We had reserved a table for 4 adults a few weeks in advance. When we arrived at the restaurant, we discovered that the table in a seating area was far too small and completely unsuitable. We asked to get a larger table, which worked. Every table inside had a reserved sign. While we had to wait around 45 minutes for our food, we were loudly entertained by a crowd of men who were loudly entertaining the entire restaurant. I would have liked the support of the innkeeper to keep the noise down a bit. Finally three out of four plates arrived. They must have forgotten one or something. At some point the overwhelmed waitresses realized that there should be food for everyone at the table... Unfortunately we also had to complain about the 🍴 cutlery because it was dirty. The waitresses had so much to do with the tables outside that they were completely annoyed and overwhelmed. The waitresses constantly walked past our table, but didn't notice that our glasses were constantly empty. I found the quantity and quality to be inadequate. I had a “Kurfürsten Schnitzel”. Schnitzel average size, well fried, no molded meat. Sauce rather thin, not very seasoned, Champions from the can and also a little sauce😕 Fries in a mini frying basket where you don't really know where to put the thing after you put the fries on your plate. I also found the portion of fries to be rather small 🫤 The plates aren't the biggest, so with the food they appear much larger than they really are. My summary: Food: simple Ambiance: rustic and authentic Service: between nice and haphazard Price performance: rather average To give 5 stars here

I can't confirm the bad reviews. The food was tasty and a good portion. It was also served hot. The waitresses were attentive and very friendly. Dogs are welcome and receive a water bowl. It was quite well attended for the time. Small note: the toilets are quite narrow and not wheelchair accessible.

The place is totally empty for two days in a row. Yet they claim that everything is reserved. It looks like that they just don't serve tourists. They ignore you when you sit on their empy terrace. Avoid this place!

Avoid this place. We sat waiting for 45 min until we finally got serviced. Then it took another 15 min to get our drinks. The waiters simply ignore you. They rather take a beer themselves instead of serving their customers.

It is a rustic pub with traditional cuisine. There were 5 of us (including a toddler) and we ate in the “beer garden” (a few tables in front of the door). It's very quiet because it's not directly on the pedestrian zone. But not far away either. We all enjoyed the food very much. But I would like to give special praise to the service. Very friendly and very attentive. The price-performance ratio is also right here. You still get a lot of food on your plate. 😉 Thank you for food and drink.

I had a beautiful Zigeuner Schnitzel, it wad just like I remembered, 30 years ago when I was stationed in Germany. My son had a med-rare pepper steak both served with a nice red cabbage coleslaw.

The quality and portion size didn't blow me away, but the service was friendly.

Zum ersten Mal hier gewesen. Sehr schönes rustikales Ambiente, gemütliche Sitzecken und bergische Tradition wird hier gepflegt. Gute Bierauswahl von Pils, Kölsch, Lanbier und mehr, vieles vom Faß frisch gezapft. Die Speisekarte bietet reichlich Auswahl in allen Kategorien, auch mit bergischen Spezialitäten und ergänzend eine Tages- bzw. Saisonkarte. Das alles in gutem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Das Personal war aufmerksam und freundlich, das Essen hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt. Ich werde gern wiederkommen. Tischreservierung ist allerdings zu empfehlen. Mit Bus, Bahn und Schwebebahn sehr schnell erreichbar.

First time visiting, but was very impressed. Authentic German pub with traditional local menu. Great Weiss beer, and a blood sausage starter platter. Ordered the Nuremberg sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potato as a main which was delicious. Recommend this restaurant for an authentic German beer and food, very friendly staff and great service and value for money.

Changing the potato side dish from fried to baked potato costs over four euros. We weren't made aware of this so it was very annoying. That food tasted good.

Even without a reservation, we were able to get a seat at lunchtime despite the good number of visitors. The service was quick and friendly. The ambience in the brewery or tavern style is basically well thought out. However, due to its small size, everything seems very hectic and cramped. The cleanliness of the tables and window sills could be improved. Tables not wiped, lots of dust on the windowsill. You don't have to wait long for food. The dishes are of varying quality. The Nuremberg sausages are advertised as grilled sausages but are definitely from the pan and the quality is far away from the original. The fillet was very dry. The side salads, puree and sauerkraut were fine. You can do it once but in conclusion I have to say I wouldn't plan another visit. But that's a matter of taste for many people

Great atmosphere which is not at all served and managed with the appropriate quality and knowledge. The schnitzel meat was not of good quality. The snippy waitress... What a disgrace! If the wrong things are served, it's basically the guest's fault. There were always small craftsmanship errors throughout the meal, which could actually have been easily avoided. Conclusion: I definitely won't come back! You can do a lot more with such a great store!

A restaurant that I will not visit again. As a result, snails are ordered and the waitress disappears into the kitchen without notice. After 2 minutes she comes back and replies with a “yes”. The rest of the table was picked up. When the starters come to the table, it's not snails that are delivered, but bruschetta. When the lady is made aware of the mistake, she replies "I only make 1% mistakes". So that the bruschetta doesn't have to go into the trash, we kept it at the table and added the snails afterwards. After the appetizers that had already been delivered had been eaten (we don't want to leave the bread that was served unmentioned, because raw meat was delivered in the basket with sliced ​​bread/a faux pas that should have been noticed), these plates were cleared away, the snails took another time. By the way, the worst snails I've ever been served. Unfortunately the main course wasn't any better either. Burnt schnitzel, burger buns so grilled that they were so hard that you left them alone. If it had been "just" the food deficiencies, the restaurant might have been given another chance, but to assume that the guest has a 99% error rate is an impudence.

One of the better restaurants in Wuppertal. Has quite some traditional German meals that taste great. Service and prices are good, but it is relatively hard to get a table for dinner, so reservations are needed. It's a cosy place and looks quite original. Recommended for a visit. I have recently been revisiting and it’s still great. The staff is very friendly and they even added some variety to the menu. It’s still best for typical “German” meals.

Beautiful, stylishly furnished restaurant in the middle of Wuppertal. Very tasty, drinkable cellar beer. The pork knuckle was delicious and very tender, the mashed potatoes were extremely tasty. But the big hit was the schnitzel. I've never eaten such a juicy schnitzel before. I can only recommend everyone to eat a schnitzel here... If you want to find a fly in the ointment, you could point out that the side dishes were a bit confusing.

Uriges Ambiente, leckeres Essen und frisches Fassbier, faire Preise und sehr nette Bedienung. Immer wieder gerne. Es empfiehlt sich allerdings für die Abendstunden einen Tisch zu reservieren.

Essen war ganz ok aber die Portionen waren lächerlich. Die Lasagne von der Tageskarte war so groß wie eine Ravioli, dazu gabs ungewaschenen Feldsalat.

Uriges Lokal mit viel Ambiente und sehr netter Bedienung. Sehr freundlich, auch zu unserem Hund. Die Gänsekeulen waren nicht mein Fall und die Soße etwas fad. Aber das Hirschgulasch war sehr zu empfehlen. Vor allem jetzt zur Weihnachtszeit war der Zimtpfannekuchen der absolute Renner! Sehr lecker!

Wir hatten das Räubermahl. Tolle Stimmung, super Personal ...es lohnt sich.

Leider war die 1. Erfahrung vom Abendessen her nicht gut. Es gibt viele Gerichte gutbürgerliche Küche. Der Leberkäse mit Krautsalat und Bratkortoffeln war sehr fettig das Spiegelei obendrauf ein vorher gefrorenes und das erhitztes Ei die Bratkartoffeln ohne Geschmack. Leider ist dies der Eindruck. Das Lokal war voll und gut besucht. Das andere Gericht bestand aus einer Tagessuppe( Bedienung wusste auf Anfrage nicht welche Tagessuppe es ist) Diese war eine Rindfleischsuppe sehr maggilastig. Das kleine Schnitzel mit Pommes war akzeptabel. Vielleicht war man auch überfordert da alles sehr hektisch verlief.

Gestern mit Tochter seit langer Zeit einen Platz bekommen und es war wirklich ein schöner Abend. Netter Service und natürliche Location. Küche typisch Bergisch und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Die Gulaschsuppe als Vorspeise war ein Traum, alles handgemacht mit viel Liebe, was man schmecken konnte. Ein richtig nettes Lokal im Herzen von Wuppertal. Kleiner Ratschlag für Ortsfremde, direkt gegenüber im Parkhaus Islandufer (200m entfernt) parken bevor man 20x um den Kreisel fährt.

Man sollte unbedingt einen Tisch reservieren. Essen ist fantastisch. Samstags ist die Küche leider schon um 20.00 Uhr zu. In der Woche bis 22.00 Uhr offen.

"Bürgerliches" Gasthaus im "alten" Stil. Hier wird das Schnitzel vor der Zubereitung noch geklopft und kommt nicht aus der Convenience-Verpackung. Auch der Salat ist frisch zubereitet. Das braucht etwas Zeit ist aber ok Die Preise sind angemessen und die Portionen nicht überdimensioniert. Freundlicher und schneller Service.

Wir haben Wild und Gans gegessen. Es war okay. Ambiente sehr simpel. Es war nicht besonders gut geheizt.

Beste gutbürgerliche Küche in einem bestens renovierten klassischen Gasthof mitten in der Stadt. Extrem freundliches Servicepersonal. Ich habe dort nach 47 oder 48 Jahren erstmals wieder Malzbier getrunken - und fand es richtig gut. Auch die Preise sind sehr attraktiv.

Travelled here 5 years ago and had one of the best tasty steaks I had in ages. We only visited Wuppertal again to taste the steak and beautiful fresh Veltins pilsner

Busy traditional German restaurant with surly but efficient service. The food was excellent and tasteful. Beer cold and a great selection on draft!

We visited the restaurant on a Friday at lunch time. Currently the specialities or seasonal dishes are all around fresh Chanterelles. And it was one of the few restaurants who had a game dish (Hirschgulasch with Spätzle and chanterelles) on the menu. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. All 3 of us enjoyed having lunch there. Starting October more game dishes will be on the menu but unfortunately we will be back to our home country Singapore.

We visited this pub three times during the stay in Wuppertal. Staff were very friendly. The food was good, we had main meals twice and a lighter lunch one day. it did get full and at some points the stff were really busy so the service was a bit slow. There are outside tables overlooking a quiet area with no other bars or cafes in sight! Would definitely recommend this pub for food and drink if staying in Wuppertal. It is slightly off the main area for cafes but only by 100 metres or so!

The restaurant has specific German food, which is very tasty and fresh. The warm apple strudel served with icecream is delicious. The restaurant is located in the city center and is a good value for money.

So, having been the person who put this place on Trip advisor in the first place, and having been here many times over the last decade - it's still wonderful. Old school, beautiful copper bar, excellent beer and fabulous regional food to suit all budgets. If you find yourself in Wuppertal, there is simply no other place to eat. Book though, as it is popular.
