Taverna Ousia – Quaint Ambience, Disappointing Taste Taverna Ousia impresses with its quaint ambiance and super friendly service. Unfortunately, the food didn't measure up. The "Meses OUSIA" appetizer plate was disappointing in terms of taste (lacking seasoning) and too small for the price. The grilled meat was also disappointing; the meat tasted good, but the potato slices, for example, were completely tasteless. Here, too, the meat portion was simply too small for the price. We're also used to the fact that they always serve Djuvec rice in the Ruhr area. We don't understand the many positive reviews, as we've tried other Greek restaurants in the Ruhr area, such as the "Metaxa" restaurant in Castrop-Rauxel or "Ouzo's" in Herne, where the quality and value of the food is significantly better. In our opinion, the value for money was not at all appropriate. Conclusion: * Positive: Quaint ambiance Super friendly service * Negative: Food was disappointing in terms of taste Not good value for money

As someone who loves and misses authentic Greek food, this restaurant is a godsend.

We had an appetizer platter (for 2 people) that was supposed to contain twelve variations. There were only eight, taste: moderate, one yogurt, one bread. That already costs €46.50. If you now drink 1 liter of rosé and two espressos and one seltzer, you'll be at €100! Keep your eyes open when it comes to drinks. By the way, they are not on the homepage.

Pleasant, cozy Greek restaurant. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was delicious and prepared quickly despite the large number of guests. The food was good quality and tasty, the portions were reasonable and the price was right too. Vegetarians will also find a good selection of starters and main courses here.

They are really overwhelmed with the management of the restaurant. Orders didn't work, things were delivered that weren't ordered, or you had to wait 1 hour for a beer. The worst thing was the chaotic billing for the things that weren't ordered. Far too expensive for simple 2 star food. The ambience was also a disaster. Bad music, loud and the service didn't understand you. All I can say is don't go there if it's full. And write down the order yourself otherwise you'll end up with a problem.

I love this place! I try to go to this restaurant whenever I’m in Berlin, and I always like to eat here with a group of friends. I always just tell the waiter to put together a menu of their best dishes, and everything is absolutely delicious! The restaurant has an energetic yet cozy vibe, and the grilled octopus is a must!

Best Greek food and service in Germany

This place might just be my favorite restaurant in Berlin! The food is very delicious, the service is excellent, and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. Many thanks for the little treats at the end. We loved the music so much that we ended up staying longer than we planned, and somehow the night turned into an unexpected celebration. By the end, we were dancing with broken plates around us and having the best time. Truly a night to remember!

Absolutely amazing! The food was not only delicious, but a real taste explosion. The service? Top! The employees are incredibly friendly, attentive and create an atmosphere in which you simply feel comfortable. 100% recommended – I’ll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, it has declined quite a bit over the years and prices have risen sharply. Food is ok but in my opinion not worth the money. It is often very loud.

We ate there and ordered a meat mix plate, there were 2 small skewers, a small boulette and a few fried potatoes on it and after waiting for over an hour we spoke to the waiter and asked and got a very rude answer!! We also ordered tzatziki with bread as starters, only the bread arrived first, 20 minutes later the tzatziki... When the bill came I was shocked when the waiter asked if everything was ok? And I told him, well, it was just very little and we had waited for a very long time. He said then I had to go to the snack bar and he didn't care if I didn't come back, others would come... So they won't see us again!

Yesterday we waited 1.5 hours for our food. No bread or other interim solution received. When we mentioned that it was taking far too long, the waiter also became abusive. Paid €25 for a small plate of meat, waited so long, wasn't full and then these cheeky waiters. I'll never do that again. Not recommended

I find the store but the second time it never comes back. Service very stressed. When I order the drinks and I realize it takes too long. I'll try again to get the waiter's attention. And I repeated the order again. The waiter brings it to me after 15 minutes. The double order. I find that fresh. It's not about money. And the behavior of the waiter. When I read the cod on the menu it comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. For everyone the whole world thinks this is a main course. The waiter told me it was an appetizer. Ok, but I wanted to eat it as a main course. Well, the professionalism of the waiters does not translate into a capacity to serve the customer. It would be better to change jobs.

The restaurant is a big one with large seating capacity. We liked the Old school candlelight ambience for dinner . The service was also nice. The prices were high. We had grill plate for 1 person (mixed vegetables as sides) and Paired Souzoukakia (my hearty recommendation for this one) along with rice noodles . One cappuccino and one cola. Paid around 60 euros for this with just enough portions. I am no judge for Greek cuisine , however the food was nothing exceptional to us, considering the prices.

Well located restaurant, rustically furnished, exudes charm. So does the staff, which continues with the tasty food and drinks. I can only recommend it and will definitely be back soon.

The food is good and authentic, you can feel the real greek flavours. The service on the other hand was not very good. We had to wait a long time from entries to main dishes (more than 40 min) and when we asked the waiter the reply we got was not professional, he was almost disrespectful and almost criticized us for asking for an explanation. The same happened with the deserts, we had to wait super long and the same happened to pay the bill. Again, the waiters were not attending us as they should, maybe it was just a bad day but we all agreed that this was not okay. It's sad because we enjoyed the food but the whole experience was impacted and left with a bit of bad taste. I will try again in the future to see if I get a better experience.

Want to eat well late in a Greek restaurant with ambience? Then Ousia is the right place for you! The furnishings, classically appropriate and pleasant, almost fade into the background when you receive such a friendly and nice welcome. The guest is king. A table is quickly set with a tablecloth and all sorts of things. Even if it's already late. The menu offers extensive Greek cuisine. Many things are a little different - better - than expected. The prices are perfectly fine. The service is great, not intrusive, but quick and friendly. The wine list is limited in terms of open wines but the overall offering is good. The dishes are prepared and served very attractively, the oil with bread is tasty and fresh. Everything has a nice atmosphere all around. The sanitary facilities are well maintained and clean. Card payment is possible without any problems, even if the default setting of the tip follows the now usual generous percentage specifications. But why ultimately deduct a star? Unfortunately, the appetizer platter with 12 dishes only had 11 different delicacies. 🙄 Someone must have miscounted it. Since I didn't complain, this should be considered a faux pas.

There were eight of us there and we had a wide variety of dishes. All, really all of the dishes were outstanding. The calmness of the always friendly waiters when the hut was full was remarkable! We'll definitely be back!

Great Greek, probably one of the best Greek restaurants I've eaten at. The high quality of the products is noticeable in both the food and the drinks and is extremely authentic. Reservations are recommended, the store is packed, which is understandable. Great employees, whom I would like to thank again from the bottom of my heart! Due to poor circulation, I almost fell and the staff helped me so well - my legs were held up, a pillow was placed under my head in the lying position and water was dripped over my forehead with a cloth. It was a frightening moment that I will always remember very positively! Thank you very much again!

Very nice service and the ambience is great. We all know that it has become more expensive everywhere, but I no longer think it's okay to charge 22.50 euros for a moussaka. In addition, there was always at least an ouzo on the house at the end and usually a small dessert. This time neither one nor the other. Very unfortunate......

A customer of ours for 18 years can only say that it tastes great, a lot of it is grilled. I just don't like the mezze, everything else is good. The service sometimes suffers a bit because the store is always overly busy. The best Greek in Berlin, absolute favorite Greek. Always full, you should reserve a table. That says it all about the restaurant.

Came with a couple of friends for dinner and we loved it. The food was absolutely delicious (highly recommend the meatballs and the moussaka!!). Our waiter was great: funny, talkative and even set us up with some amazing desserts. There are not enough great Greek restaurants in Berlin, but this is definitely one of them. Will be back again!

Unser 24er Herbst-Treffen mit ehemaligen Arbeitskollegen fand diesmal im Lokal Taverna Ousia statt, im Kiez gelegen, nahe Bayrischem Platz. Von außen eher unscheinbar, aber innen durchaus urig, gut besucht. Das Personal freundlich, aufmerksam und mit einer mediterranen Ruhe ausgestattet…. Die Überraschung für mich war das qualitativ gute Essen. Zur Vorspeise die gegrillten Calamaris in Olivenöl-Zitronendressing. Mega zart gegrillt, geschmacklich gut, mit Salatbeilage, wirklich empfehlenswert . Nach kurzer Pause als Hauptgericht das Bifteki gemisto (Schwein-, Lamm- und Rinderhackfleisch) gefüllt mit mildem Schafskäse, Zwiebeln, Paprika und Tomate. Dazu frittierte Kartoffelscheiben und Tzatziki. Echt klasse, geschmacklich gut abgestimmt. Lecker! Einen Original griechischen Nachtisch gab‘s vom Haus (wie immer sehr süß, muss man mögen) „on top“ und natürlich den obligatorischen Ouzo. Ein kulinarisch gelungener Abend…. Kann ich durchaus weiterempfehlen.

A lovely evening in a Greek tavern. Delicious food, great ambience and great service. We visited the restaurant 13 years ago and were really impressed with the whole thing back then. Even after so many years, this tavern has remained true to its motto and presents guests with a certain holiday feeling. Escape the big city on a little vacation in Greece! We'll definitely be back and hopefully soon :)

The first time there on a Saturday late afternoon. Very friendly staff and above all a lot of staff. It actually seemed cozy, but it filled up quickly and was quite loud. It was also quite drafty in the front part. So if you're looking for a cozy place to talk in peace, you've come to the wrong place. Food was completely delicious, fresh and hot. We found it irritating that there was no gyros on the menu. But this is just for information and has nothing to do with the rating. The bifteki in particular was super juicy with lots of vegetables and sheep's cheese in it. In any case, you can have a good meal here. However, we know other Greeks at a similar level with more moderate prices. We had a bottle of still water for €6.80, which we find sporty. 2 main courses, a portion of garlic bread and a bottle of water for €70 (including tip) is quite something.

Unfortunately I can't say much good things, we went to the Taverna Ousia on multiple recommendations and were unfortunately really disappointed. First of all, we got a cat table on the terrace shortly after it opened at 5 p.m., even though it was completely empty and didn't get much fuller during that time of our stay.But good, I didn't think it was that bad, but the price-performance ratio is not good at all.4 small slices of white bread with a touch of garlic and oregano €3.50, 4 tablespoons of melizanasalata €7.50 (but that was the best of everything), then beetroot, more like pink beetroot, tasted like Kühne's washed ones, the fried zucchini slices had no taste of their own, but had an unpleasant taste of oil that clearly didn't come from olive oil. The crown was the mussels, the broth was also tasteless and I had to leave them after three mussels because they were so mealy that I was worried about fish poisoning. I'm really sorry, I go to Greece three times a year and expected at least a somewhat acceptable level.

Very interesting. We ordered something small. It's not that much food, but it was enough for me. We received a very generous dessert from the house, it was amazing! The house also offered schnapps a few times, which I found very pleasant, but we don't drink schnapps. Highly recommended

We ordered a lot and paid a lot for unacceptably small portions without filling up. It used to be our favorite Greek taverna in Berlin but not anymore.

Good food, unfortunately extremely expensive as everything is charged extra. Waiters tried to be friendly despite the full house. We don't come back simply because we can get similar quality at other Greek restaurants for less than half the price.

7 of us Stopped by Monday night for a nice dinner and we weren’t disappointed. Foods: huge portion and very good. My wife and I always share our foods so we got a salad ($11), a chicken skewer chicken rice dish ($23). Salad was very good. Since we didn’t know how big the portion was, We thought about adding another skewer but it cost $17 so we didn’t do it. Luckily we didn’t because portions was enough for 2. Servers: friendly and fast Atmosphere: even though it was Monday night, but the restaurant was packed with parties and diners. Menu: they also have English version

I was the first time in Taverna Ousia during a professional trip in Berlin. A friend living here suggested this tavern to me. The food is original greek, the ambient and the service excellent. Since then, when I am in Berlin I take my colleges to have the original greek experience. Immer wieder!

Busy and nice atmosphere even for a Monday. Very quick service also, Shared lots of dishes with 3 friends and everything was super fresh, great quality meat and amazing dessert! I Wish I got some pictures but we were too busy enjoying ourselves. Will definitely be back!

What an amazing find. Showed up late night and was seated and delivered what felt like a home cooked meal. The food was fresh, delicious, plentiful and hit the spot. The staff was delightful and attentive. The bill - silly low. Highly recommend.

RUINED OUR BIRTHDAY DINNER. Extremely rude behaviour, didnt care about our reservation, ignored us for an hour, sarcastic attitude. DO NOT GO THERE

We booked an outdoor table one week before, they gave us an indoor table instead. Confusions may happen sometimes, but afterwards we have waited for 40 mins to order, specifically called a waiter twice and nobody looked for us and the attitude felt like we are not wanted. The worst service in a restaurant I have ever encountered.

Nice interior design that immediately makes you feel like you're in Greece, but the chairs inside aren't particularly inviting or comfortable. The waiters were ALL very accommodating and extremely friendly. The food, however, was only worth 3 stars.

Back from travelling in beautiful Argentina and Uruguay I couldn't wait to test a Greek restaurant in my hometown of Berlin. Instead of the usual thursday-eating-out with my bestie we had to opt for a Friday evening, which is a busy time for Berlin. That might have had an influence on the performance of Taverna Ousia. Although we had a reservation the restaurant manager welcomed us rather unfriendly and started by telling us where we could NOT SIT. Neither warm nor clever. The table we would have preferred was intended for TV-watching guests, he informed us. Odd, that this TV was never activated during our time there and that table was used by other, randomly showing up guests without reservation. The furniture there is, well, not too comfy. The chairs are too low and offer a comfort comparable to garden chairs, as are the tables, which are also too small for even two people - not thinking about four people for which it is intended. Our waiter was very good, but at the same time the food quality was mediocre. Neither extremely good nor extremely bad. The restaurant itself gets very loud if filled by more than 40 % of the maximum capacity.

The food tastes good, but the portions are really too small, which doesn't help the price-performance ratio.
