weltklasse, außergewöhnlich, unbeschreiblich,... Jeder, der etwas von Essen und Fleisch versteht, aber auch jene, die das nicht tun und einfach nur genießen wollen, sind hier absolut richtig. Werde wieder kommen...und damit bin ich mir sicher mit vielen einig...

Super zentral lokalisiert, sehr schönes Ambiente, aufmerksames Personal, sehr flott und immer mit einem Lächeln. Qualität der angebotenen Speisen excellent. Preise sind oberstes Niveau, aber es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

I can recommend the place. It looks fancy, with gorgeous windows and the view on the river. I expected place to be overpriced (taking location and design into account), but prices were actually fair. Food: I’ve been there with a big group, so we tried many things. The absolute winner was steak tartare. Honestly, it was the best in my life. Unfortunately, can’t say the same about the steak, which was just 3 stars out of 5 in my opinion. Crème brûlée was good, with a nice texture and sweetness level. Wine card was pretty big, there are lots of options to choose from.

Hab hier paar mal zu Mittag gegessen. Die Steaks schmecken ganz gut, geht zwar besser aber für schnell Steak essen zwischendurch perfekt! Das Personal ist sehr höflich und professionell. Der Ausblick auf einen Kanal der Alster auch nicht schlecht. Besonders die hohen Decken haben mir sehr gefallen.

Best Steak in town! Unfassbar gute Qualität und Zubereitung. Mein Favorit!

Das Steakhouse war ein echtes kulinarisches Erlebnis! Vom ersten Bissen bis zum letzten war das Steak perfekt zubereitet und unglaublich saftig. Die Auswahl an Fleischsorten und Beilagen war beeindruckend, und der Service war erstklassig. Die gemütliche Atmosphäre und das freundliche Personal trugen dazu bei, dass unser Abend unvergesslich wurde. Wir werden definitiv wiederkommen, um mehr von diesen köstlichen Steaks zu genießen!

Das Essen war köstlich. Unser Fleisch war sehr aromatisch, auf dem Punkt gegart. Der Service sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Da kommen wir gerne wieder.

Sehr schönes Lokal, sehr schön am Kanal gelegen. Wir waren mit 6 Personen dort, 3 Erwachsene, 3 Kinder. Wir haben vorher telefonisch reserviert. Beim Eintreffen sind wir sehr freundlich empfangen worden. Der Service war während unserem gesamten Besuch sehr freundlich, locker und zuvorkommend, einfach super, wir haben uns wohl gefühlt. Das Essen war sehr gut, alle, auch die Kinder, waren begeistert und sehr zufrieden. Für unsere kleinsten konnten wir auf Nachfragen sogar Nudeln mit Tomatensoße bestellen obwohl dies nicht auf der Karte stand. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis passt hier aufjedenfall.

Absolut zu empfehlen! Wir hatten einen fantastischen Abend bei super Essen, genialen Weinen und bestem Service! Hier packt der Chef noch selber an. Wir kommen wieder!!!

Sehr lecker, den Service muss man manchmal "zu nehmen wissen", aber sie meinen es im Zweifel gut ;) Auf die Frage nach einem Tisch draußen, kam: " Haben Sie draußen einen gesehen?"... ;)

Heute dort im Schatten das Mittags Menü genossen. Sehr lecker und auch ein bißchen edel. Hat uns viel Spass gemacht, wir haben es genossen.

Am Freitag Nachmittag konnten wir das nette Lokal beinah allein genießen. Das essen war köstlich. Allerdings hätte ich mir etwas mehr Beilage gewünscht, zumal wir kein Brot essen. Das Fleisch ist wundervoll, die vegetarischen Gerichte scheinen daneben - aber auch ansonsten - gar nicht sehr attraktiv. Der Service war sehr nett und hilfreich.

Ein wunderschöner Platz um im Sommer den Tag bei köstlichem Essen ausklingen zu lassen. Wir hatten als Vorspeise den Pulpo - ein Gedicht. Mein Risotto mit Dorado war hervorragend und das Entrecôte auf den Punkt gebraten. Dazu noch ein sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service - was will man mehr.
