Umami in Berlin

A very nice restaurant with a great outdoor area. The iced tea and main course were delicious, and the service was very attentive and friendly.

Excellent, mega tasty and worth a visit at any time

Sit on the floor! This is a completely different (dining) experience. You feel like you're in your own living room. To eat: Summer rolls were a bit boring because of the filling. Tofu didn't really come through in terms of taste. But the dip was great and my mango salad with seitab also tasted fantastic. The chicken dish (Golden…) was also a 10/10. And very lush!

We had a really delicious meal here for dinner. The highlight for us was that we sat on the floor instead of in the large room. What was particularly convincing was the generous and warm food. Thanks :)

Had Lunch on a Saturday, we were three people. Place wasn’t packed, the food was great and arrived quickly. Portion size looked rather small, but was enough for all of us. Coming back!

Every time I'm here, I'm fascinated by how beautiful the restaurant is. The atmosphere is sociable and great. And even though there is always a lot going on, I always like to come back. The employees are nice and the food is super tasty. Even the toilets are nicely decorated. If you are in Berlin the place is a must and I can recommend it to everyone.

Food was quite good. Dumplings and summer rolls were a bit over-seasoned. The main course, however (numbers 16 and 19) was a bit too weak. There was a lot of food and the service was great!

We were guests on site on a beautiful sunny Saturday in February. Basically a nice menu with lots of delicious dishes and homemade drinks. Unfortunately, in our opinion, the rice wasn't really grainy but rather a mass - the bowls are really generous portions and therefore great value for money. All the dishes were really delicious!

A very good restaurant with excellent food! The ambience is actually quite nicely done! But it was way too full for me! Nothing could be done without a reservation! The whole thing didn't invite you to linger any longer! You ate and were somehow happy to be out again! Simply because it was so full and therefore loud. But the food was absolutely excellent.

Good food, bad service. Although we really enjoyed everything, we asked a few questions and one of the employees gave us ridiculous answers, as if we were Asian.

It was our first time at Umami on Knaackstrasse. On Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. all tables were occupied - good thing we had reserved! The interior of the restaurant is rustic; surprisingly, you sit quite comfortably at table benches on stools with cushions. Despite the many guests, the food we ordered came very quickly. The service was friendly and attentive. We tried several starters, the scallops and dumplings were particularly delicious. The duck No. 20 was tasty and tender. Deep Gold Beef No.18 was the perfect main course for me because the portion isn't too big. It impressed with its combination of thin, juicy slices of beef as well as mango and fresh herbs. The price-performance ratio is excellent!

Dear team! We live in Kiez for 15 years and witnessed your (rightly) successful opening in 2014 live. We were there often. It was very good. The service, the team, the food. The fact that it hasn't been good for years is our taste. We haven't been happy to come here for about 7 years. Also because of the risk to our health. Otherwise, I will continue to tell everyone: everywhere, but not to umami! You'll get food poisoning there. Best regards

Very nice location… the food came incredibly quickly, but the service was really sad. Sad because: No asking if everything is okay and no “thank you” (for the tip) or farewell when paying. Too bad.

Don’t eat here. I don’t know why the other location is so different from the Pberg one quality wise. This location offers dishes with absolutely 0 taste, no flavours (as in super super bland) and often colder than it should be. The texture of the ingredients was also oddly super off. We ordered a bunch of entrees/ dishes, the bill was almost 70€ for two people and only the smoothies were tasty. To top it off, flies won’t leave you alone during your entire meal if you sit outside which is never a good sign…

Great food-price quality. As a starter, we had shrimp dumplings with kimchi („6. Hoi An’s Riches“). 🥟 As a main course, we opted for curry with chicken and rice, accompanied by soup or salad (we chose soup) from the week‘s menu. 🍛 We also had hot tea to warm ourselves up. 🍵 We enjoyed the food. Perfect for lunch or dinner. The slight downside was the long wait time to place an order while the restaurant was almost empty. Suggestion to the restaurant: offer a teapot for those who want to share tea (rather than only serving a cup each).

About “over-hyped” and very popular, but not again for me. More hype than good food with casual service

We have been to this great restaurant several times during our stays in Berlin and are always thrilled. The young, dynamic staff tops everything we have experienced in Asian gastronomy in recent years. Food and drinks are therefore a culinary delight

The Red Curry bowl was mediocre. The waiter was not allowed to serve me tap water. Profit over care. I did enjoy sitting in the carpeted area with my shoes off, though.

I was here two years ago and had completely different expectations as my last visit was great - I rated it 5/5. Unfortunately, it's hard to compare now. The starters were served 3 minutes after ordering, even before the drinks were brought. Then the main course came immediately. The food was quite bland and unexpressive. I was expecting something completely different. There wasn't a moment to really enjoy the atmosphere of the place - everything happened far too quickly, more like a fast food restaurant. There was no need to order a bottle of wine as at this rate a single glass of service would have sufficed. Too bad.

Two years ago I was at Umami at Schlesisches Tor. It was a wonderful experience... But now a big disappointment. The appetizers came immediately after ordering, the drinks only afterwards. While the prawn dumplings were delicious, the main course, which was also served so quickly, was bland... the noodles were sticky. My husband and I were very disappointed.

In terms of service, it really leaves nothing to be desired, a waitress who takes things by I don't know what and she was lucky that I don't really know how to express myself in English! The cocktails on the other hand are great, it must be said what is true!

Very nice and authentic restaurant! I can recommend dish number 19 and if you like mango you should eat the dish with beef fillet tips and mango. So give it a try, it's worth it!

Even though the place is well taken care of, it is hard to catch a breath due to poor ventilation. I had a pho, the taste was good, but with very little beef, majority was filled with noodles. Also all herbs were already mixed.

Super tasty Vietnamese where it's worth waiting a few minutes until a table is available if necessary. The food is really unique.

I was there for a team dinner with 5 colleagues. The table and stools are a bit narrow (for me personally, nothing where you can sit for a long time), but☝️the food was really, really good!!!! And I really liked the atmosphere too. Of course the service was also good - very friendly and quick. 😊

Lived the theme of the restaurant. It was very original with great foods and drink options. The pho was a good portion, although I think the base could have been better, with more toppings on side will help. Service was really good and fast....

When we picked it up, a bag was handed to us. After a short time the sauce leaked out of the bottom dish and the bag tore, all 3 dishes fell to the floor. When confronted with the store this was denied. Service looks absolutely different. The communication in the store is really sad and has had nothing to do with friendliness even when eating there. It's definitely worth spending more money and looking for a high-quality restaurant.

I've eaten at Umami several times. The interesting ambience can somewhat disguise the canteen handling. You always tell yourself that you can tolerate the disinterested and unfriendly staff because the food is quite good. Since I didn't feel like the cold shoulder and being ignored today, I ordered 3 dishes to take away. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't seal the package for the bottom dish properly, so all the sauce spilled into the bag and into my car. I noticed this when I was lifting it out, when the wet bag tore open at the bottom and the unsealed package was completely spread out on the floor and the other two fell down too. I then called the restaurant and explained the problem. Unfortunately there was 0.0 insight and I was accused of playing basketball with the bag on the way. Anywhere else you would have gotten a meal on the house on your next visit, but at Umami, service and friendliness are foreign concepts.

Unfortunately, one star is still too many here. The salad wasn't fresh and the rice was cold. The service is completely inattentive and is only interested in the table when it comes to the bill. In general it is reminiscent of mass processing.

My son (10 years old) had on October 14th. Ate in the Umami Burger. During the night my son vomited violently and developed a high fever of 40 degrees. This was followed by 10 very bad days with terrible diarrhea every 10 minutes. During this time he lost 7 kg. We were on the verge of being admitted to the hospital several times. A doctor we paid privately saved us this thanks to a home visit. By the way, I also tried 2 bites of this burger and lay flat for 2 days with the same symptoms. At first I couldn't believe that Umami, my former favorite shop, could actually have anything to do with it. The fact is: None of our friends, and we met a few people before, had symptoms and we always ate the same food with others. Since Umami's reaction was very disappointing, I contacted the health department and searched online for people who had similar experiences. And I found what I was looking for. I know of 2 other people who also died on October 14th. were in the umami that they caught salmonella. and two other people contacted me and reported similar experiences after a visit to Umami. This place is SERIOUSLY a must-go. The entire place is lit up with these gorgeous lanterns, the atmosphere is beautiful, it’s always decorated for the season, and THE FOOD is INCREDIBLE!!! So affordable and it comes to your table less than 10 minutes after ordering, even when they’re busy. 5/5 on everything, this is my favourite place in Prenzlauer Berg!!!!🤯🤯🤯

Umami came highly recommended by two friends who absolutely loved it, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Everything we ordered was delicious, and while the service could have been better, the food and the atmosphere made it all worthwhile. The price is on the higher side, but I still highly recommend giving it a try—the flavors are truly worth it!

I had the shaolin bowl as always. Tastes like a middle eastern fusion meal. Seitan is really good tofu I didn't like as much though.

Very tasty food! As a vegan, I found a wide range of scrumptious vegan dishes. You might need to wait for 15-20 minutes to be seated in rush hour, but other than that it’s one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Berlin.

This place is nice and the food is very good but today we learned that the allergen information written on the menu is not accurate. I was going to order a dish that was gluten-free according to the menu but the waiter told us that the information written on the menu was wrong. We complained and explained him that this Summer I ordered that dish because it was supposed to be gluten free and that they should update the menu. He said we should always ask him and informed us that they only print the menus once a year. My suggestion is they should take in consideration the allergens more seriously. It is better to have no allergen information at all that to have misleading information.

Lovely pho, dumplings & cocktails to die for!

We ordered the curry with pumpkin and tofu twice and unfortunately the tofu in both cases was not edible. The pieces were too big and it was like biting into a wet, tasteless sponge 😅 We then put it aside and only ate the noodles with the curry.

I simply cannot believe how unbelievably tasty the sweet potato fries were. The food came very quickly, all delicious. I ordered aloe vera drink which was very refreshing and what’s more important - incredibly tasty. I can recommend everyone, who is interested in eating excellent food, to pay a visit at this restaurant.

Great atmosphere in the middle of Prenzlauer Berg. The food is average and has normal prices. But it didn't blow us away. There are a lot of staff in the store but it feels a bit like mass processing. You can pay by card here. You should make a reservation, especially in winter.

Simply chaotic. Got yelled at by the “host” simply for asking how and where to queue because there were over 20 people waiting and I was just being told to wait repeatedly. Seriously, get your system in order before you yell at people for simply pointing out that you are terribly disorganized

The beef was ice cold, so not freshly prepared. The dessert promised as a surprise in the menu for two people was only available upon request. But it was a surprise: there was a dessert with 2 spoons!

Yesterday I visited there with my friend. Food is very tasty and good atmosphere. But, there i saw a thing that was heart touching. That was a wolt rider come for pickup delivery and he saw food was not ready and wait outside around 15 minutes but when he go inside and asked when food will ready then restaurant staff started talk in rude behaviour maybe they do not have any humanity toward riders whose playing a crucial role deliver food from restaurant to customer in every weather situation.

Listless staff, spring rolls lukewarm and dry, both main courses drowned in sauce, the worst are the rancid smelling clay bowls in which the food is served and the toilet area. So there are so many other Vietnamese/Indochinese. Restaurants in Berlin, you can skip that.

It’s a beautiful place. Love the interior. They have a beautiful seating on the floor. Food is also delicious. Staffs were friendly. It’s located in a nice location too. Overall I’m very much satisfied with this restaurant visit.

The place has great food. Very tasty vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Both outdoor and indoor seating.

They refuse to serve tap water, and force people to consume bottled water. No care for the environment over a few pennies. It's okay to charge for tap water, especially if money is so tight but don't force your climiate negligence onto the guests. Join the movement and give all such greedy, careless establishments an appropriate rating. Also the food is okay, nothing special compared to other viet options in the area.

We couldn't go into the restaurant with our dog - in Friedrichhain without a problem. In P-Berg we should put our Shar-Pei dog in the corner. After such a nice welcome, we chose another restaurant... It's a shame ☹️

My favorite Asian restaurant in Berlin! Quite a large menu, very fast service and great food. A huge plus for me is that the selection of vegetarian dishes is the same as those with meat, which is very rare.

I really love this restaurant. Went for a solo meal a few days ago and got my food super quickly. Portions are large (at least for the phō) and affordable. I also love that they have a shoes off, cushion seating area. Great menu and lots of options. Also good wine!

The place is great, the ambience is great. Food, well... so I expected more. Both friends found the meat so hard that they left it lying around. But the price is quite high, €130 for three people, nothing special. Condition: the women are very friendly, the men not so much. From 10 p.m. onwards, the neighbors throw nuts at you. Not again.

Just ordered through Wolt. Food consists almost entirely of noodles and the portion is tiny. It used to be one of my favorite shops in Prenzlberg. What I'm eating here is ridiculous...

Complete idiots who try to rely on traditional food but can't manage it (Food was over salted, raw vegetables not edible)

My dinner was spoiled. Despite having a reservation, I have to wait. The table next to the door was quite loud and cold. The food was ok but very bad service. The little boy can't understand what I want. German language is normal in every restaurant but English is no better for them either. I got the wrong food. Then I have to wait for the right food while the others are already ready. Afterwards the waitress wanted to get a tip.

I orderd a home made lemonade and I was very thirsty so I waited but they gave me Ice tea instead so I asked them for fanta or sprite but they didn't have them either so I ordered a glass of juice with gas but it never arrived so I reminded them and they finally delivered it, but it isn't over because it was without gas unlike how I ordered it!
