It was our first time in the "River"...unfortunately probably the last time too. The food was well made, some of it high quality (Surf&Turf, Chateubriand); appropriate for the fairly high prices. The ambience is okay: the weather made it possible to sit on the terrace, so being close to the lake obviously has advantages and disadvantages (view vs. mosquitoes/flies). But overall a nice place. The service (attention, friendliness, attitude), on the other hand, is a clear reason for us not to visit the restaurant again. Examples? The reference to a lukewarm wheat - immediately after serving - was dismissed with the grumpy answer "that's how it comes from the barrel", and no remedy was provided. Sometimes it took more than 10 minutes (despite not many visitors last night) before a waiter even came to our table upon request - to take a drink request, mind you. A dish was served fresh in a pan - a good idea in itself... bad only when the pan continued to decorate the table and clothes with splashes of fat for several minutes. This suggestion was also received with a shrug of the shoulders. Unfortunately, the entire interaction was very rude and unfriendly - mind you, despite very friendly advice. Unfortunately, despite the high-quality and well-made food, this evening remains very negatively remembered. Too bad!

The service has always been a little rough, but in combination with poorly prepared steak (well done to tough) it is unfortunately no longer recommended.

Was there again, this time again Chateaubriand for two. Super tasty, great side dishes, funny and fast service. Inside you sit in a rather stylish, cozy atmosphere, outside it is very beautiful in the Ruhr meadows.

Beautifully located restaurant next to the Ruhr. The food is very good. When the house is full, the service is a bit overwhelmed, but you make up for it with a free drink. I can recommend it to everyone. Reservation would be an advantage.

The food was very good. 5 stars for that. Unfortunately our waiter was very unfriendly. After we got the food, he didn't really care about us. Maybe we would have had something to drink or have dessert. If the service is good, you'll want to stay. Unfortunately there was no tip for that either.

It was so delicious, I had to eat it twice. Truffle puree and 2 steaks, delicious wine, it wasn't well attended on football evening and I enjoyed the peace and quiet. The taste made up for the high price. It is very close to the Zweibrücker Hof. It's been there again, it's so delicious.

The food is too expensive for the quality offered and the preparation is poor. Doneness levels for fillet steaks were not met. The underground staff tried to downplay it, but it's easy to assume that the waiter didn't even know the English/Bleu degree of doneness. 2 people in our group ordered the English/Bleu steaks. It was delivered medium well. Only after a lot of resistance did the waiter complain about this to the kitchen and the ones that were then delivered were, with benevolence, medium, but far from English. The waiter was unfriendly and often used his tone incorrectly. He also had no idea about wine. Drinks were delivered incorrectly or not at all, and side dishes were sometimes forgotten. Unfortunately, the beautiful ambience cannot overlook the incompetence and unfriendliness of the service and kitchen staff. If you want good steaks and appropriate service, this is the wrong place.

Very warm welcome despite the fact that we spoke no German and very little English as well. The server kindly adapted. Excellent dishes despite perhaps a slightly high price but the quality is there. Meat at 45 euros for 300 grams but so good I don't regret it. You have to know how to pay the price to get quality. And beer as good as ever 🍻

Nice atmosphere, that’s it. Were there in a larger group of people. My Wiener Schnitzel was okay, but not a highlight. There were two smaller slices that were quite thick for a Wiener Schnitzel, but unfortunately they had noticeable fat edges, so about a third remained on the plate. Waiters mostly have a very unfriendly tone towards guests. Questions about drinks were also simply ignored or ignored. My feet were stepped on several times while the waiter was at the table and my head was grazed several times as I walked past. No apologies were made once. The ambience makes a good impression. Nevertheless, I don't see the pricing as justified considering the quality of the food and the service. I will not come a second time and will not recommend this restaurant. There are clearly (!) better places in this price segment. A visit to a restaurant should always be special and beautiful, that was not the case here. It was “okay” at best.

The food was really good except for the mushy baked potato, but the service was subpar. When faced with the same fillet steaks at different levels of doneness, we were instructed to find out which belonged to whom by cutting them. While serving, the waiter leaned over us as guests and pushed us aside. When we ordered water, we were instructed to first take what was on the table (another person had ordered this). We chose this restaurant to say goodbye , because the service is often praised, but none of us will visit this restaurant again.

Excellent make your reservations before you go

It's actually a nice ambience, but the bottom line is that it's more appearance than reality. The steak fries rival those from McDonald's. The meat was okay but not quite in keeping with the price. The waiter smiled for the first time when he got a tip. During the meal there were no other questions as to whether everything was OK or whether anything was needed. There was no soap or towels in the toilet... If you want to spend a lot of money you'll definitely be happier somewhere else. Not bad. But not good either.

Friendly, fast service, delicious food with a very nice view of the Ruhr (we had a window seat in the restaurant). Particularly nice view of nature if you sit outside in good weather! Very nice! Parking available right in front of the door.

A really great restaurant! We had prawns as a starter, a fillet steak as the main course and a lava cake with vanilla ice cream as desert. Everything was really excellent. We'll definitely be back!

I was there twice. One 500g beef fillet, one Turnedeo plate. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the price-performance ratio is not right at all. Neither time was it possible to fry the steak medium as desired. Way too raw. Also quite sparse in terms of the total quantity! I mentioned it after dinner, but nothing happened other than “guilty”. I don't blame the service. Nice guy. I can't judge what the others are like. The thing is very simple: if I want an exquisite steakhouse and demand corresponding prices, which is definitely the case, then I have to deliver. Or I'll let it go. My fellow diners are of the same opinion.

Furnishings and impression: An elegant guest room, an interior designer has gone wild. We reserved a table four weeks in advance, but the table presented was rather unpleasant for nine people. 5 people had to squeeze onto the bench, the oval table didn't offer comfort everywhere. The table is neatly set with cloth servers. It was difficult to hang jackets in the wardrobe. Children's chairs and chairs are stored there and there is no space for jackets or even coats. Service: Missed warmth and hospitality. You don't pretend you're in a run-of-the-mill restaurant, but when it comes to service you're better off at the chain next door. Politeness, calmness, acceptance of the guest is non-existent. The waiter is in constant stress taking orders. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get rid of all my desires. The requested ketchup never arrived and a second request was not possible. No asking if everything is okay. We actually got a second card for the dessert order. With luck and perseverance we managed to complete the entire order. After 5 minutes of waiting you could at least get a sign that you wanted to pay. Attentive service staff would have asked if you needed anything else when all the plates had been cleared and all the glasses were empty. Food and drink: Here, too, I set standards that relate to furnishings and pricing. I only saw individual dishes in more detail. Portions were OK. Everyone ate and was full. Overall, I was missing a lot. A closer look at two BBQ plates. My wish for a different supplement. Fries instead of fried potatoes were offered free of charge. Various grilled pieces of meat were mostly well cooked. Unfortunately the beef was over on both plates. In my piece you could still see a touch of pink. Since there was no dip or sauce, and the thumbnail-sized piece of herb butter was already melting on another piece, the dish was very dry. A bit of Aivar, BBQ or anything would have been a dream. You could think that about all the dishes at the table. The fried potatoes on the next plate should never have been served like that: the black thing that was left was probably onions and bacon. The ketchup was not offered and was not given when asked, simply forgotten. Side salad, grilled vegetables, no other components. I hope the high-priced steaks have a higher quality and love on the plate and product. The desserts were all ok and also reasonably priced. Visually and qualitatively good, although most of them will be convenience products. The evenly perfect, evenly running lava cakes would be a miracle given the stress of meat. It's not just a restaurant, it's also a bar. The normal, but here expensive, drinks can be presented appropriately. An ice cube, a lemon work wonders. Overall, more appearance than reality. Yes, we didn't eat the high-priced dishes, but everything was supposed to be harmonious and it wasn't. For €33 pp for a drink, a main course and a dessert or coffee drink, I expect more. I was here for the second time and both times I had the same impression. I'm amazed at the high ratings, unfortunately I don't share them! Maybe it would be a star or even two higher if expectations were that high based on pricing and design. The spark didn't fly. Oh yes. Parking cost us another €12 for the three cars we needed. At least the first hour is free.

Here I ate the best steak 🥩 in the region! Atmospheric furnishings and friendly, professional service - I can only recommend it!!!

Very stylish steak restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. Many windows provide a beautiful view of the Ruhr promenade. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive. The food is of good quality and worth the price. Another highlight is the great bar area. Everything very tasteful.

Great steaks in a great atmosphere! This of course has its price. But this is justified for what is offered. Thumbs up 👍

The atmosphere is super pleasant and beautiful. The service is friendly and very good. The quality of the food is high, but unfortunately the portion sizes are very small. As a starter there was bruschetta, which consisted of two slices of baguette with some mozzarella and a tomato each. The main course was a Wiener Schnitzel with fries. The schnitzel was two smaller schnitzels and a rather small portion of fries. Unfortunately there was some gristle in the schnitzel.

Steaks sind lecker der Service ist gut und das Ambiente ist Geschmackssache. Der Biergarten mit Blick auf die Ruhr ist ist sicherlich Klasse. Preislich ist man im oberen Segment bei Steakhäuser allerdings normal.

Essen und Service sind meiner Meinung nach so gut wie es geht, perfekt. Das ganze Restaurant ist ein sehr großer Raum was es etwas laut und nicht so ganz gemütlich macht. Empfehlen würde ich den Laden aber jedem.

Sehr leckeres Essen. Portionen ausreichend. Zu den Feiertagen eine reduzierte Speisekarte.

Normalerweise ist es hier top und richtig super in allen Punkten. ABER: gestern, 2. Weihnachtstag 2023 war doch einiges irritierend: 1. Die Organisation der Reservierungen. Wir hatten auf 18 Uhr einen Tisch für fünf Personen reserviert, was bestätigt wurde. Wir standen zusammen mit anderen Gästen, die zum Großteil ebenfalls reserviert hatten, über eine halbe Stunde draußen und mussten warten, bis Tische frei gemacht und vorbereitet waren. 2. Es gab eine reduzierte Speisekarte (aufgrund des Weihnachtsgeschäftes absolut verständlich). Die Preise jedoch lagen durch die Bank locker 15 % über denen der regulären Speisekarte, die im Internet veröffentlich ist. 3. Ein Mitglied unserer Familie hatte ein Rib-Eye-Steak medium bestellt und bekam es englisch. Normalerweise kein Ding, kann passieren. ABER in Anbetracht der Preise und des Anspruches der Lokalität an sich selbst sollte so etwas nicht passieren. Fazit: Das River ist ein traumhaftes Lokal. Aber man sollte auch an hoch frequentierten Feiertagen lieber auf Klasse anstatt auf Masse setzen zugunsten der Qualität und Zufriedenheit der Gäste.

1 Weihnachtstag ein Tisch für 8 Personen reserviert. Der Kellner war total nervös .. Es musste alles schnell schnell gehen . Wir hatten 2 Kinder dabei .. wie man nach der Kinderkarte fragte ... sagte der Kellner sofort nicht für euch nur für Kinder .. die Karte haben wir nicht bekommen, er hat die Karte im Kopf sagte der Kellern .. Der Kellern sagte die Speisen für die Kinder so schnell ..das die Kinder nur Reis bestellt haben. Nach dem wir unser Essen dann hatten ... standen schon die nächsten an der Türe .. direkt wurde geguckt wie weit wir sind .. Der Tisch wurde abgeräumt im gehen wurde gefragt Nachtich .. Wir sagten ja die Karten bitte ... Nach ca.10 Minuten haben wir die Karten für den Nachtisch immer noch nicht bekommen.. Da standen die Leute immer noch an der Türe.. da kam ein anderer Mitarbeiter und sagte sind sie fertig.. Wir so ne warten auf die Karte vom Nachtisch .. Der man ist voll pissig weg gegangen .. Die Karten uns dahin gelegt wir hatten so gesehen 1 Minute Zeit den Nachtisch auszusuchen da der Herr da stand und wollte die Bestellung sofort aufnehmen. Keine 3 Minuten später kam der Nachtisch.. Nach dem Nachtisch kam sofort die Rechnung.. . und die Gäste die ca.20 Minuten an der Türe standen sind dann an diesem Tisch gekommen .. Wie Kalkuliert ihr Bitte... 16 Uhr da gewesen 17:20 wieder draußen..mit 8 Personen Wir haben uns garnicht wohlgefühlt.

Mein Stamm Steakhouse! Für mich das beste in der Region.

Wir hatten unsere Weihnachtsfeier hier. Der Service war sehr zuvorkommend. Das Ambiente war total schön und beruhigend. Das Essen war lecker aber man hätte auch fragen können wie wir unser Fleisch wollen. Mein Chateaubriand war noch ziemlich roh obwohl ich eher Medium bis Well Done toll gefunden hätte. Hatte nichtmal die Möglichkeit was zu sagen. Naja. Trotzdem war es ein toller Abend.

Sehr etepetete. Portionen sehr klein, Bratkartoffeln kleinste Portion jemals. Fleisch sehr gut, Service könnte aufmerksamer sein.

Der Service war sehr schnell, aber der Eindruck war, ihm war eigentlich alles egal. Die Vorspeise wurde hingestellt ohne weitere Erklärung, erst auf Nachfrage wurde die Suppe näher bezeichnet. Das Essen war sehr trocken, weder ein Dip noch eine Soße, die Beilage war, Bratkartoffeln, nur kurz durch die Pfanne geschwenkt.

Ein sehr schöner Abend in einem schicken Ambiente. Bedienung, Essen und alles drumherum war einfach gut und sehr lecker und absolut zu empfehlen. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder🥰

Also ich war vor ca. Einer Woche das erste Mal im river. Ich fand das Ambiente einfach super :) das einzige was ich zu kritisieren habe ist, dass es beim Essen keine Salatbeilage gibt. Ansonsten, ist es sehr sehr sehr empfehlenswert und ich würde jederzeit wieder kommen.

wir haben heute mit 8 Personen sehr gut und lecker gegessen. Die Qualität von Speisen und Service rechtfertigen die Preise. Wir werden gerne wieder hierher kommen.

Ich war am 01.11.2023 mit meinem Neffen zum Abendessen da. Die Steaks sind von hervorragender Qualität. Beim Service ist noch Luft nach oben. Während des Essens wurde nicht einmal nachgefragt ob uns das Essen schmeckt. Die Kellner waren damit beschäftigt ihre Spezis zu bespassen

Unser zweites Mal dort seit unserem Umzug nach Herdecke und es war wieder einmal fantastisch 👌🏻 Schönes Ambiente, aufmerksamer Service und frisch zubereitete Gerichte . Alles stimmig . Bis zum nächsten Mal

Gutes Essen in schönem Ambiente. Allerdings fanden wir es etwas zu teuer. Die Speisen könnten auch etwas netter angerichtet werden. Die Bedienung war nett, hat aber lieber den Gast zur Seite geschoben anstatt einmal um den Tisch herum zu gehen. Deswegen reicht es leider nicht für 5 Sterne.

Wir kommen wieder! Von 3 Gerichten waren 2 perfekt und beim Dritten war das Hähnchenfleisch etwas zu lange gegart. Ambiente super, sehr freundliches Personal😀
