Taverna Phaestos in Berlin

Phaestos...we go there every year. So we'll stop by while we're in Berlin. And...super delicious food, wonderfully pleasant service, and a ambiance that's neither kitschy nor fancy. A wonderful alternative far from the tourist crowds. We loved it, the name says it all.

Delicious food, nothing to complain about!

The service is warm, attentive, and personal – a family business like you'd expect from the past, yet still modern! The restaurant is much more than just a place to eat – it's a local institution. Great restaurant. Super friendly and welcoming staff. I had the grilled salmon with potatoes and beans. Very tasty. It just wasn't quite warm when served. Still, 5 stars from me :)

5 Stars – After this visit the bar for Greek food has been reset! To be honest, I was just expecting a “good Greek” – to be full, delicious gyros, nice evening. What I got was so much more! This restaurant showed me how incredibly fresh, flavorful and versatile Greek food can really be. Every plate was a small taste experience – far away from the “standard cuisine” that we are otherwise familiar with. You can tell straight away: Here they cook with love, work with quality and serve with real passion. I'm thrilled and at the same time a little spoiled - because from now on every other Greek will have a hard time matching it! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience Greek food on a new level.

Phaestos Tavern is a small, very cozy Greek restaurant where you immediately feel welcome. The waiter was incredibly friendly and accommodating - you immediately had the feeling that you were in good hands. The food was fresh and delicious. A place with a lot of heart that I can definitely recommend!

The owner and the entire team are simply great: warm, attentive and always with a smile. You don't just feel like a guest here, but almost like you're staying with friends. And of course the traditional ouzo on the house should not be missing - a wonderful gesture that rounds off the visit perfectly. For us the best Greek restaurant far and wide. Today the two of us ate here. When we arrived, the restaurant was already full and all the free tables were reserved, so we wouldn't have been able to get a seat. When we asked if we could sit at a small staff table a little away to wait for a table, we were immediately offered it in a friendly manner. We were even allowed to order and eat there. The staff was extremely warm and we loved the food. We felt like welcome guests and really enjoyed the typical Greek hospitality. Thank you for the lovely evening – a very clear recommendation!

The ambience is nice. The side salad was very good, and the olive oil is excellent. The food was a disaster. This was by far the worst fish I have been served in years. The sea bass was small, completely dry and charred. Inedible, the poor fish died in vain. After my complaint, this was not taken off the bill, but was charged one euro more than it was on the card. My husband's sarti platter was edible but not worth mentioning. We've been going to Greece for 30 years, and fortunately the cooking there is really different. We were here twice - the first and the last time. Too bad.

Very, very pleasant this Greek, Mediterranean restaurant - without exaggeration! A typical family-run restaurant, modernly furnished, comfortable seating and enough space in the dining room. The food is fresh and deliciously prepared. In the warm season there is enough space in front of the restaurant. Jagowstrasse is not very busy and so the outside area is also pleasant. I go there often with Rick, T.C. and Thomas. We love being here and would like to see a restaurant like this in Honolulu, perhaps on Kalakaua Avenue. Well, we'll probably have to fly here more often.

There were 20 people there and the food was served one by one. Unfortunately some of the food had already cooled down a bit. The portions were okay for those who enjoy eating. When we get the chance we will try again with fewer people.

I thought for a long time whether I should give it 3 or 4 stars, but the food just wasn't that great. Don't know where the super 5 stars come from. The small side salad was ok and of good quality. The main course wasn't that good. The bifteki was totally burnt and more black than grilled. I had the impression it came out of the deep fryer baked up. The gyro was also cut into strange pieces and not from the rotisserie, very greasy and of poor quality. The skewer and french fries were good. I wouldn't go there again given my experience today. I actually wanted to go there with my two colleagues next week, but we'd rather not. Sorry wasn't meant to be despite friendly service and the obligatory ouzo on the house.

Greek restaurant pretty elegant, with everything so tasty. We tried mousaka, mixed meat plates, amazing. Dolmadakia very good, and this pie with spinach inside a bit oily but so good. Great also the local wine.

Arrived with no pre-booking and were given a table no problem. Amazing authentic Greek food and the portion sizes were fantastic. When we received the bill we couldn’t believe the great value for what we ate and drank. Lovely little gem hidden in Berlin for those that love authentic Greek cuisine.

Great restaurant, the prices are not the lowest, but quality of food and services compensate - it is worthy a detour once a while. Meal, water and a glass of wine came out slightly above 40 EUR.

Fantastic Greek restaurant without the cliche decorations in the guest room. Instead there are varying pieces of art (photos, paintings, ...) of small artists on the wall. Everything tastes authentic, as far as I can judge that, but in any case very delicious. There are various vegetarian options available as well.

Es war ein wirklicher toller Abend . Wir hatten für 7. Personen reserviert. Auf Nachfrage durften wir schon früher kommen. Zur Begrüssung standen schon 7 Ouzos auf dem Tisch... Super reichhaltige Vorspeisenplatte. Alle waren auch mit dem Hauptgericht mehr als zufrieden. Die Chefin hatte immer einen Blick auf unseren Tisch und so ist auch niemand verdurstet..... Nach über 4 Stunden in geselliger Runde waren wir auch über die Rechnung positiv überrascht. Eine absolute Empfehlung wenn in Berlin. Vielen Dank für den schönen Abend.

Food quite good but nothing special. Otherwise everything is okay.

The starters and desserts were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Although I didn't expect the tiramisu from the Greek. The main course was unfortunately a star deduction for me, too much meat, hardly any taste and no reason for me to go Greek, the kritharaki came with nothing but mountain cheese? served. What really disappointed me was that some classics were missing from the menu. All in all, it's more of a fusion cuisine with different influences, not a classic Greek restaurant. If you like that, you're in absolutely good hands here. It's cozy, friendly service and it's not crowded, so you can spend your time there comfortably.

We found this restaurant by chance. At first we were a bit confused as this isn't a "standard" Greek meal, but then we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was great. Price performance good.

Ein Grieche mit dem gewissen Stil, den diese Küche auch verdient hat. Also weniger plumpe Teller mit Sattmach-Attitude sondern etwas eleganter ohne ins Schischi abzudriften. Die Qualität der Produkte erkennt man auf dem Teller. Einfach empfehlenswert. Die Atmosphäre ist wie zu Gast in einem Wohnzimmer, locker und heimelig. Und ja, hier kommt keiner zufällig vorbei. Auch das trägt zur Stimmung bei.

Habe Dorade gegessen und es war super lecker!! Man merkt alles ist selbst gemacht und die Besitzer sind sehr lieb und Gastfreundlich. Ich empfehle das Lokal sehr!!

Moderne Taverna mit Wohlfühlatmosphäre. Vorab möchte ich mich für alles entschuldigen, was meinem begrenzten Wissen hinsichtlich der griechischen Kultur und Gastlichkeit geschuldet sein mag. Ich besuche selten Tavernen griechischen Stils. Zumeist wird vom Inhaber dabei besonderes Augenmerk darauf gelegt, eine durch und durch "urige" Atmosphäre zu erschaffen, die griechischen Polis quasi nach Mitteleuropa, ins Moabiter Ghetto zu verfrachten. Vergessen Sie das alles für einen Moment. Diese Taverna ist anders. Es ist die moderne Interpretation eines griechischen Lokals mit all seiner Geschichte und Leidenschaft zu Essen, Wein und Gesellligkeit im 21. Jahrhundert. Es ist schlicht, hell, aufgeräumt, ein dominanter nicht zu bestreitender Hang zum Minimalismus, der nur von dekorativen Relikten der Weihnachtszeit gebrochen wird. Es ist Konzept als Antithese zum Bekannten, zum Erwartbaren. Es passt in das Berlin dieser Zeit. Ob ich damit vollends glücklich bin, spielt keine Rolle. Ein Restaurant muss sich zuvörderst an der Qualität der Speisen und am Service messen lassen. Zum Essen ist zu sagen, dass es hervorragend angerichtet wird und in üppigen Portionen zu fairen Preisen daherkommt. Die Qualität bewerte ich als sehr gut, es macht alles einen sehr frischen Eindruck. Positiv hervorheben möchte ich, dass hier nicht aber auch gar nichts überwürzt wird oder in Disbalance steht. Zutaten sind grundsätzlich fein aufeinander abgstimmt. Nun sollte es auch dem letzten klar geworden sein: Hier sind Menschen mit Leidenschaft und Hingabe am Werk, und das spürt man in jeder Minute, in jedem Detail. Es ist eine Atmosphäre, die einen sogleich entfliehen lässt von allem, was druaßen auf der Straße war. Ein großartiger leerer Ort zum Verweilen. Die Musik rieselt nur ganz gezent im Hintergrund und hat ebenso wie die Einrichtung wenig zu tun mit den Klassikern. Erfrischend. Was jedoch am allermeisten zu dieser Atmosphäre beiträgt, ist der Inhaber selbst. Ein wahrhaft herzlicher Mann edlen Gemüts, der immer ein Lächeln auf den Lippen trägt. Sein unbeschwerter Charakter vermittelt einem ein Gefühl, als würde man bei einem alten Freund essen gehen, den man seit 20 Jahren kennt. Als wäre dieser Mann als Inhaber eines griechischen Restaurants geboren worden, als wäre es seine Bestimmung. Ich liebe diesen Ort.

Wenn es einen Geheimtipp eines tollen Griechen in Berlin gibt, dann das Phaestos- Tradition seit 1982!

Gemütliches Restaurant. Leider sehr trockene Dorade und auch das Gyros war zu trocken. Auf eine Beschwerde wurde nicht reagiert. Schade.

Der Besuch in der kleinen schönen modernen Taverna Phaestos im schönen Moabit wahr mehr als zufriedenstellend . Es wahr alles frisch was uns serviert wurde und mit Liebe zubereitet das hat Mann gesehen und geschmeckt ,Qualität dauert mal eine Minute länger 🤗der Service war immer freundlich und ist auch steht’s auf unsere Wünsche eingegangen die Weine waren mega lecker 👌🏻 wenn wir wieder in Berlin eintreffen kommen wir definitiv wieder vielen Dank für den schönen Abend 🙏🏼

Kann die positiven Bewertungen leider nicht nachvollziehen. Haben 75 Minuten auf das Essen gewartet, obwohl nur die Tische draußen besetzt waren. Die Bifteki waren nur mittelmäßig. Dass beim Griechen anstatt Pommes Kartoffeln serviert werden, war mir bisher nicht bekannt. Die Bohnen schmeckten nach nichts. Immerhin kann man schön draußen sitzen.

Freundlichkeit wird dort groß geschrieben. Der Wein war sehr gut und alles weitere auch.

Sehr guter Grieche! Immer voll, Reservierung dringend empfohlen. Service sehr herzlich. Auch wenn man manchmal etwas länger warten muss, werden nie die kleinen Extrawünsche vergessen.
