Wagner am Mäuerchen is an absolute highlight in Wuppertal! I've been to this restaurant several times and have been impressed every time. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic, with wood-paneled walls and dim lighting. The service is friendly and attentive, and the waitresses always strive to please. The menu is varied and offers something for every taste. I tried the schnitzel, and it was simply perfect—crispy and juicy at the same time. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. What impressed me most, however, is the attention to detail and the passion with which the staff work. It's obvious that they care about the quality of the food and the satisfaction of their guests. I highly recommend Wagner am Mäuerchen if you're looking for a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere. Great German restaurant in the center of Wuppertal. The menu is varied, the beer is excellent, the atmosphere is unique, just a nice quiet place to hang out with friends. The landlady speaks several languages, including a little Polish. Although the area is very multicultural, there were only Germans here.

Really cozy. Inside and out. Large selection of very good beers. The staff were a bit older, but very friendly and quick. I had a farmer's schnitzel. I've rarely had such a good piece of meat. The fried potatoes were delicious, and the pickled gherkins were too, although unusual at first. It's beautifully rustic, but very clean. We had a very nice evening, thanks in part to the friendly staff.

For the Florentine steak, they could have provided the Dutch oven from a separate saucer, or added to the description that the sauce is made with the spinach. The rump steak was cooked to perfection, as was the garlic sauce. Although the sauce should have been served separately. The rösti were crispy and not too greasy. The aspic was okay. The fried potatoes were partially burnt and greasy. The dishes were perfectly matched to the dishes, keep it up. Only the salad garnish is so 80s and costs the host unnecessary money. This is high-level criticism and doesn't detract from the chef's taste or work; he does a good job. _________________________________________ Service The middle-aged waitress was friendly and tried to do her job well. The waitress with the colorful hair was a bit gruff, without a smile on her face. The male colleague with a beard seemed overwhelmed. Also, people were smoking more than working... If you tip and don't thank them, I find that rude. The bill wasn't correct, even though it was in our favor (€17), which shouldn't happen. At least the middle-aged waitress thanked us. Despite one or two criticisms, I can recommend the restaurant. We will be back.

The atmosphere is typical of a brewery, a bit loud but nice. The food came quickly, but unfortunately the fries were extremely overcooked and hard. Everyone else was happy with their food, though I probably would have preferred the fried potatoes.

A beautifully centrally located, long-established restaurant. We were treated to a small lunch snack. The food (tomato soup and herring) was very fresh and delicious. Two friendly waitresses were also there. We highly recommend a visit.

Great food for a reasonable price.

Following a recommendation, we visited this restaurant on August 9, 2025. We ordered food with great anticipation. Unfortunately, we were disappointed when the food arrived. The salad wasn't seasoned, it had a drop of dressing, and it tasted dry and not fresh. The schnitzel was good, but there were only four pieces. We had the loin, which was dry and hard, and almost impossible to cut. The pork knuckle was also pale, not well seasoned, and everything was very poorly done. Overall, we have to say that the price-performance ratio is not right. For this price, you should expect fresh and delicious food. It's a shame, but we can't recommend it!

Unfortunately, the food there was very bad. The portions were far too small, the meat very dry, and the service downright unfriendly. When we complained to the staff, the waitress said in such an unfriendly tone that she couldn't change the fact that the meat was dry and hard because they had bought bad meat. But the other portions my friends had were also a disaster. The food was barely seasoned, if at all, and cold to boot. I really don't imagine good German cuisine to be like that. Many snack bars in Elberfeld serve much better food. I therefore really cannot recommend this restaurant. Go somewhere else where you know the food is good.

On my first visit to Wuppertal in March, I went to this restaurant because I liked the menu. Such typically German and rustic food. I was there with friends and the first thing we ordered was a round of beer. For starters, I had onion soup, which was absolutely delicious, followed by spaetzle with venison goulash. Yesterday (June 7, 2025), I had the Schlachteplatte (slaughter platter). The food overall was delicious and tasted really good. Strongly spiced, as it should be. The restaurant is always quite full and the service is good. The ambiance, like the food, is rustic. It's definitely worth a visit. You should definitely make a reservation.

What a great place with delicious food and wonderful cuts.

The food tasted great, nothing to complain about. However, the portion was much too small; I left hungry. The schnitzel was the same portion as the children's schnitzel, but not the same price. The children's schnitzel came without salad, even though the menu states it does; it only came with a lettuce leaf and a slice of cucumber. The wait time, over 50 minutes, was also borderline. It's a shame; if the wait time and portion size had been reasonable, this would have been a 5-star rating.

We went there for the first time yesterday, and based on the menu and previous reviews, it sounded good. The schnitzel with salad was okay. There wasn't much sauce, though. My pork medallions, on the other hand, were a bit tough, the hollandaise sauce was ready-made from a packet, and the vegetables tasted like they came from the freezer and had very little to no seasoning. Bottom line: You don't need to have it again.

Unfortunately, the Coke wasn't carbonated. The schnitzel with asparagus only had three asparagus spears. The hollandaise sauce was cold, and the potatoes and schnitzel were lukewarm. I pointed this out, and they didn't charge for my drink. The service was very friendly.

The service? So warm you almost want to say "Mommy." The wines? Dry, like the waiter's sense of humor. The food? Regional, seasonal, and so good that even the spaghetti on the plate would applaud – if it could. Highlight: An evening there is like a good Riesling: slightly tipsy, pleasantly round, and at the end you wonder why you didn't come sooner. Conclusion: Wagner am Mäuerchen – where the wine flows, the wit sparkles, and the calories are, for once, welcome.

I can definitely recommend this restaurant; it's excellent value for money. I had a dish from the daily special with soup, which was well-prepared, and the vegetables were excellent. Very friendly staff.

We ate at this restaurant during this week and I have to say that the waiters were really not great. To say the least, one specific waiter was very entitled and rude. When we got there she seemed bothered by the fact that we were there at all and mentioned that she might be able to finally have a smoke if we could just sit down. The other waiter only came by once with no interest in taking our order and dissappeared as soon as the other did go smoking outside. Then the first seemed bothered when we ordered and afterwards when we were paying, upset with her service we obviously did not tip, she told us that tip was not included in the bill and that we could leave it on the table. The food was not bad, but the attitude of the waiters will not see us ever again.

A typical German Bistro. We were there to enjoy German food and we did. Friendly service and delicious food. The waitresses spoke English and they offered also an English menu.

We ate here with the family on a Saturday. I ordered pork medallions, which cost €19.90 according to the menu. When the plate came, I thought I had ordered a children's portion, there were actually only 3 medallions in total and one of them was only about 3 cm in diameter and 1.5 cm high (by eye) and a small portion of fries, you would have had to buy majo with it... the plate was only about 30cm x 20cm in size, so not exactly the largest... well, very questionable for the price, I don't actually want to mention the salad, it was already there brown and old, the dressing was just watery and didn't taste good at all. My partner was supposed to get fried potatoes, but instead she just got some soggy fried potato slices that just didn't taste like anything at all... just a disgrace in my opinion. Ps: unfortunately there is only PEPSI and no real cola, that showed me at the beginning that something could be wrong. But well now we are smarter and know that we won't come back again because it's too loud, too expensive and the quality is terrible!!!

My friends and I visited this gorgeous little restaurant for a birthday celebration . It was our first time in Germany and we wanted to experience an authentic dinner. The restuarent has a lovely atmosphere very cosy and the staff are all very welcoming. The food was delicious from start to finish with a high standard of service. We would to also thank the staff for the unexpected birthday treat and all the travel advice. Can not fault a thing here highly reccomnend.

Between all the modern sushi and kebab shops, I was happy to have found an old-established restaurant with German cuisine. There was a lot to choose from goulash and roulades, schnitzel or even salads and soup. And a quaint restaurant that will hopefully stay around for a long time.

A consistently great experience—a wide selection of different dishes. For me, the pork knuckle has been a must-have for years. The ambiance and service are fantastic. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Nice kind of corner pub and restaurant. The ambience is a lot of wood, which is why it leaves more of a pub impression. The service is super attentive, fast and friendly and contributed a lot to the feel-good factor in the evening. The dishes are large and ok, but could be better. As an example, the rump steak literally drowned in the pepper sauce, which was a shame. The price is ok, just in the city center area. All in all we can recommend it.

Packed on a Wednesday evening. Book if you want to be sure to get a table. Food: it‘s regional plus a few international alternatives like burgers. The knuckle of pork is soft and boiled, not crispy like in south Germany and that is the way it should be here. The side salads are part fresh and part from a jar like the beans. Again, typical for the area. Saute potatoes are cooked in oil and butter, not deep fried like McDonald chips. Please understand that this is regional food how it‘s been done for decades and not an attempt at Michelin classed meals. Always been happy there on various trips enjoying the food I grew up with. If you are from a different country and expect the food to be like where you come from, don‘t go there. If you want to try local food and are open to different tastes it‘s a good place to go.

Meat dishes were cold, over-fried on the sides and some ingredients looked very much like convention food. Nice for a simple, cozy evening with a beer, but for food there are much better places.

A very nice, rustic inn with history! The service was very nice, the food was home-style and very tasty, and the price was absolutely right. For me it's definitely a gem in the city center of Wuppertal! Of course it's not a 3 star meal, but I don't expect it to be. It was tasty nonetheless. If you come in the evening, you should make a reservation, we were there in the afternoon and were able to choose a place.

Cozy restaurant near the main train station. The menu leaves nothing to be desired. The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. If, like us, you get hungry after a long day of excursions in Wupperal, this is definitely the right place for you.

The service was very friendly and accommodating and quick. The ambience and facilities are very nice. The schnitzel we ordered was very fatty and probably prepared in the deep fryer. The whole meal tasted very neutral.

Leider wahren wir sehr enttäuscht von Allem, ich weiß nicht wo ich anfangen soll ehrlich gesagt. Ich rief mittags um kurz nach 12 Uhr an und bestellte einen Tisch für fünf Personen als Geschäftsessen für 18:30uhr am selben Abend. Wir kamen um 18:30 Uhr dort an und wurden von einer Kellnerin empfangen. Sie kam mit einem Notizzettel an und suchte meinen Namen und den der Firma, vergeblich 😕. Beschämend schaute ich schon in die Runde und dachte das wird bestimmt ein toller Abend (Ironie) .Die Kellnerin entschuldigte sich noch nicht einmal für die fehlenden notiz und verwies uns zu einem viel zu kleinen Tisch wo wir mit fünf Personen Platz nehmen sollten was wir auch taten den mein Chef wahr bereits auf dem Weg zu uns ...der Tisch stand übrigens direkt neben der Küche Ausgabe wo die Kellner das Essen raus brachten. So dann habe ich erbost der Kellnerin mitgeteilt daß das hier ein Geschäftsessen werden soll und kein Date mit Einer weiteren Person, die wollen schauen ob sie was tun kann, als mein Chef da wahr und sich zu uns allen noch mit auf die Bank quetschen konnte kam dann die Aussage von der Kellnerin "ach passt doch"! Meine beiden Chefs sind nicht Grade schlang und klein davon Mal ab. Wir haben dann essen bestellt, vier von uns haben ein Steak bestellt, wir alle haben medium bestellt und zwei von uns haben es roh bekommen, anfangs wahr es Grade noch zu schneiden und zu kauen aber bei weniger als die Hälfte vom Steak wurde es immer roher und blutiger und sehniger, ich dachte das kann bald nicht mehr Warzenschwein sein. An uns wurde immer fleißig dran vorbei gearbeitet aber nicht beachtet das auf unserem Tisch die Getränke länger leer standen als voll. Wir haben das Steak zur Hälfte zurück gehen lassen und danach zig Mal den Finger heben dürfen um überhaupt noch was bestellen zu können. Also Fazit: Gehen sie bloß nicht mit ihrer Firma dort hin essen, es wird peinlich für den der das Restaurant empfohlen hat und den Tisch reserviert hat und alles andere ist einfach nicht vertretbar . Die Kellnerin sind nicht wirklich freundlich (mehr getuhe) und können nicht das Unverständnis was man auf bringt nach dem man erfährt das die Reservierung schon nicht geklappt hat verstehen und bemühten sich auch ehrlich gesagt nicht um das ganze zu retten. Und wer das wissen möchte die Toiletten sind voll runter gekommen und widerlich. Teller haben abplatzer und der Tisch wahr so klein das unsere Teller noch nicht einmal neben einander gepasst haben. Schrott laden .

Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere.

I can't explain the current 4.5 points in the rating because the main service of a restaurant - food - is not true at all. We ordered steak with pepper sauce twice - once well-done, the other was not asked for. Both came medium rare. Ok for me, not ok for the one who wanted well-done. So, another long wait - first for the staff, then - for the steak. Now about the steak. Angus beef is advertised on the menu. The thickened onion sauce with a few peppercorns overwhelms the taste of the meat. It's bland and stuffy. Second steak was returned. You can benefit from a concession in the form of half the price for the second meal. The staff seemed tired and not very motivated. My conclusion - insufficient quality for comparatively a lot of money.

A very nice, small restaurant with small flaws. You can enjoy good home-style cuisine here, although the fried potatoes were a bit too greasy and some were already fried hearty (black). Otherwise the food was good. The service was also good after a short "thawing time", the waitress was attentive. From what I saw, this location is a good place to sit down for a card evening with friends or a meeting with work colleagues. For a romantic dinner it's a bit too rustic and has too much "pub character" (although it's always what you make of it ;) ). I probably won't go back, but overall it's recommended.

My Florentine steak was ok, nothing more but nothing less either. My wife's meal was really embarrassing! The potatoes were estimated to be at least 1 1/2 days old and dry. That something like this is even brought to the table. We complained and we were allowed to choose fries or fried potatoes. The fried potatoes that were then served were swimming in fat. We waited in vain for an apology, paid and won't be coming back! It's a shame that I've been really happy for several years. It used to be really good 🙁

Wir hatten uns auf einen schönen Aufenthalt im Lokal gewünscht mit bürgerlichen Gerichten und leckerem Bergischen Landbier. Das Landbier und das Servicepersonal waren sehr gut. Das Essen allerdings eine ziemlich große Katastrophe. Der Mensch in der Küche hatte keinen guten Tag, Die Anrichteweise lies keinerlei Zweifel zu. Schnecken angeblich in Kräuterbutter, dabei war es maximal Phase. also reines Oel. Die Gulaschsuppe war auch keine Offenbarung, lieblos ohne Paprika und oder Kartoffeln, vielleicht ein Convenience Produkt Die Sülze war ok. Landblutwurst mit Sauerkraut und Bratkartoffeln, alles zusammengeklatscht und als Krönung den Senf auf das Kraut gesetzt. Eine Schande sondergleichen, da hilft auch kein kostenfreies Getränk

Very nice old historic restaurant in the heart of Wuppertal. I enjoyed it very much, the service was friendly, it matched the house and the ambience was simply lovely. Doesn't always have to be modern. Interesting audience and you just felt comfortable.

We were there today. The food was great. We really like going there, it's cozy, the whole atmosphere is reminiscent of good home-style cooking, and the owners and staff are perfect for me.

Had a very nice evening. What is particularly noteworthy is that there is a high-quality vegan schnitzel alternative. Not a vegetable schnitzel or anything similar but one made from wheat protein. That was really tasty with the pepper sauce! Unfortunately the bruschetta wasn't that great, it should have been crispier and a little less onions and more tomatoes would have been perfect. The service was super nice and accommodating.

The second visit to this traditional house calls for 6-10 stars! There is no denying that the cuisine is excellent; the Bergisch country beer is simply delicious with or without alcohol. The service cannot be topped in terms of friendliness, even the dog was pampered again. For dessert (it's amazing that something else fit in!) there was tartufo, a worthy end to a super nice evening in a rustic atmosphere. The first visit here was a bit bumpy, with "only" 4 stars, but this time not only the 5th is well deserved! So from me privately, ***** on top of that! I'd love to come back the next time I'm back in my old homeland from East Frisia.

A restaurant with friendly staff, a rustic atmosphere and good beer. Unfortunately, the meal I ordered, fried meatloaf with fried eggs and fried potatoes, didn't convince me. The Leberkäs was far too bland and the fried potatoes could have used a little more seasoning and were a bit dry for my taste.

Service understaffed, therefore waiting time, guests who arrived after us were served well before us. The handle of the soup cup was dirty, there was still a slice of lemon left by the previous guests next to the cruet. Ambience quite rustic. But then the criticisms were made up for by very friendly, dog-friendly service and very tasty food. Paid parking within walking distance.

Good middle-class, honest and cozy. Kölsch 2 €!! The menu is meat-heavy, but there are also veggie dishes. Anyone who likes schnitzel, roast meat, savoy cabbage, side salad and sauerkraut... will feel good.
