Südtiroler Stuben in Essen

I would like to warn all lovers of Alpine cuisine about this Kaiserschmarrn. Unfortunately it's more like semolina cake. Cranberries are also far too sweet and of inferior quality.

It's nice that there is a playground here, but... small children shouldn't go there alone because the playground is right next to the parking lot and unfortunately the drivers don't pay attention to the kids. In addition, the edge of the playground is far too high for smaller children. My grandson fell over it and hurt himself badly. So there really doesn't have to be an edge at the entrance to a playground. The kids see a playground and run straight to it and don't even pay attention to an edge like that.

Aperol Spritz has far too little carbonation and is therefore overpriced at €8.20. Kaiserschmarrn strangely gritty dough.

We were there on one of the first sunny days in March 2025. Even though it was very busy outside, the service was prompt and friendly. The location is located directly on the lake and offers a great view. We had a knuckle and a Wiener schnitzel. The schnitzel was very good. The fried potatoes were not very tasty and very fatty. Unfortunately the knuckle was very dry. Because of the beautiful location we will still go there again

Authentic South Tyrolean cuisine in a dream location on Lake Baldeney The South Tyrolean Stuben on the banks of Lake Baldeney are a popular nice-weather excursion destination in Essen. The large catering establishment with a beautiful lakeside terrace also has hotel rooms. We recently stopped there on Sunday lunchtime because we were interested in the South Tyrolean specialties. The visit clearly exceeded our expectations in all respects. For a restaurant with more than 700 seats, the service was very friendly and attentive - no trace of mass processing. Our waiter even asked the kitchen whether it was possible to get the boiled beef with flexible meat - because it is simply too dry without any fat. This was no problem at all and my wife received a juicy piece of beef with the desired texture. My Schlutzkrapfen with spinach filling tasted like it was in a South Tyrolean mountain hut - it was authentically prepared regional cuisine of very good quality. The open wine from a Bozen winery and a cool, freshly tapped Forster beer made the culinary detour to Alto Adige perfect. In addition to the multi-level riverside terrace and the idyllic places on the riverside walk, the South Tyrolean Stuben have very tastefully and high-quality furnished guest rooms. I was thrilled by the Italian Catellani & Smith Stchu Moon pendant lights - cult products for design lovers. Conclusion: If you are looking for original South Tyrolean cuisine in Essen, you are in the right place here. The friendly service and the well-kept ambience with a view of the lake make the visit exceptional.

On a beautiful summer evening we got seats at the front of the jetty directly on Lake Baldeney. There we ate ice cream and drank a delicious cappuccino. We were very happy and it was beautiful there.

We only ate in the restaurant here. The staff was very friendly but a bit overactive. The humor didn't appeal to me. The food and drink was very tasty but extremely overpriced and I was offered more for that. The toilets are very cold in winter and you then have to warm up again in the restaurant. That's why I see this as something that needs to be improved. The food was still good and I thought the atmosphere was very nice. However, due to the prices depending on the portion size, I wouldn't come here again. It's actually a shame.

As a small starter there was homemade goose fat with fresh bread. Delicious. 😋 Afterwards there was goose leg and goose breast served on a platter with dumplings, red cabbage, chestnuts and apple fritters. The extremely nice waitress arranged everything on two plates. The food was very tasty and a good portion. The view of the lake is unique. 😍 We'd love to come back. 😊

I didn't have an overnight stay. The South Tyrolean Stuben are located directly on Lake Baldeney. Very nice restaurant with a great atmosphere. Large outdoor terrace and in summer there are 4-6 tables on a jetty, directly in the lake. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The dishes are very tasty and the eye is here too. Free parking available and a fenced playground. Hiking opportunities from the restaurant. Shipping pier can be reached in 600m.

Hervorragende Küche am Baldeney See in Essen. Im Sommer kann man auf der großen Terrasse den Blick auf den See genießen. Aktuell nimmt man im gemütlichen Innenraum Platz. Wir hatten eine fruchtige Tomaten Suppe mit Pfirsichsaft. Ein knuspriges Wiener Kalbsschnitzel, gebratene Blutwurst auf Kartoffelpüree, Schweinebraten mit Sauerkraut und Knödeln und zartes Schweinefilet mit Püree. Alle Gerichte waren toll abgeschmeckt und wurden optisch ansprechend serviert. Die Nachtische waren ebenfalls toll. Netter Service.

Excellent cuisine at Lake Baldeney in Essen. In summer you can enjoy the view of the lake on the large terrace. Currently you take a seat in the cozy interior. We had a fruity tomato soup with peach juice. A crispy Viennese veal schnitzel, fried blood sausage on mashed potatoes, roast pork with sauerkraut and dumplings and tender pork fillet with puree. All dishes tasted great and were served in a visually appealing way. The desserts were also great. Nice service.

Ein schönes Restaurant am See , Essen seit Jahren gleich gut nur immer teurer. Trotzdem immer wieder mal dort. Nur jetzt war es unmöglich auf den Terrassen zu sitzen und zu trinken geschweige zu essen. Die Wespen, welche jedes Jahr nerven, waren so schlimm das man Angst bekommen musste. Leider wird nichts dagegen getan so was wir nur noch zur Wespenfreien Zeit kommen können.

Large room, great view, tastefully decorated. The restaurant was also very flexible and, in a hurry, assigned us a table that had actually been reserved and asked the kitchen to prepare it quickly. And the food was very, very tasty! Absolutely recommended for value for money! In the evenings, when the rooms are open, you are very secluded, but RIGHT on the lake.

The Südtiroler Stuben has a great location. It has a large terrace on several levels. With a direct view of Lake Baldeney. The food was delicious and the wine was well chilled and very tasty. The service was quick and friendly. Here the business was geared towards masses. But it still had a coziness and a bit of a holiday feeling.

Sitting here at the moment, I know it's a lot to do and there are few staff, but I find waiting 2 hours for the main course unacceptable. Addition after the meal, the food came to everyone at the table at the same time and was very tasty. After dinner, the boss came to our table to apologize for the inconvenience and explain the situation. This shows that you care about your guests and value their opinions. Therefore I would now give it 4 out of 5. If there was less stress there would certainly be more stars. Afterwards there was another one on the house and the day was saved.👍😉

The beautiful, well-known and above all i.d. The restaurant with a large outdoor terrace is very busy in the summer months and is located directly on the promenade of Lake Aasee. With professional, friendly service and tasty Tyrolean and regional dishes, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake in a relaxed atmosphere. Parking is available, but unfortunately there is no elevator if you want to go to the toilet, for example.

Very nice restaurant with a wonderful terrace with a direct view of Lake Baldeney! This is highlighted by the excellent service and delicious food. We have eaten here several times and invited our guests as part of our wedding. It was wonderful every time and everyone involved was very happy. Absolute recommendation!

Access only one lane, hardly any alternatives. Terraces and restaurant nicely done. Food was okay, staff a bit overambitious. Tables were lined with plates of sandwiches and cakes. Hardly any way to put down your drink glass. Staff was very friendly.

Nice beer garden right on the water

Die Südtiroler Stuben am Ufer des Baldeney-Sees sind ein beliebtes Schönwetter-Ausflugsziel in Essen. Der Großgastronomie-Betrieb mit einer schönen Seeterrasse verfügt ebenfalls über Hotelzimmer. Wir sind kürzlich Sonntagmittag dort eingekehrt weil, uns die Südtiroler Spezialitäten interressierten. Der Besuch hat unsere Erwartungen in allen Belangen deutlich übertroffen. Für ein Restaurant mit mehr als 700 Plätzen war der Service sehr freundlich und aufmerksam - keine Spur von Massenabfertigung. Unser Kellner erkundigte sich sogar in der Küche ob es möglich sei, den Tafelspitz mit flexigem Fleisch zu bekommen - weil er ohne Fettanteil einfach zu trocken ist. Das war überhaupt kein Problem und meine Frau erhielt ein saftiges Stück Rindfleisch mit der gewünschten Textur. Meine Schlutzkrapfen mit Spinatfüllung schmeckten wie in einer Südtiroler Berghütte - das war authentisch zubereitete Regionalküche in sehr guter Qualität. Der offene Wein aus einer Bozner Kellerei und ein kühles frisch gezapftes Forster Bier machte den kulinarischen Abstecher nach Alto Adige perfekt. Neben der mehrstufigen Uferterrasse und den Idyllischen Plätzen am Ufersteeg verfügen die Südtiroler Stuben über sehr geschmackvoll und wertig eingerichtete Gasträume. Ich war begeistert von den italienischen Catellani & Smith Stchu Moon Pendelleuchten - Kultprodukte für Design-Liebhaber. Fazit: Wer in Essen auf der Suche nach original Südtiroler Küche ist, der ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Der freundliche Service und das gepflegte Ambiente mit Blick auf den See machen den Besuch außergewöhnlich.

The food is too expensive, it doesn't taste particularly good and the quality is at best ok, the dumplings in particular are not particularly pleasant in terms of flavor intensity, and they don't get any better with the large amount of butter or cheese. The salad is pretty good but too expensive. The drinks are reasonably priced considering where you are.

I've been here for breakfast and lunch. Every time I received friendly service. 🚨 However, there is no wheelchair-accessible entrance here. You should be able to climb stairs to get to the terrace. Or good companions who can take you up the stairs. 🚨 ☝🏻The staff there is not very empathetic. You are already left alone. 😓 Personally, I think it's a shame that nothing will change. ❗ I'm disabled myself and it's no picnic for me to get out on the terrace. ❗ I like the atmosphere by the water, the surroundings etc, which is why I come here.

The beer is bad and tastes very bad.

Even for a Saturday, waiting 1.5 hours for food is absolutely unacceptable. The drinks came quickly but the kitchen was extremely slow. Unfortunately, that really spoiled the whole experience

Disappointing ice cream experience I recently visited this restaurant and was served an ice cream that was already melted when it came to the table. Unfortunately it looked unappetizing and didn't taste fresh either. For the price I would have expected better quality and presentation. I hope they improve their service and the freshness of the desserts for future guests.

Location very nice, but be careful! Completely unsuitable for people with walking difficulties or older people with a walker! Long stairs to the entrance and toilets in the basement can unfortunately only be reached via a narrow, steep staircase.

Wonderful location, very lovingly managed. The staff is quick and extremely friendly. I haven't used the hotel yet, but I celebrated my wedding there and have enjoyed going there since and before. The cake there is worth a trip, but the food is always good too. The meat is always perfectly prepared. The menu offers enough variety, from good home cooking to burgers. Every dish is prepared to perfection and is served by friendly staff or the family themselves. The restaurant is idyllically located directly on Lake Baldeney and offers a great view of the lake from the terraces.

We ate very tasty food. The beetroot carpaccio was a special. Not a large portion, but with the caramelized walnuts (plenty of them) and the light vinegrette, it's a treat for the palate. The Tyrolean salad consisted of a lot of leaf lettuce and was a bit much for 1 portion. The service attentive and friendly.

I met three colleagues for coffee today. A very nice location right on the lake. The service was excellent. A waiter of Hungarian origin served us very attentively, he was very courteous and funny. We'd love to come back!

Beautiful location right on the water. I was cycling and was hungry. Wiener Schnitzel (veal saddle) ordered delicious. Side dishes are rather average but I can understand the crowds that come here. Service, thank God, not artificial / intrusive 5 stars. Prices okay. 4 stars because the side dishes and dressing (salad was ok) were more canteen style. But I still recommend the store. Come again

Only affects the restaurant. Today (08/23/24) we had dinner there with my friend and his family. I was there myself on the occasion of my birthday a few months ago. I have to say up front that the waiters are all great and the food is good (that's why not just one star despite my displeasure). But the person in charge of reservations had a very bad tone today. Due to Corona, we were three fewer people (out of a total of 11) and therefore couldn't cancel beforehand. When I had to call to change the reservation, I was made to feel like I had wasted my time. That's why we didn't think that calling shortly beforehand on the same day would make that much of a difference. Something similar to "I assume a recent infection was said in a very condescending and inappropriate tone? Otherwise you could have let us know in advance. We have specially prepared the table". And just left us standing there. I have to say: I can understand why this is being pointed out. But the tone wasn't okay, especially since Corona is also to be taken seriously and you might be a little worried about these people. But there was zero compassion. And the supposedly prepared table didn't look very inviting (in contrast to my visit a few months ago). It wasn't set, a tray was just being placed on it and what he meant by "preparation" was pushing several tables together plus the sign "reserved". In addition, the following situation came up again for me: during my visit a few months ago, a wedding party was celebrating there with extremely loud music, which I found very disturbing. I could have been warned. I'm used to this from other restaurants. However, the nice waitress made it all right again. This was almost the case with the waitress today, who listened to our criticism and took it seriously. However, I told her that I was considering not coming back because I was really really upset about the way she was treated all evening. Unfortunately, her very last wink and “see you next time” made me a little angry. I work as a service provider myself (albeit in a different industry) and I'm the first to say you don't have to put up with everything from the customer. There are certainly enough guests who never say anything and don't care. But we acted to the best of our knowledge and remained nice and friendly. The offer to talk came later from the waitress. We didn't get a chance to explain in the acute situation (with the man who welcomed us). We were simply labeled, which I think is very unprofessional. If that had been my family, I would have skipped eating there and left immediately. It's a shame. The location is really nice, the food is good and the waiters do a good job. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether they think this approach is okay. Definitely not me. I originally planned to celebrate more birthdays there, but I won't anymore.

Kann man besser sitzen und den herrlichen Blick auf den wunderschönen Baldeneysee bis hinein ins Bergische Lang genießen und noch dazu bei einem wirklich leckeren Essen einen tollen Spätnachmittag bis Abend verbringen? Klare Antwort: Nein! Nicht in dieser unserer geliebten Gegend des Ruhrgebietes. Es war wie ein Urlaubstag irgendwo in Süddeutschland. Die Vollendung war eine tolle gutgelaunte und fachlich überaus kompetente Kellnerin in einem tollen Team von Mitarbeitenden. Rundum ein unvergesslicher Tag. Vielen Dank.

Booked for an overnight stay and asked for a cool room as 35 degrees were expected during the day. The only cool thing was the reception: "ID card please" instead of hello or good day. It was a good 30 degrees in the room with the sun protection up and when I asked about a fan I was told: should I also put a coffee machine in your room? Service so far unsatisfactory. The service stars are only for the nice lady who prepared a nice breakfast.

Leider hat sich die Qualität der Küche sehr negativ entwickelt. Vor ein paar Jahren noch eine der besseren Adressen am See, gibt es jetzt Systemfrass, Massenabfertigung, mangelnde Qualität bei den Speisen und der Laden ist völlig überlaufen. Die Lage am See ist nach wie vor super. Parkplätze sind vorhanden, wenn auch je nach Andrang nicht genug. Der Aussenbereich ist gross und entsprechend überlaufen, man wartet überdurchschnittlich lange auf Speisen und Getränke. Die Karten entspricht einem typischen Biergarten / Ausflugslokal, die Preise sind durchaus gehoben. Die Qualität und Frische der Speisen sind nicht mehr empfehlenswert. Ohne Geschmack, nicht richtig durch / heiss, eindeutiger Systemfrass und ohne "Liebe". Mengen naja. Tipp : NIEMALS hier einen Salat essen. Katastrophe. Dann lieber abgekochtes / gegrilltes bzw fritiertes Zeug in sich reinstopfen.

I can't judge what the food is like, after my wife and my 16 year old son asked for a table (both don't look typically German) and were ignored, we moved on. My wife said try it, Germans seem to serve them better. But honestly, if the reception is bad, the service won't be any better.

Very nice Apenstil gastronomy. Since we only drank a cappuccino on the boom, which was good and inexpensive, I can't say anything about the food yet. However, what we saw looked very well prepared and delicious. Our service was courteous, friendly and attentive

Beautiful restaurant with an amazing lake view! They serve great food with big portions. My absolute highlight was the Apfelstrudel with (Bourbon!!) Vanilla Ice Cream - simply delicious. Worth mentioning was the excellent service and friendliness of the waitress. She was absolutely on top of things all the time! A visit is highly recommended!
