Ich hatte mich aufgrund er Tatsache, dass es sich hier um ein alteingesessenes Restaurant handelt, darauf verlassen, hier sehr gutes Essen für mich und meinen Gast zu bekommen. Leider wurde zumindest ich absolut enttäuscht. Ich bin 55 Jahre alt und war in meinem bisherigen Leben schon in vielen griechischen Restaurants, da ich das Essen sehr sehr gerne mag, aber ich bin noch nie so dermaßen enttäuscht worden. Ich hatte mir nämlich das Gyros in Metaxa Sauce mit Käse überbacken bestellt. Als ich dann sah, dass der Koch eine Kokotte aus dem Kühlschrank nahm, Frischhaltefolie entfernte und das Gefäß in eine Mikrowelle stellte, wurde ich bereits skeptisch. Nachdem die Mikrowelle klingelte, entnahm er das Gefäß, legte Käse oben hinauf und stellte es in den Salamander zum Überbacken. Ich bekam also Gyrosfleisch vom Vortag, welches nun in der Mikrowelle im eigenen Saft und einer Metaxa?? Sauce erhitzt wurde. Es schmeckte wie labberiges gekochtes Fleisch, die vermeintliche Sauce war dünnflüssig und fast geschmacksneutral. Das knusprige, was man vom guten Gyros kennt, war vollkommen auf der Strecke geblieben. Ich habe noch nie so bescheiden gegessen wie dort! Sechs, setzen. ich freue mich jedoch für alle Gäste, die dort bisher gut gegessen haben, ich jedoch werde es nie wieder ausprobieren.

In my opinion, 4.3 is clearly too high. Price/performance doesn't fit. Small portions (no fries, no rice possible). I'm used to much larger portions of Greek food. The waiter (= owner?) prides himself on being “from the old school” and, in our opinion, makes inappropriate comments when I want to order food for my girlfriend. Positive: The food tasted delicious. Was recommended to us by the night watchman tour on our tour as the best Greek in St Pauli. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as fantastic as it was advertised to us. Gyros were out, the bifteki was dry, the salad wasn't great either, and I was missing rice or fries. The tzatziki wasn't like I know it from the Greeks either, with little cucumber, a lot of dill and otherwise rather bland. I also found the portions to be rather small. We sat outside so I can't say much about the ambience, it's ok I mean. The friendliness was ok and you also got an ouzo after your meal, as I usually get from Greeks. And as is often the case in Hamburg, you can only pay in cash.

It's hard to find places with such an atmosphere. Time has stopped and it has its charm, although some people will like it less than others. The food is tasty, the prices are affordable, and the owner who serves the guests does a great job.

Simply fantastic, the service is so nice and so authentic and really honest and such service. Normally I don't write reviews but I have to dream about the older, nice gentleman who does the service. I've never experienced anything so nice, and the gyros are so juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, wow. Unfortunately, I had special requests because I don't like salad and certain vegetables, and they were accommodated without any problems. Really a must in St.Pauli.

The owner is really nice and friendly, though we arrived late in the evening,(almost closing time) but still the owner served us with all smile.. He let us enjoy our food and the place. My favorite Greek restaurant in Hamburg. Just a few steps away from the Reeperbahn and Hans-Albers-Platz, I always feel at home straight away. The dishes have remained almost unchanged for decades. The price-performance ratio clearly goes in the direction of performance and quality. Finally, a piece of Greek cake and freshly made small strong coffee. Be sure to try the souvlaki. And watch the people strolling along Davidstrasse. Tourists should visit the museum opposite. In the meantime, Herbertstrasse is a great place for men to stroll and try things out.

A little highlight for me as a non-Hamburger. I walked past it so often when I was in Hamburg and then spontaneously satisfied my hunger there. And do I have it ready, no, not a piece!!! Nice little established little shop with the beautiful Fler like from the 80s. Where restaurants still looked like restaurants and pizza restaurants looked like pizza restaurants. Splendid! The food was very good. I simply ordered a portion of gyros, tzatziki and bread. Simply great and always happy again. The owner (now of advanced age) was extremely nice and made you feel welcome. As a small note... For example, when I see what a certain Stefanie.A (cough Albrecht) has left here for a review, such Almans should really be banned from writing a review. To drag a store down like that (health department, etc.) So the store was more than clean when I visited and there was no feeling that it was greasy. Ridiculous!😂 Even a chef has a bad day, so he can just open up the shame and talk about it. So easy !!! That's why it's a shame to tear the place up like that. Conclusion: If you really want to eat good Greek food and like the rustic ambience of the 80s/90s that was so common back then, we can only recommend this shop. LG

Visited with my 19-year old daughter from New York City. The owner was amazing! It was a beautiful night, we did not go inside but the outside is very cool… this coming from a born and raised downtown New Yorker. We went to be part of the whole circa 1961 Beatle experience! Lol. I’m giving it five stars even though the food wasn’t that great because it was just such a wonderful night! Prices are definitely worth it

Authentic and delicious! The hospitality is fantastic, the atmosphere is lovely. The food is hard to beat in terms of authenticity - don't expect fries with your dishes! They don't exist. There are wonderful lamb chops and a bifteki, which I'm still raving about. I would love to come back here!

Great Greek on Davidstrasse. It's been around for over 40 years and I like to eat the garlic sausages, known to Turks as sucuk. A real family business and the restaurant has a very cozy, typical St. Pauli flair here.

Always and for many years, when we are in Hamburg for concerts, "long weekends" etc..., we consciously head for this restaurant to enjoy the real Greek cuisine (without the "disturbing" side dishes of fries) in a very cozy atmosphere ) to enjoy. Delicious starters, crispy gyros, great bifteki, fresh salad, served with friendliness and warmth that we otherwise only know from Crete. It was another highlight for us today to dine at the Hellas tavern. We will definitely come back the next time we visit HH, we are already looking forward to it! Stay the way you are and please don't change anything! When can you actually give 6 stars?

Obviously homemade bifteki and gyros, delicately seasoned, no nubble, tender, crispy bread, house wine absolutely okay, all for a great price, interior like in a simple Greek tavern, the way you like and know it. Absolutely unexpected and very good in the tourist area!

If you don't shy away from a simple, honest but tasty restaurant, you've come to the right place. The wooden benches don't invite you to linger for hours, but the food is prepared with love. Anyone expecting elaborate dishes or super great dishes will be disappointed. But the large enough portions are super tasty and if you want to talk to the owner, you're in good hands here. We would love to come back, just because of the starter and the cake and dessert.

Die wohl kleinste Portion Gyros, die ich je gegessen habe und geschmacklich nur durchschnittlich. Das "geröstete" Brot dazu war leider verbrannt. Wir wurden nach Ankunft fast 10 min ignoriert, danach nur mäßige Freundlichkeit. Waren leider zu Faul, vorher wieder zu gehen, da Hunger zu Groß. Sind danach noch wo anders eingekehrt zum essen, da nicht satt geworden.

Der Kellner war sehr bemüht und freundlich, der Ouzo war sehr lecker, das Essen war allerdings bestenfalls durchschnittlich und die Portionen waren sehr überschaubar... Das Ambiente, insbesondere die Toiletten, waren sehr "rustikal" gehalten..

Simpel und lecker! Es handelt sich um ein sehr einfaches Restaurant ohne Schnickschnack, aber mit Herz und freundlicher Bedienung. Wenn man „schön essen gehen“ will, ist die Taverna Hellas eher nicht das Richtige, aber wenn man ein authentisches Gyros gegen den großen Hunger sucht, wird man hier fündig. Auch die Vorspeisen lohnen sich! Kleiner Tipp: Bleibt für den Hauptgang bei Fleisch und Brot. Der Auflauf und das Moussaka halten mit anderen griechischen Restaurants leider nicht mit.

Zufällig hungrig vorbei gelaufen und spontan dort gegessen. War schon einiges nach 22 Uhr, aber wir bekamen natürlich noch was zu essen. Bifteki war super lecker. Vorspeise, Schnaps und Nachtisch auf's Haus. Sympathischer Chef!

The interior is quite small, they use a beach bbq to prepare your grilled food so am not sure about how fresh the food is. The gyro i bought tasted good. The price is ok. I would say it’s just above average.

Prawdziwa grecka tawerna, pokryta już patyną czasu, ale mająca swój niepowtarzalny klimat. Miejsce, do którego wchodząc, przenosimy się w miejscu i w czasie, ale jedzenie bardzo dobre i w bardzo przyzwoitej cenie.

c'est un petit restaurant familial et le couple de patrons est âgé. Ils sont charmants et très efficaces. La nourriture est simple mais excellente et pas chère, avec un petit "amuse bouche" ( rare à Hambourg !) servi avec l'ouzo à l'apéro. Les feuilles de vigne, la féta bien copieuse, les viandes sont un régal . Attention, même avec les tables dehors, le restaurant n'est pas grand et il est préférable de réserver!

Das Lokal befindet sich in einer Seitengasse der Reeperbahn. Ein einfaches typisches griechisches Restaurant, Mama Serviert, Papa kocht. sieht nach Familienbetrieb aus. Das Essen war rasch auf dem Tisch. Die Portionen sind jetzt nicht recht groß, schmecken aber gut. Als Dessert gabs Kuchen vom Haus. Können wir weiter empfehlen!

Nicht viel erwartet und trotzdem eher positiv überrascht worden. Verständigung hat knapp funktioniert, wobei uns mitgeteilt wurde, dass Giros aus sei. Na ja dann wird die Auswahl natürlich klein. Service was exceptional, only issue we had was at the end we found card payments weren't accepted, and got charged 25+ euros to use the only cash machine nearby due to it forcing a poor exchange rate. Ensure you take cash!

Ich bin mit meiner Frau für ein paar Tage in Hamburg und ich musste Ihr unbedingt diese urige Taverne zeigen. Mal wieder sehr lecker gegessen und es gab als kleines Schmankerl noch einen kleinen leckeren Gruß aus der Küche. Ich kann es wie beim letzten Besuch einfach nur empfehlen an alle die nicht luxuriös verwöhnt sind.

Excellent! Did not have high expectations but having just left the restaurant, i can confirm that everything we ate, from lamb chops to mousskka or revani was perfect. I have been to a fancier greek restaurant with a much more extensive menu last week, this was by far better.

Ich bin auf diese urige kleine Taverne tatsächlich über Google gestoßen. War für ein paar Tage beruflich in Hamburg und habe nach einem griechische gesucht. Die Bewertungen hatten mich neugierig gemacht. Es ist als kommt man irgendwo in Griechenland in eine urige Taverne, richtig gemütlich. Zwei ältere Herren begrüßten mich freundlich, es gibt eine kleine überschaubare Karte. Das Essen war sehr lecker und serviert wie ich es aus Griechenland kenne, nicht so eingedeutscht, wie es sonst aus griechischen Restaurants kennt mit einem Berg Pommes....Vorab als kleinen Gruß aus der Küche eine kleine Portion Gigantes...echt schön. Mir hat Esso gut gefallen,dass ich in der Woche gleich zweimal dort gegessen habe. Ich komme bei meinem nächsten Hamburg Aufenthalt sicher wieder.

Auf Empfehlung sind wir bei einem Klasse Gruechen gelandet. Tolles Essen, klasse Service. Endlich mal passte alles. Unbedingt weiter zu empfehlen.

Ein unglaublich süßer Laden! Die Bedienung (ein älterer, sehr netter Grieche) ist wirklich sehr nett und zuvorkommend! Das Essen war wirklich sehr lecker, wir haben uns sofort wohlgefühlt! Brot, Salat und Ouzo zu jedem Essen dabei und die Gerichte wirklich zu sehr moderaten Preisen! Und das direkt in der Davidstraße. Wir kommen im nächsten Urlaub bestimmt wieder 😊

This Greek gem deserves recognition! Customer service is absolutely brilliant, you feel as though you are the only customer in the restaurant. This man knows how to make his customers feel special. The food is tasty and fantastic, special mention must be made of the lamb, absolutely devine. There are not many seats available, would recommend trying to make a reservation especially on the weekend. Highly recommended when in Hamburg.

Short trip to hamburg from the uk happened on this quality restaurant and wasnt dissapointed, two kebabs ( no pita bread ) and two cokes 23 euro, great price and great quality.

I love coming here every time i come to Hamburg it’s my go to for lunch or dinner Nikko is such a generous man, the restaurant is small and comfortable the food although a small menu, exceptional! I love the lamb cutlets with the fresh salad and garlic sauce. The restaurant is easy to find and the prices so reasonable- Don’t waste your time going to a burger bar

One pf the eldest Greek restaurants in Hamburg - and one of the best I may say. Established in the 70s somewhen, furnishment and food-offer really didn't change this much - but this doesn't matter at all. Them owners are wonderful friendly nice affectionate Greek people ❤. I am here every time I am close by and hungry. And I will be in future 😊.

We get our food served after midnight, not get ripped off as amost everywhere in the area. Dishes were tasty, coffee was great and free-off-charge ouzo was a very nice gift from the owner. Very affordable prices.

Restaurant is small and bear all the carm of your local around the corner pub. Staff are very friendly and the gentleman hosting is just perfect. Food is simple but excellent and the tzatziki have the right amount of garlic.

Situated in a side street off the reeperbahn and opposite the red light district , this restaurant is very understated from the outside . Having decided to take the plunge and enter we stood in the doorway entrance being completely ignored while the rude elderly waiter went backwards and forwards several times . In the end we sat down at the only available table - yes the place was busy it was early Saturday evening , may be the locals knew something ? There was no welcome at all just a rather begrudging acceptance of our presence . We had to ask for drinks . My son was playing in a band nearby and we were slightly concerned that the attitude and lethargy would make him late for his deadline . The menus were almost slapped on the table , there was no attempt to communicate .Fortunately there was an English translation ( of sorts ) at the back of the menu . We didn't bother with starters but managed to order drinks . The mains were very good , one moussaka - really nice flavour , lamb chops - again very tasty and one veal escalope completed the order . accompanying salad was tasty and fresh . Having asked for the bill the waiter appeared to take on a different persona - may be this was because of all the Ouzo he had drunk ? We all ( 3 of us ) got an Ouzo , gratis . There appeared to be 3 elderly men operating the restaurant , 1 waiter , 1 barman and 1 'chef' . One could say the place is quirky and just that this how Greeks are - one could say that the workers need a course in customer relations . E40ish later we left trying to explain to the rude waiter that 2/3 of us were partly Greek .

Nice friendly owner, very familiar atmosphere. Restaurant is one of them older facilities, but very comfy. Food is very great - served well and quickly. Even special wishes being fulfulled.
