Taverna Eleon in Düsseldorf

This restaurant offers Greek tapas, a wide selection of dishes, most of which are delicious. Unfortunately, the location is very cramped and noisy. Card payments are not accepted, which is completely unacceptable these days, especially given the relatively high prices – the staff reacted very inappropriately to our dismay about this.

Unfortunately, they only accepted cash... so we left. It's a shame that things are still like that in 2025. We went to the Spanish restaurant around the corner; the food there was delicious.

Unfortunately, despite many recommendations, I had a bad experience here. There were three of us, and of the four dishes brought to our table, only one was actually hot. When the waiter brought the food and my cold fries, he explained that they were out of the gyros I had ordered. He then brought the remaining dishes, all of which, except for the bifteki, were lukewarm. After we complained, everything was cleared away and brought again. No one offered an apology, nor was there any compensation in the form of an ouzo or anything similar.

Authentic restaurant directly across from the Indigo Hotel. Reservations are recommended, as the Eleon is very busy. Super friendly, quick service and delicious food. Reasonable value for money.

Great food, very good value for money, super friendly staff

The cuisine is authentic, varied, and exactly what you'd expect in a good tavern. Highly recommended: the young bull ragout on eggplant purée – exceptionally good. A place to meet friends, enjoy a meal together, and simply return to.

We visited this nice little restaurant on a recommendation. The food was delicious, though not exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the grilled calamari and the farmer's salad. The portions are rather small, but the prices are on the high side. The taverna offers many small sharing dishes—ideal for a group to try different things. The service was friendly. Cash only, which is a bit inconvenient. The chairs are very uncomfortable, making them uninviting to sit and linger.

The best taramas I've had in Germany. Minus points for only accepting cash, I'd eat there more often if they would take cards, strange they don't....

I visited here for the first time, on the recommendation of a colleague. The food was delicious. Not your typical Greek restaurant with mountains of meat skewers and the usual meat dishes. More like Greek tapas at slightly higher prices. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were even allowed to park our two folded-up e-scooters in a side room. You can also sit outside, which is quite pleasant, as it's located on a quieter side street. All in all, a very nice restaurant visit!

Highly recommended. With the warm and friendly service and delicious food, I'd be happy to return.

WOW! The BEST Greek restaurant I've ever experienced!! (And I've visited many...) Go there and see for yourself! Highly recommended! I ordered the bifteki and cheese fries for pickup. It was perfect! Quick preparation, friendly staff, everything was thought of for takeaway, and it tasted fantastic! The only drawback: cash only. Prices are completely reasonable.

We went to the restaurant yesterday based on a review. Unfortunately, I wasn't particularly impressed with the dishes we ordered. The prawns weren't good, the other dishes were OK but didn't blow us away. The service, however, was really great and very friendly.

REALLY REALLY BAD BEHAVIOR OF THE OWNER!!!The restaurant was more peaceful without the owner there!! He was bossing the customers around and always aggressive!!! He does not know the word HUMILITY AND GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We wouldn’t recommend this restaurant because they became boastful without realizing it’s the good service that would sustain their businesses. After all it’s just a typical average greek restaurant. They will never give you a good experience in service but a horrible nightmare to remember instead! Very traumatic experience we had when we drove all the way from afar and wanted a good moment for dinner. Full of lies just for the e sake of money. So sad. VERY VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and HARSH OWNER. There are many other better greek restaurants in the area.

We had a table reservation, which is recommended even during the week. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food is of very high quality and freshly prepared. I highly recommend it for an all-round enjoyable evening.

Service: It was our first time there. When we walked in, it took a while for anyone to really pay attention to us. We had told them we had a reservation, and instead of the waiter we had actively approached to check our reservation, he walked out. After a short wait, we were shown to our table. Our orders were taken quickly, and the dishes were brought quickly. After a long wait, however, we had to actively call for attention again. Regarding friendliness and service, there's still room for improvement. Another negative point: cash only. Food: The dishes were truly delicious. There's nothing to complain about here. Conclusion: If the service were more courteous/attentive, we would come back.

The Eleon Tavern follows the concept of a mesé bar, which naturally has the advantage of allowing a group of three or more to try a variety of dishes. The portions are decent. The prices are standard for Düsseldorf and, as is true of other restaurants, are a bit of a drag, but here the quality is very good. The menu had some very tasty specialties that you won't find everywhere, such as the kebab jaourtlou or the grilled farmer's sausage. The service was a bit hesitant at first, but gradually relaxed, so it was a very pleasant evening and we felt at ease. I'll definitely be back.

The food is truly excellent, very authentic. When we first went there, we weren't entirely happy with the service and the high prices. However, the food and the ambiance lured us back. Our next visit had the same opinion, so we decided not to go again. After a long break and another friend's recommendation, we were once again won over by the superbly delicious food. This time, we were served by a super friendly, hospitable, and witty waitress. The gentleman truly made our visit a perfect experience. Since we were used to not getting ouzo on the house, we ordered one (very expensive). This time, they did offer one. We've been here many times. The food is always excellent, but with the exception of one waiter, the service was questionable. We would actually consider ourselves regular customers, but they don't even offer ouzo on the house for €80 for two people. Surely that should be included...? And where is that relaxed warmth that we know from Greeks? The boss always seems stressed. You get a bit of a feeling that you're being rushed through and that it's all about making money. That's okay, but the guest shouldn't notice that. Unfortunately, our last visit reminded us that it's simply too expensive and the hospitality is lacking. Our favorite waiter wasn't there (hopefully he was just on vacation?), and instead, there was new staff who didn't impress us at all. Of course, no ouzo again. I don't want to get hung up on it, but somehow that's part of the Greek feeling and hospitality with a sense of enjoyment for the guests...it's a shame, somehow.

Dortmund/Düsseldorf If you want authentic Greek food prepared and served with passion, at the highest level, this is the place for you. The selection of dishes is very good and truly typically Greek. The restaurant is located on a quiet street, and you can even sit outside without worrying. All the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The first drinks and food were on the table in no time. The dishes we ordered were made with fresh ingredients, were prepared with great skill, and tasted excellent. You almost want to congratulate the chef yourself. The service never faltered throughout the rest of the meal, and the staff managed to create an almost family-like atmosphere everywhere, even after a short time. You receive good advice: The recommendations from the menu were truly perfect, and all dishes were served piping hot within a very short time. At no point is any rush or hecticness apparent to the guest, even though almost everything was fully booked. From the reception to the service to the food, I can only give top marks. Although it all sounds like something from a Michelin-starred chef, the prices are absolutely reasonable.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, but unfortunately, the price-performance ratio isn't right. The food tastes really good, but the portions are relatively small, and not all dishes come with side dishes, so you're forced to order extras.

Very good Greek tapas-style restaurant. We had dinner there with eight people. Everyone ordered something different and then we tried everything. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, you can't pay by card! That's pretty unheard of in 2025, hence only 4 stars. Otherwise, highly recommended. What a lovely evening! We arrived without a reservation, but were still able to choose a table inside. The staff were friendly and attentive. The service was fast. The appetizers (vine leaves and tzatziki) were delicious. The main course (gyros butcher, bifteki, calamari psita) was very tasty and plentiful. The dessert (rewani) was beautifully made and typically Greek. Four people went home happy, after a delicious ouzo on the house. We'll be back to try the zucchini chips 👍

Not a nice experience. I had octopus (very dry) and tzatziki (taste was practically only garlic). After I finished I was waiting for more than 25 minutes for someone to come with dessert menu. As it didn’t happen, I stood up to pay. They don’t have electronic payment machine and they don’t say it in advance. I had to leave my ID and go to a local atm. Extremely annoying and bitter experience. Not recommended at all.

Yes, I highly recommend this place. Super friendly service and incredibly delicious tapas-style food. We had the chicken gyro, the eggplant stuffed with feta, a farmer's salad, and chicken skewers with Mythos and a Rose, followed by two espressos – GREAT. All in all, around 65 euros. A true culinary delight!!!!!!

We discovered Taverna Eleon as part of a client invitation – and I was absolutely thrilled. The food was outstanding: an exciting, varied menu, fantastic mezze, and many lovingly prepared snacks that we shared with our group. Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and simply delicious. The food was accompanied by excellent wine recommendations and warm, attentive service, just what you could wish for. The atmosphere is authentic and inviting – I'd love to have a restaurant like this at home! For me, it's clearly the best Greek restaurant I've ever visited in Germany. I highly recommend it!

We stopped by spontaneously based on several recommendations and were lucky enough to get two seats before 6 p.m. on a sunny Saturday evening. The selection of appetizers – cold, hot, meat, and fish – is huge and very delicious. We ordered, among other things, the lamb skewers (souvlaki arni) and the feta eleon (very tasty feta made in the house). For dessert, I had galaktobouriko (puff pastry filled with vanilla cream and served with vanilla ice cream – one of the best desserts I've ever had). It's best to order 2-3 appetizers (meze) depending on how hungry you are. Very friendly and attentive service. Please note: No card payments!

A different kind of Greek, a different kind of good😎 You order a bifteki, and you get a delicious piece of seasoned minced meat with a slightly different, delicious filling! Zucchini and feta cheese fritters (never had it before) Fried zucchini chips, delicious! Preliminary dish: a trilogy of tzatziki, kompanisti, and beetroot dip😉 All in all, several reasons to come back 👍

Very, very good! The food is consistently high quality, everything tastes exactly as it should. Not overpowering, not oversalted. The prices are very reasonable. Four people paid just over €110, and everyone was full and happy. A little tip: Don't get your own dishes, but share lots of different ones! My favorites: Beer-battered fish, young bull ragout, zucchini chips.

I have visited many Greek restaurants over the years, both in Greece and Europe. During our trip to Dusseldorf, we thought it would be better to eat appetizers instead of eating heavy meals in the evening. When I called them on the phone, they said they didn't have any seats (quite normal). When we went to the restaurant 2 hours later, at least 4 tables inside were empty. Maybe those who made reservations did not show up, or it could be a tactic against those who made reservations over the phone and did not show up. Let's talk about the atmosphere, it is located on a street not far from the beach, it is not a very socially active street, but it is close to the streets where public transportation passes. They have tables outside on the pavement, and as far as I understand, everyone books those tables first if the weather is nice. There is almost no decoration inside, Greek restaurants normally make you experience the Mediterranean and instill a joy of life, but unfortunately you do not experience this visually here. Unfortunately, the acoustics are very bad, flat walls echo a lot, especially if there are large groups, it is very bad. Unfortunately, we literally covered our ears because of a group of 20 people while we were there. Of course, if the place is rented, all kinds of renovations may not be allowed, but perhaps the walls can be decorated with materials that absorb sound, such as paneling, or decorative items made of foam material can be very helpful. I can't say that the appetizers were very delicious, the amount of Greek salad was a little small, the stuffing was very good, the lemon chicken was absolutely delicious, the tzatziki was also good, the baby calamari came with a very nice sauce and was very nice. The staff were generally friendly and provided service as fast as they could, I thank them very much for providing a speed well above the European average. Unfortunately, I saved something negative for last, you can't go if you don't have cash, this is the only payment method.

Food was of poor quality, (e.g. oversalted dolmades, dry gyros) and due to the quality overpriced. No credit cards accepted, which is very strange and unusual nowadays. We have been in Düsseldorf for 8 days, this was the only time, when we left the restaurant unsatisfied.

I love the atmosphere here! Small, well attended, authentic, cozy, yes noisy but that's how it is in the south ;) If you don't like that, you should probably stay at home and eat alone. The food is always great, the wine is great and I always feel welcome here. I can only recommend a visit here to everyone, it's worth it :)

We happened to walk past it on a Saturday evening so didn't have high hopes of getting a table, but we were extremely lucky! The service was very courteous and extremely attentive. The menu contains everything that makes vegetarians and meat eaters happy and tastes very good too! It felt like we were on a short vacation in Greece. The volume level was a bit disturbing but very authentic, as is usual in a Greek tavern! In summer we will definitely try out the inviting terrace!!!

Excellent place with great vibe and fab food options. Visited with my son for aquick bite and we both absolutely loved the food options and the taste. It is a small but well run place. Limited seating capacity and as I recall it was cash only when we visited which is resulting in not a perfect score. But otherwise a great place to spend time with friends over a nice drink and some great food.

There were two of us in this Greek taverna, including a friend with Greek roots. Unfortunately for us the food was not authentic and tasted disappointing. Even simple dishes were not convincing. Overall, a rather bad experience - not recommended in our opinion.

On the occasion of our visit to beautiful Düsseldorf, we were there for the second time to meet up with friends. We are very happy to have discovered Taverna Eleon because it is a beautiful tavern with very authentic Greek cuisine. The menu consists almost exclusively of mezé dishes, i.e. everything the kitchen has to offer in small portions. This means we can order many dishes together with our large table group and everyone can eat everything! Olá masí - All together, there is real Greek conviviality in the circle of friends, the paréa! The dishes are very tasty, freshly prepared, and come out of the kitchen hot and crunchy. There are a lot of vegetable dishes - really Greek! And excellent wines. The service is extremely on point and very friendly - also really Greek! All in all, it's like a little vacation. We will definitely go again next time we visit Düsseldorf. See you soon. Ta lemé!

Very spartan. The food was ok. You had to order everything individually. The homemade fries are very greasy and not recommended. Meat and salad was good. Too expensive in our opinion.

We were there for the first time yesterday. The food was great, everything tasted good to very good. One dish was too burnt for me (zucchini fritters) but the taste was TOP. Service very friendly. The price was absolutely right for us. 9-10 different cold & warm starters, bottle of wine, water, beer 120€ (3 people) suits us. ONLY it was so incredibly loud. So I didn't understand the person opposite, it wasn't possible to drink the wine comfortably. We sat down very quickly and fled from the noise. There were 2/4/6 tables occupied everywhere like we were. So no large groups that could be the cause. Our Appel Watch sounded the alarm 🤣🤣 So unfortunately a NO from us. BUT we heard it would be ok on the terrace in the summer and then we'll try it again because of the food and service 👍

The rooms are rather uncomfortable. It's very loud, bright, a bit cramped and if you sit next to the door or window it feels cold. The chairs are super uncomfortable and you really can't sit on them for very long or comfortably. The service is actually quite good and attentive. The food is tasty but not exceptional, but in a higher price range. The small portions sometimes cost as much as the usual main courses. A big problem is that you can't pay in cash here. So if you don't know beforehand how long the evening will last or how much you want to drink, you have to carry a lot of cash with you, which I actually don't like doing. That should be changed, also to counteract the accusation of tax savings. Conclusion: You can do it occasionally. I would come again, but more in summer when you can sit outside.

Loved it! After a rather disappointing experience at another Greek restaurant in Düsseldorf, a colleague recommended Taverna Eleon and I couldn’t be more grateful. The menu was excellent - we could have simply ordered from the long list of appetizers and shared plates the whole night but we had to hold back and try a few of their main plates as well. Delicious, well-presented, cozy, great service…we’ll definitely be back again and again!
