Very cozy, good middle-class restaurant. Large portions. Everything served fresh and hot. No long waiting times. Only recommended. Full marks!

Nice quaint shop in a good location. Definitely great value for money. Ate delicious schnitzel in cognac sauce (highly recommended!) and drank dark beer. Unfortunately we didn't like the salad dressing at all (very ready-made, mayo-heavy). The (tattooed) service was very friendly and attentive. We used to always walk past this restaurant and decided to visit it. We're glad we did it!

Avoid this stupid place. On Google it said Friday open from 11am to 9pm. I walk all the way here at 4:15pm and it's not freaking open. I think they should close down the business if they don't care about it.

Shortly before the company holidays, some dishes were no longer available, including: No steaks at all, which we thought was a shame and couldn't really understand. The food we ordered was ok. The appetizer was forgotten by the somewhat overwhelmed waiter, but we were at least treated to a coffee.

After our autumn hike today, we were looking forward to eating in the last rays of the sun. Guests were already sitting at two tables on the terrace, the other tables were secured with locks. We asked if one of them could be opened. The waitress said no. She had a cold and was on vacation in three days. She didn't want to risk pneumonia. Because my partner was looking forward to a schnitzel, we went in. I ordered tagliatelle with salmon and shrimp, my partner the schnitzel. I was then told that there was no tagliatelle, only penne. You don't want to throw anything away because your vacation starts in three days. It should have been clear to me then that the food wasn't freshly prepared. The result was a dish with a watery sauce and countable pieces of salmon. Coupled with the unfriendliness of the staff, I can only say: NEVER AGAIN! By the way, I feel bad now too.

Horrible behavior towards the customer. We were in this restaurant yesterday at around 2 p.m. It was impossible to sit at the table, all the chairs were attached with a cable. There were five of us so we asked for a bigger table or to move two tables so everyone could sit down. The waitress rudely refused and insisted on a table for 4 people. Why should five people sit at a table of four? That would be understandable if the other tables were occupied. But half the tables were free. Never again.

Absolutely delicious. Short Authentic German menu. Loved by locals even if located in a commercial area in Mainz. The menu changes seasonally with local and high quality ingredients. Would be back in a blink to try the pork knuckle that was already sold out, it must be wonderful. Lovely ladies attending the restaurant. Cash only.

Mainz original. There is delicious home cooking here all day long, the staff is very attentive and you feel like you have been transported back to your own childhood in Mainz. When the weather is nice, you can sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle in the pedestrian zone.

I went to the Stadthaus Schänke yesterday and they serve good home-style food here. The service was quick and you didn't have to wait long for drinks and food. The tavern was well attended. Here you can sit outside and enjoy. Stop by and let yourself be pampered.

Rainy Day.. I happened to visit it while traveling in Mainz. Two ladies around my mother’s age kindly welcomed me, all wet like a puppy getting wet in the rain!! There was an English menu Pork knuckle was ordered. It was so delicious that I couldn't forget it. Especially the crunchy texture of the shell... It was a perfect lunch and I don't think I'll ever forget Mainz!!

It was like always, just great. We are already looking forward to being back in Mainz. And now something for those who don't know the store. Do you want good food at reasonable prices? You're right there. I love Salad Neptune, especially when it's hot. But it's all delicious. Always a great weekly menu. Bedside tables for every hip 😂

Very unfriendly and rude service! I have never experienced anything like it. She made a face right from the start and when you ask her something you only get cheeky answers. It's a shame about the restaurant because the food was great and the location is great!

Nice service, we were able to sit at the table with a couple. Eating came very quickly - however: The soup was nothing special, thin and quite tasteless. Salad average, schnitzel as well, fried potatoes without bacon, onions, etc. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the food (after all the recessions).

Very good fried potatoes and tomato soup

Our favorite meal in Mainz (actually all of Germany during our visit)!! The pork schnitzel with peppercorn sauce was AMAZING...it was so juicy and flavorful. The atmosphere feels like a little cafe-food is so tasty. The service was excellent too. Only sad part is we went back to have it one more time before leaving and they were already closing at 7:30 pm (web site said they were open til 9).

Good home cooking, good service in the middle of Mainz

After we had agreed on a pork knuckle and were happy, we were informed that it was currently not available. It's a shame, it would be nice if this was communicated to you when the menu was handed out. We then decided on a potato and onion soup, which were both very tasty. The ambience corresponds to a typical tavern.

Nice restaurant, food was delicious, my husband had the Bavarian knuckle meat - which was tender as butter. Everything else went well too. Service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant was well attended.

Rustic atmosphere, friendly and Fast service, food fresh and tasty, more for meat eaters, the schnitzels are very tasty. Of course we didn't expect fine dining, we were pleasantly surprised.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at this restaurant, it was perfect for what I wanted. I was accepted without a reservation and the place seems popular with the locals. Food was prepared fast, portion sizes appealing and everything tasted great. Unfortunately I was caught out by surprise as this restaurant cannot accept credit cards foreign or domestic. They only accept domestic debit cards not even foreign debit cards. I was forced to go and withdraw cash to pay for this meal. I had heard stories about this occurring in Germany, but it had never affected me since I've travelled widely within Germany and I've always been able to pay with credit cards so this was a surprise. Nevertheless I'm not gonna let this ruin my experience and I would gladly come back to this restaurant again. If you are a foreigner consider this restaurant cash only.

If you look for something typical in the city, this is the place to be. Do not expect any fancy but, truly traditional food and ambient in this next neighbours restaurant. Very friendly staff.

Wo die guten Bewertungen her kommen kann ich nicht nachvollziehen. Wir hatten das rheinhessische Winzerpfännchen. Das Fleisch war in der Pfanne seinen 2 Tod gestorben, die Reibekuchen waren alles nur nicht hausgemacht. Reibekuchen mit Panade kenne ich nicht. Das Gartengeräte war TK Ware, Erbsen, Möhren und was weisses und das alles in einer undefinierbaren klebrigen weißen Sosse. Die Rieslingsoße zum Fleisch war auch undefienietbar. Gutes Essen geht anders.

If you are looking for reasonably priced uncomplicated German food, this is the place for you. I went with a large family party - 4 adults and 3 children - and we could not have been looked after better. Delicious pork knuckle for me and schnitzels various for most of the others. Generous amounts all round and a cosy atmosphere. It feels slightly like a pub but this reflects the nature of the food. Staff friendly and efficient. If in Mainz again I would definitely return.

Always recommended for a stroll through the city.

Jeden Mittwoch von 12:00 bis 14:00 Uhr Mittagessen wie bei Muttern, beginnend mit fast dem Besten: der gehaltvollen wärmenden perfekt abgeschmeckten Suppe. Heute zärtestes Rindfleisch, hmmm.

Gut bürgerliche Küche alter Schule, faire Preise, aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service, im Sommer Außensitzplätze, etwas in die Jahre gekommen aber dafür mit ganz viel Charme. Die gut bürgerliche Küche wie man sie heute nur noch ganz wenig findet, absolute Empfehlung!!!

Gutes Essen in einem der ältesten Gaststätten in Mainz, das ist hier ganz sicher gegeben. Ab der ersten Minute fühlt man sich wohl und alles passte. Super netter Service, tolle Leute rundherum,hier werde ich sicher wieder zu finden sein. Wer etwas urig, gediegenes sucht findet hier beides.

Meine Partnerin und ich haben Schnitzel gegessen. Portionen waren absolut reichlich. Aber sehr lieblos auf den Teller angerichtet. Das Auge isst mit. Vielleicht eine Überlegung wert das Essen so aufzuwerten. Die Saucen waren geschmacklich nur Durchschnitt.

Hatte ein Jägerschnitzel, das war sehr lecker, Die Kellner sind auch mega nett. Ist jetzt nicht der schönste Ort zu verweilen aber alles in Ordnung.

Vor weg, dass Essen war gut auch wenn beim Salat bestehend aus Salatblätter und Rotebeete die ein oder andere Salatart gefehlt hat. Wir waren mit 6 Personen dort und die Bedienung war nicht bereit an einen 4er Tisch einen weiteren 2er Tisch zu setzen. Wir haben dann an dem 4erTisch sehr eng gegessen. Dies war aus unserer Sicht nicht nachvollziehbar da die Gaststätte leer war, weil die Gäste alle draußen gesessen haben. Aus meiner Sicht war die Bedienung so flexibel wie eine Eisenbahnschwelle. Aus Sicht des Gastes nicht nachvollziehbar. Aber das Essen war bei allen 6 Gästen in Ordnung.

Wir hatten Schnitzel mit jeweils einer anderen Soße. Beide Soßen sehr lecker und keine Fertigware. Schnitzel saftig. Panade top. Das Essen kam heiß auf den Tisch. Beilagensalat gut. Bratkartoffeln top! Ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Gerne wieder ( vielleicht Tafelspitz?!)

Das Essen ist gutbürgerlich gut, der Einrichtungsstil ist schrecklich stillos. Einerseits historische Fotos, dann asiatischer Nippes, Safari Kissen, US Fähnchen, historische Küchenutensilien, es sieht auf wie auf dem Trödelmarkt. Empfehlung: ein Stil, alles stilfremde zurück ins eigene Wohnzimmer..

Hochzeitsessen unserer Kinder. Völlig ungezwungen und urig. Die Kinder wollten es unkonventionell und das war es. Also perfekt.

Man wird herzlichst Willkommen. Die Speisekarte ist mit überwiegend deutschen Gerichten einfach, aber gut sortiert. Das Essen ist LECKER! Hausgemachte Bratkartoffeln aus Pellkartoffeln gemacht, die Schnitzen in der Pfanne gebraten, aber triefen nicht im Öl. Salat dazu, einfach klasse. Lob an die Küche und die lieben Damen im Service. Wir kommen wieder!

Nach langer Zeit waren wir mal wieder in der Stadthausschänke zu Gast. Um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen: Ein weiteres Mal wird erstmal nicht hinzukommen. Das Essen (Schnitzel) kam nach ca. 10 Minuten. Schon fast zu schnell. Das Schnitzel war uns zu dick und leider teilweise auch mit Sehnen durchsetzt. Die Bratkartoffeln waren zu hell. Die Seniorenportion kostete nur 1,50 Euro weniger wie die "normale" Portion. Alles in allem nichts Besonderes. Gibt es in anderen Restaurants deutlich besser (und günstiger).

Unfreundlich, keine Nachfrage wie man sein Rumpsteak haben möchte,Salat sandig. Zu trocken,da zu wenig Soße

Sehr zentral gelegen. Drinnen nur wenige Tische- reservieren empfiehlt sich. Große Portionen- Schnitzel gut gebraten. Dazu gibt es noch andere Gerichte wie Haxen oder Pfannen mit Medaillons. Ich fasse zusammen: solide Kost

Die Euphorie um dieses Restaurant kann ich nicht teilen. Der Service gibt einem das Gefühl dankbar für einen Platz sein zu müssen und auch Freundlichkeit gibt es nur wohl dosiert. Während die Zwiebelsuppe durchaus zu empfehlen ist kann man über den Hauptgang nur enttäuscht sein: Fertige Saucenpampe und Dosenpilze. Nicht zu empfehlen.

Zur Abwechslung einmal deutsche Küche, lecker zubereitet und absolut preiswert. Nette und zuvorkommende Bedienung, und das obwohl das Lokal bis auf den letzten Platz belegt war!! Für Gruppen unbedingt Reservierung empfohlen.

The staff gave us English menus, which we appreciated! I had the pork knuckle and my wife had the shrimp & salmon pasta. Both were large portions and delicious. We enjoyed two sodas and a streusel for dessert. Would recommend! Cozy atmosphere and lovely food.

It was the first day of carnival in Mainz. The restaurant was packed, but two local couples invited us to share their table. We had a wonderful time - great food, lively conversation, and friendly service. The food was fresh and delicious. So glad we stopped at this local establishment. Reminder - they only take cash.

Hier bekommt man deutsche Küche fein zubereitet. Die Speisen sind deftig und wirklich gut. Das Auswahl an Bier und Wein im Offenausschank ist gross.

Came here for the first time, and it won't be the last. Ordered a (Senior size) Jägerschnitzel (pork cutlet with mushrooms and tasty gravy) and a small Salad. Was not disappointed. Staff was friendly, the place was packed. That is always a good sign if you go somewhere for the first time. Will be back.

Nothing special. Mainzer soup was OK. Crispy pork knuckle had good taste, but was not from the day; its side dish, sauerkraut and fried potatoes, good. The schnitzel were good. Price was reasonable. The waiter was bit rude.
