We didn't eat, we just took advantage of happy hour. Five stars for the bartender.

We had a wonderful evening at Die Ash restaurant in Oberhausen. The food was outstanding – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was also very pleasant and inviting. A special thank you goes to Paula, who looked after us with exceptional friendliness and attentiveness throughout the evening. She was always available without being intrusive, and her warm personality made our visit even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Die Ash!

Yesterday evening, around 5:30 p.m., I spontaneously called the restaurant and was informed that they were fully booked and the wait would be about 30 minutes. However, upon arrival, we were greeted by two employees whose manner was extremely unfriendly and dismissive. A simple, polite greeting would have gone a long way; instead, we were confronted directly and without preamble with, "Do you have a reservation? – No? Then you'll have to wait." Friendliness during initial contact is extremely important and shapes the entire impression, in this case, unfortunately, negatively. While we waited, several guests without reservations were seated ahead of us. Inquiries were met with contradictory answers, even though it was clear that these individuals had also arrived without a reservation. After about an hour, guests who had just arrived were called again. The guest who was called pointed out that we had been waiting considerably longer. No apology or explanation was offered. Our first table was located right by the entrance and was drafty and cold. The waitress, however, reacted very kindly, initially closing the door and then moving us to a vacant table a few minutes later, which we found very thoughtful. The subsequent service was also excellent: drinks and food arrived promptly, and we enjoyed the meal.

The food was okay, but the price wasn't right. The service was also rather difficult. You sit in a draft, and the upstairs area is completely empty... That's just how it is. A shame.

Ordered a cheeseburger with fries and, quite honestly, it was one of the worst restaurant-style burgers I've ever had. The combination was completely messed up, the meat flavor was barely there, the patty was partly overcooked and not at all juicy. I don't understand the sauce; the description says it comes with aioli on a cheeseburger. I mean, okay, my own interpretation and all, but it just didn't fit and there was always a bit of an aftertaste in between... topped off by that first surprise bite, see picture. That was something new, too 🙃 Steakhouse fries were quite okay. They were so light, I thought they were almost unfried. But they were relatively thin, so they were okay. Mayo was homemade. Overall: first and last time. Especially for the prices, there are countless better places nearby, and I can't make sense of the skewer thing either. Shouldn't it have been on the outside of the burger in the package? Luckily, I didn't bite harder on the other, thinner side.

Unfortunately, the wait for food is always very long. While all the other tables get their food quickly, we've been waiting for 1.5 hours already. They bring drinks quickly and are always right there to take orders...

Had a very nice evening here, maybe not the best experience I ever had, but nothing to complain.

The food was okay, but it took a long time to arrive. The waiters were constantly overwhelmed, hectic, and disorganized. The upper floor was so crowded that at a small table for two, you actually had to shout at each other to be heard. A shame—I'd rather go to Oberhausen.

Since the last time I came, they've cut the vegan menu in half. And they don't have any decent options for starters or desserts. Too bad! Still, the dish I chose was very good.

Absolute scam! Online, they said they offer 'all you can eat' spare ribs on Thursdays, but we couldn't take advantage of the offer in person because they already had enough customers. We weren't served for a long time and had to grab menus from other tables.

Unfortunately, our visit to The ASH Essen was disappointing. Despite friendly advance notice that it might take a bit longer, we had to wait a very long time for both drinks and food. My dish was only lukewarm, as was my partner's burger, while the fries were piping hot. The salad also didn't seem fresh. What I found particularly disappointing was that my plate was simply cleared away, even though more than half of the food was still on it. I would have liked to take it with me, but I couldn't react quickly because the server had already placed the other plate on top. A few things also went wrong when paying – we received the wrong bill several times. It's a shame, the ambiance is really nice, but the service and quality should be significantly improved.

Terrible service, it took them over an hour to bring us the meat and it was also cold, very expensive for what you get!! Unprofessional. We will not return of course!! They don't even remove the plates when serving coffee, truly disappointing.

If you go, I recommend coming full, because by the time your order arrives, you'll definitely be hungry again. The service is absurdly slow.

The best rose steak I've ever eaten

Six of us went for dinner together. Everyone's food was excellent, but it was also quite expensive. The service seemed overwhelmed and wasn't always attentive. The atmosphere was generally pleasant, but it was very loud—first from the guests, then from the even louder music, making it extremely difficult to have a pleasant conversation at the table. I would only recommend it when the place isn't too busy.

Steaks were insanely good, but still a very disappointing experience because of 1 waiter: The gentleman with glasses that was mostly serving outside, was very hasty. We both wanted to order the same thing, so my girlfriend let me say it. This man didn’t want to hear it, turned his back to me and only wanted to listen to my girlfriend. When she was ordering, he would litteraly get irritated if she didn’t answer within 2 seconds. After, when paying, he got angry when i didn’t tip because of his rude way of taking orders. Very very unprofessional. I’m sorry to the owners of the restaurant for this review, but I had to speak my mind.

We went to dinner with colleagues on a Tuesday evening. We didn't book, but a table for two was available right away. When the waiter came to take our order, we weren't ready, so we just ordered drinks. The drinks sat on the counter for a good half hour before we pointed this out to another waitress, who finally served us our drinks (we ordered a Coke and water, which arrived without glasses, so we had to get up and ask). Before we could order our food, another half hour passed, and maybe another hour before the sandwich and steak we ordered arrived. Unfortunately, we weren't very happy with either the service or the food: the 300g steak was maybe half the weight, €5 or so for two spinach balls seems a bit excessive, the fries were very mediocre, like those from a frozen supermarket bag, and the coleslaw was served almost frozen inside the sandwich, not to mention the fact that it wasn't quite like the original coleslaw. When we asked for the bill, we were also asked for a tip, and when we asked for a receipt, we were given someone else's. One last note: be prepared to leave the restaurant with clothes that smell like smoke...

Older restaurant. My wife got chicken wings twice that were cold, or rather undercooked.

A dead ringer. Mediocre food, nicely packaged, and sold at a high price. We were there with 10 people, so I can understand why it took longer. But 1.5 hours from ordering to the food being on the table is pretty steep when the restaurant is empty. When we ordered, maybe 3 tables were occupied. But the really annoying thing is that we weren't asked the entire time if everything was okay or if we wanted more drinks. That was annoying. The steak was okay, but to be honest, it was a bit streaky, even tough in places, more medium to medium-well even though we ordered medium-rare, but given that wait time, I didn't feel like waiting again. The fries were very good, and the ambiance is really nice, too. The service was quite nice when it was there. When paying, they asked if we could wait. If they said no (we were just a bit annoyed by then and wanted to go home), they didn't even say thank you for the tip, but instead ran away straight away. That wasn't very friendly either... For this price, mid-upper class or whatever you want to call it, it's definitely not good enough. We won't be back.

We ate two burgers here, which both looked and tasted great. I definitely recommend them. The service was super attentive and friendly/accommodating. My only criticism, which is why I only gave them three points for the service, was that the waiter had his thumb in his plate while serving, which is a no-go for me, but if you want something good, definitely try it.

I've been there several times now. They even made an effort to accommodate requests that weren't on the menu. I can recommend the beef fillet. I'd be happy to come back.

The food was delicious and met all expectations. This almost upscale restaurant actually deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, I have to deduct one star because the waiter wasn't very fluent in German. The very friendly and courteous waiter couldn't give me any information about a fish dish or apparently didn't understand me due to insufficient language skills. That's not a big deal, but a definite negative. If I'm spending €50 or more on a meal, I want to be given appropriate advice if I have questions or special requests. All in all, it's absolutely worth recommending. It should also be noted that this lack of communication is unlikely to keep me, as a well-off customer, permanently loyal to a restaurant, which isn't in the best interest of the company's policy.

We had a date night. And we saw this lovely place. A lovely atmosphere with very friendly staff, very clean, and the food was really plentiful and delicious. We were absolutely stuffed. The prices are on the high side, but if you try the burger menu, it's very affordable. I recommend it for a nice dinner out for a date night.

We had two burgers and two drinks and ended up paying €75!!! If you ask for spicy sauce, they even charge extra. Honestly, it’s not worth the price so sorry

The food took over an hour, the waiter was so-so (didn't thank us for the tip), the drinks took about 20 minutes and we were constantly asked for money by homeless people who also put a lot of strain on our sense of smell

I regularly visit but whoever made my T-bone on the 26.07.2025 around 9pm, you deserve a gold medal, the best I have ever had. Delicious dessert. Wide variety from starter to dessert to drinks. Friendly and good service. Love sitting inside, outside is slightly busy for me, it’s in the city but in a calmer place. Paid Parking on the street is available about 25-50 meters from the restaurant.

The beef fillet was delicious, and the side fries were finely portioned and crispy. The atmosphere is super relaxed and cozy.

We're a bit disappointed today, unfortunately. We've been here twice this week. On Wednesday, the waiter was simply fantastic and super friendly (a tall, slim man with glasses). He handled complaints about the food very well and didn't let our chaotic group get him down. However, today the waiter (a shorter, dark-haired man) was very unfriendly and disinterested. The food is fantastic, but when the waiter makes you feel like he's not in the mood and we're not welcome, it's just no fun. So we cut our planned evening short and went somewhere else.

Reservations recommended. Excellent service and delicious food. Lovely ambiance. We like to sit on the first floor.

The medium-rare cooking level wasn't quite right – it was medium-well. The meat was good quality, though. The herb butter tasted extremely like wild garlic, and the sour cream on the baked potato was inedible. Only the tuna tartare as an appetizer was okay.

The steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, as requested. The ambiance and service were also excellent. All in all, a successful visit.

Ok restaurant with good service.

The food is good but unfortunately a bit overpriced. Perhaps there are too few staff for the number of guests, which is why the service suffers. One star for the ambiance because we sat near the ventilation or the drain, which smelled strongly whenever the wind blew in our direction.

We had a double cheese bacon burger 🍔 and a watermelon salad 🍉. The burger was good, perfectly cooked, and the steakhouse fries on the side were crispy and very tasty. The watermelon salad was fresh, tasty, and the perfect portion 👍🏻 The ambiance outside is okay, but not great. Lots of foot traffic. Overall, though, it was good.

We had a truffle burger and steak salad, which we weren't particularly impressed with. The burger had almost no flavor; it was very bland with everything else. My salad was drowned in the sweet dressing. The asparagus on top was a bit hard. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that we couldn't stomach the food. I don't need to go into detail...

So a really cool tidy and well organized shop where the food tastes really delicious and the ambience and service are also great

A very stylishly decorated chain restaurant with well-trained and friendly service. I've been here twice for the sirloin steak as a lunch deal. The price-performance ratio is unbeatable. However, the second time I had it (medium rare), the steak was slightly undercooked on one side, which is why it was still almost raw. Even cooking of the steak could be improved. The side dishes of asparagus and herb butter are also delicious. I recommend trying the lunch deal or coming in the evening.

The dessert was delicious and the presentation was very good. The prices were above average, but the taste and appearance were impressive. I had a "Tom Collins" cocktail. Recommended for someone looking for something stronger and less fruity. Not ideal for vegetarians, but as the name suggests, it is a steakhouse. The service was very friendly, and we were warmly welcomed and served. Overall, I recommend the place, but you'll have to dig a little deeper into your pockets. It's worth it, though. I'll definitely come back a second time.

Does not keep his appointments. Food was only served after 1.5 hours. A big chaos in the kitchen. And agreements were made with the manager for our large group. Only staff did not know anything. Since we had to pay separately, a very large amount remained open. So they will never see us there again. Unfortunately, they could not handle the crowds. My advice, find another restaurant if you are in Essen.

In itself fine food, but that a table only got food after an hour and a half after the first table (where the children up to 12 years old were sitting) and the dessert also took quite a long time is not acceptable. After the meal the bill came. Despite clear agreements made earlier with the manager because (we came there with almost 100 people), we were surprised with extra costs. The payment system also did not work as it should. Because of this it took more than 45 minutes for everyone to pay. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here!

What a disaster. Our group of 80 people had agreed on a fixed menu months in advance, with an average price of €22 per dish. But what we got was far from that... I waited 1.5 hours for my meal—and I was lucky, because others had to wait even longer! On top of that, there was only one vegetarian option. Then came the bill. Not only were we charged for tap water we never ordered, but sides like potatoes and gravy suddenly turned out to be extra. We ended up paying at least €8 more per person, which adds up to over €600 in outright rip-off! And as if that wasn’t bad enough, there were items on our bill that we never ordered. To make matters worse, the cashier was completely incompetent. My order had to be re-entered three times, as if she didn’t know what she was doing. It all felt very suspicious, like I was being forced to pay without anything actually being deducted from the bill. And the cherry on top? The next day, multiple people in our group suffered from stomach problems. Apparently, food hygiene is not a priority here. This restaurant is a DISGRACE. Deceptive practices, terrible service, and possibly unsafe food. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else!

We went for a birthday dinner today. The reception was very friendly. Then it started. Two drinks were delivered incorrectly. It wasn't possible to switch from one side dish to another. Unfortunately, they were very inflexible. I've experienced better results at other restaurants. The meat was cooked perfectly, but the food was only lukewarm. It's a shame considering the price. There's still room for improvement. Whether we'll be back is questionable.

After being very disappointed with the location in Oberhausen, we decided to try Essen. Unfortunately, the same thing happened here: poor quality food, long wait times, sometimes unfriendly and incompetent staff, and completely exorbitant prices. After reading the monitoring results (Food Transparency NRW) from March... I'll never eat here again!

The restaurant makes a good impression from the outside and inside, it is modernly furnished and quite large. The staff is very friendly. But I've never had to wait as long for my food in my life as I did in the Ash. The restaurant was busy but not full and we still had to wait 2 hours for our food. The staff always emphasized that it wouldn't be long and apologized, but that's really not good! We actually wanted to leave the restaurant again. It was similar with other guests. My expensive steak wasn't exactly as I ordered it and it wasn't really hot anymore. Maybe we were just unlucky. Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend the Ash and won't eat there again.
