I was at the Stadthaus Schänke yesterday; they serve good, home-style food. The service was super fast, and I didn't have to wait long for drinks or food. The pub was busy. You can sit outside and enjoy yourself. Stop by and let yourself be pampered. P.S. The food has been consistently excellent for months, and the service is always really friendly and super fast. 😃😃😃

We had lunch as a family and were very well received. The food was excellent. Menus in English are available.

At first, everything seemed fine; we placed our order. I ordered a lemonade, and the waitress asked me "white or yellow." She said the yellow one was made with oranges. In the end, however, I just got a Mirinda with ice—that's not lemonade. The bill actually said "Mirinda" 🤦🏻‍♀️. Things got even worse after that. We ordered two soups and two main courses—pork medallions with a side dish. The medallions had a horrible smell of old pork/boar and were so tough they were impossible to chew. The sauces that came with them also tasted very poor. The soup was slightly better, but also not really prepared properly. It was supposed to be an onion soup, where the onions need to be caramelized. Instead, we got just cooked onions. As the waitress was clearing the plates, she asked me why I had even ordered a meat dish if I wasn't going to eat it. When I replied that it was far too tough and inedible, she reacted with a very surprised expression and even rolled her eyes slightly. Then there was the price: We paid a total of €62 for two people. That's extremely expensive for this quality. A dish with the tough pork alone cost €20, and unfortunately, we had two of those. Food: 1/10. Service: 1/10. Drinks: 1/10. I certainly won't go there again and can't recommend it to anyone.

Sitting outside in the shade is great in this weather. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the service is very friendly and quick. Prices are absolutely reasonable and justifiable. The food is excellent and freshly made; nothing is frozen. All in all, highly recommended.

We went to Stadthaus Schranke today without a reservation and were lucky that a table was still available. Since the restaurant was busy, we were warned that there might be a wait. But that wasn't a problem at all 😊 We didn't feel like we waited long for our food. It was delicious, and the service was very friendly and accommodating. We'd be happy to go back.

Delicious regional specialties at great prices

Those schnitzels (pepper sauce and mushroom sauce) were really delicious!! Ate more than enough. Despite the crowds, the hostesses made time to have a chat. The restaurant itself is also a lot of fun, keep up the good work!!

We ordered 2 schnitzels with pepper cognac sauce. The salad was subpar (especially the sauce). So we both left him with a bad feeling. Then the schnitzel arrived unfriendly. The sauce was bad again and tasted like it had been bought ready-made. The fries were poorly or not at all salted. The schnitzel without the sauce and the fries was enough to fill the stomach again, because it didn't taste that good either. The atmosphere was good because it had a Bavarian look inside. I don't recommend this restaurant because the food was bad, the service was stingy, unfriendly and just out for money, and it was expensive for the conditions.

The two of us went to the restaurant today and we are very disappointed. We ordered 1 pork knuckle with bread and paid 15 euros. There was the end piece of bread and the next little piece. The knuckle was ok. The price for the pork knuckle with sauerkraut and fried potatoes according to the menu is 17.50 euros. When I asked how one got the 15 euros, the boss said that the knuckle was the most expensive... We have been guests here many times, unfortunately for the last time today! 1 knuckle with bread and 2 wines for 27 euros is not acceptable for home-style cooking (the semi-dry Riesling was firn, but in good hopes no complaints were made)!!! It's a shame, the friendliness of times gone by is also over.

A very rustic restaurant in Mainz's pedestrian zone. Here you can still get very tasty German cuisine of very good quality. It always tastes very good. It is advisable to reserve a table in advance, as the restaurant is small but nice and is very well attended due to the good quality. Highly recommended.

Nice quaint shop in a good location. Definitely great value for money. Ate delicious schnitzel in cognac sauce (highly recommended!) and drank dark beer. Unfortunately we didn't like the salad dressing at all (very ready-made, mayo-heavy). The (tattooed) service was very friendly and attentive. We used to always walk past this restaurant and decided to visit it. We're glad we did it!

Shortly before the company holidays, some dishes were no longer available, including: No steaks at all, which we thought was a shame and couldn't really understand. The food we ordered was ok. The appetizer was forgotten by the somewhat overwhelmed waiter, but we were at least treated to a coffee.

Avoid this stupid place. On Google it said Friday open from 11am to 9pm. I walk all the way here at 4:15pm and it's not freaking open. I think they should close down the business if they don't care about it.

After our autumn hike today, we were looking forward to eating in the last rays of the sun. Guests were already sitting at two tables on the terrace, the other tables were secured with locks. We asked if one of them could be opened. The waitress said no. She had a cold and was on vacation in three days. She didn't want to risk pneumonia. Because my partner was looking forward to a schnitzel, we went in. I ordered tagliatelle with salmon and shrimp, my partner the schnitzel. I was then told that there was no tagliatelle, only penne. You don't want to throw anything away because your vacation starts in three days. It should have been clear to me then that the food wasn't freshly prepared. The result was a dish with a watery sauce and countable pieces of salmon. Coupled with the unfriendliness of the staff, I can only say: NEVER AGAIN! By the way, I feel bad now too.

Old German kitchen...simple furnishings...food and staff great

Horrible behavior towards the customer. We were in this restaurant yesterday at around 2 p.m. It was impossible to sit at the table, all the chairs were attached with a cable. There were five of us so we asked for a bigger table or to move two tables so everyone could sit down. The waitress rudely refused and insisted on a table for 4 people. Why should five people sit at a table of four? That would be understandable if the other tables were occupied. But half the tables were free. Never again.

Absolutely delicious. Short Authentic German menu. Loved by locals even if located in a commercial area in Mainz. The menu changes seasonally with local and high quality ingredients. Would be back in a blink to try the pork knuckle that was already sold out, it must be wonderful. Lovely ladies attending the restaurant. Cash only.

Mainz original. There is delicious home cooking here all day long, the staff is very attentive and you feel like you have been transported back to your own childhood in Mainz. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle in the pedestrian zone.

Rainy Day.. I happened to visit it while traveling in Mainz. Two ladies around my mother’s age kindly welcomed me, all wet like a puppy getting wet in the rain!! There was an English menu Pork knuckle was ordered. It was so delicious that I couldn't forget it. Especially the crunchy texture of the shell... It was a perfect lunch and I don't think I'll ever forget Mainz!!

It was like always, just great. We are already looking forward to being back in Mainz. And now something for those who don't know the store. Do you want good food at reasonable prices? You're right there. I love Salad Neptune, especially when it's hot. But it's all delicious. Always a great weekly menu. Bedside tables for every hip 😂

Nice service, we were able to sit at the table with a couple. Eating came very quickly - however: The soup was nothing special, thin and quite tasteless. Salad average, schnitzel as well, fried potatoes without bacon, onions, etc. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food (after all the recessions).

Our favorite meal in Mainz (actually all of Germany during our visit)!! The pork schnitzel with peppercorn sauce was AMAZING...it was so juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere feels like a little cafe-food is so tasty. The service was excellent too. Only sad part is we went back to have it one more time before leaving and they were already closing at 7:30 pm (web site said they were open til 9).

Good home cooking, good service in the middle of Mainz

After we had agreed on a pork knuckle and were happy, we were informed that it was currently not available. It's a shame, it would be nice if this was communicated to you when the menu was handed out. We then decided on a potato and onion soup, which were both very tasty. The ambience corresponds to a typical tavern.

Nice restaurant, food was delicious, my husband had the Bavarian knuckle meat - which was tender as butter. Everything else went well too. Service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was well attended.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at this restaurant, it was perfect for what I wanted. I was accepted without a reservation and the place seems popular with the locals. Food was prepared fast, portion sizes appealing and everything tasted great. Unfortunately I was caught out by surprise as this restaurant cannot accept credit cards foreign or domestic. They only accept domestic debit cards not even foreign debit cards. I was forced to go and withdraw cash to pay for this meal. I had heard stories about this occurring in Germany, but it had never affected me since I've travelled widely within Germany and I've always been able to pay with credit cards so this was a surprise. Nevertheless I'm not gonna let this ruin my experience and I would gladly come back to this restaurant again. If you are a foreigner consider this restaurant cash only.

Wo die guten Bewertungen her kommen kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Wir hatten das rheinhessische Winzerpfännchen. Das Fleisch war in der Pfanne seinen 2 Tod gestorben, die Reibekuchen waren alles nur nicht hausgemacht. Reibekuchen mit Panade kenne ich nicht. Das Gartengeräte war TK Ware, Erbsen, Möhren und was weisses und das alles in einer undefinierbaren klebrigen weißen Sosse. Die Rieslingsoße zum Fleisch war auch undefienietbar. Gutes Essen geht anders.

If you are looking for reasonably priced uncomplicated German food, this is the place for you. I went with a large family party - 4 adults and 3 children - and we could not have been looked after better. Delicious pork knuckle for me and schnitzels various for most of the others. Generous amounts all round and a cosy atmosphere. It feels slightly like a pub but this reflects the nature of the food. Staff friendly and efficient. If in Mainz again I would definitely return.

Jeden Mittwoch von 12:00 bis 14:00 Uhr Mittagessen wie bei Muttern, beginnend mit fast dem Besten: der gehaltvollen wärmenden perfekt abgeschmeckten Suppe. Heute zärtestes Rindfleisch, hmmm.

Gut bürgerliche Küche alter Schule, faire Preise, aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service, im Sommer Außensitzplätze, etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber dafür mit ganz viel Charme. Die gut bürgerliche Küche wie man sie heute nur noch ganz wenig findet, absolute Empfehlung!!!

Gutes Essen in einem der ältesten Gaststätten in Mainz, das ist hier ganz sicher gegeben. Ab der ersten Minute fühlt man sich wohl und alles passte. Super netter Service, tolle Leute rundherum,hier werde ich sicher wieder zu finden sein. Wer etwas urig, gediegenes sucht findet hier beides.

Meine Partnerin und ich haben Schnitzel gegessen. Portionen waren absolut reichlich. Aber sehr lieblos auf den Teller angerichtet. Das Auge isst mit. Vielleicht eine Überlegung wert das Essen so aufzuwerten. Die Saucen waren geschmacklich nur Durchschnitt.
