Meteora offers solid Greek-Mediterranean cuisine with a down-to-earth, honest touch. I was particularly impressed by the oven-roasted lamb shank: wonderfully tender, aromatic, and perfectly paired with the accompanying beans (gigandes) – a dish that combines rustic home cooking with careful preparation. The atmosphere is relaxed, and they even serve a Darmstadt beer. Freshly bought, it comes in a glass with the "Man with a Monocle" logo. It's this kind of little something that gives the visit that special, memorable character. Not every dish was a highlight, but the lamb shank with beans was a perfect match: hearty, honest, and delicious. Taverna Meteora in Mainz-Kastel is a wonderful reunion with the quality and warmth we knew and loved from Lino's previous restaurant in Hochheim. The moment you step inside, you feel the familiar, warm atmosphere – Lino and his team welcome every guest with genuine hospitality and a smile that instantly makes you feel at home. The Taverna Meteora leaves nothing to be desired in terms of cuisine. The dishes are fresh, lovingly prepared, and bursting with flavor – just like we remember from the old days. From the classic appetizers to the delicious grilled meat and fish dishes, you can taste the high quality of the ingredients and the passion with which the food is prepared. The portions are generous, perfectly seasoned, and simply a delight. The drinks selection is equally impressive: whether a good Greek wine or a cold beer – everything is served at the perfect temperature and with the same attention to detail as the food. We are delighted that Lino has settled in at his new location and that his kitchen is flourishing once again. Taverna Meteora combines excellent food with genuine hospitality – a visit is absolutely worthwhile, and we will gladly return in the future!

Very friendly people here and wonderful food.

The food is really delicious and the staff are friendly. The restaurant is also nicely decorated, and you can even learn a little Greek from the menu – really cool! The only slightly annoying thing is that the portions are a bit too small. However, this is something that varies from person to person, but I don't get properly full from the portion alone.

Here, the guest is king, and therefore the food is fit for a king! Keep it up…

Very tasty food and good service

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place after the change of ownership. The garlic bread was cold, the rosé wine warm, the starter salad overly acidic, the Metaxa sauce tasted like watered-down tomato sauce, and the gyros, topped with Metax sauce and cheese, had a very peculiar flavor. Hot dishes like garlic bread and baked mushrooms were served on ice-cold plates. I even got stomach cramps while still in the restaurant. I initially didn't want to write a review because everyone should have a second chance to prove themselves. I'm a regular customer and have been in the restaurant business for over 25 years, but I unfortunately cannot recommend this place. Very bad.

New owner!!! The tables weren't clean, they were sticky. The cutlery was jumbled together and inconsistent, using tin cutlery. The service promised a lot, but then everything was forgotten when serving, and even when paying by card, the price was simply rounded up to the owner's advantage. The food was extremely meager, nothing like the previous owner's. Even ingredients that were listed on the menu and had been paid for were missing. The side dish was a tiny portion of potatoes, which you had to share with your neighbor. They won't see friends, acquaintances, family, neighbors, or me anymore. The previous owner's place was so incredibly good, what a shame.

I never write reviews. But I have to make an exception: new owner – significantly more expensive – unfortunately, the quality is worse. We ordered today for 4 people, including an appetizer – with pickup. Unfortunately, the side dish wasn't wrapped for one dish (for a €19.80 dish), and the other gratin dish was ice cold (a casserole!) and contained old and black potatoes. Everything used to be great. I don't know if we'll be back here again, unfortunately. We live across the street. When we called, they only offered to make it up to us with our next order.

We used to love going there. Unfortunately, the old owners have left. The coleslaw used to be great, but now they have chunky iceberg lettuce with chunky onions. Please stick with the coleslaw. Why do you only get a thimbleful of tzatziki with a meat platter? The stuff really doesn't cost much and would have satisfied me. We'll try again in a few weeks, but please return to the good things of the previous owners.

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday – it was completely full, and we arrived without a reservation. Nevertheless, we received a very friendly welcome. Although the restaurant was very busy, this had absolutely no impact on the quality of service. The food was incredibly delicious, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. We returned for dinner after a while and were shocked to see how much the restaurant had declined overall since the change in management. Instead of the homemade coleslaw, we were served an iceberg lettuce that was largely rotten; my husband's had a huge chunk of the stalk. The bifteki was watery, the baked gyro was swimming in oil, and the side dish consisted of fried potato slices from the freezer. The service was chaotic and overwhelmed. We waited almost two hours for the food, and the drinks arrived only moments before. It doesn't make up for it that they bring a full tray of ouzo to our table, allowing us to help ourselves to whatever we wanted. That was our last visit to Taverna Meteora.

Three of us were there today. The food was really delicious, but the service was terrible. We were constantly forgotten about, not even once were we asked if we wanted something to drink. The empty plates sat on the table for over half an hour, and no one cleared them away. Despite all that, we decided to have dessert. Dessert took over an hour, and then the waitress came and said the Greek yogurt was empty. One had two scoops of vanilla ice cream with chocolate—mind you, an hour. I had a chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream, which came with pistachio ice cream. When we wanted to pay, there wasn't even a "how did it taste?" question. He would have received a compliment for that, but I've rarely experienced such poor service. On top of that, the prices were simply calculated at the table when paying.

I have appreciated this restaurant for years – especially the authentic cuisine, the warm service, and the great atmosphere. Unfortunately, a lot has changed since the change of ownership. The food tastes different; it's no longer at the same level as before. This may be due to a new concept. The location is still excellent, and I very much hope that the quality will soon return to its former glory. It would be a shame if this special place were to lose value. This review is objective – there is currently clearly room for improvement. I nevertheless wish the new owner much success and the necessary sensitivity for further development. You can tell from the food that the kitchen staff knows their craft and prepares everything with love. Whether it's an appetizer or a main course, everything is delicious. The service is also beyond reproach. The child-friendly service is very attentive and polite. The portions are large but not overwhelming, and if you order a starter, it's almost impossible to finish. However, there are options to have the leftovers packed away. Since the restaurant is so good and apparently well-known, you should definitely reserve a table well in advance. It deserves 5 stars, and we'll be happy to come back.

This was our second visit; the first time was about a month ago. The owners seem to have changed since then. The first time we were there, the waiters were all super friendly. There was a weekly specials menu, and we were very pleased with the service. When we went today, we expected the same, but were a bit disappointed. Even though it was a Saturday evening, there were only three waiters, who seemed very overwhelmed. The food was satisfactory, but we had to ask for bread for the appetizer several times. Overall, understaffed and a bit chaotic.

My family and I have been going to Taverna Meteora for birthdays for about two years now. We are a large group: four children and six adults. At first, everything was great; the portions were generous and the service was very friendly. Over the years, we have noticed a big change. The food portions simply don't match the high prices (even though it is really delicious). Furthermore, we are starting to feel unwelcome. Our orders are often met with annoyance, as our children often interrupt us or we have to change something. It's a shame. The main course is often brought out while we're still eating our starters. This means the food gets cold quickly. It gives the impression that the staff is trying to get rid of us quickly. The last time we were there, we weren't offered a "final drink" or anything for the children (this used to be the norm). We don't feel welcome there with children (perhaps it's more for the older clientele without children). We won't be going there again.

WOW! I haven't had such delicious food in a long time. The starter, side dish, main course, and dessert were all incredibly delicious. Thank you so much for the hospitality and the delicious food. Number 120, lamb shank with Greek pasta and baked cheese, is highly recommended. We will definitely be back!

This was our third time eating in this restaurant and certainly not the last time. The food is super tasty, especially all kinds of meat, cooked to perfection. The service is very friendly and accommodating. Child-friendliness is very important here.

By a lovely coincidence we came across the Taverna Meterora, a cozy Greek restaurant in Mainz Kastel. So I ordered a table by phone, because this is absolutely necessary as there is a lot of traffic due to the great cuisine. We were more than thrilled with the starter, main course and desserts. Everything was freshly prepared and they say they are very hospitable here. The Taverna Meterora is more than recommended because the friendliness makes the food taste twice as good.

We were there for the first time. The front dining room was full but after a short wait we were offered a table in the back room. It was great because it was much quieter there and you could have a great chat with the children. The food was super tasty. For our little one, her pasta was only half baked because she wasn't sure whether she liked the cheese or not. The food came quickly and even though we sat in the back room, the service was always attentive and there often enough. So with us you definitely got new customers because you get easy, quick and good service and the food is super good. We'll definitely be back

Solid Greek restaurant, nothing more and nothing less. The range of dishes is as you would expect from a Greek restaurant, the portions are sufficient, the taste is okay, I was missing a bit of pizzazz, a bit more sophistication in the taste. Another complaint is that the food is served on ice-cold plates and therefore cools down very quickly. The location's furnishings are getting a bit old. The staff is attentive, the prices are acceptable.

Unassuming but underrated good Greek restaurant. The above-average reviews led us back to Meteora on the Hessian shore during our visit to Mainz and the decision was spot on. The restaurant is homely, there is plenty of on-site parking right in front of the door and both the food and service are excellent. If Kastel were a little closer to FFM, we would definitely travel here more often just for this purpose.

The Greek restaurant in Mainz Kastell offers a wonderful atmosphere in its outdoor area. The service is very friendly and accommodating. However, you should reserve a table in advance, especially on a nice day, as the restaurant is quite good. The food is excellent, especially the meat is of good quality, which is unfortunately missing in many Greek restaurants. You can find that here. Nice, neat and always a nice evening with good food

We can highly recommend this Greek restaurant. It was our first time here and the restaurant was very busy. We received a very friendly welcome, got a table for two and the service was very good. There is a very good selection of Greek specialties, there is something for everyone and it tastes very tasty (the meat is very juicy, very very tasty gyros and the portions are large). If we were to stay in Mainz again, we would dine in this restaurant at any time. The service is very good, fast and very friendly at all times.

Food was average to good for Greek food in Germany. The service was extremely slow with our entrees coming out close to 2 hours after ordering (on a relatively slow Thursday evening) which is slow by even European standards for dinner.

The ambience is great. The wine is known to be good. However, far overpriced in the restaurant!! The concept of eating in the restaurant also needs to be reviewed. Simple meals cannot be ordered. To do this, module orders must be decided and carried out in a concept. This automatically upgrades a small hunger to the menu. This is also reflected in the increased price. This quickly costs the little hanger between 100 and 150 euros... I don't find this economic move consumer-friendly. This means I can still give it a good 2 stars.

I wonder what I paid around €83 for. Mistakes in the kitchen, food was so-so, which was also complained about to the waitress. Answer: excuses from the waitress and still complete bill, that speaks of arrogance according to the motto: Eat up, you idiot, pay up and keep your mouth shut.

The food and service are top. However, it is very loud here. Because it tastes so good it is always full. Conversations at the table are tiring because you constantly hear the other guests who are in a good mood.
