Fantastic!! I came here with my dad on our Europe motorcycle trip. There wasn’t many restaurants open at that time, so I found this on Google maps. We went and the food was great! A proper Indian restaurant in the middle of a German town, you’d never expect it lol. Service excellent, food excellent. 5 star

We ate wonderful sushi and great ramen. The meat is generally very high quality and doesn't taste like it comes from a foreign poultry farm, where antibiotics are distributed like feed. Authentic Japanese cuisine. Even Japanese tourists had happy faces! Very nice manager, waitress, and cook! (I think she does everything herself and so quickly! Remarkable!!!)

Being Originally from India, We are a bit fussy when it comes to trying Indian food abroad. We had one of the best Indian food at the Taj Mahal restaurant in Rothenburg! The flavors were very good and authentic! The owner was also very nice to us and made sure all our requests were met! When in Rothenburg- you must try this wonderful restaurant!

We were so happy to stumble upon Taj Mahal restaurant on our recent roadtrip to Germany! The people are so nice and even accommodated special requests for us. The food was absolutely delicious and the people are so wonderful! Just loved coming here and hope to see them on our next visit!

Once again, we had some incredibly delicious food, fantastic service, and even though they were closing, we still managed to enjoy the fantastic meal. It's truly worth recommending! They truly value their hospitality!

Amazed by this restaurant. The food was amazing and mouthwatering. It’s really appreciated that the owner of the restaurant made such a lovely location and excellent food. Always full with European visitors. Desi food and you will enjoy. Ambience is fantastic. And the staffs are really friendly and supportive to order the right choices. They have another branch in Salzburg , we visited there too. But staff I like here the most.

Considering it's hidden in the Hotel Schwarzer Adler, it's a very good culinary experience. If I ever come back to Rothenburg, I'll go there again.

Nice Indian food. I had a vindaloo, which (for a Brit) was super-mild, but tasty anyway. The cauliflower side dish was very nice.

We ordered takeaway two weeks back. It was shocking to see the quantity of the food they packed. The box contained very less food for that price. Totally dissatisfied. We totally ordered for €80. But didn't get the quantity of food worth that.

I recently visited this Indian restaurant. Unfortunately, the food had a very unpleasant smell. This made it difficult to enjoy the meal. I would not recommend this restaurant based on my experience. Hopefully, they can address this issue.

Very good food. Among the best Indian food we have eaten. We had lamb jalfrezi and chicken tikka masala. If there was any request it would have been a little thicker naan bread but that's just a small quibble. We sat outside, don't know what the environment is like inside.

Delicious food, definitely plenty of it. Butter chicken was very good. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. We sat outside. Unfortunately, the ground is very uneven, and the tables are crooked.

Ive had Indian food in a dozen countries and this is the best Indian I've ever had. They gave so much rice and they gave this tasty appetizor for free with three delicous sauces. The multani shorba was one of the best Indian soups I've ever had. We ordered chicken vindaloo and the chicken tikka sabsi with butter naan and it was extremely good. Highly recommend

This restaurant was such an unexpected and delightful find in the sleeping town of Rothenburg ODT. The food, service and ambience was delectable. The owner went above and beyond to help us navigate through the town.

Had been craving home food for a few days so finally came across this place as we were busting the city. Spontaneously decided to sit down. The staff was very friendly and gracious. We ordered the Paneer Lababdar, Tandoori Chicken Tikka Masala along with butter naan. Food was fabulous and not the “German-Indian” version kind. Rather authentic and not shy of flavour. As a Punjabi will definitely recommend the place. A small piece of home away from home through the tastebuds. Enjoyed the evening!

The food here is simply outstanding. If you’re Indian and missing the taste of home, this place is a must-visit. I’ve traveled to many countries and tried Indian cuisine in countless cities, but the flavors here truly hit home — in fact, it’s better than many places back in India! The dal makhani deserves a special mention — it tastes just like a proper homemade version, not the usual cream-heavy version you find elsewhere. The tandoori chicken, mutton boti, and kadhai paneer were all perfectly spiced, cooked to perfection, and incredibly satisfying. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better Indian food experience during my trip. Highly recommended to anyone craving real, authentic Indian food. This place is a definite hit — not a miss.

We ordered the veg thali for two €35.90. Little disappointing that it does not include 1 or 2 pcs of roti while all items in thali are all sabzi and 1 dal makhni. We ordered a garlic nan separately and hence the rice that came with thali was sufficient. If you take just the rice, you would feel qty is not good. Also in my expectation, a thali should come with a papad and sweet as well. The price is above average. The staff are nice and welcoming. Overall good experience. Lot of scope to improve the thali.

Delicious food with great staff. My normal rules are never eat in or near tourist sites, but I’m glad I ate here regardless. The Gobi left me looking for online recipes, and the Saag was probably the best I’ve had. Don’t pass on this gem.

Food was really tasty. However, what spoiled our evening: it was unhygienic. The tablecloth was stained, crumbs were still on the table. When the food was served, the waiter's hands were touched several times. Too bad!

I've tried many Indian curries in the past, but the curry here was really delicious. We ordered chicken butter curry, chicken spinach curry, and mangola seed, and it was a choice we did not regret.

Wooow, just super delicious (Alu Gobhi/Biryani). The spices were so well balanced. The spiciness is also perfect for my sensitive palate. The portion was just right. I'm totally thrilled and can definitely recommend it!!!

5.5/10 We visited Taj Mahal rothenburg during our day trip from Munich. This is the only Indian restaurant which is available in the old town and hospitality by the gentlemen are good. I would like to provide a mixed review here. To start with - Food We had vegetarian items from the menu. The Bombay aloo, bhindi masala, butter naan, Masala parata. The Bombay aloo was average. It was bit oily. After eating we found the color of the food struck to our hand. Either it is turmeric or food color, requesting to reduce it. In case of food color please avoid it. The bhindi masala was good in taste with naan and parata. The bread were good, again bit oily. Can reduce it to an extent. Each gravy is accompanied with sumptuous amount of rice. Price and Location On price point of view it is little bit expensive- as it is in Tourist location. Does not match Price Performance Ratio. The location is walkable by foot and it is close to the church. Feedback- Thanks Gentleman provided us plain curd on request, appreciate the warmth.Our overall experience was average.

Went in just for tea and samosas after dining elsewhere. The manager told us our order was too small for table service and that we could only take it away. There was no sign or mention of a minimum order policy. We left without ordering. If there's a minimum spend required for sitting, it should be clearly displayed to avoid discomfort or confusion.

We enjoyed the food during our RS trip. Can also stay at Schwarzer Adler.

The Taj Mahal provides a refreshing change from all the German and Italian food in Rothenburg. But it's not just an alternative; it would be an outstanding Indian restaurant wherever located. There are many traditional dishes, prepared to perfection, but there are also some successful subtle twists on old favorites. The saag was fresh; the lamb tender. The korma sauce for the chicken was sumptuous, and made a nice addition to the basmati rice. The mangoes for the lassis are straight from India, giving them more power. There also are several bread choices not commonly seen. For instance, we tried the delicious chicken peshwari. Also delightfully unusual was the mulligatawny soup, which had a slightly spicy kick. The service was helpful, timely, and most friendly. I will note for you that it's cash only, so come prepared. But it was an outstanding experience that I would gladly repeat.

Good service and great place to eat. They adjust to your spice level if you request. They also have a hotel so you can request for a room if you change your plans from one day to two days. I enjoyed the food.

Food was below average. Extremely expensive for the portion they serve. They charge €7.60 for 0.4 L of tap water. When we tried expeessing our concern and give feedback the owner lf the restaurant came out and made us pay and leave quickly. He did not even have patience to listen to customer review and concerns. I wonder how this place has 5 star review. Can’t believe it. This place definitely does not deserve 5 star. There are lot pf other better restaurants with better food quality and customer service/ hospitality. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The food was absolutely outstanding and it was cooked to perfection—flavorful & fresh.. The Indian balance of flavors was spot on, and you could tell that high-quality ingredients were used. The staff was attentive and friendly Whether you’re looking for a cozy dinner spot, a special celebration, or just a fantastic meal, this place is a must-visit. I will definitely be returning soon!

Great food, good garlic naan, chicken with cashew cream and spicy chicken super good, great service and very kind staff. I don't give 5 stars because two bottles of 0.7 water cost us 15€ which is quite expensive.

Indians have a hard time with me because I'm spoiled in this regard, but clearly, this Indian is one of the better ones. All dishes were tasty and the service was appealing.

Food was tasty but the place is extremely expensive! I wouldn’t complain if the portion size was reasonable. The portions are extremely small. Even after spending 25 euros per person you won’t feel satiated. Roti is close to 5 euros and it’s extremely small sized. You need to eat two and some rice to feel satiated. Petite sized jamoon for 7 euros. Service and cleanliness were good.

The food is exceptionally good. We have been to many Indian restaurants but the taste here is absolutely top! The staff was also very accommodating without being intrusive. All in all just TOP! We'll be back.

The location is good, in the medieval town of Rothenburg o.d.T. The food for us was a mixed bag - the Pakoras and samosas were very obviously bought frozen but tasty. The Masala chai was a disappointment, too milky and over-sugared. The Chicken Tikka Masala was 6 out of 10 - highly coloured, with neatly-chunked chicken pieces which are usually a sign of a very average establishment. The Naans and rice were good. The chutneys were served in miniscule amounts, the size of tea spoon bowls. Service took a while, though they were friendly enough. We won't be back in a hurry.

We dined here on a Friday evening. The restaurant space is small and quaint. The service was excellent, we felt very comfortable. The food was incredibly delicious! We will definitely come here more often. There is a large selection of dishes so there is something for everyone. Due to the small space, we would recommend making a reservation in advance.

Very good Indian restaurant at very reasonable prices. We had thalis for two and it was interesting to be able to try different dishes. The meal was hearty, and the drinks (mango lassi and tea) were very good. If you're passing through Rothenburg and need a change from the local cuisine, I can only recommend this restaurant.
