A popular place on my bike tours in the surrounding area

Whether on foot or by bike, I always include this stop in my itinerary when I'm in the area. That's exactly what a restaurant should be like.

A typical tourist restaurant. The cake was delicious, and the service behind the counter, being self-service, was good. The prices were reasonable. Located right next to the dam, it's a great place to linger.

I visited the café with high expectations, especially because of the many recommendations for the beautiful location. The view was indeed magnificent – ​​a real highlight that almost justified the visit alone. The coffee was also impressive: aromatic, fresh, and pleasantly strong, just as you'd hope. Unfortunately, the apple pie seriously spoiled the overall impression. It was so inedible that I was seriously reminded of hospital food – dry, tasteless, and with a strange consistency that took away any joy in enjoying it. A piece of cake should be a moment of indulgence, but here it was the exact opposite. This disappointing experience cast a darker shadow over the entire atmosphere. It's a shame that such a beautiful location with great coffee loses credibility due to such poor baked goods. For a place that boasts a view and ambiance, the quality of the food should definitely improve.

Actually a nice restaurant, but unfortunately the food isn't that good. We had pea soup and lentil soup, which were edible. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it. You have to pay for the toilet even if you've eaten there, which is impossible.

We took a lovely bike ride there. The view was fantastic. The beer garden was unloved and dated. We wanted something to eat, but the €6 for a sausage and the self-service option put us off. But the area is definitely worth a visit. The restrooms there are spotless.

On a day with few customers, we sat down, bought drinks, and tipped so we wouldn't take up space with our food. A very rude waitress came over and told us we weren't allowed to eat our own food. We then cleared the food away, and when we finally wanted to use the restroom, we were asked to pay, even though we had bought drinks.

Perfect after a hike or bike ride. Self-service, order food or drinks at the counter, pay, and take away. It's a nice place to sit right by the lake. The food is excellent!

I can't comment on the food or the service; unfortunately, they're closed on Mondays, unfortunately! I think it's a shame that when a family sits down to eat at the table, they're sent away by the cleaning staff. Hey, if you're closed, just let people sit on the terrace. I found the young woman's demeanor almost cheeky! But we'd love to come back, just not on a Monday :)

We had a very tasty and well-filled (lots of meat) goulash soup with a sandwich for 8.50 euros.

Bad food, no good German specialties at all. Only sausages bought at Lidl with a portion of fries for €9. Blatant rip-off and disastrous quality and service.

Currywurst and fries for €9.50 or a nut wedge for €4.50... absolute extortion. The currywurst was cold, the fries were old. There are signs everywhere telling you what to do. The ambiance is run-down and faded.

Over the past few weeks, I've stopped at this beautiful spot several times for a short rest. This was always during the weekday afternoons, on days when there are relatively few visitors in this area. The restaurant is very idyllic, the tables are clean and beautifully decorated, and you can sit inside or outside, and in good weather, you can enjoy the view of the Urft Dam and the valley. In my experience, the restaurant offers typical snack food with a good selection, as well as various cakes. You get what you expect here. The quality of the food and drinks is absolutely fine for me. You can order at the counter and are given a pager. When the pager goes off, the food is ready for pickup at the counter. I find this quite convenient and also contemporary. Especially in times of staff shortages, this is a good way to avoid unnecessary strain on the existing and scarce resources. The staff is always friendly, recognized me on my second visit, and you can even have a quick chat. I find that very pleasant, too. What I find particularly remarkable – in a completely positive sense: This restaurant is located far away from busy roads – apart from the Rursee shipping pier below the dam. On weekends, when the weather is good, it's usually quite busy. During the week, however, it's a slow season (at least economically) – even when the weather is good. And yet, they offer such great service, and the menu is available all week (closed on Tuesdays!)! I consider that a little bit of luxury. Because where else in the wider area is there a restaurant that is open every day (except Tuesdays) in the beautiful Eifel landscape, far away from roads, and where guests can simply arrive any day of the week? I love coming here and always look forward to a little break on my excursions around Gemünd/Vogelsang/Rurberg/Einruhr and these beautiful reservoirs. A big thank you to the team at the Urftseemauer restaurant for being there for your guests and day-trippers and for making this little break possible for us.

We've been going here for ages, once with my parents, and for over 30 years with my wife. Whether it's pea soup with sausages or just fries, with a cold drink and friendly service at the self-service restaurant, you can always take a relaxing break here in beautiful surroundings. Anyone who complains about the prices should consider that the goods have to get there first. That costs money! Anyone looking for a feast will probably have to find another place. But a rest stop with consistent quality and a friendly owner, combined with such an environment, adds even more value to a hike at the Urft Dam.

I'd like to review the place. Unfortunately, it was closed when we were there. The location is great, and I could have done with a coffee on the way back.

Nice restaurant, simple but tasty food!

In my opinion, this chip shop (and that's all it is) cannot be recommended. The only positive aspects would be the friendly staff and the view. Hence the two stars. That's it. We paid over €18 for two fries with mayo, a 0.2l Coke, and a 0.33l Radler. The fries came on a children's plate, and the portion was accordingly manageable. It's also self-service. But feel free to see for yourself.

The food (pea soup) was quite okay, and the view was truly spectacular. But the older gentleman behind the cash register was always in a bad mood and a bit irritable.

Chococino was ok. Staff friendly. You have a great view outside.

Friendly welcome at the Urftalsperre and enjoyed a cool Steinfels and a very tasty bockwurst with rolls. With Bernd you can feel good after the climb.

Can't say anything negative. Pea soup with sausage was ok, cake too, coffee too. It's just a snack bar and not a star restaurant. Card payments are no problem either. Staff was friendly.

Unfortunately we weren't thrilled with our visit. The cake looked like frozen food – and unfortunately not the best kind. The “apple cake” in particular left something to be desired: the apple pieces were so hard that they could hardly be cut apart with a fork. The drinks have to be taken out of the fridge yourself, which wouldn't be a problem in itself. However, many glasses were not clean, which was unpleasant for us. We left several glasses on the shelf because they were dirty. The ambience seems careless and not well thought out. The furnishings are thrown together, and in the middle of the dining room there is a display case with toys that are for sale. Not a bad idea in itself, but unfortunately this presentation is not very appealing and doesn't fit in with the rest. The treatment of the staff was particularly disappointing. We would have liked a friendly “Hello” or “Goodbye”, but unfortunately such gestures were not forthcoming. I can't judge how things are going here in high season, but if it seems like things aren't well organized in winter, I wonder what it might look like when there are more visitors. The cleanliness, especially of the glasses, also raises doubts about hygiene standards. In summary, as beautiful as the surroundings are, we will probably avoid this café on our next visit. I hope that things will improve in the future.

Nice hike from Rurberg to the Urftseemauer...about 10km there and back

The coffee from a vending machine like at gas stations and a piece of dry cake that looks better than it really is. Personally, you will continue to talk to each other while you wait at the cash register.

Went hiking and stopped here. I would be happy about vegan alternatives to food. Always just fries and salad is not exciting for vegans and is no longer timely.

Great destination from Gemünd, Vogelsang, Einruhr etc., in the middle of the Eifel National Park. Great self-service snack bar accessible by bike, after a hike or after a boat trip, right at the Urftsee dam. The food selection is okay (home-style Eifel style) and there are warm and chilled drinks. Due to the remote location, the prices are understandable. There are spacious and clean toilets. The information boards about the dam are outdated and a bit boring for my taste. The community could do it again.

Unfortunately the place isn't nice. Furnishings old, not particularly clean, food not spectacular either and disappointing. Employees in a bad mood and not friendly. No card payment possible. After all, you are informed about it several times by what feels like 30 DIN A4 pieces of paper. I won't comment further on why you can't pay by card because of a poor internet connection. View great.

Nice location to run a restaurant. Unfortunately, I don't think it's very attractive. It is all a bit outdated and needs a makeover. Food is reasonable, hygiene is not good, downright bad. Tables are sticky, flies and wasps around you, and the windowsill is full of dead insects. And I'm not exaggerating, just nasty. Clean up that mess and make something of it in such a unique location.

Was there today with some colleagues. 2 Stubbi Radler, 2 Gemünder, over €17. When I asked about the individual price and whether there was a deposit on the bottles, I only got the snappy answer: the prices were reasonable and without a deposit. On the next visit without stopping to Rurberg.

The view would be nice even without a restaurant. Staff unmotivated and not exactly friendly. When you ask whether a lemon is possible in mineral water, you are looked at as if you have ordered a cocktail. We spread a little bread ourselves and were asked in a stern tone not to do it, as if we had stolen something. Toilets are spacious. Not clean but not dirty either

Simple and straightforward self service

Great location for excursions on the Urfttalsperre. Ideal as a break for hikes, bike tours and boat trips. Food is snack quality, large selection of warm and chilled drinks (sometimes expensive), clean toilets.

Erbsensuppe und Kuchen sind gut, Currywurst mit Pommes reichlich. Aber die Atmosphäre - u.a. im Aussenberei teils Mobiliar aus den 1950er Jahren oder Vorkriegszeit und völlig ungepflegte Picknickbänke. Plastikbestuhlung ausgeblichen, Tischdecken vom Discounter. Selbstbedienung und wenig herzliches Personal am Schalter. Hier wird Umsatz gemacht und nicht reinvestiert. Trotz steigender Preis und teilsmerkwürdiger Preisgestaltung.

Very nice location and a beer garden invite you to linger. Unfortunately, gastronomically very unimaginative. Summer and winter there are pea and goulash soup, fries and currywurst at impressive prices. No salad, nothing fresh. My bockwurst was lukewarm and the roll was industrial. Plus self-service and unmotivated staff. What a pity....

The view there is unbeatable but unfortunately the food and the restaurant are really nothing. We had currywurst, bratwurst, bockwurst and potato salad. Although you can't go wrong with it, it was really nasty. All the sausages were cold, the potato salad was out of a bucket (not homemade), and the fries were over-fried. The whole thing for €50! The food was of very poor quality. The outside area is dirty and neglected, very old broken picnic tables or plastic chairs. Okay for a quick drink on a hike but otherwise not recommended at all. It's actually a shame, because this could be a good place! Definitely misused space.

The view was really beautiful when we walked from the hiking trail to Lake Urft. From the panoramic view at the lookout point you could see a restaurant. When we got there we were first told by other guests that this was a self-service restaurant! So we went in to get an overview. Drinks and food were on a board. I wasn't hungry anymore when I saw the menu. We had soup and drinks. The soup was too salty and you had to get the drinks out of the fridge yourself and find the opener and open it yourself. Unfortunately the soup was too salty and the view was of a children's playground instead of the lake. Conclusion Get a drink and find a place with a view yourself. It's worth it...

Great location on the dam wall, super nice owner. Friendly and helpful. It is intended for snacking on the go, preparing food yourself.

Not great, but not bad either, therefore three stars. It is suitable as the only place where you can eat and drink something, but at another location something more could be done about the atmosphere, quality of food and prices. But we were especially grateful that there was something after a few hours of walking. 😇

The only contact point at the Urfttalsperre, that is being exploited. Tables and benches outside in poor condition. Everything could be neater. Price-performance ratio not ok. Just a small dab of mayo costs €1.50 - that's a rip-off. Cake old and dry. You could only just eat the cream. When we complained about this when returning the dishes, the answer was that the information would be passed on. All in all, unfortunately no longer recommended.

The workers were very sweet and polite, the service was excellent and we felt very comfortable. We rested after a long day of hiking here. It’s wheelchair friendly and has a very calm atmosphere. The owner was very sweet and friendly, he helped us out and was very welcoming! Definitely recommend!

Viewed objectively from a gastro perspective, I would call it an outrage. It's self-service, totally OK and the young lady at the checkout was really friendly. And the lake view is just the lake view. And the fact that restaurateurs should earn money is also completely OK. However, the food on offer (we had fries, bockwurst and currywurst) is really a lousy number in terms of price/performance ratio. The fries were bad, finished and dark, the blob of mayo for 1.50 was really a joke, the bockwurst was watery, the roll with it was somehow too hot, it was small, we're not talking about freshness. The currywurst was very dark, the sauce was warm ketchup. The drinks prices also make you feel sick. And if the furniture is completely rocked down, that's enough. Sorry but this is a completely rip off money machine. On a Sunday with this weather they could definitely have offered better and fresher food. A pity.

Actually a really great corner in the Eifel. You could do a lot more with this special spot. Since there are no alternatives in the place, people naturally stop in. However, you can't go wrong if you pack your provisions and take care of yourself on site or nearby 😉

Die Eintöpfe sind klasse, die Selbstbedienung ist freundlich und der Blick über Urft- und Obersee ist wunderschön

Wir waren heute hier. Kuchen 4 Euro für 1 st. Der Preis ist eine Sache aber es war der schlechten kuchen das ich jeweils probiert habe. Null Geschmack. Es sollte ein Apfel Streusel kuchen sein. Es sah sehr dunkel aus aber nee das ist meine Meinung nicht zu zumuten.

De keuze is niet al te groot maar het eten is lekker en goed verzorgd tegen redelijke prijzen. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk.

Wir saßen draußen mit super Blick auf die Urftsee. Total entspannte Atmosphäre, kleiner Kinderspielplatz (Wippe, Wippfiguren, Schaukeln) direkt in Sichtweite. Essen passt für einen Imbiss sehr gut, Wartezeit war sehr kurz. Getränke könnten gerne auch in größeren Flaschen angeboten werden (meist 0,25 - 0,33 L). Wir waren mit 4 Erwachsenen und 3 Kleinkindern unter der Woche außerhalb der Haupt-Ferienzeit gegen 12 Uhr dort.

Blij verrast dat er een eettentje was na de boswandeling. Vriendelijke gastheer, goede patat, lekkere koffie, mooi uitzicht.

Auf den ersten Blick zwar ein typischer Touri-Spot, entpuppt sich dann aber als nettes Lokal mit hausgemachten Speisen und gute Einkehrmöglichkeit auf der 4. Eifelsteig-Etappe.

Mega netter Service, Essen allerdings mittelmäßig, nach einer langen Wanderung schmeckts natürlich trotzdem.
