Umami in Berlin

We've been here a number of times and initially really enjoyed our visits. 6 months ago, I was really put off by the very grumpy waitress, but we thought we'd give it another try about 10 days ago. It was the same waitress serving us and the other staff member who served us was also very unfriendly. We ordered a couple of glasses of Spatburgunder red wine, but we were served with something that was definitely not Spatburgunder. We told them that this wasn't the correct wine and it was replaced with what we think may have been the correct wine, but it's impossible to know. Of course, we understand that mistakes can happen. The food was fine. I was surprised by how high the bill was, considering what we ordered. We tried our best to be friendly and polite to the serving staff, but this wasn't reciprocated. Unfortunately, we won't return.

The atmosphere is ok, the decor is typical for this type of restaurant. The food was tasty, although the rice was completely overcooked (mush). The service was moderately interested in the guest, but without any drama. I was there, I saw it, I tried it. Will we go back there? I don't think so :)

I am a long-time customer and it was my favorite restaurant for a long time. But now it's impossible to eat out there regularly like I used to 2-3 times a week. The prices are prohibitive and the service leaves a lot to be desired (the staff has changed, the old crew who were very warm and attentive were replaced by grumpy/unfriendly service). The 40% price increase is anything but justified...The portions have become smaller and you get the feeling that they want you to leave quickly after eating or order something. I will avoid umami in the future as I don't see any added value for the store.

A must visit. Walk-in only restaurant in a great area of Berlin. Lovely decor, great choice of food and drinks (great cocktails!) and social atmosphere. Portion sizes were great and the taste was incredible, some of the best Asian cuisine I’ve tasted. Service was friendly and quick - would highly recommend! Top dish was the crispy duck main course…

Umami was crowded by 6 on a Saturday night, but the wait wasn't too long and the atmosphere was fun. The decor is great and the staff were helpful. My fried fish in a red coconut curry sauce was fine, with delicious root veggies hidden at the bottom, but the flavors could have been a bit more interesting.

When I went out to eat here with a few friends, I was particularly impressed by the restaurant's layout. The food was beautifully presented, fresh, arrived quickly even though the restaurant was quite full, and above all, very tasty. The only, but minor, criticism I would mention is that it was quite loud, but there was still a very cozy and pleasant atmosphere in which you had to talk a little louder, but you could still have a good conversation without any further effort. If you still want something a little quieter, I recommend Umami P-Berg, as it is a little quieter there. As a precaution, I would reserve a table in both restaurants. Ultimately, it's a big recommendation from me and a clear S-tier, if not above.

It was a delicious meal. The pho soup was very fresh and there was a lot of beef. The roast duck rice bowl was also delicious. I ordered the fried sweet potato as a single item and it was delicious. The waiter was very sunny.

We weee lucky to get a table as we went without reservation and the place is always packed... The staff are super nice and friendly and the food came very swiftly, and what can I say about the quality, the portions and the taste: the thickness of the curry and the crispy duck without fat or the amazing dumpling soup... absolutely delicious... won't be my last time for sure

Even though the restaurant was aľmost completely full, we got seated after a couple minutes :)) The tables were pretty close to each other and it was pretty busy and loud but it just added to the vibe and wasn’t problematic at all. The stuff was so so busy but still patient while we were ordering. And the food was 11/10!!! The soup with prawn dumplings was the best thing i’ve ever eaten. Literally made my whole night😌 At the back of the place there is absolutely adorable chill out space 🥹 11/10 recommend and would unironically come back to berlin just for that soup

I like the Umami restaurant, tasty, nice, great service. They're very loud when they're full, but that's part of it.

The vegetarian combination dinner for two is really recommended

We tried the vegetarian Family Mix for three. I really don't recommend it! Except for the curry everything tasted dry and boring. One dish was huge chucks of saitan on salad without any dressing. The springrolls were overcooked. The sauces do not fit the rest of the dishes. We ordered extra dumblings and they tasted ready-made from the freezer. If you like vegeterian food go for the Shaolin Bowl. That is a stable for the Umami. Otherwise try one of the many other vietnamese restaurants in Berlin. The interior creates a nice atmosphere. And the service is okay but very quick.

One of my favorite restaurants. When I'm near Bergmannstr I really like to go here. The selection and quality is recommended.

I picked up the food from you and the cardboard boxes were already completely soaked after 30 minutes of transport. When I took out the soggy bag, everything at the bottom fell out and the food for almost €40 was left on the street... instead of eating comfortably, I had to scrub the coconut milk sauce off my car seats for an hour. I'm really mad!! Please use different packaging in the future, especially for soups and sauces!

My favourite Asian place in the kiez.Love the floor sitting zone and chic big restrooom for ladies with a lots of decorations and real plants.The food is always delicious and served with taste.Good price/quality ratio.It can be very loud and crowdy,but if you are lucky to catch it half empty,it feels really cozy.Highly recommend!

Wir waren die letzten Jahre schon oft hier und immer zufrieden mit dem Essen. Diesmal war leider alles anders. Der Salat in den Sommerrollen hatte braune Stellen und geschmeckt haben sie nach nichts. Unser Bowl war ganz okay aber irgendwas ist jetzt anders. Es war unser Lieblingsrestaurant im Bergmannkiez, nun kommen wir nicht unbedingt wieder. Vielleicht nur ein schlechter Tag. Das Personal war auch nicht sehr aufmerksam. Sie haben sich eher gelangweilt, als zu bedienen.

Unfortunately, the food was not very well seasoned and very, very watery. Service was nice.

We eat well but the dishes remain ordinary. The cocktails are very good and the food is decent. Big downside, there are too many tables and therefore customers indoors, there is a lot of noise inside. The staff is ok. The value for money is not there. I find the bill steep for just a cocktail and a dish (around €25)

This is a must visit in Berlin! My boyfriend and I visited on a Wednesday evening and it was super busy - for good reason! One of the best meals we’ve had! I would recommend getting the family menu with the chicken curry option, everything was perfect and great cocktails too. Service was also amazing, our server My was extremely kind and helpful - 10/10 would recommend!!!

Good attentive service, but the food was below expectation. The angry calamari was really boring and the shezuan beef needed way more spices. I’d recommend trying out different asian fusion restaurants before you wait here.

The duck breast I had was extremely tough and inedible. Nobody asked me what I wanted it to be. The preparation and the quality of the meat were very poor. The service was completely overwhelmed and incompetent with the complaint. The boss was apparently not in the house. So there was no reaction! Not recommended!

I loved the dish „nostalgie…“ I dont remember the all name of the dishes but was something with curry sauce, pumpkin, sweet potato and seitan. It was really amazing !! Everybody has to try this delicious meal.

Very unfriendly service, who hardly spoke any German. Food is mass-produced and tastes like any other Asian street food in Berlin. No fresh preparation.

The service in the restaurant took a while, which unfortunately extended the waiting time. This was particularly noticeable on a hot summer day as the temperatures indoors became quite uncomfortable. But the wait was worth it: the vegetarian main course, especially the soup number 22 (Angkor wat’s pan) on the menu, was excellent. Particularly noteworthy are the juices, of which the green smoothie with spinach and matcha (Green Spleen) is highly recommended. The dessert was also convincing across the board - the matcha cheesecake (cake of the day) and the black sticky rice with peanuts and coconut sauce were outstanding.

Always a pleasure to have a pho soup in Umami. I definitely recommend it.

Super quick and tasty Great atmosphere

The place is very nice and large, there are numerous seats both inside and outside. The menu offers many vegetarian dishes, the service is quick and friendly and the prices are competitive.

Once again we had a great meal, great service, food came very quickly. Made me happy!

The place inside is very nice and well-kept, the bathrooms are a gem. Huge choice for vegetarians with very good dishes and an excellent price. The staff is very kind.

Amazing restaurant, however they stopped serving tab water, even when ordering drinks from the menu. 5 stars again once the policy is being changed back to serving tab water.

The appetizers were good. The main courses with sticky unflavored rice were a huge disappointment that turned into pain and heaviness in my stomach afterwards… The meat, mango, and rice dish had no sauces at all, it was impossible to eat. The cocktail a la Moscow Mule was so bitter that we had to withdraw it… Totally overrated and overpriced. :(((

Food here is outstanding. Also good service. We ordered some startes to share, and main courses. One of the best main courses i have eaten in any vietnamese restaurant, surf and turf. Meat was very well prepared. A High recommendation.

Very pleasant restaurant. The decoration is all in wood and gives a fairly calm and warm atmosphere. We took some assortments to share which were really very good and more than enough for two! I really recommend this place, however you have to think about booking before because the place can be a victim of its success.

This is definitely a place you need to book in advance, and luckily we did on a Friday night because the queue was very long at 8 pm. We still had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table, but once seated, everything moved quickly. We tried some of their cocktails, which were really delicious. We shared starters between the three of us, and then we each had a main course. Unfortunately, we couldn’t try any of the desserts because we were too stuffed, but maybe next time. Also, it's worth noting that the mains are very cheap compared to other places around the area. Will definitely be back.

Perfect resturant with Great vietnamese food for pretty cheap! Order the family deal if you are wanting to try multiple items while saving some money! Everyone loves it so be prepared to wait a little for a table (especially if you want to sit outside in the sun✨)

Very good restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was very tasty and the whole menu was well thought out so that everything complemented each other well. There are also plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes available. The service was friendly and courteous. The business space itself is a bit narrow. Card payment is possible.

It is simply very, very tasty! For many people this is already their favorite pub.

Umami is a chain of Vietnamese restaurants that I always go to when I'm visiting Berlin. The dining experience is truly wonderful! The choice of products is very high quality and the blends of flavors are harmonious.

Excellent service, multilingual. Very good food. I had a seafood bowl. Served promptly and hot. Great Patio seating. We had both alcoholic and alcohol free drinks.

I always enjoy eating with umami, but last time I had an unpleasant experience. In addition to my favorite dish and a glass of Pinot Gris, I asked for a glass of drinking water. “We won’t,” is the waitress’s dry, snappy reply. At this point I have two options for next time: 1) drink from the toilet sink 2) go somewhere else.

We just ended up here by chance and didn't regret the stop. Great food, affordable and friendly service, what more could you want? We will come back.

Part of a family chain of an Asian Fusion restaurant, Umami never disappoints! Located on Bergmannstrasse, this location, like its two sister locations in Berlin, is in the heart of a favorite Berlin hot spot.

I had a delicious poularde, crispy and generously served, the setting is lovely, prices decent. I was very happy with my dinner at Umami.

How this restaurant have received so good reviews is beyond me. Be prepared to get everything – cocktails, starters and main courses – at once. We ordered scallops (very good) and fried scampi with a “pancake” (good but nothing to write home about) as starters. The crispy chicken in a curry was good, but again, nothing to rave about. The grilled duck proved so tough that it was impossible to eat. When we complained and also pointed out that the dish lacked some of the vegetables that were supposed to be in it, one waiter came with a big knife and the other with a bowl with the missing vegetables. They totally missed the point. We sent back the dish but we had to argue to have them take it off the bill. We had expected much, much more and we were sorely disappointed. There is so much better food to be had and unfortunately I cannot recommend this place despite the tempting name.

Were there for lunch. Just perfect - very tasty menu. I don't think you can go wrong with Umami. So far I only knew the Umami P-Berg. But here in X-Berg it clearly tastes just as good.

Dishes are tasty , l had number 17. With salmon , vegetables, noodles ,and shrimps in it. lt was huge and very tasty. 13,60;for the meal. Atmosphere is nice cozy and a little bit dark for me

The salad was swimming in a completely over-seasoned sauce. The dish of the day (fish) was mediocre at best, you had to look for vegetables, the rice was too soft, and everything was served carelessly in a bowl. The pineapple mint shake was the only good thing, but at €6 it was overpriced for the quantity. Price-performance significantly below my usual standard. I'm not coming back.

My favorite vietnamese restaurant in the WORLD. I have lived and travelled across many countries and continents. But the wonton soup here remains unmatched, other dishes are impeccable, service warm and friendly and the vietnamese coffee never disappoints. If you're in Berlin and you don't visit this place you should be arrested! I went 3 times in 5 days.

Had a lunch menu. Very decent portion for the price (8.5 euro), where as most of the dishes on the menu is 13.9 euro. You can choose from chicken or tofu and salad or soup. Recommend if you only want fusion Asian food.

I used to go to this restaurant often. Was content. But now I was very shocked by the quality of the food. I can understand that in order to have meals ready quickly and served quickly, you have to prepare the sauces, for example. However, there are a few main reasons why I definitely cannot recommend this restaurant: 1. I ordered red curry with tofu. The coconut milk sauce was lukewarm, the tofu was cold and the sauce was over-sweetened. 2. This is the first Asian restaurant that doesn't have real soy sauce. These ordinary condiments were not placed on the tables inside, so soy sauce was brought to me at my request. However, it was so incredibly diluted and added a lot of sugar that I felt like I was in the wrong movie... 3. My partner ordered a large bowl of soup. There were three significant impacts on the edges of the bowl. Where, if the rest had been correct, one could actually turn a blind eye. Unfortunately, that's too many points. We both didn't finish the meal completely, paid disappointedly and were happy to be out of this restaurant that was completely undeserving and had us as guests. There is a lot of love in many details in the commitment of the entrepreneur who runs a restaurant. That is definitely not the case here.

As travellers coming all the way from Hong Kong, we love the Super Sea Bowl and Golden Crispy Duck. They are super asian and delicious. While the summer rice roll is normal.

Very atmospheric place and amazing dishes! Everything is done in the style of Asian cuisine, including serving and utensils. There is a separate corner for visitors, who like to eat while sitting on the floor/pillows. Very strong aroma from oriental sticks, some may not like it... The menu is large, everyone will find something interesting for themselves))) We took the Family Menu. Tea is a separate story about aesthetics🌸 The prices are worthy of this restaurant! But, as usual in Berlin, drinks cost almost as much as a full meal)))

One of my favorite restaurants❤️

I rarely review restaurants (positive or negative), but this time I took the time! There were two hairs in my dish, I quietly asked the waiter about it and showed him the hairs in the food. The waiter took my dish away, but there was no apology. Of course we lost our appetite and my husband couldn't eat any more either! When we asked for the bill, we charged the full amount (including the dish with the hair, of which I only ate a few bites). 10% discount was offered even after our surprise! How sad... Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the store due to the service.

The food was incredibly delicious. The traditional Phô soup in particular was strong in contrast to other Phô's, which are rather thin and watery. The soup was flavorful and the beef was tender. The salmon dish was rich in quality vegetables. The salmon was cooked perfectly. Rice was tasty, not overcooked like many places. Prices are reasonable and the service is attentive. There was rather loud music inside so we sat outside. Overall it was a very nice experience. We'd love to come back.

This is my favorite Asian on Mehrigndamm!! Price-performance ratio is simply TOP!! The starters and main courses are simply fantastic and you don't have to wait long for your food. I always enjoy coming back ❤️

The Umami restaurant convinced us in terms of culinary delights! Each dish was a masterpiece, prepared with fresh ingredients and great attention to detail. The flavor combinations were creative and harmonious, making every bite a real taste experience. We were particularly blown away by the [name of a special dish] – simply heavenly! If you appreciate excellent food, you should definitely visit Umami. Highly Recommended!

The place has very strong vibe of Asia. Details of interior are perfect. However regarding food i would say that it is just a proper Vietnamese kitchen good but nothing particularly special. Probably changed a bit to satisfy touristic tastes. Also, nearly every dish is more or less spicy ( for me advantage ).
