Mega beautiful restaurant with great ambience, really good German food and absolutely friendly and attentive staff

The staff made every effort, were extremely friendly, and created a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the food. It's a bit of a tourist trap. It looks nice and is in a good location, but the food simply leaves a lot to be desired. The fries are barely salted, and the schnitzel is far too thick. If the schnitzel isn't pounded flat, it usually indicates that it's frozen. The meat was absolutely stringy, and the sauce was extremely weak and watery. I paid over €30 for a schnitzel with chanterelle mushrooms and a Coke. We also got a portion of fries for two people. No offense, but anyone who charges such prices has to maintain a certain quality standard. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I didn't like it.

Average food at above-average prices Almost €30 for a schnitzel with a small Coke is quite a statement – ​​especially when the dish unfortunately doesn't quite live up to its reputation. The schnitzel was quite thick and somewhat stringy, and the sauce tasted rather watery. When we asked if we could have fries instead of the croquettes, we were granted this – but we only received a small portion, which we had to share between the two (see picture). The friendly staff and the cozy outdoor atmosphere deserve special mention – certainly a nice place for a beer, especially in summer. However, the food still has room for improvement, especially considering the price.

We were there for dinner last Friday. No problem with our dog. Very friendly service, and the food is home-style and honest. We haven't had such good roast beef with onions in a long time. We thoroughly enjoyed it there; we would go back in a heartbeat – if it weren't so far from home...

Well, the menu promised "hunter's schnitzel," and we wanted fried potatoes instead of fries. The extra charge was €3 per portion. We expected simply super-good fried potatoes. Oops, the "schnitzel" wasn't flattened or breaded. The "fried potatoes" were just boiled potatoes that had been briefly fried in a pan to warm them up.

Very friendly service, home-style cooking, and the pork schnitzel with spaetzle (the sauce :-) was amazing! Highly recommended!

We stopped by the Taunus Hof today by chance. We were warmly welcomed by the chef and given a spot in the sun 🌞. The food was excellent, home-style, fresh and homemade. The chef himself goes from table to table, asking if everything is okay. As we leave, we shake hands warmly, wishing everyone safe travels and a safe journey. We'll be happy to come back.

The TAUNUSHOF has a welcoming terrace in the pedestrian zone of Bad Idstein's old town. Friendly service, and the homemade Camembert with cranberries was delicious. I'd be happy to come back. What I particularly liked was that the owner and his staff helped a wheelchair user into the restaurant, as the entrance is not wheelchair accessible. 10 stars for that.

The three of us went out to eat today. The food was fantastic, the prices reasonable, and the service excellent. We'd happily go back again.

Centre of town and and the meals was very nice. Plates were oversized and left us positively glowing ... Maybe that was the snaps from Taunus brauerei 🤗

We actually just wanted a cake and a coffee for lunch but then had to order a whole lunch because the kitchen was probably overcrowded and couldn't do that otherwise (??). Wild mushrooms were a bit rubbery and the spaetzle was more noodles than spaetzle. Kaiserschmarren was much too firm and was brought with cherries even though it was ordered with applesauce and even after asking, no applesauce was brought. Not recommended, won't come back!

I was in beautiful Idstein yesterday and had a wonderful meal at the Taunushof! The hunter's schnitzel with fries and salad was delicious! The staff were also very friendly and accommodating! I'd love to come back!

Idstein is a lovely town and Taunushof is at the middle of the town. We were there for lunch at a daily tour but next time definetely will come to stay in this romantic hotel. The meals we had (four different courses) were all delicious. Highly recommended...

Slept one night in the hotel. Room at the front on the 1st floor of an authentic Fachwerk house in the middle of the beautiful center. Room with the most beautiful view of the historic medieval gate (5☆). Nice bed with ditto bedding. Clean room and bathroom, dated and small size (3☆), but well maintained. Breakfast was available, but not that weekend due to lack of staff (3☆). There is a large bakery 100 m away where you can have breakfast on Sundays from 8 am. Parking tip: free, a 5-minute walk away at the P Am Schloss. Check-in is only possible between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM and after 5:00 PM (3☆). Great place for a stopover, right on the A3. Tip: eat at Zum Schwanen restaurant!

We ate there for the Christmas market on Saturday. The food was very good, delicious roast beef with onions. Friendly service. Prices were the same as usual. On Sunday lunchtime, they also had a spit-roasted roll with onions at the stand...superb...buttery soft meat. Definitely worth the €7.50.

About a week ago we had dinner at the Taunushof. The fried potatoes had nothing to do with fried. They seemed like pure boiled potatoes that had little flavor. They were all already swimming in the sauce. So I couldn't even avoid the really bad, watery sauce. I have rarely been so disappointed with a meal; I have literally lost my appetite. The waitress was polite and asked what was wrong with the food. However, the criticism achieved absolutely nothing. Nobody apologized for the food. For example, we could have been offered a drink on the house, so that we could at least see their effort and compensation. Unfortunately, none of that. Based on my experiences, I can only advise against eating here. It's very nice to sit there, but that was the only positive thing... Over €50 wasted...

It's been a long time since we've eaten here again and we were impressed by both the offerings and the taste, but above all the excellent service. I had an onion roast with homemade fried potatoes and a very good dark sauce. Gladly again.!

I was there with 2 friends eating outside in very nice surroundings. There was also light beer, salads and hand cheese to tide over the (surprisingly short) waiting time. Onion schnitzel with cream sauce and the pasta with chicken were ordered and prepared very confidently. The quality and service were top and would be recommended. The portions were nicely prepared and you were more than full. As a small bonus of sympathy, I was also allowed to charge my cell phone in the restaurant upon kind request. I'll go there more often 👍

The schnitzel was ok. Unfortunately (I don't remember what the variation is called) there wasn't enough tomato sauce and cheese on the schnitzel, so we had to order additional mayonnaise for the fries. €0.50 for a bag is quite expensive considering the high price of a pork schnitzel and little else around it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. It's really nice to sit outside. Overall, it's too expensive for what you get on your plate.

Had reserved a table outside for the evening. We were seated very nicely, drinks were taken quickly. We ordered tomato soup and a starter salad. The soup was warm and very tasty, unfortunately the salad didn't come the whole time and we kept being put off... Unfortunately, the asparagus menu only had meat, no fish and no vegetarian alternative. However, upon request, it was possible to get asparagus with salmon fillet (salmon from the pasta). It was very tasty, unfortunately the potatoes were completely soaked in butter... We also ordered the pasta with various mushrooms, which were also delicious, and the Hubertus schnitzel. Unfortunately there are only fries and croquettes as a side dish... the schnitzel came... unfortunately already cold... the plate was cold... and the croquettes were missing So you can't bring out a plate if the only side dish is missing and the food is already cold... so it's been in the kitchen for a long time If you only have fries and croquettes on the menu, you should always cook them in the deep fryer so that you have enough for every order!! Supposedly the croquettes were supposed to arrive in a few minutes...we were almost finished eating when they arrived. The salad was simply left with the main course (no excuse or guilty conscience), even though the salad is on the menu as a starter and was ordered that way... Unfortunately the second beer didn't come either, despite the reminder.

Lunch for three people: two rump steaks with pepper sauce and one asparagus. The meat is of high quality and served exactly medium, asparagus cooked to perfection with delicious hollandaise. This time again a good meal in a pleasant atmosphere.

Das Restaurant hat eine gute Lage, mitten in der Altstadt, mit Blick auf die umliegenden historischen Gebäuden. Das Bier ist gut, das Personal bemüht, der Grundton den Gästen gegenüber allerdings nicht Kundenfreundlich (die Anweisungen kommen allerdings vom Chef, dafür können die Servicekräfte nichts). Das Essen kann ich nur bedingt empfehlen. Es ist eher unteres Mittelmaß, Kritik nimmt der Chef persönlich und wird unprofessionell, beleidigend. An diesem Wochenende war/ist Herbstmarkt in Idstein, weswegen das Restaurant sehr ausgelastet war. Vermutlich könnte dies zu der schlechten Stimmung und dem schlechten Essen geführt haben, allerdings würde ich mir als zahlender Gast etwas anderes wünschen. Wir waren zum Abendessen dort und der Besuch hat unseren schönen Tag in Idstein getrübt. Wirklich kein schöner Abschluss. Wir haben beschlossen, nicht mehr wieder zu kommen. Idstein bietet in unmittelbarer Nähe bessere Lokalitäten an.

Sehr schöner Gasthof. Tolle Lage und sehr nettes Personal. Wir haben Maultaschen Suppe und Bandnudeln mit Hähnchenbrust in Rahmsoße bestellt und das war beides sehr, sehr lecker. Von uns gerne, fünf Sterne.

Wer ein paar Tage in Idstein verbringen will ist hier genau richtig! Saubere Zimmer,sehr gutes Essen und freundlicher Service! Sehr zu empfehlen!

Lovely place to stay located in the heart of Idstein. I arrived on a rest day but was still received by a friendly host. The room was furnished with rustic furniture, the bed was a bit squeaky but otherwise very comfortable, the bathroom was nice and clean. It was a bit dark as the room had smaller windows but I enjoyed my stay very much. Breakfast was served in the hotel's restaurant, the selection was great and also had some variation between days. I didn't have time to try the other meals served throughout the day but it seemed to be popular with people overall. Good value for the price paid for the room as well as breakfast.

Waren zum wiederholten Male dort zum Essen und sind wie immer glücklich, gesättigt und zufrieden nachhause gegangen! Taunushof bzw das Essen dort wird FRISCH zubereitet, anders als von einigen Laien hier behauptet wird. Sehr traurig auch, dass manche Gäste nicht mehr "sachlich" sondern eher " fachlich beleidigend" kommentieren. Viel Meinung aber wenig bis gar kein Wissen ;-) Danke an alle Kollegen/Gastronomen, die sich so etwas an Program noch antun, ihr Helden 👍👑

The location is of course great, so my husband and I decided to go to this restaurant. at first we were told that if we wanted to stay, we must definitely buy a full meal. We agreed, the waiter left and disappeared, we waited 20 minutes, when he came out, he was surprised and said "I thought you would leave." but since we were hungry and waited a long time, we still ordered the dishes that we chose, not paying attention to the successful rudeness, but it would be better if we left. The food was very greasy and served as if we were not paying for it, but begging for it. First time they didn't leave a tip. It's a pity that such an unfriendly establishment stands in such a beautiful place.

Wir waren zum Essen dort und haben einen schönen Tisch bekommen.Der Service war sehr freundlich und kompetent. Wir waren 5 Leute und der Platz war ausreichend. Getränke und Essen waren schnell aufgenommen und am Tisch. Das Rumsteak war top und der Spargel sehr lecker. Empfehlenswert.

Yummy German food. Fast service, friendly staff, good prices. Our waiter spoke English and was very attentive.

Es war einfach toll Essen hervorragend. Besser geht nicht. Die Familie Scheibe ist eine Institution im Idstein. Schon in meiner Kinder- und Jugendzeit war sie präsent. Auf dem Campingplatz. Im Schwimmbad Treppe rauf, schon waran da auf der Terrasse.

Traditionell deftige Küche zu vernünftigen Preisen. Hat alles sehr lecker geschmeckt, gemütliche Atmosphäre 😊

Waren dort Essen. Service war freundlich und nett. Das Essen selbst, ich hatte ein Cordon Blue mit Pommes, hat mich nicht überzeugt. 5,- Euro für ein großes Bier ist auch schon ein Wort.

Im Zentrum des Altstadtbezirks von Idstein befindet sich ein wirklich schönes Restaurant namens Taunushof. Der Service ist ausgezeichnet, das Essen ist köstlich und das Personal ist sehr freundlich und professionell. Wir haben unsere Zeit im Taunushof Idstein sehr genossen und möchten bald wiederkommen. Ich würde dieses Restaurant wärmstens empfehlen.

Gutbürgerliche deutsche Küche, guter und netter Service, tolles Ambiente, super gelegen, Preis-Leistung perfekt und einfach zu empfehlen.

Wir haben hier gut gegessen. Oktoberfestzeit und es gab Haxe mit Knödeln und Schlupfnudeln mi Sauerkraut. Beides frisch und lecker. Draußen sitzt man gut mit herrlicher Sicht auf hessischen Fachwerk. Auch innen ist das Lokal sehr ansprechend und gemütlich.

Das Servicepersonal war aufmerksam und freundlich, leider haben uns die Speisen mehr als enttäuscht, der Zwiebelrostbraten war ein in glutamathaltiger Soße schwimmender Schmorrbraten (wenn überhaupt) und das Wiener Schnitzel hat nach nichts geschmeckt und war für ein Schnitzel auch viel zu dick. Beilagen waren in Ordnung.

Wir wurden zügig bedient, alles war top, bis die Hauptspeise kam. Wir kommen häufig in Duitsland und bestellen manchmal Schweinehaxe. Das haben wir auch bei Taunushof gemacht. Leider war diese Schweinehaxe nicht richtig gebacken. Wir haben Entschuldigungen erhalten von der Wert und der Küchenkoch. Trotzdem mussten wir alles bezahlen, eine Kafee darfen wir umsonst haben, das haben wir aber abgelehnt. Ich würde Im Taunushof nie wieder essen. Schade weil das Bier und der Wein waren ganz lecker.

We werden als groep (42 personen) zeer hartelijk verwelkomd en de maaltijd was uitstekend verzorgd en zeer lekker.

Tolles Essen ,Nette Bedienung, Immer Freundlich und zuvorkommend...auch die Lage in der Ortsmitte ist phantastisch

Die Auswahl beim Frühstück war sehr mangelhaft! Abends haben Hausgäste keine Möglichkeit im eigenen Hotel zu essen! Mittelmäßiges Frühstück! Hotel in Top Lage!.

Wir (Paar mit Kind) sind ohne Anmeldung an einem Samstag Mittag dort eingefallen. Wir bekamen einen ordentlichen Platz im etwas einfacher gehaltenen hinteren Teil des Restaurants. Wir haben neben einer Zwiebelsuppe als Vorspeise zwei Rumpsteaks bestellt. Das Fleisch war gut und einwandfrei zubereitet. Speiseeis als Nachtisch war auch gut. Alles in allem ein Restaurant mit dessen Wahl man keinen Fehler macht.

An einem der schönsten Plätze Hessens gelegen. Vor allem im Sommer, wenn man draußen sitzen kann, ist es wirklich wunderschön....
