My favorite restaurant in Berlin. Delicious food. I recommend it!

This restaurant was once my favorite due to its delicious food, but I’ve been disappointed on several occasions due to inconsistent standards. First time visiting I would’ve given it five stars. The seating is not particularly comfortable, and the space is very tight, which can make for an uncomfortable dining experience. Most of my disappointing visits have occurred when the restaurant is busy and rushed. However, when it’s not overwhelmed with customers, it remains one of my preferred spots. I highly recommend the Deep-Gold Beef, as it’s my personal favorite. That said, the quality can vary—sometimes the portion sizes are smaller than expected, with less meat, or the ingredients don't have the right temperature (such as when the mangoes appear to be frozen). The rice can also be served cold, and the heat distribution being off is just not a nice experience. The drinks are excellent, though on the pricier side, and the desserts are enjoyable as well. Service quality seems to depend on the staff member, as it can feel rushed, likely due to understaffing. Overall, while I still enjoy the food when it’s at its best, consistency remains an issue.

We were in the area spontaneously and went based on the reviews and ended up here. We weren't disappointed. Great atmosphere, delicious weekly specials, nice service. Everything was super tasty. The prices were reasonable. Since it was the middle of the week, we were lucky with a table for two. If you are traveling with more people, it is better to make a reservation.

They brought the menu and the waitress left without saying anything. We opted for the family menu but it turned out it was no longer available. We asked for a few more minutes to choose something else. The waitress came back after 10 minutes, we started to order, but in the end it turned out that there were only 2 dishes from the menu... why not say it right away?! 🤷 I can't rate anything other than beer, but beer is not the restaurant's credit

Super delicious food and very nice service. All are very child-friendly and there are extra chairs for children. We really enjoy coming here.

The food was good and the decor too, but I cannot bring myself to give more than 2 stars because of the service. The place is so loud that you cannot hear your own voice. We wanted to order dinner for two people and the dishes we wanted weren’t available. We asked to order our dessert at the same time as ordering everything else, and have it brought to us after the main course… however the woman who took our order insisted on us asking for the dessert later. We said we visited the restaurant especially for the dessert and they assured us they had it and we can ask for it later. When we finished our food, we asked for the dessert and we were told that it’s out!!! Then we waited for the bill for 45 minutes. The waitress kept pushing us to leave her a tip and continued asking for a tip, also saying “are you sure you don’t want to give a tip?” after we had said no. Would absolutely not want recommend anyone to go there unless they want their mood ruined by the staff.

Insanely delicious! On a cold day we were very happy about the hot, fresh food. It's rare to get something so fresh on the table. We also really liked the teas, as well as the Vietnamese coffee as a small dessert. The store is also very nice inside.

Food is delicious and the staff is sosososo nice

The beef pho was incredible! The staff was super friendly, helpful, and spoke excellent English. The decor and vibe here were amazing, even the toilet rooms were beautiful. Also, I'm gluten free and can say I had no reaction to the pho so if you are gluten free there are great, safe options here. Highly recommend.

The food here is always delicious and I always enjoy coming here. The service is also very good. The only detraction is the ambience, because it is always overcrowded and therefore simply too loud and crowded to be able to eat in a relaxed manner. Maybe it's more pleasant at other times.

Wir waren zu dritt am Montag Abend da. Obwohl es sehr voll war haben wir noch einen Platz bekommen. Die Bedienungen waren sehr schnell und freundlich, auf einen Extrawunsch meines Vaters wurden Rücksicht genommen. Das Essen kam zügig und alle Zutaten waren sehr frisch somit das Essen auch sehr lecker. Wenn Ich Mal wieder in Berlin bin sehr gerne wieder.

Nice atmosphere! But the restaurant is a bit "overhyped": my tea wasn't tasty and the noodles in my dish weren't cooked through. Maybe it was an exception for me and otherwise it's always good here.

Mi primera experiencia de comida vietnamita y fue increíble. Éramos 6 de nosotros cenando aquí y todos disfrutamos mucho. Gran servicio, buena comida. Es un lugar muy concurrido. No pudimos reservar una mesa y tuvimos una espera de 10 minutos para sentarse como se llega, primero servido. Vale la pena esperar. Las mesas son bancos largos para que pueda sentarse junto a extraños. Esto no nos preocupó.

The food was very good, we liked it a lot. They take reservations only for bigger groups, so if you're 2 people, you'll have to go and try your luck. The tables are shared, so you are given a place next to some strangers. Pretty small but not a concept you see often and somehow interesting to experience at least once

The restaurant is stylishly and exceptionally furnished, the menu is creative and special. The drinks are excellent, the quality of the food has deteriorated significantly in the last few months, the deep fried beef comes cold and in tough shreds. The service is abysmal - you're pressured to take up as little space as possible (never even consider sitting at a tiny table for four with only two people, even if there's something available), then quickly order and leave. Children are not welcome at all, probably too low an order value. There is no question as to whether it was tasty or whether something was still missing - no one is interested. It's a shame how blatantly short-term profit is optimized here - we won't be back.

Delicious selection of dishes, the food comes very quickly. Unfortunately, the seating is extremely cramped and it is very loud.

I would like to rate the ambience with 6 stars - absolutely awesome! Solid, tasty Vietnamese cuisine. Prices ok, service great.

The food was amazing 10/10, I had the rice noodles with beef and veggies. It was truly amazing, would definitely go again. The restaurant it self is so pretty and cozy loved it. The waitress was giving me a lil stresses vibes, I just sat down and I was already asked if I‘ve decided what I wanna eat, I would recommend giving the customers a lil more time. But besides that it was amazing

I had the pleasure of visiting the Vietnamese restaurant Umami X-Berg in Kreuzberg and was completely satisfied. Luckily I had reserved in advance, otherwise it can be difficult to get a table - there is often a decent queue out the door. But once you get a table you are rewarded with an excellent experience. The food was simply fantastic - every dish was full of flavor and lovingly prepared. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the ingredients and the authenticity of the Vietnamese flavors. The service was also very friendly and attentive, which made the entire visit even more pleasant. The atmosphere at Umami X-Berg is cozy and inviting, which perfectly rounds off the overall experience. If you're in the mood for delicious Vietnamese food, you should definitely stop by. I can only warmly recommend the restaurant!

It's good food. Quality ramined good. I mean it's not wow l but doesn't go wrong. The staff are not interested and sometimes unfriendly. It's also often too crowded which to me means losing points

Note: I can NOT comment on the dishes offered here! This week I watched the program "My Local, Your Local", in which the managing director of Umami was one of the participants. It presented itself there in such a way that I personally (!) decided to definitely avoid this restaurant. The task was to evaluate the others' restaurants in terms of the interaction of ambience, service and cuisine. The managing director of Umami showed a high level of knowledge during the show, but - in my opinion (!) - also a great lack of empathy or piety. He judged purely based on the food, specifically looked for errors in the other participants' food, e.g. T. was literally torn apart and rated absolutely unjustifiably more than once, which even horrified the professional chef who was presenting. Personally (!) I can only wonder how one can take part in a program like "My Local, Your Local" and then also defame other chefs in such a way with - in my opinion - such low criticism and competitiveness; especially if you don't even cook in your own restaurant, like the other participants. For me personally (!), the presentation of the Umami restaurant was a strong, meaningful indictment.

Wir hatten reserviert, schönen Tisch rechts bekommen, schneller und aufmerksamer Service !! Das Essen kam sehr schnell, gut, wenn auch ohne auffallende Gewürze. Die Salatbeilage war dürftig, das Essen lauwarm und die Mango sehr unreif. Hier wäre bei den extrem guten Bewertungen noch Luft nach oben. Kurz: gut, sicherlich ist sehen und gesehen werden wichtiger als das Essen. Und Flott !! Wir waren mit zwei Gängen nach 50 min fertig

Unfortunately, I can agree with the generally more negative reviews. We ordered a starter and three main courses, everything came together within 5 minutes. I was a bit surprised that it happened so quickly, which I didn't find particularly positive. In addition, in my opinion, the food was far too salty and generally very bland. But that's just my impression. We were served by two people, the gentleman was very nice and accommodating. However, the woman who took over our table was super unfriendly on all levels. We were very annoyed with them. I think the ambience is great, you can sit on the floor in a special area, I liked that.

The food and cocktails are excellent, the ambiance is also nice, but I think the service needs to be improved. I know that the restaurant is very busy but they were being unnecessarily rude.

We were here on the weekend and it was pretty busy. Reservation is recommended! The ambience is really reminiscent of the loud, crowded streets in Vietnam where you just sit with strangers. You have to like that! Despite all the guests, the service was quick and friendly. The kitchen catered well to my needs as a pregnant woman. The food is more of a fusion cuisine, you shouldn't expect traditional Vietnamese dishes. Still, it was tasty.

For me this is the best Asian/Vietnamese place in Kreuzberg and beyond! Very lovely and very fresh Vietnamese food! Friendly and very correct staff with outstanding service! And the freshness of the meals is breathtaking! Thanks! 🤩 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

The broth of the Pho was delicious, but unfortunately the beef in it didn't taste good at all, it was really tough. It would also be great if the pho was served with a piece of lemon and some chili.

Unfortunately we waited 20 minutes because we were apparently forgotten when we took our order. However, the food came very quickly. That was good. Unfortunately the taste was below average. We waited forever for dessert again and had to ask again. We were forgotten here too. 3/5 stars is still good

Hi, so with 3 stars it is still rated just as well. In my opinion and also in agreement with my wife, we have eaten much better. After ordering "Wild Duck" and red curry with tofu, everything came to the table very quickly and carelessly. Of course it is mostly pre-cooked. For my taste, the rice was not only very sticky but also very tasteless. Kimchi was overcooked just like the carrots. My wife had the tof returned completely. The waitress who is clearing away says “yes, yes..” After the complaint when paying, she deducted 15%, which is ok so far. From my or our point of view, I can't really recommend this. LG

This place is overrated. The summer rolls they served were basically supermarket prepackaged salad, entire stalks, not even chopped, wrapped with a couple chunks of fish. Their pho was also flavorless.

This place has an extremely cozy and unusual atmosphere. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. To be honest, I ate here one of the best PHO soups in my life. The service was very nice and despite the heavy traffic, we didn't have to wait too long for the order. I recommend!

Hallo und guten Tag, Berlin hat sehr viele gastronomische Einrichtungen , die wirklich emphelenswert sind. Diese war es nicht. Das Essen kam sehr schnell - das war das einzig Gute. Geschmacklich war es kein Genuss, Massenabfertigung, serviert in defektem Geschirr (vielleicht sollte ja gerade das der Bringer sein) aber wenn ich mich am Geschirr schneiden kann, ist Schluß mit lustig. Die Einrichtung war sehr gut besucht, halt Prenzelberg mit seinen Touris, das war vielleicht auch der Anlass, warum die Servicekräfte permanent in Tischnähe standen. Das hatte den Rausschmeißcharakter und machte den Auffenthalt unangenehm. Ist uns keinen zweiten Besuch wert. Schade

This was once a good place but now its just an asian food format ,the food is constantly tasting and looking exactly the same like has been produced industrially.And thats not a good sign.The service is super terrible in the best worst german asian tradition. Still understandable for the relative cheap prices,but Places like this can only survive in German I just much love the ambiance and their toilettes and its the only reason i would go back there:)

Traveling through Berlin I was hesitant to eat at a Vietnamese restaurant at first, but so many people had recommended this place. I had to try it. There’s no wait in the servers we’re very open to providing suggestions. I got the dumpling soup and the duck rice. It was absolutely delicious, I would definitely come back here again.

The restaurant was nicely decorated and despite being busy on Saturday, the service was friendly and the food was served quickly. I would definitely recommend the Super Sea Bowl with their delicious udon noodles. And the strawberry wine. :) we celebrated a friend's birthday in this restaurant and it was worth it!

We loved Umami! Food was great and lots of options for both meat and vegetarian eaters. We loved the vegetarian dumpling soup and tofu curry rice dish. Prices were very very affordable. The atmosphere was super cute, and we did sit on the ground in the back. It was very cramped and very uncomfortable in jeans, but was a cool experience. Wine was not good and wine list was subpar.

We were sitting outside when another guest vomited at the end of our table. The waiter stood right next to him and made no move to clean up the vomit or help the guest (who also firmly believed that the nausea was caused by the food). By the time our food was delivered, the vomit had still not been wiped away and we had not been offered a new table. That doesn't work at all

I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. The food was really delicious, and I enjoyed every bite! The atmosphere, however, felt a bit rushed, as if the waiters were stressed by the number of visitors. Despite the busy vibe, it was still a nice meal overall.

This was my favourite meal I had in Berlin! I had the dragons BBQ and it was so good, cooked perfectly and the flavour was amazing! The restaurant itself is nice, it’s very busy so would recommend booking although we did manage to get a walk in table. The prices were really reasonable and the drinks were also nice. Would highly recommend!

Came over for a late lunch with my daughter after shopping in the area and had a great dining experience. Very friendly staff. Was blown away by the salty pearl tea made with their homemade fermented limes. Very tasty 😋🤤

Fast service and good food at reasonable prices

We've been here a number of times and initially really enjoyed our visits. 6 months ago, I was really put off by the very grumpy waitress, but we thought we'd give it another try about 10 days ago. It was the same waitress serving us and the other staff member who served us was also very unfriendly. We ordered a couple of glasses of Spatburgunder red wine, but we were served with something that was definitely not Spatburgunder. We told them that this wasn't the correct wine and it was replaced with what we think may have been the correct wine, but it's impossible to know. Of course, we understand that mistakes can happen. The food was fine. I was surprised by how high the bill was, considering what we ordered. We tried our best to be friendly and polite to the serving staff, but this wasn't reciprocated. Unfortunately, we won't return.

The atmosphere is ok, the decor is typical for this type of restaurant. The food was tasty, although the rice was completely overcooked (mush). The service was moderately interested in the guest, but without any drama. I was there, I saw it, I tried it. Will we go back there? I don't think so :)

I am a long-time customer and it was my favorite restaurant for a long time. But now it's impossible to eat out there regularly like I used to 2-3 times a week. The prices are prohibitive and the service leaves a lot to be desired (the staff has changed, the old crew who were very warm and attentive were replaced by grumpy/unfriendly service). The 40% price increase is anything but justified...The portions have become smaller and you get the feeling that they want you to leave quickly after eating or order something. I will avoid umami in the future as I don't see any added value for the store.

Umami was crowded by 6 on a Saturday night, but the wait wasn't too long and the atmosphere was fun. The decor is great and the staff were helpful. My fried fish in a red coconut curry sauce was fine, with delicious root veggies hidden at the bottom, but the flavors could have been a bit more interesting.

A must visit. Walk-in only restaurant in a great area of Berlin. Lovely decor, great choice of food and drinks (great cocktails!) and social atmosphere. Portion sizes were great and the taste was incredible, some of the best Asian cuisine I’ve tasted. Service was friendly and quick - would highly recommend! Top dish was the crispy duck main course…

When I went out to eat here with a few friends, I was particularly impressed by the restaurant's layout. The food was beautifully presented, fresh, arrived quickly even though the restaurant was quite full, and above all, very tasty. The only, but minor, criticism I would mention is that it was quite loud, but there was still a very cozy and pleasant atmosphere in which you had to talk a little louder, but you could still have a good conversation without any further effort. If you still want something a little quieter, I recommend Umami P-Berg, as it is a little quieter there. As a precaution, I would reserve a table in both restaurants. Ultimately, it's a big recommendation from me and a clear S-tier, if not above.

It was a delicious meal. The pho soup was very fresh and there was a lot of beef. The roast duck rice bowl was also delicious. I ordered the fried sweet potato as a single item and it was delicious. The waiter was very sunny.
