Delicious, solid food with nice service. I just think the ambience is great

We ate here with the family on a Saturday. I ordered pork medallions, which cost €19.90 according to the menu. When the plate came, I thought I had ordered a children's portion, there were actually only 3 medallions in total and one of them was only about 3 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm high (by eye) and a small portion of fries, you would have had to buy majo with it... the plate was only about 30cm x 20cm in size, so not exactly the largest... well, very questionable for the price, I don't actually want to mention the salad, it was already there brown and old, the dressing was just watery and didn't taste good at all. My partner was supposed to get fried potatoes, but instead she just got some soggy fried potato slices that just didn't taste like anything at all... just a disgrace in my opinion. Ps: unfortunately there is only PEPSI and no real cola, that showed me at the beginning that something could be wrong. But well now we are smarter and know that we won't come back again because it's too loud, too expensive and the quality is terrible!!!

Between all the modern sushi and kebab shops, I was happy to have found an old-established restaurant with German cuisine. There was a lot to choose from goulash and roulades, schnitzel or even salads and soup. And a quaint restaurant that will hopefully stay around for a long time.

A consistently great experience—a wide selection of different dishes. For me, the pork knuckle has been a must-have for years. The ambiance and service are fantastic. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Nice kind of corner pub and restaurant. The ambience is a lot of wood, which is why it leaves more of a pub impression. The service is super attentive, fast and friendly and contributed a lot to the feel-good factor in the evening. The dishes are large and ok, but could be better. As an example, the rump steak literally drowned in the pepper sauce, which was a shame. The price is ok, just in the city center area. All in all we can recommend it.

Packed on a Wednesday evening. Book if you want to be sure to get a table. Food: it‘s regional plus a few international alternatives like burgers. The knuckle of pork is soft and boiled, not crispy like in south Germany and that is the way it should be here. The side salads are part fresh and part from a jar like the beans. Again, typical for the area. Saute potatoes are cooked in oil and butter, not deep fried like McDonald chips. Please understand that this is regional food how it‘s been done for decades and not an attempt at Michelin classed meals. Always been happy there on various trips enjoying the food I grew up with. If you are from a different country and expect the food to be like where you come from, don‘t go there. If you want to try local food and are open to different tastes it‘s a good place to go.

Cozy inn with friendly service. Unfortunately, the food didn't meet our expectations of "good middle class". Meat dishes were cold, over-fried on the sides and some ingredients looked very much like convention food. Nice for a simple, cozy evening with a beer, but for food there are much better places.

A very nice, rustic inn with history! The service was very nice, the food was home-style and very tasty, and the price was absolutely right. For me it's definitely a gem in the city center of Wuppertal! Of course it's not a 3 star meal, but I don't expect it to be. It was tasty nonetheless. If you come in the evening, you should make a reservation, we were there in the afternoon and were able to choose a place.

Cozy restaurant near the main train station. The menu leaves nothing to be desired. The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. If, like us, you get hungry after a long day of excursions in Wupperal, this is definitely the right place for you.

The service was very friendly and accommodating and quick. The ambience and facilities are very nice. The schnitzel we ordered was very fatty and probably prepared in the deep fryer. The whole meal tasted very neutral.

Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere.

I can't explain the current 4.5 points in the rating because the main service of a restaurant - food - is not true at all. We ordered steak with pepper sauce twice - once well-done, the other was not asked for. Both came medium rare. Ok for me, not ok for the one who wanted well-done. So, another long wait - first for the staff, then - for the steak. Now about the steak. Angus beef is advertised on the menu. The thickened onion sauce with a few peppercorns overwhelms the taste of the meat. It's bland and stuffy. Second steak was returned. You can benefit from a concession in the form of half the price for the second meal. The staff seemed tired and not very motivated. My conclusion - insufficient quality for comparatively a lot of money.

A very nice, small restaurant with small flaws. You can enjoy good home-style cuisine here, although the fried potatoes were a bit too greasy and some were already fried hearty (black). Otherwise the food was good. The service was also good after a short "thawing time", the waitress was attentive. From what I saw, this location is a good place to sit down for a card evening with friends or a meeting with work colleagues. For a romantic dinner it's a bit too rustic and has too much "pub character" (although it's always what you make of it ;) ). I probably won't go back, but overall it's recommended.

My Florentine steak was ok, nothing more but nothing less either. My wife's meal was really embarrassing! The potatoes were estimated to be at least 1 1/2 days old and dry. That something like this is even brought to the table. We complained and we were allowed to choose fries or fried potatoes. The fried potatoes that were then served were swimming in fat. We waited in vain for an apology, paid and won't be coming back! It's a shame that I've been really happy for several years. It used to be really good 🙁

Very nice old historic restaurant in the heart of Wuppertal. I enjoyed it very much, the service was friendly, it matched the house and the ambience was simply lovely. Doesn't always have to be modern. Interesting audience and you just felt comfortable.

It was a pleasant evening, the staff was super friendly and attentive. The schnitzel was good, unfortunately a bit greasy, and the fried potatoes were almost cold, but the salad was good. Price and performance is ok, you can go there again.

Authentic and cozy rustic inn. Here you can feel the history in every corner. Friendly and fast service. Food good and with fair prices. Garnish on the plate wasn't entirely fresh, but because of the nice atmosphere it got 5 stars.

We were there today. The food was great. We really like going there, it's cozy, the whole atmosphere is reminiscent of good home-style cooking, and the owners and staff are perfect for me.

Had a very nice evening. What is particularly noteworthy is that there is a high-quality vegan schnitzel alternative. Not a vegetable schnitzel or anything similar but one made from wheat protein. That was really tasty with the pepper sauce! Unfortunately the bruschetta wasn't that great, it should have been crispier and a little less onions and more tomatoes would have been perfect. The service was super nice and accommodating.

The second visit to this traditional house calls for 6-10 stars! There is no denying that the cuisine is excellent; the Bergisch country beer is simply delicious with or without alcohol. The service cannot be topped in terms of friendliness, even the dog was pampered again. For dessert (it's amazing that something else fit in!) there was tartufo, a worthy end to a super nice evening in a rustic atmosphere. The first visit here was a bit bumpy, with "only" 4 stars, but this time not only the 5th is well deserved! So from me privately, ***** on top of that! I'd love to come back the next time I'm back in my old homeland from East Frisia.

A restaurant with friendly staff, a rustic atmosphere and good beer. Unfortunately, the meal I ordered, fried meatloaf with fried eggs and fried potatoes, didn't convince me. The Leberkäs was far too bland and the fried potatoes could have used a little more seasoning and were a bit dry for my taste.

In a word: great. Authentic German cuisine. Lots of meat and game. Had a delicious "Pfefferhirsch" stew, with a great "Apple Strudel" for dessert. I can highly recommend this restaurant, although it is not large.

The handle of the soup cup was dirty, there was still a slice of lemon left by the previous guests next to the cruet. Ambience quite rustic. But then the criticisms were made up for by very friendly, dog-friendly service and very tasty food. Paid parking within walking distance.

Good middle-class, honest and cozy. Kölsch 2 €!! The menu is meat-heavy, but there are also veggie dishes. Anyone who likes schnitzel, roast meat, savoy cabbage, side salad and sauerkraut... will feel good.

We had to get up and leave...we ate something out of hunger...how disgusting I had my whole plate full of oil...the potatoes were sour and fried in smelly oil and when we complained the waitress made an annoyed face. ..and she left without even apologizing...my meat looked like it was fried in oil and it was raw inside...I can't say more than that

We recently had dinner at Wagner am Mäuerchen. I read the reviews beforehand and therefore reserved a table there. The atmosphere is rustic. The restaurant is rather small and manageable. Be sure to reserve a table if you want to be sure of getting a seat. Well, I was a bit torn about eating. I had a schnitzel with fried potatoes. Unfortunately, some of it was very fibrous and the fried potatoes weren't that great. Unfortunately, the food didn't really convince me. The fries were good, as was the side salad. Our conclusion: we wouldn't go to Wagner am Mäuerchen again because of the schnitzel. In our opinion it is perfect for a social evening. Especially if you are already in town (e.g. shopping).

If you are in the inner city of Wuppertal, or more precisely in Elberfeld, this restaurant is highly recommended. Unfortunately, we don't have enough of such well-kept Bergisch restaurants.

Absolutely delicious food in a restaurant that also looks the part. They have one English menu but you know somewhere is good if its full of locals. Really friendly staff and the food came up quickly. Loads to choose from on the menu. We wanted traditional German and thats what we got. Only downside is the salad could have been fresher. Great location close to the river but not too busy.

Unfortunately very disappointing. Saturday evening, it really wasn't very full, we were assigned a table, unfortunately without menu cards. After 15 minutes of waiting we finally saw the waiter again, no cards with him so I asked and he would bring them straight away. It took a total of 25 minutes for the menu to arrive. Instead of waiting briefly and asking what we would like to drink, the over-the-top waiter ran away. At that time other guests also came, they got a card and drank in front of us.... In the meantime we had been in the restaurant for 40 minutes, which was still not very full, we seriously got our small salad before drinks were even brought. The food came very surprisingly very quickly, at least the drinks were included. And the amount of portions almost made us fall out of our chairs, for 18€ 1 dish and we got a ridiculous 4 small croquettes, according to reviews it said decent portions, slightly pissed off I walked straight through the restaurant and looked at everyone else's plates and 90 % had chosen the most fried potatoes, no wonder the portion was twice as much. So I asked Keller about it, according to him it was a standard portion, but if we were dissatisfied he would bring 2-3 more pieces, and they came very quickly. And at the end on the bill we were charged €3 for 2 croquettes, the cellar didn't want to get involved in a discussion, sorry, but they definitely weren't home-made, super organic croquettes and they didn't point out to us that it cost more, according to the menu Nothing about that, so there is this review. It's incomprehensible to me that it's cheap to buy so we end up selling it, we won't be coming back.

After entering I immediately felt at home. Good regional cuisine and a Füchschen Alt beer, that's all a person needs.

You can eat quite well here, typical of a brewery, in the appropriate atmosphere. The beer is from the Düsseldorf brewery “Zum Füchschen”, a very pleasantly balanced taste, well hopped, great color. Just as a top-fermented Altbier should be!

Nach dem Besuch des Von der Heyden Museums sind wir hier eingekhrt und haben genau das gefunden, was wir gesucht haben. Ein gediegenes und gepflegtes Resaurant, eine gute Auswahl an gutbürgerlichen Gerichten und ein sehr nettes und freundliches Personal. Das Essen entsprach unseren Erwartungen hinsichtlich Qualität und Preis. Empfehenswert für alle die nicht auf Döner, Pizza, Gyros oder Hamburger Appetit haben, sondern etwas essen wollen.

We had reserved a table for 4 adults a few weeks in advance. When we arrived at the restaurant, we discovered that the table in a seating area was far too small and completely unsuitable. We asked to get a larger table, which worked. Every table inside had a reserved sign. While we had to wait around 45 minutes for our food, we were loudly entertained by a crowd of men who were loudly entertaining the entire restaurant. I would have liked the support of the innkeeper to keep the noise down a bit. Finally three out of four plates arrived. They must have forgotten one or something. At some point the overwhelmed waitresses realized that there should be food for everyone at the table... Unfortunately we also had to complain about the 🍴 cutlery because it was dirty. The waitresses had so much to do with the tables outside that they were completely annoyed and overwhelmed. The waitresses constantly walked past our table, but didn't notice that our glasses were constantly empty. I found the quantity and quality to be inadequate. I had a “Kurfürsten Schnitzel”. Schnitzel average size, well fried, no molded meat. Sauce rather thin, not very seasoned, Champions from the can and also a little sauce😕 Fries in a mini frying basket where you don't really know where to put the thing after you put the fries on your plate. I also found the portion of fries to be rather small 🫤 The plates aren't the biggest, so with the food they appear much larger than they really are. My summary: Food: simple Ambiance: rustic and authentic Service: between nice and haphazard Price performance: rather average To give 5 stars here

I can't confirm the bad reviews. The food was tasty and a good portion. It was also served hot. The waitresses were attentive and very friendly. Dogs are welcome and receive a water bowl. It was quite well attended for the time. Small note: the toilets are quite narrow and not wheelchair accessible.

Avoid this place. We sat waiting for 45 min until we finally got serviced. Then it took another 15 min to get our drinks. The waiters simply ignore you. They rather take a beer themselves instead of serving their customers.

The place is totally empty for two days in a row. Yet they claim that everything is reserved. It looks like that they just don't serve tourists. They ignore you when you sit on their empy terrace. Avoid this place!

It is a rustic pub with traditional cuisine. There were 5 of us (including a toddler) and we ate in the “beer garden” (a few tables in front of the door). It's very quiet because it's not directly on the pedestrian zone. But not far away either. We all enjoyed the food very much. But I would like to give special praise to the service. Very friendly and very attentive. The price-performance ratio is also right here. You still get a lot of food on your plate. 😉 Thank you for food and drink.

I had a beautiful Zigeuner Schnitzel, it wad just like I remembered, 30 years ago when I was stationed in Germany. My son had a med-rare pepper steak both served with a nice red cabbage coleslaw.

The quality and portion size didn't blow me away, but the service was friendly.

Zum ersten Mal hier gewesen. Sehr schönes rustikales Ambiente, gemütliche Sitzecken und bergische Tradition wird hier gepflegt. Gute Bierauswahl von Pils, Kölsch, Lanbier und mehr, vieles vom Faß frisch gezapft. Die Speisekarte bietet reichlich Auswahl in allen Kategorien, auch mit bergischen Spezialitäten und ergänzend eine Tages- bzw. Saisonkarte. Das alles in gutem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Das Personal war aufmerksam und freundlich, das Essen hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt. Ich werde gern wiederkommen. Tischreservierung ist allerdings zu empfehlen. Mit Bus, Bahn und Schwebebahn sehr schnell erreichbar.

First time visiting, but was very impressed. Authentic German pub with traditional local menu. Great Weiss beer, and a blood sausage starter platter. Ordered the Nuremberg sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potato as a main which was delicious. Recommend this restaurant for an authentic German beer and food, very friendly staff and great service and value for money.

Changing the potato side dish from fried to baked potato costs over four euros. We weren't made aware of this so it was very annoying. That food tasted good.
