Great steaks, top service - depending on the seating location, perhaps a bit too loud, but I'd gladly come again anytime!

The surf and turf was delicious. The steak and shrimp were cooked to perfection, but the service needs improvement. The value for money isn't the best either. The ambiance is nice, but the cobwebs on the champagne bottles and the dust should be removed.

Overall, the price-performance ratio isn't right for me. Truffle fries are regular fries with mayo, with a truffle flavor. They're okay, but not good enough for the extra cost. I had a dish with pork, beef, and rack of lamb. I spit out whole pieces of the beef and pork because they were tough and inedible. Very unpleasant for me and not appropriate for a restaurant that specializes in meat. We expected more and were disappointed.

The steak was very good, the side dishes were excellent. The service was attentive and friendly.

So, this location is truly top-notch. From the attentive, unpretentiously friendly, and professional service, to the high-quality and beautifully presented food, and, above all, the fantastic ambiance, everything is just right. We had a truly wonderful evening at Steakhaus River. The meat was grilled to perfection, tender and juicy – ​​just what you'd expect from a good steakhouse. The side dishes were fresh and well-balanced, and the homemade sauces were particularly impressive. The ambiance is both stylish and cozy, making you feel immediately at home. The service was attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. The value for money is absolutely spot on – you really get a lot for the quality here. The name of the place—no idea how anyone can be so creative. The location itself was okay. We sat outside, had burgers and drinks, etc. Everything was basically okay. Prices were typical of a restaurant in 2025. Take it or leave it. Price/performance ratio was okay. The service, as far as the work itself was concerned, was okay. No one really came across as friendly. However, I think I recognized Balkan Roots, and if you know a little about the Balkans, you know what makes people tick, and for that, it was ultimately okay. So, nothing outstanding, but fine for what was offered. We would come back. The food was tasty, and even though we sat there for a long time, they didn't throw us out.

We've been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time and see for ourselves. I can agree with many of the previous reviewers: The location is quite nice, I really liked the ambiance inside, but the service here isn't exactly friendly, as they do what they're supposed to, and sometimes only upon request. The food isn't exactly inedible, but the salad, side dishes, and meat aren't of the highest quality. The salad is canned, cheap, and made from ready-made sauce, and the meat is either tough or overseasoned. I'll spare you the taste of the side dishes, as there aren't any. The condition of the menu makes you want to leave the restaurant immediately, but we definitely wanted to try it and see for ourselves. Appearances are great, but reality is flop. You won't see us there again.

The waiters have absolutely no desire to work, and they let you know it right away. The food was good, and I thought the price/performance ratio was okay. There were a lot of bitter bits on the end of my salad, and I had to hunt for the dressing. The meat was fantastic, and the side dishes were good. They serve you dry bread first. No herb butter or anything like that. Still, we didn't feel comfortable there. If the waiters would just smile, it would be a completely different experience. As we left the restaurant, we were able to peek into the kitchen from outside and see a filthy kitchen. The floor was incredibly dirty, and there were towels lying around. The cigarette smoke from a waitress sitting outside drifted into the kitchen. Delicious. It was our first time there, and also our last. Hagen has more to offer ☺️

This was one of my worst restaurant experiences. We wanted to sit on the terrace with four people at 5:20 p.m. At the restaurant, I asked the waiter at the counter if that was okay. He was just busy with his phone and referred us to another waiter. The waiter then directed us to the farthest table on the terrace. Then he came and wanted to take our order without us having a menu. When I pointed out that we wanted a menu first, he brought exactly one (!) menu for four people. We then left the establishment without comment and will never return.

The seating is very pleasant both inside and outside, great service, delicious food, and reasonable prices for the quality. Highly recommended!

The lunch menu is more than adequate. The same goes for the kids' meals. Service is mediocre, and the salad... well, it's rather disappointing. It's carelessly served with too much yogurt dressing, which is probably store-bought. We've been visiting the River every now and then for years. The ambiance is lovely, absolutely delicious, and they definitely know their meat. But the rest... like the restrooms, could use some improvement. We'll visit the River again because we know what we're getting into. As mentioned, the lunch menu is highly recommended, and if you order the salad dressing separately, it's fine. I would highly recommend the River to anyone who has to wait too long at the Extrablatt. Drinks, etc., are also available there. Cocktails are also available.

We went there for dinner today. It's a nice place, but the price/performance ratio is absolutely not justified. Almost €30 for such a small schnitzel is definitely too much, and the taste wasn't particularly good, so you could say it was okay. When asked, the waiter admitted that several guests had complained about the portions. We went to McDonald's afterward.

We had specifically reserved a table for three people outside by phone and asked several times to be sure that this was guaranteed, which was repeatedly confirmed. Once we got there, we were intercepted by the owner, who wanted to assign us an uncomfortable table in the intermediate area. He justified this by saying that an outside table had not been noted in his records. One of his employees intervened skillfully and routinely and told us that he would quickly clear another table outside for us and that we could then sit there, which we did. As Herdecke natives, we would not have expected such behavior from the owner right from the start. The food was beyond reproach, but the prices for beef steaks were significantly too high. We therefore limited ourselves to ordering turkey steaks, which were delicious, as were the side dishes. The clientele was very mixed, and at times out of place, in a restaurant of this kind in the high-turnover Herdecke on the Ruhr. We found women's colorfully tattooed bare torsos rather unpleasant, as did unshaven men of Arab descent with braids and the corresponding clothing style. This clearly needs improvement.

They were a bit overwhelmed during our visit. No greeting, hectic, and no inquiries about further requests (drinks).

The service was simply abysmal. No greeting, but the menus were brought to the table pretty quickly. I had to ask for the drinks menu. It didn't go down well. Stressed and arrogant. It was 3:00 p.m. and the place was almost empty. What's wrong with you? The one star is for the food. The chili cheeseburger, with the only chili stuck whole at the top of the bun, tasted good. The Wiener schnitzel was okay, but the breading was quite greasy. The plates were visually lackluster. In this price range, we're simply used to something different. Unfortunately, we can't recommend you.

The first visit was inside, the second was outside. It's quite a difference. The tenderloin was super tender. The baked potato was just right, and so were the onion rings. The other server was nicer and more attentive. Therefore, the review has been improved.

Staff were only moderately friendly upon entering. No greeting from the kitchen. One would expect that, given the way the restaurant presents itself. Cheeseburger: The plate was warmed, but the ground beef was full of tendons and gristle. The sour cream tasted chemically and wasn't creamy. The espresso came without any "accompaniments" like cookies or chocolate. Restroom: A toilet paper roll was on top, and there was no soap at two sinks. All in all: Pretty unloving, but expensive. We won't be back.

The daily specials are also really great value for money. The service is friendly and always ready without being intrusive. The wheelchair-accessible entrance and the available disabled restroom are worth mentioning. All in all, highly recommended... It wasn't crowded at lunch. Seven of us had dinner with a table reservation. The food was very tasty and freshly prepared. I think it's a shame that you have to order a side salad separately. It could have been included in the price, which is a shame. The staff was friendly.

We were here for dinner on a Monday, it was relatively quiet. We were received very friendly, although one or two of the employees could have enjoyed working a little more. The food was really delicious, we had nothing to complain about ☺️ It was also baby-friendly here. High chairs are available.

As a solo traveler, I was assigned the worst possible seat opposite the toilet, even though there were still a lot of free seats. The starter salad was served with hardly any sauce, along with the main course. The burger was overcooked and very dry. The requested ketchup was not brought. And when I asked the waiter whether I liked it, he delivered it without saying a word. A special way of dealing with the guest. In short: money wasted for poor quality.

We had a salad, a steak with fries and sour cream. . The salad was much too sour, we were offered a new one, but we didn't want to take the risk of getting another salad that was too sour. In the end, the full price of €18.90 was still taken. The steak was good, the fries were okay, the sour cream was just disappointing. We wouldn't come again.

A great experience at this steakhouse! The food was excellent, both the main courses and the side dishes were delicious. We were warmly welcomed and served just as courteously. The atmosphere inside is exceptional and tastefully decorated. Absolutely recommended!

Very good service from the young lady

Unfortunately, the really appealing ambience didn't compensate for the quality of the food. "Big Turkey" was more of a "little turkey" with 7 lukewarm mushroom slices. The potato chips were ok. But at €23 the dish is overpriced!! Twice the amount of mushrooms wouldn't ruin the restaurant, but it would at least improve the dish somewhat. In general, the presentation on the plates was careless. We've experienced something different in the river. Unfortunately the steak was not medium rare but very rare. In a steakhouse you expect the chef to cook the meat to perfection. We were ignored by the service during the meal and sat for a long time with empty glasses.

I have been a regular guest in this house for 3 years now. Great food here! No.1 when it comes to steaks.

Yesterday I was on the river for the second time and unfortunately I was disappointed for the second time. The 400g sirloin steak I ordered medium rare was unfortunately bloody. After I complained, the boss immediately collected it and “refried it”. Unfortunately, when it came back not much had changed. No further complaint was necessary, after cutting the steak the boss saw from a distance that it was still almost raw and got us a hot cast iron pan with which we could cook it ourselves. Well, €42... I think you can expect that the otherwise really first-class steak is cooked to perfection. At the first attempt, of course. And yes, it makes them uncomfortable and they apologize a thousand times... it still remains the case that I would like something different in the price range.

I had a veal schnitzel, a hefty price, and there weren't even any vegetables or salad. But the crowning glory was that it was totally salty... I complained and the waiter said, "Oh," that's it... Great reaction. Oh, about the kitchen, where so much went back... Nothing... I've never experienced anything like that and I've been to a few restaurants and have been rating them for a long time...

The food was really great and the service was excellent and very accommodating. The sanitary facilities are very clean and there are enough parking spaces. The location is wonderful, almost right on the water. In summer you can sit outside. We recommend combining your visit with a walk along the Ruhr. Our conclusion: definitely try it out!!

Delicious food, great service, great value for money

Short card between the holidays. Had "Big Turkey", cold potato chips, sauce from the packet and cold mushrooms on the turkey schnitzel. Overall, the food was at chip shop level. Unfortunately there was no more service for drinks, so it was just a drink. Cheesecake was very tasty, but unfortunately you can't eat it.

The meat was excellent and the premises were very nice. Unfortunately, the service was taciturn, inattentive and had no idea about serving rules. You would have overlooked it if you had received a smile every now and then.

The schnitzel was small and cold and it didn't taste fresh. For €29.99 you can eat better somewhere else. The service was very nice and accommodating. The ambience was good, but unfortunately it wasn't worth it for food.

2nd Christmas Eve. Ambience nice. Food was okay. But the great thing was that on my aunt's bill the fillet was listed as €24 instead of €22 as the Christmas card said. When asked about it, the answer was “it has become more expensive”. I've never experienced that before! If this is the case, this must be pointed out beforehand. And 0.2 liters of Primitivo cost €9.90 😃 now I know why there was no drinks menu. Merry Christmas!

We were here with four people at lunchtime. The extensive menu offered something for every taste. The food is offered in the upper middle price segment, but an always current lunch menu also offers something for smaller budgets. The quality of the food brought to us by friendly and attentive service was commensurate with the price and the portion sizes were good. The location is clean and it is very comfortable to sit here. And our four-legged friend was also welcome. Since the large paid parking lot is directly in front of the restaurant, it is also easily accessible for people with disabilities, as are the sanitary rooms. This was our first visit, but it was so positive that we would like to come back.

We were here for our anniversary and I have to say, one of the best steaks I've had so far. Not cheap, but really good and worth the money.

So we were there on Sunday. It was the first and last time. Baked potato lukewarm on the other food fries just before black. Meat wasn't really nice either.

The food was good, fries were very tasty, the schnitzel had been in the pan a little too long, but still tasty. Worth 28 euros. No, not, but the food was delicious. For that price the sign itself could have been made up. Again, good food but not cheap.

Wir waren zu viert, 2 Pärchen, dort zum Essen und haben uns auf einen schönen Abend gefreut. Doch ein Gericht kam leider nicht so, wie es bestellt war. Gedacht und angeboten wurden die kleinen „Baby-Calamares“, es wurden aber große, zähe Calamares mit den drei anderen Gerichten an den Tisch gebracht. Der Kellner sagte,man hätte normalerweise die kleinen Calamares, aber heute wären sie nicht mehr zu haben und dafür hätte man eben die Großen zubereitet. Man könnte auch etwas Anderes servieren, aber dann müsse man halt warten (und später allein essen)., bis etwas Anderes zubereitet wäre. Das wollten wir dann auch nicht. Im Endeffekt ein Fehler, so hat man dann für Kartoffeln und Spinat 26€ bezahlt. Der Kellner hätte bei der Bestellung oder direkt danach auf den Mangel hinweisen müssen, und nicht frech das verkehrte Gericht an den Tisch bringen. Es gab keine Entschuldigung, oder vielleicht eine kleine Wiedergutmachung auf Kosten des Hauses. Auch die Bedienung konnte man nicht als gut bezeichnen, hier ist noch viel Luft nach oben. Wenn wir wieder in Herdecke sind, werden wir dieses Lokal mit Sicherheit nicht aufsuchen.

It was our first time in the "River"...unfortunately probably the last time too. The food was well made, some of it high quality (Surf&Turf, Chateubriand); appropriate for the fairly high prices. The ambience is okay: the weather made it possible to sit on the terrace, so being close to the lake obviously has advantages and disadvantages (view vs. mosquitoes/flies). But overall a nice place. The service (attention, friendliness, attitude), on the other hand, is a clear reason for us not to visit the restaurant again. Examples? The reference to a lukewarm wheat - immediately after serving - was dismissed with the grumpy answer "that's how it comes from the barrel", and no remedy was provided. Sometimes it took more than 10 minutes (despite not many visitors last night) before a waiter even came to our table upon request - to take a drink request, mind you. A dish was served fresh in a pan - a good idea in itself... bad only when the pan continued to decorate the table and clothes with splashes of fat for several minutes. This suggestion was also received with a shrug of the shoulders. Unfortunately, the entire interaction was very rude and unfriendly - mind you, despite very friendly advice. Unfortunately, despite the high-quality and well-made food, this evening remains very negatively remembered. Too bad!

Wir gehen eigentlich sehr gerne im "River" essen. Essen und Service sind sehr gut. Aber..... Leider sitze ich im Rollstuhl und bin auf die Behinderten Toilette angewiesen. Zum genussvoll Essen gehört auch, wenn erforderlich, ein Gang zur Toilette. Immer wieder ist es schwierig zur Toilette zu kommen. Letzten Samstag war es so eng, das ich nicht nur die Schiebetür gaaanz schlecht schließen konnte, sowie schlecht zur Toilette kam, sondern auch nicht ans Waschbecken kam um mir die Hände zu waschen. Da lagen auf dem Boden zwei Pinkelbecken von der normalen Herrentoilette. Die blockierten den Zugang zum Waschbecken mit dem Rollstuhl.

Was there again, this time again Chateaubriand for two. Super tasty, great side dishes, funny and fast service. Inside you sit in a rather stylish, cozy atmosphere, outside it is very beautiful in the Ruhr meadows.

Wir waren am 13.8. mit 6 Personen zum Abendessen im "River. Die Mahlzeiten waren durchweg sehr schmackhaft und von sehr guter Qualität. Die Bedienung erschien kompetent und freundlich. Die Rechnung von ca, 350 € erschien uns etwas hoch. Bei genauer Kontrolle erschien neben der korrekten Abrechnung der Mahlzeiten und Getränke ein Betrag von über 30 €, der als "Trinkgeld" bezeichnet war. Ein Trinkgeld war mit dem Kellner weder vereinbart noch überhaupt besprochen worden. Auf unseren Protest hin wurde eine neue, korrekte Kartenabrechnung erstellt - ohne diesen Betrag. Für mich ein klarer Betrugsversuch ! Eine genaue Kontrolle der Rechnung wird dringend empfohlen !

The food was very good. 5 stars for that. Unfortunately our waiter was very unfriendly. After we got the food, he didn't really care about us. Maybe we would have had something to drink or have dessert. If the service is good, you'll want to stay. Unfortunately there was no tip for that either.

Wir waren an meinem Geburtstag dort essen. Eines vorab das was an den Tisch gebracht wurde war von der Qualität her gut. Das meiste danach eine Katastrophe. Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert dem wir auch schnell zugewiesen wurden. Die Bestellung der Getränke verlief reibungslos. Nach mehrfacher Nachfrage (oder Drängeln) bestellten wir unsere gewünschten Gerichte. Außer meinem Gericht (Geburtstagskind?) waren alle gebrachten Gerichte falsch. Wir schauten extra nochmal in die Karte ,ob wir was falsch gemacht hatten, aber der Fehler lag nicht bei uns. Auf unsere Reklamation erfolgte nur ein kurzes „das ist schon richtig so“. Da wir keine Lust auf Diskussionen hatten, haben meine Lieben ihr Essen aufgegessen. Dann wollten wir bezahlen und bekamen die Rechnung auf der ein Aperol Spritz stand den keiner getrunken hatte. Nach Korrektur der Rechnung keine Entschuldigung, auch so war die Bedienung ziemlich arrogant.

It was so delicious, I had to eat it twice. Truffle puree and 2 steaks, delicious wine, it wasn't well attended on football evening and I enjoyed the peace and quiet. The taste made up for the high price. It is very close to the Zweibrücker Hof. It's been there again, it's so delicious.
