The two sandwiches we ordered were only half-filled. We ordered several extras, each at an additional cost (2x guacamole, mayonnaise, 2x cheddar cheese, roasted onions), but we received NONE of the ordered extras in our sandwiches. Instead, we received bell peppers (which we hadn't ordered). Furthermore, we chose to eat in, and our orders were rushed, as if to say "let's get this over with," even though it was 20 minutes before closing time.

They don't offer customer restrooms, and even pregnant women are refused access! The employee doesn't even look at you, she's unfriendly! The staff in general are very rude and think they're better than everyone else! A few years ago, the atmosphere and staff were much friendlier and always smiled! What a shame! We've lost a customer! Of course, we didn't buy anything else!

I waited just over 40 minutes for my order, which I placed there, because the three young men working there had to prepare 13 to 14 orders simultaneously. Unfortunately, they didn't warn new customers that they would be spending a significant portion of their evening there after placing their orders. If I hadn't already paid, I would have simply left and gotten food somewhere else AND made the entire journey home before receiving my subs. I understand that it's likely to be busy on a Sunday evening, but a wait of more than 40 minutes is unacceptable for a fast-food restaurant.

On October 30th, around 6:00 PM, I ordered two subs to eat in at this branch. According to the receipt, the bread was ordered toasted. However, after waiting about 18 minutes, the bread was noticeably cold when it was served. I pointed this out to the employee and explained that the bread was cold despite my order being toasted. I was told that this was due to the salad. Reheating or a replacement was not offered. The order, valued at €23.38, was therefore delivered in its original condition. According to official Subway standards and business policies, the company is obligated to prepare individually ordered products properly and according to customer specifications. Since toasting or warming was part of the order, this service was not fully provided from my perspective. I have always been satisfied with other branches where the preparation and service met my expectations. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. I hope that the branch will take this advice to heart and pay closer attention to compliance with quality standards in the future.

The service was simply unfriendly and completely disinterested. You felt like you were more of a nuisance than a welcome customer. I stood at the checkout and received barely any attention. The two employees continued to have private conversations. A simple question was met with annoyance. Friendliness or customer service didn't seem to play a role here. The older employee with short blonde hair was particularly rude.

Oh, stars from me! The staff was very rude. One employee preferred to sit outside rather than help her colleague in the "restaurant," even though she seemed very overwhelmed. The food wasn't fresh. My daughter's Italian baguette was so hard she couldn't eat it. My husband's and my baguettes were dripping with sauce, and the other toppings were very skimpy. The weird lattice fries from the air fryer were soggy and undercooked. We used to love going there, but with this quality, we won't go back!

Compared to other Subway branches, this facility appears to be designed to minimize customer interaction. Four ordering kiosks obscure the otherwise attractive presentation of ingredients such as meat, cheese, and salads. Furthermore, the usual ordering process involving the selection of bread and cheese is omitted. There were significant errors in my order. Instead of a chicken teriyaki with no sauces, I received one with two different sauces. My wife's sub, a furious chicken, was missing both the sauces and the meat, which we only discovered upon unwrapping. This could have been avoided by maintaining the traditional ordering process. The ambiance is more reminiscent of a vending machine ordering station than a traditional Subway restaurant.

0 stars! Clearly a provider for Uber Eats & Co. rather than for in-store customers. In-store customers are forced to wait, wait, wait. Plus, the service is terrible when the vending machine isn't working. It takes almost 40 minutes from entering the store until you get your food. A no-go. At best, it could be considered for app pre-orders and pickup.

The ordering terminals are unnecessarily complicated and sometimes don't accept the app coupons. What's much worse, however, is that we received stale bread from the day before. After asking, they said, "We always do it this way." I'm not going to buy a €12 sandwich that's supposed to be fresh. It tasted like cardboard.

Unfortunately, I don't like the system here at all. The terminals are impersonal; the people behind them don't even know the word hello. Questions aren't answered. It's a shame, the Subway in the Limbecker Center is so much better and the employees are a lot friendlier. If you reopen them, you'll get 5 stars. As a tradesman, it's unfortunately annoying when you want to use the restroom quickly before eating.

Subway is clean here, ordering via touchscreen is quick, and drinks are plentiful—so you can easily fill your bladder to the brim. Your hands will stay nice and covered while you eat. But beware, if you want to go to the bathroom afterward: there are no customer restrooms! For a place where you can eat in, this is simply unfriendly and impractical. Anyone who invites guests to stay should also consider their basic needs—not just revenue.

Ever since these order monitors (similar to those at McDonald's) were introduced, you've been waiting a good quarter of an hour to 20 minutes for your food. And when there are two employees, one of whom also has to restock the fridge, and the apprentice has to read each ingredient individually from the monitor and check what's where, you spend more time waiting than eating. Absolutely nothing against the employees here; they're all nice and do a job I personally wouldn't have the patience for, but it's a fact that these stupid screens complicate everything...

Things can always get worse. Once a regular, now a refugee. Since the introduction of self-service kiosks with their completely unhygienic touchscreens, you can't even see what's being prepared. Of course, there was far too little sauce and it was completely dry, and the lattice potatoes, which weren't at all designed for this type of cooking, were super soggy and incredibly small. Horrible. I'd rather eat somewhere else.

All I can say is: FOOD POISONING! I ate there on Monday and bought a chicken sub, unfortunately a fatal mistake. A few hours later, the drama began: severe stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea – the diagnosis: a gastrointestinal infection caused by spoiled food. The meat smelled and tasted spoiled, and the jalapeños were also suspect. Even as I was ordering, I had a bad feeling because the hygiene in the restaurant left a lot to be desired. The team worked hectically, unfriendly, and, what shocked me most, in a very dirty condition. I was truly shocked by this incident. One thing is for sure: never again! Caution is advised here.

A disaster since the renovation. Ordering at the terminals takes significantly longer, and then you wait another while for the food to be ready. The new app also makes the experience a complete disaster. Vouchers aren't redeemed even though the "conditions" have been met, and when you point this out to an employee, they don't try to help, just throw out "I can only do what's on my computer." Absolutely zero service orientation. I used to come here often, but this was definitely my last visit.

Unfortunately, I can only give this store 2 stars. At first, I was very pleased that they had self-service kiosks; I hadn't seen them at Subway. I was the only customer in the store; no one was waiting, so I hoped to get my sub quickly. After ordering and paying at the kiosk, I went to the cashier/counter and waited... and waited... and waited... After a full 12 minutes, I asked if the employee had already started my order, and he said no. Reason: online orders. While I stood there waiting, one online order after another was being prepared. The bags piled up behind the counter and were eventually picked up. While I was waiting. When I asked for a refund because I didn't have much time, my order was "brought forward as an exception." Otherwise, I probably would have stood there alone for another 20 minutes, waiting...

I'm truly shocked by what happened to me on June 15th at 7 p.m. at this Subway branch. I ordered at the terminal as usual—as is now "normal." All well and good. BUT: Since I wanted to pay in cash, my order simply wasn't processed because someone had to come and take my order. And what happened instead? All the other orders from people who came after me were prepared immediately—because they paid by card and were thus automatically integrated into the process. Me? I stood there for 15 minutes. Completely ignored. Not even a quick glance, no "We'll be with you in a minute." Nothing. I was treated as if I were invisible, even though I could clearly see that my order was visible on the screen —just blocked because I was dependent on an employee who took the order in cash. And they apparently had more important things to do. I'm NOT talking about the people who pay with cards - but about the fact that paying with cash seems to have several disadvantages. I ordered on time, behaved perfectly normally, and was then treated as if I had no right to food. The employees seemed listless, slow, and completely overwhelmed. I'm really disappointed - this was the last time I go to this branch. Almost worse than the main train station. That's not how you leave customers who already have to do without a restroom because no Subway has one. LOL

The Tuna Sub – A Monument to Submarine Art I consciously chose the largest version available – a 30cm long masterpiece that redefined the term “sandwich”. The first touch of the freshly baked bread revealed an olfactory fireworks display: a combination of warm, crispy crust and that unmistakable scent that can only be achieved through excellent dough handling. I chose the classic Italian white bread - golden brown on the outside and cloudy soft on the inside, a foundation straight out of a culinary architecture manual. I was really surprised that my food was still warm... my colleague today finished all the subs quickly, while his colleague almost fell asleep while talking. The shop became more and more crowded and the ready-made food was piling up as the good lady completed each step in slow motion. I didn't know you could open an oven so slowly. Motivation looks different. And the pure enthusiasm in her eyes when she came into contact with customers was also overwhelming... NOT. Seldom seen something so unmotivated.

Terrible service. I can understand that it's a really bad job, but if you really don't want to do the work you won't be forced to do it. I was told I could wait outside for my food because I wanted to eat there and after 15 minutes an assistant came to tell me the food was already ready. I didn't get any brief information or a tray, even though you pay 10-15 euros to fill your stomach. It's really underground to have to let the flotsam treat you like that. It's better to go to the Arab place around the corner, it costs less, tastes better and the people still have a smile on their faces. They know what it means to work in the catering industry. That was my first and last time in this juice shop.

Update March 9, 2025: It was great. Now there are only ordering terminals and you can no longer order in person. You have to scan a QR code with the app to log in, which is not possible. When we asked whether a "normal" order was possible, the response was completely demotivated and we were directed to the terminal. It's a shame, I really liked the subway

Update March 25: Recently, counter and checkout operations have given way to self-service ordering terminals. My voucher from the app didn't work for the first time since I started using their bonus program and the employees couldn't help. Another customer who had problems selecting cookies was not even offered the normal checkout, but was instead offered to finish the order and "call out" to the employees which cookies he wanted. The system doesn't fit the Subway concept, doesn't work reliably and is rather unintuitive to use (had to spend some time looking for the unmarked, hidden barcode scanner). This corresponds to my experience from other branches with such a system. I'm not coming back for a while. Original review: If it's empty and you're lucky with the employees, it's a good branch. Often enough, employees don't seem sufficiently trained, they have to find their way around the constantly shifting and animated maps and, especially with the subs, which have recently been replaced by fixed, confusing "recipes", they don't seem to know exactly what can be added and left out and at what cost (which were already very high before).

Unfortunately, we have to say that it's really strange to have a kiosk ordering system in place for a shop that aims to put together super individual food. In the end, I had to talk just as much to the employees, who of course had five other orders. But the system leaves you hardly any options. You can't even choose the type of cheese you want? If you just want 'some' of some topping, you've lost if you don't get in touch again, which is probably just as annoying for the employees as it is for me. It's a shame, especially because there were always cool conversations with the employees that now disappear behind screens.

It's actually a nice shop with nice seating and the food is always satisfactory, so I rarely have any complaints. However, I think that one employee (now assigned to Saturday evenings with glasses and a dark blonde braid) who often comes here is very unfriendly. I think it's extremely sad and I can certainly understand that it's a stressful job, but I just can't be that extremely listless and in a bad mood in a service sector. Then I really have to look for something else if guests and people annoy me. It's a shame and just ruins the evening in the store.

The Subway branch on Gladbecker Straße in Essen – what can you say? An experience that is second to none! Experiences from January 5, 2024, 3 p.m., so that the managing director can also interview his employees ;) Child-friendliness: Catastrophic! Children don't seem to be the target group here. They are viewed more like an annoying fly than like little guests. A cup of water? None – perhaps a petition should have been submitted. Customer friendliness: Absolutely inadequate. The “roll-smearer” (who should probably actually be called sandwich artist) seems to have a comprehensive set of rules in her head that she constantly repeats: “I’m not allowed to do that, that’s not possible.” Creativity or solution-oriented? Zero points. Shop: Visually quite pleasant, you have to admit. But the chic look doesn't hide the fact that there aren't even any toilets here. So it's better to get rid of all liquids before venturing in. Eat: The subs are only prepared half-heartedly, the serving spoons are only half full, but the taste is the same as anywhere else. It almost borders on cheating the customer because I pay for the whole thing and get less. VERY Pity!!! Conclusion: If you want to enjoy a “sub” with a good dose of frustration and a pinch of irony, you’ve come to the right place. Otherwise: save yourself the visit and your nerves. The branch at Essen HBF, on the other hand, is more charming.

I have rarely experienced such uninterested, unmotivated service. Questions about the menu offerings were not answered at all, my question about the sauces was answered with "too many". The employee also used this snippy manner towards other customers. He only showed interest in young female customers. The colleague also gossiped loudly and in a racist manner about a female customer from the previous day. My table wasn't cleaned. The food itself was fine. Overall, not a good experience - next time I visit the neighboring auto repair shop, I'd rather wait there again.

This morning: Hygiene and table cleanliness have improved. The tables were clean today - that wasn't always the case when I was here. The sub was delicious. What I noticed, however, was the very strange behavior among the employees. A young man (I don't know if I can/should mention names here. His name acoustically ended in i or y) was very nice and personable. As a customer, you could tell that he worked diligently and wanted to do his job well. The strange thing was that his older colleagues, a lady and a gentleman, were unfriendly towards him. The gentleman seemed to be in a higher position (I don't want to be too specific). The colleague constantly folded the young man in front of the manager. However, she also did this in front of the customers. The manager joined in and also presented the young employee in an unfavorable light in front of the assembled customers. You don't do that! There is NO ONE who can do EVERYTHING perfectly! By the way: My sub was tasty, but fell apart a bit and wasn't cut nicely/cleanly and wasn't prepared by the young man ;-)) - If someone does something that you don't agree with, you clarify it briefly (or for a long time, as far as I'm concerned) in the staff room and not in public. The good thing, on the other hand, is that as a customer you can take a look behind the scenes and I felt quite sorry for the young man and must have probably carried a depressing layer with him. Absolutely no one wants to work like that. The young man accidentally put the wrong ingredient on a customer's sub and immediately received nasty looks from his colleagues. In my opinion, the fact that things like this happen to him with the ingredient is absolutely human and understandable. This interaction - constant putting down - would have left me totally insecure and under a lot of pressure. This encourages (careless) errors. It feels to the customer as if this employee can't please anyone. He was the friendliest of everyone who was there today. The colleague became rude to the young man for many things. In a banal situation she said to him: “It wouldn't be bad to think along.” - Ditto, because their behavior towards each other creates a damn bad impression and doesn't work at all. You can also tell from the looks in the eyes of the other customers when the poor guy is being rounded up in front of everyone. This is unprofessional and suboptimal in terms of management. This means that no one, regardless of whether they are permanently employed, temporary, trainee or or, has to undergo treatment. I'm giving it 3 stars because I really can't stand being put down in front of managers or being put down in front of customers (with the manager).

I've been coming to this branch regularly, several times a month, for over a year. But what I had to experience today is the very last thing. The employee, young, shorter, with long dark blonde hair, wasn't exactly listening or accommodating from the start when it came to my politely presented order requests. She asked several times what I wanted. When I gave her the paper coupon to be redeemed when paying (see photo), she didn't even read it, but told me in a snippy tone that it wasn't applicable because, among other things, I... Went there on Sunday and the two men/boys were extremely overwhelmed. They answered the phone with dirty gloves. The line was long. We ordered online for pickup even though we were there at the specified time and we had to wait another 10 minutes. For ice-cold subs that probably weren't even warmed up. You can also see from the picture that the cheese wasn't melted. Logically, the meat substitute was also cold and hard. The employees are also completely incompetent and make fun of us as to why we wouldn't have ordered online together instead of separately because it would be easier for them. Which shouldn't be any of their business. The fact that the meat or bread wasn't even warmed up is unbelievable. This wasn't my first visit to this branch, otherwise the two women were always great, but yesterday's was a complete waste of money and food. If I could I would give 0 stars! I ordered something there and wanted to pay by card. The device then said payment accepted. The employee told me it wasn't true because no receipt came out. So I had to repeat the process again and a receipt came out. End of song: The amount to be paid was deducted from my account twice. A few days later I went there with the receipt and my bank statement and explained my problem. She was really nice, explained everything to us in detail and helped us redeem the vouchers we wanted. We were here with a large group (18 people) for dinner during the trade fair. The service was first-class; I've rarely experienced such a service-oriented approach. Excellent Thai cuisine, very tasty and not too spicy. An amazing wine list with additional treasures in the cellar. I can highly recommend it.

The staff is very friendly and customer-oriented. The doner kebab costs under €7. The portion is generous. Everything is fresh. Warning: The hot sauce is spicy!
