Ssam Original Korean Barbeque in Berlin

The meat is good. They have the air-filtering pipes on each table so the air quality is acceptable. Really fun place to be as a group. One thing missing is: they write in the menu that 2 bowls of rice are included in each menu set. We only got one. They also write all menus come with side dishes. We only got served one set of side dish, for four people. That doesn’t make sense. You have to ask for each side dish again yourself. Imagine having one tiny bowl of kimchi with 5-6 pieces for four people. Also when side dishes are placed on one side, half of the table has to reach them by putting their arms over the grill which is really dangerous and extremely hot. Somehow the tables and the side dishes got smaller.

I really like eating here, although the price is not cheap, the food is very reasonable, the atmosphere is cozy and the location is also very beautiful, easy to get around.

Very tasty food, came straight away, no long waiting times. This was my first time at Korean BBQ so I didn't know how it worked exactly. However, I had helpful employees who explained everything to me. Very great experience.

I find it unbelievable that you can make reservations for all kinds of times and then find yourself in front of closed doors. Then you have to adapt your appointment booking tool, maybe? As a group we were looking forward to this day and agreed to meet at the reserved time; our reservation was not canceled either. Impossible.

A Korean restaurant without Korean friendliness. The service is not interested in the customer. If the restaurant is half full, you literally have to call the waitress. The rice is forgotten for the BBQ and delivered without apology when asked (again with a lot of effort). Unfortunately, reordering drinks was just as slow. One waitress (of two) spoke neither German nor English and the other (main waitress) seemed constantly annoyed, no smile, no greeting, no farewell. When paying by card, a 15% tip is automatically set (look carefully and decline). The waitress didn't say thank you after paying with a tip, she didn't seem to care, as did our entire presence. The concept is definitely great, but the poor service means we will never eat there again.

Very good food. Weren't many people there but that made it easier to talk and enjoy the time with my friends. Waiters took there time to explain everything since it was our first time eating K-BBQ

Not great. It's around 35 euros for each BBQ set, the meat is decent but they're hilariously stingy with the sides and extras. We got given a mouthful of kimchi between two and 3 slices of pickle. The restaurant is also not in very good shape so you don't feel like you've payed to be in a nice place with a classy atmosphere. I don't know, I just wasn't impressed.

We had a great and delicious evening at Ssam Korean Barbeque today! Unfortunately, you can't understand the bad reviews you read on the internet. It may be that the chairs do not meet German standards, but they offer an original Korean BBQ like we know from my home country. Also the prices... The prices are higher compared to other BBQs, but you get a good quality of meat and the side dish is very tasty! We were full too! Definitely recommended!!! 🙋🏻‍♂️

The food is ok, the taste isn't the best, I've had better bibimbaps, I don't think the red cabbage and the cucumbers go well, but that's just my opinion. A fried egg would have been nice.

Everything was great! The food is extremely tasty, the service is great and the ambience is simply awesome! If you haven't tried Korean barbecue yet, you should definitely eat there. However, it is relatively difficult to get a seat without a reservation. From the outside, I wouldn't have thought I would find such a beautiful ambience with such a culinary variety of dishes. Secret Spot, for those who want really good food at a fair price and don't settle for a kebab shop!

It was pouring rain outside, yet they didn't let anyone in even a minute early (they reopen 17.00). Then we had to wait over an hour to get our food. We all ordered BBQ so it was literally raw meat, how does it take them this long to serve raw meat with sides? Anyway, the food was a mix of good and bad. One of the dishes had high quality beautifully marbled meat, I got low quality meat with loads of fat strings. It was also supposed to be cut thinly. We all had huge lumps and had to cut them ourselves. Oh and they forgot to bring the rice. The drinks were delicious but immensely overpriced. I had one cup of tea for 4.50€. One, small cup. (Refer to picture) Oh, and the toilets are disgusting and have no normal light but some pinkish neon light

I tried the vegan Korean bbq version and can't recommend it. 30€ for a few raw vegetables without spices is a disgrace. My friend had meat which was supposed to be delicious, but the side dishes were very meager and disappointing for another €30. Very bad price-performance ratio.

Went to the branch in Kottbusser Damm. Fried chicken starter was OK but the soy sauce it came with was sickly sweet. My spicy squid Bibimbap sat in a centimetre of oil. Probably the worst bibimbap I’ve ever had. The beef version was the same. Both oily rice. Avoid this establishment.

Last time I was kinda disappointed. The barbecue was just okay but for the quality way overpriced. There are better places for barbecue but the single dishes I had there were actually really good.

Worst bibimbap I had in Berlin. I think this is one of those restaurants which look like Korean but not Korean at all. First of all, the cooked oil soaks the rice through the bottom of the bowl. Both my partner and I could see the oil puddled at the bottom. Also its seasonings are way too spicy and sweet. We felt like drinking hot/sweet oil. We went to lunch time and the price itself was reasonable but then the drink is made too sweet and all the sweet sauce again sank at the bottom. We didn't order the BBQ so I cannot judge but its fried chicken was fine (still sauce was too sweet). It was a shame as it is located at the entrance of Schönlein Straße U-Bahn Station and is convenient. Service and atmosphere is nothing in particular. It has been there for many years but I think its cooking style needs to meet the standard. Nowadays Berlin has many good Korean restaurants.

Good enough food, although small quantity and extremely pricey

We were there for the first time today and unfortunately found that the service was (unfortunately) not quite up to snuff. When we ordered our drinks, initially only half of the order arrived and of course we had to ask for the rest. Even then, after the second attempt, the service didn't bring all the right drinks. I'm honestly wondering what's so difficult about bringing 4 drinks to the same table. Well, after everything finally arrived, we had to wait forever for cutlery, plates and tongs. Unfortunately, the first impression left a negative aftertaste for us... throughout the evening, we weren't asked if everything was okay or if we would like anything else. You don't really feel like you're in good hands there. We first had to approach the service to order drinks again. When the bill came, the service staff responded promptly. Unfortunately, it wasn't a really positive experience for us because we had the feeling that by asking about the things we ordered, we annoyed you and also made you feel the reaction. There wasn't even an apology from the service.

We were lucky and got the last table for two with a BBQ grill. And we were so glad we dared to ask… the food was fantastic and a great experience. You could take your time and just enjoy. Been here a few times the food is real good specially the fried chicken. This time however was dissapointed with the music choice. ALL NIGHT reggaeton is just not the vibe at all for a korean bbq and cant believe management would approve staff dominated the sound space of the venue

We were thrilled. The two of us came here spontaneously and were able to sit on beer benches outside. You tick various Korean tapas, which are then brought to you in small bowls. Everyone has their own bowl and can take something from anywhere. I really like this food culture. 6 tapas were enough for the two of us. There was also a very well mixed mojito. The food was super delicious. I can only recommend the restaurant.

I have to point out the price straight away. Yes, the food is delicious, you can get some rice, but it's expensive. The meat you roast on your own table grill is so delicious, and the pre-prepared meals are great too. But it costs 20€... recommended for everyone who has something special to celebrate and we can spend a little more!

All in all very good. Obviously pricey but for special occasion the right place. My recommendation is the American Prime Meat, smooth buttery taste. The vegetables and most of the side dishes were also amazing.

Service was terrible. Waiters never showed up at the table. We had to get up several times to find someone. The meat was low quality for the price they ask. There is zero explanation or help with the grill. What a bad experience. Do not go there! There is a much better alternative with the same concept close by called: “Kimchi Princess”.

Very Bad experience, the waiter just came twice to the table. One time For getting our order, one time for bringing our food. That’s it! Needed to stand up for every single thing we needed. They won’t even pack to go stuff if u have left overs, u need to pack it yourself. The restaurant was empty. Super Korean BBQ! We went inside on a whim. What a pleasant surprise. We had the «All about the Beef»-option, which is very good. It was a bit hard to cook the thickest meatcut, but all in all a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and nice.

Also, you need to make a reservation in advance, even though it was said that there was no place to sit, it was very empty when we went. We ate our meal in a quiet environment. You can definitely stop by. I am deducting 1 star because the establishment does not have any type of bread. Can you eat meat without bread?

We visited this restaurant for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Fresh good quality meat and marinades with a lot of umami. We will surely come back again.

When I travel to different cities I normally try Korean barbecue. This time the side dishes was poor so I was happy that we ordered the kimchi platter and the basket of 3 kinds of mushrooms. The salad was not good for making small bags. I was missing sesame oil. Rather expensive place to visit! But the size of the meat was perfect

Unfriendly Stuff!!! Portions are too small and expensive. You have to order more than you can actually eat to use the grill, at least 2 BBQ Meals. Menu Options are very limited. Atmosphere is like eat fast and gtfo. Side dishes don’t get refilled automatically.

Friendly service, clean, tidy and functional equipment, but without any flair, unfortunately my little Coca-Cola light didn't come fresh in the glass bottle, but stale in the glass and not even 0.2 l in it, the plastic bottle was probably empty beforehand, To then charge €2.60 for this is definitely unreasonable. My Jabchae for €8.90, glass noodles with tofu, certainly the best ingredients, but without sauce and with cardboard price, less of a hit, also missed colorful vegetables. By the way, heating wouldn't have been a mistake, uncomfortable, and no paper at the sink.

The restaurant specializes in Korean BBQ, which I found enjoyable, though not exceptional. A notable drawback for me was the inability to order (free) tap water, coupled with a policy that requires customers to spend a minimum amount - a practice I found unusual and quite restrictive. Given its higher price point, the lack of complimentary tap water strikes me as particularly unwelcoming. Moreover, the stipulation that each guest must order at least one BBQ dish, costing around 30 Euros per person, limits dining freedom and detracts from the overall enjoyment (just let people eat as much and what they want!). The concept of imposing a minimum spend and restricting customer choice doesn't align with my expectations and seems to lessen the dining experience. Additionally, the service was not really satisfactory; the staff did not make an effort to explain the dining process and were neither overtly rude nor particularly friendly or helpful. I had been looking forward to visiting since my arrival in Berlin, but the experience did not meet my hopes. For those in search of a fulfilling Korean BBQ experience, I would recommend exploring other venues.

Reservation had to be made ahead of time because this spot is quite beloved in the neighbourhood. Lovely ambience, fun music, and a delightfully filling meal. I enjoyed the rice, though I doused my bowl in soy sauce as usual. Would not recommend to people travelling with young kids because there are extremely hot and open grills if you opt for that style of dinner here. Otherwise, great experience, do recommend.

Doesn't even deserve a star. It was terrible & what's more, these are mega historic prizes. The meat (Argentiono steak and chicken) had so much fat that I thought I was eating pure lard. Afterwards I had a massive upset stomach. So if you want to give yourself food poisoning or poison your closest enemy then this shed is recommended.

Had to wait a long time at the entrance and for the food, appetizer came after the main course, bibimbap wasn't tasty, I had to pack my own food to take away and for the super expensive price, none of that is good.

Everything smells like grease, the hoods above the tables don't work at all. The meat was quite tasty, vegetable basket for grilling with fruit and vegetarian meat and not seasoned, just raw slices. Toilets were under water.

Good food, i had a nice dinner. Could have more variety for the meat sides, I had two types of mushrooms, eggplant and zucchini. Wish I could not have mushrooms and added something like carrots instead. One of the waiter was really nice and the other one was too bossy when showing how to use the grill. They could have asked, "Do you need any help?" Instead of messing with the food without asking. Overall, it was great. I would probably come back one day.

I would advise against visiting this place. Despite having a reservation, they seated us in a cramped area with others, even though there were plenty of empty tables. When we questioned this, they falsely claimed those tables were reserved. Moreover, they served a single-person side dish for four people and declined our request for an extra side, citing limited space. Overall, it's an expensive place with uncomfortable seating and a disappointing variety of side dishes.

Nicht empfehlenswert. Unser Tisch war zu 16:30 Uhr bestellt, das Restaurant dementsprechend nur halbvoll aber der Service war die ganze Zeit über unterirdisch. Kellner waren unaufmerksam, nicht besonders höflich und wirkten gelangweilt bis gestresst. Dem Geburtstagskind wurde nicht gratuliert, es wurde nicht gefragt ob es schmeckt oder ob wir im laufe des Abends noch weiteres bestellen möchten. Der leere Nachbartisch wurde lange nicht abgeräumt. Bei uns wurden Getränke vergessen und erst nach mehrmaligen Nachfragen gebracht, auch mussten wir nach Tellern und Besteck fragen, diese wurden nicht von allein gebracht. Eine zweite Grillzange haben wir nie bekommen. Am Ende standen Getränke auf der RE die wir nicht bestellt haben. Es gab keine Aufmerksamkeiten, Tischdeko usw. und das Ambiente lud nicht zum verweilen ein. Essen war okay aber nichts besonderes, dafür sehr teuer. Die Vegane Platte hat garnicht geschmeckt und fiel beim grillen auseinander . (Und das für 25€). Preis Leistungs Verhältniss stimmt hier garnicht. Wir waren enttäuscht und kommen definitiv nicht wieder. Einfach nur ärgerlich, es sollte ein schönes essen zum Geburtstag werden.

my friend recommended me this restaurant, it wasn't good as my thought. it was quite and not allowed ovrer 2 hours for a meal. the drinks aren't more choices we ordered chicken and pork, and they are so terrible. their taste were tame. then it's toilets. i thought it were club, not a toilet

Wir haben hier zu Mittag gegessen. Insgesamt haben wir 30€ für zwei Gerichte, jeweils mit einer kleinen Suppe und einem Getränk, bezahlt. Das Fleisch ist hervorragend gewürzt und wird mit frischem Gemüse und Reis serviert. Besonders empfehlenswert ist das Korean Fried Chicken mit Sweet Spicy Sauce, ein absolutes Highlight.

They have plenty selections of meat to pick from and soju as well. Not too pricey. For four of us with 4 meat selections, 4 bottles of soju and a water it cost us €140

Unsere Erfahrung fürs Koreanische BBQ war leider enttäuschend. Die Bedienungen waren zwar freundlich, verstanden aber nur so semi gut deutsch. So lief die Kommunikation nur über englisch. Das Essen ließ zu wünschen übrig. Die Qualität des Fleisches war nicht überzeugend, dass Rindfleisch sah aus wie Fleischabfall, das Lamm schmeckte fürchterlich, die 3 Garnelen sind so zerfallen, sodass sie nicht essbar waren. Die paar Pilze, Zucchini und Aubergine waren in Ordnung. Aber insgesamt definitiv zu teuer! Das Ambiente war auch nicht besonders einladend, sah irgendwie nach ner Baustelle aus, die nicht wirklich fertig gestellt worden ist. Von den Toiletten wollen wir erst gar nicht reden.. Insgesamt ein Besuch, den wir uns besser gespart hätten. Aber das Gesundheitsamt sollte mal reinschauen. Für 4 Personen über 230€ bezahlt.. Mehr Worte denke ich, bedarf es nicht.

Its end of november why there is flies flying around the table? thats like what? they have a growing operation going? Honestly i wonder why the Gesundheitsamt doesnt close it down. And if your read some other reviews, i agree on the personal, no service at all. Enough rant, i just warn you and advise to maybe look for other korean restaurants.

Wir waren zu zweit zum Mittag und haben jeweils Bibimbab (Beef & spicy Chicken) gegessen. Ich habe beides probiert und war mit beiden sehr zufrieden. Das Rind war schön zart und ließ sich mit der Zunge Gaumen zerdrücken. Das Hühnchen hatte eine sehr leckere süße Schärfe und konnte noch mit einer schärferen Zusatzsoße verfeinert werden. Dabei war das Hühnchen auch super weich und zart aber keinesfalls trocken. Alle Beilagen waren frisch und knackig. Das Kimchi hat mir sehr gut geschmeckt. Das war das beste Mittagessen am Kottbusser Damm für mich seit Langem. Den freundlichen und unauffälligen Service möchte ich nicht unterschlagen. Diese tolle Erfahrung hätte einen sechsten Stern verdient! ⭐️
