Six of us were at the Staircase this weekend and sat inside for the first time in a long time! It was so pretty and cozy, we'd almost forgotten! Otherwise, the food was fantastic, with six different dishes, all of which were absolutely delicious! The service was incredibly fast, fun, and simply on the ball! Thank you so much, you guys, we'll be back!

Very tasty, good value for money!

If you want to go up the stairs you have to be able to walk up a few stairs, otherwise the restaurant cannot be reached. In summer the staircase lives from the inner courtyard with a view of the Ruhr. Well-seated and protected by awnings, you can eat a little something and have a drink here. There is a relaxed atmosphere here. Very friendly service. Many guests come back more often.

Delicious, freshly prepared food, a great ambiance, unpretentious service, a picturesque location, and the generous portions of food served satisfy even the most ardent hunger. You leave the restaurant in a relaxed mood.

We had the schnitzel with chanterelles and fried potatoes. The mushrooms were inedible, as were the fried potatoes. The schnitzel tasted like it came from a deep fryer, and the salad was on the same plate. And all for €27.90. The whole thing was inedible. I'll never have it again.

No star is too many! The food was so bad that we still felt sick hours later. We're always willing to pay exorbitant prices for good food and ambiance, but what we got there was awful! The waitress wasn't even interested in speaking to us.

It wasn't busy, just three men behind the counter, one of whom lit a cigarette. We waited in vain for service and left without food or drink. We didn't even notice.

Great food, very tasty, well-seasoned, always fresh, great staff, good atmosphere, good selection, and a varied menu. Something for every taste. Children and dogs are even welcome. Absolutely perfect value for money.

After the latest change in the team (at least the chef seems to be new again), I have to correct my previous positive review: - The menu has been drastically reduced, essentially to just three hot dishes (currywurst, schnitzel, and burger). The "daily menu" only included cakes and desserts... - The prices had been drastically increased (€14.90 for a currywurst or €24.90 for a pork schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce. You wouldn't just order that at a beer garden... - The taste was unfortunately only average, and you couldn't even hear the schnitzel being pounded (convenience?!) - The service was unmotivated, and other employees behind the counter felt they weren't responsible. - No card payments (never happened here before). - The music "hangs" on a continuous loop. When asked about this, the waitress simply commented, "Everything breaks here." Original review: Cozy pub in Kettwig's old town with a great terrace in nice weather. The service was quick and friendly, and the portions were large and appetizing. Recommended: Salat Altstadt (Old Town Salad).

No card payments, unfortunately, that's how it all began at the end of our visit to the beer garden. The food, we've been there several times before, was, as always, mostly good. The only disappointment was the Wiener Schnitzel, certainly a large portion with plenty of fries and a very good salad. However, both schnitzels were very reminiscent of convenience food and had an unpleasantly strong smell of the grease used.

We were at the Stiege in Essen-Kettwig for lunch and were not only served good food, but also a pinch of humor. The wait staff has the shop well under control and ensures a relaxed atmosphere with relaxed sayings. Perfect for a little break in the middle of the day.

I'm already looking forward to the next visit. The service deserves 6 stars for me❣

The staircase could actually do more with itself, the quality of the food varies greatly. We often ate very well, but sometimes disappointingly. The service staff is not always hospitable either. Unfortunately there is no Commerzbank in Kettwig anymore and we have to drive far to get cash. I just don't understand why Stiege has refused to offer card payments for years, that's the deepest Middle Ages and very backwards. You're missing out on a lot of money. That's exactly why we don't go to their restaurant anymore!

Es gab saisonal sehr leckeren Spargel. Auch der Salat war sehr gut. Ich aß 3 Heringsfilets mit Bratkartoffeln und die Qualität war hevorragend! Die Aussicht vom Biergarten in Richtung Ruhrtal ist auch sehr schön.

Since my partner has to attend rehab in Kettwig, we looked around the old town and found this fantastic restaurant. The food was to die for. The service was super nice and accommodating. We'll be back after rehab too.

The café is very nicely located. Surrounded by half-timbered houses, on a hillside between the upper and lower old towns of Essen-Kettwig. From the inside, however, the café is neither historically old-fashioned nor modern. Rather, it feels like it's seen better days. The interior is from the 80s or 90s. The staff is very casually dressed (one waitress wore a lounge suit). I'm not necessarily a dress code conscious, but clean, sensible clothing would inspire more confidence. However, the staff were friendly and attentive, which is why it still gets 4 stars. There's a selection of cakes and hot dishes. The portions are good, and the food is okay. But the cake, in any case, isn't as special as the place would suggest. It's tasty, but it's not mind-blowing.

Das ganze Restaurant roch nach altem Fett und so waren auch die Speisen, frittierte Schnitzel, schlimmer als Pommesbude aber da ist man das ja dann gewöhnt. Die gerne sah aus wie clochards ungepflegt in dreckigen Hosen

It was my first time in Kettwig and the truth is that this particular restaurant immediately caught my attention. Very nice place, friendly staff and delicious food. They left us sitting with our dog.

Very nice, but unfortunately the church is annoying with its outdated tinkling. You can't have a conversation for 10 minutes without the bells ringing disharmoniously loudly. It was probably thought that volume could compensate for poor sound. A minaret would be more pleasant. That's annoying too, but only 5 times a day instead of constantly. Since I like to chat over beer, I will no longer visit this beautiful place.

I made reservations for 30 people and everything went perfectly. The drinks were taken and were correctly at the tables within a short time. The meal didn't take very long either, even though the restaurant was quite full at the time. Everyone was happy, i.e. the food was delicious. Portions are also enough to fill you up. The staff is friendly and has everything under control. The restaurant is relatively small, but the beer garden and winter garden can accommodate a lot of people. I find it very quaint and cozy. The stop of the White Fleet on the Ruhr is below and you go up stairs to the restaurant.

A little pearl in Kettwig that I have enjoyed visiting again and again for years. Most recently with friends on the weekend. Very tasty food that was served quite quickly by a super nice, lively young lady and tasted great. The prices are fair, even if the drinks are now at an exorbitantly high level everywhere. The only disadvantage, which is why I deducted a star: there is only cash payment!! Unfortunately, this is no longer up to date and it was lucky that I had any cash with me at all.

There were three of us here today. All dishes are freshly prepared, super friendly service. Burgers, schnitzel and soup (with lamb) were the orders. The fries as a side dish were delicious and crispy. Obviously made with fresh fat. We'll definitely be back!

Very nicely located with a view of the Ruhr. Very nice seating under umbrellas. Clean and well maintained, clean toilets. The food was great, there were eight of us here, everyone was very happy. The portions were large, the food arrived for everyone at the same time and was hot and tasty. The prices were really reasonable for such large portions. Gladly again, thank you very much! The service is very friendly, quick and approachable at any time. The food, matjes and fried potatoes with salad, generously portioned (with the offer to bring a second set of cutlery for my companion), very good quality and tasty. We found the price-performance ratio to be very good. Since we felt really comfortable here, we will be happy to come back.

I haven't had this much fun in the catering industry for a long time! The view and ambience are great. The service was super friendly, warm and attentive. And the food was fantastic. Classics and new interpretations. Good portions, very tasty. 😍 I ordered a KiBa for “dessert”. The juice from well-chilled glass bottles was mixed together in a pre-chilled glass. So it was a real treat! I can recommend the stairs 100%. Everything is just right here!

Beautiful, small, cozy restaurant in a picturesque setting directly below the church. The service was very nice and attentive, the price-performance ratio was also very good and the food was a dream. Small restriction, but not a problem in itself, no EC payment possible.

Together with two friends we looked for a beer garden in Kettwig and enjoyed the typical atmosphere with a wonderful view of the Ruhr on this very hot day. Everyone had ordered a different dish that was very appetizingly prepared and extremely tasty. The friendly service should also be praised. We would be happy to come back again.

The outside chairs were very, very hard on the back despite the seat cushions.

Wir waren hier an einem Samstag, mit der Familie haben uns die Altstadt in Kettwig etwas angeschaut. Sind dann auf die Stiege Gestoßen, ein Biergarten mit wunderschönem Ausblick. Die Bedienung war sehr Freundlich. Das Bier war natürlich Erfrischend. Nur etwas zu voll. Als Vorspeise hatten wir das Carpaccio mit Gerösteten Baguette Parmesan und Salat wirklich sehr schön angerichtet mit viel Liebe. Dann ging es weiter, Gebratene Doraden Filets Bulgursalat Der Fisch knusprig gebraten aber noch glasig mit frischen Kräutern schön Buttrig Der Bulgursalat der absolute Hammer ( Haben wir sofort der netten Bedienung mitgeteilt.) Medaillons Rumpsteak auf Salbeipüree Pfifferlingen Kräuterbutter ( Das Fleisch perfekt Medium der Geschmack Grandios mit Kräutern durch Butter geschwenkt die Pfifferlinge, Püree , Kräuterbutter ein absoluter Traum !. Leberkäse Bratkartoffeln Krautsalat Sehr lecker die Bratkartoffeln knusprig alles sehr lecker Gnocchi in Gorgonzola Soße Super Grandios Wienerschnitzel, Bratkartoffeln, Pfifferlingsoße Die Schnitzel so wie sie sein müssen knusprig innen saftig die Panade luftig Butter Note so wie die Bratkartoffeln Liebe zum Detail die Speisen sehr schön Angerichtet! Meine Frau, Freunde und ICH waren total begeistert, jeder hat von jeden probiert. Die Frage der Damen stand im Raum, wie man die Bratkartoffeln so Knusprig bekommt. Auf dem Weg zur Toilette die neben der Küche liegt konnten wir den Koch dann selbst fragen, und uns natürlich für das tolle Essen Bedanken. Hat alle Fragen den Damen Beantwortet Sehr sympathisch! Da weiß jemand was er tut, und wie man es perfekt macht. Wir kommen wieder! Vielen Dank

Had the pleasure of visiting the stairs again after many years: The advantage was that we had a real company once and almost a complete group the other time. Nevertheless, with around 50 people, it was not possible to order in a timely manner. Unfortunately, some of the waitresses overlooked you and were sometimes quite abrupt. In contrast to other reviews, the food was fine for all participants on both days. Previously an institution, today it's just a meeting place!

Always beautiful! From the beer garden you have a great view of the Ruhr and it is really pleasant in summer. The food is first class! Unfortunately you can only pay in cash, you have to know that. But one time I didn't have enough cash and was allowed to just come back the next day and pay the rest, which was great and very nice. The stairs are always worth a visit :)

The location is okay, especially when the weather is nice it is quite pleasant to sit outside. The service, on the other hand, is a complete disaster. The service was completely overwhelmed and couldn't manage to hand out menus even after waiting half an hour, let alone provide information that it would take a while because the shop was a bit full.

Wir 4 waren an einem Montag in der Vorweihnachtszeit in der Stiege, froh an einem Montag ein geöffnetes Gasthaus gefunden zu haben. Das Haus uralt und urgemütlich. Wir hatten die Gänsebrust ( butterzart) mit Klößen und Rotkohl und Grünkohl, der frisch und mit genau richtigem Biss serviert wurde. Der Service war superfreundlich und die Preise überraschend günstig. Und als sich auch der Chef noch persönlich Zeit für uns nahm, wurde es ein rundum gelungener Abend. Wir haben sofort einen neuen Termin ausgemacht.

A nice beer garden was actually not recommended there on a very hot day! In the back the stone wall in front of the Ruhr glass panes as a windbreak and the roof also as protection from the sun - you sit like you're in an oven! I actually expected you could see the Ruhr, unfortunately not! The large beer came quickly and was nice and cold and the service was very nice! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my currywurst, as I knew it was completely different, and the sauce was very pale in taste and thin, which was probably made hot in the fat from the sausage. On the plate, there was a lot of oil on the edge. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes that were ordered with it were also most likely not finished products at all Crispy but plenty all in all a disappointment! And that for the most expensive currywurst I have ever ordered!

Das Lokal liegt mitten in der schönen Altstadt, direkt unterhalb der Kirche. Personal sehr freundlich. Waren mit 16 Wanderern dort und haben unterschiedliche Gerichte gegessen. Vom Eintop über Currywurst und Kuchen. Alle waren sehr zufrieden.

Nach einem langen Tag auf der Messe in Essen kam ich abends hier an. Die Bedingung war super das Bier hat geschmeckt! Nach dem dritten Bier wollte ich einen kleinen Happen ne Portion Pommes oder ähnliches. Leider konnte ich das nicht bestellen ohne eine Currywurst dazu zu bekommen. Das Personal ist klasse die Umgebung ist klasse aber leider wird nicht auf Kundenwünsche eingegangen. Bitte arbeiten sie daran!
