Umami in Berlin

Even though the place is well taken care of, it is hard to catch a breath due to poor ventilation. I had a pho, the taste was good, but with very little beef, majority was filled with noodles. Also all herbs were already mixed.

Super tasty Vietnamese where it's worth waiting a few minutes until a table is available if necessary. The food is really unique.

I was there for a team dinner with 5 colleagues. The table and stools are a bit narrow (for me personally, nothing where you can sit for a long time), but☝️the food was really, really good!!!! And I really liked the atmosphere too. Of course the service was also good - very friendly and quick. 😊

The food was absolutely decadent. Every spoonful tantalized the pallet. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again when I return to Berlin.

Lived the theme of the restaurant. It was very original with great foods and drink options. The pho was a good portion, although I think the base could have been better, with more toppings on side will help. Service was really good and fast....

When we picked it up, a bag was handed to us. After a short time the sauce leaked out of the bottom dish and the bag tore, all 3 dishes fell to the floor. When confronted with the store this was denied. Service looks absolutely different. The communication in the store is really sad and has had nothing to do with friendliness even when eating there. It's definitely worth spending more money and looking for a high-quality restaurant.

Unfortunately, one star is still too many here. The salad wasn't fresh and the rice was cold. The service is completely inattentive and is only interested in the table when it comes to the bill. In general it is reminiscent of mass processing.

I've eaten at Umami several times. The interesting ambience can somewhat disguise the canteen handling. You always tell yourself that you can tolerate the disinterested and unfriendly staff because the food is quite good. Since I didn't feel like the cold shoulder and being ignored today, I ordered 3 dishes to take away. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't seal the package for the bottom dish properly, so all the sauce spilled into the bag and into my car. I noticed this when I was lifting it out, when the wet bag tore open at the bottom and the unsealed package was completely spread out on the floor and the other two fell down too. I then called the restaurant and explained the problem. Unfortunately there was 0.0 insight and I was accused of playing basketball with the bag on the way. Anywhere else you would have gotten a meal on the house on your next visit, but at Umami, service and friendliness are foreign concepts.

Cozy, excellent service, friendly staff, clear menu and lots of choice. Highly recommended!

My son (10 years old) had on October 14th. Ate in the Umami Burger. During the night my son vomited violently and developed a high fever of 40 degrees. This was followed by 10 very bad days with terrible diarrhea every 10 minutes. During this time he lost 7 kg. We were on the verge of being admitted to the hospital several times. A doctor we paid privately saved us this thanks to a home visit. By the way, I also tried 2 bites of this burger and lay flat for 2 days with the same symptoms. At first I couldn't believe that Umami, my former favorite shop, could actually have anything to do with it. The fact is: None of our friends, and we met a few people before, had symptoms and we always ate the same food with others. Since Umami's reaction was very disappointing, I contacted the health department and searched online for people who had similar experiences. And I found what I was looking for. I know of 2 other people who also died on October 14th. were in the umami that they caught salmonella. and two other people contacted me and reported similar experiences after a visit to Umami. Always quick, friendly and tasty. Nice place for lunch or dinner. I was never disappointed here.

This place is SERIOUSLY a must-go. The entire place is lit up with these gorgeous lanterns, the atmosphere is beautiful, it’s always decorated for the season, and THE FOOD is INCREDIBLE!!! So affordable and it comes to your table less than 10 minutes after ordering, even when they’re busy. 5/5 on everything, this is my favourite place in Prenzlauer Berg!!!!🤯🤯🤯

Umami came highly recommended by two friends who absolutely loved it, and it definitely lived up to the hype! Everything we ordered was delicious, and while the service could have been better, the food and the atmosphere made it all worthwhile. The price is on the higher side, but I still highly recommend giving it a try—the flavors are truly worth it!

I had the shaolin bowl as always. Tastes like a middle eastern fusion meal. Seitan is really good tofu I didn't like as much though.

Very tasty food! As a vegan, I found a wide range of scrumptious vegan dishes. You might need to wait for 15-20 minutes to be seated in rush hour, but other than that it’s one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Berlin.

This place is nice and the food is very good but today we learned that the allergen information written on the menu is not accurate. I was going to order a dish that was gluten-free according to the menu but the waiter told us that the information written on the menu was wrong. We complained and explained him that this Summer I ordered that dish because it was supposed to be gluten free and that they should update the menu. He said we should always ask him and informed us that they only print the menus once a year. My suggestion is they should take in consideration the allergens more seriously. It is better to have no allergen information at all that to have misleading information.

Lovely pho, dumplings & cocktails to die for!

We ordered the curry with pumpkin and tofu twice and unfortunately the tofu in both cases was not edible. The pieces were too big and it was like biting into a wet, tasteless sponge 😅 We then put it aside and only ate the noodles with the curry.

I simply cannot believe how unbelievably tasty the sweet potato fries were. The food came very quickly, all delicious. I ordered aloe vera drink which was very refreshing and what’s more important - incredibly tasty. I can recommend everyone, who is interested in eating excellent food, to pay a visit at this restaurant.

Great food-price quality. As a starter, we had shrimp dumplings with kimchi („6. Hoi An’s Riches“). 🥟 As a main course, we opted for curry with chicken and rice, accompanied by soup or salad (we chose soup) from the week‘s menu. 🍛 We also had hot tea to warm ourselves up. 🍵 We enjoyed the food. Perfect for lunch or dinner. The slight downside was the long wait time to place an order while the restaurant was almost empty. Suggestion: offer a teapot for those who want to share tea (rather than only serving a cup each).

Great atmosphere in the middle of Prenzlauer Berg. The food is average and has normal prices. But it didn't blow us away. There are a lot of staff in the store but it feels a bit like mass processing. You can pay by card here. You should make a reservation, especially in winter.

Hey everyone. Top service. Top food. Top ambience. All in all a perfect package for eating out. After about 15 minutes the food was at the table. Everything was super friendly and nice. It's worth an experience.

Simply chaotic. Got yelled at by the “host” simply for asking how and where to queue because there were over 20 people waiting and I was just being told to wait repeatedly. Seriously, get your system in order before you yell at people for simply pointing out that you are terribly disorganized

The beef was ice cold, so not freshly prepared. The dessert promised as a surprise in the menu for two people was only available upon request. But it was a surprise: there was a dessert with 2 spoons!

Yesterday I visited there with my friend. Food is very tasty and good atmosphere. But, there i saw a thing that was heart touching. That was a wolt rider come for pickup delivery and he saw food was not ready and wait outside around 15 minutes but when he go inside and asked when food will ready then restaurant staff started talk in rude behaviour maybe they do not have any humanity toward riders whose playing a crucial role deliver food from restaurant to customer in every weather situation.

Listless staff, spring rolls lukewarm and dry, both main courses drowned in sauce, the worst are the rancid smelling clay bowls in which the food is served and the toilet area. So there are so many other Vietnamese/Indochinese. Restaurants in Berlin, you can skip that.

Big portions, reasonable prices. There was a bit too much mint in my dish though.

It’s a beautiful place. Love the interior. They have a beautiful seating on the floor. Food is also delicious. Staffs were friendly. It’s located in a nice location too. Overall I’m very much satisfied with this restaurant visit.

The place has great food. Very tasty vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Both outdoor and indoor seating.

They refuse to serve tap water, and force people to consume bottled water. No care for the environment over a few pennies. It's okay to charge for tap water, especially if money is so tight but don't force your climiate negligence onto the guests. Join the movement and give all such greedy, careless establishments an appropriate rating. Also the food is okay, nothing special compared to other viet options in the area.

We couldn't go into the restaurant with our dog - in Friedrichhain without a problem. In P-Berg we should put our Shar-Pei dog in the corner. After such a nice welcome, we chose another restaurant... It's a shame ☹️

My favorite Asian restaurant in Berlin! Quite a large menu, very fast service and great food. A huge plus for me is that the selection of vegetarian dishes is the same as those with meat, which is very rare.

If you're in Berlin, this spot is a must-visit. Exceptional food with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options, all crafted with care. Inviting atmosphere and perfect for any occasion. Definitely worth a visit!

I really love this restaurant. Went for a solo meal a few days ago and got my food super quickly. Portions are large (at least for the phō) and affordable. I also love that they have a shoes off, cushion seating area. Great menu and lots of options. Also good wine!

The place is great, the ambience is great. Food, well... so I expected more. Both friends found the meat so hard that they left it lying around. But the price is quite high, €130 for three people, nothing special. Condition: the women are very friendly, the men not so much. From 10 p.m. onwards, the neighbors throw nuts at you. Not again.

Just ordered through Wolt. Food consists almost entirely of noodles and the portion is tiny. It used to be one of my favorite shops in Prenzlberg. What I'm eating here is ridiculous...

Complete idiots who try to rely on traditional food but can't manage it (Food was over salted, raw vegetables not edible)

My dinner was spoiled. Despite having a reservation, I have to wait. The table next to the door was quite loud and cold. The food was ok but very bad service. The little boy can't understand what I want. German language is normal in every restaurant but English is no better for them either. I got the wrong food. Then I have to wait for the right food while the others are already ready. Afterwards the waitress wanted to get a tip.

I orderd a home made lemonade and I was very thirsty so I waited but they gave me Ice tea instead so I asked them for fanta or sprite but they didn't have them either so I ordered a glass of juice with gas but it never arrived so I reminded them and they finally delivered it, but it isn't over because it was without gas unlike how I ordered it!

Long story short: waited 15 minutes WITH RESERVATION, very RUDE waitress, PRESSURED to tip, SPITEFUL waitress for deciding not to tip. For starters, we had a reservation at the restaurant but we had to wait for around 15 minutes to get a table and the waitress was very rude about the whole situation. At the end of the dinner we paid separately and were asked if we wanted to tip (which in general I dislike to be asked, but I do understand the need from the staff and if it is done politely and without trying to pressure the costumer it doesn't bother me, however that was not the case) which I personally said no to because of the way it was asked, to which the waitress asked why and if the service was not good, at that point I got really annoyed but I just said the service was good and just didn't want to tip. My 2 friends tipped and one of them admitted to doing so because of how uncomfortable the situation made her feel. At the end of dinner you are supposed to get a fortune cookie as courtesy, but the waitress only brought 2 saying there were no more and handed them directly to my friends, clearly this was done because I decided not to tip. It is a shame that a restaurant with nice ambience and food is ruined by the lack of care when choosing the customer service staff.

Awesome👍🏽It’s all about the details! The little brother who served us was really cute and caring! One of our mobile phones had no power and asked if it could be charged. He directly took a mobile battery and put it next to us to charge us. He listened to our needs very carefully and patiently and met them. This kind of service is really 5 out of 5 stars. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 There is no doubt that the food is also very delicious! marvelous!

For me it's the best umami in Berlin. But unfortunately it has declined in recent years due to the mass/boom. Nevertheless, it tastes great and I go there several times a year.

I ordered dumplings soup and beef rice. Dumplings were still bit cold inside, while the beef rice was average, not bad. I was sitting outside and there were a lot of flies and wespe which made me want to finish the meal soon and leave immediately

Bad, just bad. No comparison to a few months ago. In principle, food comes before drinks, meaning it is pre-cooked. Not an issue so far because it's hot and tasty. Today, however, it's just a joke. Food is cold, spring rolls taste like vinegar, the salad has no dressing, beef has the consistency of shoe soles, in short it simply cannot be compared with a few months ago. Service has always not been particularly good, but no question as to why I am canceling my reservation for 12 people next Friday, absolutely nothing, no response. There is no bill either, so it is only on the display because you ask for it insistently, also a bit strange.

The price-performance ratio is not right. The food is inferior and overpriced. The service is bad. As soon as you put your fork down after eating, the waiters try to ask you to leave. The chairs are intentionally uncomfortable so that you can leave as quickly as possible.

This place was good before, its quality has long since gone down: overcooked rice, bad service, average hygiene and poorly presented dishes that you don't feel like eating. €25 per person to eat badly and uncomfortable with a non-attentive and rude service that throws your plate on the table and puts their thumb in the rice. Disgusting.

Always good food, especially the burger, drinks and desserts are to die for! The fuller the place, the louder. Anyone who can handle it should enjoy it!

Basic Food Bad Service Impolite staff

Most unfriendly and rushed server ever. Afterwards a tip was demanded by another waitress after we gave her a no and said why, she immediately passed this on to the other waiter who aggressively demanded a reason. Food was okay, but definitely not recommended.

Avoid. Very disappointing tonight. Food well below average and service worse. Two of four mains were truly awful: duck breast overcooked (my partner actually left this) & lamb rack overcooked, edible but accompanying sweetcorn disconcertingly greasy and pale (also no flavour). Sauces on three dishes were alarmingly similar: cloying and way too heavy on oyster sauce. Service was very poor. No one even asked how meal was. Half eaten plates left on the table for 30 mins after we finished. When I finally raised concerns re: standard of mains, waiter left and returned asking how I wanted to pay. I raised concerns again and 10 mins later was told 'the kitchen was happy'. We paid full price and will not return. The restaurant clearly takes us for tourists that will not return. The location and ambience were great tbf, but a shame the kitchen and FOH team could not deliver, at least on our visit.

Basically okay, but not suitable if you want to eat with children. I was here with my little daughter (3) and we sat outside. After asking (repeatedly), we were given a children's chair, which is positive. I ordered the only children's meal that was on the menu. The little one is always allowed to choose a drink in the restaurant and wanted Fanta, but she doesn't run the restaurant. Just Coke (and that's out of the question). The children's food came in a full bowl, of course without children's cutlery. The pieces and slices were so big that the little one could hardly eat them. She has a children's knife at home. So I ordered a knife and made things a little smaller for her. The taste was absolutely fine. If you want to eat out without children, the restaurant is okay. However, you have to have time, because the staff sometimes seem to disappear from the face of the earth and so it took us quite a while before we could order. Once the order was placed, however, things went extremely quickly.

Lovely food. We have been there several times over the years. But we will NEVER come again. When paying, the woman shows us the price of what we have eaten and drunk, and she asks how much we want to pay. We want to pay the amount, but then she very aggressively asks what we want to pay. We say we will pay for what we have eaten and drunk. And so we do. As we prepare to leave the place, the lady comes again. She is aggressive again and asks angrily if the food was bad. Repeatedly. We say the food was fine. And then she is aggressive again and asks why we don't tip. Repeatedly. We get up and leave. And is stared down by the aggressive lady. The food was nice. Drinks came 10 minutes after the food. There was no service otherwise. We didn't tip for it. By the way, we usually leave a little tip in cash when we go. We don't want to be threatened into tipping. So that was the last visit with them. There are many other restaurants that offer similar food.

Sat outside which is very atmospheric. Menu in German and English. Staff very efficient and quick service. A bit abrupt at times as they seemed a bit rushed. Did ask for tap water, which we were given, but when asked for a refill we were told they don’t give tap water out on weekends and the glasses we had were an exception…… That aside the food is excellent and would definitely come back for that. Saw an earlier review that said that there is no alcohol being served - it’s wrong. They have a nice selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.

Small portions, warmed vegetables, high prices.

No Berlin visit without Umami Pberg. THE address for amazing Vietnamese and Viet inspired food. Never had better seitan anywhere and can't recommend enough to try out all the desserts. Their teas are amazing as well! If you come as a family, don't miss the family menu. It's so good! And comes super fast.

Everything is fine but nothing is great. The food was okayish. I ordered the duck for 19.90 euros. It was okay but pretty small and nothing was exciting. The other six I was with reported similar things. Service wasn't anything special either. They weren't very friendly and pushed for drinks quite a bit (the second we were seated, before we got the cards and every 2 minutes after that). We all found that unpleasant. There are much simpler Vietnamese (also in Prenzlauer Berg) who, in my opinion, are simply better with less posturing. But of course it is not advisable.

very creative dishes with numerous vegetarian variations. e.g. very tasty seitan. good prices, the main courses around €12 lots of places and enough and friendly staff. very nice atmosphere in the open space.

Absolut schlechte Bedienung, haben 20 Minuten gewartet das Essen hat nicht geschmeckt und das Ambiente war auch nicht das sauberste. Ich würde keinem empfehlen, dorthin zu gehen. Gleich in der Gegend gibt's genug saubere Restaurants, die auch interessiert daran sind, ihre Kunden zu bedienen und nicht zu ignorieren.

- Super bad service staff, constantly walking past empty plates without clearing them away. I had to ask them several times throughout the evening to clear away plates. - The burger tasted really bad, especially the questionable patty. One bite of rice and left it standing. The cellars don't even ask what happened to the food or show any other interest. - The dessert (black glutinous rice + coconut/mango) was tiny!!! Unlied: 1 tablespoon of rice, the rest is sauce. And that's tough for the price of €6! Don't understand the hip, would definitely not recommend the store. There are 1037 other Asians in Berlin who are way better.

The food was very good, and the atmosphere was quiet and cozy, but I didn't find the service to be particularly considerate (e.g. it was already cleared away while some of us were still eating) and on point (it was often ignored football game distracted, orders were not actively taken). In Kreuzberg there is also an Umami, which I found a little better.

They spent a lot pf money on Interiors , ambiance and Menu design. But the food was really bad. The place is pricy too. Vegetarian dumplings were decent But the Red and Golden curry was so sweet and full of potatoes with really small portions, and was lacking taste.

I had been wanting to try this restaraunt out for quite awhile but I was very disappointed with my order. I ordered #19 with beef and it was these tiny little scraps of grey beef. Looked terrible and was very disappointing. My friend's order looked better and I have seen other dishes there that look good, but mine was pitiful. Location and atmosphere are nice, service was extremely quick but I would be hesitant to go there again.

I’ve always loved this restaurant due to the tasty food and fast service! My only criticism is not being able to order a glass of water. After ordering 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 drinks between 3 of us, mid meal I was told it’s policy to sell water by the bottle. I’d have paid for a glass but a large bottle at the end of the meal was a bit extreme haha..

Not paying attention to the wolt riders and the behaviour is also shameless

Really enjoyed the food and service here. All the dishes ordered had unique and excellent flavors and Good portion sizes. The seitan was beautifully and subtly flavored. I don’t normally eat burgers but the bao bun burger was one of the best things I have ever eaten. Tons of vegetarian choices with very prompt service.
