Taverna in Bamberg

We were there for the first time. I think there are better Greek restaurants. There were 9 of us and we sat in the heated winter garden (February). It was warm but quite cramped. The service was friendly and the food came pretty quickly. Large portions but I think it was a bit lacking in seasoning. I think there was too much oil in the side salad.

We received a very warm welcome and the older boss runs her restaurant with a lot of heart and passion. We felt we were in excellent hands. On the recommendation of a colleague, we chose the menu for €25 per person. The starters were served on different plates and consisted of a mix of the menu starting from beans and fish roe to musaka and bread. It was similar with the main course: Two separate plates consisting of different types of fish and meat were served. Plus spinach and tomato rice. The delicious dessert and beer for under four euros rounded off the successful evening. Everything was very tasty and rich. Any time.

We went there for the first time yesterday on the recommendation of friends - the whole staff was super friendly, the boss is like a Greek mom, there were delicious starters to try without anything being asked for, the main courses were served on very nice platters, we enjoyed ourselves just felt good! I just finished eating and it was perfect. I have rarely eaten so well and the family is very nice. Unfortunately we're just passing through here, so I won't be able to try everything here in the near future. But I can highly recommend the turkey fillet with spicy cheese sauce. My companion had the calamari which was also fresh and very good. Oh and the starter plate was also very good ;)

We were in this really typically Greek restaurant for the second time today - all the employees are just super friendly and attentive and, above all, the boss herself is the heart of the restaurant! There were four of us there, the food came really quickly. We all got ouzo, a small portion of tzatziki with bread to tickle our taste buds, and a Greek dessert to finish - and it was all on the house. The portion sizes were very good. Two beers and a tzatziki were missing from the bill, so of course we brought this up and paid accordingly. The only negative point was the extreme loudness of the guests on site that evening, so conversation at "normal" volume was almost impossible - but the restaurant owner can't do anything about that. We would love to come back!

The service is first class!! You wait a maximum of 10 minutes for the starter, everyone is absolutely on their toes! The food tastes delicious, portions are perfect, all in all simply excellent!

The food was as always... simply delicious 😋. The service was not entirely satisfactory. Since we were sitting in the next room, right at the back, at the long row of tables for over 20 people, some of the starters didn't even reach us. We therefore had to ask several times, which I don't think went over very well. The tables (nine tables for two) were also much too small and therefore there was little space for all the dishes. The room itself was far too cold and cold air from outside was coming in from every nook and cranny so we had to cover ourselves with our scarves. That was a real shame 😌, because I personally really like the place and especially the boss. 🥰

I really liked it, I can recommend it, only the service responded late to empty glasses.

I went with my husband. We wanted to eat Greek fish dishes. We asked Cheffin’s recommendation. The nice, pretty boss thought of a menu for two people and it was wonderful. First comes Greek bread and yoghurt and fish egg sauce, then salad, and a large seafood dish and at the end such a delicious dessert. Everything was very well seasoned with oil, vinegar, and lemon　grilled, especially the squid, which was very tender and had the first texture I had eaten so far. Everything wonderful and very cheap. It was a great experience for us. I highly recommend here! Above all, the boss's character is so sweet and a super nice woman. I want to see them again, and I want to come back for that❤️

There were 5 of us there yesterday. All the food was mixed up. The waitress could hardly speak any German and felt overwhelmed. What was very stupid was that the rice was out and the coleslaw on a Thursday at 7.30 p.m. These are not the standard staple foods of the Greeks. There were fried potatoes. Great, that's what I want at the Greek restaurant. The food was ok so far but nothing special. All average.

I love Georgios Tavern. The dishes are not only delicious, but also made from fresh, natural ingredients. The portions are really big and the atmosphere feels so authentic that you feel like you are in the middle of Greece staying with a large, loving family 🥰 The staff is very attentive and warm, which perfectly rounds off an already wonderful experience . Great restaurant. The hosts are very warm, you always feel welcome. The food is the absolute highlight. Everything is freshly prepared. Even in Greece you don't eat any better.

The outstanding Greek in the area. We came from behind Bayreuth for this! Super nice service. The mommy does it. But the food is insane. Everything fresh. Fish is just right, that's how things should taste that are usually only available in cans (e.g. taramas). Insider tip: the Taramas. And: don't order anything from the menu, just tell the boss to just put something together for you. Anyone who goes beyond the appetizers has already earned a hard-working star.

The best Greek restaurant in Bavaria! Including family Greek flair. The ingredients are very fresh, authentic and of high quality (not canned). The kitchen knows its craft very well. I especially recommend the fried mussels as an appetizer.

Greek hospitality is known everywhere. But the boss here goes one better. Absolutely every effort to ensure that you are satisfied and feel comfortable. Kitchen recommended. Portions large and appropriate for the price. Price/performance absolutely fine. I would say something outside the center - insider tip :) (Parking is possible, although there are mostly residential parking spaces on the street)

We came with the family and were warmly welcomed. The service and friendliness of the staff and landlady are really, as is often written here: Great! Not exaggerated, not fake, just warm. The restaurant was busy all evening - it's worth making a reservation and being on time. We each had a starter (and also got lots of bread and tzatziki on the house!) and a main course. Everything was well seasoned and really tasty. The lamb and generally the meat and fish dishes were very tasty and we would eat here again at any time. To round things off there was a delicious cake - although it's not on the menu at all, it's even better than the ouzo that's typically available in Greek restaurants anyway. All in all a great evening at a very fair price. If I would improve something it would be that smokers don't sit directly in front of the open restaurant door and the cigarette smoke wafts directly into the dining room...

The owner is a super lovely lady. The service was amazing. Sadly, none of my friends loved their meal. It was not bad it was just not great . Other Greek places in Bamberg have better food but Taverna Georgios has better service.

So. Put it that way. Compared to other Greek locations, this taverna stands out. We didn't order ala Kart, but were surprised with 9 people. This also works vegetarian. The starter and main course were common and tasty anyway. There was also dessert for those who made it. Prices reasonable. We were happy to tip. Very attentive service and a caring operator round off the whole thing. An experience. Thank you for this evening. Unfortunately I could only give it five stars.

You come as a stranger and they treat you as if you were a family friend. ...and then the food...so delicious that the gods leave their ambrosia and come to Bamberg to feast. A great restaurant with a great team.

I went to this restaurant based on a recommendation and I was really impressed. One of the best Greek restaurants I've been to so far. Nothing off the shelf, everything homemade, everything fresh and very tasty. The boss herself goes from table to table and sometimes sits down for a chat. 😊 You don't go here to "just" eat - Greek cuisine is lived here! Very impressive and now damn hard to find. I'll definitely be back.

Clearly my regular Greek in Bamberg! You would think that a Greek restaurant is only characterized by gyros, souvlaki, bifteki etc., and not just in "Georgios"! My daughter is vegan and I'm not averse to vegan dishes either! And here you get your money's worth! What the kitchen here conjures up with beans, peas, lentils and the like are culinary delicacies! Creations of your own request are also happy to be prepared here! 5 stars for the “Georgios”!

The service is generally friendly but unfortunately it hardly listens to requests and you wait a long time for little things. The food was extremely oversalted. When I went back and got something new, it was exactly the same salty. Just because you didn't finish everything in the end because it was too salty or simply too much, you'll probably be told 10 times to PLEASE order less next time. It was also more expensive than expected, the four of us had a total of 2 starters, a main course and a drink, charging 110€ for that is steep even for today's times. There is no next time, not recommended.

On the spur of the moment, while driving from the west towards my home in northeastern Upper Franconia, I googled for a Greek restaurant on the highway and found the Taverna Georgios in Bamberg. When we arrived around 5 p.m., almost everything was still empty, as it was just opening, after a friendly Kalispera from us, we were also greeted very friendly and our request as to whether there was still space for 5 people was immediately answered by 3 people, who tried to make everything possible despite the obvious “booking out” of the terrace for the evening. So we got a table on the terrace, even though the reservation book that the boss/son brought was actually almost full. Our order was taken quickly, an ouzo shortened the waiting time, the drinks we ordered and the first appetizers arrived after just a few minutes. The main courses were amazing and we were served a few things that we hadn't ordered. The mother/mom of the house later came to our table and brought a few things to try. In short, it was the crowning conclusion of a short holiday weekend for us, the only thing that was unfortunately missing was the sound of the sea and should we be in Bamberg again, we will definitely try to visit Taverna Georgios again, then with a reservation. Thank you for the lovely evening. Oh yes, when we went, despite it being a Monday evening, almost all the tables were occupied, I think by locals, that actually speaks for itself, as do the pictures of us! 1*****

We were inspired by reviews to visit Taverna Georgios on a Sunday evening. The attributes literally spill over into superlatives in comments and ratings (4.8 out of 5 points). Here, for example, it is stated that you were a guest of friends in a family atmosphere and had a phenomenal, unforgettable experience. Furthermore, the service is exceptional, friendly and completely perfect. During our visit, however, the current situation was completely different: There was no greeting whatsoever and the menus were left at the table without a word from the generally overwhelmed and unfriendly service staff. The “cold drinks” we ordered were warm, but the actually “warm starters” turned out cold served. The main courses were not seasoned in a typical way and were almost tasteless, and the side salad was dominated by salt. The pushy boss had an expressly self-promoting evening and expressed herself in an unacceptable manner. Summary: It is not even remotely understandable how such an overall rating from the reviewers can come about.

Unfortunately I was surprised by the opposite of most of the reviews here. The service was careless and unaccommodating. The drinks were warm. The starters were bland and tasteless. The food was uncharacteristically little for a Greek. An ice cream scoop full of rice that was cold and fries that were carelessly arranged on a board. In addition, a very pushy boss who was very confident in herself and her restaurant. There is no goodbye.

The friendly innkeepers have lovingly created a small Greek oasis of well-being on the less than idyllic street not far from the train station, opposite a parking garage.

The restaurant is run with a lot of heart and passion. The food is perfect and the meat is on point and juicy. I have finally found the perfect Greek for me... Highly recommended and you have won me as a regular customer 👍
