Quaint, nice little restaurant. The service was very friendly and nice. The food tastes great, slightly small portions. The ambience is unique. This is how you imagine a Greek in Greece 30 years ago. We'll be back next year.

Unfortunately we don't have any fries or cream sauce or hunter's sauce. Went again. I didn't feel comfortable there.

The best Greek in Hamburg? Dear Hamburgers, I really feel sorry for you. The quality isn't even up to snack bar standards. No matter how typically Greek the host is, the food is absolutely subterranean. I won't go into the store a second time, there can be so much free ouzo.

A small Greek restaurant in the middle of Davidstrasse. There are few places available, but the two owners, a slightly older man and a slightly older woman, do everything themselves. Serving, preparing and serving food. The boss is really extremely nice. There was always a little chat. I can definitely say the gyros are one of the best gyros I have ever eaten in my life. Absolutely spicy, juicy, great in taste and simply delicious. I can really recommend it.

The food was very tasty - not as overloaded as many other Greeks, everything was to the point. The boss himself was the waitress and had everything you would expect from an older Greek - wit, charm, hospitality...you just feel at home. In my opinion, the ambience is really nice, or what I imagine a Greek place to be like - not pompous but simple, original and cozy. When I'm back in Hamburg, I'll definitely come back :-)

Very cozy small family restaurant. Authentic Greek food. Very good. Very good quality/price ratio. 22 euros per head. People came in all the time at 3, 4,... Mondays it closes.

The shop is very small and half snack bar/half restaurant. Everything is a bit ragged, but sparkling clean. If you like chic, you probably won't be happy here - I was. ;-) The food is very tasty, but the portions are manageable for the price. The innkeeper served incredibly nicely and humorously, simply a blast. I'd love to come back!

Ich hatte mich aufgrund er Tatsache, dass es sich hier um ein alteingesessenes Restaurant handelt, darauf verlassen, hier sehr gutes Essen für mich und meinen Gast zu bekommen. Leider wurde zumindest ich absolut enttäuscht. Ich bin 55 Jahre alt und war in meinem bisherigen Leben schon in vielen griechischen Restaurants, da ich das Essen sehr sehr gerne mag, aber ich bin noch nie so dermaßen enttäuscht worden. Ich hatte mir nämlich das Gyros in Metaxa Sauce mit Käse überbacken bestellt. Als ich dann sah, dass der Koch eine Kokotte aus dem Kühlschrank nahm, Frischhaltefolie entfernte und das Gefäß in eine Mikrowelle stellte, wurde ich bereits skeptisch. Nachdem die Mikrowelle klingelte, entnahm er das Gefäß, legte Käse oben hinauf und stellte es in den Salamander zum Überbacken. Ich bekam also Gyrosfleisch vom Vortag, welches nun in der Mikrowelle im eigenen Saft und einer Metaxa?? Sauce erhitzt wurde. Es schmeckte wie labberiges gekochtes Fleisch, die vermeintliche Sauce war dünnflüssig und fast geschmacksneutral. Das knusprige, was man vom guten Gyros kennt, war vollkommen auf der Strecke geblieben. Ich habe noch nie so bescheiden gegessen wie dort! Sechs, setzen. ich freue mich jedoch für alle Gäste, die dort bisher gut gegessen haben, ich jedoch werde es nie wieder ausprobieren.

Owner operates a genuine greek old school taverna with authentic and reasonable food on his 52nd year and he knows What he is doing. All the greek classics on the meny. Worth every penny! Authentic and cool St. Pauli will all the girls on every corner…

Be careful, high prices and mini portions. No rice included. Taste ok. No vegetarian alternative.

The food was terrible, everything was somehow warmed up and somehow covered with foil in the refrigerated counter to keep it fresh. Lamb chops were as thick as your thumb and forefinger long🤮 Rice tasted like it was on the plate... no way no point for the place

The Giros tasted like an ordinary piece of meat with sauce and cheese gratinated.

We had to test it, it was recommended by the neighborhood boys from the guide “Stefan” on the Astra tour. What goes better after a few beers than a nice gyros 😉 Rather inconspicuous from the outside, a bit dusty from the inside. Modernize or change? Absolutely not! I have rarely experienced such an authentic Greek. Warm and attentive, welcome to friends. 52 years of history, 42 of which are in today's hands. Craziness! It was explained by the food, everything was really good quality and tasty. Good food doesn't need a design temple. It takes heart and good ingredients. If you're looking for that, you've come to the right place! The Gyros Special is a clear recommendation! Delicious. Appetizer platter also delicious, although not exactly cheap. Overall, a lasting impression and will definitely be visited again.

We sat outside and ate gyros with souvlaki and gyros with sausage. At the weekend it is very interesting to watch all the hustle and bustle here (also because of the proximity to Herbertstrasse). You can enjoy the hustle and bustle on the Kietz on wooden benches or eat inside. Wouldn't recommend eating here, rarely, actually never, was the tzatziki portion so small!! The lamb chops were also tough, which took some getting used to. It's not worth spending the money here, there are better shops on the Kietz

It's good if you want to eat something late at night, but the shop leaves something to be desired. My portion of gyros was tasty, but also small. There are no warm side dishes such as fries, just a cold salad. Warm bread with dip is served in advance, which is also very tasty, but not enough. The waiter makes a nice impression, but also has a fine line between being stroppy and commanding. That's why I sometimes didn't feel welcome as a guest. The gyro tastes good, but it's just not enough for the price.

In my opinion, 4.3 is clearly too high. Price/performance doesn't fit. Small portions (no fries, no rice possible). I'm used to much larger portions of Greek food. The waiter (= owner?) prides himself on being “from the old school” and, in our opinion, makes inappropriate comments when I want to order food for my girlfriend. Positive: The food tasted delicious. Was recommended to us by the night watchman tour on our tour as the best Greek in St Pauli. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as fantastic as it was advertised to us. Gyros were out, the bifteki was dry, the salad wasn't great either, and I was missing rice or fries. The tzatziki wasn't like I know it from the Greeks either, with little cucumber, a lot of dill and otherwise rather bland. I also found the portions to be rather small. We sat outside so I can't say much about the ambience, it's ok I mean. The friendliness was ok and you also got an ouzo after your meal, as I usually get from Greeks. And as is often the case in Hamburg, you can only pay in cash.

It's hard to find places with such an atmosphere. Time has stopped and it has its charm, although some people will like it less than others. The food is tasty, the prices are affordable, and the owner who serves the guests does a great job.

Simply fantastic, the service is so nice and so authentic and really honest and such service. Normally I don't write reviews but I have to dream about the older, nice gentleman who does the service. I've never experienced anything so nice, and the gyros are so juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, wow. Unfortunately, I had special requests because I don't like salad and certain vegetables, and they were accommodated without any problems. Really a must in St.Pauli.

My favorite Greek restaurant in Hamburg. Just a few steps away from the Reeperbahn and Hans-Albers-Platz, I always feel at home straight away. The dishes have remained almost unchanged for decades. The price-performance ratio clearly goes in the direction of performance and quality. Finally, a piece of Greek cake and freshly made small strong coffee. Be sure to try the souvlaki. And watch the people strolling along Davidstrasse. Tourists should visit the museum opposite. In the meantime, Herbertstrasse is a great place for men to stroll and try things out.

The owner is really nice and friendly, though we arrived late in the evening,(almost closing time) but still the owner served us with all smile.. He let us enjoy our food and the place. The food is really good and the price is really comfortable. Thanks to our KIEZ Tourguide who recommended us this place.

A little highlight for me as a non-Hamburger. I walked past it so often when I was in Hamburg and then spontaneously satisfied my hunger there. And do I have it ready, no, not a piece!!! Nice little established little shop with the beautiful Fler like from the 80s. Where restaurants still looked like restaurants and pizza restaurants looked like pizza restaurants. Splendid! The food was very good. I simply ordered a portion of gyros, tzatziki and bread. Simply great and always happy again. The owner (now of advanced age) was extremely nice and made you feel welcome. As a small note... For example, when I see what a certain Stefanie.A (cough Albrecht) has left here for a review, such Almans should really be banned from writing a review. To drag a store down like that (health department, etc.) So the store was more than clean when I visited and there was no feeling that it was greasy. Ridiculous!😂 Even a chef has a bad day, so he can just open up the shame and talk about it. So easy !!! That's why it's a shame to tear the place up like that. Conclusion: If you really want to eat good Greek food and like the rustic ambience of the 80s/90s that was so common back then, we can only recommend this shop. LG

Visited with my 19-year old daughter from New York City. The owner was amazing! It was a beautiful night, we did not go inside but the outside is very cool… this coming from a born and raised downtown New Yorker. We went to be part of the whole circa 1961 Beatle experience! Lol. I’m giving it five stars even though the food wasn’t that great because it was just such a wonderful night! Prices are definitely worth it

Authentic and delicious! The hospitality is fantastic, the atmosphere is lovely. The food is hard to beat in terms of authenticity - don't expect fries with your dishes! They don't exist. There are wonderful lamb chops and a bifteki, which I'm still raving about. I would love to come back here!

Great Greek on Davidstrasse. It's been around for over 40 years and I like to eat the garlic sausages, known to Turks as sucuk. A real family business and the restaurant has a very cozy, typical St. Pauli flair here.

Always and for many years, when we are in Hamburg for concerts, "long weekends" etc..., we consciously head for this restaurant to enjoy the real Greek cuisine (without the "disturbing" side dishes of fries) in a very cozy atmosphere ) to enjoy. Delicious starters, crispy gyros, great bifteki, fresh salad, served with friendliness and warmth that we otherwise only know from Crete. It was another highlight for us today to dine at the Hellas tavern. We will definitely come back the next time we visit HH, we are already looking forward to it! Stay the way you are and please don't change anything! When can you actually give 6 stars?

If you don't shy away from a simple, honest but tasty restaurant, you've come to the right place. The wooden benches don't invite you to linger for hours, but the food is prepared with love. Anyone expecting elaborate dishes or super great dishes will be disappointed. But the large enough portions are super tasty and if you want to talk to the owner, you're in good hands here. We would love to come back, just because of the starter and the cake and dessert.

Der Kellner war sehr bemüht und freundlich, der Ouzo war sehr lecker, das Essen war allerdings bestenfalls durchschnittlich und die Portionen waren sehr überschaubar... Das Ambiente, insbesondere die Toiletten, waren sehr "rustikal" gehalten..

Die wohl kleinste Portion Gyros, die ich je gegessen habe und geschmacklich nur durchschnittlich. Das "geröstete" Brot dazu war leider verbrannt. Wir wurden nach Ankunft fast 10 min ignoriert, danach nur mäßige Freundlichkeit. Waren leider zu Faul, vorher wieder zu gehen, da Hunger zu Groß. Sind danach noch wo anders eingekehrt zum essen, da nicht satt geworden.

Simpel und lecker! Es handelt sich um ein sehr einfaches Restaurant ohne Schnickschnack, aber mit Herz und freundlicher Bedienung. Wenn man „schön essen gehen“ will, ist die Taverna Hellas eher nicht das Richtige, aber wenn man ein authentisches Gyros gegen den großen Hunger sucht, wird man hier fündig. Auch die Vorspeisen lohnen sich! Kleiner Tipp: Bleibt für den Hauptgang bei Fleisch und Brot. Der Auflauf und das Moussaka halten mit anderen griechischen Restaurants leider nicht mit.
