What I define as a typical German pub, the waitresses in typical dress are truly picturesque. Good cuisine with typical local dishes. Light but good beer.

A nice, beautiful Bavarian restaurant that suited our tastes, which we found by chance while walking and invited us to stop by. Nice and fast staff. Prices for food and drinks were good. The portions were sufficient. We were full. There was plenty of choice on the menu when we ordered the knuckles I pointed out that you have to wait about 30 mi. That's ok, the only thing I missed on the menu was the sausage salad It's a must in a Bavarian restaurant, but everything else is to our satisfaction. Should we be in Essen again, we'll be happy to visit the Löwe Brauhaus again😊

Staff polite and attentive. Food topic: Some of the menu compositions were difficult to understand for a person coming from Franconia (Bavaria). Therefore no orders were placed on our part. The schnitzels we then ordered were well made (airy parade). You can't go wrong with the Viennese style and the pepper schnitzel was good too. There were fries as a side dish. So there was nothing wrong with the visit :)

We were there with the whole company and were immediately greeted with a brilliant snack plate. We dealt with it at our leisure and then turned our attention to the main courses. Although everyone ordered something different, all the main courses came at the same time. Impressive - and mighty delicious! Our tip: the knuckle and the various schnitzels. Red cabbage and sauerkraut are great! A dessert still fit in. Ice cream is always possible. ;) We received great advice, had all our special requests fulfilled and found it so nice that we lasted a really long time. Went to the Roaring Lion today and despite the food being original, everything was perfect! The staff was quick, very open, attentive and simply warm and the food, which took around 40 minutes due to the busyness, was also perfect. FYI: The staff warned that it might take some time. But it came quite quickly and was great. The light Löwenbräu also tasted very good and the cappuccino and apple strudel at the end were no worse. I have nothing to complain about and see you as one of the top addresses in downtown Essen! See you next time!

Went to Löwen a week ago 🦁 The goulash and the shashlik skewer were super plentiful and very tasty. The asparagus soup beforehand was also very good. The service was very competent. We look forward to the next visit.

Total disappointment, the food didn't taste good at all, the knuckle was no longer fresh and dried out, the dumpling was even half raw, definitely not homemade. Schnitzel wasn't any better either. Waited almost a quarter of an hour just to order a glass of water because the staff preferred to smoke or chat. Only got a small table, even though the restaurant was almost completely empty on Sunday evening. You weren't allowed to choose the table yourself. But cashing in was surprisingly quick.

I imagine that at the beginning of the year the side dish portions were larger and the onions on the Holstein Schnitzel didn't have as much sauce, but other than that I have nothing to complain about. Every dish so far has been delicious!

An absolutely great restaurant! The Löwenbräu on tap is exceptionally good. I've eaten there several times with my parents. The knuckle is great! 5 Stars. The ox cheeks are also great! 5 Stars. According to my mother, the veggiburger is also very, very good. But I won't try it 🤣 The last thing I ate there was a cordon bleu - with extra pepper sauce. Mega! 5 Stars. Ate there 3 times during our food trip. Everything is very good. Friendly staff who don't let themselves be disturbed even when a group of Munich football fans come. Tip: Holsteiner Schnitzel. A large portion with fried eggs and onions. Plus the fine beer from Bavaria. Try! Thank you for the hospitality.

Never ever, bad service, bad food, after 45 minutes of waiting we got our farmer's schnitzel with “real” mountain cheese. I wouldn't have mentioned the word mountain cheese in the menu. You go here once and never again

Very funny waiters and waitresses, Bavarian beer in the pot (even custom beer), one of the best knuckles I've eaten so far! (Unfortunately it was a bit loud during the Essen-Original, but otherwise I think it was really great and cozy in such a big city!) We are also guests during the Bogen European Championships and we are officially welcomed here! What could be better? Absolutely nothing!

May 10, 2024: In Essen, the food at “Der Löwe” is very tasty and very good. Home cooking made perfect. Compliments to the kitchen. Service could be better. Ordered drinks are swapped and so is dessert. Everything else really recommended!

No food received! They could only offer us gyros. We came from Bottrop for Bavarian food and were able to return home with an empty stomach. Yes, that's right. Was regulated very correctly.

The knuckle was tender and falling apart. Very good. The pretzel was frozen, I would say. But that doesn't make it bad. The coleslaw...I liked it. Hope it wasn't also a convenience product. The ambience. Brauhaus character and incredibly loud. You have to speak very loudly to be understood. I didn't like that at all.

You are absolutely amazing! There's nothing to complain about except for one small thing: unfortunately they don't show football. If you also showed football, it would take your gastronomy to a new level. I wish this would be realized so that you can watch the Bundesliga or maybe even Rot-Weiss Essen in the best weather.

Very good service and a hearty, original atmosphere. Unfortunately the food wasn't convincing. However, the Obazda was very well prepared. The classic Haxe, on the other hand, was disappointing. However, it's nice that there is such a location in downtown Essen, so you should definitely go and try it out.

Bavarian food.....😆, well... Quite far away, absolute disappointment. Very simple cold plate that stays “cold” for the guests. Prepared without love, tasteless, even sour cucumbers tasted like NOTHING. Not recommended, just not 🫣. There is no talking about the ⭐️ reviews.

For people who like the Bavarian ambience and cuisine. I was invited. I actually don't like Bavarian culture at all. I ordered heaven and earth. It was very good and tasty. The portion was a bit small, so I could have really had a starter beforehand. Then I ordered a dessert. Apple strudel with vanilla sauce . It was then served in a plastic soup plate where you could look for the strudel with a magnifying glass. But the taste was great.

We have been guests at the Löwen on and off for many years and are always satisfied. The food is brewery fare and always very tasty. Very nice staff, good atmosphere and the best Bavarian beer. We always enjoy coming back.
