The service is generally friendly but unfortunately it hardly listens to requests and you wait a long time for little things. The food was extremely oversalted. When I went back and got something new, it was exactly the same salty. Just because you didn't finish everything in the end because it was too salty or simply too much, you'll probably be told 10 times to PLEASE order less next time. It was also more expensive than expected, the four of us had a total of 2 starters, a main course and a drink, charging 110€ for that is steep even for today's times. There is no next time, not recommended.

I've never eaten anywhere so great! Absolute world class!!!! Including various culinary surprises from the kitchen. Anyone who doesn't eat here is missing out!

I can only agree with my predecessors here, I only ordered take-away and was warmly welcomed, generous portions in relation to the low price and also very tasty. Short waiting time... Definitely worth a recommendation. ☺️

On the spur of the moment, while driving from the west towards my home in northeastern Upper Franconia, I googled for a Greek restaurant on the highway and found the Taverna Georgios in Bamberg. When we arrived around 5 p.m., almost everything was still empty, as it was just opening, after a friendly Kalispera from us, we were also greeted very friendly and our request as to whether there was still space for 5 people was immediately answered by 3 people, who tried to make everything possible despite the obvious “booking out” of the terrace for the evening. So we got a table on the terrace, even though the reservation book that the boss/son brought was actually almost full. Our order was taken quickly, an ouzo shortened the waiting time, the drinks we ordered and the first appetizers arrived after just a few minutes. The main courses were amazing and we were served a few things that we hadn't ordered. The mother/mom of the house later came to our table and brought a few things to try. In short, it was the crowning conclusion of a short holiday weekend for us, the only thing that was unfortunately missing was the sound of the sea and should we be in Bamberg again, we will definitely try to visit Taverna Georgios again, then with a reservation. Thank you for the lovely evening. Oh yes, when we went, despite it being a Monday evening, almost all the tables were occupied, I think by locals, that actually speaks for itself, as do the pictures of us! 1*****

We went there for the first time yesterday on the recommendation of friends - the whole staff was super friendly, the boss is like a Greek mom, there were delicious starters to try without anything being asked for, the main courses were served on very nice platters, we enjoyed ourselves just felt good! Thanks for the great hospitality!

It's just amazing. I've never experienced anything like it.... And I go out to eat very often! The food is really amazing 😊 What I really liked were the surprises that just came along. We ate comfortably for almost 3 hours because surprises kept coming 💓 It's definitely worth going to the restaurant! But take some time with you A big compliment also to the boss, she is so loving and kind. She really puts her heart and soul into it 😊 The trip from Schweinfurt district will definitely be worth it to me in the future 👍

We were inspired by reviews to visit Taverna Georgios on a Sunday evening. The attributes literally spill over into superlatives in comments and ratings (4.8 out of 5 points). Here, for example, it is stated that you were a guest of friends in a family atmosphere and had a phenomenal, unforgettable experience. Furthermore, the service is exceptional, friendly and completely perfect. During our visit, however, the current situation was completely different: There was no greeting whatsoever and the menus were left at the table without a word from the generally overwhelmed and unfriendly service staff. The “cold drinks” we ordered were warm, but the actually “warm starters” turned out cold served. The main courses were not seasoned in a typical way and were almost tasteless, and the side salad was dominated by salt. The pushy boss had an expressly self-promoting evening and expressed herself in an unacceptable manner. Summary: It is not even remotely understandable how such an overall rating from the reviewers can come about.

The food was a dream, so delicious 😋. Everything tastes so good and you can tell that it's all homemade. The boss is really nice and funny, hospitable and takes care of the guests. Me and my daughter and my sister and her family felt so comfortable there as if we were in Greece. We go there more often. THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Unfortunately I was surprised by the opposite of most of the reviews here. The service was careless and unaccommodating. The drinks were warm. The starters were bland and tasteless. The food was uncharacteristically little for a Greek. An ice cream scoop full of rice that was cold and fries that were carelessly arranged on a board. In addition, a very pushy boss who was very confident in herself and her restaurant. There is no goodbye.

Sour grilled sardines, no draft beer and unseasoned risotto. Beer garden without charm and service with a lack of competence.

The friendly innkeepers have lovingly created a small Greek oasis of well-being on the less than idyllic street not far from the train station, opposite a parking garage.

I celebrated my birthday there with my family last night and I was simply thrilled. There were eight of us and right at the beginning we were told in a very nice way that today was because... It could take some time due to a lack of staff. But the time was passed very sweetly for us. The service was super friendly, “Mama” was a lovely example of “la mama”. The food was excellent and I had a really nice birthday. After dinner there was also a serenade from “Mama” and a candle on dessert. We will definitely be visiting friends there again soon. The motto has never been better.

At the risk of making this seem like too positive a review: “Like visiting friends” is an understatement here. (To be honest, I only have a few friends who care for me like that 😉) From the greeting to taking the order, to food and payment. From start to finish: absolutely loving and at the same time an excellent service. All the tables in the restaurant are usually fully packed, and as some write, it's not just "like mom is cooking" - here mom actually cooks all the dishes herself! But I'll let the pictures do the talking. The only disadvantages: - as is often the case, when it's so delicious, we definitely recommend making a reservation :) & - no matter what you decide to do, you always eat more than planned 😊

The picture shows the meal I have already started. It was very delicious. And the portion was big. I particularly liked the fact that I got bread, tzatziki and an ouzo as a free "introduction" to the meal. The service was very friendly and helpful.

Never had Greek food as good as in Taverna Georgios. Great, everything fresh and homemade. Large portions at a good price. The meat, everything was nice and juicy, nothing dry. There are Greeks in Bamberg and the surrounding area who are significantly more expensive and nowhere near as good. The staff was very nice, friendly and attentive. And the tzatziki, delicious as a welcome from the house. We will come to eat regularly.

Everything was super delicious! A big compliment goes to the lady of the house, who gave us a very warm welcome and was the icing on the cake of our visit because of her warm and funny nature. There was even a dessert on the house ❤️ We'll be back!

Very nice landlady and cook with very tasty and fresh food. A large selection of meat dishes and various starters. The drinks prices in particular are very humane. The only point of criticism is the lack of a changing table for children.

Honestly, eating there is an experience. The cooking here is still done according to mother's instructions (when she isn't in the kitchen herself). The menu itself is m.m.n. More of a guideline for the selection of dishes and wishes, no matter how unusual, are happy to be taken into account. Relatively normal prices, as they are common these days, round off the overall experience and if you like vegetarian food, it's best to let us know when making your reservation.

There are many good Greek restaurants in the area. We visited many. Tavern Georgios tops them all. Best quality, staff super friendly and above all authentic. You feel like you're in Greece. The boss lives her job. A special direct, familiar and hospitable manner is unparalleled. We would like to come again. Tim and Susanne

Wonderful restaurant, warm atmosphrere and delicious, hearty dishes prepared just for you. Also, you are welcomed with ouzo and homemade bread on the house and get a complimentary dessert. This is one of the few restaurants me and my husband definitely will visit again in the not so distant future!

Have to wholeheartedly agree with the other reviews here. Their service is something truly out of the ordinary these days. The lady who is running things in particular is very nice and warm. The food is spectacular as well, plus this being a classy greek taverna, you might get lovely little side dishes as well. We don't even live in Bamberg, but we will seriously consider doing the 1 hour trip to get here in order to get served here again.

Set new standards! I have lived in Europe for 30 years and have never had such an amazing experience. The people of Bamberg call the restaurant “Zur Mama” because Mama, obviously the boss of the family business, is constantly and friendly present. The place isn't big, it's a little crowded because it's so incredibly popular, but it's so popular because it's so fantastic. The food is as good as it gets, with more than enough choice for every guest, including vegetarians and vegans. Special requests are no problem. The staff is amazingly friendly and efficient too, and there are enough staff to look after guests well. Each table gets free appetizers AND dessert. And every now and then Mom comes over to tell the table that they're getting extras like a plate of fava beans or a special rice dish to share. When we were finished and more than satisfied with our fill, we were asked if we would like coffee. I said an espresso would be nice, but they don't have espresso. They only have real Greek mocha, which of course I had to try. Precious! When the bill came, only the drinks (the beer still only cost €3.70) and the main courses ordered were on the bill. All the extras were free, even the coffee was free! This is a truly warm, welcoming and high quality restaurant that makes you feel like you are in another world where you would like to stay forever if you could. We forgot to take pictures!
