Sudhaus Villingen am Münster in Villingen-Schwenningen

The food at Sudhaus is usually good. But the service was a disaster during my last visit a few days ago. I wanted to grab a bite to eat between two business meetings, so I was alone. When I sat down at the only free table in the restaurant, the waiter asked me rather rudely if I was alone. I immediately sensed that I wasn't welcome, as they would have preferred to give the table to a group rather than a single guest. The waiter then consistently ignored me, walking past my table at least five times and saying each time that he would be right there. As I said, I was there between business meetings and didn't have much time. Waiting at least 15 minutes to place an order is far too long for people who just want to grab a bite to eat during their short break. But the best part is yet to come: When the waiter finally took my order, quite reluctantly, he told me that they only had the small menu that was on the tables. I pointed out that there were various dishes listed on large boards outside the restaurant and asked why they weren't available if there were large signs outside. He then became even more unfriendly and said that it simply wasn't available today. I got up and went to another restaurant where I received friendly service. It's a shame; a little friendliness and courtesy towards guests is essential. Therefore, I unfortunately cannot comment on the food.

After a day of snow it was a wonderful experience being in this restaurant. Food is excellent and most of all service is brilliant. Hope to return again 🙏. Quite and very nice atmosphere. We just walked in with no reservations.

The food is okay, but not for a Sunday afternoon; more like something for 11 pm after a beer tour. The service is catastrophically unfriendly and unprofessional. You have to specify how you want to pay beforehand. If you try to pay by card and haven't mentioned it in advance, you get a rude comment and the waiter becomes snappy.

The location near the cathedral is fantastic. Unfortunately, the restaurant itself and the quality of the food are mediocre.

Saturday lunchtime, busy, friendly service, a bit too much cooking smell, but not too loud and very fair prices – and I enjoyed a fantastic sour liver with fried potatoes. I'd been looking forward to it for ages! Highly recommended.

A cozy restaurant. Despite it being quite busy, we were still able to get a table. The service was very friendly, never pushy or stressed, but also attentive. Our drinks and food arrived at our table within a reasonable timeframe and were delicious. I highly recommend it.

We were staying overnight in Villingen for an ice hockey game in Schwenningen. We stumbled upon this fantastic restaurant by chance and were absolutely thrilled. The food was incredibly delicious, the prices were reasonable, and the beer from Hirsch Bräu was excellent, especially the wheat beer. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and communicative, and the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated. After our meal, we sat at the bar until closing time...

Every year when we're in Villingen, we always enjoy visiting the Sudhaus. Friendly service and a charming, rustic atmosphere. We haven't eaten there yet, but we'll definitely do that next time we visit.

Unfortunately, the staff was completely unfriendly, even towards the children. Regarding the food: I wouldn't recommend it to anyone; everything was of poor quality. The meat was so tough that we had to leave it on the table. The potato salad tasted like it came straight from a bucket, and it was ready-made salad dressing. The rest was just reheated and not worth a cent. This isn't a restaurant; you can even get better food at a takeaway. On top of that, the waiters forgot half of our food, for example, one salad. We had forks, and after asking five times, we got a knife. After asking again and waiting for five minutes, everyone got a knife. Fries were also forgotten, but of course they weren't on the bill. The taste was very poor. I think the selection is good for everyone who wants to indulge.

Service, we were satisfied... The atmosphere was like a brewhouse should be, cozy for sitting together and drinking... Food... The menu (paper) was very limited compared to the notices outside the restaurant... The men's restroom was a bit of a trip back in time 😅... but could have been a bit cleaner, in my opinion...

Delicious food at reasonable prices, plus friendly service

This is our first time here, and it's really, really delicious. We'll have to take some of the large dishes home with us. The schnitzel is really super tender, well pounded, and beautifully breaded. We're with three adults and three kids, and everyone was happy and full. We'd love to come back. One year later: we love eating there 😊 Yes, it's true, it's a little dusty here and there, but honestly, the tables themselves are clean. The staff are super friendly, no matter who you are. We've only had positive experiences, whether it's just two, four, or more. The price-performance ratio is honestly more than cheap. Elsewhere, you pay more, only get half the food on your plate, and you either go home hungry or are hungry again shortly afterward. That doesn't happen here. We even regularly drive from OG to Villingen just to eat there 🤭 You often have a choice of seats, and you don't wait long for the food. Schnitzel isn't reheated in the microwave, which is almost an insult to the kitchen!! The person who prepares this schnitzel knows how to handle meat. If you can make schnitzel this crispy and delicious in the microwave, then I need it at home. Joking aside, we're very particular and often don't eat schnitzel because it's either still full of tendons or fat. These are amazing.

Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. The surroundings were dirty and unkempt, with sticky tables and an uncleaned floor. Overall, there was a sense of poor hygiene, which definitely doesn't make for a good dining experience. Furthermore, the staff were rude and unhelpful: our questions about the menu were answered with a curt and annoyed tone. The atmosphere was anything but inviting. It's a shame, because the location is actually good, but under these conditions, I absolutely cannot recommend this restaurant.

Very friendly service, we ate very well and plentifully

The schnitzel was okay, but the spaetzle and gravy were truly terrible, and the waiter, who never paid any attention to us, got rude because he didn't give us enough tips. Never again. The outside area is nice, but that's still no reason for me to eat there again.

I had booked a table outside well in advance. When we arrived, the table was gone. The waitress made excuses. We waited a bit, and after 5 minutes, the waitress showed us a table and we sat down. After another 5 minutes, another waiter arrived and rudely asked us to get up, claiming the table was already reserved. DISGRACEFUL service.

Food: Okay, average in taste. Service: Unfortunately disappointing. Requests to change the side dishes (e.g., fries for something else) were strictly rejected. Bill: We had to check the receipt ourselves and later discovered that the billing was incorrect. Overall impression: Overall, we felt inadequately treated by the service and ripped off by the incorrect billing.

We visited the Sudhaus for the first time today and were very pleasantly surprised. The service was very friendly and helpful, and the drinks and food were served very quickly. We really enjoyed the food; you could tell everything was freshly prepared. We will definitely eat at the Sudhaus next time we're in Villingen. Everything was perfect for us. A beautifully located beer garden next to Villingen Minster. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The menu is very regional, so there's something for everyone here. We had schnitzel with salad and fries twice, and once with spaetzle. It was a very nice visit. The price/performance ratio is more than reasonable. It's even more affordable. We'll definitely be back. 🍀🍀

Incredibly good value for money! Generous portions. If I could, I'd give it 6 out of 5 stars. The salads are top-notch and fresh, the grass-fed beef tender and juicy. My recommendation: Seebuckhütte schnitzel with a dark white beer. Top, top, top, keep up the good work!

A traditional, well-run family business for over 50 years. The service (now personally run by the owner's son) is very friendly, and the food is truly delicious. Everything is homemade and the prices are simply amazing. The restaurant is centrally located in the city center (near the cathedral) and is definitely worth a visit! The interior is reminiscent of an old brewery. Old wooden ceilings, old floorboards remind me of the old student bars in Heidelberg.

This was my first time dining in a multi-person keg. The value for money is excellent, the food is absolutely delicious, and the service is friendly. Highly recommended!

I'd like to give it 0 stars, but unfortunately that's not possible. The waiter was rude. He brought the wrong drink, and I politely pointed it out. He then started arguing, and when an older gentleman (also a guest) intervened and agreed with me, the waiter yelled at the guest. He also forgot to bring mustard and sauce. We sat outside, and unfortunately, it constantly smelled of feces or baby diapers, and occasionally a swarm of flies flew by. I'm extremely disappointed with the waiter, and overall, the food wasn't worth the price. I won't be coming again.

We happened to be there today. The food was served very quickly and tasted delicious. Even with a dog, it was no problem. The service was also excellent!

Unfortunately, we were ignored after we took our seats and tried to place our order. Neither the waiter nor the owner even looked at us, especially the owner who had cleared something away from our table but unfortunately neglected to ask for our order. After about 15 minutes, we left the beer garden frustrated. This shouldn't happen to professionals. Very unprofessional. 👎👎

A beautifully located beer garden right next to the church – very atmospheric, even if the bells can be quite loud (the restaurant can't do anything about that, of course). A particularly nice feature: you can sit inside in huge wooden barrels, which is a real experience. The price is good, and the food tastes good. Only the drinks sometimes take a while to arrive, and the men's restroom could use some renovation. Overall, though, a worthwhile stop for a relaxing break!

Whenever we're in VS, we've always enjoyed good, home-style food in a rustic atmosphere. Today we fell victim to the small lunch menu (2-5 p.m.). The hunter's schnitzel we chose consisted of two and a half wafer-thin slices of meat. It has nothing to do with a schnitzel. Disappointing.

Very pleasant old town restaurant with traditional German dishes. Schnitzel with fries or spaetzle, both are fresh and delicious! Prices also unbeatable. I would love to come with my family as there is plenty of space on the terrace with a view of the old cathedral, while inside there are beautiful barrels as a separate area if you want to dine in peace and quiet without being looked at by others. Long-standing, well-kept restaurant with a rustic atmosphere. This restaurant simply belongs to Villingen. Very good menu lots of choice. Freshly and deliciously prepared. There's still sausage salad with fried potatoes, as Villinger knows. And warm dishes are also highly recommended. Nice owners. Keep it up for many more years.

We happened to pass by there and thought we'd go in there. Pleasantly surprised by the ambience and the food. The portions are huge, the meat is tender as butter, the service is extremely charming. We will go there again at the next opportunity, although I didn't find out whether the toilets are wheelchair accessible.

Very nice old restaurant, i ate so good and délicieux rumsteak with cook potatoes, so big portion., and people are kind and service was fast, you dont wait so long, good placement where they are located . I promised i will come again with mein LIEBLING and have again lunch or dinner there 👍

I ate sour Leberle with fried potatoes again... Simply brutally delicious 🤤 ✌️ It's a down-to-earth, delicious kitchen with lovingly prepared plates at fair prices. The ambience is rustic, but totally fits the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service is super friendly and knows how to deal with the guests. Unfortunately, the toilets don't fit in at all with the rest... Something definitely needs to be done. We always enjoy coming back ☺️

If you want a good home-style meal... you want a really nice, friendly and sweet service and all of it in a huge wooden barrel... then you've come to the right place! The brewhouse, at first glance not necessarily inviting and chic 😉, impresses with authentic service staff, really good and simple food and a very special flair! And the schnitzel with a side dish and salad for under 15 with a very generous portion is even more impressive! We'd love to come back! Thanks for the great evening

While I had given 4 stars, I am forced to change my rating, based on my last visit with my friends! Yesterday was Sunday. Around 16.30, we went once again with my company for dinner. We were seven people. We sat in the room facing the Bier Garten, from which a couple had just left. The room was empty, so we were alone there. As the shops happened to be open until 18.00, and the Bier Garten was full, we were willing to wait until we were served. After 10 minutes of waiting, my son told the owner lady that we are sitting in this hall and ready to order. But apart from a smile, he didn't get an answer... Because we could see the Bier Garten from the glass, we could see customers leaving, and customers coming in were served before us! After another quarter, my husband came out and told a blonde young lady serving that we wanted to order. She abruptly said to "wait our turn!" We waited another ten to fifteen minutes, seeing other customers being served before us, when a friend of ours got up to ask if we would finally be able to order. The young blonde lady started yelling in exasperation that "we had to wait our turn"!!! My friend told her she's rude, without getting a response of course, and we left at that moment! We were barely able to and were served in a neighboring restaurant, with extremely friendly staff despite all the pressure of the day! I regret that until now we were customers together with our friends there. While they have good food, their reserved behavior shows unprofessionalism... If they can't serve a few more people, they should have closed that hall.! However, we are not going to go again...

We had reserved, but our table wasn't free and we had to add the missing chairs ourselves. Service was overwhelmed and left a lot to be desired. In addition, the toilets are in a catastrophic condition. The food was okay but all in all the restaurant is not recommended. Unfortunately...

The food is good and enough choice. There is also a new space for seating, many different options for choosing a seat. The counter is legendary. My rump steak was good. Only the toilets should be modernized.

The food is incredibly bad. Steak fried to death, fried potatoes barely fried properly. The cook has to be an amateur because the simplest mistakes are made. Not recommended at all.

We actually only came here by chance while passing through on vacation, but the rustic ambience immediately appealed to us. So we went in and asked if we could accommodate two more hungry hikers. Sure, no problem. Although the restaurant was already quite busy, around 6 p.m. on Saturday. Lucky, I would say. The service is extremely friendly, really warm and you get service very quickly, even though it was quite full. That speaks for the good cuisine and they are obviously experienced in dealing with a lot of visitors. Top! There was also live music, 80s hits from Hammond. Totally cool. The food was really great, exactly our taste and what we had imagined. Overall, a nice evening. Delicious beer with it. Perfect. Many thanks again to the hosts. Keep it up, we'll be happy to come back if the opportunity arises. You are great!
